Review Capri Restaurant - Fremantle

Foodie Foodie
This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Perth, Capri has been there for years, they have the best pasta, love their Spaghetti 🍝 marinara and Ravioli, great dessert 🍹 too. We have been there several times, never disappointed. They are always busy, best to book. Friendly services.

Beautifully cooked and presented Italian fare in an unpretentious atmosphere. Be sure to book. My favourite is the seafood skewers and a side of spinach and ricotta ravioli. It’s BYO, there’s a bottle shop across the road if you didn’t bring something from home. My new favourite restaurant in Freo.

Just like nona's!!! I ordered the lasagna with very high expectations and it did not disappoint. I took the picture mid-way through the meal so looks a bit messy which in hindsight also looks like the one my nona used to cook. Just perfect!! I also always appreciate a restaurant who offers complimentary bread and butter, so simple but a rarity in Australia. And they go even further with a complimentary delicious broth as entry. This place ia a gem!

Amazing staff &owner, service is unbelievable so friendly and helpful, they make you feel like family. Food is well priced and taste just like you would expect.. nice family run restaurant...

Friendly, fast service. Food is delicious, the closest you'll get to an authentic Italian, home cooked meal. Seafood Marinara is my go to dish, can't go past it every time I dine here. Would recommend to all my friends and family.

Great service by staff and helpful. Food was outstanding.

After being turned away from a larger Italian restaurant in Freo because there were only 2 of us and we couldn't apparently sit outside (?!), we found Capri Restaurant. The other restaurant actually did us a favour, because our meal at Capri was delicious. The service was prompt, friendly and attentive. The place was busy but wasn't too noisy. We will definitely come again.

Old style Italian food. Iconic Freo restaurant.

On our visit to Fremantle from Melbourne, we had dinner at Capri and it didnt disappoint! Firstly, we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. On ordering our meals, the waitress informed us that we receive complimentary minestrone and bread when we ordered a main. The minestrone was delicious and was just enough to start off dinner. We ordered calamari fritti for entree and they were amazing! So tender and flavoursome! Our mains of veal schnitzel (cotolette) were beautiful and cooked perfectly and with the side of salad finished off the meal. All reasonably priced also! We will be recommending! :)

Such a pity / have been coming regularly for the past 20 years, used to be amazing, has been average the past few years but on Thursday night the service was so rude it doesn’t justify even one star.<br/><br/>Waitress was argumentative (not sure of name, dark hair, Hula Hoops for ear rings) wanted to charge us $6 for a soup because one guest was only having a small Garlic Prawns for her main, not a large size. So went without the soup, garlic bread which was ordered with the mains, came out about 30 minutes before the main course. When queried was scalded by the waitress that garlic bread is an entree and doesn’t come out with mains, I queried why and her answer “because that’s what it says in the menu 🙄🙄”<br/><br/>Mains took nearly an hour to come out, again when asked the waitress (Yep the one with Hula Hoops in her ears) was told they wouldn’t be long with another eye roll, I said ok but if they were much longer we have to leave as we have a show to get to, the response rather than being apologetic with a sense of urgency “Whatever”<br/><br/>The food was fine, not good enough to justify the rude service <br/><br/>Won’t be going back in a hurry

This place is obviously doing something right, as it’s always full and is a long standing freo institution. Service was great, prices reasonable and free soup and bread a great surprise. The mains weren’t earth shattering flavour wise, but overall a good experience .

Capri is just like the Roma used to be - rock-solid and simple food with all the lack of trimmings. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was daggy but fun, because we made it. Can’t wait to go back.

just heartwarming.<br/><br/>every item on the menu is delicious and made with care.<br/><br/>and the service in lovely - from turning out the lights in the restaurant to deliver my birthday cake topped with candles, to waitstaff relaying my questions about a particular herb to the chef - always.<br/><br/>their best features are their generosity and their story.<br/><br/>I feel like capri is more than a resturant - its a good friend.

Always lovely home cooked Italian food at good prices. <br/>Lovely atmosphere great for family and kids <br/>Amazing deserts<br/>The fish dishes are exceptional, alone with the complimentary minestrone soup

Unexpectedly wonderful last minute meal last Sunday night at this no-fuss 70's-style little Italian family restaurant which opened in the 50s!. (The Monk next door was closing its doors!). Although there was only one patron left, we were still given a warm welcome by the owner and promptly served (free!) delectable Minestrone (best I've had!) and fresh bread and butter as a starter. (Free starters are unheard of in this day and age!!). The Spaghetti Marinara was generous and packed full of squid and prawns and the Veal Marsala (with a choice of salad or vegetables ) was plate-lickably good. No room for dessert, alas but we have vowed to return to try them and other items on the menu!! Excellent value for money!!

