Review Portorosa - Fremantle

Easily the best Italian restaurant we have tried in Perth. The seafood spaghetti was simply heavenly, the best we have tasted. The pizza was wonderful too. Would have returned anytime for the spaghetti, if we were staying one more night

Really enjoyed a family lunch here today. Service was good and food was excellent. Only slight hiccup was that as a group of 10 the chairs were very squashed together, however, 2 of our party were unable to make it so the spacing worked out in the end. Everyone there was very happy with the extensive offerings on the menu and the food served looked good and tasted great. Licensed with a reasonable wine and beer selection. A place we all look forward to returning to

Amazing Kilpatrick oysters and prawn pasta, with quick service @ 60% - 80% capacity. I would go hear again and try more of the seafood pastas. The pizza was soggy and thin in the middle making it hard to eat (but the flavours were great). The decor inside felt heavy and claustrophobic due to the fabric chairs, bright lights and beige aesthetic. If you are dining here, eat outside it felt much nicer :)

Good italian cuisine at a pretty reasonable price! I thought that the dishes had a good amount of flavour in them and they were very well portioned. The ambience of the restaurant was nice, we went on a quieter night so there were a few spare tables but easy to imagine the place packing out on a weekend. Food came very fast and the waiters were helpful. The Italian scene in Fremantle is pretty competitive but if you haven’t been here before then give it a shot!

Great Italian restaurant, quality food and service. Very popular and worth booking. Andrea is a machine, best top waiter going in freo! They do take away also.

The Bruschetta was the only thing that let dinner down which is highly disappointing because I love Bruschetta, it had no flavour to it, I also pinched some of my husbands fetta cheese to help it but even that had no taste (no I haven't got Covid), 3/10. The Casarecce Vegetarian pasta was very delicious, 8/10. Overall I would give it a 8/10 and would only go back for the pasta.

Best pizzas and pastas! Truly delicious. The pizza bread is soft and crispy at the same time. The toppings are fresh and yummy, everything is just right. We love to sit outside by the street to eat and drink while watching parade of fancy or unique cars and bikes passing by. Excellent service by the waiter and waitress. 👍

I loved my crayfish dish and our son loved his lasagna however my wife said her risotto was under cooked, I do love the place and the vibe and the staff especially.

Lunch was amazing, staff greeted us warning & explained their specials in detail, food was yummy, best snapper in a long time, for sure will be back to many more meals, well done all staff & owner

Five stars for food, but the young lady that seated us was too busy to take our order because she was socialising with some guests at another table. When she finally came and took our order we thought not long now and we will be eating. Time of seating 1 pm. We were wrong two more families come in that she knew. Next thing we know they have drinks and food and we were still waiting to have a drink. It was almost 2 pm before we got a drink and 2:30 before food arrived. Very disappointed in the service even if the food is five star. Also after going there for years I noticed the air conditioning ducts are filthy, and the whole place looks tired. Might not of noticed if service hadn't of lapsed so much. Wasn't even busy when we walked in. You may ask why we stayed, it's the food that lured us there again.

Came across this restaurant whilst walking the streets. As we are going to Portorosa this year thought it would be fun to try it. Brilliant, great food, great staff and very attentive. I had the chilli mussels and they were succulent and the white wine sauce was amazing. We even tried the Sicilian red wine. This restaurant and our choice of food did not disappoint.

We had a nice meal, although portion sizes were a bit small..good staff and good service, although when it got busy we had to shout at each other to be heard..
Aneta Bacich
The best gnocchi with prawns with creamy garlic parmesan sauce. Omg the flavours were to die for!! Simply Devine . Highly recommended

Fabulous experience on Monday night. Table of 8 of us who all loved our chosen dish, including the chef in our group who can be critical at times. Friendly staff too.. Thank you

My husband and I have been having weekly date nights here for several months. Portorosa has a lovely atmosphere, exemplary service and fabulous staff. The food is amazing and very good value for money. They even cook a dish for me that I love even though it's no longer on the menu; and have gone out of their way to ensure our favourite wine is on hand.

