Review Sofia's Family Restaurant - Frankston

Hayden McLachlan
Quick service and a generous plate. The staff member who served us was friendly and considerate. But I reckon playing light non lyric music (perhaps jazz or piano) would create a warmer and more welcoming atmosphere, especially in the heated outside area.

Nice food. Loved the Margherita Pizza though it had a lot of cheese in it. Kids enjoyed the Kids meals too. Some items were a bit too salty.

Found this place while visiting the area and walking along the foreshore. It was a bitterly cold winter evening. The staff welcomed me warmly and were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the veal scaloppini and a glass of wine. It wasn’t fine dinning and it was a huge serve, but it was delicious and value for money. Staff made me feel really welcome and food was good, can easily recommend.

Mothers day luncheon. Was pleasing that it WASN'T a set menu and we could box up and take home any food we couldn't finish. Very good staff, super delicious food.

Very hit and miss today. I went with my boys for a Thursday night dinner. 3 meals ordered. Small pizza was great. Cabanaro Fettuccine tasted great expect that we found a large piece of shrimp in the dish. The meat grill platter was terrible. Porterhouse steak overcooked and bland. Lamb shank dry and bland. Pork ribs overcooked and bland. Checken skewers overcooked. The bacon and chips were nice. The garlic butter sauce was not a sauce but slices of garlic butter. If the food was hit enough I might have been able to melt it on the steak but no luck. I mentioned all of this to the server who did mention the shrimp to another worker who responded with "ok". No manager to speak of or any response to my feedback. Very poor quality of food and managerial service. I won't be back, not for a while unless I stay hearing that they are improving. They seam to rely on their location being on the beechfront.

Update 13/6/22: We ordered 2x large The Lot pizzas, and it was still just as good as when I visited two years ago. Generous toppings; very fresh, flavoursome ingredients; piping hot. I particularly enjoyed the crispy onions, olives, and hot salami. Lovely, friendly, welcome service. June 2020: Reading the reviews to this place, I was very skeptical about visiting. However, it seems they have been either subject to grave exaggeration or unrealistically high expectations. I ordered a Small "The Lot" pizza, and was very satisfied with it – served straight from the oven, with layers of well flavoured toppings. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the restaurant was clean and well lit. The beach surroundings were a bonus.

A fairly nice coffee from a place that would be extremny busy in summer. Due to the location on the beach and the casual vibe I found the sign at the door "no bare feet" and "no bathers" to be slighly ironic. I imagine that in summer there would be a large numbers of customers not compliant with the sign

Great cafe. Lovely food and the staff are really good. Ordered a large bbq chicken pizza, big size serving enough for 2 ppl.

Don't understand why the ratings for this place is so low. The service was impeccable, we were served by Josh and he was delightful. We ordered the Pollo Funghi Penne and the Marinated Ribs, which came out extremely quickly. The chicken and mushroom pasta was decent, good flavour but nothing too special. But the beef ribs were sensational - the meat was so soft and completely fell off the bone. We also ordered the ice cream tower, which was nice to eat as well. The only downside is it was a little expensive, but if you order the right dishes I can see how it can be worth it. Great view of the beach too.

Bad customer service & Very expensive to eat in but, There's are basic Fish & Chips shop next door, that's right it sells basic food, not healthy choice, what ever is up on the menu only. So no Grilled anything fried only, not right a fish & Chips shop next to the ocean that only sells basic food, what a joke.

Came in for a late lunch and we had the pasta for two and a bbq pizza. The portions of the pasta has dropped tremendously and it is a lot smaller than before. <br/><br/>The flavours were still good but you might need to order a few more item given the smaller size.

Not sure why is the review so bad in Zomato.... but we had an awesome lunch here, pizza , pasta and seafood platter were scrumptious with generous portion!! Highly recommended :)

Second time to Sofia and time really slipped away. We found the restaurant by old memories and it was beyond average! The steak was a highlight of tonight and seafood tower is prefect for sharing.<br/><br/>Great location and affordable price, will come back when stop by at Frankston. 👍👍

Very basic quality cafe style food. Be ready to be disappointed! Portions are big, lack flavour and they compromise on quality. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters, wedges, the vegan pasta and garlic prawns. Not worth $66 and didn’t stay for dessert. When we told the guy while paying for our bill he was kind enough to tell us that they would have offered something else if we mentioned that we didn’t like the food but my husband didn’t want to make a big deal.

