Isshin is a fantastic Japanese establishment. I dine here generally once a month with the same group of people who love coming here as well.
There’s a great variety to choose, from your typical takoyaki, gyoza, tempura to sushi nigiri and sashimi etc. My favourite is the beef tataki, eel nigiri, salmon tataki nigiri and grilled dory.
For $44, i would say it’s great value especially if you come with a group as so you can order heaps of different dishes to try!
Been here a few times now and service and quality of food has always been consistent.
Theres enough variety in the menu to keep you satisfied.
Sashimi is fresh and most dishes are tasty!
Dont recommend the scallop. Tasted weird to me.

Just had an excellent light lunch here. Beautifully prepared, quick, friendly and courteous service. Could not be faulted. I've paid twice as much for half the quality and its generous off-street private car park is a bonus, sadly nearly empty today. I'm saddened and surprised it's not more popular though it was Monday lunch which is not noted for a busy time. This restaurant is well worth a visit if you haven't tried it. Not 'authentic Japanese Japanese, but good authentic generous 'authentic Asian Japanese. Well worth making your own minds up and I'd be surprised if you are disappointed. Take away menu looks generous in variety and I can speak for the relatively generous and well-priced entrees we had. Did not bother with the 'all you can eat' - I'm sure it would be good but plenty of fine selection besides that. The tempura vegetables were fresh, crispy and delicious, and our other choices all well-prepared and delicious - just can't recall what we ordered now. The tea was hot and had that lovely nutty toasted rice flavour but did not look in the pot to check. Well done and thank you very much. Will definitely be coming back and probably also try the take-away though forgot to pick up a menu as we left.
I booked this place for our staff Christmas dinner. They have 2 sittings on the Friday and so we booked the 5:30 sitting. The restaurant was virtually empty which was great as our food was quick to arrive and we wasted no time in devouring it. My staff were a little wary of the raw fish element but there is such a big selection of cooked and less scary sushi options that everyone enjoyed themselves. We had a great time
At first I didn’t know this is going to be a buffet, yet looking around and people are happily treated while enjoying their meals, I decide to give it a try. The staffs are friendly, not like other buffets, they don’t push time for customers. The food is just a bit above average, not totally amazing but good enough for a buffet restaurant.
Friendly and polite staff. Food is really delicious and worth the price. I think it is brilliant to serve customers with small dishes. Steamed fish impressed me most. All desserts perfect too!

As a Japanese food lover, sometimes more is better, especially after a long day. We have tried other all you can eat places, and found they sacrifice quality for quantity. So with an open mindset, we tried Isshin with my wife and 2 children.
Price : what you expect to pay for an Adult. Slightly more then the competition but not excessively more. The price for children under 10 is fantastic. They must make a loss on them.
Ambiance: medium. Place looks like a kept family restaurant. We sat outside, but undercover and plastic sheets on exposed areas, so we weren’t cold.
Food: some of the food was better then we could get in Japan, while some was slightly flawed;
Fantastic: Beef steak, beef Tataki, udon noodles, Karage Chicken (best I’ve had of this dish).
Good : Chicken yakatori, tempura, steamed vegetables, soba salad, plum wine&chocolate moose.
Average : pork Gyoza (pastry too thick), edamame (no salt, some still attached together on a branch and not very warm), ice cream (it’s been warmed and cooled a few times).
All up we were very impressed with the quality and speed of service, and staff were all helpful.

We bought the family here after a night of sport, so the ‘As much as you can eat’ was an obvious choice.
Often when a restaurant has this type of offer the wait staff are slow or the dishes are average. But after a recent trip to japan and dining in comparable restaurants this is by far one of the best..
Service, amazing and no raised eyebrows when ordering 2 or 3 of the same dish. But the quality!!! Wow.. authentic dishes.
Highly recommend the prawn skewer, yakatori skewers, beef tataki, my daughter loved the rice and dumplings. To be honest I can’t imagine this place serving a bad dish. Will definitely be back and telling my friends about it.
We booked at the last minute and offered an outdoor table, although reluctant as it was raining it is an enclosed area and had no issues with kids..

