It's good, but has some very strong competition so doesn't stand out.

When you are looking for an asian restaurant you will look for a crowded one which infested with asian because stereotypically it will mean that the food is good, well that was my opinion anyway and i have regretted it. I have been walking pass Bun Ta for a while and was hesitated to come in, because the place is so modern and clean and most of the time i walked pass there were only a few tables. I am all about food and have tried countless restaurant mainly chinese and vietnamese cusine or both. One day i decided to walk in Bun Ta with my partner, ignoring it modern set up and well a few less tables. I love it from the moment i walk through the threshhold. The staff was so friendly and provided service that you barely see nowsaday in asian restaurant. The owner Tuan is a friendly and passionate chef, He respect the kitchen and his customers and cook all the dishes you ordered himself. Well i have been here three times in a row and have tried different items on the menu and all of them were spot on, personally i have never experienced any restaurant like this, i mean with the price that surprising low but fresh and high quality food and service compared to others.
That is my opinion anyway. I love to share because i think it is a pity for someone who is passionate and dedicate for his work but the restaurant set up drive people away (even though it is a very nice set up). Even i was hesitated because i thought it would be expensive and poor quality food. Well i guesed i was wrong then. Give it a try and i am sure you will be back. Nothing to lose. Meanwhile i will definitely be back 😍😍😍
Thank you Tuan and the staff for the service and the yummy food. Keep up with the good work. I will see you soon

ok i heard good things about their chicken ribs. pretty good, big (x2 bigger) and juicy compared to other restaurants.

should of just munched on a plate of them rather than getting it with rice, rice portion was a bit weak though.

other dish was vermicelli with vine beef. good and very tasty however lacking amount.

FOOD TRIP
Bun Ta is another Vietnamese restaurant along the busy Hopkins Street of Footscray. What sets it apart is that it looks very welcoming and clean from the outside. The menu is extensive as they serve not only the usual pho, but also various rice dishes and stir frys. Prices are still affordable and flavours are decent.

Definitely a hidden gem in the hit and miss of Footscray's Vietnamese eateries. Have tried most of the mains as a lunchtime special with rice - great value for $10 - and they have all been fresh and tasty! Combination spring rolls also a win.

Kids sent us here ,, we had the chicken ribs in salt . Which is their speciality very nice and a bowl of chicken pho . The lady who owns it was so cute . Very friendly business would go back

This place should be the staple for a visit to Footscray for Vietnamese... The food is fresh authentic and totally yum! Come and enjoy, become a regular!

Good looking restaurant, nicely designed! Loved the brightness, the food was good in flavour and was almost right, the service wasn't the best but it didn't bother me. Just a few things they need to improve on, though their flavour is almost right, sweet sour and salty balance needs a bit of work some of the food was a tad bit too salty and a tad bit too sweet.
They're service could improve if the waiters improve their memory and attention to keep track of what the customers ordered what is needed without customers asking, attention to detail is extreme important! ;)
Overall, food was quite nice, service was just decent, I would come back here again

Delicious food. Had the salty chicken ribs and mongolian beef, awesome. They have byo which is awesome. Nice place, great staff. Will come again for sure

Environment clean with relaxing music. Staff helpful and attendant.
Salted (and pepper) chicken on tomato rice - chicken was tasty and crunchy, but the tomato rice had no flavor - 4
Banh xeo with extra pork and prawn - texture was great. Crunchy ingredients, and really good texture crunch to pancake. Pancake still fluffy on top. However the taste to pancake was definitely sour...maybe Off batter? - 4

Fresh, tasty and cheap!!!. We were sat at a small side table and instantly bought a thermos of jasmine tea. I had heard about this place on the radio and wanted to try it out. The menu has a good selection and we chose pork spring rolls which were served with lettuce and dipping sauce, very tasty . Mains were rice with garlic beef which also came with lettuce and fried onion, also ordered was rice with crispy chicken ribs in salt. Both dishes were extremely good and satisfying, the rice was slightly flavoured in a mound and the presentation of these dishes was appealing. I will be returning as there is many more dishes I wish to try. The decor has been well done and the service was fast.

