Review Fremantle Bakehouse - Fremantle

Adam G
On our visit to the Fremantle Markets we walked past the Fremantle Bakehouse and the aroma of the freshly baked food oozing out the door as we walked past was just too much, so much so that we just couldn't resist the temptation so we decided to stop there for brunch. What a great decision we made, it was awesome. The pancakes, cakes, croissants and macaroons sheesh, what an amazing choice. The coffee is good too and my pancake was just perfect. The staff is also great and very friendly, and provides a reasonably fast and efficient service. It' a bit noisy and a little crowded but well worth it.

Nice pastries but the cake i ordered might be a liiiitle too sweet but it was fine :) Thought they would give a small slice but it was quite huge.

Great little bakery, nice fresh sandwiches-cooked with love, very friendly and polite staff and great value for money, I really enjoyed this bakery, better option than the big burger chain across the road.
Wenjie Wang
Rough home style bakery, tried some scones and they were not bad value for the price.

I would give zero star if there was an option! Ordered Pancakes and Latte. Paid extra for blueberry & raspberries pancakes. Cold pancakes coz they had just put a big chunk of cold frozen horrible blueberries & raspberries on the pancakes, instead of fresh fruit! This made the pancakes even worst, soggy and disgusting! The cold miserable fruit was inedible!!! Latte was just steam milk with hardly any trace of coffee!!! Never going back there!!!

Beautiful food, nice relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff! I had a steak sandwich which was soo tender and delicious!! Also they do homemade chips which is so old school and refreshing to find in a small bakery/cafe. Will definitely be back here!!

A bakehouse that caters to Gluten Free, hallelujah!! A nice toasted GF Chicken Sandwich, finished off with. Cookies and Cream Macaroon. All while sitting on Fremantle cappuccino strip. A great little lunch joint!!

We did not enjoy our dessert order. It's extremely sweet, thick pastry and non flavour tart. Lemon meringue and lime tart. We did not finish the dessert.

I went there the other day with my friend telling her that this bakery is really nice. I was very disappointed when we got our food. The French toast was extremely small and soggy, that bread had no crust and only one piece of bread cut in half, I’m sure they could use better bread, or at least two slices of bread. Not happy at all with what we paid for, as we had to go and eat somewhere else an hour later.

I had the best lemon meringue pie at Fremantle Bakehouse in WA, Australia. It was a big portion like a meal! A meringue part was very light and creamy, and lemon filling was very rich like cheesecake. Delicious!

I had a piece of the choc caramel cake to go and it was delicious, very rich and moist. It was huge for $6.50. There was a good selection of bread, cakes and slices. The service was okay, just a guy doing his job, no smiles or anything.

Another Fremantle standard. The menu covers the standards (eggs hollandaise, Florentine, etc.) without being inspiring. Basic coffee. Crowded, bakery style atmosphere.

The food I ordered was not good. There was a stain on my plate.. And even Most of seats and chairs were really dirty And mess... I'm not visit there again. It'd better to go the other cafe.
Christine
Good food for breakfast and lunch. Excellent cake and sweets selection. Great pastry and will do special requests if you make it simple and ask the boss (Aaron). Prices are reasonable and service is good.

Big choice of fresh breads and rustic atmosphere. The coffee was served too hot but meals were nice. Authentic almond croissant with marzipan filling instead of cheap custard that you see at many other places. Make sure you check your tax invoice or bill before paying. When I got home I realised that I had paid for someone else's hot soup and it was too late for me to drive back to fix this.

Poached eggs on toast were ok. Toast came without butter and the eggs were quite small. Coffee was nice. Wish I bought a slice of cake to go.

My dad and I used to visit for breakfast on a weekly basis but it's been a while since we did so after s couple of disappointing breakfasts. Weak coffee, long wait times, and "Fremantle prices" have meant we have moved on. The pastry items for lunch, however, are still a draw-card!