I have been here a few times with my family and we always went for the buffet which offered most of the food in their menu, only a few of them come with extra cost. The price has gone up a little bit from $40 to $43. I think it's a bit pricey than other restaurant that i've been to ( around $30-$35), but their food can never get you wrong. They are fresh and well-prepared. Staff are nice and friendly, the food preparation was a bit long, but it's understandable as there are too many orders. It's better to come before 6pm, otherwise, it will get busy after that, which is likely to lead to longer wait.
Amazing food gets very busy i recommend booking a few days ahead for weekends and i highly recommend the all you can eat buffet . Love the fresh made food, service is great too.
Service was good, food was delicious and fresh. We went early on a Friday with our 1 year old and it was an absolute breeze. They are family friendly, particularly at this early time, providing high chairs, change facilities and a kids menu. We all loved our experience at Isshin and we will be back again soon.
We frequently come here for the Monday lunch bento special. Great value for a huge bento box with all the usual frills one expects.
Have also tried the dinner buffet, my group absolutely loved it. While on the pricey side, having menu options that are sashimi only was good. Buffet menu offering was large so we managed to eat most of what we desired.
Recommended by my friend and they provide Japanese buffet with mainly sushi and sashimi. There are different kind of salad and hot food such as skewer and tempura. The food are fresh and tasted good! That would be super good if they provide more hot food like udon or hotpot.
Also, they have around 10 in-house parking slot.
Went here for an all you can eat lunch with the Mrs and kids. I found the whole experience very pleasant. Having never done the all you can eat Japanese before, I can honestly say this is a must have if you love Japanese food - even if you don't this may just change your mind.
The whole concept of made to order in small serves to minimize waste, along with the idea of being able to order most things from the menu to try is so appealing.
Will definitely be back once I have recovered from this last session!
PS - Try the Fillet Steak with Mushroom Sauce, it is amazing!!!
Great place for our gathering, make sure u start ordering around 6pm. When the crowd arrives, you will expect the services to slow down. Their waitress and waiter seem to be slightly inexperienced but they are very polite and helpful. Love it here and will return.
Good Japanese food that's reasonably priced.
Visited Isshin on the weekend for lunch with a pretty big group of friends. Was impressed with how quickly they were able to seat us. A couple of our orders were mixed up but we were happy to try something else. Their set lunch meals are definitely worth it although I went for the tofu don myself, which didn't disappoint. The a la carte portions might be a little small for bigger eaters but it was perfect for me. Would have given a higher rating if the service was more attentive since the restaurant was far from crowded. But overall, had a happy lunch and would return if I'm around the area!

Less than $12 for an abundant lunch set with Takoyaki, sushi & sashimi, chauwan mushi, udon noodle soup and Tempura, what else can you ask for?? I wasn't expect it as good quality and tasty when I saw the menu by having 5 items in $12, will definitely come again.
Unbelievable taste and portions at great prices. The set menu has so much to offer in variety, from sashimi, sushi, to udon/rice, beef/grilled fish, assorted tempura. You will be able to have a taste of everything worth eating in the buffet. I'm expecting the buffet to be all these and more so il definitely be back for that. The only thing I would disprove of was the service. We asked for green tea countless of times yet it did not come. In the end, we had to physically get up and go to the bar to collect the teapot and cups on our own. Plus the restaurant was not overly crowded. Well, most of the time we can't get the best of both worlds. On the whole it was still a satisfying meal.
Came here for all you can eat banquet dinner with my brother.the time frame for the food to arrive on the table was reasonable. sushi is lovely and beef slices were pretty delicious.The best I had was the seafood tempura, which is crunchy and appetising .The waitress were friendly, provided good sevices. Zomato seems to have lots of mixed reviews for Isshin. I personally really like it. I have visited twice for the All You Can Eat dinner and both times were exceptional.
Staff were very attentive. As soon as we sat down, we were given menus and a jug of water. About 5 min later, staff returned asking as if we wanted to order. The dishes came out very quickly, although not at the same time. The salads usually are the quickest to come out. Staff kept returning to our table throughout the dinner to see if we wanted to order.
We loved the Squid Salad and Potato Salad. The teriyaki salmon was also a highlight. The sushi was delicious. The sushi chef was smiling the entire time over at the bar which was nice to see.
The meat inside the gyoza didn't have much flavoring, but the skin was crisp and not burnt which was good.
We loved the black sesame ice-cream. Not overly sweet and very fragrant. The green tea ice cream had barely any green tea flavour so it was a bit bland, like eating vanilla ice cream.
Overall, a very satisfying all you can dinner. Would return :D

