Review Duck Duck Bruce - Fremantle

ORANGE IS THE NEW STACK — Loved my pancakes!!! If you’re looking for something cheery and light, order this. Flavours totally came through. Nothing to complain about the food except too much burnt orange curd. Pancakes could be fluffier but overall happy w my meal! Service wise — waitresses were absolutely lovely but the food and coffee took too long to come. Long mac was not too bad.

If you don't know, you now have no excuse. Duck Duck Bruce is one of the best places I have been to for breakfast! I cannot verbally describe how well this team works together, to deliver an unforgettable experience. Such an invigorating way to start the day!

Delicious food!! A must try if you’re looking for a tasty brunch in Freo. The orange is the new stack pancakes are thick & fluffy & like nothing I’ve tasted before. Menu is a little smaller than other cafes but you’re getting top quality food. Highly recommend!

The staff were warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and the coffee was exactly what we needed. Duck Duck Bruce is a busy little place but the atmosphere was great. My friend even bought some coffee beans to take home as a gift.

Pretty fantastic cafe with food that is simply to die for. Generous portions and lots of options for vego’s and vegans. Service is meh, I think they’re just constantly overrun by customers to be stella servers. When I was offered a vegan option I got told I could “swap” eggs for mushrooms however when the bill came it wasn’t a swap but an extra charge, which I get but that needed to be communicated better. Save yourself a wait at the door by booking a table

Cute place. Professional efficient staff. Great atmosphere. Coffee was superb. The Carrot cake was just "Beyond Delicious". Always a line to get in. Booking highly recommended. I would go again, in a heartbeat.

This place was worth the hype, especially the service! The girls were all so friendly and accomodating. I had the big breakfast, bacon was cooked perfectly, homemade hashbrown were delicious and I particularly liked the homemade chutney that really brought everything together. My partner had the eggs benedict, the homemade hollandaise sauce was amazing!

Excellent friendly and attentive staff. Personalised menus 😉. Tasty healthy and yummy fresh food with generous servings. Perfect location. One of only 2 reasons I will return to Freo. 👍😀

Great little venue, attentive staff and delicious food. Was there as a party of 7 for Mither’s Day lunch - place was heaving, but the came quickly and was very tasty. I had a Rainbow Salad with salmon. Also tried lamb curry which had a bit of bite and tender meat. I had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert - yum! The lemon drizzle cake was lovely and tart. Good coffee too. Will definitely be back again soon.

Went for brunch on Australia Day and despite being absolutely rammed the food was still super tasty and well presented and the staff coped really well with the huge number of customers. All the food looked great but my Auber-Jean Is Not My Love was absolutely delish! Coffee and juices also great! Found out after they are also dog friendly so we’ll defo be back. Highly recommend!

Really great breakfast food incorporating traditional choices with a punny twist. I even had a great pot of tea. Have been trying out different haunts in Freo for a Sunday breakfast, this place is a 9/10. Will definitely be making a return visit

Start with the slightest bit of negativity we did have to wait awhile for the food however it was super busy and would be hard to get food out super quickly. Our coffees and kiddies juice came out in good time. The staff where super lovey !!! Beautiful spot and we loved our meals when they did arrive. Kid friendly and cute spot will be back!

By far the best breakfast and coffee in Freo well worth the drive down from Joondalup on Sunday mornings. Thankyou for being in WA
Amanda Benson
Seriously the best meal I've ever eaten! Cannot fault a single thing! And the service was amazing, the staff are so friendly. I loved it

Visited yesterday and enjoyed a delicious breakfast and tea and coffee. Quirky menu with lots of choice. Our server was excellent too :) Will visit again before we return home to the UK.

It’s was great 2 years ago, and is just as good now. Service is fantastic, food is wonderful with plenty of menu options. My fave - “Were all going on a summer hollandaise” (poached eggs with a side of hash browns and toast with hollandaise sauce)!
Berna Robson
Most delicious breakfast/brunch ever. Comfortable and cool vibe, friendly, helpful and attentive staff, excellent coffee and a taste explosion of food and textures. We’ll be back!

