Review Dong Ba - Footscray

Yuri Little
Best bun bo hue in town. The soup Is tasty and the choice of meat is great. I always ordered extra meat, as the price is reasonable. The condiments, lemon grass oil is a fantastic addition to the noodle soup.

Get the bun bo hue!! comes w all the drippings - pork blood, fish cake, tender beef slices and pork slices. Nicely spicy, but not too much that you can’t finish the soup!! And look on the surface - those little roundels on the surface ? That’s all that wonderful flavour!!

Pictures will not do this place justice. Have you craved an authentic bowl of Banh Canh Cua Thit Heo or Bun Bo Hue? You won't find it anywhere else in Footscray. Dong Ba has quickly became one of my favourite spots in the west. Meals being roughly 13-15 a bowl. You'll find the most authentic Vietnamese flavours and smell here. Don't take my word for it, go and experience this yourself. And if you are a durian lover, boy do I have news for you! Durian smoothie is the go here, feeling like a naughty cheat day? Give yourself a treat and see how you'll fall in love with Dong Ba just as quickly as me. I've been here so many times and every friend I've recommended it to has loved it too!

Yesterday was our fourth visit and it will certainly not be our last. I've read some past reviews and just want to say something in defense of this venue re the negative comments about menu items not being avail and staff rudeness. Please get a grip people... In these pandemic times there are shortages of ingredients and cost of ingredients is higher than ever. We all see it in the supermarkets. But like many traditional cafe style, authentic restaurants in Footscray, Dong Ba, continues to serve the same amazing $ value food with the most delicious, authentic tastes. So COME here for authentic true food, leave your pretense attitude on the pavement and do what we do... ask the staff whats good today? what do they recommend? Dong Ba is not marketing themselves as anything else but authentic flavored dishes served fast, fresh and amazing value.

Service is lacking, but food was decent. Not much noodle in the medium bun bo hue, toppings were good though.

One if the best BBH I've had in Melbourne, flavourful yet not too heavy

Bun bo was all right but customer service was not acceptable as they sold out many things in the menu, not even say sorry for anything, The waitress didn’t give us menu until we ask, Waiting for 15mins and said my food was out of main ingredients She didn’t reach my table to put down my food, she just said “excuse me” and i had to get my food from her hand. I could understand if she say something else rather than just “excuse me”

Just like some of the other reviews seen in this section; our experience was horrible. I’m usually not one to judge; due to other factors such as a staff having a bad day/short staffed etc. Y’know, everyone has bad days. BUT, having to wait for 30 mins after placing our order, and seeing other tables that came in AFTER us getting their bowls of pho before ours.. we started to ponder. We were then told that the pho was sold out for the night and only enough for (1) serving, but there were the 2 of us. Absolute nightmare and quite disorganised to be very frank. No, it is not the end of the world but- our time could’ve been saved. This could’ve been informed before, and for god knows what reason it was told only after 30 minutes, and after serving and waiting surrounding tables.. that’s just quite… distasteful and obnoxious. I’m sorry but never going back.. it was just a really bad experience altogether, from the first foot stepped into the restaurant, to getting very poor treatment. It was just very poor, perhaps we were unlucky.

Heard so much about the BBH and it was quite good! The pho is pretty good too. Portions were okay but other places have larger portions. Good service.

This is the best BBH in Melbourne? What da!?!?!? The soup base is watered down! Very bland! No spices! The pig trotter still has hair on it! I had to check a few times to make sure I was eating at the correct place!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: Fragrant, Best Bun Bo Hue and unforgettable.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: coming from a Vietnamese influenced background, I’ve had my share of Vietnamese cuisine. I had heard great things from my friend and she recommended this place for Bun Bo Hue which is a classic Vietnamese dish. The dish is a spicy and beef soup.

It looked so good when it first came out and tasted as good as it looked. I was literally drinking the whole bowl of soup. The noodles were al dente and generous portion. The beef tender.