Loved Capri! Such a family friendly restaurant. I loved the fact they have a $10 children's set menu & the tablecloth is paper for drawing. Only downside was that the soup on the set menu had no vegetarian option. I ordered the spinach & ricotta ravioli and it was amazing. Very friendly service. Will definitely returnđŸ‘đŸ»

Right in the heart of Freo is this no-fuss little Italian restaurant with all the old favourites. I have been here a few years ago for a family lunch, and I returned on the weekend to see how it was. I arrived early on Saturday without a booking and was given a table near the window. They still offer complimentary bread and a choice of two soups. I went the complimentary chicken soup and the entrée sized ravioli alla panna e funghi. The soup arrived quickly and was hot and nice to start a meal. I had forgotten they were BYO only, but that explained all the patrons arriving with boxes and bottles; would have loved a glass of wine with my pasta. The pasta was brought to my table soon after finishing my soup and was a good portion. Loved the raviolis and the sauce was well seasoned. By the time I was leaving the place was almost completely full. Love that they do simple hearty Italian food without fuss, and the staff were friendly, serving with a smile.

Was really good. As others have said you are offered a soup entree complimentary. We had cotoletta dishes & all were nice and thin and not chewy. A side of spaghetti bolognese was great too. A small authentically Fremantle ristorante which hasn't changed much since opening.
Sandhya1814
The food was simple and amazing, it felt home cooked with passion. My friends and i enjoyed the company of the host. I had a mushroom ravioli while one of my friend had a seafood pasta and the other had a bolognese. Just dont forget the place is BYO 😉<br/>For desserts we had a tiramisu and sticky date pudding which wasnt to my liking but my friends liked it.

Family friendly Italian, the food is like the restaurant's look: not impressive at first sight, but delivers where is matters in terms of service and food. The complimentary vegetable soup was a great starter, first time I had a vegetable soup that I wanted seconds. The grilled prawns and squid then came, soft and tasty. We rounded up with some non saucy marinara and veal. Both worth a try. Would definitely come again :)

Absolutely fantastic food. Wholesome, rich flavour, great service, excellent value for money, soup and bread complimentary with mains! Unheard-of generosity. Will be back. Best Italian in Fremantle!
Ashley Brown
Pasta is discusting served cold and dryed out !!! Do not complain as the manager has a chip on hes shoulder and tells  the customer that they are wrong !!!! Very unadvertising and unprofessional should always listen to customers feedback as this what pays the wages and lease !!!! The pizza also tasted like a dryed out bland cardboard. I wouldn't go back there if it was the only pizza place left on the planet. Best to find somewhere else who can cook.

We used to frequent the Capri restaurant in Fremantle the food is ok not as good as some other restaurants, which is more i can say about their staff manners !!! if your expect friendly and fast service do yourself a favour go elsewhere... The waitstaff are rude and have no communication skills.... also the decor is old and shabby and definately needs a renovation, . they even put pieces of paper on top of the tables which is rediculous . I think they should bring in a few decent chefs as it takes an hr to be serve and by that time you have lost your appetite. Also they should think about their customers and treat them with a little bit more respect!!! Manners go along way in a small business.
John Davies
Extremely bad service so many rude waitresses we were regulars at the Capri and were put of due to the nature of their waiting staff !!! One particular older dark haired large lady that wears kmart sneakers made us feel very unwelcome. Any simple request was too much hassel and we felt like she wanted us to leave... The food was not to the standard for the prices we were charged !!!! Overall the experience was extremely bad !!! Won't be taken my hard earnt money again !!!!! Very disappointing...

We went to Capri mid-week without a booking, it was packed! We saw this as a good sign as there are so many Italian restaurants in Freo and we managed to snag a table as the previous occupants were departing. We came unprepared and discovered that Capri is BYO only. No problem, there are two bottle shops a stone’s throw away and it wasnt long until we were sipping on our red wine perusing the menu! We both ordered the large sized serving of lasagne (also available in a smaller sized serving), a bowl of chips and garlic bread; all were delicious and the lasagne had perfectly balanced layers.<br/><br/>Capri also provides complimentary fresh bread and minestrone soup to start, the soup was very tasty and filling. In hindsight, we definitely did not need to order the chips! All in all a great experience with old-school Italian hospitality and great value considering the complimentary offerings and BYO (I'm not sure if we even got charged for corkage, but don’t hold me to that). I will certainly be returning soon.

Food was fantastic! This is real food cooked with heart. Can't believe we had complimentary bread and minestrone soup. It was flavoursome too and huge!. My fillet steak with mushroom sauce was 5/5! Juicy, tender and cooked with the perfect charcoal taste. I want to come back again!
Casey
Traditional Italian home cooked meals. What more can you ask for? If you love seafood, marinara, fish or squid is delicious. Porterhouse and eye fillet steak is also a great. To finish the meal, get the sticky date pudding or panacotta if they're not sold out
Lauren Mortas
Went to Capri for a Sunday lunch hadn't been to Capri for years used to go with my Nonno. But this time around it was really disappointing, over priced, small portions, over cooked pasta and no real flavor can cook better myself.