Have been there twice. The first time I've had cheesecake which wasn't so good for my taste. However, next time when I had a Black Forest it was perfect. Nice place and good service 👍

Ok. Nice, sunny and unpretentious setting. The lady that took my order didn't seem very happy, but the service was quick. Had a long black and a croissant; the coffee was a bit weak and with no "crema" on top, but drinkable. Paying under $6 for that in Freo I'm not complaining though, but you might be better off grabbing a bagel and coffee for $10 around the corner.

Not bad at all. Prices are good. This isn't a gourmands dream but it does the job. If hearty good food is what you are after then here it is

Met my mum here for Sunday arvo coffee. We were greeted instantly by a waitress to a table. It was warm and cosy inside. The cake portions are very generous. More like a slab than a slice! Thankfully we shared the peach & raspberry cake that was super moist and tasty. i tried their freshly squeezed OJ which was generous but could have been a little colder. Mum enjoyed her mug of flat white. They have a few gluten free options.

go for the pies. made in house, full of ingredients (real chunks of meat) and very hgt pastry. the breads that you can but here are cheaper than other "artisan" bakeries around freo and the spelt loafs are pretty good. service has never been good here tho.

small cafe on a busy strip. delicious sausage roll. nice ambience. be aware that prices for the same items, are different if they are eaten in the cafe as compared to take awayy ie. menu proces different from counter price for pastries and pies.

Good service and luch was very good

Mixed feelings.. Good brekky. I ordered the vege breakfast which was delicious, I especially liked the homemade baked beans. I like the option of being able to choose what kind of bread I wanted, because normally other places just give you thick white slices of bread. The only thing that bothers me is that on the several occasions I've been here, the cutlery has always been dirty. Like, they haven't been properly washed. It kind of turns you off of a meal when the cutlery is dirty to begin with. But otherwise, it has some pretty great food.

Nothing special. Bland smoked salmon benedict and pancakes that tasted like they came out of a box. Ice cream was homemade which is cool but the taste was blah and too many ice crystals.
Luc
Nice food, Pity 'bout the Service. Somehow had never been to the Bakehouse in all the time I've been to Freo. Happy to say the food was good, the kitchen are kind enough to accept changes to menu items on order and of course a nice spot on the Cafe Strip.
I would say the only failing is their use of backpackers for waitstaff, which made ordering was a bit or a hard task - it took far too long to order a simple "Beef Bacon & Cheese Pie" (and I grew up with exchange students!)

I'm pretty sure the owner and manager don't read urbanspoon otherwise there would be some massive improvements.. I always give this place a shot but I'm don't after today. Sausage roll was rank and looked off. Rum ball was not what a rum ball is meant to be!! prices are ok I guess for some things but still not really worth it. And the staff well they are a breed of their own. Walk in and they are up in your face. I'm like I just want to have a look then I'll order thanks. This place is either your going to be served or you will have to wait 10mins to be served.. Mind you that's just for take away I don't know what table service is like but reading the other comments I would say pretty dismal...

Not what it used to be.. We had morning tea today and were very disappointed. The scone was served cold and the cream was that horrible fluffy stuff out of a can instead of real cream. The beef, bacon and cheese pie out of the pie warmer was also cold! To top it all off, my tea was luke-warm only and the cutlery was dirty. Can't say I'll be going back. Pity as this used to be a Freo classic.

Sunday morning breakfast ruined by a twice reheated salmon bagel and terrible service. I know where I won't be eating ever again!!

Bad Coffee, Bad Service. What looks like a popular, bustling cafe from the street, is actually one of the worst eateries along freo cafe strip.

The coffee was milky, burnt and tasteless and the service was no better. Three out of four of our meals came out...And the fourth after the rest of us had finished. The staff couldn't care less. This happens too often at cafes and restaurants and the customers hate it (I state the obvious because apparently the owners/managers don't know it).

To boot, the food is expensive and poor value for money... $17.50 for two tiny eggs on top of tiny muffins with a tiny portion of paper thin smoked salmon on top. I left still hungry.

Nuff said.

Horrible weak tasteless coffee. I went to buy bread and as I stood at the counter was told tho sit and order first and then buy after. Staff were annoying. Doesn't look clean

I went there for takeaway coffee with my friend. We have ordered a latte and a long mac, end up came out with two flat whites. Dint realise until we had our first sips after getting on the car. But seriously?!?!?! I hope they can hire someone who can make a cup of proper coffee.

