Review Strange Company - Fremantle

Service =5, Drinks = 5, Ambience = 5, Food = 3. Really good bar. The whole place is really well done. The only thing that let's it down is the food.

It was great to be able to have dinner after 9pm, while the rest of places would not serve any more dinner. On top of that, the food was fantastic! Cuisine with high detail. Congratulations to the team! 🙌

Pretty hoppy beer on tap. Felt like I was drinking tigga. Nice music wanted to boogy... but my booking skills come across as anibriated and I didn't wanna get boosted. Have Dave brewer play more often.

Hooked on herring,. Amazing food tonight as a special event to compliment the book and authors being showcased. Intimate dinner party for 20 or so people. Tom was a great host! Food stunning. Fabulous wines.

Went there on the last Sat of Jan and had a male bartender serve us. And my I have never received worse service from a bartender before. "What do you want" when approaching the bar, no greetings, casual conversation, etc. When placing the drinks on the table, just coming over, placing them down. Usually you'd have the bartender come over and say "Hey, so I've got the [drink name] and the [other drink name]. Enjoy!" Same thing occurred with the food. The bartender forgot one of our drinks, so we went up to ask and he replied with "oh yeah" then moved off to go make it, we sat back down then he came over and said "your drink is at the bar." When ordered shared meals, make sure you bring your own cutlery as if you ask, you'll be presented with an eyeball and a long wait. Even when it's not busy at all. Quite disappointing, won't be going back. Drinks were okay, bit on the pricey side but not ridiculous.

This is my favourite restaurant ever! Isaac and his staff always deliver excellent service and even better food. I come here regularly, and everyone I have brought here have been thoroughly impressed. I could eat the share plates all night, as there is such an awesome range. Thank you Bonsai! Keep up the good work!

One of my absolute favourite places to go in Perth for food and wine. The staff are super friendly and always give great wine recommendations and the food is always amazing, especially the ceviche!!

Very good tapas and cocktails, enjoyed the chef's tasting for 2 and fries. I would definitely come back with some girlfriends, it has very cool vibe

I came here on a Friday for lunch with my mother and son. Loved the decor, music and general vibe this place has. Service was fantastic! We shared a variety of tapas, which included the pork belly, octopus, croquettes and haloumi. All of which were delicious. I simply can’t recommend this place enough and we will definitely return.

Great atmosphere, service, food and beer. We will be back! I personally don’t leave Zomato reviews - unless they exceed our expectations and they certainly did.

So lunch (at Bread in Common) turned into a cocktail here at Strange Company. It was only fitting that we ducked in here for a cheeky Sunday arvo cocktail noting I was hanging with a strange someone (old friend, with whom I hadn’t contacted in a number of years). Anyway, with a great little selection of cocktails, wines and beers this place was just cool to sit in and catch up over a drink. Cool decors with a lot of greenery, making it all very calming. They bust out a band on a Sunday arvo which was lovely but did get a bit loud. Would definitely go back and recommend it to friends!

Came for drinks, stayed for the ambiance and conversation.

In the heart of Fremantle historic district Strange Company has an exquisite architecture and superb drink variety across the liquor spectrum. I wish Strange Company was in my town!

Awesome wine bar with interesting tasting plates. Nice ambience, outdoor seating, friendly service and a cracking wine list.

Some dishes are probably a little overpriced, but that’s Freo for you. Still a good night out and a relatively affordable bill at the end. Heaps of gluten free options too!

Loved, loved, loved the ashen sheeps cheese and the French rose; whilst the steak was well-cooked it needed a little more salt and a little more heat (it came out a tad cold). The miso broccoli was a winner.

Get on to it

We had a table of 9 altogether who all ordered 1-2 drinks and also quite a bit of food (total bill for everything at least $300). It was a friend's birthday and we brought a birthday cake. When I asked the waitress at the bar for some plates for the cake, she informed the manager and another waiter who both then basically half yelled at me that they were not happy that we had brought our own food as they had a kitchen and served dessert. I have never encountered such terrible service where despite my multiple apologies and explanations that it was a birthday cake, I was told that we should have told staff before sitting down. One of the waiters even followed me back to our table to inform all of us of their displeasure and grudgingly provided us the plates. It ruined an otherwise pleasant evening for all of us and also my friend's birthday. Had it not been a big gathering, we would have left immediately after being treated like that given the many other excellent places in freo (and we did leave quite soon after to have a proper dinner nearby instead of getting more food). Never returning here.

Came here for a couple of post dinner drinks on Friday night. The place was absolutely packed however, we still managed to find a table for the 6 of us to sit at. We ordered 3x cocktails. The bartender was attentive and interested to know what tastes we liked . He helped us select the cocktails based on our preferences and was willing to adjust the ingredients to suit. He absolutely nailed it. They were delicious. Def recommend.

Nice South American feel to the place. Friendly staff. Good food and some local WA wines.
A little warm out side due to the surrounding buildings.