Made a last minute booking here on a Saturday night and was able to get a table for 5. Nice little restaurant, relatively cosy for a place that fits quite a number of people. The restaurant is pretty family friendly - lots of kids/babies eating with their families which is def nice as a lot of Japanese restaurants/sushi trains aren't AS family friendly so I was pretty stoked to be able to get my sushi fix at a restaurant with a baby dining with us. The only critique I have with regards to this is, when hot soupy items or hot tea was brought to our table, it went over the baby's head and placed right in front of him where it could easily be reached. Of course everyone on the table was attentive and moved it instantly, however that was just one thing that was noticed in this family friendly restaurant.
The food was good however I'm not sure it's worth the price. Some of the food came out lukewarm, some came out over cooked. We ordered a bunch of dishes to get us going and the waiter assured us that we could order more as the night progressed which was good as I noticed the table next to us ordered almost everything and it alllll came out at once leaving them stacking plates with food on top of other plates. But hey, if it works for them, then that's cool. For us though, once our first orders came out, we put in the second order - it was a lengthy wait between us finishing the first order and the second order coming out.
No standout dishes but we did get multiple serves of the sashimi. It was cut relatively small and thinly - but the freshness was there. Overall, there were no bad dishes so to speak. I walked out feeling full but I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon purely based on the fact that I don't think it's good value for money.
Isshin is a family friendly restaurant with plenty of free on site parking. A friend recommended this place for lunch on Sunday after a group sports outing. With 10 adults and 8 kids and no reservation, this is the perfect venue. Isshin has quite good set lunch menu at very reasonable price (less than $14 for bento set). There are 5 sets available and Set B is the most popular among our group with a few ladies chose set E. Service is quite fast and the restaurant is clean. Whilst is not the best Japanese food , everyone enjoyed their meal and can't really complain much given the price and nice ambience of the restaurant.
This place has come a favourite for my partner and I. The food is great and even with the price of $42.95 per person, you do get your money's worth. The price has gone up over the last year which was understandable, but something I didn't like too much was limiting the amount of times you can order one dish, to 3 times per person. You still have plenty of options, but really with all you can eat there shouldn't be limits when you've had to spend $42.95. the staff are attentive enough and the sushi is fantastic. My favourite dishes are the beef tataki, salmon sushi, tuna sushi and the yakitori.
The food here is quite average but has a wide selection which increases its appeal. Some dishes are much better than others (especially their tempura) although service can be very slow. I went with a large group of people and the waiters were extremely clueless as to how many serves of food to bring out so that we could each have a piece. The "fish of the day" sashimi took almost an hour to arrive, only for it to be the most questionable piece of food I've ever see and obviously not fresh at all. I would probably only come again with a small group and if I felt like s variety of Japanese food, otherwise for the price and quality alone (and service) it's not worth it.
For $42 all you can eat, my friends and I love coming here for some local Japanese food with friendly staff and quick service. Parking is always really easy as well, great value for money 🙂
Table service was average. Sushi and sashimi quality was also average. The beef selection on the other hand was cooked to perfection (we had the beef tataki and the teriyaki steak). For an all-you-can eat Japanese place at an affordable price, I'd say I was pretty satisfied.
Isshin is an excellent place to eat at. Staff are very friendly and are very helpful. Their service is prompt and they always bring the food on time. It has a wide variety of foods to choose from and food is delicious.

We always drove past this place and wondered what it was like inside and what the food tasted like. Well,we finally tried it on Anzac Day, at a price of $42.95 it's all you can eat Japanese cuisine. Service was exceptional, and attentive.. the girls will promptly take your orders.
Most items are made to order,hubs enjoyed the beef tataki and steak teppanyaki.
I particularly liked the Nama shii hotate, which is mashed scallops wrapped around a quail egg topped with shiitake mushroom then deep fried in tempura batter. Unique flavour combination, and highly addictive. The rest of the courses were good etc: Takoyaki balls were nice and hot,sashimi sushi and salads were all fresh. And you can order as many as you want.
The cons: The yakitori needed a little more char on the grill and the batter on the chicken karaage wasn't too great. They had a great selection of sake, but the major con was zapping their sake in the microwave which is prolly a no no, this tends to loose its alcohol and flavour content.
Try to invest in a water bath or boil some water in a pot turn of the stove and pop the sake in for 5 minutes. Especially when your customers are paying $75 for a bottle. Or offer an ice bath to chill in preference.

