Review Whisper Wine Bar - Fremantle

Nicole Major
Wonderful intimate wine bar, with an incredible selection of wines you can perfectly pair with a cheese board. The owner is lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxed and warm.
Peter Rogers
Love this place and is our favourite freo destination. For when you just want to chill out with a good glass of wine, cheese and meats. And just talk without music or sport blaring in the background.

A wonderful little wine bar that I can’t wait to go back to! Excellent selection of wine and very reasonably priced. The platters looked amazing and very good value for money - we were going out to dinner afterwards and didn’t order one but I was very jealous of the table next door to us! The atmosphere is perfect. Calm, welcoming and romantic. The owner is amazing! Thierry was so excited when we told him we were going to Paris soon and he wrote down so many recommendations for us - things you wouldn’t find in a guidebook! Very pleased to have discovered this wine bar and as I said, I’ll be back!

Best wine bar in Perth, excellent service and food. Chill atmosphere, beautiful place to spend time with friends or family. I highly recommend it !

Whisper Wine bar has become a bit of a "go to" for us rather recently. The building from outside is so beautiful, reminiscent of a small bar in continental Europe. The wine list is extensive, with many excellent wines. And the food is delicious. We had the antipasto board and it was huge. We even managed to get some extra baguette, which was delicious by itself. Highly recommended.

Small bar located just off the strip. Well stocked with a great range of options catering to all wine lovers tastes. Beer options too, though it is a wine bar so don't expect the same range (why would you?) Cosy quarters for consumption, an interesting galas fronted wine store upstairs. Staff are friendly and casual.
Perth Fun
Great location within Fremantle, excellent service and friendly staff. Lovely wine and their cheese fondue is amazing. Beautiful intimate and cosy atmosphere, definitely recommend.

Great atmosphere, fabulous staff and great wine list.

Relaxing and cozy wine bar in the heart of Fremantle! Great selection of cheeses 🧀 and wine 🍷! It also has a nice balcony on the second floor. Friendly staff too! What more could you want!
KelzFoodChronicle
Cute little venue. Amazing prices, huge platter for an awesome price! Variety in menu options and platters can be tailored to your choice of meats (I didn’t ask about cheese). Friendly staff, very quick service. The value for money here is a real winner, perfect little date night spot, open until 10pm

Nice wine choices with great recommendations. Very friendly bar staff. Good quality small boards. Stands out amongst other bars in Fremantle. Would definitely go here again.
Sandhya1814
The wines are good but overpriced and the same goes with the food. At the same time i wish there could be more food option. With loads of bars in freo, i wont make this my first choice to visit.

Love this place! The wine selection is curated wonderfully and their recommendations are always on point. This used to be fav after work drinks haunt when I worked in freo. The nibbles are high quality - cheese plates are scrumptious! Perfect place to catch up with friends, people watch and relax.

Classic French wine bar with a great selection of great wine and cheese. A bit pricey but worth it. Friendly bar staff. I would 100% come here on my next visit.
Greg
Great wine selection. Really nice environment. Sat outside for a few hours until the weather turned then headed upstairs. Food was just right for us. Staff really engaging and knowledgeable about the wines. All in really glad to find this place and will definitely head back.

Lovely lunch date. Very good value share plates, $37 to feed two hungry adults. Even better with the entertainment book. Not the first time to visit and won't be the last. Worth stepping off the beating track for.
Cb
Cute little wine bar! Was excited to come here but after ordering the 2 Cheese Platter and baguette for $19 won't be coming back (4x tinnyyyyyyyy chunks of cheese with a handful of lettuce and baguette). Happy to pay extra for good food and wine however thought this was a bit of a joke. Chatted to the staff at the end to offer a bit of friendly feedback however was told they were "generous" in their servings and offered great quality cheese on their platters...Hmm questionable!

Fabulous French wine bar. Flo, our very handsome host, was charming and attentive and made us feel at home. Fantastic wine and the rillettes were delicious. Could easily become a regular.

Wow. This is a lovely, quaint, quiet, off the main street wine bar. Fantastic wine choice with wonderful wines. The tappas here have a French influence. With wonderful results.

Hunt this wine bar down and make a point of visiting when you visit Fremantle. It really is worth it.
Ross
Great wine bar with great selection by glass or bottle. The Cheese board was generous and nice selection. Very friendly and helpful service.

