Stopped in for dinner, the eggplant masala and butter chicken were delicious! Definitely looking forward to going back for more đź‘Ś

Consistently the most amazingly delicious food every time! I originally ordered from Kitchen Samarat because they gave an extensive vegan menu but friends assured all options of dietary selections are equally as awesome! I cannot speak more highly of my favourite dish the vegan "lamb"korma I've had many a dishes all delicious but highly recommend this number. Whichever one chooses i doubt disappointment will fall on your palette! Get it it yourself!!

The restaurant is really good especially the quiet, low lighting theme. The food is tasty too with a great customer service and music. I would be giving at least 41/2 rating but deducted 1/2 rating just because the time to serve food is some what I felt took a bit more time but again if you are with your partner and would want to talk on stuff, then you wouldn’t mind it. The food is very yummy!

The worst service I have ever had. The delivery of the food was confirmed by one hour which was almost acceptable, but then it was another 30 minutes late. So, received my food after 1.30 hours of order. There was no response from restaurant for delay and then the delivery driver was like a machine who delivered food and go without any greeting and apologies. I know I can’t expect a great service but there are some manner of delivering late food. Then there comes amritsari fish which was all wrapped in a paper bag which was totally wet of oil and water. No presentation from restaurant and a bad customer service. Menulog people advice the restaurant owner don’t think they did any mistake and everything was fine from there side. It was a very funny response as I have waiting over 1.30 hrs for an delivery. Will never order again here

i love this place! so many vegan options available and always exceptional customer service. Would recommend to anyone wanting tasty Indian food at a affordable price.

Unreal!!!! Amazing vegan menu too- the Vegan Butter Chicken was incredible (full extensive menu available- wow) don’t get the hot though unless you want to be on fire Beautiful sauces, wine was great quick service and would definitely become a regular!

If I could give zero star. worst Indian food I ever tried in Melbourne. I order takeaway mixed platter of three choices and they mixed up everything in 1 container to save money I don't know why they doing this. I think they don't have any idea about customer care and what service they are getting. Totally waste of money. I personally request them try to eat yourself and decide to serve. If you are thinking you were serving at cheap price just forget about money from tomorrow no body will comes to you. Better pay more and have delicious food at other nice place.

Lovely food at a decent price given the large portion sizes. My table ordered chana masala and lamb vindaloo with naan. Both dishes were delicious. Service was very fast as we dined during the pre-lunch rush. Staff were friendly and polite. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.

My score 4.0 stars. J got takeaway from here on Friday 3rd April. Service was ok, food took a while to come out but worth the wait.Asked for all dishes to be medium hot - they were quite spicy (which we enjoyed). Def deserving of a return visit! Eggplant masala ($15) – Yummy sauce, EP held its shape and had some nicely cooked spud too (not too much, so nicely balanced).Shahi paneer ($15) – Cheese was nice, good flavours, creamy but spicy.Bhindi (okra) masala ($15) – Lovely soft okra, tasty sauce. J thought it had a touch too much fenugreek, but I really liked it.Garlic naan ($2.50) – We got 2 and they were very garlicky and very good! Up there with the best we’ve had for quite some time.

Vegan butter chicken, rogan josh and naan were all super delicious. The place is cute and I'm thankful for the air con on a hot day. Staff are lovely and service was great.

Stay away from this place only snacks are goods and curries are average or below average. Prices are high but not matching the quality for that price.

Just careful one person can’t dine in, manager said we have function tonight, 20 mins later I call them oh I want to book tables for 6 people. She goes yeh yeh come in. <br/>Come on you can’t finish a big function in 20 mins. <br/>So if you go by yourself they won’t allow you to even sit, what a greedy idiots

Order Chicken Biryani for lunch, seems chef don&#039;t understand difference between Biryani and Fried Rice. Chicken seems to be left over and service was horrible.
Manpreet Dang
Tried chicken gravy . To be frank not a good flavour . But they did provide me with tawa roti which was nice but roti was a bit dry . Butter Chicken wasn’t good need some flavour not just spice
Whalesfoodadventure
Service was absolutely horrible. Only customers in the restaurant and we waited 1 hour for our mains to come. Samosa chaat was delicious. Vegan butter chicken was really good and tasty however it was not worth waiting 1 hour for especially if there was no other customers. Lamb korma was real dry. Plain naan was good, butter naan wasnt the best they just spread all this butter on it. Also waited half an hour for mango lassi, they finally brought it out once I had asked where it was.