We were here last night.<br/>  25 July 2016<br/>BYO Venue.<br/><br/>Service was great; the menu is simple, nothing fancy and home made.<br/><br/>Bread and soup were complementary. The bread was fresh and the soup very flavoursome.<br/>For mains, I had the crumb prawns and they were done perfectly, no excess oil and very tasty. My partner had the flounder, which he was also happy with. <br/><br/>We will go here again.

Got to get your Carb on somewhere, This little pasta mafietts of fremantle go alright for a bunch of very Motherly women in aprons. I would not say its your top notch wanketty wank cream of the crop Italian. I've had better. But you pay a round dollar and receive a square meal. I can live with that. Will be back.
Zoodle
Old fashioned Italian food, but pretty good value for money. Everything about the place takes you back to the 70s and 80s - the menu, decor and service. That's the charm of this place though. With every main course ordered you get complimentary bread and soup! Now I haven't seen that in decades! ! The soup last night was a minestrone and one of the best I've ever had. <br/>Pasta was ok, not the best in Fremantle but not the worst either. Veal scallopini was delicious. Would go back for sure.
Mike
This is home cooking at its best with staff that are helpful, courteous and friendly. Highly recommended and I can only hope that this was not a "one time goodie"<br/><br/>So many of my friends and I often wonder where places like this have gone because a great majority of restaurants these days have food that is average with staff that are below par and prices that are over the top (considering the quality and skill required).
Kara Ko
The food and service is excellent. The ravioli taste increedibly delicious. The desserts are great and the prices are not expensive at all. Definitely will come back for another try.
Affili.atewithfood
If you want pretentious Italian with fancy flair and bullshit prices then don't go here. If you want home cooking at an affordable price with delicious complementary bread and minestrone with BYO wine list - then come here! Reminded me of my Nanna's cooking when she was still here. Homemade ravioli in bolognese was yum yum yum! The minestrone is also delicious.

Dining at Capri makes you feel like you went back in time- in a good way. The now 50 year old restaurant still run by its original owners, hits the sweet spot for Italian comfort food. The decor while ageing holds the charm of this restarants tenure on the Fremantle strip. I dined on what was a busy monday night, the service was good and the food was satisfying. Started with their complimentary minestrone soup and bruschetta. I had the Lasagna and my partner the Spaghetti Marinara. Simply put the food was no frills proper Italian. Both were delicious. The chefs use a healthy amount of oil, which for some might be a turn off. The wait times were reasonable and we paid $60 all up for our meal, which considering that is what you pay for the average pubgrub nowadays, I say it's good value.<br/><br/>Nothing fancy and nothing stands out about Capri, but on a strip inundated with Italian cuisine, this one will entice you with its charm, and ensure that you come back again for its food.

I used to rave about this place but that was before I had been to any good restaurants. It seems to be a real struggle to find homey, flavour filled, authentic Italian in Perth. We came here for Valentine's Day and I was pretty upset it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered, I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli and my partner had the Veal Marsala. His dish was good but it tasted the same as when I make it at home. My dish wasn't very flavoursome, the ravioli and the sauce lacked flavour and were quite plain. I also got sick from the food. I am disappointed this place isn't as good as I once thought! If anyone knows any good Italian places, please let me know!! #goodfoodofperth
Food Rants
This is my favourite Italian restaurant. It is so old-school. The complimentary soup and bread just sets the scene: this is a place where you get excellent service and a good value authentic Italian meal.
Perth_lady_likes_coffee
This place is a winner every time! Feels like your in Nonna's living room full of family eating and laughing as soon as you walk in. The complimentary minestrone soup and bread is always a nice touch! As is being greeted by the owner- (I think her name is Carla) every time and having her seat you. I always get the lasagne as it is unbeatable, but there are many options available; as well as delicious desserts such as tiramisu. Delizioso!
Angelino
Old classic. Used to to the Capri with my parents as a young boy. Traditional homestyle cooking with zero pretentiousness. Love the place. Original family still involved.