Sofia’s is a place to go if you have a big appetite because they serve a big portion of food per plate. There is barley any flavour in the risotto and the pizzas are stuffed with vegetables and meat and it tastes really well not good. Only come if you want a flavourless meal that is huge

Very nice location. It’s got the view of the Frankston Pier. It’s a nice place to bring your family and friends for lunch or dinner. Especially if the weather is nice, you have the option to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The only problem is, there are birds that flies around the tables outside which can be annoying at times. So if that’s the case you might want to sit inside. The food is nice too. The servings are very generous, great value for money. The staff are also very friendly. What I also like about this place is that they have an ice cream shop at the front. You can buy ice cream after you have lunch or dinner, then walk around the Frankston Pier.

We absolutely love this place. The food is perfection! You will not get a better serve or quality of seafood anywhere else. They are so well priced for what they offer! We are now regulars! Coffee is perfection too!

Hi guys, can you please wash your salad leaves properly. Grinding some kind of dirt/sand from your Greek salad leaves doesn’t make it more authentically Greek!
Jennifer
Portions are huge and food portions are perfect if you have a huge appetite. Pricing also is pretty good. Food is quite average and there’s nothing special. When I went there for the first time last week, it was for lunch on a sunny day and it wasn’t that busy. However, they took quite some time to bring our food out. Staff also needs to be more friendly. Also if you’re going on a sunny day, prepare to hunt around the car park for at least 15 mins (as it’s located right next to the beach). Not a bad place to dine though

I have been to the Sofia restaurant in Camberwell and Burwood East before. My family always leaving the restaurant very well-fed and satisfied every time.<br/>However, I had to say the Marinara pasta I ordered during a recent visit at the Frankston venue was bland. The prawn and scallops were lacking flavour. The view at the deck is really good, overlooking the beach. The experience would be much more enjoyable if the food quality improves, aligning with the other Sofia establishment.<br/>I do recommend the icecream they sell at the kiosk. Each scoop was almost matching the size of my fist! I had the coconut and mango flavor that was perfect for the beach theme...

Located at beach front, Sofias lives to its expectations of spacious family dining restaurant, plenty of indoor outdoor areas. Ambience is average but seaviews outside are good. Food serves are plenty, service is average. Garlic cheese pizza was good, Thumbs down for Nachos.<br/><br/>Revisit: Maybe

Ive been to other Sofia restaurants in Melbourne but this Sofia restaurant in Frankstone was terrible. Ordered Main size of Galic prawn and Entry size of Marinara pizza today. Galic prawn ($28)- Prawns were small and only few pieces+ little bit of rice and cream sauce. Compared to other Sofia where they serves prawns+rice+cream sauce and veggies, it was low quality. Ordered small size of Marinara pizza ($15) but there were only anchovies and olives on marinara pizza(small). On their menu, marinara pizza was described as they put prawns , anchovies and olives on the pizza but, we couldnt find any prawns on our pizza. Disappointed.
Caruso0700
Have been a regular once a week but the last time they burned the pizza and took forever to bring it out everyone else was eating except for my little one waiting for pizza which I’m surprised wasn’t served faster than the Parmas and steak anyway he was so hungry he ate it burned and staff offered to make another one but he was so hungry he wasn’t willing to wait longer as thry were tAking that away out of courtesy they should’ve taken it off bill but didn’t!!very disappointed. Haven’t been back since
Diamond_Weapon123
I honestly just had the mixed gelato/ice cream from here all the time, I believe that it's actually really good and well worth the $12. the scene is awesome; like if you ever visit Frankston - you should come to this place.
Savvy And Lifestyle
The food here is quite bland and the flavours are lacking, quite a worry because I've been here a few times and been dissatisfied each time. I always order my generic margarita pizza but it's nothing fantastic or to rave on about. The setting and the location is beautiful right on the beach with some multi million dollar views.

First restaurant I went to eat out when I first arrived in Melbourne. I was amazed with the humongous serving. Food is average. I had better. Just a plain restaurant in a great setting with the view of the beach. Had to takeaway what we’ve ordered because its servings are really huge.
YesNoMelbourne
Yes/no? Yes <br/><br/>First of all <br/>Let’s start off by saying the location was amazing <br/>Right on the beach with a nice view <br/><br/>The food came in big portion sizes but overall lacked flavour<br/>Tasted generic <br/><br/>But the price and the size, it’s not bad overall
Pol Hamilton
Only recommend for those with a large appetites.<br/>huge portions. prawns a amazing. be prepared to take leftovers home if ordering mains.<br/>great view of the ocean if dining alfresco.<br/>very busy so dont expect quick service unless you are prepared to order at front desk.
CJ Dee
Huge serves of food at decent prices for the size but the food is pretty average in terms of taste and presentation. The staff were as attentive and friendly as they needed to be but didn't really go past that. Cutlery is left to sit in a bucket on the tables instead of refreshed after every group of guests as is the norm in most restaurants. Being on the foreshore and next to the pier, I found the view to be quite unimpressive from indoors. Unsure if this would be much improved by dining outdoors.

