Review Okami - Frankston

Adie Klein
An excellent Japanese restaurant that serves all you can eat plates. The quality of food was above average of and tasty, plus the service was fast and friendly. We booked the 7:45pm session which allowed approximately 90 minutes to cater your dishes. The cost was $37 per adult and $32 seniors price.

Always a great meal! And the staff are very good at what they do, for the pressure they are under, considering it's All-you-can-eat. Price is extremely reasonable, food is fantastic and huge range of options. Only down side is that due to its popularity, especially with large groups, and small size venue, it does get very noisy. But we'll worth a try...

At the cost of less than $40 per person, Okami offers an all-you-can-eat buffet experience of delicious Japanese food cooked fresh from when you place an order from their menu. Their sushi, tempura, meat dishes and dessert are a must have! Service was also excellent when we visited

Okami in Frankston was wonderful experience. The venue is simiply but tastefully decorated. It looked clean and well presented. We went yesterday on Valentine's Day and, we were not disappointed at all. The Asian staff is very efficient and we left them a nice tip as well. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance: it was full actually. Dishes were fresh and well presented. The only one that did not match the rest were the inexpensive Veggie Springrolls that sell in supermarkets. As for the rest, YES...we do recommend and will be back later this year. Keep the good work everyone!

Our family of 10 joined together for dinner. We enjoyed trying all the different dishes. The grandchildren enjoyed the chicken dishes with rice and vegetables. The adults liked the steak squid and the other seafood dishes. We were served quickly the food was hot and we enjoyed. Staff were lovely.

All you can eat Japanese restaurant. Just keep picking anything off the menu and they bring it to you. The food is quite good. No complaints and all you can eat ( in an hour and a half) is just the icing on the cake. My only complaint would be, they do get busy on a Friday and Saturday night and it took a little while for food to come out. As a result I started to rage order in the hope that if I ordered sheer quantity, something would come out eventually. And it did.. the last half an hour was just dish after dish coming out relentlessly and we did get quite full. Really enjoyed it though. TIP: Don’t get frustrated like I did and start rage ordering. You will get swamp with food eventually;)

We really enjoyed our dinner, food was great and unlike the previous times I have visited, there seemed to be less tables so we not so squashed in as previously. We did go to the second session 7.45pm so we didn’t have to rush to leave as the first session is 5.30pm- 7.30pm. Download the app on the website to book and you can also change numbers if you have anyone drop out or need to add people in. Lots of vegetarian option too which was great.

Nice and fresh and good amount of options for kids I cannot wait to go for all you can eat

Service was bad , food came out cold and late into Desert and a dish came out I ordered ages ago . Tempura batter is a very distinctive batter , the batter on their food was not tempura . Lacked Japanese flavours . , more Chinese . Ummm

Food was really well cooked, with fast service. Very noisy, as it was a Saturday night and busy. We will be back. Thanks team.

It was a terrible experience. We had dinner there. We asked if the drink is included, the staff said yes, and we confirmed a few times. Then, we seven people ordered some drinks. However, when we paid, we need to pay 34 dollars (which is one more person money). We are really angry. We argued with the manager, but the manager had a terribly bad attitude. She blamed that it was our problem of not asking clearly and she cannot help with this situation. She said it was the problem of communication, but all of us heard that the drinks are included (the first two pages). If the manager had a better attitude and solve our problem, we would happy to come again. Now, we would never come to this restaurant again. And it was totally the problem of the managers, thinking that we are just young people, and not willing to solve our problem. We are extremely angry about this.

This is definitely my favourite Japanese restaurant. Special menu which is “all u can eat” with a lot of delicious meals. Chicken karage, sushi platter, teriyaki steak..... will back soon with my family! Also, the staffs are friendly, patient when you ask about the menu!

Cannot understand how people here are giving bad reviews for this place, We Love it, fresh new vibe, colorful and tasty dishes. As soon as you walk in you know its good because its busy and smells great. We will be back again and again.

Only thing going for this place is that it’s “all you can eat”.

Food quality is more food court, but worse. Why? Because the only thing that’s actually made from scratch in-house is the sushi. Unfortunately the sushi fish portions are minimal and thin and it’s obvious that they’re trying to protect profit margin. Which is fine because it’s a business, but your customers will only feel cheated.

For the other food, everything was pre made from a factory and re-fried for us to eat. Yuck. Why would you go to a restaurant to eat reheated factory food. Honestly how can someone run a restaurant where majority of the food is bought frozen from a factory in.... Vietnam? Tempura prawn, takoyaki, gyoza, seaweed salad, spring rolls, chicken katsu.. list goes on.. all factory bought. When they added sauce etc, it was also stingy and minimal. Ugh.. sigh.. the miso and the chawan mushi? What a joke. Both bland and tasteless. Miso was closer to water than to miso soup. The soup was so clear, the cook obviously saved money by mixing less miso paste in the pot. Shit house.

