Loved every dish from chili corn to manchurian to paneer dosa and their spicy food was actually spicy!! The best part was sticky date pudding.. it was so yum! I loved the interiors of the restaurant especially the bangles!! The food is worth for the price!! Definitely going there again..
Sankranti, the spacious restaurant with friendly staff and the delicious food. View of the Interior designs and the pictures in the menu made the dining experience excited. They serve tender and juicy kebabs, very soft breads(rumal roti and pulkas) and gongura chicken is really finger licking... yum. And don't ask me about the dessert, sticky date pudding with the sauce and ice cream on it, it's mouthwatering and yeah specially for the dessert I would love to go back again n again.
One of the best Indian food experience in Melbourne after a very long long time. Their speciality is Andhra Cuisine and a must try for anyone visiting.
The tandoori selections are to die for, with the most succulent and perfectly cooked kebabs.
The ambiance is inviting and warm, with a very friendly and helpful staff.
A definite revisit in the offing!!!!
We had an awesome time celebrating my son's bday there. Food was really good. Our guest couldn't praise enough. We had a variety of dishes and the spice level was to our preference as they made sure it's the level we had asked for. Children were well catered for with special order meals. Very generous servings and the staff was one of the best in any restaurant. They made sure our guest were happy and kept asking if we needed more.
Great place. Will definitely go back again and again.
Thank you for making our special evening a more special one.
Loved the non-veg platter and the Biriyani! Would definitely recommend this restaurant !
This is the best South Indian food i have ever had in my life, kudos to the chef and this team over here. I am sure that no other restaurant can even touch the quality of this food. It would be a sin if you don't taste mango lassi at the end. Will come here whenever possible. Million cheers to the entire team of Sankranthi Australia.
Awesome Food, Great ambience and Friendly staff.
Experienced Sankranthi special Authentic South Indian thali with 29 items like never before.
Totally njoyed the food. Complements to the Chef and the staff.
Will visit again.
Absolutely mouth watering delicious food. Great value and fantastic service from the young waitress.
Great, very tasty food. Friendly staff. Highly recommend!
It only took 6 months of recovery and avoidance post-India travels, but my taste buds were finally ready for another Indian feast again. And what better way to reintroduce my palate than with some takeout from a local favourite down the road, Sankranti, for an easy weekday dinner. Making things even easier, I was able to sort out ordering and contactless payment through the recently-launched Zomato Takeaway on the app. Once the order and payment is confirmed, which took next to no time, a collection time is then sent through. Easy peasy, no? As a bonus for the hard hit hospitality industry, there is absolutely no commission fees for venues for the first three months. Check out the Zomato app now to see if your favourite restaurant is operating through Zomato Takeaway, with the list of participating venues constantly growing.
First time coming here and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to try things I don’t see on every Indian menu so we ordered the Mysore bonda and plain dosa for entree. Both were delicious. For main we had Chicken Afghani served with omelette on top, egg dum biryani and naan. My only minor gripe would be that there wasn’t much chicken in the chicken afghani. Either way, good food and will come back.
I tried biryani with starters well presented, dish is delicious, good cooking and touches the original flavour. Highly recommended. Friendly staff and service is also good my food is served in no time .
Great food. It's the first time in Australia I ever felt like I'm having Chicken fried rice, similar taste as of the fried rice we used to have from India.
Note: The food is too heavy, so tasty and less price. so if you are really hungry dont think anything else, go here and order.
This place was recommended by a friend for its authentic South Indian food and we wanted to try it since a long time. The mirchi bajji was absolutely tasty! The punukulu and samosa tasted okay. The pappu Charu Annam was the best. It was finger licking good! The chicken dum biryani was good. Overall, the food was good and worth the money. The service and ambience were good too❤️
Place looks a bit dated but the food is pretty good. Service was very friendly, though did have some slight trouble with zomato gold.
The menu is a bit overwhelming and a bit poorly organised imo. But yeah lots of choices of different cuisines.
Our food came out pretty quickly and was really delicious especially the curry and naan breads.