Had an amazing brunch today. Very attentive staff, great atmosphere, and amazing food. Loved the names for all the dishes!! Very family friendly but also great for those out for some time away from the kids. Will 100% be returning. Thank you SO much!!

Our new favorite breakfast place! Delicious food, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere... what more could you ask for!!

The best coffee in WA and an awesome menu. We were only in Freo for 2 nights and this cafe was the highlight. Amazing food. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit
Raelene Ekert
The service was good & the food nice. A shame the menu was so limited. We went there on a recommendation (friends had breakfast we went for lunch) & had about 6 things to choose from

Loved everything, great food, great staff, small cozy place right in fremantle

Tucked away in Collie Street, Fremantle, this is one of the best cafes in Perth. It’s quirky, the food is amazingly good, the staff are lovely, and everything is prepared with love and care. When we arrived slightly early, our table wasn’t quite ready, but the staff were really friendly and helpful and did their best to get us seated as soon as possible. The menu is funny – dishes have very amusing names like Orange is the New Stack – a pancake stack with burnt orange curd and toasted almonds or The Dating Game – a cauliflower dish with dates, cavolo nero, kale, maple miso dressing, pomegranate, pine nut and parsley crumble.

This is one of our top 5 brekkie spots in WA. <br/>They do everything right. The food is generous with well balanced flavours and colour. Between 4 of us we could not discern any opposing flavours. Well done guys! Loved the entire experience.<br/>We had the Hot Mess, Amber Jean, Beauty Beet and Green Avo. <br/>..<br/>To me Duck Duck is a good example of the 4 simple things that makes a successful eatery. <br/>Great food<br/>Done consistently well<br/>With great ambience and <br/>Friendly and attentive service<br/>Good one guys!!

Totally fluked it and couldn’t be happier with <br/>our first B’fast of our week mini break in WA. Totally memorable and recommended.

We visited on the weekend and arrived in good time to only have to wait a few minutes for a table.<br/> <br/>The dishes have an Indian/desi slant and almost everything on the menu looks great. I ordered the Auber Jean is Not My Lover (eggplant on roti) which was a great combination of flavours and textures. The dish produced widespread food envy from my fellow diners and I think it’s quite possible it is the best thing on the menu. <br/><br/>The coffees were excellent, particularly the cold brew. <br/><br/>The staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived at the breakfast peak and dishes were a little slow to come out, but the staff were mindful of this and apologetic. <br/><br/>We will definitely be back.
HungryHippo122
Very busy yet met with friendly, accommodating service. The food was nice, although a little on the dry side and lacking some sort of sauce to bring the dishes together. Juices are fresh and tasty which is always a plus.

Funky cafe in the heart of Freo. Came on a Sunday for breakfast with friends (be prepared to wait, there’s almost always a line). Menu is certainly original, with quirky fun names for each breakfast option. Between us we ordered the Trick or treat yo self (porridge - nice), the Summer hollandaise (ok) and the It’s not easy being green (very average). Coffee was ok but nothing to rave about. Food unfortunately took a long time to come out. Service staff were polite, the restaurant has a good atmosphere in general and the choice of sitting outside in the sunshine is also appealing. Have yet to try their lunch menu which apparently is quite good.<br/><br/>