Fabulous small wine bar in the heart of Fremantle. Have visited a few times, service always excellent, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Wine selection great with some different choices - makes a nice change, well priced also. I have to thank the bar man who enquired about my day in mentioning it was my mums birthday he acknowledged this a couple of times and then spoilt her with a very gooey, yummy chocolate lava cake - most impressed will be back!
Shake-N-Bake
Awesome piece of France here in Fremantle! Great food, wine & service! Enjoyed a great Sunday afternoon of wine & share plates.. Very authentic!
ScottyH
Epic. A little slice of France, in the heart of Freo. Friendly staff, delicious wine and tasty platters. The benches out the front are a great way to spend an evening with good friends and even better vino!
FatCat
Far away enough from the main Freo drag to enjoy a peaceful wine and a light lunch while people watching. We shared a prosciutto baguette and the pork and chicken rillette which came with a generous serve of crusty baguette and cornichons. Simple but lovely flavours that went well with a spicy WA pinot. I see others here have complained about the service but we found what I assume to be the owner to be cheerful and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Whisper is another of the many small bars that have popped up in Fremantle over the past few years. Located in a two storey limestone building at the corner of a gated mews in Essex Street, this French inspired bar oozes charm. Not a big place – small area downstairs and another little space upstairs, as well as benches and stools, shaded by umbrellas on the footpath outside, it offers a selection of simple food – baguettes with cheese, chicken and pork rillettes, duck terrine, marinated octopus and a range of sandwiches. A small, but well thought through, wine list, which includes The Sum Riesling from the Great Southern, Staniford Chardonnay from Frankland, Doninique Portet Cabernet from the Yarra Valley, as well as a range from France, Spain and Italy. On a lovely warm autumn day we sat out the front at one of the benches and ordered baguette with four cheeses. The baguette in the French style, crisp and crumbly exterior, soft, chewy inside, was a perfect accompaniment to the cheeses served up – gouda with cumin seed with mild, fruity tones spiced up by the nutty, slightly peppery taste of the cumin with its characteristic warm, lemony aroma; a creamy soft slightly pungent brie perfect for smearing on the bread; a ball of sharp goats cheese that had been rolled in herbs and spices, with flakes of chilli providing a zesty flavour; and a young Asiago from Italy, firm and sweet tasting. Along with our cheese we enjoyed a glass or two of Note Bleue rosé from Provence. A light dry style, this wine shows ripe berries on the nose, raspberry notes on the palate with a hint of citrus and quite

Has a lot of potential. It's a cozy, lazy place to spend a couple of hours sipping wine and nibbling French style food. The wine list is not huge but well balanced and has some excellent wines (none of which I had heard of, even the local ones, but all the ones we tried were lovely). A bit overpriced, I feel, like all of Perth/Fremantle/WA.

Shared a terrine platter (duck and pork) and a cheese platter (4 cheeses). All good, especially the duck terrine. The bread was good.

The thing that let it down a bit was the service. Needs to wake up a bit. We arrived at the opening time published on their website. They weren't ready for us and were not very welcoming at all. In fact when I pointed out that they were late the waiter got quite ratty with me. It was half an hour before they got themselves organized. They didn't even offer us a seat. Not good. On the plus side, they know their wines.

Took some international visitors here on a Saturday night and was really disappointed. I ordered a food platter to accompany the wine and when it did finally arrive the waitress just " plonked it on the table with no plates, napkins and cutlery, I had to go to the management to request enough for my three guests and me.
We finished our drinks and moved to another venue fairly promptly. Don't waste your money this place is very overrated

Perfect afternoon. We stopped by randomly before a wedding recently and had a few red wines with a cheese and meat platter. The food, drinks, service, view, ambience and baguettes ! were all perfect. It was the nicest place to stop and was really relaxing and pleasant. I would book a little party there upstairs for sure. What a beautiful heritage building. Great music really topped off our lazy afternoon. Thank you!

Great location, really stingy servings. Having recently toured Victoria and South Australia, I was amazed at the great value in restaurants and cafes there. When I read the menu at whisper Wine Bar, I thought finally a place in Perth (or Freo) that wasn't a rip off. Mixed platter at $24 sounded good. When it arrived, I spent some time waiting for the rest of it. There would have been $6's worth of produce at the most. I can accept $9 for a bottle of beer (just) but the pitiful example of servings was almost laughable. it was almost as if it were a course of a degustation menu.

French Gem. What a romantic little place, really nice atmosphere, great food, friendly staff, will be back for sure.

Whisper encapsulates everything that you want from a small bar.
Intimate lighting, cosy decor and staff that match the foreign wines.
It's where to come to relax, to enjoy life and enjoy the people you're there with.
Order the South African wine with coffee bean infusion... And be AMAZED.

Loved it!. Top notch food, world class wine, great atmosphere and waiters with a lovely French accent... What more could you ask for?

Love it, love it, love it !!. Amazing little gem, love the wine, love the chatty frenchy owner and the food is gorgeous !! Charcuteris platter, Cheese platter, cornichons, french butter and french baguette, what else do you need ??
Highly recommended !
Lola
Delightful!. We went as a group of 6, the staff accomodated us well arranging tables for us.