Visit to frankston beach is incomplete without visit to sofia. Must try their ice creams. Love the portion and taste of potato wedges and nachos. <br/>

I’m not fond of giving bad reviews, but sometimes you really have to be straight to the point to help with the improvement. The restaurant has a good location. Potentially, this can have a good ambiance and pleasant dining experience. But from experience although serving was large, food was mediocre. I would rather have just enough calamari that’s was fresh and cook right, but it was like it came from frozen pack and deep fried too long. Overall this place isn’t really that bad, but I was expecting a bit too much I guess. Specially when take an overseas visitor and you brag about Melbourne’s good food. This place needs listen to the previous reviews and try to do some improvements.

My friend and I visited sofia's in Frankston for lunch after looking at their website. They were offering a $12 steak special. The manager to us that there was a mistake on their website and they would not honour this. We were made to feel like it was our fault. All companies should honour their specials. This is false advertising. I will not be eating there again.
Julia.eats
Right on the coast of Frankston beach, this Sofia’s rises above the rest. It’s portions are more generous, however the wait staff are a little more frenzied and perhaps not as polite. <br/>Ordered the pesto pasta, marinara risotto and the fritto misto.
MrMena
Food was ok but nothing special but when you are sitting and facing the beach it just makes the experience a tad better. Big servings and well priced. Service was average though

Sunday night meal on the deck with a companion. Beautiful hot night and it was busy! I had a greek salad and my companion a calamari salad. It was fresh, a good serving size and really tasty. The waiters seemed distracted or uninterested (perhaps because it was hot and busy) and despite the amazing location I was disappointed with the ambiance. This may have been in part due to the other clientele. Price could be better - $55 for two without drinks.<br/><br/>Score out of 5:<br/>Food: 0.6<br/>Drink: 0.6<br/>Ambiance: 0.2<br/>Service: 0.3<br/>Price: 0.4<br/><br/>2.1 rounds down to 2.<br/>

Sofia's is a family style italian restaurant. Although the food is rather average, it's always a safe choice and a great venue for large groups. Food is ok but would expect better quality for the price. Serving sizes are not bad. Enjoyed the view from the restaurant however and the decor was quite cute. Service was quite efficient and friendly.

I came for a family's birthday lunch. We ordered lots of drinks and food. We were ignored for the first 20 minutes and not once asked if we wanted any drinks/food while we wait. I had to track down a waitress to take our order. Although, she was very polite and took our table's very large order. I recieved my soy latte which was not a soy latte, my sister ordered a vanilla soy latte which was not soy also and felt that the 'barista' chucked half of the syrup in the glass instead of a small pump for flavour. I went to the toliet which stunk of urine and to make it worse it was down steep stairs which CLEARLY isn't easy for people in wheelchairs or older people to get to. I ordered the Spaghetti Napolitana in main which was HUGE but tasted like they went to coles bought $1 packets of spaghetti and $2 bottled pasta sauce which i could've bought and made myself, probably feeding two people. It came to $15 which is fairly cheap for how much you get but like i said it was poor of taste and presentation. It's like Sofia's don't want their customers to come back. We weren't greeting warmly and didn't get a "Goodbye, have a good day" nothing. I've worked in hospitality since i was 16 and if i gave this poor of customer service i would have been fired long ago. Clearly needs to revamp their place as it's old, re-train their team and hire a professional manager. If it wasn't for their huge meals and oceanic views, this place would be out of business very quickly.

All the times I have visited the food has been good there's been no real problem. They have the restaurant bit and a take away fish and chips place with ice cream. Good for big groups, the price is average. The staff are nice but when you go up to pay they don't seem to happy about split bill.
Good Food Good Mood
I had been to see a friends art exhibition locally and decided we should grab some lunch before driving home. Sofia's was suggested because of the nice water views and sizeable portions. I had the penne pesto which was very enjoyable and super super cheap at $15 for a main. The fare is casual Italian with a menu akin to La Porchetta, nothing fancy but definitely satisfying

So, where do I start? <br/>Have been here a couple of times and I think we won't bother anymore. Great location by the water. That's it. <br/>After being seated we waited 30 minutes to even order a drink. The couple next to us had arrived well and truly after us and had finished half their meal before the surliest waiter on the planet asked if we wanted anything? Wow.. <br/>Being told for the third time (after two other visits) they're out of Sapporo beer and that it's hard to get is interesting. You can get it anywhere else.. <br/>The meal for the others was good. My steak was barely warm. The steamed vegetables were cold. <br/>The group of quiet Chinese on the opposite table were given a frosty treatment when they asked the waiter if he had a knife to cut their pizza properly as they couldn't separate it at all.. <br/>Dessert was disappointing. Cinnamon overdone in an apple crumble that you could find better quality at a 7-11. <br/>If they need a shake up to improve their table service and food delivery then so be it. This place has the potential to be fantastic and other businesses would love to have their seaside backdrop. <br/>Wake up team! <br/>

Fried Fritto Misto is a must everytime I go to Sofia😋 The American pizza and the chicken risotto were fine. Didn't order Carbonara spaghetti this time but it is certainly another reason to go again!

