Review Thai Angels - Footscray

Sara Abbood
Curry was almost like “water” and same with the Thai tea! Definitely not how a Thai curry usually is. Yet they charge $17 per curry and $4 per rice. It was like eating soup with rice. You would expect much more from a place that charges these prices. Very disappointed with the value for money.

Ordered pick up. Was told it would be 30 minutes, took over 50. We ordered veg pad see ew and got home and it was 95% noodles with barely any vegetables at all. It also had very little flavour. No apologies at all. Will never go back.

Had a massaman curry + coconut rice takeaway. Curry was delicious, and the coconut rice was absolutely spot on. Creamy and tasty, I was starting to think good coconut rice is hard to come by!

Best Thai food in town. Lovely food. Great service. I have moved to regional Victoria but when I'm down it's a must.

Saturday night, partner and I ordered for pickup. I got the chicken cashew nut. Was basically the worst Thai I’ve ever had, dry almost burnt chicken with not much sauce/juice, overall very dry and lacking flavor. My partner got the Thai green curry which was ok but quite spicy when she ordered medium. Rice was nice. Overall won’t go back.

Love love love this restaurant! The staff are lovely and Liz is a wonderful hostess. I especially love their red curry,.

I've ordered from here 3-4 times before and never had issues. Today I ordered the same veg pad see ew, and found large chunks of fish throughout the food. I called the restaurant to let them know of the mistake and the owner said I was wrong and my order slip said it was the veg version. I said I understand what I ordered but I'm looking at big pieces of fish (it made my whole house smell of fish too) They said I was lying and its "not their problem" so I brought the food back to the restaurant and showed them in person. The chef didn't even look at the food and said I'm wrong and that I'm lying and made a scene. The people dining in the restaurant were staring and I left in tears. A truly humiliating and horrible experience for someone who just wanted dinner. Mistakes happen but berating a customer for letting them know is unfair.

The best Thai I have ever eaten. The Chef's specials especially are outstanding. Great friendly and professional service. Most highly recommended! You'll love it!

Three of us decided to try Thai Angels last night courtesy of an Entertainment Book voucher. Even without the voucher we thought the meals represented great value. Two of us decided on the ‘Special for One’, a three course special for $25. The entree included spring rolls, chicken Satay sticks and prawn crackers with generous servings of peanut sauce and sweet chilli dipping sauce. All were very fresh and tasty and were polished off very quickly! For mains the choice of any curry or stir fry from the menu is available along with a choice of spice level. We decided on a chicken cashew stir fry and a green curry. The third member of our group decided on a chicken massaman curry. All three mains were of a very generous size. The chicken was delicious, moist and the stir fry and green curry were served with Jasmine rice. Despite being quite full we managed to finish dessert - coconut ice cream and sticky rice. An enjoyable finish to a great meal.
We all really enjoyed our meals and will definitely be back.

Nice decor , Nice location and nice food are the highlights of this place.
Thought a tad pricy its much better than the overhyped Aangan next door.
We have tried all of their yellow, red and green curries and all of them taste different and good.
However their Tom Kha soup is our hot favourite.

Thai Angels yup

You guys were Angels, my favourite Thai food here in Melbourne, Thank you for the nice experience and delicious appetisers. I will be back soon just as long as you dont over spice it as I cannot eat to spicy

Tried the Thai angels entree platter tonight. Highlights: the spring rolls! Crunchy and golden brown! Wasn’t a fan of the battered carrots and broccoli however, did get a burst if water when I took a bite. The chicken skewers were a little bland, the peanut sauce however was a very good accompaniment for them. The mini money bags and curry puffs were also tasty. Will adjust my rating when I try more of the menu :)
Blergh!
We found this place because we couldn't get into Phat Chicks and I'm so glad we did!! The coconut rice and the red curry is so yummy!! The food tastes really authentic and is very affordable. Service is lovely - the staff are just so proud of their food. Can't wait to go back again and again!

The absolute worst Thai beef salad I have ever had. Generous in quantity but completely devoid of flavour. Staff was not particularly on the ball. Will not be going back!

Small Thai restaurant, but excellent food and great customer service. Booking is a must as it gets filled up pretty quickly. The food was very tasty and arrived all in good time.

The servings were all pretty decent too, and enough to fill you up.
Another good Thai resto on the list.
Good local restaurant. Small place so bookings may be necessary. Otherwise take away is a good option.
Good menu with all the classics, curries done well.