I enjoyed the first time I came here so I came back. To be served, then to sit and wait for an hour for an order that had been forgotten about. Not one staff member that walked past us asked if we were waiting for anything, or needed anything else when we obviously were.<br/>For a non busy Monday morning I don't think that was very good.<br/>Left without re-ordering and having to be waiting longer. Sorry guys. Not happy, just hangry. Funny names on your menu though.
Diwakar Bhati
Modern chic interior decor, but I wasn't a huge fan of the outer tables - they make the restaurant look a bit cheap, when it isn't. The starter we ordered was unavailable, but it took 10 mins or so for staff to tell us.
Foodie In Paradise
Came here with friends for brunch on a rainy day. I really like the vibe of this cafe, so cozy especially on a rainy day. Coffee at here was really good. I had the summer hollandaise which I think it taste alright. Service was very friendly.
Wendy Wang
Friendly and helpful staff! The guy serving us was a gem and made us feel right at home. Interesting menu with some really unique options! Left feeling satisfied and happy.
Mira Listar
I loved this place not only for the food which is absolutely delicious but for the friendly, accommodating and attentive staff who made the experience even better. Please check this restaurant out for the homemade sausage roll and for the chai latte.
Nick
Old converted house doing great breakfasts. Great coffee, eggs and service. Menu possibly a little complicated for me for breakfast, but the choice was good and the basics were all there. Very friendly staff. Portions just the right size (not too big) and there seemed to be plenty of satisfied customers. This place is a winner and miles in front of any other breakfasts available in Freo.
Karina Shah
Love the diverse menu. Had a couple of curries and a couple of dirty chai lattes. Chai done the right way with leaves and adding your own honey. I had the Masala chai, confirmed spicy 🔥 and I loved it. Will be back 🙌🏼
Bec
The food was lovely but took over an hour to come out. Even the kids food. And was overpriced I think for the portions. $5 for hot chocolate, supposedly Margaret river chocolate according to menu but it definitely wasn’t, and it was like 150mls served in a tiny milk bottle which was awkward to drink out of so you could pour it into the cup provided. Just a bit annoying really. And $5 for the Serving was ridiculous. Plus baby change table is outside in between the doors for the toilets so you’re just in the way and also baby gets rained on during change which is awesome. Don’t really think I’d go back to be honest.

Nice atmosphere, stunning food and lovely staffs!<br/>Loved the “it is not easy being green” aka as brunch menu. <br/>Definitely coming back for breakfast menu!

Went to this place for breakfast last weekend. What can i say? I’m totally impressed 👍🏾<br/>We went there on sunday morning which was quite busy. Luckily the place is a quite spacious with heaps of seats inside and outside so it didn’t took long for us to be seated. They have a very interesting western-indian fusion foods to choose but I decided to order the potato bhaji hollandaise with beetroot cured salmon and my partner ordered the orange pancake. Hence the busy morning it took us a bit until we got our food. But all the waiting was worthed when the food came. The potato bhaji hasbrown is so tasty and crispy and the salmon was ah-mazing. My partner was very impressed with the pancake aswell. <br/>We definitely will be back again.

Everything I read about this place was true. First of all the building and entrance way reminded me of a beautiful old Dutch period home in Sri Lanka, airy comfortable, elegance. I never take photos of my food, but the vibrancy of colours and plating were gorgeous. The food was lovely and lots of effort made to give the senses a full work out! the cakes are a definite must try. Oh and did I say the service was excellent.

Came here for breakfast for the first time in almost a year the other day and loved it as much as I did the first! There are plenty of interesting options and flavour combinations to choose off from the menu and that alone is enough of a reason to give this place a try. I had the pancakes which were beautifully presented and super yum but I struggled to finish them - much preferred my friend’s avo toast and would probably stick with a savoury option next time. Prices are pretty standard for any brunch spot but the portion sizes are generous, the ambience is awesome and the staff are all so lovely. I’d give this place a 4.5 if I could!
Fasting Foodie
Delicious, fresh food. Amazing flavour combinations and a really different menu! Great service, only had to wait 5 minutes for a table on a Sunday morning. We were offered coffees as soon as we sat down which is always a good sign. Really nice ambience too, definitely worth checking out.
Lola
Visited here recently for brunch. The place was surprisingly bigger than it looks from the outside. We sat in the courtyard which was nice and cosy. My husband got the "We're going to need a bigger boat" aka the big breaky and I got the "orange is the new stack" aka pancakes with orange curd, almonds and cheesecake piped onto the plate. The servings were very generous and absolutely delicious! The pancakes were nice and fluffy and the cheesecake was divine. I don't usually order sweet breakies and sadly I couldn't finish this as it quickly became too sweet for me. The coffees were sensational, one of the best we have had recently. Definitely will be going back.