I been here several times with my girlfriend which lives around the corner. The food is mainstream and also offers large sizes which is why I love it

Terrible service. I went there with my family for lunch. Ordered a chai latte, the waitress brought out a mug and told us its chai latte. But it was actually a weak latte. My friend who supposed to have a weak latte ended up having a strong latte, me with the chai latte having a weak latte and my brother in law ordered a strong latte having a chai latte which brought out last. It's okay, people make mistake but the thing is when I complained and wanted to get my chai latte, they just passed the wrongly brought out weak latte around 3 waitresses and to their manager. It's just so simple to solve, make a new chai latte and bring it out.<br/><br/>When I talked to them, they made it like it's our fault that we didn't understand what they said. We are Asian but yeah we do know English, chai latte and weak latte sound totally different. We didn't take it wrong, they called it out wrong.

Went down for a quiet birthday dinner with the parents. As a member of the frequent diner club you get a $20 voucher in a email to use around your birthday as well as earning loyalty points every time you dine and they swipe your card. I had a frangelico on ice, could have done with a little less ice as it diluted the flavour a bit. Mum had a lovely glass of local sav blanc and dad just stuck with his limoncello! Within minutes of ordering food it was on the table as usual. I had the gnocchi amatriciana (minus mushrooms due to allergy, they are more than happy to oblige) entrée size, which is huge and a side of their onion rings which are in tempura batter and the best around! So light and crispy. Mum and dad both had the seafood baked avocado and both ordered a $6 side salad, not realizing that the side salad could have fed all of us as a side. As usual the seafood in their dish was fresh and delicious. We decided to go thirds in the huuuuuge crème brûlée as not one of us could have managed it on our own and the crunch was perfect and the custard underneath was smooth, sweet and not at all egg-y like some I've tried! <br/>I had so much left over gnocchi they gladly gave me a takeaway container and I enjoyed it the next day, but you must know how to store and reheat properly!!!! <br/>Overall Sofia Frankston is amazing value for money, fast service and because of their location their seafood is always so fresh. I have been to a few other Sofia franchise restaurants and left without eating much or at all! <br/>We will be back if we are in frankston and hungry as they always deliver excellence!

Not great...! I have been a few times over the past 8+ years.... it's terrible, large tasteless meals thrown together with no passion. Absolute waste of the location....
Evica
Nice food and the portions are crazy big (trust me, an "entree" size is twice as big as a regular in other restaurants). Very friendly stuff. The gnocchi are different from the ones I know from Europe but were tasty as well. I really enjoyed my pasta with seafood, the amount of shripms was really generous. The place itself is very nice, best when you're sitting on the terrace. Bear in mind that this is not classic Italian food... more like American-Australian-Italian version which I was preparred for. If you're looking for a classic, authentic Italian, that's not the place to go.

Arrived at 4pm, not particularly busy. Shown to a table and then ignored. Staff cleared tables around us, served other customers. Perhaps we were invisible? At no point were we in any danger of being allowed to order food. After 10 minutes we got up and left. Hospitality at its absolute worst.

the location is awesome the food was great service was great too. overall a family place. A very busy restaurant but service was on time. will go back again when I am there

My family and I really enjoyed our meal here tonight. My mother and I ordered the pizzas which had generous toppings with a well cooked crispy base. My sister enjoyed her prawns which can be a hit miss affair at other restaurants. But the biggest indication that Sofias Frankston is a solid restaurant was the fact that my Father really liked his Gnocci pasta, given the fact that he usually complains at least once at other places. Service when we were at the table was great but my only gripe would have to be the wait front of house to get a table. Other than that we thought this place was great.
Larry Ma
(Can the management confirm this place has been changed hands recently? Just heard from friends. 2018 Feb)<br/><br/>Never fails me since 2002. Alway amazing food and service, regardless the place was busy or slow.<br/><br/>Recently been there to try the seafood and steak/ribs and they were beyond my expectations. Well done people.

28 January 2017: was here for the first time. I asked the waiter how long it would take for them to serve barramandi to me. "7 mins" he said although place was quite full. I ordered and sat down on a table he pointed to me. Two other waiters attended to me asking if I had been served. Service was great. Around 7 mins later, I got my pan fried barramundi. It was great. Portions were substantial. To pay, I had to queue at the cash till. I asked if they had a tip box. Sure, cashier told me. You can throw your cash into that bottle of water (after all, Frankston is famous for their "water" (sea water). Would come again if I were in the vicinity. I live 1 hr away.