A Freo Gem. Excellent, professional, friendly service. Food terrific value and location perfect.

Oh, you've gotta be kidding me Freo. Like seriously... I was pretty hungry this morning and after having a happy smile on my face, and to be pleased this bakery has gluten free breakfast options, it got my hopes up... To be faced with a female waitress who was highly rude with a not interested smile I began to feel unloved. I should have walked but oh well. I said, "Hello, how are you? (No response, not asked in return, bakery not busy, 3 customers who had ordered at that point)...I am looking to order a gluten free breakfast as you have some options on your menu----" I was cut off abruptly and shoved a menu in my face and told to take a seat. After a ten minute wait to be served at the table, the same foreign spoken waitress asked "Ok, hi, what do you want?" I admit, I was not fussed what to have but felt hey, something with a bit of sweetness would be nice... I said, "I was keen on having a gluten free option of the pancakes." Sorry we don't have that option. So I clarified with her it was only bread that was the gluten free breakfast option, nothing else. Hmmm, gluten free bread it is. I went against the thought of having sweet as I felt a bit sour at this point and said I'd have the vegetarian breakfast but no egg, which she looked horrified over. Thankfully the meal itself consisting of mushrooms, tomato, wilted spinach, avocado and a double serve of homemade baked beans with gluten free! bread went down nicely. Won't be back again unless staff learn better customer service. Swinging pig.

Had brekkie there with my son, we both loved it. Ordered the Big Brekkie, really good. My son had an extra side of smoked salmon, which he loved. Cakes are great too! Will go back soon as we live not too far away :)

Very Disappointing!. So much to fault with this place it was a very disappointing experience.

1- had a waitress who took our order with very limited english we order 2 Big breakfasts a Eggs Florentine that was supposed to be well done which was repeated to her 4 times and a club sandwich.
The food arrived we received a Eggs Florentine egg under cooked yolk still runny. Received one Big breakfast only with NO EGG when we questioned the waitress she looked at it said one moment never came back so i had to go to the counter and ask if there should have been EGG on a big breakfast and that we ordered two as the docket said.
The second Big breakfast was brought out 20 mins later with no toast no egg so in actual fact we got bacon tomato and mushroom? WHAT THE?

2- oh my gosh the coffee where do i start ?
this is probably the most disgusting coffee i have tasted in fremantle.
Presentation was shocking served a latte that was flat i should have ordered a flat white. Mocha that was more hot chocolate than anything else, but the biggest problem was being served a coffee with coffee drip stains on the side of the cup.
That shows no attention to detail and a lack of effort in presenting their bake
house with such low quality in presnetation.
Definately a MISS for me never should have taken that chance and stuck with BENNYS

Sausage Roll or Poo Roll?. I was looking for somewhere nice for lunch and came across the bakery. I've never ate in Fremantle during the day so I had high expectations.

I had a salesgirl demand what did I want. I felt pressured to buy even though I was just looking and minding my own business. I got what this place dubs "sausage roll" although this is the WORST "sausage look" which looks like one from the toilet - Mrs Macs even does better ones than these burnt things. This is probably the worse place I've eaten in Australia and the arrogant service is not needed. The only other place in the world I've been angry about (and my poor stomach) was Malaysian curry.

If I can poo in a bag and charge $10 for a meal then I should be looking at what this bakery is doing and profit. Yes, even from the pictures it tastes as bad as it looks.

Only benefit was I paid $1 AU less than if I had to sit in the bakery and eat the said poo tasting "sausage roll". I probably would have spat it out or thrown it back on their floor. I wouldn't feed an animal this *thing*.

Quick service for a busy Sunday. Food was awesome.

Great desserts but unfriendly service. I smiled quite a bit at the waitress and she just stared at me quite hostilely but you don't need to deal too much with waitresses here so I would just go for dessert. Yummy vanilla slice! Also the Freo Bakehouse may consider getting some new utensils, it's shabby and old and not in a cute-vintage way.