Ventured to Isshin last night for dinner (praise the Lord is this the only place in Melbourne that isn't issuing a public holiday surcharge) and for $42.95 per adult its all you can eat but made freshly to order. I set about eating $42.95 worth of salmon sashimi and I'm pretty sure I was successful. They are served by 8 pieces (slivers more like but given the concept you can just keep on ordering them until you've had your fill) and were super fresh. Note food can take a little while to come so if you are confident you can eat it all it's probably best you do the bulk of your ordering upon arrival and just wait for it to appear. The place was completely booked out so it's obviously quite popular (there's also one in Lilydale too) and it offers a wide variety of food so I think you get pretty good bang for your buck if you like Japanese. One of my favourite dishes was the seafood tempura. I actually haven't had tempura batter so light (ie how it should be) since I was in Japan. It was a really delicate coating that allowed the prawns to shine and provided the perfect amount of crunch. There's nothing worse then biting into tempura and tasting 90% batter and wondering where the prawn went. The chicken skewers were good too as was the rest of the meat grilled on the teppan (I also tried the beef and the salmon). We kind of panicked when they said last orders and really over-ordered and practically rolled out of there but I don't regret it for a moment. Would definitely recommend it if you are up for a gluttonous evening

A family type restaurant with dated decor, a limited menu, but great fresh made dishes and somewhat friendly service.

It's all you can eat. And at an expected price of $42 pp. everything is made to order and some dishes take quite some to arrive, likely due to popularity. Mostly everything tasted fresh and quality, there's nothing worse than cheap, old sushi and sashimi. The tempura was crispy and delicate, the tepinyaki was juicy and smokey, and the highlight dish was the enoki mushroom wrapped in thin slice beef. We ordered 3! The drinks list is quality also. With a few great Japanese beers and sakes.
Ambience:
It's a fast paced environment where you have to be active to get the waiters attention. Ordering more food can be a challenge but not impossible!
For the price and the quality - it's a worthwhile stop if you are in the mood for gluttony that's mostly gluten free and for enough sashimi for the week.
Enjoyed the variety of dishes at Isshin. Friend had highly recommended based on this exact reason! The service was a little slow and we found it difficult to get the waiters attention at times but very much enjoyed the food and were able to try many dishes! I loved the gyoza, fish, miso soup and red bean cake!

Well I was a bit nervous (with such a large group of 11) after Larry's review - and have to disagree THANK GOODNESS it's outstanding value still ... highly recommended and food was delicious and plentiful. Still our favourite occasion restaurant - no one left disappointed or hungry.

This is yet another good Japanese all-you-can-eat restaurant. I enjoyed most dishes and I thought that the quality overall was at a more authentic Japanese standard as opposed to other Japanese all you can eats I've tried. They had a more extensive dessert menu too. Some stuff we ordered did take a while to come out (or did not come at all) and some stuff came out very quickly, so the service was standard. However their portion sizes worked differently (smaller) and I think there are too many restrictions i.e. can only order 3 of a particular dish per person.
It was a good experience though, with many dishes to try and I thought that it's really worth it for big groups, however I think they're charging a little too much for this type of sit down meal. At going beyond the $40 mark is pushing it. I may return I may not, there are other places that do this well and are cheaper too. All in all I can't say anything bad about this place. It was a good feed.
My number one favourite place to go in the area. The food is always amazing and delicious. They could work on their speed of service and can get really confusing if you go with more than one other person who want what "they ordered" and things often get combined into the one plate service and you aren't told. But its all you can eat so...just order another but. The food is stand out so I find it easy to over look this.
I had been to the Lilydale one and have now tried this one. The service and set out were much nicer, it was spacious and our waitresses were keen to constantly take our orders which was great. I loved the food, the only issue was the squid was inedibly tough and the beef teppanyaki they didn't do with cream like in Lilydale which is my favourite and it was also more than rare, almost blue which I didn't love but we ate it anyway as we didn't want to get charged. But overall a really fun night with great food!
The quality of the food might not be 100% but how can you say no to all you can eat sashimi?
One of the only japanese all you can eat places which serve all you can eat sashimi (other being China Bar which is way too expensive now, otherwise Okami japanese all you can eat doesn't offer sashimi by itself)
It can be difficult to get staff to come and keep filling your orders sometimes but the food will come.
Come and try the various things on their menu and order all you can eat as you go.
Best all you can eat Jap food. Everything here is fresh & made to order. Very good value and I have been here many times. Desserts are really awesome too! Can't wait to dine in again.