I have visited 3 times now. The service is TERRIBLE. Each time we have had to track down a waiter to order our meals after waiting and looking around for a good 15 mins. After food arrived we were not given any cutlery and have had to ask for some!! This has happened to me each visit, meanwhile I am eating with my hands until someone brings me a fork! Disappointing.

The best bit about this place is the view. The food is barely edible- supermarket food warmed up basically. Although the fish of the day looked quite good. Other Sofia restaurants do a much better job.
Meagan Sewell
Had lunch here today with my dad. We had the calamari twisters and the lemon pepper calamari salad. Both were absolutely delicious!! Setting is great, right on the water. Staff were a bit of a mixed bag of extremely good and obviously brand new, but overall pleasant. The only thing i didn't like was the kitchen ringing the bell very loudly, constantly, throughout the whole of lunch. I work in a restaurant and the sound of the bell was extremely stressful for me. I'm sure it didn't bother anyone else too much, but it did take away from my experience a fair bit. Overall we had a great lunch and would definitely recommend.
Matilda Jeffrey
Not the nicest restaurant but the staff is ok. Nice sea side view but not the best food. Food comes pretty quickly but probably wouldn't go there for quality just if it was near by. Good location if you were just at the beach and getting some pizza or something.
Ann
Do yourself a favour and give this one a miss. The food is revolting, I've tried pastas here and pizzas and all have been rubbish. The atmosphere is not by any stretch romantic here and the staff are quite rude. Overall, this place has absolutely nothing going for itself- will never return.
Sarah Jane Muus
<br/>Horrible place!!!! After being at the beach all day we decided to have a meal here, although my boyfriend didn't have any shoes on him we were still allowed in. We ordered drinks and food and everything was good, until all of a sudden we were told we had to leave because he wasn't wearing shoes! After a bit of arguing we were allowed to stay and drink our drinks as we weren't allowed to take alcohol off the premises. So in the time we took to drink our drinks we could have also eaten our food, but instead they lost we left and only paid for the drinks. Considering the restaurant is right on the beach, you'd think they'd be a little lenient especially after we'd already been let in and we'd ordered!!!
Jane Doe
Had an excellent meal at their $12 steak Thursdays. <br/>Service staff were run off their feet and they made the best effort they could to stay on top of this packed service. <br/>They were lovely and very apologetic about the wait, they've all made a fantastic effort. <br/>The negative I have to say is that never have I seen a CHEF speak worse to the front of house and chefs are notoriously bad. <br/>He is a rude prick. Your service staff shouldn't have to deal with him. <br/>
Suzanne Kehl
Nice place with great views, we had garlic prawns with nice which was yum! Chairs weren't overly comfortable but sitting outside with the views were worth it, will be back!

Great cheap eat with HUGE meals. Iv been here a couple of times and if you want a full stomach at a reasonable price this is the place for you!
Tia K
We went yesterday for dinner, family of 7. The waiter was very attentive and patient with all the children especially. We will be back! We ordered gnocchi, lasagne and spaghetti. Very big serves and all delicious! Also the big bowl of gelato was a great end to the meal.
Jessica Lam
The best pizza I've had so far and definitely a value for money! The perfect weather to have this dish is a warm summer evening, but who's to say that you can't order this in Winter too!
Hai Nguyen
The food is huge when me and my friend cannot finish it all when we just ordered 2 main course. I have admit that the ingredients of dish is really fresh and premium, however, the taste is a bit unbalance that I have to use plenty of salt. The customer servise was good.
Eliza23
Lot of hate for poor Sofia... I personally don't mind their pizzas. For amount of money you will spend the pizza's are good value. Are they the best pizzas you will ever eat...probably not. But not nearly as bad as some the reviews suggest.
Mrs Lavender
Came in a group of 6, had a large pasta carbonara, Large Mariana pizza and a seafood platter. Super full & yum . Friendly service. Great food :)

You can't go wrong with such a low priced restaurant located right on the beach! We only ordered affogatos and a large bruschetta for $13 which was insanely huge, and delicious and garlic-y! Our waitress was lovely and we were served quickly on a busy Saturday. It's certainly not fine dining but I can't fault it for the price.
Who Loves Good Food
Reviews of Sofia weren't great but because of it's great location, we still gave it a try on a busy Sunday (for lunch) nonetheless, with low expectations. <br/>The restaurant was almost full so we didn't get a table outside but the nice waiter gave us a table indoor which still had a view. The waitress who took our order warned us of big portions & indeed servings are huge! Service was prompt & we didn't wait long for our food which came out around the same time.<br/>Spinach, ricotta & sundries tomatoes pizza - crispy crust with nice flavours that worked well together, yum!<br/>Lemon batter fish & chips - fish was good, chips were not consistent. <br/>Fish of the day (barramundi) - fish was a tad under seasoned, there was a bone which is big no no for me, loads of vegetables (there was already steamed vegetables & yet there was still a bowl of salad at the side).<br/>Mushroom & chicken risotto - best of the four mains!<br/>Iced chocolate was a hit with the kiddos. However, the Thunder Road beer was just ordinary. <br/>All in all, lunch exceeded our expectations, food was ok/good but not great.