I absolutely love Thai food and have been to many Thai restaurants in my time and I would have to say that Thai Angels is my family's absolute fave! I always order Tom yum with veg and vegetable green curry to my preferred spice level and they always come out beautifully! My kids love their spring rolls and chicken skewers and prefer them here compared to other Thai restaurants we have been to. The staff are so lovely and welcoming and even made the experience extra special when we came to celebrate my daughter's 11th birthday. The atmosphere is warm and calm and felt very cosy.
I was out with a group of friends the other night and decided to order vegetable pad Thai and I am in love. It was so tasty and flavours were well balanced. I live 40 minutes away from here but I would definitely travel here to settle my Pad Thai cravings from now on!

This place has got the best curry the staff are so friendly and caring. The service is great and the food comes out hot and tasty but really fast.

I will start with saying I am not a Thai food expert. I ordered the vegetarian red curry with tofu and it was was really good. Not to spicy (the lady asked how much spice we wanted I ordered mine mild), the sauce was rich and packed with taste. Also got some rice and that was cooked well.

I did not miss meat with this order.

The place was busy and had a nice feeling to it. Staff were very attentive and friendly. I will come back to try out some more Thai food.

I'm slowly branching out from Footscray's Vietnamese and African places. There seem to be a good number of curry houses and Thai places especially when you include West Footscray, Seddon and Yarraville. Thai Angels was the first to be tried simply due to an ok Zomato score (3.4) and the Entertainment Book.

Definitely not the restaurant to go to if you are finding true authentic Thai flavors.
Most dishes have been fused with other cuisines.
Nice restaurant though. Warm atmosphere
Some Like It Hot
Flavour was ok bit the beef in two of our dishes was SO tough! Spring rolls were nice. Unfortunately the beef dishes were not pleasant. Jaw got a good work out from all the chewing...
Dina Kerr
The food here is the best of Thai food in Melbourne. Service is great. Nice atmosphere You will come again and again to this place for the prawn and green mango salad. Try everything you won't be disappointed.

Vegetarian. We had ordered 4 dishes altogether. 2 entrees and 2 mains.

Price: $60 for two ppl. BUT only paid $45 because we had a 25% off discount voucher from 'The Entertainment Booklet'.

Size: skewers (6) were meaty and thick yet not filling. Roti (4) was the size of an A5, but neatly cut into 4 long strips for convenience.

Mains were very generous. The curry did not look like much, but by the end of dinner, both my partner and I could not finish it.

Flavor: very authentic Thai flavors. The coconut and chili definitely came through in the curry. Not too sweet or hot. Roti Chanai had a very crispy skin, topped with sweet peanut sauce? Texture and flavor bomb in your mouth.

Presentation: foods were homey so I didn't expect some crazy plating skills liken to fine dining. Although, all dishes were neatly presented.

Overall: Thursday night, we were greeted and seated promptly with kind gestures. Quick food service and staff were attentive to our needs. For $45, we were stuffed with some food leftover. Thanks Thai Angels.
Sokka Waterman
Not to flashy or flamboyant but does the job. I have had number of takeaway dishes hear. The curries are great but the pad thai was quite dry and bland.

Overall, this is an average Thai restaurant. Nothing to fancy but does its job and gives you reasonable choice of quality thai food.
James Jenkin
Nice but timid. A really nice atmosphere, nice people, nice food ...

They can obviously cook so I just wish they'd take a risk. Something different, fresh, exciting.

David Thompson suggested Thai restaurants try to cater for Australian tastes, but it's the tastes of a generation or two ago.
Sam P
The curry was extremely bland, rice was ok and roti bread was ok. Also ordered pad Thai, very mediocre. Not sure why the rating is 77% on urbanspoon! I was unimpressed!

Terrible Thai! Massaman be.... Terrible Thai!
Massaman beef curry was watery and lacked the rich thickness of regular curry dish. Roti tasted slightly stale and chicken pad Thai lacked flavour so much that it needed chilli sauce added to it. Really disappointed with food. Price and service were good which was shamefully let down by food. Won't return anytime soon.

My local delight. The most tasty green curry I've ever had. Tom Yum is equally very good as are other dishes. Highly reccommend this place.
Steve
Long time waiting. Don't you love it when you order take away and they say 10-15 minutes... You naturally arrive after 20 minutes because who wants to be sitting around waiting in a crowded restaurant, right?

So we walk in the door and it's about a third full. They say it'll be ready shortly and then they START TO COOK! Took grand total of 50 minutes from call to being ready, and they didn't even make mention of the time it took. Guess who's not coming back!

Food, when we FINALLY ate it was ok but the serves were tiny
Parents With Kids Maidstone
Another Melbourne restaurant that doesn't understand how the entertainment book vouchers work. Just lost an $80 order!