Best authentic Italian food i have eaten in ages besides my Mum's. I am from Sydney visiting my daughter with my hubby and had the best meal. Grazie x

Good food & lovely staff, pizza oven is always a good seller for the restaurant, pizzas were superb please stay true and always make them fresh as you do. Wine was so good I bought a bottle; love your work & being true Italians 👍🏽🍷

Wow what can I say. I went here yesterday with my boyfriend for lunch and was blown away. The food is to die for and fresh and so yum. The customer service was outstanding. I will definitely be back. Was super impressed and Iam really fussy xxx

The service and attention from staff was great .Food excellent would recommend to anyone .

Waited a while for the food... but the waitress addressed us before it was an issue. Offered us free drinks for the wait. Appreciated that... food was beautiful. Will go back for sure.
Craig Windebank
Great food, good location and excellent service from the staff, combined to make for a very enjoyable night out.
Sean McCarron
Done a Monday night dinner. Few people there so plenty of attention from the lovely staff. Food was delish and price was reasonable.
Amber Murray
I just had my uber eats order from Pinterest delivered... The $9 steamed vegetables were about a quarter of a small take away container! Seriously! I will not be returning!

Looks like this restaurant has moved from its previous location one door up. I was surprised at the previous reviews as after we ordered food came out less that 10 minutes later and was delicious and fresh. The service was amazing and would highly recommend. Maybe they have changed ownership or improved considerably since last reviews a few months ago.

Came here with a group of friends and it was pretty hit and miss - my food and coffee was luke warm and my tortellini was very bland. In front of customers heard a couple of employees being rude to other employees which we believe was pretty disgusting especially when we were paying at the end. Felt sorry for the poor girls. Wouldn’t go here again

Pizza was good, although not mind blowing. Was very quiet and took forever to get our 2 pizzas.<br/><br/>Oh and then was charged public holiday surcharge when it wasn't a public holiday.<br/><br/>So first impressions not the best. I may give them another go though if I'm hungry

Love this place right in the centre of Freo! We had the pasta fresca special and it was delicious, you can definitely taste that it is fresh. My husband had the lamb shank and it was so tender. The service is friendly, we will be back again!
Mango The Froot
This place is definitely on the pricier side for me but with the fresh seafood that they whip out in their foods, I'm all down for it. It is seriously the finest seafood I've ever had in my pasta, so much that I can taste the ocean flavours in them. Had the marinara and previously the Portorosa spaghetti. Was brilliant, tho I prefer the portorosa spaghetti over the other. The pizza is also good. The server was very friendly and we were very happy with our foods and the vibe the entire restaurant gave. Would come back again (if I have the $$$)!
Melburnianlaura
Looks like your pretty stock standard informal Italian restaurant, except that they have really fresh seafood which was delicious. It was mid-week and absolutely dead, so there was no atmosphere. The waiter didn't seem particularly keen on giving us a bit of entertainment either haha as I was trying to talk to her and getting nothing back. Oh well. I had the spaghetti portorosa, was delicious.

We visited Easter Sunday for dinner. <br/>The spinach and ricotta tortellini was nice, though I opted for a nepolienta sauce over the creamy mushroom. The filling was a bit scarce, but serving size was good. The gnocchi with prawns and a creamy Gorgonzola sauce didn't skimp on the prawns for a nice change. However, the gnocchi was swimming in the sauce which was too much for my mum, and she couldn't finish. My sister's chicken parmigiana was delicious- well crumbed and generously topped with cheese, it was the favourite of the night. The chips it was served with weren't quite crisp enough, but still good.<br/>The wedges we got to share were amazing- crisp and perfectly salted, they were thoroughly enjoyed.<br/><br/>One let down was the service. After asking for two more minutes for my sister to make up her mind, we then had to wait twenty before someone came to take our order. The food was then slow in coming, with tables who'd arrived after us getting their food before and a table who'd been seated before us getting their food after. Whilst it was busy, it wasn't overly full or teeming with customers- it was another forty minutes until we got our food.<br/><br/>Overall, averagely priced Italian for average food. Nothing special, but no reason to avoid it either (unless you were hoping for a quick dinner)

We had a wonderful lunch for 20+family today. The food and service were excellent. Thoroughly recommend for authentic Italian food. Staff were top notch and the food superb. The calamari, saltimbocca and pizza was perfect. High recommendation.