Lunch for 3 on a Friday.
Lunch menu is quite small I thought (compared to smaller Japanese places in the area), the other option is the all-you-can-eat but at $40 per person it was a bit expensive for a casual lunch with work colleagues.
I chose one of the mixed boxes (they didn't refer to them as Bento Boxes - ?), which is definitely one of the better options (taste and price wise).
My colleagues had teriyaki beef and chicken. One colleague originally requesting curry don, but we were informed they had run out of curry sauce.
But for the price of the mixed box it was definitely better value over the single dishes.
Least favourite part of the box was the sushi component, and it would be nice if you could choose which sushi roll you wanted with it.
Flavours were good otherwise and I'd be keen to try their other Bento Boxes.
Green tea was $2.70 a serve which I thought was unusual as usually it's free or only $1 ish at Japanese restaurants.
They don't do green tea matcha though, which was disappointing.
Vibe in the restaurant was nice - some strange American-Japanese fusion pop (Frozen remixes), decor was Japanesy and pleasant.
Staff were okay - lack of English from our waitress though.
Their Matcha Ice-cream are to die for!! My friends and I always come here at lunch time to pig on their All-You-Can-Eat where you can basically eat anything off the menu for more or less 37 bucks which is a pretty decent price regards to the delicious food! Will certainly come back here again and highly recommended place to eat Lovely Jap. Food 😊

Delicious high quality alacarte buffet style! Yes you order everything off the menu for as many as you can eat!!! The Salmon sashimi is so fresh, I eat many plates, beef tataki is so tasty and done right, just about every dish is amazing!! I been here many times, always forgetting to take photos because I can't wait to indulge in the food. Japanese food is generally pricey, you definitely get your money's worth here. The dessert is so good too, green tea/ black sesame ice cream is really good so is the choc mouse and the red bean cake!!! For $39 not including drinks- BARGAIN!!!

Why do SO MANY LITTLE KIDS seem to love Japanese food nowadays? On a recommendation from an 8YO GIRL, 3x Whippeteers went down to "Isshin" at lunch time today, to find out!
As we entered a Japanese version of "Let it go" from the Disney Movie "Frozen" was playing. Two families with 4 little kids were also there for lunch. Then Two 'Bogans' came in and loudly requested "FORKS" (supplied within 30seconds). Too funny!
Ordered 3x Bento boxes (Teriyaki Steak beef, grilled fish, Teriyaki chicken).
One Whip said the dishes were like 'delicacies....felt good after eating it' and 'good value for money'. That Whip also confesses to being a 'silly girl' who just loves Japanese food. (She approved this paragraph before posting these comments).
Second Whip agreed that it was good value for money.
This Whip thought it was OK. A tad small? Prefer Waya in Glen Waverley. Best part was finishing off everyone's meals!
Service was excellent. Venue clean and neat, and cool. There is lot of verandah seating that would be nice for groups, offering a little privacy.
FYI this is part of the Isshin "HOW WE DO WHAT WE DO" statement on the wall "By enjoying many smaller samples over the course of a session, your stomach feels satisfied without the guilt of feeling bloated. An enjoyable way to eat."
(Cannot comment on 'all you can eat' issue but we are not inclined to take that option after what we've read).
BUT why do so many little kids seem to like Japanese food these days? Can anyone help us? Even when we went to Switzerland, the niece gets special Japanese lunch every Saturday! LOL Why? Don't get us wrong, we think it's great, but why? Any comments would be appreciated!