Have to agree with the positive reviews from others.<br/>Entering this restaurant is like stepping back in time, in a good way.<br/>What other restaurant in W.A. provides complementary bread and soup accompanied by service with a smile.<br/><br/>It is "no frills" (particularly the toilets) but what you see is what you get and not many places are full on a Tuesday night!
Vegemicated
Simple, casual Italian food. Nothing fancy. I think the furniture is the same since they opened 50 years ago. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is good but very oily. They offer complimentary soup and bread and it is fairly priced. They do offer two vegan pastas.
Lorna
Good value every time- I have been going here for years with friends and family and never disappointed, we love the complimentary minestrone and bread- great service too

I was incredibly disappointed in this restaurant. I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. After a show in freo we were incredibly hungry and this place looked nice and not as busy as the neighbouring restaurants, plus my boyfriend had eaten here previously and loved it. This night neither of us loved or even liked it. We ordered drinks and ended up waiting 15 minutes for our order to be taken. We ordered Ravioli and a cream based pasta dish. Then we waited for close to an hour for our mains, no exaggeration. The Ravioli tasted like it was bought from the cold section at woolies, and the cream pasta was incredibly bland. The pasta definitely did not match it's traditional Italian decor. Won't be going back. We will definitely try another Italian restaurant nearby next time we are in freo.
Bree
My favourite part about dining at Capri is the complimentary soup & bread before the main dishes arrive. I recommend trying the ravioli, it's delicious and a huge serving size. I take the leftovers home to have as a midnight snack :)
King Kunta
One of my favourite locals. Good food, decent prices, friendly service, free soup and bread and BYO! Can't go wrong! The meat and vege dishes aren't the best but the pastas are simple and delicious.
FatCat
Great. Gotta love a place that makes you feel like you're back in a 1950s suburban italian/aussie cafe, has a nonna in the kitchen, gives you a complimentary bowl of minestrone with your main course and does a mean chargrilled t-bone with side of spaghetti. Simple, delicious and nostalgic. This is not haute cuisine but I loved it.
The Tea Bag Ninja
Oh my goodness...We are soooo full! What a lovely evening we had at Capri. The calamari with lemon and parsley was fresh and grilled to perfection. The garlic bread was small, but again- perfect. Complimentary minestrone was so very good and arguably the best thing we ate. The two pasta dishes we chose were delicious without being too rich and the salad was crispy and generous and simple. Fast and friendly service that is there at all the right moments, but not in your face. The perfect place for a really nice evening with friends, family or a date. Plus it was very reasonably priced. So full still!

Good food and good service. Went to Capri for my daughter's birthday. The restaurant has simple decor and is cosy. The menu isn't extensive but the quality of the food cannot be faulted. Every dish that came out tasted great. Servings are not big but not small either for the price you pay. A major plus point is that the soup of the day is free when a mains is ordered. We had the pea soup which was really tasty and it went well with the basket of free bread. The waitress who served us was friendly and accommodating. My daughter likes carbonara but it wasn't available in the menu so I asked if we could have spaghetti with the cream sauces instead, she said with a smile that it would be okay. I was impressed. Not many restaurants these days would accommodate requests. This is our first time here after reading all the positive reviews and I will say that definitely we will be back for more visits.

Good food, excellent service and decent prices! The place is small and cosy and they provide free soup and bread plus it's BYO. Can't go wrong!
Linda
Honest, real & delicious. My family's first time trying Capri this afternoon, and we are in love with the cosy, quaint restaurant along a bustling touristy cappuccino strip. Food was fresh and delicious. Service was exceptional and sincere. Simple ingredients for a great dining experience. Hope this charming place never changes.
Searching Decent Asian Eateries
Cleaned everything, complimentary and paid. Went there cos craving for Italian. Ordered seafood, it was nice but the best was the minestrone soup and it was free! I wasn't fond of the desserts but others couldn't get enough of them. Being sick, I have been having problem with appetite and keeping my food down, and that day was the only time I cleaned everything served to me after a long time, without feeling nauseous afterwards. Great memory. And oh, great service too.

Don't Change a Thing. Homestyle, honest Italian food - feels like an extension of the family's home. <br/>I have been here countless times and have never been let down.<br/>If I ever have a longing to return to Italy, a meal at Capri is the closest thing without using an aeroplane. <br/>Additionally, wonderful value & supremely friendly service.
Fdd
Overpriced and over-rated. Service was really slow, sat there nearly 50 minutes waiting for two main course to come out. Serving size was really small for the price paid. Food like other people have commented it is 'home-made', but it is too 'home-made' that it's not a restaurant standard. Totally not worth it
Karlfmorgan
So good for so long. Capri has been my favourite place to eat for probably 20 years. It's unbelievable how consistent they've been. Food is simple, perfectly cooked and served, every time. Ambience is not amazing, but that's almost part of its charm for me. Please never change!
Girl_racer
Gorgeous food and fantastic service! I had the fillet mingnon which was really tasty and the veggies were perfectly cooked. My partner had pasta which he enjoyed and our friends had chicken and spaghetti and they loved it!

I have never been to a cafe that has great customer service bwfore i must say i really enjoyed the coffee i hardly drink coffee but i must say best coffee in the world

Miss. Been twice to this place now, Ravioli was pretty avergae not fresh, partnerr loved the food here but he likes bland food. If you looking for basic, rather bland food this is the place <br/>second attept was worse crumbed veal badly cooked, soggy breadcrumbs
Roberto
A personal favourite.. Always had good service here. The soup is complimentary. The bread likewise.<br/>Salad or vegetables come with the main meat or seafood dishes. One of my favourites is the grilled calamari. Long live the Capri.

