Review Sammons Teppanyaki - Frankston

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!! Absolutely amazing experience, the chef at the table cooks the food in front of you and gives you a very memorable experience. Each time is a little different bit I ended up leaving with egg on my face because I couldn't catch it in my mouth. Was such a fun night out. Highly recommend

Loved it!!! The family went for my Mum's 79th Birthday & we all had a fantastic time. The Chef & staff were great, the food amazing & the Karaoke at the table was so much fun, everyone got involved. We are still talking about how great the night was. Definitely will return.

Even though the chef was slightly late but the rest of the staff were very good at making sure that we were catered for. Once the chef came it was all smiles from beggining to end. The kids were absolutely entertained. Very family friendly, interactive staff esp the chef and the food was amazing and made to our preference. Overall great evening. Will certainly do it again without the kids this time so we can sample some of that Asahi lager.

I am a single mom of two kids, It takes a lot of effort to treat myself and the kids with a good night out. The moment I walked into the restaurant my 5 years old boy fell a sleep. So I figured I will order for him anyway because we were all hungry. Long story short . The resturant didn’t allow me to take my child’s food home even though he didn’t touch it. I also paid for something that no one enjoyed. It is really expensive for an awfully bad inconsiderate service.

Great food, excellent entertainment too. We had a fabulous chef who kept us laughing the whole night. Only reason I've not given this place five stars is there appears to be only one excellent and entertaining chef - the others on other tables were dull in comparison. While I'm sure their food was just as good, you go to a Teppanyaki restaurant for more than just what's on the plate.

Nothing spectacular, especially not for $89 a head. Meal lasted an hour because our chef had to move over to another table, so everything was rushed. The table next to us on the other hand, were still on their third course when our plates were being cleared away, despite starting at the same time. A lot of food went un-eaten as it was quite bland, and quite frankly, a more dry version of things we cook at home, and pretty underwhelming. I also asked for a glass of water 30 minutes into the meal which I'm still waiting for, despite asking for it two more times before we left. Chef was lovely, but as a whole it had a very unimpressive western feeling that didn't live up to the hype or price tag. And we ended up getting Maccas an hour later

We hosted a joint 18th. What a brilliant venue. Delicious food. Entertaining. Great chefs. Allergy aware. And so much fun singing. Highly recommend.

One of the most fun restaurant experiences ive ever had. Our two small boys, normally a massive handful in restaurants, were enthralled. And our chef Bowie was so fun and had us all in near constant giggles. The food was delicious. So fresh and tasty. Obviously not a cheap night out but worth every cent for a special occassion. Highly recommend. But ask for Bowie if you out for fun!

I went Sammons Teppanyaki around 2 months ago when I was traveling.
I'm a Teppanyaki chef in Japan and want to try Australia version.
Chef was so fuuny like comedian but foods were terrible. worse than Macdonald.
Even he's cooking is worse than my freshman.
Everything's over cook with too much oil, soy and butter.
Especially, mushroom was too salty and cook too much.
Miso soup with too much hondashi(msg)
Potato chips were black. It looks cooking many times or with dirty oil.
He said white sauce is Japanese mustard but there is no mustard like that in Japan.
That's almost mayonnaise.
Prawn was black.
Chicken was cheapest part which is chicken breast.
Beef color looks old. not fresh.
Te be better restaurant and chef, he must learn cooking.
All the menus seemed too expensive than food costs.
I write this because I wish your restaurant become better in the future
Overly, disappointed with the experience at Sammons. For what we paid, food was certainly not up to par. Consisting of: miso soup (all good!), assorted teppan veggies: 'japanese potato' (fried potato) and mushrooms. prawn and scallops were ok, although overcooked. the sauces were plain and boring- soy sauce in one and a creamy sauce in the other. no flavour what so ever. I don't even know what the appetizer was- we got some pickled ginger and something else pickled- all assumed it was to go in our miso soup so missed out there. meat was done well- but certainly overcooked with bean shoots and 'some' wilted spinach on top. felt sorry for the vegetarians- their main consisted of what looked to be pre-packaged tofu sliced up into squares as well as some veg with A LOT of thick hokkien noodles. far too many noodles for them, no true japanese flavour and they barely ate any of it because there were so many noodles- noodles were a meal in themselves. dessert was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with some red beans on top and a dessert stick. Certainly nothing fancy overall and nothing i would go back for. there was no 'theatre' as such with the chef playing with the tools or catching of rice. we attempted to catch two small pieces of egg each- none of which we got included in our meal (all other teppanyaki venues include a japanese fried rice with delicious flavours), just threw the rest down the slot in the grill. Owners were at the bar/desk and we felt that they were staring at us the whole time as if we were casing the joint. not a pleasant experience- we felt uncomfortable throughout. Attended once when they first opened and had a similar experience. Others had said from their experiences it was fun, but this certainly was not any better than our first experience. Don't waste your time or money, go to a true teppanyaki grill in the city.