Attentions Vegans* this has place has a new and extensive vegan menu! Heaps of your regular curries with fake meat options, eg rogan josh and a creamy vegan butter chicken. The vegan rogan josh was probably my favourite. Definitely coming back here even though I don't live in the area! 10/10 recommend for vegans.

Always delicious food, kind and lovely staff who provide great service. Restaurant looks wonderful as well. Would recommend for some great Indian food!

An hour and a half, still no food. Tried to call and it went to answering machine. NEVER EVER order from this restaurant, you will starve. Since writing this it's ticked over to an hour and 45 minutes - FFS

Very poor. Got a butter chicken and Lamb korma. Both tasted of nothing. Butter chicken wasn't even the right colour and the korma was all curdled

The food was disappointing in both taste and quality. The restaurant was unclean and the glasses felt grimy. Overall bad value for money. Serving sizes were adequate.

I am snobby punjabi food eater. Yesterday had Amritsari Naan with channey.. Guys I can bet my life on it. Such a wonderful yum Aloo naan I have never eater before. Make sure you eat when its hot and fresh.<br/><br/>Cheers

I had never eaten this type of bad butter chicken and butter Naan. I felt like vomits. It's totally very bad. What's the hell is this? Totally money wasting.
Andrew Potter
Honestly worst Indian food I've ever had, curry reminded me of tinned food, naan was rock hard, raita was terrible just pissy yoghurt with a few chuncks of cucumber bits in it, even the rice was pretty crap
The Kats Meow
This is a great option for home delivery. The Chicken Saag is a personal favorite. The rice is always fresh and the naan is of generous sizing. Prices are a little expensive and as a result, I don't order from here as often as I would like - it is simply curry after all. <br/><br/>But out of the other options in the area, this places holds the most flavour. Oh and lookout, even the medium spice request packs a punch!

Had a home delivery meal of the chicken combo (chilli chicken a vegetable curry and a salad), chicken tickka and a garlic naan.<br/><br/>Unfortunately it wasn't very good at all.<br/>The chilli chicken dish was mostly rice and generally not very tasty, the vegetable dish had not a single vegetable in it just a few bits of tofu. The chicken tikka pieces were not to bad as with the naan.<br/><br/>The total cost was $27.50. I would not order from here again.

Been to the place 3 times so far. The food is good, I've tried the chicken and tandoori combos. Especially like the chilli chicken that's included in the chicken combo. The staff could be more friendly though and they need to have at least 1 person out at the counter at all times although they did attend to me as soon as they noticed me at the counter. The Biryani is average but the rice portion could be slightly bigger. Nothing to really complain about though. Not a bad north Indian restaurant in Footscray.
Salil Acharya
Food is pathetic. Service is slow. Never eaten such bad tasting dosa before. They took 40 min to get 2 dosas ready. No one was at the counter we were literally tempted to leave without paying.

Got home delivery from Kitchen Samrat - fresh, tasty and didn't hold back on the spices! The naan and paneer tasted fresh, although the naan was somewhat soggy. The Punjabi Paneer's a winner, but the Karahi Paneer still had whole chunks of spices in it, and crunching on whole coriander seeds and chunks of ginger is never a nice feeling.<br/>The desserts (kulfi and rasmalai) were good quality for a place that doesn't specialise in sweets, but went a bit overboard with their richness and spices.<br/>Also, the delivery guy actually came 10 minutes early, which is always appreciated.<br/>Overall, a decently priced option for Indian if you're ever in the West!

We have had delivery from Kitchen Samrat quite a few times now. It has been consistently good and is well priced. Tonight we tried the paneer pakora for the first time. Absolutely delicious. The chicken saag is tasty and the red kidney curry unexpectedly good. Give Kitchen Samrat a go. You won't regret it.

This is a great little cozy spot for a weeknight dinner, I had fond memories of this place and after an absence of over a year it didn't disappoint. There's a large selection of dishes and the staff are attentive and keen to promote their specialities.I wholly recommend the chilli chicken!!