Rudest Woman in Customer Service. So I rang these "pleasant" people, trying to book a table for my girlfriend and I's anniversary / Valentines dinner. I waited awhile for someone to answer the phone, as I guessed they could be busy for lunch. This lady answers the phone - "Capri Restaurant", of which I reply "Hi, I was wondering if I could make a bo....", at which point I get cut off by her saying "NO, YOU HAVE TO WAIT" and then muffling her phone against her hand. Her attempt at muffling the phone, in fact didn't stop all her yelling coming through my phone at her staff members in the kitchen. At this point I was fuming with disgust, eventually hanging up after 3 minutes of waiting for her to get back to me.<br/><br/>Firstly I couldn't believe how rude she was to me, but I also couldn't believe how rude she was to her staff ON THE PHONE TO ME.<br/><br/>Would not recommend going to this restaurant, unless you love rude staff.

Good homestyle italian. This restaurant has been doing well here for years and for good reason ,Italian food jus like ya momma would have cooked if she was Italian, the complimentary minestrone soup and Italian bread is delicious and has been the deciding factor many times when trying to choose a restaurant to dine at in Fremantle ,the meals are of generous serving size and good quality. I have been coming here for a long time an have tried a lot of the dishes all have been good to exceptional and well priced. This is one of those restaurants that simply does it right, the food and the price, that's why it's been here for long time and will survive a lot longer some other "wanna be" Italian restaurants could learn a lot from this Fremantle icon.
Tanya
The free minestrone soup on arrival was to die for, very Yum! The service was impeccable from our waitress named Olivia. Mine& my partners first time at Capri tonight and we will be returning again soon.

True authentic Italian food!!! love the soup to start and always a perfect time between soup and mains!! I do thing decor needs to be updated but I don't really care as the food it to die for!! still to hang back and try desert but usually too full.. love eating here
Mandy
Great. Well cooked tasty food and reasonably priced too. Only recently discovered this place and I keep coming back! Forget the other Italian restaurants on the strip...
Leon Pitsikas
Soso. The positives I can comment on. Lovely setting and music . The service good and friendly. The price reasonable enough. I found the Garlic bread very good, but the pizza Marinara to dry and not enough sea food. Plenty of Chilli mussels that were tasty but to dry again not enough sauce. The spaghetti Marinara a very generous serve was not bad but the flavour just missed and too much seafood in it. Overall about 6.8 out of 10 .
Peter Hugall
Love it. Every time I dine here I wonder why I don't eat here more often. Fabulous service & good honest food well cooked. I feel at home when I walk through the front door.the free soup is a great touch & adds to the welcome feeling. One of my favourite restaurants in Perth & always excellent. I hope it never changes & think it may not due to the fact of continuing family member participation.

Geoff and Kelly. This place has been the same for years, the staff change but the service is the same. The food is really good Italian comfort food. It is no-frill totally reliable and without a doubt one of the best kept culinary secrets in Freo, if a place is packed on a Monday lunch and dinner, it has to be good.people that complain have watched too much Masterchef!!!!
Margerate Moores
Was in over the weekend and by gosh was i underwhelmed? They decor reminds me of a mental institute. The curtains are horrible. The tables all squashed in. Seats were uncomfortable. The waitress was just annoying and clueless as she knew very little about the menu. And the food. Well lets just say i wont be coming back here again!
Bianca
Great little place. Went here for the first time with family. The staff were friendly and attentive. to our surprise there was bread and butter complimentry laid on our table and also a complimentary bowl of minestrone soup for entree.<br/>Main meals were lovely, simple and wholesome. We also had desserts which were delicious. Although they only have byo they dont charge for corkage which is really rare. <br/>my son who is 3 also received a complimentry ice cream sundae, which he was happy with too.<br/>the only down fall was the toilet being way out the back and being seperate from the restaurant, not good when its raining and really cold or for the young kids to use either.

