A simple setting with delicious vegan food. I'm glad that they have done without onion and garlic for quite some time. Will definitely return for more.
The BBH chay here is delicious! I tried the new vegan place around the corner but came back to Bo De Trai after 1 visit. The volunteers that run the restaurant speak very little English but are always warm and friendly.
We were once regulars at Bo De Trai but when they stopped doing the special cauliflower dish, we stopped going too.
Having recently discovered that you can order this special dish if you call ahead and ask them, we did just that!
Even the people on the table next to us asked about it. I did not get a photo of this special dish. This version was wonderful and I'm happy we can order it again. I think the version we had more than 10 years ago had more sticky honey sauce. The dish is (precooked) cauliflower coated in a light batter, fried and then served topped with a sticky honey sauce.
We also ordered another favourite, bean curd with lemongrass and chilli. It was like we remembered it, hot and full of lemongrass flavour.
We will definitely return soon.
The star is the bun rieu and stir fried noodle with char siu. The stir fried noodle got the perfect char and smoky flavour in it. The char siu is so nice perfect seasoning.
This is my most favourite option for vegetarian restaurant
Calm, beautiful way to spend a public holiday lunch. Bitter Melon Soup and Broken Rice. Both excellent vegan reincarnations of 2 of my Viet favourites.
Their wonton soup is my all time favorite meal in the west. It's so nourishing and great. Plus so cheap! Highly recommend to anyone - particularly vegetarians or vegans
Traditional family business ambience with good Vietnamese food. Curry vermicelli is something exotic and worth a try. Great place for a warm hearty lunch.
Tried the rice noodles with tofu and it was very fresh and tasty. Quick service (takeaway) will be back! Have tried many others in the area, some kill the food with MSG. Plenty on menu and friendly service.
I'd been meaning to try Bo de Trai since I moved to Footscray. It's a vegetarian restaurant of the Buddhist variety. That means there's lots of mock meat going on there. It's run by a few little middle-aged Vietnamese ladies, who are warm and friendly. They remind me of my aunts.
Best vegetarian restaurant yet. I heard of this restaurant from a friend a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a try today. While the service is abit slow (staffs are mainly oldies) the foods they produced are amazing and full of flavours. it's the best vegetarian restaurant by far.