In the end, the Chinese owners/staff are not interested in making it authentic and more interested in saving money. No reason to come here again. $80 for two including drinks isn’t actually good value when you’re served shit.

Pros: Sushi and sashimi was good, tasted fresh, rice was warm. chicken karaage was good, squid salad was great. Gyoza was tasty. The vegetables in the tempura seafood were excellent, the prawns were a bit rubbery.
Cons: No tuna sushi, only salmon. Beef carpaccio appeared to have been cut up, then frozen and left to thaw, was watery and not tasty at all. Ika spicy miso yaki was not spicy, and was rubbery, cold and tiny. Sushi & sashima platter and sushi nigiri platter were tiny. I was even asking for 2 of the platters at a time and hardly getting anything on it. I know they make platter sizes based on how big the group was, and we were only a table of 2 adults and 2 children, but the table next to us had one extra child, and their potions were huge comparatively. I ordered about 12 platters, every time they came to the table I ordered a platter, and according to the receipt I got 6. At times the staff were non existent, it's like they had periods where they hid so no orders could be taken. We have a relatively young child so like to get in and out quickly so he's not climbing the walls, but after an hour and half of slow service and hardly any food we gave up and went home still hungry.
I have been to the Wantirna one, and my experience was completely different, they were a 5, and not one part of the night disappointed. Hopefully this was just an off night for the Frankston one, but in future I'll travel the extra distance to the Wantirna restaurant and enjoy my meal.

This is by far one of my favourite restaurants! The service was 10/10, the food was incredible! I've tried many Japanese cuisine & this is the best and freshest quality I've had. Affordable & the place in general is beautiful. Will defiantly be going back many more times 😊
Urban Cocktail
Fast service on a busy Sunday night . Let down by menu pics sizes for mains a lot different and smaller, food is very foodcourt style , fried and tasteless, steak tasted old , but price wise you get what you pay for . I’ve had a lot better , kind staff , fast service that’s my 3*
Choc Brownie
The food they serve here in this restaurant is not authentic Japanese. Many dishes have miso-based sauce which is unlikely for standard Japanese dishes. Cold soba noodles had sesame-mayo dressing over them & Udon noodles where in miso soup which was very unusual.

The waitresses were friendly but they were very busy. We had a hard time getting their attention and put our orders through. We still enjoyed our food but probably won't come back.

I finally tried Okami for the first time tonight after ummibg and arghing for a long time because I have heard mixed reviews and I’m glad I did! The food is very tasty and with a big group ordering different things we were able to try the majority of the menu. This is very fresh and great value for money. Will definitely go back again.

Food is disgusting and oily. not authentic at all, tasted like heat-and-eat frozen food. Waited ages for food to come, when issues raised, service was bad. Not worth it! Never come back again

The food is very healthy and very delicious. With very little money, you can eat a lot of Japanese food and it is very convenient to park, very good!!!

$32.8 for everyone all you can eat is a great price. I always have a good experience in here with my boyfriend. In this restaurant u can eat everything u like in this menu. So exciting! I really love the takoyaki and the potato croquettes, so amazing.

I had a good night in there. I had been Caulfield OKAMI before, it is good. And this time, I found Frankston good as well. I love the pop corn chicken, egg plant salad, and steak. I will go to OKAMI again.

Yesterday was our first time in here, the waitress was very friendly and clearly to explain the menu for us. We are very happy to do the all you can eat and the food was very quick and delicious. Friendly staff and good service!! Very good value for money and everything was fantastic!!

Beyond disgusted. Does not even deserve a 1/5 for what I received tonight. First of all it was sooo noisy and hot packed full of loud families and kids , you literally could not even have a conversation with the people on your table. We didnt know that you could choose the other menu than the all you can eat menu. The all you can eat menu was like a fast food place that you get in the food court. It was greasy, full of oil and frozen food. Everything was literally disgusting. I honestly felt disgusted in here, there was people itching their ears, kids running around and one kid itching his head right on top of my brother. The tables were dirty also.I will honestly never ever come back here again. Bad service, food and atmosphere. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs, its like food court food but double the price nothing about traditional Japanese food here. Left annoyed, hot, embarrassed, greasy and hungry.

Very busy Japanese restaurant with an all you can eat ordering system.
Big variety of sushi and entrees as well as Mains.
Food is of a good to very good standard with the highlights being the prawn gyozo, the miso steak and the takoyaki.
Our food came out very quickly and there was no lag in between orders, very good considering we were a table of 9.
Would definitely go again.

The food is delicious but the portion of some dishes was a little small. Service was a bit slow but understandable as it was kind of busy. I am happy overall but the only thing I wanna suggest is that if the staff can be more aware of serving the deserts at last? Ordered matcha ice cream but it served in between main meals. The ice cream was melting while we wait for our main so we decide to eat the ice cream first then the main. Both of my friends and I were feeling unwell in the stomach after.