Best described as 'No Frills Quality'. I've been to a few places around the traps but this is my first time here:<br/><br/>PRO's<br/><br/>- Magnificant service (we gave a $10 tip to the waitress)<br/>- Complimentory crusty italian bread (as much as you like)<br/>- Complimentory soup of the day ( Minnestrone on our night )<br/>- Fantastic kids menu ( Bread / Soup / Pasta / Icecream $10)<br/>- Wholesome food<br/>- Great serves<br/>- BYO and no corkage<br/><br/>CON's<br/><br/>- The toilets are disgusting<br/>- No Pizza :-(<br/><br/>I'll be back again and again
Dessert Smasher
Old favourite. I have been going to the Capri for 24 years and my family even longer than that. This is a good quality, hearty Italian restaurant. I'll admit that you won't find the latest and greatest culinary creations on their menu but their food is seriously addictive. They give you free bread and free soup (so delicious) and I always choose between the creamy garlic squid or scallopini, both so tender it's incredible. To finish, you must try the sticky date pudding, it isn't sickly sweet like most you will find. I would also suggest you order the salad as a side because the vegetables are pretty boring.
MrPancake
The Great Italian. There is a reason this restaurant has been operating since the 1950's. They have a small menu which is done extraordinarily well, the service is fast and pleasant, the restaurant has a coherent uniform theme, and the pricing is very competitive. When you look at The Capri from the cafe strip, you automatically know what you're getting and the Capri delivers a warm, unpretentious place to enjoy mummas best home cooking. <br/><br/>It is THE only place I have been to in Western Australia where the customer welcoming process is Swiss watch smooth:<br/><br/>1 greeted at the door 2 table found 3 seated with menus 4 bread and butter brought out to get you started 5 drinks 6 food orders. Bam bam bam, done. Everyone is served and happy. <br/>Simple. No umming and ahhing and asking for reservations and blah blah blah head scratching and staring around corners or looking for the manager. No fluster, No panic, No anxiety. <br/><br/>I guess over 60 years they've had time to figure out what works and what doesn't, like the fact that each meal comes with complimentary crusty bread and minestrone (where else have you heard of such a thing?)<br/><br/>Most of us are grumpy when hungry, so the worst part of dining out is having to wait around either for a table or something to snack on up front, so its great to know that as soon as you walk in it's only a minute or so until you're eating something and your order is taken. The kitchen is also super fast at getting your mains out. <br/><br/>The food is true WA Italian (if you were part of or knew an Italian family in the 60's or 70's living in Spearwood, Hammy Hill or Freo you know what I mean). Their meat sauce is perfect, not too wet and tomato 'saucy', but meaty with the right balance of pork, beef and herbs and their pasta is perfect. If you're looking for the Spag Bog your Aussie mum makes or are used to a Leggo's jar of sauce, or if you want a jazzed up modern-fusion restaurant rock star chef plate of attitude and art you're going to be disappointed, try elsewhere. This is proper post-war Italian migrant home cooking. Keep that in mind.<br/><br/>A restaurant cannot survive for 60 years and be a bad place to eat. Try it out, even just for the minestrone or a peek at the kitchen out back.
Eatwithhendri
I love the desserts but the food was too simple for me.
Kevin
Absolutely delicious!!! This was our first visit and everything was perfect. The staff were friendly, the food was amazing and the price was very reasonable. We will definitely be going back very soon. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Sarah Culbertson
Love love love it!. My family and I have been going here for years and we love it! they are always so friendly! it is priced really well and its good classic italian!
Luc
As a family we have been going to this restaurant for years. We had dinner a few weekends ago on a Saturday night and it hasn't changed one bit which is why it's so special. We didn't see Maria but her daughter-in-law looked after us and she was just wonderful.<br/><br/>Menu is still the same. We had beautiful Italian crusty bread and the complimentary minestrone soup. Yum! Followed by their amazing garlic spaghetti and steak. The garlic spaghetti was still the same as I remembered. Just superb. We even snuck in a desert! The tiramisu and a berry crumble. What's even better, and unusual for Perth, is the brilliant service, gorgeous food, and a food bill that doesn't make you choke. We'll be back very soon!
Benjamin Travia
It's a Family Thing. I haven't been to the Capri in around 10 years, but I have great memories of Sunday lunches with my family on special occasions. It's a small, family friendly establishment with service that makes you feel at home. They used to have complimentary broth, which was quite delightful.
Penandjay
My parents eat here all the time and rave about it so today we all went for a big family lunch and not disappointed! The decore is simple but the food delicious! The complimentary soup which was a light chicken broth was lovely too....will be back!
David Alex Vass
Great authentic Italian. I've been here twice and was very impressed both times. The food is great, offering a wide range of pasta dishes and meat dishes. Complimentary bread and minestrone soup again adds to the authenticity and another great part of this restaurant. The service is great, the wait staff are very friendly and make the visit a great experience. Bring your own is positive. <br/><br/>DEFINITELY GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!

Simple and Satisfying. Went last night for a family dinner. Again. The Capri is consistently pleasant. My grilled fish was clean and fresh, served with a smal, but adequate serve of steamed vegetables. The prices are inexpensive, its BYO and the food is wholesome, simple Italian. Lots of seafood, veal and pasta. Complimentary soup is delightful, with their crusty Italian bread. Decor is very simple but clean. The service is cheerful and very obliging. I'm very surprised to see a couple of negative reviews. Sure it's not haute cuisine, but it doesn't pretend to be. I believe if you don't enjoy the Capri, you've probably gone there with a negative view, expecting silver service food and decor, but hoping to pay much less. A great, casual Italian restaurant with friendly helpful staff.

