Review Seagulls Greek Taverna - Frankston

What a find this restaurant is. Great decor, the staff are lovely and most importantly the food is super delicious. Generous serves, quality, flavourful and authentic. We chose this place on a whim. It's going to be our regular spot from here on. Honestly, if you want a great atmosphere to enjoy a fabulous dining experience, look no further. Live music starts in September. Make a booking, you won't regret it.

Food is outstanding, shame on those people who don't like it. Service amazing! Environment amazing! People who see this review, come eat, I recommend if you love meat. Also, you should always respect their hard work. Chef is doing the best he can so that the food is perfectly cooked! And they are all doing a great job as from what I heard!

We ordered from this restaurant recently and the food was amazing. However the reason for a 4 Star review is purely for the Chips that we received and when it got delivered to us they were Completely Cold and Soggy. It seemed like a rush job. The Lady that came to our door was very Polite and Helpful.

The food is incredible. The size of the dishes good, in the larger side. Staff is amazingly friendly. The menu can be found a bit pricy, but with the service, amount and quantity of food it is totally justified. Absolutely recommended.

The food was pretty good, but the service received was absolutely horrible. When I walked in, the waitress was too busy talking in a huddle with either other colleagues or friends and didn’t ackonwledgr us. I already saw the other people I was with sitting at our table, so I walked over- which she was annoyed about. Seemed like such a chore for the waitress to take our order. Took over 30 minutes to take our drink order and when she took our drink order we advised we would also like to order our meals. She got distracted and said she would be back and came back 15 minutes later to take our order with attitude. Meals finally came out after a delay, but was okay because the food was really good. Waitress did come over asking us if we wanted any more drinks, but again seemed like she had a lot of attitude and couldn’t be bothered taking our order. When it was time to pay at the end, it was such an inconvenience for her to split the bill. She wanted to split it straight down the middle, but that didn’t make it fair for those paying. We only wanted to split it two ways, but she was rolling her eyes at the thought of splitting it. I politely said I can just work out what we owe to make things easier, but she declined saying she will have to get a menu with a lot of attitude she grabbed a menu. At this point I couldn’t be bothered dealing with her, so I just worked out what was owed myself. The meals are very expensive, which you could justify because the food is nice, but you don’t have the service to back it up. Unfortunately has left a very sour taste in our mouths.

Really disappointed!!! Arrived on mother's day for a banquet with my family. Before we were even seated we were told we had to be out by 7.15 as they had taken another booking. Parking was hard to find so the rest of my family arrived at about 6.20 (6.00pm booking). We wouldn't have had enough time to enjoy our banquet due to being conscious of the time frame we had. We decided to leave and find elsewhere to enjoy our time together for mother's day. We won't ever go back, it was ridiculous what they did. And all because the owner was more concerned about making money, then making life long customers.

I really enjoyed this meal. It seems expensive, but the meal sizes are large. An entree and main was enough for two people. Great menu, and they use the best quality ingredients. I was very impressed.

OMG' What can i say, Food was AMAZING! And the service is beyond expectation, how lovely are all the waitress. and the drinks... how generous with the alcohol lol. i got so drunk with 1 drink 🤣 we will be back with bigger gangs!

Great variety of food with plenty of flavor. Friendly staff. Defiantly will go back. Keep up the great work.

Awesome, fantastic, unbelievable food. We travel from Healesville especially to indulge in the finest seafood and meat you could ever have. The atmosphere is great and the service is very professional. As busy as it gets we have never had to wait more than 15 minutes for our food. Number 1 Greek restaurant in Melbourne 👍
Michelle Hill
Haven't been there for quite some years, celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on 13th September and went for a meal there last night, was a bit disappointed with the food, needed more taste, calamari wasn't as good as it used to be, staff are friendly but do need to stop hanging around your table while your eating, possibly won't be back for some years. Will be making a trip to Melbourne to eat at stalactites Greek restaurant in future.