Loved how it was affordable eventhough it was in public recreational area. Overall their food was good. Always crowded. Great service and price

Did not enjoy any part of this place. <br/>Staff just hanging around. <br/>Not good food <br/>Poor service. <br/>Will not be back. <br/>Great location and could be such a lovely place to be down by the beach. <br/>Try la porchetta much better.

Walk on by!<br/><br/>Location, location, location works in real estate and, unfortunately, it is the only thing going for Sofia's Frankston. <br/><br/>We had the fish of the day, calamari, a bowl of wedges and drinks. The sequence of service was like a dance out of time; the drinks came in two batches, the wedges arrived on their own then, after some delay, our mains accompanied them, again at separate times. The portions were huge but it hardly compensated for the rubbery texture and the lack of flavour .<br/><br/>On the up-side, our waitress was positive, chatty and confident, taking pride in her work. <br/><br/>A walk on the nearby beach is great, but when you get to Sofia's, like Dionne Warwick says in the song, walk on by.

"Spaghetti Sofia (red)"<br/><br/>-Tiny pieces of old chicken <br/>-Prawns are half a thumb size not fresh<br/>-Scallops are also frozen and size of a thumb nail <br/>-Fettuccine Pasta poor tasting quality <br/>-Capsicum seems to be the only fresh produce in the dish<br/>-1 small Mushroom Julienned into 5 pieces? <br/>-Pasta Sauce just tastes like tomato paste <br/><br/>Overall don't get this bowl of disappointment

Went there on a Sunday, group of 8. Food was served super-quick. Tasty food. Staff were friendly. Cant complain except place was extremely noisy.
Sammi Hinds
What a disgrace of a restaurant! The staff are NOT friendly, the food is horrid!! And it seems that their number 1 objective is to pump as many people in and out as they can. Don't bother coming, fish & chips up the road is better than this place. Avoid at all costs!!!!
Samantha
Worst Steak I have ever had. Was obviously cooked entirely in the oven (or microwave - who knows?!) Not very helpful with catering for dietary needs making me pay extra for fries when taking mash and vegetable off my order. The fries were also chips from the attached fish and chip shop. <br/><br/>My partner ordered a Parma and it came only with chips and no salad. Everything was just chucked on the plate. <br/><br/>Wait staff were uninterested and not very professional or attentive to our needs. <br/><br/>Will not be back!!
Sam Jones
Dined here a few weeks ago. Service was way too slow. Food was not very nice to eat. Charged for an extra drink that we did not order. Comfortable dining experience in a casual setting. I enjoy the blue lagoon cocktail, priced fairly.
Dvk
Had lunch here the other day with family members outside on the deck. The service was great and speedy. Food were expensive but delicious.<br/><br/>We ordered cappuccino ($3.50), café latte ($3.50), 1 lemon pepper calamari ($22) and lemon pepper fish ($23).<br/><br/>The only downside was the prices.
Arnold Keith
😩😩😩 Fritos Misto isn't a Seafood platter it a CALAMARI platter.<br/>Let's start with whenever I'm in Frankston I religiously go to Sofia's, I love the large variety that they have & the creme brûlée desert.<br/>I've had the seafood plater before, and opted for have it again. So I was served a platter that looked great well presented with the salad and tarter sauce & one wedge of lemon.<br/>The taste was average at best and the portioning was completely out of wake 36 pieces of calamari, 4 small fish bites, 4 flattened prawns & 4 scollops.<br/>I couldn't finish the calamari and they were not eatable. <br/>3 stars for service<br/>4 stars for the creme brûlée <br/>0 stars for the platter

We went to this place to-day what a terrible experince. The meal my 12 year old grandaughter recieved which they tried to say was LASAGNA was total SLOP. When we called the waitress over she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off no explanation at all. When went to pay the bill the guy at the front counter offered her an ice cream.Having been to this place at least 10 times before we have NEVER encountered such RUDE People there.By the way the other 3 meals were not up scatch Rate the other 3 meals 2 out of 5. I think it needs a complete overhaul

I know Sofia's gets really busy but most the food is really great here even though some times it can take a while to come out really! I haven't tried coffee yet but we definitely would come back. Something to work on would be a quicker service and get some cheerful workers.