Not great!!. Having some knowledge in fresh thai cuisine, this place is not your local go to thai restaurant!

friday night i decided to order take out. not looking too flash after a steamy bath i thought why not pay the little extra for a home delivery literally 1km away.
after 10 minutes on the phone explaining to the woman who couldn't here me and asking me to CALL LATER i ordered thai chicken basil, coconut rice and an overly sweet banana in coconut milk for $30! without sounding like a scumbag, i know plenty of asian restaurants where $30 could serve 2 people!

an hour past, the doorbell finally rang.
the main meal was warm and had to be reheated, the chicken was tough and the flavours were not there. the coconut rice was the best part of the entire meal! who could mess up rice, really.
the dessert was literally half a banana cut up and cooked in coconut rice and palm sugar. i ate the banana and threw the rest.
Overall, i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Not good - terrible!. We purchased takeaway from Thai Angels this evening. Curry puffs, very bland, probably from a box. The 2 soups we ordered were very watery, minimal flavour. The 2 curries were very spicy for medium and the cuts of meat were poor quality. I can cook better curries than this and the Marion's green curry from a box is way better. Just wasted $60! Won't be trying this place ever again.

Cold and staled food. Yuk. .... Cold and staled food. Yuk.
Overpriced. Takeaways are the worst. They don't even care. Disgusted
Won't coming back here again.
Mandarine_girl
Friendly service, great food - perhaps the best Pad Thai in the West at least? can't go past the Pad See Eew either(don't let the name fool you). Only down side is you will be waiting way too long for your food...
Stew
Overrated! That's all. Tom yum and green curry aren't even as good as what anyone can make from a jar bought at the supermarket.
Sofiaanna81
Food USED to be nice but everytime i've had take-away from there in the past few months its been really disappointing. Last nights Chicken Pad Thai was really bland and boring, chicken was dry and zero flavour. Not going back again now, such a shame because it was my favourite local take-away. :(
Phil
Great dinner. 7 of us recently dined here using Entertainment book vouchers, so great value. We ordered a wide range of dishes. we were very pleased with the quality of the food and the service – despite the red curry duck having insufficient duck. Overall, highly recommended for its value, ambience and food quality.

Highly recommended!!!. Yes service is slow but the food is so worth the wait! My husband and I love this little Thai restaurant, situated in the heart of Footscray!!! The pad thai is so yummy!!!!
Louise
Extremely slow service for very overpriced and bland food. Instead of using fresh produce, it's very obvious they use canned and frozen vegetables. This is inexcusable with the amount of cheap quality produce available in the area. Very disappointing, will not be back.

Very very DISAPPOINTED with the service. I never give bad feedback of anything ever but I feel the need to inform people who is planning to visit Thai Angels of their extremely slow service. Unless you have a whole night to waste, Don't go there! Sincerely.

They literally serve table by table, and cook for EACH person on that table each time. Or it was my bad luck to come at the wrong time Idk but I had to wait exactly 48 mins for nothing. I was so pissed seeing each out of 7 adults on the table next to mine being served. I came to the counter and asked if my dishes were being cooked. The waiter quickly passed my orders into the kitchen and the man inside said "We will start cooking for you now" WHAT THE HELL? Really??

I just left.

The food (due to other feedbacks) might be good. But it isn't worth it, really. You could spend extra 15 mins driving to city and get Thai food there, same or even better quality and definitely faster service.

Will NEVER visit Thai Angels EVER AGAIN!

Not even close to being Thai Food!!. Hello. My wife and I ordered some food for delivery last night and I have to say we were very disappointed. The service was fantastic, no complaints there, but the food was terrible. Firstly, we ordered the Mixed Entree and did not get any dipping sauces. That aside, $16 for that amount of food was ridiculous. Secondly, we had a red and yellow (spicy) curry for our mains. I'm not sure if you have ever been to Thailand, but just because a food is red, doesn't mean it should be in a red curry...I'm talking about the tomatoes. Also, the curries were not even mild let alone spicy. The actual curry sauce was thin and tasteless also. This mean cost us almost $60 and we were very dissatisfied. We won't be ordering from you again.

Great food .. Love the green curry ... Yum! This is a friendly locally Fav..

Hot spicy and delicious. Great service always when we go here. If you want hot spicy Thai you get it here and if you need it toned down that is accomodated as well. what ever is your wish. Love this place.
we travel an hour to eat here.