Don't let the 1980's exterior/decor deter u. Food is amazing, coming from a very fussy eater!! Yummy complimentary minestrone to start, bruschetta covered in toppings and a great spag bol! Mango sorbet was so good I declined an offer to share what was a beautiful sticky date pudding. Finished with a latte that was so good, it barely needed sugar. Very highly recommend the food and the prompt service with a smile!! :)

Is a great quiet little place, not over flamboyant in the set up of the interior, but a wide ranging menu, great service and impeccable food do more than make up for it. Will be back here for sure.

Very dissapointing dining experience. Visited the Capri for the first time on sat 29th Sept. Dining as couple got what should have been a great table near the window unfortunately this was not a great dining experience.Waited 25 mins before complimentary Soup and <br/>Bread arrived which was a wishy washy Minestrone offering.Ordered the Veal for mains which consisted of 3 wafer <br/>thin strips of Veal with one tiny potato and equally tiny amounts of Broccoli and Carrots this dissapointment was <br/>compounded by the fact we had waited an hour since the Soup had been delivered. We left the restaurant feeling <br/>hungry and also fustrated at the ridiculously lengthy waits.

Tastless. Had dinner here last Saturday night 22/09/12 with a friend. We made our booking for 2 early in the week for 6pm sat and were told they could fit us in but we would have to be gone by 7.30 we agreed as we were looking forward to tasting the food from this resturant after reading the reviews on here. We arrived at the resturant at 6pm and were taken to a table for 4 and seated..... we waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order then another 10 minutes for them to bring us a glass bottle of coke each. we waited another 15 minutes before a waitress came over and asked if we were waiting on more people to which we replied no and asked to order. we waited 30/40 minutes for our food to come out all the while watching the unimpressed expressions of people around us as they received their meals. I ordered the spaghetti bol and it was terrible! Tin spaghetti has more flavor than the watery stuff I was served. needless to say we hardly touched our food and left. The prices are cheap but you get what you pay for.

Simply Superb!. Service with a smile is a cliche for a reason. The waitresses are always so helpful. I like the fact that the owner is down to earth and doesn't feel it beneath her to greet the guests or clean tables. I also LOVE that you receive a complimentary soup with any main meal. The food is classic Italian, no need for anything fancy, it's delicious in it's simplicity. 10/10

Friendly place, ordinary food. Last minute dinner for three. Friendly staff and the place was bursting full so obviously a popular place. Food was rather ordinary but tasty enough.

Don't judge the place by the decor. The food is delish. And the service great. The soup was a tad on the salty side but edible. The pork fillet was cooked prefectly I was so happy. Will be back in no time!!!

One of the Best. I only have good things to say about this fantastic resutrant. <br/>I went with my cousins as a bit of a "follow your family footsteps." as my parents had done so years ago. <br/>There menu is fantastic, large range of different pastas etc. <br/>We were served immediately and they gave us fresh bread and butter complimentary. <br/>Ordered garlic bread and brusetta for entree- very good indeed!<br/>Ordered the vegetable lasnaga- I wanted to beg them for the reciepe! Bloody amazing! <br/>We were also given the minestrone complimentary- which I didn't enjoy as much. My cousins being Italian confirmed that it wasn't as good as their Mums. <br/>Finished with a fantastic desert.<br/>Came to about 130-150 for three of us for a full three course meal which is very good in my opinion. I'm desperate to go back!!

You get what you see 1970s .... You get what you see<br/>1970s decor and 1970s view of Italian food.... A place where garlic is a super hero because it's the only thing that adds taste to the food

Great find. Went out with a friend in the mood for Italian and found this place, unassuming from the front we nearly didn't go in, but as soon as we opened the door it was packed with chatter and a great ambiance, and the lovely smell drew us in.<br/><br/>The food was terrific, the service was a little slow at times, but overall had a fantastic enjoyable meal and would highly recommend this place. Serving sizes were large, plenty of bread and soup gratis. The price was very reasonable too. Didn't have room for dessert sadly as I was dying to try their Tirimasu.

Authentic Italian in more ways.... Don't be put off by the dire decor, that authentic Italian as well. Never had a poor meal here and the service is great as well.

Great experience. Really enjoyed this restaurant, the staff were friendly and food was great. Loved the complimentary minestrone soup, and lasagne was really tasty, great value, will definitely go back!

Great Food. Wandered in on a rainy Monday for lunch and we were so glad we did. We had the special of the day, osso bucco with veges which was very nice and also the spaghetti marinara which was absolutely excellent - best I've had. Loved the free bread and butter which was very moreish. Will be back.