One of the best cocktail bars in Perth and for sure best cocktails in Freo. A couple of times we could not get in when it is out of capacity on Saturday around 8 PM. Tapas are delicious, portions are small, but that is the nature of tapas dish, so do not expect anything big. Do expect good cocktails and friendly service at the bar.
A must do in Freo.

Busy on a Saturday night, filled with people standing around for drinks. Ordered a few drinks and when requesting cloudy apple juice for one they made up freshly squeezed juice instead which was nice! The fries were homemade and perfectly salty, mussels had a light tangy dressing, haloumi with pomegranate was delish! And the fried fish with a tartare like dipping sauce was tasty but the batter was a bit over fried. Would like to come back and try more of their food during a quieter time. Really nice modern spot down a quiet street in Freo.

3.4 rating

Service was good, front of house were very attentive and knowledgable. Drinks were good and selections of beers and wine were good.

We had the chef's menu. It was good value.
Just a gripe on the fact that we were a table of 5, they could not accomodate odd numbers(chef menu was to be shared by 2). Everything was ok except starters where we had 4 to share among 5 of us. I still don't understand how hard it was to just pay for one more serve.

Oh well. Lamb dish was good. Mushroom dish was good. Heirloom salad was good too. In general, food was ok but not memorable.

I would return for drinks. A lot of good food places in freo so I might not choose to dine here again
Brilliant
We have been here 10+ times. The food, service and quality/choice of drinks are world class. Try the chefs tasting plate for two...$65...3 courses, the yumminess, for two people is amazing...we vote this the best place in Freo...

Cool vibe. Great service. Visited with a couple of friends. Staff were helpful in providing vegan options for me that weren't on the menu..tasty but very small portions. One criticism is the lighting. So dark in the ladies. Literally bumped into other girls who said the same thing. Feeling your way around in a loo is not good. How's a girl supposed to reapply her lippy in darkness? 😆

Really tasty food . Great selection at bar. The staff are very happy to make anything you want , I just wanted a vodka . So they made me fresh cloudy apple juice to go with it.

Brocolli dish was the surprise hit. Could not stop eating the strange fries - they were covered in a spice mix and I preferred the ketchup (which they kindly brought me on request) to the tangy white sauce it was served with. Hummus and fetta with bread soldiers was also yummy. Bartender was incredibly helpful and friendly! Made fantastic cocktails which were fun to watch being made.

Great food and such a selection of drinks. True foodies!

You can choose different dishes- kind of like tapa- but they are so tasty and there is plenty on the plate. Friendly to vegos as well as the meat lover.

Amazing experience! Freo has definitely lifted it's game. Staff here know their menu really well, and make great recommendations on all their booze. Was very impressed with both quality and service. Fabulous spot for date night, cosy little tables, mood lighting, and a great soundtrack. A+

This place is sophisticated but casual.
Chef's choice for two . Delicious and yet delicate taste of octopus between sweet potato made my day surprising as I'm minimal eater of sea creatures. Mix of winter greens alongside lamb cooked to perfection were just right for this winter weather . Pricey menu for size of meals/tapas but quality ingredients used. Plenty of wine to choose and I'm sure the gentleman at the bar would be happy to have a chat if you are stuck choosing. His quirky calm nature makes this place something different. Disappointed when waitress brought out differing dessert option than decided.
Pizzasnob
This is one of the best new small bars to come in Fremantle scene. Loved every bit of it. Starting from just a simple thing as water. Sparkling water on the house, you won me on that one. Cocktails menu and list was amazing. Didn't take any pics unfortunately but surely going again with my camera aka phone and clicking some. Great place for an afternoon under the sun drinking some good booze accompanied by really good food.

Best service in Western Australia.

Came in on the 14th of June.
When entering we were welcomed warmly, when we got to the bar we were acknowledged immediately. The fantastic young lady was very patient with our umming and ahhing over the menu and offered to help us with a beer recommendation. She knew her products and was able to answer any questions we asked. Fantastic service long missing in this day and age. food was brilliant. we had the mini brioche, devils on horseback, lamb sausage roll and those amazing chips...

Well done guys.
Miss Foodie
Loved my Lemon Butter cocktail. Food was great, however a bit pricy. Feel like table service in the low table section would make this a much more enjoyable dining experience.
Queen Of Bad Timing
Stopped by for dinner Thursday night and was really pleasantly surprised. Though they're a small bar, the food is flavoursome and punchy. We really enjoyed in particular the burnt eggplant with feta and soldiers, the pumpkin waffle with goats curd and black garlic and the ox cheek slider. With glasses of beautiful vino it was a reasonably priced tapas meal to enjoy and stay out of the cold weather outside. Will definitely be returning!

Exactly what Freo needs! Cocktails were delicious, had a dirty gin martini and a lovely laphroaig citrus cocktail. The beer and wine selection was good. Freo does laid back casual well, love it and usually prefer it but it's nice to have this place as an option for a proper cocktail and a more upscale feel. Decor was minimalistic with bamboo trees. Service was friendly and knowledgeable.