Great food and decor. The front line staff were all very welcoming and attentive. Chef's are very entertaining.
Great night out for the whole family.

Great Night Out. My husband and I went there tonight to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. Cannot speak more highly of it, the place is immaculate, staff were efficient and friendly, and the food was exceptional. A big thank you to our lovely chef, not just great at the show he put on, but made us laugh also. We will definitely be going back again and again....

EXCELLENT - Highly Recommend A1+. Everything about this restaurant was FANTASTIC from start to finish. I booked online, we arrived early and were seated more a less straight away, which was great as we had tickets booked to Dave Hughs at the art centre afterwards. The waitresses were so polite and on the ball. Everything we ordered was fresh and cooked perfectly and we were highly entertained the whole time. I had the chicken & beef and my partner had the crayfish and wagyu, all cooked to PERFECTION and plenty of it. I read some of the negative reviews on this site about this restaurant and find it VERY hard to believe some of them. Don't be put off try it for yourself and make your OWN MIND up. A1+++

Very disapointed. Off to the movies and then out for dinner...well so I thought. Great movies but after we finished the movie there was a missed call stating that it was so quiet on the Saturday night that they had closed the kitchen at 8:30. Whoops our booking we had made couldn't be honored. The owner just apologised and said they are normally busy. Well that's the restaurant game.
Can't comment on the food and probably won't be able to as the Japanese cuisine I just had at sasaki around the corner was lovely as to the traditional staff with the typical traditional friendly helpful service.

Don't waste your time and money. Disappointing doesn't come close - food was terrible - scallop, chicken over-cooked by a ham so- called chief who specialises in adolescent attempts at sexist, raucously delivered "humour". The vegetation option is a joke - seems to mean no meat compensated for by tiny cubes of tofu. The only glass of wine we had was corked. I have enjoyed the teppanyaki experience in other places, but this is a never again experience - sad that this restaurant can get it so wrong. I've had much better pub food of late at a very much lower cost. If you want a raucous pub experience at champagne prices, you will relish this place.

Great dining experience. Headed out for Thai but found a park in front of Sammons Teppanyaki & decided to try it out. What a super decision! Friendly & attentive service. Delicious & well presented food with a fair dose of teppanyaki flair. Had a great time with great food & a very entertaining chef. Will definitely return.

Excellent Experiance. We chose Sammons Teppanyaki Frankston to celebrate our daughters 25 birthday and we are so glad we did
Our chef Ketut gave us a warm welcomed and it never stopped there he entertained us all night with his humor funny man his skill with the utensils was great and as a chef couldn't fault his food it was cook to perfection tasty and well presented the beautifully presented waitresses where on ball all night the atmosphere was great and the interior of the place is lovely to
I'm giving Sammons Teppanyaki 10 out of 10 and dare you to try, this restaurant will not disappoint you
Thank you to Kutut and all the staff for making our night one to remember
Judi Mick Bo-Tahlia and Paul

Poor review.. I attended with a party of 9 on Saturday night. All having the $125 per head Wagyu and Crayfish. 3 small pieces of Wagyu were cut up between all 9. Crayfish chewy and bean sprouts at the end terrible to say the least, would never go there again.

Overpriced and VERY RUDE staff - NOT KID FRIENDLY AT ALL. Not impressed at all. VERY overpriced, food was alright but for the price I expected something better. Bar staff were rude and were making rude faces behind the backs of customers, the owner/manager was incredibly rude, especially to our children (I don't recommend taking your children there as it seems to greatly inconvenience the owner). Only redeeming feature were the waitresses who were lovely. Won't be going back.

Diner from melbourne. Went there for my daughters 21st and had a great night. The place looks lovely and every staff member was super friendly. The food was great and our chef was very entertaining. Monica and Sam (owners) were very hospitable and will def be going back.