Bo Koh is all I need. I've been to Bun Ta twice in 2 weeks for the Bo Koh, it's that good. Such a great serving size to chase off the chill of winter. I'll have to try something else on the menu sometime! DΓ©cor is updated and clean, staff are friendly and prices are very reasonable.

Owner is so rude never ever going there food is crap and also whole order was a stuff up!! Never recommended to any one worst restaurant ever been to.

Food's nice but portions in the rice vermicelli series are surprisingly small for "Footscray standards". Not worth the price.

I went there for the first time today on recommendation from a friend and yep, it was as good as they said ! The fried chicken with salt is so amazingly delicious ! Our fried rice was also really tasty and unfortunately we were quite full so we didn't get to try much else but I will try a Bun next time, as they looked yum too :)

Good food. Visited tonight with two friends, one born in Thailand. We had the Vietnamese coleslaw with chicken, rice paper rolls with sliced pork, rare beef with tamarind salad, grilled pork fine rice vermicelli and chicken spare ribs with salt. This is one of the newer style Vietnamese restaurants that have a shiny new renovation and prices for Westerners and Vietnamese out to celebrate, rather than down-to-earth everyday food places like Pho Huong Vuong. This place is pitched somewhere between Hao Phong and Sapa Hills. I liked everything except for the fine rice vermicelli (trying to be a bit too cute with the lettuce cut up into triangles). The salads were both very fresh with good strong hit of smoky Vietnamese mint. But my Thai friend pointed out that the tamarind sauce was very sweet -- too much palm sugar -- and there was no acidity in the coleslaw, which used thigh meat rather than breast. The chicken spare ribs were crazy good but also incredibly salty. I would recommend this place to friends but I'd love it if it dialled back a bit on the sweet/salty 'safe' flavours and let rip with the sour and fishy flavours that make Vietnamese food so good.

Not the best in town. There are many restaurants in Footscray, and I can definitely say that this one can do with more improvement. The Diced Beef with Tomato Rice was served on a small plate, and they were stingy with the beef. The beef was not at all tender and was very chewy! The Vietnamese Pancake (Banh Xeo) was ridiculous and took forever to make.

Good job on the new decor and renovations though!

My hubby and I heard about Bun Ta through friends and Facebook so we head there to try it. We ordered their famous 7 topping broken rice and chicken spare ribs. Both were delicious and everything was fresh. Restaurant is very modern. Service was excellent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Shazza. This is a newly renovated restaurant which used to be called Huy Huy in the same shop. Lovely decor and same delicious food as before plus more. We travel from Geelong to eat there and are never disappointed. The owners are always very welcoming. Try the fried chicken spare ribs in salt.

Ate like sardines, felt like sardines!. Given it's their day 3 of business, they crammed everyone in, kept being pushed from waiters-very annoying by 4th push. But what put us off was they gave use used herbs & lime, waited 30 min for beef noodle soup and their Prawns on sugar cane (Chao Tom) was the most horrible I have ever been served...1 very dry, very rubbery serve for $14, their VN style coffee was not any better...too many staff, looking lost...with high prices for Vietnamese tapas, they will have to strive better quality otherwise they too will be lost.

$9 for a large serving of a very tasty bun rieu - highly recommended!

This is a photoview post (contains mostly photos only). Would we go back? We wanted to like it, we really did. But I'm afraid we went in expecting something new and exciting and left a little disappointed and underwhelmed. The sticky rice and the fish was nice, but there are tastier options nearby...
Fatboo
The pork was succulent and it had a nice chargrilled flavour.

We headed out looking for a lunchtime Vietnamese soup hit in Footscray and decided to give the fresh face of Bun Ta Kitchen a try. Their Facebook page explains that Bun Ta Kitchen is re-launch of the former Huy Huy Β after the 12 year old business underwent a major renovation late last year.