The atmostphere in the was lovely, very relaxed and comfortable.

The food was splendid, my son and I shared the fondue which was just sensational. The staff were fantastic, one of our party does not tolerate wheat so adjusted her dish to suit her dietary needs with no fuss and at no extra charge.

The wine list is impressive and we are so looking forward to our next visit.

Very quaint & different for freo. Simplistic rustic charm, feel like you're in a villa in the south of France. Impressive wine list, music could be improved tho (playing the Lorde album didn't really match the vibe??). Recommended.
Luke
So much character in this French wine bar. Cosy enough to be intimate, yet big enough to not be cramped. The staff are great and the wine list pretty good...and not overly priced like some places in Perth. It's situated on a side street just far enough away from the big pubs to avoid all the rowdy crowds. Highly recommended.
Coco
Absolutely love this wine bar, such a romantic atmosphere :)
Mo Sisters
Excellent. ...wine bar, very friendly staff, know all about their wines,
delicious nibbles and you can sit outside in the sun to pass the time
what more could you want :)
A White Donkey
Excellent place for quiet drinks and nibbles.. Went here on a Friday night as a small group of three. The food, service and atmosphere were top notch. Duck rillette was the standout, though the cheese plate was excellent too. Ended up being $90 for the three of us, including one bottle of wine and two starter plates including lots of bread. Worth it.

Will be back!

Geoff and kelly. We came across whispers a couple of years ago, what a top spot, shades of France. The food is great, especially the Duck rillet, and Thierry and his lovely wife Helene are perfect hosts. Some lovely wines from France and reasonably priced. Atop little spot

Very French. Gorgeous little wine bar in Freo, love, love, love, felt really like being back in Paris. Can't wait to come again and try some nibbles next time to go with the heavenly French Sav blanc we tried. What a find!

Go French, Go Freo, Go Whispers. We tasted Rhone, Burgundy and got lost in Chablis. Don't make the mistake of drinking by the glass, don't resist temptation always order a bottle. Lovely French fare complemented by superb wine and warm service. We started and finished with panache. Can wait to return. Love it.
Amanda
What a great little bar. This makes the trek to Freo worth it. A great little wine bar, lovely owners who are extremely helpful, wonderful wine, and the 3 platters we had perfectly complimented the food. I will be back.
Sasch
One of my favourites. This little French wine bar is so lovely its hard to resist when visiting Freo, Great selection of wines by the glass, teamed up with some simple but delicious platters with French bread. Who could ask for more? Love the simplicity and the elegance. Recommended.

Thierry Rodari, the proprietor of Whisper, is a true 'foodie' and wine lover. His enthusiasm, and that of his staff, come through in an excellent wine list and delicious 'tasting plates'. Highly recommended.
Kim
Great place to relax. Good wine list; reasonable prices;
Limited food menu but the tasting plates are good value for money and very morish.
Only real beef is the wine bar legislation that meant we had to leave by 10pm on a Wednesday night!
Captain Munchie
Great Service. After walking from Gino's, me and a mate grabbed a drink at the Whisper Wine Bar. The Service here is really great !! All staff care about what you order, have a laugh and actually come have a quick chat to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Just had a couple of Little Creatures Beers and the Anti Pasto Plate. For $19 this plate is packed!! Look forward to bringing the Girlfriend here when she gets back from her travels to taste some of their dishes and wines!! Until next time ... 8/10.
Alice
Love love love it!. Had intended to stop in for one glass of wine after dinner but stayed for a couple of bottles. Staff were friendly, wine recommendations were good, platters were delicious but could have been slightly better value for money. Understandable though as it is a small venue that has to make money somewhere. As said, the venue is small and cosy. The furniture could be a little more comfortable, but now I'm nit picking. The music was inoffensive and soft enough that you could still talk to your company. Lovely atmosphere. Will be back next time I am in Freo!

What a great little place, will be going back to this place.
Great wine and lovely food.
The Pescatarian
Sitting here we reminisced about our trip to France. What a great little place!

Wine was good, service was friendly but the platter of duck pate and bread was way way overpriced and poor value. Need to offer something more for $20 sorry.
Dk
Amazing place! With good wine n service !

Paris in Freo. There is a piece of Paris in Fremantle. Don’t pass this place by, it’s wonderful.

Sunday joy. We had a beautiful experience here...the barman was extremely helpful and offered us a wealth of expereince in choosing an interesting wine. The mixed platter was tasty..over all a joy to be sitting in the sun...watching fremantle walk by....sipping a splendid south african wine...tasty nibbles, thank you

Love this place-so friendly and welcoming. The food is simple, fresh and really tasty! The wine list is great. One of my favourite spots on a Sunday afternoon!