What I ordered
Special Goat Haleem
Rumali Roti
Schezwan Fried Rice
How they served
Lady who served us food was really sweet, had great smile and got every dish in minutes and every request of us was acknowledged well.
Tummy Talk
Haleem was fantastic, it went well with Roti.
It was not spicy enough for me so I got green chillis and added to it.
Fried rice was little dry and not greatest of the taste.
All their South Indian dishes are to die for!! Their breakfast options reminded me of home! Have been there more than 6 times and the taste of food reminded consistent. Love their special festive thalis!!
Eat. Sleep. Create. Repeat.

Great Indian resturant. Large space, comfortable seats. Music level just right. Plenty of choices. The mushroom dish medium chilly taste just right.
Best Indian restaurant in the Footscray area. The Indo chinese Ckn Lollipops are similar to the ones I've had in India. The tandoori chicken is brilliantly marinated and comes in a platter dish. The poori mirch is a must try....make sure to ask for food to be mild if you have a moderate spice tolerance. The staff are attentive and polite. Try the Mango kulfi for dessert.
Great food, I'm constantly impressed. I'll never not come back. The chilli chicken is worth going to jail for, and the staff are very friendly.
Great Indian!
Really good food, authentic and generous in portion sizes. The starters were so tasty. The main dishes were huge and full of sauce. Provided with so much rice
We had two naans which were great and full of flavour.
Busy place but really reasonably priced. very good interiors and nice ambience
This has been our go to place when we craved home (Andhra) food. Tried biryani and thali and never disappointed . Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for authentic Indian food !
Indian food at its very best. Dont tell me the food in Melbourne doesnt compare to what we get in India! There are some pretty good restaurants that leave you satisfied and sankranthi is one of them! Dont miss this one guys!
Home away from home! Wonderfully prepared food, though slightly expensive on a student budget. The service is what makes me go back. Keep up the good work you guys :)
We hadn’t been here for a while and decided to pop in. The food is always good but the service can be a little slow. All the same in saying that I would still come and visit this place as you will enjoy the food. It was the first place outside of India that I found dragon chicken.
Tonight I had butter chicken with a garlic nan and rice and my wife had beef madras. Washed down with a kingfisher and we had a great meal

Been here thrice and every time we ended up there it was closed though their website said they where open. They need to clearly work on there online systems so customers are aware of whats happening.
So the fourth time we called them before going and so glad it was open. I ordered the Andhra Chepala Pulusu, Raagi Sankati with Ghee, Kodi Kura and Pappucharu annam. They where all super delicious. Took me back in time when amma would make all of that at home.
Great customer service and they are pretty quick with their servings.
Veg Thali had a really good variety and pretty good flavour. A touch pricey but nicer decor than your average Indian restaurant and very friendly staff making it a very good option for a marked occasion.
We decided to try the new Indian place in town as we had heard good things. We did not go there but we got menulog delivery.
Delivery was super quick and right on the time estimate (which was quick!), yet the driver did not come to our door. Instead they called and we met them outside.
The food, palak paneer and dal makhani was very tasty with a good amount of heat. We did not order any rice but prepared our own, at $5 a serve we thought rice was a bit expensive. The palak paneer had a decent amount of paneer.
We will definitely order again and we'll probably visit soon to try the thali offerings
We'd been meaning to visit Sankranti for a while and got around to it on a wintery Saturday evening. The long windowed frontage faces on Barkly Street. Inside the fit out is bright and modern with some Indian touches. We were sat fairly close to the entrance and waiting area for take away and delivery pick-ups which saw some traffic while we were there. Otherwise there were several other groups of diners, but in a big space, it didn't seem busy.
I've eaten here three times and been happy on each occasion. The food is tasty, the staff are friendly, and the prices are fair. The dosas are particularly nice and come with delicious sauces, and the tandoor cooked paneer entree is a favourite of mine. The chai is particularly creamy, and is lovely as a liquid dessert. I'll be back.
The interior is very ethnic and loveable. The food is skewed towards South India but I was fine. Offers some unique dishes like Brocalli kababs. Little expensive but worth a shot
I came here on the recommendation of a friend who said it was the best Indian food he has ever had.
I came for lunch on a Saturday. The service was very good and the staff were attentive. We ordered a few dishes (2 entrees (one was the tasting plate, non-vegetarian), a curry, 3 x naan bread) and the food was delicious. It was very tasty and not fatty or oily like some Indian restaurants can be. Everything tasted very fresh!
If you are looking for great Indian food then I definitely recommend this place - I will definitely be going back soon to try some other dishes.
Newly opened multicultural restaurant - specializes in Indian.
Delicious food, filled with all different types of spices that India has to offer.
However, communication at times can be difficult and service is slow. Well worth the wait for the food though. I enjoyed the food so much I forgot to take photos of everything else we ate 😅
recommended.
Update 27/5- Food still wonderfully delicious and service was much more attentive and friendly today!!!
After couple of visits to the place, my wife and I decided to host our first anniversary here. The food was absolutely delicious and all our guests (40) loved it ! Tough the service was slow the quality of food and flavours overpowered our experience !
Must try at Sankranthi :
keema parchi mirchi palav
Pani Puri
Royyala vepudu
Papucharuannam