What a delicious meal.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: Don’t expect the place to be extravagant, but definitely needs a little touch up.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: Loved the BBH so much – it is one of the best ones I’ve had in Melbourne.

Pho tai (beef noodle soup), $11 small bowl, had a great flavour.

Bun bo hue (beef noodle spicy soup), $11 small bowl, is their speciality and they do it very well.

Has rows of tables that can fit groups of 8.
Eat Good Melbourne
Hands down my favourite bbh spot in Melbourne. Haven’t found anywhere that does it as tasty. Generous with the meat and good noodle texture. I love the lemongrass and chilli in the broth. Must try if you love BBH.

This place is famous for their bun bo hue which is essentially noodles in spicy broth.. Dong Ba place is found in the heart of footscray and serves up one of the best bbh that can be found in Melbourne.. their chilli paste incorporate a lot of lemongrass and it makes the entire meal very freshing as well as tasty.. the portions were quite generous and the sliced meat was also very tender and overall was a well cooked meal.. we also tried the springrolls which were ok although there were definitely other places that were made better..
great for a light meal if you are in the area...

WE LOVED 😍
This place is one of my local favourites and I have been going here for years.
The bun bo hue is delicious and I would say is the best in the western suburbs.
Service is quick and although the restaurant is lively, we have never had to wait long for a seat.
Great for a chilly winter’s night!

WE DISLIKED 😖
Avocado smoothie is a hit or miss sometimes

I just found my favourite bun bo hue go to restaurant! As soon I stepped inside, I was seated straight away and I received my bun bo hue in 5 minutes! Portions were filling and generous including noodles, meats and pork sausage. The soup definitely had more lemongrass flavour compared to other bun bo hue in surrounding restaurants. Prices were really cheap too- $12 for a medium bowl. Such a delicious and heartwarming meal.

This little bun bo hue place is class! Expect what you’d at a typical Asian eatery - in terms of service, fit out and ambience - almost non existent.

But do I really care when the food comes out piping hot, fresh and full of flavour? Surely not.

The bun bo hue was flavour heaven, with heaps of ingredients in there. I omitted the pig blood, as I’m not a fan but otherwise, with every bite of the noodles, there was meat in there. The soup was spectacular - that lemongrass in there did wonders!

The missus enjoyed the pho as they came out rare and chunky( pls note the pic was taken after a min into mixing the food ) although sliced, some were clumped up together so be sure to separate them so that there’s a hint of the broth’s flavours in every bite of the meat.

In all, I enjoyed it - I will definitely be back! A big plus was that they accepted Eftpos as well unlike their fierce competitor across the road!

I stopped by this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation that they served the best and most authentic Bun Bo Hue (she's Vietnamese, so she should know right?).

The Bun Bo Hue came with a side dish of fresh vegetables such as purple cabbage and beansprouts. A slice of lemon is also provided for you if you wish to add it into the soup (which I did). The Bun Bo Hue is definitely one of the better ones that I've tried around Melbourne and for a medium size, it's at a reasonable price of $12 too. The only negative I would give is that the beef they use can get quite clumpy and I would also refrain from drinking too much of the soup as I could feel the MSG afterwards.

They can get quite busy, so I would expect a bit of a wait for groups of 4 or larger during the busy Saturday lunch period.
Linda
They know how to make a good Bun Bo Hue here!! It was everything you hope for in a soup broth! Tasty, not too spicy and more-ish. We got a large, it was very generous and filling. Will be back for more.
Kevin C Heong
Get around this place! An absolute regular for their Bun Bo Hue with a side of spring rolls. Ambiance aside, quick service and great food make for happy customers.
Jessie Tran
The bun bo hue is so good, but the service is so bad. There’s never any spoons or small bowls for sauces. It’s not always full so surely you have time to at least make sure there’s spoons around.
Kelly Chin
I am a frequent Zomato user but never leave reviews so you could imagine HOW BAD THIS PLACE WAS. This is my first (and probably only) restaurant review I have ever left. IT WAS TERRIBLE.