After tossing up between the options in Frankston my partner and I decided on the relatively nice view from Sofia's in Frankston.<br/><br/>Whilst the staff were friendly and the serving sizes large, I cannot really draw anymore positives from the experience at Sofia's. <br/><br/>The waitress neglected to leave us any utensils or water, needless to say eating without a spoon can be a tad trying, however the main did have utensils so I cannot complain too much! <br/><br/>The main meal itself was huge, I think Sofia's is a prime location for hungover people seeking out a huge oily meal on a Sunday or those seeking to feed a family of 6 for the price of 2 meals - this was not us sadly. <br/><br/>The pasta lacked any flavour and we resorted to the trusty salt and pepper relentlessly trying to add some essence to the meal. <br/><br/>My final point is no fault of the manager, rather the clientele. When we approached to pay, it became apparent that a local good Frankston Samaritan had decided to pay our bill for us, awesome I thought! Until I realised that they had left us with their substantially larger bill - it certainly made the paying situation fairly awkward. <br/><br/>Whilst Sofia's fills you up, I cannot recommend the establishment. Sure big meals are great, but you can get the same thing from McDonald's for less.

What a great location! That was about the only good thing Sofia's had going for it. Ordered the ribs and steak, ribs were disgusting meat was dry and flavourless. The steak was a cheap quality meat and well over cooked. Hope they lift the game...

A lovley meal. Had a lovely dinner there last night 3 of us. I am from adelaide visiting. I had flounder and veges. One of the nicest meals ive had in a long time. My daughter had chicken and her boyfriend spare ribs which was more like a dinosaur on his plate ! We alao ate desert well tried to.... go with a big appetite you need it.! We were very happy with our meals. They could actually make them a bit smaller for the ladies. The staff were very friendly. We sat outside we had a choice. Under a heater. It was a lovely nite. No complaints from us at all. Would definitely go there just make sure you were something stretchy.!

Disappointed. Ordered king prawns on salad but got skinny little banana prawns. Put a forkful of salad in my mouth & bit into chunks of salt! Ordered kids meal which doesn't come with sides or drinks!

Awful. Very poor service with miserable staff.Food was not good quality . Went in with 4 kids, Parmigiana with mash and Vege. Asked to swap mash for chips. Told that would cost extra 6 dollars. Went ahead with order, out it came with chips but no vege. Couldn't wait to get out of there & will not spend my well earned in there again.

Miserable Staff. 12 of us came in for morning cuppa. The staff were extremely rude and miserable. Staff put a coffee on our table after we said we had them all and they insisted we had paid for it. I went in to ask for a friends coffee to be re made as it was meant to be half strength and was too stong. The waitress bit my head off about a Free coffee we apparently got instead of listing to my request. Not very professional!! Coffee was average.<br/>Will not return.

Sofia's all round excellent service!. When I entered sofia's i was greeted with a homely vibe, it is a restaurant that truly cares about your customer experience, the way family cares about you. The food portions are huge and the food itself is magnificant! i would highly recommend!

2nd Time Visit. Extremely large serves. Bring a friend and order 1 dish at a time. Staff handle most things- including wild weather events -with a smile. Be back again.

Valentines Day Dinner for 2. Hi all, just wanted to send a big thankyou to the Manager of Sofia's and the lovely waiter who served us on Sat Night - young guy with a toothy grin, very charming and attentive (table 95), sorry forgot his name. We ordered chicken pollo tortellini and steak with veges and a mushroom sauce. It was so nice, tasty plentiful and came out very quickly indeed considering they were booked out that night. Dessert was hummingbird cake with cream and icecream and love hearts on the side - nice touch, we shared. We brought our own wine and also had non-alcoholic drinks later on. The atmosphere was lovely and the night just dreamy. Thanks again guys for making us welcome and providing such lovely food for us to enjoy. Well done everyone, and compliments to the chefs !!!! Helen and David, Langwarrin.<br/>Definitely will be back for more in the future.

Sofia's Frankston. We wre at Sofia's today, no better than when we were there 5 years ago, <br/>Stunning view, beautiful weather, and all spoiled by very poor servicevery rude and abrupt waiter who wanted to be anywhere but where he was.<br/>Had to ask 3 times for a bottle of water, finally made eye contact and were totally ignored.<br/>Food very ordinary, and way overcooked .<br/>We were told we had to leave by 6.00, a few couples arriving at 5.00 were told they could sit outside, but had to be gone by 6.00.<br/>Didn't bother to ask us if we wanted anything else, we had to go and have coffe and dessert somewhere else.<br/>When we went to pay , mentioned it to boss, .....couldn't care less.<br/>Last visit for us.

