Review Andy’s Remedy - Footscray

Great music, chill lawn vibes, bottomless brunch.. this place feels like you’re at a friends house. Antique furniture and rugs all naturally made their way to the grass.. come here for a Sunday nursing session above all else, but be prepared to pay for it, these friends don’t come cheap.

My new favourite local place, third time back this week. A perfect blend of awesome vibes, food and drinks in a beautiful and lush location. Loving the wooden board games and super delicious remedies. So happy this little gem has opened!

I love this place. There are not too many places in Melbourne that embody the true community spirit and this is most definitely one of them. Great food and lot's of interesting community projects in and around Happy River Cafe.

The decor/seating has changed for the better, chose the pulled pork brioche burger which came with fries. Tasted okay but nothing special about the presentation or flavours, it did come quickly; coffee good as was the service. Soup was very nice.

Lovely outdoor setting area with option of picnic rugs on the grass. Toys, wooden ride on pikes and riding toy cars available in the outdoor area. Suitable for toddler and probably preschoolers.

Nice location but the staff is not that friendly, I only go for the food at times. The second last time I was there, I didn’t ever get service :’( In their eyes it’s a crime if you don’t order a coffee. Good god sometimes you don’t feel like one !

Owner is extremely friendly and welcoming. Was my first visit to Andy's Remedy and it was so relaxing. Will be back very soon

Andy's Remedy sources some of their bakery goods from small independent suppliers and unfortunately DO NOT PAY their bills despite multiple entreaties to do so. They do not return calls and refuse to address matters.
I personally would not eat at a place that does not pay its suppliers and would encourage everybody who agrees that not paying bills is WRONG to also do so.
The Gluten-Free Foodie
Andy's Remedy is a cute and kitsch place to hang out and a wonderful spot for late snacks and a coffee on a weekend. The kitchen is open til 5/6ish depending on how busy it is. My friend and I enjoyed a tea each and she ordered some polenta chips. I was sad I had already had lunch as there were a number of great sounding gluten free and dairy free meals to chose from. I hope this place gets neighborhood support to keep going. Loved the vibe.

Was really looking forward to visiting Happy River and found out it’s now changed owners to Andy’s Remedy. I only had time for a take out coffee, however I was concerned, 11am on a Saturday and it was quiet, that
Is not a good sign! Unfortunately I got the wrong coffee and had to send it back (can’t drink normal milk) and when I finally did get my soy FW, it was literally soy milk, zero coffee.
Unfortunately I won’t be returning.

What a cosy place tucked away in Footscray. Its quite quaint and the staff are super lovely. The concept behind it being healthy there are heaps of options to pick from. A good coffee to start with a great cake to end it off.
Dine And Dash
We were invited to Andy’s Remedy the other night to sample their tapas dinner menu and to have a drink! We were pleased to see that they have an extensive menu which accommodates for those with dietary requirements.

The tapas dishes were all excellent - everything was super tasty and well-presented. Our highlight from the night was definitely the Lamb Shank special! The meat was succulent and tender and the mashed potato was nice and creamy. Definitely a great place to kick back and relax! There was great ambience, good music and delicious food. Would highly recommend!

4.5
Tonight we visited Andy’s Remedy in Footscray overlooking the Maribyrnong river. On a warmer night you could dine outside but tonight was very winter chilling so we stayed warm inside. It was great to see a menu that had such a variety and plenty of inclusions for gf, vegetarian and vegan it was almost as eclectic as the decor.

We ordered cocktails and perused the menu whilst staring out at the lit up city skyline. We started with the warming berry brew cocktail. Served in a tea pot with a side of Gin and Cointreau, meant I could pour my “tea” and adjust the flavours to my liking.

We also ordered the Trojan God which had just about everything I’ve ever liked In the one glass. Pimms and dry ginger, tick, white and spiced rum, tick, tick, tick, tick, this drink was next level freaking delicious.

To snack whilst siping we devoured the arancini, these gorgeous crusted arancinis where coated in the most divine salsa, they both had a wonderful depth of flavour with the capsicum in the veggie and the bbq sauce with the pork.