Visited for dinner with my partner on a very busy Saturday night. Opted for the early sitting which I’m glad we did. At times staff were tricky to get a hold of however they were run off their feet with the amount of patrons and the nature of the ordering system yet they were always friendly. We really enjoyed the variety of dishes on offer with the all you can eat menu, and everything tasted extremely fresh! Our absolute favourite dish was the miso wagyu beef - next time we go we’ll be ordering multiple plates of this slice of heaven! Some other dishes were hit and miss but overall we left very full and satisfied. Such a great price tag for the amount of food and it’s quality!

Smile: Quick, Easy, tasty and fresh for a reasonable cost.
Frown: why did they ask us for "last orders" at 7:30 pm?( EDIT: Oh didn't realise they had "sittings")
Double smile: dessert made us smile.and laugh and love again! Highly recommend leaving space in your sushi tummy for black sesame ice cream yeah

quite a decent all you can eat japanese buffet. doesn't have a lot of variety for sushi and sashimi but the salmon sashimi are fresh. All the food are surprisingly nice especially the miso steak. beef was nice, tender and flavorful. It can get quite loud and noisy inside. be sure to get there on time as it can get quite busy. chawanmushi does taste abit bland. tempura batter are a little thick but is nicely fried and crispy. Matcha ice cream is one of the best I've tried and the daifuku is yummy. unfortunately only 1 per person. service was quick and friendly and the food came out pretty fast too.

Second time I have been here and what a let down. The service was terrible. The food is good, but after taking our order for a few entree’s we didn’t get any service again after that. At home now to have my main meal.

Disappointed that online booking didn’t advise their Liquor Licence hasn’t been issued yet, though you can BYO.
The service was very slow. Either not enough staff or they just haven’t got it together yet. We experienced a quite lengthy wait times between dishes. For 2 people I advise you order 4-6 dishes at once as serves are small, particularly if you are sharing. The food was fresh and mostly tasty though not a highlight of Japanese cuisine. I probably won’t return....
Finally an awesome Japanese food place in the Frankston area! The inside is very clean and well thought out. The all you can eat is great value and all of the food was very yum! You best book online before going as it’s always fully booked. Only downfall is i wish they offered ramen! But we can’t have everything can we!

Had a wonderful dinner with my husband, service was great and the food was amazing. The restaurant was extremely busy, however staff were always asking if we wanted to order more food!.. great value we will be back

Went here last Sunday, they were super busy. But I was quite impressed with the quality for it being all you can eat. Everything was tasty and fresh. Took a bit of time in between to order extra stuff but I’d definitely go back. sushi/sashimi was really good. Tempura was nice, as well as the agedashi tofu. I’d suggest order what you want off the all you can eat as an individual rather than as a group because the portions were a little small. Fun place to try.

Food is divine, service is a little uncoordinated but only new and need to iron out the errors. Staff very friendly but so busy can not have time to be friendly.
Extremely noisy and could not hear each other at the table, perhaps some Screen dividers might help with the noise factor

We were so excited to hear there was a new Japanese Restaurant in Frankston and couldn't wait to try it. Sadly it just didn't live up to our enthusiasm. A lot seems to be lost in translation! We booked for 4 adults and 3 children, got there and they had it down for 1 adult and 3 children! It was so loud and we couldn't get any one to take our order. I finally had to leave the table and ask for help. When the menus arrived our waitress couldn't understand us and there was no explanation of how the whole all you can eat worked. We were given a drinks menu but when we went to order were told that they didn't have a liquor license yet. A few of the dishes we ordered never arrived. Much of the food was lovely but sadly the rest was very disappointing. I don't think we would bother going back

Placed a pick up order got told it would take 40mins till it would be ready. Got there and the place was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think. The lady who served me was very nice although it took time because there was so many people. The food was soggy and had no flavour to it.

We visited Okami on the weekend as a party of three. The staff were helpful in explaining our dining options and taking our initial orders. The freshly cooked food was delivered about 5 mins after we ordered and was delicious! We were cautious about over ordering as we wanted to minimise waste so we placed multiple orders throughout our 2 hour sitting. The restaurant became incredibly busy which slowed our ordering opportunities down a little but we managed to order and eat everything we chose to. Okami have two allocated sitting times and I highly recommend booking as walk ins were turned away due to the restaurant being at capacity. We will certainly return at the next opportunity to enjoy more of the delicious cuisine Okami have on offer!

Don't go with a table of more then 2, service is terrible. We are with a table of 8 and they bring out dishes with 6 pieces, 15 min apart every dish, don't come on an empty stomach unless you have 3 hours to kill.

Looks completely different inside it outside. Neat, clean, simple and spacious. Amazing value Japanese food. Fresh, quick service and well presented. The kids loved it too.