Dropped in for lunch and sat amongst an eclectic group of uni student types. A small but well executed menu with strong Indo-Asian influence with the option of making many dishes vegetarian. Coffee looked great but didn't order today. Lovely wait staff.

Impeccable service and yummy food!<br/>Gorgeous cosy little cafe in the heart of Freo<br/>I thoroughly enjoyed my flat latte with milk lab almond milk; probably the best I’ve had.<br/>The chicken salad was delicious and so was the sausage burger<br/>They also had a nice but small selection of sweet baked goods on the cabinet<br/>Would 100% come back!<br/>
Justamum
Busy Sunday brekky, relaxed, friendly and good food. Right in the heart of Freo but off the main drag, it’s a cute old Fremantle cottage that is light and airy inside with a warm inviting atmosphere.
Ashleigh Marie
Delicious. Fresh. Beautiful. I had the ‘little piggy’. Absolutely amazing, so tasty. Will def be back here!! Beautifully decorated. Busy, so book a table on the weekend, I went for lunch as the breakfast crew were just leaving.
Jessica Paulin
Busy time of day but accomodated our larger table request as walk ins 5 mins before end of breakfast service. Prompt service for coffees and food wasn't too far behind and all waitstaff were friendly and approachable. I can recommend Auber Jean is not my lover - fennel potato sticks, Roti, fried eggs, spinach, eggplant pickle and coconut sambal. Fresh and flavorful!
Lily
Fremantle day exploring and honestly came here just for the insta worthy and novelty bear jar 🐻<br/><br/>The bear shake was a healthy blend of various ingredients with a banana and mango lassi base with turmeric and other goodies. The big breakfast board was a challenge to finish but was a good feed. Prices were decent for the portion sizes.
Erin
Staff were so friendly, food was delicious and decently priced, they make a mean chai latte AND it’s dog friendly so plenty of cute dogs to pat. ☺️ Loved this place.

Amazing brunch food. Such depth of flavours it was really very outstanding. My girlfriend and I were very happy with our meal there and would highly recommend it
EHL
Cool vibe, well decked-out, friendly service and bloody good coffee.<br/>They lost a point on their pricing, purely because I couldn't justify $18.50 for a breakfast salad that was mostly spinach and left me starving for the rest of the morning. I'd suggest bulking it up with some quinoa or rice and maybe some avocado (when in season) for that kind of price tag.<br/>Otherwise, I'd be back.
Tamara Brown
Always enjoy our breakfast here. Nice and chilled out atmosphere. The staff are always friendly. Excellent food, good service and great coffee.

Yum delicious burger and chicken salad shared. The menu is really interesting and presentation is beautiful. Lovely space and service too. We will be back

The ambience of duck duck bruce is really nice. Very cosy in a little cottage. Staffs were very friendly. Food wise, presentation of food is good, very much asian fusion concept. But the taste isnt to my liking. My friends loved the food, its probably just me. I had the pumpkin mash and a mocha. I found the pumpkin mash too sour due to the tomato. My mocha was too milky, there wasnt a balance of coffee and chocolate at all.
Lachlantripp89
Ordered the Parfait, it was frozen solid and was not able to eat it. Was told by staff that it was meant to be solid and would thaw over time, waited 10 minutes before sending it back without an apology.