We also tried the Salt and pepper calamari with the chili maple glaze. These flavoursome crunchy coated morsels were bang on delicious, if you like sweet and savoury together, then you need to dip in this maple bath of heaven.

I was going to be a brave meat eater and give the plant meat cheeseburger a go but unfortunately it had sold out so had to go for winter comfort and chose the Lamb shanks. This substantial and hearty shank arrive a top a silky tasty garlic mash with deliciously seasoned broccolini. The shank was giant and fall off the bone tender.

We also chose the Parmigiana with a twist. A thick crumbed chicken topped with cheese along with smashed avo and mild cream style sauce. All so full of flavour. The avo with the tomato salsa, cheese and chicken was just spot on.

The Locally sourced carrot cake was our dessert, it was sublime. With spicy flavours, texture and crunch of fresh nuts, icing that was delightful and rich and not too sweet. Carrot cake is my favorite dessert and one is a real winner. One of the best I have ever had.

We really enjoyed our dining experience tonight. Thanks so much for inviting us in.

I had one of the worst food experiences ever here. No soy milk, weird honey mint jelly dressing on everything that was sugary sweet. Cold food on two of our meals, overcooked meat. Would not ever go back, advise against it.

We used to visit Happy River Cafe which we really enjoyed so were surprised to see the new name and unfortunately disappointed with the new business. Firstly, where has all the outdoor seating, blocks, and kids stuff gone? It looks very bare outside on the lawn area now with only a few tables. We were looking forward to some lunch but they only do a brunch menu to 2pm, then start tapas at 5pm. On the specials board, they had sold out of the pasta (by 12:15pm!) so I had a pulled pork brioche which when it eventually came out was very average, with over salted chips and dry brioche. We noticed out of the four tables outside, two of them had orders arrive which were missing items or were wrong, and the wait for everyone was excessive even through it wasn't busy. It's a shame, but hopefully they can work out how to improve things - the menu, the outside ambience, and the service, in time.

A lovely new hang out in Footscray - just 10 mins walk from Footscray station or a cheap Uber from anywhere in the CBD. A cafe by day and a very chill, laid back bar at night with great cocktails and lots of games to play, I can definitely see myself whiling away a few hours here!

Andy himself was on hand to greet us when we arrived and we loved how genuinely enthusiastic and excited he was about this venue. He explained that the night menu is still evolving, so might have a completely different feel in a few months time. Currently the menu is spanish style tapas; we had the arancini balls, crispy calamari with maple sauce, polenta chips with mushroom pate, patatas bravas and meatballs. Everything was delicious except for the arancini balls which had very little filling. I particularly enjoyed the calamari which was super crispy and the maple sauce was delicious.

The cocktails are the real highlight though - we had the RSVP which was presented gorgeously in a crystal class of soda water with shots of absinthe and gin. Mixed in together it was really lovely and refreshing. We also had the Remedy Lawn Tea which was black tea, rum and tequila served in a teapot. This was a bit strong for me but my dining companion loved it.

With cocktails at $15 and the tapas dishes all under $10 it’s a great value place to hang out!

A random search of bars in Footscray brought up Andy's Remedy. I had not heard of it so discovered by messaging them on Facebook that they have replaced the old Happy River Cafe.

Chatting to Andy he advised that they had just started opening of an evening from 5pm, so we decided to give it a go. Well worth it!

Classy decor in an already excellent setting. Andy was friendly and knowledgeable with the wine menu.

As smokers we knew we would be sitting in the lovely grassed area and spotted a cute fluffy bench seat and some cushions under a shady tree and Andy was accommodating in bringing us over a table.

We kicked back enjoying our glass of Shiraz in gorgeous crystal glasses and enjoyed the sunny afternoon.

We had somewhere else to go so we were unable to stay longer, but we will definitely be back for the great ambience, music and to try the food.

Also looking forward to an excellent Sunday sesh 😊

Thanks Andy for a great arvo see you soon