Funky bar hidden in Freo!
Popped in here for a drink and some tapas and I was not disappointed. The decor and ambiance really impressed me. It was good to choose a wine from a list which didn't have your stock standard offerings. The tapas was great too. The duck pate was amazing. Recommended

Finally, a classy bar with new and exciting drinks in fremantle! You won't find any Hahn superdry on tap here! It was great to see different types of beer, cider, spirits and wine that aren't considered "mainstream" or "popular". The tapas menu looked quirky and yum.... need to check out the eats next time.

Popped in for a drink and decided to have a cured meat plate. Ended up staying for a couple of hours as we were just so relaxed and enjoyed the vibe. It wasn't super busy but helpful, knowledgeable staff. All food was served with an explanation and was really tasty! Great local service and will definitely be back!

Love this place. Had a couple of drinks and plates while sitting at the bar and we were really well looked after by Lou. The cured salmon with beetroot relish was outstanding, as was Lou's spiced daiquiri.

You know you’re onto something good when your palate sings all the way home. I had a chat at Terrace Men in Freo and they suggested to go for a drink at this place. Have been past a few times and thought today, why not, I have time.

Funky vibes, behind a large garage door. The barman, was very chilled, asked what I was after. I said something crisp and cold in the whites, and I said I do like a dry Riesling on a summer day. He recommended a Rosé which was spot on; normally they are sweet or mellow. Well this one was beautiful crispy and not sweet at all. If closed my eyes I could have sworn it a Riesling. My only regret is I did not take a photo of what it was; I will have to go back.

I also asked what he would recommend with the wine for a small quick bite. He suggested the heirloom tomato salad with calamari, octopus and chorizo. It came out relatively quick and it was a match made in heaven. Such wonderful aromatic Mediterranean flavours of the sea, the chargrilled calamari and octopus, the beautiful sweetness of the tomatoes and the tangy bursts of the pomegranate. It is a simple dish, but when everything is spot on and fresh, then it’s truly special.

Spot on recommendations from the barman; I am impressed at his knowledge. And I have found a new place to hang out. I will have to come back for sure and often, and try the rest of their food and wines. Great people watching from the front too.

Had the most exceptional service by a lovely lady 'Lou' behind the bar a couple of weeks ago. Served me her finest rum manhattan, and she wasn't lying! Ended up spending a few hours at the bar, indulging myself in their tiny (but delicious) anchovy and tomato treats, as well as listening to her talk to me about what they were all about and offered great general banter. Amazing service in such a beautiful venue... Such a good addition to Fremantle!

Visited Friday night with friends. Such a refreshing new bar! Staff couldn't have been more obliging, decent drinks menu and delicious nibbles on offer. We had the fries (chilli salt divine) and ox cheek roll (delish). And the music was great, such a change in freo, cosy and intimate

A good cocktail and wine list - such a pity that on a Saturday night so many of the cocktail ingredients were unavailable. Sigh. I ended up with a boring g&t! Nice fit-out and a bit of a different "feel" for Freo.

I popped in here on the way home from an evening at an event. Feeling like a middy of pilsner and a minute to sit down before heading home. I popped in here, having been told it was a grand place. Sadly....within 10 minutes I saw 6 glasses/plates drop and smash from the hands and tables of drunkard patrons. One man asleep over a glass of wine, waking every 5 minutes for more drink. The staff nor management, didn't take the bottle away from the half conscious man until he was an inch from the bottom. Other people were staggering outside falling everywhere hanging on to the walls. It was atrocious! I had to suggest to the nearest staff member (that would LISTEN) to serve a sugary drink and some food for the man that was barely awake. Very horrible scene....messy and irresponsible. Never again. Couldn't leave quick enough.

Great late lunch, well priced menu with shared small plates. Service efficient and friendly. Not a really small bar but modern with a good vibe. Good to see something open like this at this end of Fremantle. Sampled several of the dishes all of which were tasty.

Dropped in after a movie for a glass of wine - very hip and happening vibe and crowd - somewhere to actually get dressed up in Freo! Didn't strike me as a place to come if you're hungry although tapas menu had a few well chosen offerings (charcuterie plate, anchovies, prawns on toast) and deserts like brownie with ice cream from $6-12. If you like bread in common then try this for a post dinner drink (or three) I reckon.
Ya
Great place. If you like country music your in luck (not my scene but didn't mind it). A luxurious feel on the couches and lovely decor. Good was outstanding and fast. The only problem was that we were told we were unable to book so we arrived early. After arrival (30min into eating our food) we were notified by the manager (I think) that we had to leave in an hour because someone had made a booking at our table of 3 people. That didn't really bother me as we were planning to leave then but it was a bit disappointing because we get a little rushed. Overall it was great food with amazing architecture inside and a nice feel. I suggest ordering the prosciutto, any of the cheeses and the strange fries. Congratulates strange company, you have gained my approval and a rating of 4/5. I will be returning soon.