After mulling around Fremantle my wife and I took a shot at Portorosa having not been to a new place u are always hesitant.<br/>We settled on the seafood platter for one (which fed us both) the scallops, prawns, chilli muscles and squid were superb along with a antipasto platter.<br/>If your after genuine hearty non gimmicky food that delivers on taste and portion size I suggest Portorosa you can't go wrong! <br/>
Inna Tevi
I loved thin pizza with crunchy edges there. <br/>Service is attentive and I have no complaints. <br/><br/>I am confused when people say 'good restaurant, everything was great' and they give only 3-4 stars. Here is your 5 for the pizza ! :) <br/>Will be back
Truth Be Told Australia
This is a family favourite of us when we go to Fremantle. Really good old fashion service, friendly too. We love the pasta dishes, spaghetti Marinara, and Penne Allarrabbiata is a hit with our kids. Portion sizes are pretty big and good value for money. The trip to the Toilet is a bit dodgy out the back and could be freshen up , besides that a great restaurant that you will walk away very content 👍🏻

The service at Portorosa is good. Had lunch with my brother. I had the crab linguine while my brother had the seafood marinara. Food was average and tasty. Had a tiramisu which was pretty good. Had a lovely afternoon here.

Ordered 6 oysters kilpatrick, chicken caesar salad and veal parmigiana with spaghetti bolognese for dinner. Food was very average, especially for the price and the fact that the restaurant is surrounded by many decent Italian restaurants in Fremantle. The oysters were really small, the salad was average and the spaghetti that came with the parmigiana tasted mostly of tomato paste and didn't come with a lot of mince. The service was fine, nothing special. Wouldn't recommend eating here for dinner over the many restaurants available in Fremantle and around the cafe strip. Was not impressed with the food for the price we paid ($71 total).

My brother and I came here for lunch after my go to place was closed. It was a Thursday and the place was not too busy so easy to find a table out on the verandah. The friendly waitress gave us the menus and water. I decided on the Gnocchi with prawns and a glass of white wine and my brother, the seafood risotto and a juice. Drinks came out quickly. Love the views from here now that the road has been closed and changed into a walkway. The food arrived looking and smelling wonderful. We were offered cracked pepper and cheese. My gnocchi were perfect and loved it with the prawns; simple but wonderful dish! My brother loved his risotto too. Wonderful food with friendly service; will be back.
Cassie
Dishes here are quite expensive. I ordered the pollo marino which was chicken breast with a couple of prawns in a creamy sauce with mashed potato and vegetables. My dish was okay but there was nothing spectacular about it.
Foodie In Paradise
Went to this restaurant for the first time for a friend's birthday dinner. We ordered the garlic breads, spaghetti portorosa, fettuccine alla carbonara, chilli mussels and the chicken pizza. <br/>It took almost an hour for the food to arrive. The chilli mussels was very bland. The spaghetti portorosa was flavorsome but far too oily, basicly the pasta was covered with lot of oil. The seafood that came with the spaghetti was very fresh though. The fettuccine carbonara was very yummy; the sauce was thick and creamy. The pizza was very tasty which I totally forgot to take a picture. <br/>Service at this restaurant was very attentive and friendly. Love the fact that there have a good selection of wine. <br/>

Had an amazing meal at the new Portorosa in Spearwood last night. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was beautiful. I had the eye fillet cooked to perfection for my main. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Will definitely be back. The service was also excellent by the friendly blonde girl with the lovely nails. This is a five star experience, thanks to all!