BTW, I am asian so I am not phased by the whole terrible service at asian restaurant thing, but this is a whole other level.

Long story short, after over an hour of not getting our food and noticing people who came in after us got their food, we asked where our food was. The waiter was surprised we hadn’t got our food yet. He comes back and tells us that we have to reorder and the only item available was a spicy beef soup (that tasted like the after taste of raw lamb btw) . Never once did they apologise or own up to the fact they forgot about us... AND MADE US PAY FOR EVERYTHING.

We waited over an hour for food that we didn’t even want/eat. This has been the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had (guess I’ve been pretty lucky).
Alexa
I'm sad this place changed owners and the bun bo hue is no longer amazing. It used to be the best in Footscray, and I went every week after class.
Melb_Belly
We took the chance and ordered something that they didnt specialised; bun mam and banh xeo.

To our surprise both were really good. The bun mam was pungent with the sweet fermented fish flavour and the banh xeo was crispy and a good serving size.

Update: tried the BBH and it is amazing. The broth is complex and flavoursome. Generous topping. Very delicious.
C.
5 stars for the Bun Bo Hue - very unique taste with a strong lemongrass scent. However as some of the other reviews mentioned, we found hair in our bowls which was a big letdown :(
@qqHsiao
Close to my work, I rather come in here for their seafood egg noodle (dry) with prawn spring rolls and maybe 1 or 2 grill pork chop (without rice combo) if I skipped breakkie that morning.
Danielle Nguyen
One of my local favourites! Their signature dish is the spicy beef noodle soup. Have been coming here for years now and still love everything about it. Food is cheap so it is value for money. It was hot on this day that I came so I ordered the vermicelli with spring rolls and grilled pork. It was just as good. Will continue to come back here 👌

Honestly I've tried so many Vietnamese food in Melbourne and would have to say that the bbh here is the most authentic I've ever had, I'd say the flavours in the soup reminds me of the one I use to eat back in my home town in Vietnam. No bbh restaurants in Melbourne could quite compare to this place, the soup is just super rich in flavour! And I just love how there's a generous amount of lemongrass in the soup!! It just gives it that extra flavour! The staff are super friendly and lovely also! I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and if you're a person that loves eating soup dishes!! You can't go wrong with it because it's super affordable and the proportion is massive! I doubt you'll leave feeling hungry!!!!
Cameron
Worst service and food. Extremely long wait time for mediocre food. We only went to this restaurant as the initial restaurant we wanted to go to were closed for the holiday season. There were uncleared tables and the waiters were rude when we enquirer about our food after a 40-45 minute wait.

Should have gone to the restaurant across the road..
Jim Michael Siamsiaras
I ordered the grilled pork chop, shredded pork on rice for $12. Very balanced and flavoursome dish. Staff were friendly and parking can be found locally. My dish was very dirty all around and this would keep me away from the restaurant in the short term.

COME:
*for the Bun Bo Hue! Their BBH IS THE BIZZZNESSS! The hype doesn't lie, I've yet to find another restaurant that cooks it upto this standard
*the jackfruit or Avocado smoothies. They're creamy and icy and well worth the wait
*and bring cash with you as there is no eftpos at the OG DongBa.

*DON'T:
*over order as their portions are quite generous for the soups
*expect amazing service, it's all about the BBH here. They are prompt and the male attendants are generally more friendlier than the female ones.

Believe the hype, their Bun Bo Hue is great.
Staff are what you expect.
Venue is what your expect.
Bun Bo Hue is delicious, been here many times and havent had anything else so I guess I am rating a dish in the end.
Daniel Zhang
I come here almost weekly to have Bun Bo Hue and it never ever fails to disappoint. Arguably one of the best places to have BBH in Melbourne due to its authentic look, taste and smell.

The broth is a good temperature although at times can be a little cold, however they always give you a generous portion of beef and vermicelli coupled with a sweet and chilli flavoured soup base that is just beautiful to drink.

