Really enjoyed the hu tieu kho hoac mi kho.
The bowl was flavoursome and generously portioned.
Looking forward to trying the soup version next time.
Standard asian service and it's cheap so you can't complain. Whatever comes out from the kitchen first will get delivered to your table. Portion size is big, i got the noodle with stir fried beef. It is very good. I would return.
I got delivery
I had the pork and prawn rolls which were very nice.
Fresh and minty with a kind of hoisin fish sauce thing.
Also the pork and prawn dry rice noodles.
It was really good. Lots of different cuts of pork and crackling. It was a kind of hot/sweet/sour flavor with nice crunchy vegetables nuts and a quail egg. It was a very decent size. It also came with some fresh chilies and some lemon which brightened everything up.
one prawn :(
Will definitely order again.
I also got some free soup!
Their seafood noodle soup is seriously delicious. Really satisfying and so tasty.
Can’t wait to go back. It’s perfect for the cold and wet Melbourne ‘s winter
Hu Tieu is on point 👍
I love that it’s a clean broth- the lemon and chilli flavours really stand out, and I really like the biscuit in the soup too.
Would 100% return for this dish!
This place has it's charm. Although the menus never coordinate and the price tag isn't updated on the menu,i somehow came to this restaurant for three times. I was introduced to this place by a friend and was told their special noodle was very nice. Since then, i always come back for this dish as i havent been able to find the same dish from other Vietnamese restaurants and it seriously tastes good. In this recent visit, i have also ordered a beef stew and salt pepper calamari. Love the beef stew and it is really flavorsome and well cooked. The calamari wasnt the best i tasted but it was ok. Will certainly be back again.
My go to place for a great bowl of Hu tieu mi tap cam (combination noodle soup)! All the produce used is so fresh and I guess it helps being located just behind the market. Their Lau de (Goat hotpot) is also a must if you're game.
Great place for broken rice and well presented. Generous amount of rice and sides. Good service and the place is clean. Sweet noodle broth and food comes out quick. Tad pricey but worth it.
Had a handful of dishes, the crispy quail and the house special where fantastic and really all the other were damn good too, except the liver which i personally do not like but a fellow dinner loved.
Great food and lovely people. Second visit and will be back for more.
Always have the dry noodle dish on the chef's recommendation page when I go here. Never let's me down. Haven't really tried anything else from there.
Sometimes you need to know what a place specialises in or you will be disappointed. The problem with so many Vietnamese Noodle places is that they are so dynamic and eager to please that their menu covers everything Vietnamese and even Chinese!
This is the case with Phu Vinh. They special is Hu Tieu and that's what people should try first and foremost. I have been coming here for years when I lived in Melbourne and it appears that their quality has not dropped after being away for 8 or so years. The noodle sounds deceivingly simple like Pho as it's essentially thick glass style noodles with prawn and pork in pork stock. However, when you add the fried pork croutons (pork fat), the chive, spring onions, beanshoots, some pork innards and a twist of lemon and fresh birds eyes chillis, it transform the dish into something entirely different. They don't muck around with their chilli here in Footscray and the chilli is unforgivingly hot with a beautiful flower aroma. At Phu Vinh it includes a homemade fried cracker that not many places offer anymore. The Hu Tieu could be ordered as a soup noodle or a dry noodle with sweet chilli sauce. Both different and excellent variations.
Not a bad little eatery in the heart of Footscray, right outside the market! You don't exactly come here hoping for good service, you come for the tasty cheap eats. Their specialty being the dry noodles with pork, prawn and quail egg. I got the special broken rice, a viet classic. Pretty good but not the best. Will come back to try other dishes in future
I was expecting rude service but I actually got nice ladies that didnt ignore me, like other places like this have done in the past. Their Hieu Tieu was delicious, I would definitely return. Only downsides is that food comes out in staggered intervals and the smell of incense is a bit strong, and spring rolls were served with 'out of the bottle' sweet chilli sauce, even my fussy 9yr old was like 'wheres the normal sauce', meaning nuoc cham. The quality of the noodle soups will bring me back.
From what I can remember, Phu Vinh Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant has been around for a long time. Attached to the Footscray markets, it faces the main street in Footscray with large glass windows. For ambiance, I wouldn’t pick it for a restaurant I would normally go to as it’s a bit close to the markets. However a friends recommendation sent me here to explore with a few friends. I was pleasantly surprised with the food it served, as it was full of flavour...
Food was not bad! 7 out of 10. Service was ok, food took awhile to come out. But over all was ok.
Great food. After reading some of the negative comments we were pleasantly surprised by the food at Phu Vinh. Four of us dined there last night and we were all very pleased with our meals. We'll be back again soon
Ok so here's the thing with Phu Vinh. The food is great. The service is not. Their menus are quite embarrassing as they constantly change prices. Using white out or writing over the numbers is not a good look for the restaurant.
Simple, clean and delicious Vietnamese. I go here for good Hu tieu mi kho. It's so tasty and I also feel healthy after eating it. Good flavour.
Thats The Way I Like It
+4.5
Had lunch here on a monday afternoon, the waitress was nice and attentive,we were served the tea immediately on arrival, average food, I won't order the spring rolls, ever again,it was served with sweet chilli sauce, and mint, not the authentic vietnamese mint/basil or dipping sauce, the shark fin soup was delicious!!! nice clean modern decor, small issue was the waitress had no english,so she couldn't ex plain to us bout food on the menu, which limited us to ordering food.we knew.
Nice beef pho very authentic although spring roll didn't have correct dipping sauce
Beef stew here is to die for!!! Also the flounder was so good. Have been here a few times and will keep coming back
Seafood rice noodle is awesome!!
Fast service and great Vietnamese hu tieu.. Best in Melb
Service is poor, so is the quality of the meat. As with many of the other reviews for this place, i agree that the service is poor. Even worse then other Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray. The ideas and flavours of the food are pretty good, but the meat they use is of the worst quality. Don't try the pork belly, more gristle then meat.
Been going here for 15 years! Addicted! Love the seafood egg noodle pho, but recently less prawns and fishballs are not a good enough substitute! Bring back the prawns, and the cashew! Havnt found another vietnamese restaurant in melbourne that can rival their stock broth ( I've tried pho all over the city and Richmond!) so I will continue to drive 22kms there to get my 'fix'!
Not as good as it used to be. This place used to be alot nicer and authentic, it was one of my favourite places. Since the renovations, they've increased the prices but the standard of the food or service hasn't increased. I actually just tried to ring and order takeaway but the person who answered didn't understand my English. I would have thought 'Vermicelli with grilled pork' was a standard dish on the menu ... apparently not because all I could hear was ... silence. I then rang Hung Vuong and ordered from them instead. I noticed the waiters/waitresses struggle to understand when I order at the restaurant too, unless I point to the menu.
Great place. Speciality dish is crispy fried noodles!! Awesome authentic food.
Footscray is an amazing place - its suburb with a fairly scary rep, and "not for the faint hearted" (as my mother constantly reminds me) but I can't help but go back as the food and people are fantastic! I have to say, I tend to eat only two things in Foo