I was visiting Perth for a short vacation and 'freemantle' was a perfect spot to spend the day. We started our day with a splendid brekfast at this super cute cafe - "Duck Duck Bruce'". <br/>I cant stress enough on the best 'Orange is the new stack' pancake and 'Smashed Avo' i have ever had. <br/><br/>I wish you guys open up a cafe in Sydney soon.<br/>
OnePointFive
Lunch at DDB was exceptional. They used 5Senses coffee beans and made great coffee. <br/><br/>We ordered This Little Piggy Went to Market & The Dating Game with extra Chorizo. TLPWtM's presentation didnt wow me, but it's very tasty. <br/><br/>Eating TDG makes me feel good, healthy and refreshing. Extra Chorizo was definitely worth the money. <br/><br/>We were served by a guy that I served me somewhere else before. Back then he super friendly and efficient, he still is today. <br/><br/>Onto my "to go back" list, DDB! Keep it up!

Went to this cute little cafe on a Sunday morning, it was buzzing with people, but there were still plenty of seating options inside and out. We were greeted immediately by the most warming staff, who gave us the menus and took coffee orders. In no time our coffees were ready (delicious by the way) and our food orders were taken promptly. Service here was impeccable!!!! The staff were brilliant and so friendly, unlike some other cafes, it seemed like they enjoyed being at work/doing what they do. Most importantly the food was DELICIOUS! I ordered the "it's not easy being green"- avo on toast, and my partner ordered "were going to need a bigger boat"- basically a big breakfast. Loved this place, will defs be back!

Recently hopped into Duck Duck Bruce, a friend of a friend suggested this place to us, said it was the best breakfast ever. <br/>Unfortunately we were a little late and we were handed the "Just Mixed Breakfast" menu.<br/>There was nothing that grabbed my eye on this menu, I felt like there was a lot going on with every meal and there was nothing quick and simple...I decided not to order anything and my partner out of politeness; (because the staff were SO lovely and inviting, it's really warming!)<br/>Which was the days special - it wasn't that great. Tasted okay, but sometimes...less is more.<br/>Keep up the great coffees and great vibes :)

Amazeballs!<br/>This place is probably my favourite cafe in WA, beautifully setup with a great outdoor courtyard, but still plenty of seating inside.<br/>The staff are brilliant, friendly and attentive, the coffee is soo good too, regardless of who is on the machine, which I find is rare in places.<br/>Food is delicious and varies from dishes that are traditional to very quirky, so you can experiment or just get a great feed.
Jacob Crispe
my partner and i went for breakfast this morning ~ <br/>"i didnt quit sugar" hands down thee best pancakes I've ever tasted! also the big breakfast "AKA we need a bigger boat" was amazing! service was also super fast and friendly! would definitely go back! <br/><br/>nice outdoor dining area with street view or inside dining also.
Melimelo3
excellent. love cozy place in freo. staff are super friendly and accomodating. menu is delicious (love the puns) and has something for everyone. even for someone like me who is very picky with food. cute selection of sweets on the counter, and coffee was fabulous. perfect start to my rainy saturday.
Keira Clark
Food is really interesting and yummy. I haven't had one thing on the menu I don't like. Good service and good coffee, the staff make you feel very welcome, especially the guy that runs it - always comes to have a chat. I'm not sure why their Zomato score is so low, the place is great.
Brkfastlover
Absolutely enjoyed everything about this place! We sat outside which felt like we were having breakfast at home in our own backyard, very serene and welcoming, as were the staff. Didn't take long for the coffee's to arrive and I must say it was above par. Soon after our breakfast arrived. It looked as good as it tasted, eggs were poached perfectly and you could taste the freshness of everthing on the plate. Great coffee, great food and great service, a breakfast to remember. Will definitely be back for more!
Tahina Smith
Definitely one of my favourite places to go for breakfast! <br/>I've been quite a few times now and the service is always fantastic, the food is ALWAYS delicious and the coffee is great.<br/>I can't believe how low the overall rating is- duck duck Bruce is consistently great!
Threesquaremeals
Great Cafe!! Duck Duck Bruce ticks all the boxes - great food, nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Went on a Saturday morning and ordered the "we're going on summer hollandaise" with bacon ($22). It was deeeelicious. The burnt butter hollandaise had a hint of sweetness which worked nicely with the rest of the dish. The coffee was a little strong for my liking but still really nice.<br/>Cafe does split billing and you can book your table beforehand. So great!<br/>Would highly recommend and look forward to going back :)
Ashlyn
Awesome food and awesome service! Been here a few times. The 'it's not easy being green" is my favourite especially with some potato bhaji hash browns! The coffee is awesome too and the cold drinks always look amazing!!
Heike Motzek
I don't eat cake often; mainly because there are so few cakes worth eating. <br/>I am however totally addicted to this little cafe's rare gems. Working just a couple of doors away I fight the temptation every morning to not have another glorious piece of brownie or lemon & polenta cake for breakfast. More often than not I lose!<br/>That, and the fact that this is the most dog friendly places I have ever been to makes this a total winner!
Ari Mazzer
Delicious coffee (and I've tried the whole hot drinks menu), incredible food, and fabulous staff! I always have a laugh with them at the till. Duck Duck Bruce is always the first place as the first place I recommend to friends, mostly for an excuse to go back.
SweetPoison
Loved this place when it was yocal and still love it now. Service was lovely. Food was delicious. Everything came out super quick. Cute cafe. Lovely atmosphere. The serving of salmon could have been a bit larger - it was delicious. Menu exciting. Def recommend.