If I could give it a zero I would. I am a qualified chef and I would be extremely embarrassed if I served up what these imposters did from my restaurant. Operating for over 31 years? Someone has either severely lost their passion for cooking or never had any skill to begin with and have some how stayed afloat with crap food, awful portion sizes and exorbitant prices. We ordered pick up and $70 dollars later we got nothing of substance, quality or value. First we had the dips for $13.5. We would have been lucky to get a large tablespoon of each flavour (flavour is just a description to explain that there were three different dips, none of them actually contained any flavour) and they came with tortilla bread! Then we had the lamb off the spit for $25, there was literally not enough lamb for one person let alone sharing with my fiancé. It was tasteless and served up with boring basmati rice, mushy vegetables and scallop potatoes. Looked like something out of a shopping mall food court Bain Marie. We had that with their bullshit 'Village Salad' for $11 dollars. I think they have intentionally not called it a Greek salad so they could rip you off even further. Now for the pricing this one pissed me off the most. 90% of it was just lazily chopped iceberg lettuce with 4 olives some other vegetables that don't belong on a "Greek salad" and a pitiful 3 small cubes of fetta cheese! I was again deprived of the best bit. Finally we had THE worst Saganaki I've ever tasted. For some reason the thought it a good idea to coat the cheese in a soggy batter and deep fry the cheese and then have the Gaul to charge me $13.5 for each piece o this oily garbage! It's cheese! It doesn't need to be deep fried! A Saganaki should we grilled, so it can melt and crisp up and go all crunchy and gooey. This one was oily and flabby on the outside and hard and tasteless on the inside. I guessed, again using my cooking knowledge and fact that I worked at a beautiful Greek restaurant for 2 years, that the reason the deep fry it is because they're fucking lazy. It's easier in a busy service to just dip something in a watery batter and then chuck it in the deep frier instead of taking the loving and caring approach of tending to it while it develops flavour on the grill while you juggle a myriad of other thinks you need to do in a kitchen during dinner service. It's very difficult. It takes skill. It's easy to take short cuts. But if you want to run a restaurant, advertise that you cook authentic and fresh Greek food and the prices you charge, you better know how to cook. Rubbish.

Have been here a few times before and it was decent but tonight it was pretty shit. My boyfriend was served very underdone chicken (pink with multiple areas still bloody) and when we asked to speak to the chef he was extremely rude. He said that the chicken was “perfectly fine” and that he “cooks chicken like this every day”. He offered my boyfriend something else, which he didn’t want because by that point, after basically being told we were lying, we just wanted to leave. When we went to pay our bill, my boyfriend mentioned that he didn’t feel comfortable paying for his meal because it was inedible. The waitress responded with “well the chef said it was fine so there’s nothing I can do.” What happened to the customer is always right? A bit confused as to why we were offered another meal on the house, but forced to pay for an inedible one? Extremely disappointed in the service and the lack of understanding.

Love seagulls.. great food, nice staff. My wife and I regularly go there to enjoy their meat platter which has an amazing selection of lamb and chicken. Also their meatballs and scallop saganaki is amazing.
Daniel Fotakis
Come to this tavern if you want to be served food that isn’t Greek and if you want to be verbally abused by the staff and chef for your honest opinion. Don’t have a review section if you can’t handle negative feedback. Food- 0 Not of Greek food standard, only serving whatever meat they had in the kitchen, so no lamb. Customer service- 0 They didn’t tell us the lamb cutlets were on the plate, when we got the plate and questioned it they said “we didn’t have any but that’s why we put the sausages”. Waitress had no idea what she was doing, and then my partner who also wasn’t satisfied wrote a review and then we got verbally abused and told to take down the review. Asked to take away the food and then got handed a box to put our own food in the box TI MALAKIAS Greek translation FROM a Greek (What bullshit)

