Review Krishna On Barkly - Footscray

Eugene Tan
What a hidden gem! Do not let the bland decor fool you. The food is deliciously vegan/vegetarian and made with care and attention. Expect to be greeted with a warm welcome when you enter. The time to arrival of food is slow but well worth the wait. Highly recommend the jackfruit masala! Yum!

First time dining at Krishna on Barkly since we moved to the area, definitely a gem of Footscray! Shashi's cuisine is authentic and delicious, her staff is kind and attentive. Be ready to feast in a true family owned indian restaurant. Fantastic all vegetarian menu, soooo many options. Will be back for sure to try them all :)

I ordered palak paneer and the palak ( spinach ) they used was the frozen one which they charge 16 dollars. How can anyone cook the frozen and packed spinach 🤭🤔🤨 in a restaurant after charging 16 dollars. And I asked the owner when im paying the bill, he said that the fresh spinach has got dirt and mud in it 🤣🤣🤣 . I never went back again.

The best Indian food I have tried in Melbourne! Went with the staff recommendations the paneer curry and a jackfruit curry which was so so so delicious. Will 100% go back and be recommending to friends. Friendly service, and a warming venue to sit in. A must try! Thank you :)

The Best Indian Food ever. I am not a Vegan but I drive 25 Klms for the food. Service is excellent. Don't judge a book by it's cover. :)

Amazing. Easily the best vegan meal I've ever eaten and one of the best meals I've had all round. The Samosa, Samosa Chaat, Vegetable Kofta, Vegetable Korma and garlic naan were all absolutely amazing and the peaceful, friendly atmosphere makes you feel like you're enjoying a family dinner in someone's home. Highly recommended.

Awesome Indian food. So many good dishes to choose from. Staff and owners are some of the nicest restaurant owners I’ve met. So friendly. And the food is all vegetarian or vegan, but you can’t even tell. It’s so good. Will be back for sure! Cheers

Wonderful vegan meal 😊Family run business and the mum (who is the chef) came out to say hello. Highly recommend!

My partner and I went to the dinner buffet last night and not only was the food amazing but the customer service is exceptional! The mother and daughter team went above and beyond to cater for us, making separate onion and garlic free food for my partner! Plus it's the only place in Melbourne I've found vegan kulfi and gulab jamun!

They have no idea about the food Order spicy came out so sweet Lady tried to defend her self Worst food ever I had Not worth to try
Darryn Gatt
Have ordered home delivery from here twice now and have not been disappointed. The food is exceptional. It is great that all of the vegetarian dishes can be made vegan including gulab jamun which is unheard of elsewhere. Thank you!

The food is fantastic and the staff are sweet. I had the chaap vindaloo, it was epic!
Chris de Jonge
Fantastic variety of flavours and textures, and very knowledgeable and accomodating to our enquiries re: the availability of gluten-free options.

This place is absolutely fantastic. We had a fully vegan feast including samosas, onion bahjis, pumpkin masala, veggie korma, breads and rice and it was all wonderful! Also very warm and friendly service! Will definitely be back soon

A must-try : such lovely service and oh-so-delicious! I love the authenticity of the flavours, the curries are rich but does not leave you feeling over-indulged, and that soft, fresh garlic naan....Even my husband (who loves meat) was delighted by the veggie meal. Thank you for cooking such beautiful food, being so flexible in adapting for dietary requirements, and looking after our animal friends too. My only suggestion is, please upload more pictures of your creations so people can see how yum they are! :)

Tried something new on the menu last night and I did not think that it was possible, but it was even better than what I usually order. Thank you so much!

A must try place for Indian vegetarian. Yummy food and lovely people!! Also cater to those who don't take onion and garlic.

Lovely people and delicious food. Small restaurant with lovely flavours. One of the fine vegetarian only restaurant(s) in Melbourne.
West Of Melbourne
We ordered a couple of curries and some naan bread. Unfortunately, the food was so salty that we couldn't finish the meal. You couldn't even taste the chilli. Only salt. So much salt.

A nice week night meal. Delicious home style cooking. Have not dined in as yet, takeaway only. When it comes to Indian food, we are spoilt for choice here in the west, hence my three star review.

This place had such great reviews and I hate to leave a negative review but I am so disappointed.