Finally found somewhere worth having breakfast in Freo. Food and coffee great, service friendly. I like Gino's for coffee, but never tasted their food much. This place ticks the boxes for me.
Dough Nut
Duck Duck Bruce is a winner. The cafe's rating was unfairly lowered by Zomato, which changes the overall rating of new establishments based on a nonsense Zomato scale of 'user credibility'. Good grief! <br/>Duck Duck Bruce has good food, welcoming, friendly staff, efficient service and cool decor. Will be back soon. <br/>Hope Zomato lifts its game and stops fiddling with our ratings.
Foodieperth
This place is amazing- it's up there with the best breakfast places in Perth. We came early on a Wednesday morning and were greeted by the friendly staff. I ordered the "The morning after the night before" which is basically a breakfast burger- smashed avo, bacon, bacon jam and a poached egg sit on top of a pretzel bun. It was extremely tasty- all flavours working together. I particularly loved the oozing poached egg over the burger. We will definitely be back!
Freoman
Coffee OK but a little milky for me. Chilli eggs fine with fresh ingredients and strong flavours. Staff bubbly. A popular meeting place even in these times so boonif your a group.
Dan The Cake Man
This café has undergone a change of owners from what used to be known as the Yocal Café. Interesting new name and the menu reads like a 60s song book matching the 60s music they play. Big love already. I went inside and was greeted by cheerful staff. They offer table service so I went outside under the verandah to watch the early morning traffic and people. I ordered a long Mac topped up and the “We’re all going on a Summer Hollandase” a song that brings back great memories. But what was it I hear you ask… potato bhaji hash browns, greens, poached eggs, burnt butter hollandaise with beetroot cured salmon. Coffee came out quick and was perfectly strong and great flavours. A good coffee always leaves a good impression. The dish came out not too far behind and looked wonderful. Potato hash were crispy, the salmon had nice earthy flavour to it, and the sauce was spot on. A delightful dish that showed the passion from the kitchen. Excellent coffee and wholesome tasty food, friendly and cheerful staff, and good old rock'n'roll grooves will make this a Freo institution, I am sure of it.

Great new(ish) breakfast and lunch spot in Freo. Yummy food and really well priced. Loving the menu names, awesome juices and delicious coffee all served with big smiles and plenty of love. Cannot wait until open for dinner - what a great venue for a dinner and a drink. Keep up the fabulous work :-)