Had a fantastic meal, Nic's Banquet, so much food, so yummy, we had so much that couldn't fit in dessert, had to take home for later. Definitely recommend. The girls are very friendly & helpful too.
Fiona King
Absolutely delicious. Every dish we ordered was perfect. Fresh, so full of flavour and great service. Highly recommend!
Beverley Hanratty
I have just had the best saganaki and calamari south of Mykonos. The service was fabulous. We will be back
Matthew Higgins
What an amazing experience. From the moment you walk in you feel like you're in Mykonos. The fit out, themed music, authentic Greek food and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Tarsha Johnston
Every single time I go to seagulls (which is often), I am delighted at the experience. Quick service and delicious food that is well worth the money. While they can be a tad pricey, their offer of half price entrees on Monday's is great and hopefully they keep it up!
Jodie Dines
Waited 20 mins for drinks and we even had a byo bottle of wine and offered no glasses. Eventually that came to take a drink order (after they served customers that arrived after us) and brought us a wine cooler with no ice, old water and vegetable scraps in it !!! We ordered the banquet... Not good value and the food was ordinary and not even close to traditional food. The service was slow, the staff were busy watching the AFL on the Tv rather than serve the customers, the food was nothing special and the dessert was stale. No one asked if we wanted coffee or anything further and as we left I noticed quite a few half finished plates that had not been cleared where customers had obviously left before being offered desserts. When we went to pay, they didn't even bother asking "how it was" NEVER AGAIN !!! I had a meal there a while back and it was great - but not anymore. Disgraceful

Amazing authentic Greek food with such friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Great tasting quality Greek food, have been a repeat customer for years now.

This place is fantastic. Ive been coming here since i was a child and still to this day, i love it. The manager Leon and his wife are fantastic. Their menu is very extensive and everything is beautifully cooked. I would highly recommend a visit to this Frankston icon.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE
the food here is never a let down always consistent, I mainly get this delivered to home but have been to the restaurant a few times and just love it.
I usually get the meat platter which has a great variety of meats and veggies and rice, and occasionally the white bait which is so scrumptious. Great price for high quality food.
Sigrana
GREEK FOOD? Whoever cooks in this place DOES NOT HAVE THE PALEST IDEA OF WHAT GREEK CUISINE IS!!! One can definitely buy better dips in any supermarket (they are served, by the way, in minimal portions with some kind of industrial machine-cut substitute for pita). The seafood is fairly tasteless, mostly small and either overcooked or uncooked, the vegetables totally tasteless. The place is certainly overpriced and possibly suitable for customers you are used to eat low quality fast food. I honestly do not understand the positive reviews. I will definitely not recommend it and I will not come back.
Alimaude
I haven’t been here since the original owner left. I was apprehensive about the visit as the current reviews were less than promising. But I was very pleasantly surprised. The service was fantastic & the food was just as delicious. Will definitely be back to visiting regularly now I live back in the area.

New owners, was skeptical at first as we have been here for years, but surpassed expectations. Possibly even a cleaner taste than previously but still same flavours, recommend Nick’s banquet!

Overpriced and slow. The chef who is actually the manager is probably expecting this review. Went in with 3 girlfriends for a Saturday night dinner, yes it is busy, like every other restaurant on a Saturday evening. Having experience myself as front of house staff, I know that Chefs are trained to manage their time, when particular things are ready to be sent out to the table and they normally pride themselves with organisation.
My friends had their meals, 1 had finished and the other two were at least half way through by the time my patience wore short. I asked the waitress to check if it was actually coming, I could see her speaking to the chefs at the pass & you could see by their expressions they were annoyed she had come to ask and she looked INCREDIBLY uncomfortable and just stood their waiting so I went up to the pass to tell them not to worry about it, I was clearly furious. Within 2 minutes the chef came up to our table, here is me thinking he had come to apologise.. but oh boy was I wrong. I wont go into too many details about how the conversation went but came to the table with excuses, he was rude, disrespectful & raised his voice, it got to the point that I even asked him to go away.
Leaving the restaurant the meal was still on the bill so I asked the waitress to take it off & I explained what happened, she was in shock and asked to take my number in case the Chef decided to calm down and speak with me, says a lot doesnt it.

The only two things that restaurant had going for it were the trio of dips - delish bread and the waitresses that were polite and kind. Kate looked after our table & was lovely so thankyou, my piece of advice - dont let Chefs treat you that way, they aren't superior to you.