Perhaps the only downside is the customer service, which can be a bit poor at times but this could be due to a difference in culture, however the BBH always comes out within 5-10 mins. Good price at $12 for a big bowl: cash only.

Would definitely recommend people to come here for its BBH since there are very few restaurants that can produce such a fine example of Vietnamese cuisine.
Quynh Le
I have eaten here 3 times and 2 times I found hair in my Bun Bo Hue. Long hair, short hair you name it. Just imagine you are eating a bowl of soup with noddles and it also comes with hair like that is a big no no. I don't really like leaving low rating and bad review but seriously this place needs to step up or have the food inspectors to follow up with the hygienic state behind the kitchen.
JP.
Hands down one of the best crispy fried chicken dish I have had from a asian restaurant. The meat wasn't dry and the crisp skin was pretty much on point along with the rice. What topped it off was the Vietnamese ice coffee. I am pretty satisfied for lunch. Definitely recommend this dish to order if you want a light easy meal.

Unbelievable reviews here. this place is terrible!!! Service & food are really bad. Drinks are really bad like milk teas boba drink tasted weird... Pho noodle soup tasted old & gross. OMG! Sandwich are full of onions and cucumbers instead of meats in it.After eating the Pho soup half way, my stomach started feeling really bad, had to run to the restroom. Me and my brother did not finish our food or drink. Server didn't even bother checking on us. I asked the manager if he could change my drink, he told me they can't do it they will have to charge me for another one.. wow!!!! seriously?!?! Soooo DISAPPOINTED! What a waste of money.!!! Will NEVER EVER come back here!

Cash only place! Ok, trying to find good Bun Bo Hue, this place was recommended. Came here and ordered a small, flavours were there, spicy, slightly sour with the lemon and the herbs were a nice addition. I enjoyed this, but feeling a bit thirsty post meal....
Hungry Panda
I was told to go here for the "best bbh in Melbourne" so I did with my family. The bbh was admittedly quite good - you could definitely taste the flavour and spice (made me cough quite a bit though because of all the lemongrass) but that's where the good ended. My soup was warm, not hot and although the restaurant was only 1/4 full, the service was horribly inefficient and slow. I had almost finished my meal before most of our drinks and my family's meals came. They ordered crispy chicken and rice (over cooked and dry) and the dry egg noodles with seafood (only ok), and the coffee came in the smallest cup I've ever seen. On the way to the toilets I slipped and almost fell over as they had not bothered to mop up the giant puddle on the floor, or put a sign over it (they definitely owned one). If I was in the area I would probably come back just for the bbh, but apart from that, no redeeming qualities.
Jess Chi
The bun bo hue here is the business. My poor vegetarian boyfriend didnt fare as well with his veggie noodles.
Place is a little dirty..my tea cup had a noodle in it (wasnt my fault). I'll forgive them tho... the bbh was addictively moorish.
Carina Dalton
Had the pho.Broth was tasty but the meat stunk. Went back again thinking it was just our unlucky experience but it was worse than before. Just another over priced over rated Vietnamese restaurant in Footscray.
LittleM
Decided to try this Vietnamese place in Footscray instead of the usual pho hung vuong restaurant. Can't remember exactly what dish we ordered but it was tasty. Service was slightly slow but otherwise no problems.
Vivian
My favourite place in Melbourne to have Bbh!! My boyfriend doesn't like bun bo hue usually and enjoyed the broth here . I recommend any fans of the dish to come here and try it out
XiaoHui Teo
A bowl of warm hearty noodles soup is exactly what we need on a cold rainy day. Took us a while to get the order done as the waiter doesn't understand much English. We ordered the banh canh cua and bun rieu and they tasted delicious. Wouldn't mind coming back again for my vietnamese fix next time.