POOR & SLOW Service. The a sorted pastries are good, coffee is OK, but the service is poor and SO SLOW. Almost finish our cake and the coffee come after! Now I only come to take away pastries.
Remy Finlayson
The coffee has the appearance of dirty dish water, and it doesn't taste much better. Food is average but overpriced. There is not a friendly vibe when entering the cafe. It seems the new owners have destroyed what used to be one of the more pleasant cafes on the cappichino strip, Fremantle

Mars Bar Cake is AMAZING!!!!!!!

Great breakfast. Wonderful breakfast, endless gluten free options.
Great coffee and happy staff, will definitely be back!!

Brilliant breakfast. I visited this morning with a group of very hard to impress connoisseurs. The coffee was surprisingly good and the big breakfast didn't disappoint. Will be back again!
Lolalovesfood
I come here all the time for breakfast and in my opinion they make the best vegetarian breakfast in Freo but make sure you go hungry as the size is huge! The coffee is average, but the wait staff are super friendly

WORST COFFEE EVER. The cappuccino was pathetic with 4/5 milk and 1/5 coffee and a very thin layer of froth. The cake we ordered was incorrectly given not once but twice and was still not the one we ordered. It was absolutely awful, it stank and has most likely been there for a while. In fact both the coffee and cake were barely touched. Worst experience in Fremantle. Hope the owner gets this message.
Dave
The bagels should be called fagels, it was just a plain white bread roll! Wait staff were unprofessional. Goto one of the hundred other eateries in the area.
Jessica
Went there on a public holiday, very glad there was no surcharge however, had to wait half an hour for 2 meals and they weren't worth the wait. Very good portion size, and did have good flavor but just was average. Won't go again.
MmmDessert
Good gluten free selection. Haven't sat and ate/drank here but have bought their gluten free bread and enjoyed it. They also have 5 or 6 gluten free cakes which is much more than the usual! Will be back to try a couple of these.

Disappointed. Arrived at opening time this morning and amid the aroma of fresh baked goods was sold dry (day old?) chocolate croissants at $4.40 each. We won't be returning.

Indian soup rocks. They do an Indian soup here in Winter that's truly superb. Their desserts are just great, and the staff are very friendly.

Dropping standards. I have been a regular here (about twice a week for the past 6 months) and used to love the place! I work in freo, so I like to get something healthy, filling and yummy, and usually just get a chicken & salad sandwich on Rye bread... The Rye was always fresh, thick and soft.. the chicken has some herbs on it, which taste so good, and they used to pack it full of salad... The salad includes; lettuce, tomato, carrot, cucumber and beetroot.. HOWEVER.... the last few times I have been, I have been extremely dissapointed! They regulalrly forget to include the beetroot- MY FAVOURITE PART!!! and the bread isnt always so fresh, as it once was...and finally, this rant was brought about the sandwich I literally JUST had... they used the most stale bread, ive ever eaten, plus, they used the end of the loaf, resulting in my sandwich being about 1/3 of the size it usually is.... not happy, want my $7.20 back to go and spend at coles on a bread roll, lettuce and half a chicken!!!
Mazzzz
Burnt coffee!!!. Was there for quick breakfast of coffee and croisssants. Chocolate croissants were stale (possibly day old, or more)
coffee was BURNT, yuk. won't go there again!!!!

Mmmm. Love their homemade sausage rolls and takeaway coffee = hangover heaven :)

Good coffee, chillaxing ambience.

Nice food but..... I have been to the fremantle bakehouse three times all times have been nice, food simple & tasty but chaotic atmosphere, people and staff running around everywhere. the biggest downfall is while eating your breakfast the kitchen hand wheels a big green rubbish bin right through the dining room and out the door. a huge turnoff in my eyes!!! mmmm eggs Benedict and a side of wheelie bin yum yum..

The staff were friendly, and it was at about 4pm, an hour before they close so it was really quiet - its usually all hustle and bustle n pretty busy. In total it cost me $9.90 with a eftpos surcharge for it being less than $10, I think it was 20c or som