Little France away from Europe. I came with my wife and we not only were extremely well welcomed by the French staff, but we were given plenty of useful information. The place has an amazing energy where it is easy to connect with other customers. The owner and the staff took the time to talk, laugh and share stories. The food was simply amazing (most come from France), fresh and well served! Great selection of wines (sadly not enough French ones) but all carefully picked by the owner.

All in all, a wonderful little wine bar...
Bekaboo
Cute. Loved this little place. Great for a cozy wine after an arthouse film across the road at lunar.

A nice place tfor a drink after a movie at Luna. An excellent wine list, and a great place to critique the movie you've just seen!

Avoid...oh dammit im lying...i just want this place for myself. Natural, laid back, great service, great wine. Just amazing. But dont tell everyone though....its freos best kept little secret
Freogirl
Message to critical Kel. What Freogirl was "belting on about" as you so crudely put it was her honest opinion of her (and friends') negative experience at this venue. BTW the word definitely does not have an a in it!
KEL
Cosy, friendly, sunny, yummy smells!. We went to whispers late one afternoon for one glass of wine, and ended up staying for several - all which were perfectly tempreture controlled :-)

The smell of the fresh bread baking was amazing and after sitting outside for a few hours we moved to a table upstairs near the balcony in the cosiest room you'll ever find.

Im not sure what Freogirl is bleeting on about because we found the owner to be very friendly and chatty. All in all we felt Whispers to be incredibly homely and i will definately be back despite living a fair distance from Freo.
Cheeseandcrackers
A nice suprise!. Escaping the crowds in Freo on Friday night and happened to stumble(not quite that drunk yet!) upon a little slice of heaven. Simple and great wine list and an even better antipasto platter - all at very reasonable prices for what you get. The cheeses were delicious and the selection of cold meats was sliced fresh and wafer thin - the way a good deli meat should be! Great service, efficient, friendly yet not too invasive. Definitely recommend you try it.
Mike Blueberry
It was a great discovery! the different platters (antipasto and chees platter) were made with passion the wine list was very coherent and it revealed the passion for wine of the owner. i will definately come back soon.

One to go back to. I've now been twice to the Whisper wine bar and definitely recommend it. Fantastic wine with a wide range. The cheese and meat platters were perfect for sharing and tasted great. An ideal place to go with a group of friends or just a quite drink.

Fantastic experience en francais!!!. You can always be sure of a warm welcome at Whisper Wine Bar. Thierry is the perfect personable host and along with his friendly, polite and attentive staff they make a great team and their attention to detail is impeccable. The choice and variety of wine is superb - Thierry knows his wine, and you just cannot resist his imported french bagette with french buerre and duck rillette - simply devine!! He has a simple but purely delectable menu on offer perfect for a lunchtime snack or as an appetiser before your meal in Freo and all very reasonably priced. This is such a quaint and pretty venue and Thierry has made great use of the space by providing seating for any occasion. There is the cosiest upstairs seating with a modern comfortable colour scheme. There is access to the balcony which has a superb view over Essex St and the impressive cellar been made a feature in this room. The bar seating downstairs is more casual but still has a sense of privacy, this leadsto the outdoor on street seating which is cosy even on the coolest evenings with the outdoor heaters. With all that said I cannot praise Whisper Wine Bar enough!
Petpet
Fantastic! The wine, staff, tasting plate and antipasta plus the atmosphere. Already organising my next visit.

Love It!. Had a bottle of lovely WA wine and a great mixed platter on Saturday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great little venue to watch the Fremantle world go by and just relax. Will definitely go back.

A Slice of France. I love this bar....as a young woman going out on my own...I found it to be very warm and inviting....the service is friendly and quick.....I will be back for sure and will be recommending it to everyone...

Great place. Called in here one late afternoon feeling like a drink and a
bite to eat- had a great fresh baguette and some fine duck rillette, a nice glass of white wine and a whiskey to finish it off. Its simple but sophisticated- sitting outside in the sun reminded me of being on the French Riviera! Good quality food and wine, nothing pretentious, hospitable service, something different , beats the standard cafe fare anyday. Will be heading back this summer for sure.

One highlight of my time in WA. I went several times to Fremantle while staying in WA. Each time, I popped in for a glass of wine at the Whisper Wine bar and was very pleased with the service, hospitality, and ambiance of the place. The owner was quite friendly and made me feel very welcome. The cheese plate was tasty too.

Whispers used to be an organic wine bar but is now a cosy French wine bar.

It's cosy, francophillic, and focuses on the company of others to entertain you. No LCD monitors playing the latest SKY broadcast here, just plain, unabandoned human interaction.