Went there against my better judgement. Lovely view of the waterfront and the pier. I thought that I would take my fiancé there for a pleasant meal on a warm evening. The food was just average nothing to write home about. But what was terrible was the way they handled giving us extra items that we didn't order. We received a bowl of onion rings that we saw other receiving who the similar meals so we though maybe it was included and didn't read the specials menu properly. Half way through the meal we were approached and told you didn't order onions rings, we can take them away and you won't have to pay for them or if we leave them we will add it to the bill. Umm ok this was your mistake not ours. We won't be going back there ever! And we will be telling others about our experience. Oh and clean your tables so they aren't tacky.

GREAT VIEW. Sofia's has a wonderful position with a great view over the foreshore. The staff were friendly. The food way way below bad. A icnic on the beach is a better option

Wrong meal. I ordered an entree sized meal and only on receiving my bill was told it was a main. When I told them it was not what I ordered and therefore should not have to pay for a main size the Manager apologised for the mistake but insisted that the main be paid for - I won't be going back.

Terrible !. Is it under new ownership ??<br/><br/>We have been to Sofia's for years we love the baked avocado sad to say it but it was the worst dining experience of my life today.<br/><br/>-Lost reservation<br/>-Wrong table <br/>-Requested food out in one go we are pickers got "maybe we will see"<br/>-forgot our pizza if the waiter paid more attention he would've heard me point to it and say "1 mushroom pizza"<br/>The food was terrible (baked avocado) they've swapped the prawns for low grade shrimp couldn't see anything else (scallop, fish) on the sauce but tasteless shrimp.<br/>It was runny not creamy we couldn't even eat it.<br/><br/>Come on guys I know you can do better than that !!

Best Sofias. I had a lovely experience. entree arrived in good time, table was cleared swiftly after entree, once drinks were finished waiters came around and asked if we would like refills. Dinner came out soon after and was delicious. Service from the staff was excellent especially from Daniel who then helped us out with ice creams for dessert. Would defintly dine again

Give it a miss. The seafood crepe? 17 dollars for an odd dish that was smothered in melted mozzarella cheese. The dish was tasty, but after a few bites I felt sick. Not worth 17 dollars.

Yum. Great food excellent service definitely coming back!

Crisp and golden ----- not. Thought we would buy some hot chips from the take away section. Lovely sunny afternoon by the beach. They served up white, soft chips. No care taken in the cooking of them at all. Even the three year old only ate a couple of them.
Marinara
Worst marinara pizza in Melbourne!. Cold, dry, chewy base with 2 small shrimp and 1 anchovy per slice. Need to rename product as misleading. Dominos is seriously better quality. Manager not concerned at all. Previous visit my pasta marinara was presented in soup of oil. Should have learnt my lesson then. Also flooded toilets in basement leaving everyone to use the putrid disabled toiled upstairs. Last time we drive down to Frankston specifically to eat at Sofias sad as we have been going down for a few years and seems to have really deteriorated over the past year.
Jagedom
Awsome!. Thanks guys. I was about to take my family down there and friends almost 9 of us. So after reading comments we are looking for somewhere else to have our sunday lunch.
Mayofroses
Worst service and rudest manager!. My family and I ate there and was completely offended at how we were treated by the waitress and manager! We ordered a specific pasta with a blonde waitress and the wrong one was brought to our table by another nice waitress. We told her that this is not what we ordered but to avoid any problems, my family and I decided to take it but the waitress insisted that she takes it back so we can get what originally wanted and said it wouldn't be a problem. So we said ok, thanks. Before the pasta was to be remade, the waitress who initially took our order yelled at my family and I and insisted that this was the pasta we ordered from her and that the next time we better listen to her repeating the orders! We told her that we did correct her twice! She said no we didn't! We were so disgusted by her approach and demanded to speak to the manager. The bald manger was just as useless as he kept defending his waitress and that we must have misunderstood her and that she was probably just explaining her side. He even said well, u guys got the food!, so there's no problem ok?! When I told him that is not the point because She was rude to my family and I and she needs to ne retrained to have better customer skills! He got up and yelled and said "what would you like me to do?! What would u like me to do?!" I will speak to her! If u guys don't want to come back here, I will understand! The manager's every action and words made me so disgusted at how we were treated! No one even brought us our drinks and has to ask for it again. The restaurant was known to have a fun family oriented atmosphere but we did not experience any of that! We feel very discriminated against and disrespected! We are NEVER eating at this place again and to those who wants to know if this place is a good resto to go,...look at all the other comments..,,this place is the WORST restaurant to have a great experience !! Such rude people!!