Dong Ba is one of the vietnamese restaurants in Footscray which I frequent. The one thing that I never fail to order would be the Bun Bo Hue (Spicy pho with raw sliced beef) Only 10.50 and I got the medium sized portion. I was pretty satisfied as the standard has returned. Piping hot, with generous amount of sliced beef. All you need is a hungry stomach and spoonful of that addictive lemongrass chilli into the tasty soup. Yum. I love the fact that they provide boxes of tissues for patrons like me crying after a spicy and delicious hot pho. Kudos.
Suburb Review
Coming from Sydney, Dong Ba is a Bun Bo Hue top spot which is located in both Bankstown and Cabramatta. Ive tried Bun bo hue in Springvale twice and it failed to impress so i was excited when i saw there was a Dong Ba in Melbourne. The restaurant wasn't packed when we came here for dinner but slowly filled up after 8pm. The soup was AMAZING & spicy. I REALLY ENJOYED IT, i had it with rare beef like they do it in central Vietnam (Hue and Da Nang) The broth was perfecto but the noodles itself was way too soft for my liking. For authentic bun bo hue, check out Dong Ba! 👍🏼👌🏿👅 but they forgot my blood jelly & ham!!! How could you!!! 😡😡 DU MA

I must admit I judged this book by its cover. I thought it would be a grungy place with poor food hygiene and I would leave cradling my belly. But I actually enjoyed my meal and have been back a few times. Dong Ba has the standard range of Vietnamese cuisine, not really specialising in anything in particular. I tried the Crispy skin chicken on Rice and it was really delicious. The skin on the chicken was so thin and uber crispy like peking duck. There was a lot of flavour in the rice too. The chicken dipped in the sweet soy sauce was heaven. The veggie sides were a little stale so some mark downs on that front, but Dong Ba is a good option if you want to try something else in Footscray.

Came here for a Sunday night dinner with my boyfriend - everything was OK, no complaints but nothing amazing either. Chose this place at random because both of us are indecisive people and this was one place in Footscray neither of us have come to before. Ordered prawn spring rolls for entrée (there was no pork left) - meant to have eight on the plate but only seven were there - really no big deal, but made us wonder for what was to come :PThe man and the girl serving us had trouble understanding our order and it took a few goes to get it right. I had crispy chicken on rice noodles which was quite yummy and very filling. I'm glad there was sauces on the table because I thought it was a bit under-seasoned, however with soy sauce and ginger added it was just right. I also had a coconut smoothie which was amazing :) My boyfriend had a beef pho which has said was simple but tasty, and an orange smoothie which we were both pleasantly surprised by. The atmosphere was nothing special, the décor was nice and the servce was friendly but not super efficient, maybe due to language barrier. We';; try somewhere else next time, however this was not such a bad place in the end, we left with full tummies :) Also we had fun watching the news special on the national under 21s ultimate Frisbee team which was showing on the TV :3

Best Bun Bo Hue in Footscray hands down. Broth is super tasty and for the big eaters... the large is definitely not a let down 😄

Gotten takeaway also, and it doesn't disappoint. If anything, the servings are bigger!