Lovely service. Very noisy and hard to chat. The food was mixed, calamari and meatballs were yum but the lamb and the seafood kebabs were so over cooked that they were dry and horrible. Disappointing for a Greek restaurant!
Laine Lee
Lively with music, clean and decent place
Food: Average for me
Staff: friendly and helpful
Price: Average.
Was hoping more variety of dips to choose from.
Greeted by a lovely waitress. Very polite and efficient. The place looks the same, always clean and bright but the food wasn’t as good as it use to be. Big serves if you get the platter for one so don’t order an entree. Also you get charged an extra percentage if you pay by credit card.
Ok but won’t go again too many other places to try.
I’ve been here a few times with numerous folk and it is excellent! The staff are all very friendly and efficient and the FOOD!! Yummmm!! The best Saganaki I’ve ever eaten. Meatballs, calamari, lamb, fish, chicken all delish! Looking forward to becoming a regular here :)
Lordmonti
Superb food. Friendly helpful staff. Don’t be fooled by facade of the premises which has a bit of a takeaway look to it. The food here that my wife and I enjoyed tonight was magic.
All our dishes I would rate highly but if I had to pick a favourite it was the baby octopus hands down.
Chargrilling gave a hint of bbq which didn’t overpower the delicate taste and the lemon dressing added a perfect acidity. 10 from 10 for this dish.
I had it as an entree but I’ll be returning soon for a main serve.
A minor criticism and the reason for dropping half a point was the aircon could do with a bit of a boost.
In fairness it had been a hot day, and although the temperature inside was not exactly sweltering, it was quite warm and my wife found that a little uncomfortable.
Mind you, she forgot the heat when she started eating.
Have another beer and call an Uber. 😎

Have dined here with friends over the years, it’s changed owners in that time. Wear summer casual attire as it is very warm in there all year around. If you love cream, cheese, tomatoes and lots of rich flavours you will love this. The banquet is good value. I would like to see more banquet choices as it has been the Same for as long as I have known it which has been quite a few years. It would be nice to have a choice of salad to go with the mains instead of only veggies. It’s often busy and the folk provide a friendly service. It’s byo wine which is always a bonus These days

Best fish I've ever had, hands down. The only thing that trumped the taste of the food was the friendliness of the staff. Best Greek in Melbourne.
Sarah Maree
What a find...We went there for dinner with a group of friends. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Very attentive to our needs. The food was sensational. Reasonable prices. Great for a night out.
Jo
Very delicious food, we weren't disappointed by a single dish! The staff were wonderful too. We will definitely be returning, can't recommend this place enough!

Seriously delicious food! Can't pick a favourite from the calamari, mixed platter and prawn saganaki. Staff were wonderful, and very comfortable restaurant. We were a group of 7 and we all can't wait to go back. Prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food. 10/10!
Cheeseburger Anyone? "Where's The Sauce"?
After being away for a few weeks, it was time to start my eating again!! Someone i know said how amazing this place was so it was a must try.

Well... if it was amazing we must of been ripped!
Serving sizes are so small for what you get.
Lamb cutlet prices are through the roof and not even nice. Side vegetables and rice that are served with mains are so small and taste bitter.
The calamari is dry and taste like flour.
The meat (gyro) is dry with absolutely no taste and and so fatty i couldnt bite into parts of it.
The saganaki .. what the hell? Is it deep fried or something? Flakey oily skin with the same sauce on it as the calamari.
Seafood platter is a tight ass plate of food! Which is also overcooked and has no seasoning.
The meat patty was dry as hell i couldnt swallow it!!
The only thing that was ok were the dips!! Not even the pita bread was nice! To doughy....
I'm really disappointed about this! It has to be some of the worst greek food I've eaten.
Even their chips were wernt great!!
I dont even think this place is run by any greeks?
Will not be returning here again.
Vana
I'm Greek so I know good Greek food and Seagulls knows how to deliver !!
I've been there twice so far and haven't left disappointed. First of all, staff are all very attentive and service is quick ! Atmosphere is quaint, friendly and welcoming. Food options are great....lots to choose from and suited for everyone's needs. Appetizers are good portions and with genuine Greek flavors to satisfy everyone! Drinks are affordable and couldn't believe they even make killer Cosmos !! Desserts are yummy as well !!
Prices are average but like I said, you won't leave disappointed! Good value !!! I will definitely be back 👍🏼