The visit to this outlet was on a very special occasion, and eventually it [Sankranti Australia] turned out to be a very special place, run by some really passionate and amicable souls. One of my friends from India bought a new property earlier this month, and he chose to treat some of us at one of his favourite Indian restaurants – Sankranti Australia. After a trip to Williamstown, followed by a few rounds of pool last Saturday, we felt it was time for dinner. Since the host had his plans set, we headed straight to the venue. We arrived at around 8.45. We were seven of us, plus a baby.
AMBIENCE:
The place was partially full when we arrived. The ambience was refreshing: vivid colours all around. The large glass windows and the lighting was a perfect match. The décor was indeed a fusion between the modern and the traditional. There were kites of different sizes, shapes and hues hanging on the walls. The seating was quite comfortable. There’s a bar at the centre of the dining area – small yet attractive. The pictures attached should give further idea. Sankranti is a special word in Hindu custom and the place seemed to do justice to that.

FOOD:
The aroma of the Indian dishes had already given us an appetizing welcome. So the moment we got settled we order the entrees, which comprised of Chicken Sweet Corn Soup, Chicken Hot & Sour Soup, Crispy Chilli Baby Corn, Tandoori Non Veg Platter, Achari Mutton Chops, to go with Scotch for most, Lemon Lime Bitter for me. The soups were perfectly appetizing – authentic flavours, with right mix of condiments. The Crispy Chilli Baby Corn was a special recommendation from the folks who had already tried the dish here, yet I felt it was a tad over-fried; no complaints though. The Tandoori Non Veg platter was really good! It obviously was an assortment of various items, yet each item could stand on its own; just one word for the dish – delectable. Achari Mutton Chops was the only blemish of the evening; firstly it missed the chef’s attention; secondly, once it arrived it felt undercooked – for obvious reasons we might assume. Nevertheless, by the time it arrived we were midway through our main course, so we didn’t allow the issue to linger once we duly notified the staff [later addressed by the manager].
There were no apparent hiccups with the main course though, which included Kadai Chicken, Chicken Dum Biryani (your truly is a biryani addict), Chicken Tikka Masala, Plain Naans and Plain Rotis. Everything was served on time. Neither the quality nor the quantity fell short of our expectations. We barely had any space left in our tummies for the desserts by the end of it. Nonetheless, we pushed ourselves for our default favourite - Kulfi. One thing that I particularly liked at Sankranti is the chefs put conscious effort into the presentation of the food, and I can tell you not many Indian restaurants in Melbourne do that – at least very few of the ones that I have visited so far. They still have a long way to go; they are on course though. Kulfi was perfect, topped with basil leaves. I would surely love to try some of the Indian street food, when I visit this outlet the next time.