If you're in Footscray, definitely a place to try
Eat Like Ushi
The Vietnamese noodles person's alternative to pho is BBH. Other than trying a famous version in Hue itself and making an excellent version from Luke Nguyen, most of my BBH has been from Victoria Street's Co Do. Footscray's equivalent is supposedly Dong Ba who also advertises their specialisation in BBH.
Hello. Imnikki
Famous for their Bun Bo Hue, but their other dishes are pretty good too as we found out on our return visit. We tried the Banh Canh Cua (drop rice noodle with crab meat soup) and Banh Hoi Chao Tom (sugar cane prawn with fine rice vermicelli), the former being the better dish and the latter somewhat average. The soup was flavourful but serving size when compared with the sugar cane prawn, a bit stingy. But it worked out well since I couldn't finish the prawns so my partner dunked them into his soup. Service was typically quick and efficient as you would expect in a Vietnamese restaurant.
Vi Dang
Really good authentic Vietnamese Bun Bo Hue. I love this dish so much and Dong Ba is my go to when my aunty doesn't have any at home. However, my most recent visit was a bit of a let down because their sate chilli paste was a bit funky and didn't provide the big chilli hit for my broth. My friend's Bun Rieu was a disappointment here so I wouldn't bother ordering anything but the staple dish. Service was efficient as per usual for Vietnamese restaurants.
Joji N
Recommended for their bun bo hue.
Aside from this other dishes are pretty average.
The Food Veteran
If anyone is after decent bun bo hue i would suggest this place, food is good, customer service is shit, vibe is also shit. Although the food kinda makes up for it but im pretty sure i wouldnt wanna go there by myself to have a feed. Place is just too awkward. Needs more ambience
Snoopy
Bon bo hue chilli beef noodle, love the soup and the pork loaf, taste even better when you add more lemongrass chilli which prepared on the table, they also sell the chilli separately, so far this is the only shop I known that they made their own chilli paste.
Bon lieu sweet sour crab tomato noodle, taste better when you add more herb and leaves which they served.
The Pork spring roll just standard for me, i can smell jack fruit every time when I bite, not sure is from the frying oil or the meat inside the spring roll.
Stil Asleep
Spicy noodle soup was great ! Portion size is great for the price . Food came out after less than 5 minutes. Waiters were efficient and friendly. Quick and easy.
Rice Sistar
Other then going to St Alban for the best BBH in Melbourne . This place is my fav place for BBH as well . BBH is what Dong Ba famous of . You don't order PHO here . BBH all the way . If you walk in to the restaurant You literally see BBH on every single table .try it yourself and you will know the different :)

Had the Bun Bo Hue yesterday it was very very good!!!!!
friendly and quick service too.

Vietnamese comfort food at its finest, I consider bbh to be pho's spicier and lesser known (at least to non-viets) cousin. They've serving it up for as long as I can remember at Dong Ba and to say that they've perfected it would be a...... Lie. But fear not for they have come pretty close. Solid bbh game and one of the best in the west, definitely worth a shot.

Also a word to the uninitiated, please don't be freaked out by the contents of your bowl (blood jelly, trotters etc) it is all very very delicious.
Charlie James
Fantastic bun bo hue!!. Literally obsessed with this place.
The Hungry Ginger
The Spicy Pork Noodle Soup is clearly the most popular lunchtime menu item at Dong Ba, and the majority of the local Viet-Melburnians in the restaurant were ordering it, which is why I followed suit. I have to admit it’s fantastically delicious and nothing ventured nothing gained!
Spoonfuls Of Wanderlust
This is a photoview post (contains mostly photos only). Verdict? Dong Ba - a limited menu but what we had was good. The lemon drink was really refreshing. There was absolutely nothing wrong with their Pho but - each to their own - I still rank Pho Tam as my fave.
The Hungry Excavator
Just as we were about to pay and leave, I managed to grab a quick glimpse into the kitchen and was surprised to see that there was only one old lady and a young kitchen hand working in there! Just these two people cooking for a restaurant packed with people on a Saturday lunch rush. And putting up food that was impeccable in quality. I was genuinely impressed because I honestly feel like there's not many chefs out there who can pull it off the way they do too. Respect.
Foodto
Spicy beef noodles (Bun Bo que) here is fantastic. Authentic. Definitely 1st / 2nd on my list for this dish.
Not Shy To Be Honest
I enjoyed it. It was well priced and typical Vietnamese speedy service.

I probably won't bother going back though because there's so many other places in Footscray which are better.

Also, the parking in the Footscray area is very sparse on Saturdays.

Omfg... I came here two years later and got sml no. 8 and it was insanely good.
Dee M
Enjoyed the bun bo hue, would pass on the prawn spring rolls next time.

Best BBH.. Title says it all, can't go wrong with a good bowl of spicy beef noodle soup done right.
A usual go-to-place for a cheap and satisfying meal.
HungryMonkey
Love this place. Yummy n affordable. Goes there frequently even though i live far from footscray.