GOOD OLD FASHION FOOD. Had not been here since I was a child. Great family restaurant, great food, generous serves and excellent prices. Will be returning again soon

What a pleasant surprise!. Friday afternoon, looking for somewhere to have lunch, saw Capri. Didn't look much from outside but the menu at the door looked interesting. Walked in, only one other table taken. Decided to give it a try anyway. So glad we did. By the time we left it was nearly full. Good, simple, tasty, well-cooked Italian style food. Complimentary soup and bread and no corkage (byo only). And not expensive. Can't really ask for more. I had the whole flounder, my wife had grilled fillets of fish - both excellent. My vegies were perfectly cooked (not too soft but not raw), my wife's salad was crisp and had a lovely dressing. We'll be back.

Hope it never closes. Have been coming here for a few years now and it never changes which is the beauty of this place. love the free soup, alway delicious. garlic prawns are suitably garlicky. my daughter spag bol with chips was just what a 5 yr old wants to eat. my son had the mixed fried seafood. a huge portion which he ate with a 'side' of seafood pasta. how many places serve 'sides' of lasagne, spag bol and seafood pasta. i've been to bistro vue and blown four figures but prefer the capri any day.

Old school family feed!. I've walked past this place so many times, uninspired by the tired exterior and canteen style furniture, but equally intrigued by the full tables and smiling faces within. So, on a quiet Monday night we thought we'd give it a try. 5 of us turned up at about 8pm without a reservation and were welcomed to one of the only free tables. There's no corkage so we happily tucked into a bottle of Swan Valley Rose whilst enjoying some complimentary bread. We took a while deciding what to order but the staff were cheery and happily brought us more bread (and vinegar and oil when requested). The mains came with a free bowl of Minestrone soup so there was no need to order a starter. The soup was hearty and flavoursome. My main of Spaghetti Mariana was tasty and full of seafood (although the scallops were teeny and a wee bit chewy). Other mains around the table included: Meat Ravioli, Veal Saltimbocca, John Dory and Crumbed Veal, all of which were tasty (and the other half loved the fact you could get a side of lasagne!). The home-made chips were to die for!! This place isn't going to win any chefs hats and it's not the place for those after haute cuisine but if you want a decent feed for a reasonable price (under $30 a head, and we were stuffed!!) then this quaint family run place is worth a look!

Basic but delicious. Came here on Saturday night because they have no corkage. Yay!<br/>The service was great, fast, friendly, unobtrusive.<br/>The menu was very very basic. Lots of crumbed seafood and veal dishes. Most of the pasta was beef-based.<br/>Ravioli with bolognese sauce was really good though! They do the basics well. Very cheap too. About $20 for small pastas which were big servings.<br/>The toilets were... Hmm you need to walk down into the backyard, bit of an adventure! <br/>Overall if you're looking for cheap cheerful food with no fuss, come here.

I rang to book a table on New Years Eve after reading other reviews. As expected I was told they were fully booked, but they had held a few tables back for walk in's so we should just turn up. So glad we did. Authentic Italian food, cooked to perfection!!!!! Highly recommended 5*****

Good but slow. Used it many times. Actually love the place but service (as I find often in Freo) too slow on our last two visits. minutes without being acknowledged even for a drink after seatiing is very poor. Food very nice although fish portion stingey.

Geoff. An institution...always good

Oh I do enjoy a good pasta. And a decent drop at a reasonable price

We went for lunch today & all of us were so disappointed! The serving size is almost embarrassing & as a result some of us walked out hungry. For $25 you would expect a lot more than 2 tiny bits of veal & a very basic garden salad. There wasn't even any sauce with the veal. I'm sure if their Italian rellys saw the portions they would be be up in arms. Never going back I'm afraid, way too many other good value, great tasting laces to eat.

Happy capri. The staff are friendly and the food is amazing at this cute little restaurant in Freo. Similar food and prices to Ginos down the road but much tastier and better service- and complimentary bread and soup, yum! I was pleasantly surprised.

The best italian in freo. Dont let the restaurant facade and decor put you off. The food is delicous, authentic and good value. Complimentary bread and soup on arrival and byo. <br/>Get there early on the weekends to avoid queing for a table.

Home Away From Home. This place is Italy in the 1940s to me. Stuck in between busy modern places in the centre of the cappuccino strip of Freo lies a humble home-feel restaurant. I feel I am going back in time when I sit in a chair at one of the tables, cosy and tucked away from the noise outside. FREE soup and bread to get you started. The soup (minestrone or chicken broth) reminds me of home cooked meals I have had, it's delicious. The meals are fantastic - I love the veal, the spaghetti marinara and in fact any pasta. The salad is delicious with a lovely light mustard-vinegar-olive oil dressing. <br/>Coffee and dessert is delicious. You are given an after dinner chocolate with your coffee. The dessert - the best sticky date pudding I have had, along with home made vanilla bean icecream. <br/>This is one of my favourite places now.