Firstly, waitress was lovely. Very accommodating to our large group at the last minute. Secondly, food was cooked nice and was tasty. But lastly, and unfortunately most importantly for our hungry families, the portions were UNBELIEVABLY small for the price. We were shocked. We are Greek and frequent Greek restaurants around Melbourne who wouldn't last a week dealing out portion sizes that small to customers. For $33 you would expect the mixed grill to feed two small people. The kitchen had run out of lamb on the spit, which happens, but then offered us 'lamb cutlets' as a replacement. Well by lamb cutlets they meant literally 1 small cutlet. We left as soon as we could and have gone elsewhere to feed the tribe. Such a disappointing experience.
Ann
Good food but the only issue is that this place is never open.
The saganaki, gyros plate and calamari is sooo good!! Seagulls isn't exactly 'cheap' but we are always happy with our meals here. The dessert place is also delicious too!
Phil
Sword fish is the bomb. Lamb is great too. The chef pays attention to everything on the dish. All vegies and rice well seasoned. I liked the trio of dips as well. Friendly staff and the food came out quickly. Seating and tables are a bit rustic if you don't mind that sort of thing otherwise you may want to dine elsewhere. For me, it wasn't really a set back. It suited the greek island theme.

So... I heard great things about this place, hence I pushed a friend to go in here with me. Sunday night, wanted something fabulous, we walk in, only one other couple in there! Was a semi nice atmosphere, dimly lit, the waitress was there for the drink offer first, house wine and beer ordered. Was just ok, we ordered grilled prawns for entree and the meat platter to share ( the meat platter for 1) now, I'm not sure about the prawns, they came on a plate, 4 whole prawns, once all the marinade was peeled off with their shells they were dry and over cooked and tasteless, not a great start! I tried to remain enthused, within minutes off the prawns being removed from the table our meat platter was presented...it looked plain and boring. We shared the food on the plater....all the meat was dry and so over cooked, I felt like what was dished up was left over from Saturday night. We watched the so called chefs laugh, joke and pack up old looking food cause there was no one in the restaurant! I started to feel very concerned that our food was a joke to them. I had the meat cutlet, was so dry and disgusting that I had to get up and find the wait staff to ask for some tadzkii to make it edible, she brought that straight away but I thought it should have just come with the meal, the rice, potato and vegetables were average at best, the meat dry and tasteless we paid $65 for our meal and it was worth $10 at best! Shoulda gone to big dog! Look at the picture below to see one make the best of an average meal! A 2 year old coulda made something more appealing! Do not eat here!!!

Got the banquet. Was fair good. Chicken skewers were nice with the lemon sauce, however the lamb souvlaki meat was quite dry and flavourless. Only downfall really, service was good.
LoveMyCake
Came here for dinner for the lamb gyros and was not disappointed. Meat had a nice charcoal taste to it (but not burnt). Good greek food in the middle of Frankston.
Sally Steele
Cheerful taverna style Greek Restaurant. Saganaki was the highlight plus the Saganaki Prawns.
Shared dips were ok and platter of seafood and meats acceptable except the lamb gyros which disappointed
Kat1986
Having previously dinned here many years ago I thought it was time to return. I and others in the party of 4 were a little disappointed with our dining experience. Although food was quick it was all lacking seasoning. And a little more pride in presenting the dishes wouldn't have gone astray. The baklava was mediocre but palatable. And staff were more interested in there phones and each other than serving the paying customers.
Voula123
Voula. Unbelievable Greek food!!!!!! Friendly, polite staff and great service. This tavern is amazing and the best kept secret. We go to Greek restaurants all over Melbourne, but Seagulls is at a different standard. It's on its own. The banquet is to die for. Such a variety of dishes cooked with sensitivity and 'meraki' (Greek pride). We travel all the way from Coburg for this experience. Highly recommend it.

Something special.. If you like greek food you will love seagulls- everything is just right.

Unfortunately the smell of grease and other cooking odours (not nice ones) lingered in our clothes - ..... Not the sort of memory I want of an eating establishment. Rushed and inferior. Sorry.
Foodie1985
Good but aircon please!. Dined a few weeks ago mid-week. Cleaned up a lot since previous owners. Food seemed fresh & quite tasty. Drinks service could have been more attentive. Sitting without water for 10 minutes isn't the best thing on a boiling hot night. Which leads to the big disappointment....No aircon on an almost 40 degree day! Moved us closer to the door instead of near the kitchen however was extremely uncomfortable. Staff were obviously hot aswell as they were sweating. I inquired to putting on the aircon & one of them said 'yer I'm not sure why it's not on'.
Apart from that all good, but would choose wisely in regards to weather on the day I return.