To my horror, this was the rudest customer service I've ever experienced. I had some questions about the menu and the way I was spoken to by the manager was disgusting. I left without ordering I was so offended.
Doug Talbott
Not great. Grabbed take-away for dinner mid-week. Was rather dry and consequently bland compared to any other pad thai dished I have had. I didn't end up finishing it and dumped the left overs. Although, the staff was very friendly.
Kelly Smith
Delivery service way below par. I've had food from Thai Angles once and really enjoyed it. I would eat it more often but the delivery service is is so inconsistent, that I have only had it delivered to me once.
Allison Harvey
I have not eaten in yet, but their takeaway service is great. Awesome food, great coconut rice!
Evan
Decent place to visit. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. Food was nice, more authentic than westernised. Only downful was the time taken for food to show up, but the decor kept us occupied.
Daiz33
I think that if a restaurant like this has extremely slow service (slow to take order and serve), they should at least have something for customers to nibble on...
Tim Sutherland
Angels. The football club needs work, the restaurant doesn't. I'm a fan of both.
Tina Tran
Good food, long wait. Food at Thai Angels is tasty but it seems we always have to wait ages for the food to come out.
Eugenia Flynn
Great food - good value for money. I don't know much about thai food but this place is yummy, good value for money and has great service.

love my footscray eateries!

Highly Recommended. A genuinely impressive Thai restaurant. We went there for dinner. The serving sizes were very good, and as for the food...excellent! The flavours were fresh, delicious, and, of course, authentic. The sauces that came with the various dishes were quite tasty, too! I'd recommend the Fried Fish Cakes. The service should also be commended -- prompt, very polite, and welcoming. Thai Angels, one of the few decent restaurants in West Footscray, is truly worth the visit.
Kevin Lee
Had a great dinner!. Will definitely be back for the Mixed Entree and Pad Thai. The Gang Massaman was rather too sweet and not at all spicy perhaps due to the fact that I asked for just mild spicy. Attentive and friendly staffs. Remember to leave some rooms for their desserts.
LP Cheah
Nice tasty food. The pad thai is great here.
The food here is quite authentic...and not too modified unlike some other Thai places
Karen
We picked up take out last week and our food was very average. My chicken with cashews was disappointing and bland. Not very enthused about going back for a meal when there are so many other places to eat. Our left overs went in the bin instead of being reheated the next day for lunch.
Christina's Food Adventure
Best Thai in the West!. From the moment you walk in you will notice a warm beautiful environment that is hard to beat in the western suburbs restaurant, the details including the spoon and forks that you use made it very authentic and overall a good dining experience.
The food are very tasty and my favourite is the sizzling 'Garlic and Pepper Lamb' accompanied with the sweet 'Coconut Rice' which goes very well together. A great restaurant to dine in especially if you are not familiar with Thai dishes as they can accustom to the level of spice that you are able to handle.
Also, I like that their food doesn't contain MSG (which a lot of the Asian foods contain and also what makes it tasty) instead a well selected herbs and spices are used to add to the wonderful flavour and aroma. Definitely one of my favourite Thai restaurants in Melbourne - a great place to enjoy dinner with friends and family :)
Ed
Bland, plain thai food. Was expecting better things based on the positive reviews. We had the fish cakes entree (which was quite nice) and a Pad Thai and Kao Pad - which should be pretty standard at any Thai place. Both were very plan and flavour-less - the beeef in the Kao Pad was tough and stringy. Will not be going back.
Jemma Lee
Good enough. Not amazing food by any stretch... the atmosphere is lovely, decor nice, food not up to par. It's full of white people - which says a lot about an Asian restaurant!
Katherine Sanchez
Tasty Thai food, although I like my coconut rice gluggier! The medium spicy was a bit too hot for my inexperienced palate, so order with caution - there are five levels of spicy, and I was only on the second. Always a reliable takeaway option for a night in in front of the telly, or eat in and enjoy the warm decor.
B
Absolutely overrated. It's one of those places that becomes an Age darling because it looks pretty and it's in an uncommon area, like Aangan, but the food is super average and disproportionately priced. I had the most unrewarding massaman curry I've ever eaten here. I've tried, really I have - I live around the corner. I think I may be paying for the decor.
Fiona
The people are nice, the service is good and the restaurant has a lovely warm atmosphere. The food however, is mediocre. Overcooked western style vegetables, no Asian greens or anything crunchy. I've only tried the veg options, so I can't comment on the animal dishes. Maybe my favourite Thai restaurant (Thaila Thai) has ruined me for anything else!
Leo
Expensive and not authentic thai
Benn Alp
Very Tasty Thai

Great food/ people. Awsome all over. It's a must for all
Andy
Great place for gathering of the family or friends. Tasty food, friendly staff.
Jen
Great family run business, super friendly staff who now remember our order whether we go in or order delivery. Great food - big fan of the sweet and sour chicken, spring rolls and now their banana pancakes!!! :). They also have their own branded wine :)
Charles Whyte
...everything was good but not great. The critic in me wondered if the prawns were fresh and why there were sizable lumps in the satay sauce that came with the skewers.