36 Leeds Street Footscray  VIC 3011 The better half wasn't feeling great but was still keen on a spicy curry so we decided to give a takeaway from  Kitchen Samrat a try as we hadn't eaten there before. After placing an internet order and waiting the requisite 30 minutes I arrived to find a very quiet restaurant. It was another 10 minutes before the meal was ready, then it was back on the bike to get the boxes home! The mushroom masala was cooked with onion and capsicum and the flavour was a little too sweet for my preferences. We asked for the chicken saag extra spicy, and there was certainly a good amount of spicy bit in the smooth spinach sauce. The channa masala didn't look the best in it's container, the chick peas were cooked in traditional north Indian spices. The dish was a little more watery than versions we've had before but came packed with a kick. The plain naan was good without being spectacular. After discounts the bill came to $ 27.9, which is great value for 3 dishes, and despite the slightly long wait at pick up I'd certainly be happy to give a few more dishes on the menu a try...
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
The three dishes was served with jasmine rice and naan. Indian guy opposite me said the nan is baked inside like a huge ceramic oven, but pot like and it's stuck to the side. Tandoori oven I think. That's pretty cool, I like I saw it on a documentary or something once.

Rubbish. Just rubbish

Disappointment 2. Food was old, smelly, half cooked and horrible. Never ever again.

I have ordered home delivery in the past and although it always arrives later than the one hour I am promised, the food has been tasty. Tonight I ordered home delivery and after two hours of waiting I called to enquire where it was. I was told they had forgotten and that it would be there in 10 minutes. 20 minutes later my order arrived, the pakoras looked as if they may have been heated up in the microwave and the curries were very watery. No apology and I was still charged full price.<br/>Very disappointed and will be looking for a new place to order my curry.

Excellent value for money, great friendly staff, delicious food, I'LL BE BACK

Just got back home from ordering 1 takeaway chicken curry and it was not good. Couldn't even eat it. The chicken was tough, hard and crunchy spices throughout the curry that were not nice. Overall it was cheap and nasty. I guess that's why the prices are so low. Do not go here. I rang up and preordered the meal and they said to allow 20 minutes (which I did) got there and it still wasn't ready after 30 minutes. I only ordered one curry.<br/><br/>Don't waste your time or money. Much better Indian restaurant for a few dollars more.

Veg Korma. The vegie korma is the best, creamy and delicious! And the home delivery is great too. Sometimes they can be hotter than you order though, so be careful!

Haleem. This resturant has good ambience and you must try their Haleem.<br/>Its made from lamb and lentils, it is super tasty..

Thali. I ordered a vegetarian thali and was very disappointed. The amount of rice that was included was minimal and no where near enough to eat the curry with. One of the curries I got was palak paneer, which actually had NO paneer in it. <br/>Also the fact that the curries were in the same container as the rice was very disappointing.<br/>Not happy at all, and shall not be returning.
Anna Louise
Very friendly service and yummy, cheap food.

Best Indian in Melb. I used to go here all the time before I moved from Footscray. I found the service to be friendly and informative but not overly fussy (which suits me). The food is priced well and delicious with something for everyone. I had a birthday here with a group of people recently, all with different tastes and everyone raved about the food. It is the best Indian place I have come across in Melbourne.<br/><br/>The Samosa Chaat is a standout!

Just good enough to try it again.. I really wanted to like this place, but the food just wasn't good enough to make up for the bad service. <br/><br/>I probably made the mistake of trying to order for delivery on a Saturday night. We were told it'd be an hour, which is fine but it ended up being 20 minutes later, and it was cold. It was really unfortunate because it was good we'd put it in the oven for half an hour. <br/><br/>Another disappointment was the serving size; the curry (paneer with onions are capsicum in a rich tomato sauce) came in about a 200ml container and omitted a key ingredient, which sucked, the raita was smaller still and it was all stuffed into a bag the size of a child's lunchbox, all for around $40.<br/><br/>And here's all the positive stuff: The levels of spice were just right, I asked for extra hot and they nailed it. The biryani was slightly overcooked, but very flavoursome without being greasy or excessively salty. Their paneer was lovely, really soft and delicate, better than anything I've been able to find in the shops. Their naan, as another person pointed out, was a little dry and chewy, though there were a couple of peices that were soft and fluffy and delicious, too.<br/><br/>I think next time I'll go into the restaurant, because their food IS good, but obviously they aren't well enough equipped to handle deliveries and keep the quality of the food high.