Great meal fast service will go again

Melbournian driving through. Very impressed. I'm not even a huge fan of Greek food but this place really turns it on. Awesome vibe and lovely staff.
Get the lamb and eggplant dip, sensational

First visit since new owners and impressed. Great service from waitress, food very nice and good value. Refurb and decor looks much better also. Definitely be back soon.

Disappointing evening. We dined here on Saturday night. Quite disappointed with the food (taste) & quantity. We felt it was expensive for what we received & not value for money. Waitresses were pleasant, but felt the ambience was a bit crowded & not overly inviting. Overall, disappointing experience.
Neville.

How can you not serve lamb spit????. I don't normally write bad reviews but this was a whole lot of bad.
Group booking, mid week may not be a wise choice.
Upon arrival advised they had already run out of lamb spit. Ummm how does a Greek restaurant run out of lamb spit, especially when they are aware of a group booking.

Only 1 serve of fish available for the night??? Again how

We asked for some vegetable to be served for the children, again they had run out. How do you run out of vegetables .

The poor young man serving us was vey flustered, tried his best but was very flustered by the group size and missed meals due to there being a lot not available from the menu. Which would have been fine if there was some communication between the staff.

Some meals were very good and tasty some others well, very disappointed.

This was my lamb souvlaki. $37 for rice and a bit of meat.

Very disappointed, and would not recommend for a group.

Terrific!. Came out for my husbands birthday and loved it! The lamb spit was amazing. Wine lovely too as well as the service. All in all a great night. We will be back!

Good service, good food, friendly atmosphere. Will be returning. The saganaki prawns were very nice but some more seasoning wouldn't have gone astray.

Enjoy. Loved this place. Just found it by chance on the internet and don't regret it. Five of us went on Fathers day and had the banquet. It was delicious and plenty of food to go around. Great friendly staff and good service. Haven't stopped telling friends about it and will definitely will be going there again. Thank you
Karina
Overpriced entrees. Nice staff. Attentive service. Lacklustre overall.

Incredible! Very satisfied customer. Place looks great now.

Fantastic local Greek food!. Absolutely delicious

I have eaten here twice now and both times have been amazing. Delicious fresh food and friendly, welcoming staff. I had the banquet last night and was not disappointed! It was amazing, just wish we could've finished it all! Definitely worth the money

Tony. Really well designed to eat with comfort and privacy.
Food chosen well presented and tasty. It is greek not ashamed of it.
Waitress friendly, polite and quick to meet our needs.
Worth a visit.

Love this place! I have been coming here since I was little with my Dad and it has never skipped a beat. Went there tonight and had a cheese saganaki for entree and then the chicken Santorini for main and they were both amazing as always! They has just recently had a well over due Renovation and it looks great! Well team Nick and team! Keep up the great work, I want to bring my children here one day so there taste bids can enjoy your amazing food! Thank you for so many years of tasty memories!

The meat carved was drawn from succulent juices
Served on platters of the purest gold.
We had the best time at seagulls
The family and I thank them very much
JJ
Lovely restaurant. Nice food, large meals. Dips really yummy. Great friendly Staff and refurbished looks really nice.
Will be going back again. Happy customer.
Bianca
Menu has a list of platters with no description of what's included. Very overpriced $15.50 for 3 dips and pitta.
Meat very tough, young staff eating while preparing food, in plain sight of customers. Won't be visiting again.
Kaz Williams
Wonderful as always! Cosy atmosphere, delicious food, Nick cooking up a storm on the Grill. White Bait for entree , Prawn Saganaki for main. Awesome. Hubby had Seafood Platter ( waitress recommended it) & was not disappointed. Just a delicious wonderful dinner.
Carly Feltham-Palmer
Food is always excellent. The banquet is the way to go for variety at a cost of $37 ish we have been patrons for over 10 years and continue to return one of the better Greek restaurants from Frankston to the city...