This place is very unclean, there were floating black bits in our glasses and water, dust everywhere, knives and forks had marks on them.

Food was quite expensive for how bland it was. Food was very oily on the outside but like cardboard on the inside, bread was burnt and my potato koftas were basically potato chewing gum in canned tomato soup.

Definitely many better options everywhere else, because here was an utter disappointment...

Super friendly staff and delicious food! All items on the menu can be made vegan and there are plenty of dishes to choose from. We left with smiles and full bellies - already thinking about our next visit..

Again a beautiful meal prepared with care. This place is a hidden gem, if you are Vegetarian or Vegan you will eat like a King or Queen.
Lovely service, attentive, friendly and informative. I learnt about why you cook certain foods together and the nutritional benefits.
It's more than just a restaurant, it's like eating at your favorites aunts home.

Great Veg Thali in a very friendly atmosphere. Good flavour and a big helping size for an average price. Lots of interesting places on Barkly to explore after you've finished your meal too.

This is my favourite restaurant on Barkly Street. They take a bit longer to make the food because they are probably cooking it properly! Sometimes after work I'm just craving a Malai Kofta and a naan and it always hits the spot. At Diwali they even gave us extra sweets. Such a yummy, yummy place and they deserve so much more business. A+

The owners are lovely and the food is delicious, and cooked to order! Vegetarian and Vegan friendly. The dal makhani and aloo gobhi are amazing, so is the gulab jamun.

Great food. We really love it here! The family who own it are super lovely and very accommodating, they are great with many different dietary requirements, not just vegetarian and vegan but also coeliac and others. The food is prepared to order and nothing is pre-cut/pre made so its really fresh. Occasionally they host tasty buffets and have even given us gifts on special occasions such as valentines day!

Absolutely amazing service and food, very authentic and delicious!!! In my opinion, they are one of the best indian restaurants in Melbourne (tied with Sangam tandoori in Williamstown). I will be back many more times!!

Now, I don't usually write reviews. But after the amazing experience that I had here, I just couldn't help my self.

After a long day, all my friend and I wanted was a delicious meal and bed. It was getting late and we was worried that we wouldn't find something.
When we walked into Krishna pait pooja we was greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome.
We ordered the mushroom masala and Dhal. The food was absolutely amazing!
I am very excited about this place and will definitely be back!

Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing vibe . All round amazing!
Thank you, see you again soon :)
X
Yum!! The best vegan curry ever. Love the pakoras, veg kormas and Pulau dishes. The service is always friendly and we always feel full and happy after eating here. Krishna's has become a staple for us :)

A great Indian vegetarian food in the town (at least nearby) with parking available (after 7 PM). Really tasty food with wide varieties of dishes to choose from the menu. Would have rated high if the service/waiting time for food was efficient. Cost seems to be very descent compared to other restaurants which falls under same genre. This is heaven for vegan lovers. Well lit ambience with a background of 80's Indian touch. Melodious music that goes along with food that is served.

We ordered Rotis (bread) which were healthy and soft with fresh ingredients. We could feel that. Do try Gajar Halwa for desserts. Liked it. I'd love if Chat section had "Masala Puri" as well.

Delicious meal and great service. Great onion bahji crunchy and so flavoursome, and great variety of curries. Lovely to have a place with vegan dessert options for friends.

An absolute jewel in West Footscray for herbivores. Great, friendly service and the food was delicious. Spoilt for choice with all menu vegetarian/vegan food. Would recommend the spinach pakoras for entree. Had the Malay kofta and the tofu/paneer shahi both great dishes. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes. Highly recommended!

I hate to go against the positive vibe here, but we decided to go with Krishna last night as I was impressed by their decision to go vegetarian, and we'd loved the food previously.
It was one of the worst Indian meals I've had. My husband ordered vegetable biryani, but received plain white rice with a few vegies mixed in. My Malai kofta was mashed potato floating in what tasted like canned tomato soup, and the bread was burned. We also ordered samosa, which were somehow both oily and dry at the same time, an achievement really.
I hope it was just an off day, but we won't be ordering from here again.

This place is next level, great tasting Indian food, and it can all be made Vegan! Win!!! Such a great and tasty concept, and the family owners are super nice!
Green Gourmet Giraffe
The restaurant (which is Krishna Indian Restaurant on the window, Krisha Pait Pooja on the website and Krishna on Barkly on the Facebook page) has been around for a couple of decades but only last year did it decide to become fully vegetarian with lots of vegan and gluten free options clearly marked on the menu.