Risotto was a major let down! basically rice with one prawn and a few pieces of fish. no real flavor, lacked the buttery, creamy wine flavor and texture that it should have. My co-dinners got various pasta and pizza dishes which looked good. I give points because there was pecan pie, and it was pretty good. expensive place for the quality received.
Alannah Conley
Quite a disappointing meal! My partner & I were hungry & looking forward to a nice meal. <br/>For $28 my tortellini was flavourless and a small portion. My partner ordered the special, baby goat for $30 which was also a small serve & full of small bones. Each bite he took we was having to spit out bones. Service was ok, food not.
Lin
45 minutes for a pizza. In a mostly empty restaurant after the lunch rush. No apology just told the chef was busy. Would have been sympathetic if we hadn't sat and watched people who ordered after us receive theirs. A simple 'sorry we missed it' and I wouldn't have minded. After sitting for 45 minutes in this unairconditioned hot box we couldn't eat the pizza, or the wilted salad or the pasta which had clearly been sitting on the pass in the kitchen for most of the 45 minutes. So many other options in this area - leave this one well alone.
Louise Ellery
Food was pretty average, my fettuccine carbonara was swimming in oil and my partners vodka penne was bland with super dry pieces of chicken. For $25 each dish and $7 for a few bits of garlic bread I expected a bit better. We both had to add a few heaped spoonfuls of parmesan and salt. They weren't very busy as it was late but it took a good while for our meals to come out even though no one else in the restaurant was waiting for their food. Pretty disappointing as my partner said it used to be fantastic and raved about how good the pasta was.
CB
Friendly waitress - had eggplant parmigiana for entree to share - gnocchi with brandy /tomato sauce with a prawn - Saltimbocca - very rich and tasty $91 with drinks and garlic bread .
DforDee
Average service. Lost a point for slow service. But food's good. Totally forgot to take pics before we started eating. We were too hungry lol.. Had the crab linguine and deep fried calamari w/ chips & salad.

Arrived with a large group in a quiet restaurant. Drinks orders were taken and didn't arrive for 15 minutes. If it was busy I could understand but it wasn't. It was very unorganised and not professional at all. The meals were nice but took 50 minutes before they started coming out. Glad I wasn't there during a busy period.
Lorraine Michelle
Sam was an amazing waiter who served us the most tasty food in the menu. Steak burger, chicken breast mains, pork belly and spaghetti bolognese - check. Thanks Portorosa.
Bree
Every dish we've ordered at Portorosa has been faultless! It's one of my favourite go-to-places on nights that I'm craving Italian food. Recommend - prawn gnocchi, pollo alla genovese, & penne vodka.
The Gaz N Laz
OMG I think we died and went to Italian cuisine heaven. Crab linguini was just stunning. Spaghetti portorosa was just as good. The night could not have been any nicer at all. 10/10

Amazing food and amazing service !. Absolutely increadible seafood! Outstanding pasta and pizza! And the most friendly and caring staff! this place is defiantly one to try! love it!

Incredibly excellent . Excellent meal with an excellent Italian wine from an excellent restaurant. Thumbs up to all the staff of Portorosa. 

From worse to bad. Dined in for mother's day. After an unacceptable long wait mum's meal was so badly cooked that mum only ate the salad. The manger only took half the price off the bill........ And we were going there regularly...... I'm afraid greed has taken customers off their books.. ... Oh well.... There's plenty of restaurants around :-)
Emily Dyer
Dined tonight on a scoop one, lovely staff and great location however let down by the food, burnt garlic bread tasteless arancini and by far the worst chilli mussels I have ever tasted, no hint of chilli which I had asked to be extra hot chilli and basically tasted like the base of a margarita pizza poured over mussels which is a real shame as there were loads of good mussels, also the free glass of wine was about a third full of a small wine glass the place could be great with the nice staff but the kitchen lets them down massively
The-wife
We had a beautiful meal here today using scoopon . Friendly staff , prompt service . Our food was piping hot and delicious .
Kevlouwatson
Lovely meal and very good service. Not sure what all the griping is about with the scoopon deal, but we had a great meal with fab service. The waitress couldn't have been nicer and we were able to make slight alterations to our mains. Great spot for people watching and we will go back again
Kristal
Very average. Soggy aracini, tasteless mains, undercooked chips, unimpressive wine and expensive soft drinks. Won't be back.
Emma Nici
Walked in to Portorosa & asked for a table for 4. Lady said 'no problem' as the restaurant was very empty. Sat down, told them we had a scoopon & they said 'oh no sorry, only can use scoopon on availability'. Was then told I can only buy normal meals or I can book it for 6 weeks away. Scoopon deal expires soon - what a cheeky joke!
Tam
I been for dinner yesterday and I have perches the scoopon for 4 people... It was not the perfect choice, the owner and the lady from the booking look at us like we are eating for free and they talk in front of us why we getting so much food, they didn't look professional .Very bad experience, food it was nice but not for Freo standards , the girl how served us she was the best. <br/>They must change they attitude and be more happy to se people in they restaurant.
Myraoudendijk
The best crab linguini!. Never had such a FABULOUS TASTY crab linguini! Great flavours! Service from our waiter was TOP NOTCH plus very reasonable priced. A truly amazing dining experience!

