Friendly and polite staff!
Came for the wagyu meat, bang for your buck!
Loved the oysters w/ cheese!
You get 10$ voucher for spending over $50, so will come back next time :)
Great dining experience, would definitely come back. Great service and very prompt. The food was good and the all you can eat was a fun dining experience. Well priced per person, the only fault was the tables were small so I would recommend smaller groups.
Tasty and affordable Japanese food out in Melbourne's west. Kaiseki Japanese Restaurant offers an extremely large (slightly overwhelming) menu offering an all-you-can-eat set menu (where you can choose a selection of dishes from the provided range) as well as a la carte dishes. Not the most authentic Japanese food, but it is definitely the most value-for-money experience I have come across.
Their charcoal grill meats enhance the experience by involving the customer in the grilling of the meats. Though it isn't a necessity here, in my opinion. The must-try's include their Pork and/or Chicken Katsu, and their Tempura, of which the batter is super crispy, crunchy and delicious. The sushi/sashimi platter offers a refreshing option to the other cooked, grilled or fried dishes.
Staff are friendly, and the venue decor has quite an authentic and intriguing feel to it with a rustic wooden design, making you feel like you are dining in an alleyway somewhere in Japan. The casual nature of the dining experience (you press a button to let the staff know you are ready to order) proves this restaurant a good choice for those living close by, who are seeking an exotic cuisine, without all the fuss.
Came here with a few friends for lunch and opt for the All you can eat Charcoal BBQ and Japanese buffet option. For $32.99 the food is really fresh, made to order and came out piping hot.
Some favorite dishes to note are:
- eggplant misoyaki: creative dish placed inside the eggplant shell. Soft, juicy eggplant in their nice sauce.
- salmon nigiri: classic fresh raw salmon on rice.
- croquette: super fluffy and creamy inside and crunchy on the outside.
Charcoal BBQ was ok. The Angus beef, pork belly, beef flank and bolar blade were not marinated as a dipping sauce was provided and it brings out the flavor. It would be great if there were a few more different dipping sauce options eg. Ginger, sesame, etc. Nevertheless, the meat had a nice Charcoal taste to it. It wasn't sliced very thin so there was some texture biting it, but wasn't exactly melt-in-mouth soft beef and some were a bit chewy.
The chicken thigh fillet had a thin brush of teriyaki-like sauce and sprinkled in sesame seeds. This had more flavour and was one of our favorites.
The dessert was matcha and black sesame ice cream on red bean. I liked the black sesame flavor more.
Overall, it was a really nice lunch here. Thank you for inviting us.
I heard a few things about the restaurant. So I came with expectation.
Venue is perfectly decorated with sophisticated wooden post and wall. It feel quite spacious and comfortable plus they have more upstairs seating.
Service wise staff is very friendly and patience to explain what is available and how to eat. I like that they have a little bell to ring on each counter.
We order the lunch special ramen, mixed sashimi and fukutonei roll. Ramen is done perfectly without msg. Sashimi is fresh and tasty.
I will come back again for me
Eat. Sleep. Create. Repeat.

Booked a table for All you can Eat. Food was yum and a great place for friends gathering as the staff was nice and the place is just 2 mins away from the train station and car park.
Great value for the price, glad to find a lovely Japanese restaurant like this in Footscray!
Forgot to take the food photos (we were starving..) so just post the venue photos for this time. Will definitely come back.
first time dining at this japanese restaurant in footscray. alway been in footscray but never came along this side for food. we had the chicken katsu, ramen and sashimi platter to share everything were fresh and particular. will be back a again to try the all you can eat menu next time.
Perfect !
This place is awesome. Awesome value, awesome meat, awesome portion ! We ordered wagyu rib finger, scotch fillet, ox tongue, and osyter blade. Best ! Cant get this in the city. (#fyi, they only have bbq sauce for the bbq but its good !).
Ordered the octopus , salmon sashimi, and the grilled oyster. Octopus was ok, I like the chewy texture but too wasabi taste was strong. The salmon sashimi has a really thick cut ! The grilled oyster was really really fishy. Its really fishy to the fact that we dont want to finish it.
But besides that, everything is perfect !
Will try their all you can eat with angus beef in the future.