SERVICE:
The staffs are quite polite, warm and patient. Sankranti Australia is one of those places where you find people who are willing to traverse the learning curve. They come across as honest and sincere. For instance, with regard to the issue with Achari Mutton Chops (as mentioned above), after we raised our concern with the waitress, it was the manager/owner who attended to us in person and offered to make the dish complimentary. We acknowledged his apologies but politely turned down his offer – after all to err is human. The folks need to improve on their billing settlement though. The margin of error isn’t much here in any business whatsoever, and the loss could be either way. I would rather not go into the details for sake of professionalism. I must add, the manager, Sree, had a hearty chat with me and went on to introduce some of his chefs who hailed from my state [Odisha] in India. At the end of the day, there are happy faces bidding you goodbye, after a sumptuous meal and some heartwarming service. Can anyone complain? I won’t either.

PARTING MESSAGE:
To Sree & Co., you guys have set up a wonderful place, and I hope you go places! My best wishes with you all. I look forward to visiting you again soon. Thanks for your hospitality; we all had a wonderful evening indeed. Great job, given that it’s only been 3 months, you can only get better. Keep it up Team SA!
Cheers,
Partha
The vibe in Sankranti Australia with its large windows and brightly themed interior is fresh, modern and inviting. This theme is carries over to the waiting staff and most importantly of course, the food. The Pani Puri is my favorite dish and a great way to kick things off as a starter, however the Aloo tikki chat and the papri chat weren't far behind. With such a great array of choices of traditional and fusion dishes of high quality produce, Sankranti Australia is best enjoyed as a group to maximize the number of dishes experienced. Absolutely loved it!
I live on the South East of Melbourne and can honestly say it was definitely worth the drive. I've been to about a dozen different Indian restaurant and only Sankranti Aus' were able to customise their food to satisfy my taste buds (it took a while... but I expected that if it was freshly made). Besides the spicyness of one particular dish everything else had nothing to fault. I can't stress how fresh the food was ESPECIALLY the breads. Decently priced foods and good service always makes me happy. Definitely going back there again.
Best Indian restaurant in Footscray, with authentic dishes you can't find elsewhere. We've been here a couple times, including for their special festival weekend thali. Food has been on point every time. The owners are extremely friendly and go above and beyond with their service.
First time here.. wonderful experience. Very authentic and different menu. Friendly staff and really good service. Sure will go back many times ... A must try..
Everything about this place is excellent. Great ambience, very friendly staff and the best food. Thier range covers both South and North India. Very authentic taste with reasonable prices. Presentation is very unique. Would go back many times. Being a foodie, very glad to find this place
We are so glad this restaurant is in our neighbourhood. We tried three entrees and three mains plus biriyani and naan, everything was super delicious and very reasonable. The service was very friendly, efficient and prompt. It is a hidden gem, but wouldn't mind sharing this great restaurant with everyone else.
There is a reason we keep going back to this place for Indian food even though we are on the other side of Melbourne. Its one of the best.
The best Indichinese and Tandoor entries
Biriyani rightly spiced.
Papri chaat hit the mark
The food was ready in a few minutes.
Although short staffed there was no complain about the service.
Live live live this restaurant. Authentic and delicious Indian! Butter chicken will melt your heart and the lassie ! Yum.
Staff great and helpful, food cooked quickly and portion sizes are spot on.
nice restaurant, food is good, customer service is good aswell. Just require few upgrade here and there to maintain standards for example 'proper ice bucket for wines/champagne'.
Overall we enjoyed our visit and will love to visit again 😊
I had a wonderful experience at Sankranti Australia. The ambiance was great Food was Yummy. Service was really Quick.
Good Staff, Friendly Service and Best Managers.
Butter Chicken, Lamb Chops, Chicken Biryani Must must try stuff.
Keep up the good work
Cheers
The innovative customer service (a robot delivers your food) and ambience is good. However, food is on next level high. Good place to celebrate special occasions. On weekends or busy hours, finding parking near by can be a challenge. There is ample of parking in the vicinity of 100m though.