Most disappointed. Most disappointing and overpriced menu with no choices. We are regular diners at Teppanyaki restaurants and will continue to travel to the city or eastern suburbs to enjoy this cuisine rather than pay the exhorbitant prices for at best very average food served up at sammons Teppanyaki.

Very disappointed . Went last night with 2 of my kids after telling them that teppanyaki usually involves a certain amount of entertaining cooking skills displayed by the chef. There is no a la carte menu and only set menus of chicken beef seafood or vegetarian to select from . We all chose the chicken as it was the cheapest at $38 a head. The food was given to us in various stages and half the time it went cold on plate as we waited for the whole dish to be prepared. The various stages of food we received from our chef were served with none of the usual entertaining chef skills that I have experienced at other teppanyaki restaurants... Which disappointed me for my kids sake.
The food was nothing special and grossly overpriced with our total bill being $158 for 3 of us ( no alcohol ).
The decor is lovely as were the delightful waitresses. Our chef had an amusing personality but that was it !!
I won't be going back in a hurry and this is very very overpriced for a Frankston restaurant . Megumi and Kazu (Mornington ) are much better options for a lovely Japanese meal.

Accommodating, Entertaining, Friendly, Delicious and Cost Effective. Impromptu decision to have Japanese but not familiar with Frankston and spotted this venue. You need to book generally but as luck was on our side a table with two spots for hubby and I. Service was friendly and efficient. Started with a drink in the seating area whilst waiting for the late 8pm dinner sitting, seated with a great group of people who introduced themselves and befriended us, so fabulous company. The interior is modern and inviting and went with the banquet like the suggestion from the others patrons who had been at his establishment before. Hubby is allergic to shellfish and hence a slight different ordering of the food to accommodate this but was an easy transition (and excellent suggestion by the chef) amongst this fun loving group of people. Absolutely scrumptious food and yes it is a slightly different menu arrangement to other Japanese places however isn't that the whole point! We found the price to be great as some japanese restaurants can tend to be pricey and considering how much you get. We couldn't fit dessert or coffee in! Like all new venues it takes some time to develop, you've had a fine start. Thank you for a really pleasant night out for our 23rd anniversary, highly recommend and we shall definitely be back!

Very Very Disappointed!. After being very excited to be able to finally attend a dinner at Sammons Teppanyaki, how disappointed I was. Not that I'm a guru full of knowledge with the whole Teppanyaki experience, however previously attending two restaurants previously, I felt that I knew what to expect and it was not what I expected at all!

Our so called appetizer was some pickled seaweed and capsicum straight from the jar or tin, not fresh at all. The chef came out and introduced himself as Jimmy, a rather friendly and nice guy. He did some tricks flipping his spatula around and that was about all the entertainment he gave us. He started to heat up some already pre-cooked chopped potato, garlic chips and mushrooms. I'm actually not aware that the Japanese really have chopped potatoes as a dish that they would eat. We were then served prawns and scallops cooked on the grill.

The meal was a selection from vegetarian, beef, chicken, seafood or lamb. Didn't know that Japanese really ate lamb! The meat was cooked well, but as good as I could do on the bbq at home. The chef then cooked spinach with beanshoots and served.

I was now starting to get excited as the egg was coming out and thought that we would get a great chopping show from the master cook and boy was I disappointed. He literally just cooked the egg like an omelette and casually cut it up normally, throwing it to us like we were circus animals for some mild entertainment. There was no rice in the bowls to catch as with other Teppanyaki and no fried rice made with the egg. What did I pay all this money for? Your supposed to be giving us a show with your culinary skills?

Just disappointing from every aspect and with a dispute over the bill at the end really topped it off for our group. People who have never experienced Teppanyaki before, take yourselves up to Melbourne and experience a real Teppanyaki meal, this is not it.

Room for improvement but not a bad start. Very excited to have a local teppanyaki open in Frankston having tried it many times before!
The restaurant is fitted out nicely but lacks any formal greeting area and would benefit from a reception desk up front rather than at the back of the restaurant.
The menu is ok but needs to improve on value for money - i was a bit surprised to be served pre cooked potatos with a side of mushrooms.
They also need to look at getting a full a la carte menu to compliment to teppankyaki. It would be great to order a side of edamame, sashimi or any other japanese delicacy.
Drinks were ok but again needs improvement. I expected at least a small sake menu but could only be offered the house sake which was very poor standard.
As a comparison if you look at the restaurant Teppankai (not to be confused with the word Teppanyaki) in South Yarra. The food is cheaper and much higher quality.
All that being said if you take it on face value as a basic teppanyaki restaurant and you are looking for a very enjoyable night i do recommend getting a group together and trying it out.