Hope you guys enjoy the food here as we do !
#FYI, all cards payment will incure 1.5% surcharge.
Cheers ! :D
Very cool Japanese place to be. The ambience attracted all my attention! Not to mention about the food! OMGosh, they taste fabulously nicer then i thought!
Definitely recommend it to all my friends
I'm surprised to find this little gem hidden in Footscray near the train station.
Ambience and decor i will give them 5/5 very modern and trendy.
Food quality is amazing but it can be improved 4/5
Service is attentive and prompt 5/5
Overall 5/5 it's hard to find great quality food and great service in this area. Highly recommended
Rating it higher for the potential - rather than what it is serving now.
Ordered:
Prawn & Vegetable tempura teishouku ($15.00)
Dengaku Tofu teishouku ($13.00)
Pork Katsu: Pork katsu with homemade katsu sauce ($14.00)
Chicken Karaage: ($13.00)
Eggplant Misoyaki: Eggplant with Miso Sauce ($12.00)
Small Sashimi ($17.00)
Takoyaki: Deep fried octopus balls with mayo and takoyaki sauce ($10.00)
Review:
If you were wondering why our orders were exactly the same @Cindy it's because we ate together.
Incredibly similar experience - the Eggplant Misoyaki is a must have.
Although the miscommunication with the waitress was unfortunate and inconvenient, the place rectified their mistake with possibly one of the best complimentary matcha icecreams with the sweetest drizzle of chocolate sauce.
The interior is absolutely stunning and a step towards a more 'classy' place. With thoughtful coat hooks, the small Japanese themed figurines by the door, I'm in love with the details.
I genuinely hope this place gets an opportunity to prove itself - give it a go!
Food was a solid 5
Service was not very good. Servers were not clear when communicating the rules and it made it a bit awkward.
It felt like they had been burnt by food wastage too many times and are a bit angry about it.
They wanted to charge us an additional $10 due to not eating all the white rice ...
But the food was very good 👍
Went here today for the 7:30 session all you can eat. The selection was good and we particularly enjoyed the tuna nigiri and the beef tongue. The beer on offer is good would recommend that too.
The layout of the restaurant reminded me of Japan and the grills they had controlled the smoke well.
Overall for the price the place is worth a visit.
Good decent menu. It is a pity that their liquor licence is yet to be finalised. We had the sashimi, grill fish and the BBQ dinner set. The selection of sashimi is not hugh but portion is great. The quality of the meat is great which goes very well with rice. Grill fish is lovely, juicy and well cook. We will definitely come back again, hopefully they would have gotten their liquor licence by then 😀
What a surprise! I walked in expecting a simple lunch and got blown away by what I got. Fresh Sashimi, tasty Miso, nicely seasoned salad, with a fantastic presentation. I love Japanese food and am ecstatic that a new Japanese restaurant of this caliber has opened up in Footscray. Keep up the good work, I'll be coming back many times to try everything on the menu!
Not sure why this place is getting less than 5 star reviews. If you can't point to something on a menu, eat, pay, and leave then I'm not sure what to tell you.
Look at this delicious food. You just point to it in the menu, out it comes, and it's super delicious! Eat great food here!
We ordered an amazing wagyu beef and the BBQ sauce was delicious. The price is reasonable and we were very satisfied with the fried chicken, sushi and takoyaki. The staff is really nice as well, the manager gave us extra ice cream! We found a gem in Footscray and we will come back!
Theres a lack of photos because the food was too delicious to think about the phone.
Had a late "light" dinner for a party of 5, we were served and completed within 30min because the service was efficient and friendly. There's also a button on the wall when you need.
Ordered 2x special sets including bbq meat plates, 2x very fresh salads(including seaweed), 2x tempura and a pot of matcha green tea.
The BBQ was the cleanest I've ever seen in Melbourne and the extraction fan is within the BBQ so theres no smoke in the air.
Will definitely be returning, thank you Kaiseki for the experience!
Fantastic food and great service. As well as the usual Japanese fare (sushi, sashimi, Katsu, tempura, all made really well), the signature dishes are meat that you cook yourself on the charcoal grill built into your table.
All u can eat $35 , very good price for bbq and other food. Taste is very yummy. Staff is good service. Free first drink as well. I will come back