Guys, edit and update. U guys have an awesome place, but customer service here is terrible! Worst service ever guys!!! Walked out of the place today 17/7/16

Amazing place !! Cheap, fast and tasty !!

I love this place for spicy beef noodle soup. Affordable and tasty, always come back here for the same dish!

The best bun rieu. Been looking for decent bun rieu in the western suburb and so far this place makes them the best
B
I was excited to try this place as i love bun bo hue but was greatly disappointed. One of the worste bun bo hue i have ever tasted. The broth tasted like salty chicken stock with a dash of chili and lemongrass. The herbs and greens that came with the dish was extremely stingy. Instead of banana blossom shavings, herbs and bean sprouts they served a mixture of lettuce cabbage and sprouts. I also ordered a desert drink which was full of ice and not much else. There are so many great places to eat in Footscray and this is one to avoid.
Jeff B
I expected a place in Footscray with Bun Bo Hue in the name to have a great BBH, oh was I ever wrong. This was by far the worst BBH I have ever had. The broth tasted like chicken broth with a dash of salt... This was my first and last time eating here.
Tommy Han
Happy camper. I'm here for the BUN BO HUE every week or so! Its the best!.. The place is quick and easy,, never had a problem!
Julius D'urden
The new king in Pho. Hung Vuong used to be my favourite pho joint, but their poor service and long queues drove me to try somewhere else. And I'm so glad I did!

Dong Ba has fantastic service and even better food. The pho here has a much more natural taste, and the crispy chicken is the best I've had in the area. Their spicy noodle soup appears to be the most popular dish which everyone is getting and I'm certainly keen to try when I come back again and again!

Are you on Team Pho or Team Bun Bo Hue?. We are quite the Team Pho household, having tried it once many years ago and thinking that nothing could top it, so we never tried anything else....Until our visit to Dong Ba. Known for its Bun Bo Hue, i thought what better way to try something new than this place. We ordered a small bowl plus lemongrass chicken, diced beef and some chicken ribs. The service was ok although they forgot our soup and we didnt get it till i reminded them which was after our other dishes were well and truly finished. I dont know how to judge the soup as I have never tried it before, i certainly enjoyed it but no match for a bowl of pho for me. The other meals, although nice, were very small in their size (compared to places like Dinh Son Quan , Truc Giang or Tan Thanh Loi) and nothing stood out as a dish i MUST come back to try. If you are Team Bun Bo Hue this is your place - If you are Team Pho I would go somewhere else.
Minh
Been coming here for years since I was in primary school and the food didn't change when the new owners took over. I love dong ba bun bu hue and still surprised till now not many people know about it. Food wise 5/5 for giving me memories of Vietnam and 4/5 average customer service. Try this place if you enjoy your bun bo hue.
Iggy
Crab meat noodle is the best. Dong Ba doesn't sell your typical Vietnamese noodle. When I go here, I always order their crab meat noodle soup.

But don't expect good service, their staff is rude and ignorant. Also, when they are sweeping the floors, they don't care if the customers are there or not, plus they just bang the chair making loud noises.

All you can expect here is the best crab meat noodle in town.
Fatboo
It isn't a very busy place, but I've seen it around for a long time now.
Cloudcontrol
Dong Ba is a classic Vietnamese kitsch restaurant, with daggy furniture, colourful walls, and menus on the wall. There's also a printed menu, with many more options, but Ms D and I went for two of their specialities. She had the bun bo Hue.
Ms Baklover
I must have walked past Dong Ba too many times to count on my way to or from somewhere else, and there was the problem. Either the more you pass by somewhere, the more it becomes an itch you just have to scratch, or conversely, the less you notice it unti
Jeroxie
With Billy’s recommendation, Mister ordered the bun bo hue. It is also known as spicy beef. I think Billy had a kick from our bad pronunciation. It was seriously good.