In the week before Christmas, Krishna Indian Restaurant offered a vegan buffet for a week. Above is the menu on the night we went. For $28 per person it was excellent value and the food was delicious.

A great place for vegetarian and vegan, or just anyone who is more conscious of food in relation to their mind, body and spirit. It's heart warming to have a full vegan/vegetarian restaurant in the western suburbs. Deliciously cooked with love and our special dietary requirements were met. We look forward to come back for more.

The food here is really really good. Ridiculously good. It's my go to take out. It's great that I can get vegan malai kofta, something I'd been wanting for so long - Thank you!
Britt
Really tasty food for great prices. The chef's special samosas were delicious with a great mix of flavors. Lovely attentive service. I'll definitely be going back. Would be great for a large group and it's a good place to meet friends. Nice but not romantic decor with bright lighting.

Since my first visit to Krishna On Barkly a few months ago, I have been waiting impatiently to go back. Fortunately we were passing through Footscray around dinner time so Arthur and I headed in for what we were certain would be an awesome feast. And it was– Krishna On Barkly are hands down my favourite Indian restaurant. They’re a family business of twenty years who have recently removed all meat from their menu and they’re incredibly helpful when discussing changing up meals with you. There are many vegan dishes on the menu, or the vegetarian options can easily be made vegan.

We loved Krishna and plan to go back as soon as we can! We really enjoy Indian food but have struggled finding places that have vegan options in Melbourne, so we were stoked to hear that Krishna can do absolutely EVERYTHING on their menu vegan if requested - it's amazing! The menu was huge and the food tasted fantastic. The garlic naan in particular was unreal. We went with my mum who is omni and not easily impressed and she said it was the best Indian food she had ever had. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful also. Highly recommend!

Delicious! I Love that meat is no longer on the menu. Great vegan options including desserts! The garlic naan and Manchurian dishes are the best!! Highly recommended and can't wait to go back soon.

An absolute gem! 10/10. I've been visiting Krishna for quite some time.

Their food is consistently delicious. Their service is personal and so very friendly. A great location and charming little restaurant.

Dine in, delivery, banquets for groups. This place does it all to the highest standards.

Absolutely recommended.

There's something special about Krishna. I love this place! It's never very full, sadly, but that makes it feel like a secret discovery.

The food is great (they're VEGAN FRIENDLY, very unusual!), it's BYO, they play soulful Indian music, the decor's nice (rough white walls with Indian paintings), they're really friendly, what more do you want.

BEST KEPT KEPT SECRET IN MELBOURNE. My girlfriend and I order this at least once a week, its nothing but awesome authentic North Indian style food to say the least. I highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian.

Great food, Great service. We got take-out here this week, we ordered and asked for a 30 min pick up, and only had to wait 3 mins. The lamb rogan josh was great, very tender and the sauce had a great depth of flavour (we orded spicy and got spicy - so good!). The Aloo Gobi was smoky and delicious, it had fresh peas in it, something I've not had before but I enjoyed it. We also had Chicken Tikka from the tandoor and it was AMAZING. The garlic naan was great, and the paratha (without mint) was okay, a little dry, but certainly made fresh. Will definitely come again.
They even gave us complimentary raita in case the spicy rogan josh turned out too spicy. This is great service, and we will be coming back.

Krishna Pait Pooja. Excellent ambience and personalised service meant the customer service was great. However we were made to made close to 20 minutes for our food to arrive. One can argue that as a positive. What irks me is the inconsistency. I have been there about 4 times and the taste of the dishes seemed to change every time. I still think its worth going to.

So fresh, not too oily.. What a relief it is to finally find an Indian restaurant that delivers.
The mild dishes are suitable for my three yo. She loves the Palak paneer & the Malai Kofta, so did I just quietly.
I did find the Butter chicken a little dry but the sauce was so so so so delicious that it could be
overlooked. Tonight I'm trying the Lamb Vindaloo. Can't wait.

Good food, good service, highly recommend - had a curry (can't remember the name of it) which was very different to anything I had had before (plus delicious), which is unusual at an Indian place, where the menus are often nearly exactly the same everywhere.