So so so happy to find a quality tepanyaki restaurant in our very own town, easily as good as Collins street and no expensive parking and long drive. Yay ! We will be back, food was so yummy.

Disappointing - won't go back. We booked for a group of friends, we had booked in advance and we couldn't wait. The restaurant looks fantastic but the night was so disappointing, we walked in and were sat at the main bbq table, we all ordered different menus... it was expensive for what it was. Starters were dishes of potatoes, garlic chips and mushrooms... potato fried on the bbq? Very below expectation for the $125 per head we paid. (menus start at $55 ph) Food was plain and was basically a stir fry on a bbq with steamed rice. The entertainment by chefs was good though.. Issue with the flow of the night, you sit at the bbq table for the whole event, groups can't hear from one end of the table to the other... for us we won't go back.

The place to be !!. We finally got to go to Sammons Teppanyaki after weeks of trying to book in. It was definitely worth the wait. We were a group of 7, all having chosen something different to eat. The crayfish was simply superb, the staff very attentive and the chefs amazing. We all came out of there totally full. We have all been to other Teppanyaki restaurants in Melbourne and Sammons wins by far. People, do yourself a favour and check it out !! Well done Sammons Teppanyaki and thank you for making us feel very special. See you next week for another fun filled evening !!

Disappointed. So exciting to see the Sammons Teppanyaki opened in Frankston, We had the seafood menu with 2 small pieces of barramundy fish, 2 scallops, 2 prawns no fried rice but fried potatoes instead. Potatoes with Japanese food??? $56.00 per head is expensive. May be we need to look at the value of the money!

Disappointed. Tonight we were looking forward to a fun, entertaining night out. We booked a large table of friends to celebrate 3 Birthdays, one being my own. Having experienced Teppanyaki on Chapel street I was super excited to share this entertaining feast with friends whom have not had the experience. And excited to try this new local business.
Walking in the restaurant is beautiful and the staff very friendly. This looked like a promising fun filled evening. My girlfriend told our chef that we were here to celebrate 3 special birthdays.
The chef started off with some tricks flinging the utensils around whilst heating up the hot plates. He cooked the meal well and the food was fresh and tasted great but it was a huge let down on entertainment. He barely spoke to us and just cooked and served our meals. I thought he must be giving us some food and leaving his tricks and entertainment for afterwards. The Chef cooked egg and went around the table throwing it into our mouths, "yes the fun has started"....then that was it!
Highly disappointed when you all end up sitting there whilst the table next to you has an amazing chef doing heaps of tricks, entertaining the table of guests with fun, games, laughter and a special birthday message written with food.
For the price we paid for the meal you would expect more entertainment and a lot more food, all the boys were still starving and had to go on a Macca's run.
If you are looking for an experience that is fun and entertaining I would give Sammons a miss.

Very Disappointing. We were super excited to go there for 3 of our friends birthdays tonight. Having been to a few teppanyaki places before we know its usually a good night of fun.

The place looks great and service was good but the chef and the amount of food was terrible. Most of the boys were still starving afterwards and had to swing past Maccas. The chef barely said "boo" throughout the service even when we tried to have a laugh with him.

Barely worth the money paid for it and if we wanted to pay that much for food without the entertainment we would have just gone to a high class restaurant. Isn't teppanyaki meant to be about the entertainment??

Anyway they wont be seeing me back in there. I'll be going to the chapel st one next time.

James

Ask for "Katut"!!. We had a great teppanyaki experience here tonight. Our Chef was great.. Funny as a mofo! Definitely recommend Sammons to everyone; something new for the locals (if you're too young to remeber ol mongol wok!) Or great if your in town for the night. I was too rude to ask chef his name but He said it was katut, so ask for him! Even though im sure all their chefs are equally skilled katut had us fully entertained.
The food is great. Only crit.. I didnt get enough chucked at me, although the japanese egg roll saved the day!
Very friendly staff, overall quite satisfied :)