Good food good service. Had the meat thali. Good quality curries - as good as any other more expensive restaurants. Will definitely be coming back. They also sell Haywood's beer $5. Excellent value

Just loved it. I have been on two occasions to this restaurant-firstly with my husband and secondly with my daughter and grandson. On both occasions staff were very friendly and food absolutely delicious. Takes a little while but oh so worth it. The Kashmiri naans are to die for and just loved the various foods that we sampled. We ate far too much and servings were very generous. Went home with very full bellies and recommendations to other family members and friends to try. One little 'complaint' - the pappadums were so thin that they shattered when we were trying to eat them-but only a very minor complaint. Would certainly recommend this palce for a hearty meal and reasonable prices.

Really good.

Not Bad. I used to be a regular customer. Over the months the quality of its food has fallen. I have the feeling that the rices (plain steamed/ saffron) are microwaved, possibly the naan breads too. Sometimes the pieces of chicken used in the curries are not of great quality. Also, I have had the chicken korma on multiple occasions. Each time it has tasted different: 1) salty, tomato-based 2) sweet, tomato-based with a good amount of crushed cashews within the sauce, and 3) Neither 1) nor 2). Never has the korma contained fruits as the menu states. However, if it's one thing I like at this place, it's samosas and samosa chaat.

Not sure yet. Need to try again. Kitchen Samrat is cheap and delivers, so it's any easy can't be bothered meal. The range on the menu is large so i will reserve judgement until i try more. The curries were good enough, and others have said very saucy. Of the 3 we tried i would recommend the Fish Makhani. So i like it for now but am not convinved just yet.
Big Mojo
Prices are cheap and delivery is quick(Kensington). Food is a bit on the oily side but is a good back up for a Friday or Saturday night when you can't be bothered cooking. They always toss in something extra like a salad or some chutney or extra rice. Breads are good too.
Alice In Wonderland
After my last experience with an Indian restaurant my partner convinced me to try Kitchen Samrat for dinner, we ordered delivery, kudos for that... We waited over an hour for the food to be delivered, the butter chicken was pretty oily and honestly, my partner said he prefers it when I cook it, from a simmer pack. If it were quick it would be good for a quick meal. I have eaten at the restaurant itself but I don't remember it being like that... They may have been having an off night, but its left me feeling that way. May try it again in another few months...... Maybe....

Had the punjabi chicken, so good!! If you can eat hot get it hot. And 2 free nann with each dish, great value.

Surprise packet. Our taste buds exploded with satisfaction the first time we ordered takeaway from here. Now we make a point of dining in and enjoying the service too.<br/><br/>This place punches well above its weight. Delicious food and at very very good price.<br/><br/>I'm originally from Perth and there are places there like Chutney Mary's and Nine Mary's that would only dream of making food this delicious and charge 4 times the price for it.<br/><br/>Go Samrat!
Brillat-Savarin
I went there for Saturday lunch. When I open the door, staff were having their lunch. It was 12:30pm nobody seems welcome us I was hesitate to get inside but I believed good reviews so I decided to stay. Complimentary soup with glass was really good. Spicy but pleasant. We ordered lunch tari it was bit watery and disappointed.
Teampicklemouse
Solid. Rogan josh was good, same with the butter chicken, but the goat curry was a bit of a let-down (indi hots goat curry will destroy all competition and will bring down delicious thunder from the mountain, into your mouth) and the naans were okay...all in all, results were favourable, but maybe smaller chunks of meat would have helped. <br/>However, they deliver, which is a big, big step in the right direction.

The best Indian food in Melbourne?. I've been to this hidden gem many times with friends, or just for a quick, healthy bite in the middle of the day. What makes this place so special is a combination of things which include:<br/><br/>1) The best (worst) of classic Bollywood playing on shaky CRT TVs, reminds me of growing up in South East London in the late 1970's/1980's. Retro Indian, what's not to love?<br/>2) The staff are amazingly friendly, and really well versed with the rage of food they offer. Although, being a Londonder, I love my curry hot, they cater to a huge range of tastes, from the more exotic Balti curries, to the run of the mill tikas and marsalas that most people are aware of.<br/>3) Take away is every bit as good as dine in. 'Nuff said.<br/>4) I can walk there in 10 minutes! Footscray rocks!

The food is always delicious and very cheap. I eat here all the time and am never disappointed.

Great food,Nice ambience. The food is really delicious and really worth a try

I've heard Kitchen Samrat's curries criticised for having too much gravy and not enough meat, but I love the fact they are really saucy.