Rude service, wilted salad, pizza was ok. Went here today with kids. One kids spag bol came out in 5 minutes, then pizzas came out in 30 minutes. After we had finished the pizzas, out came the salad. Waitress apologised for salad being so late, as chef had made it and put it in the fridge and then forgotten about it. Well I think he remembered one he put in there yesterday, as the lettuce was all soggy and wilted. It was inedible. We eat out a lot, and send back probably one dish every 2 years, but this salad was inedible. It was taken away, and then the manager came out to tell us it was all fresh. It was left on the bill. We also asked for no herbs on the Margarita pizza, and there were herbs put on it. Never going back.
DJ
A good basic place. Went here for a family meal on quite a busy Sunday. Service was really good right from the start and we were looked after well during our visit. The food was a bit hit and miss. A pasta and pizza were good basic dishes and the servings were very generous and the bread they served was great. We the ordered one of the specials. It was a great idea for a dish and all the elements were there, but the meat of the dish just did not taste fresh.<br/><br/>All in all it was a good meal, but I'm not sure there is anything to set it apart from the other similar restaurants nearby.

Raging!. Myself and my partner said we would try this restaurant and got a seat out front. The waiter eventually took our order of bruschetta and a meat lovers pizza. 55 minutes passed and everyone who came in and ordered after us were served their meals. I called the waiter who was too busy fawning over a family beside us and asked where was our order was.He ran off like a headless chicken and came back stating there had been a fault with the computer and our order never went through- when he had never placed the order in the first place!!!!. We were offered no apology and walked out . Absolute joke
Lizandnorm
Hill Billy. Have twice dined in this restaurant and ordered the crab linguine. Twice served spaghetti not linguine. It would be nice if the waiter explained that they had run out of linguine on the first occasion but served again with no explanation. Sorry, not acceptable. Will go back to dining next door.
Gbjbfamily
Disappointed. Our family has enjoyed this restaurant many times, until now. It is one of the worst meals my wife and I have had from a restaurant. The seafood platter is tiny. The 2 prawns were way over cooked as tough as leather, the prawns were still in the full shell and dripping in oil so you get very messy, the squid had no flavour and very tough. The mussells tasted like baked bean sauce. Very disappointing as it is exspensive to take a family of four out now and then and be served food that I would not even serve at my home.
JellyBean
Disappointing. We used to love this place, but the quality has definitely gone down hill.... The fritti calamari was disgusting. It was tiny little deep fried squid rings, something that you would buy from the freezer section at woollies... Very embarrassing as we recommended that dish to our guests visiting from Sydney.... It used to be real squid lightly battered... Such a shame, won't be going back :(
Sue.brown330
Not impressed. We inadvertently sat in this restaurant instead of the one next door, but decided to stay and give it a go, despite our previously disappointing meal at Portorosa a couple of years ago. Sadly it was disappointing again. The seafood pizza had barely any seafood on it. 1 slice had not one piece of seafood, and the others were very sparse. The Caesar salad at $23 was more an entrée size. Needless to say we will pay more attention to where we park ourselves next time
Sandy
Probably best value in Freo. Am catching up on my reviews as I try to remember to praise the good as much as give feedback to the bad. We live in Freo and are constantly building and rebuilding our list of favourite places based on value for money. We've been dining at Portarose for about 2 months now and usually mid week when it's quieter. I have to say compared to other restaurants close by Portarosa delivers great value for price, quality and service. My hubby and I prefer to sit out front so we can watch the world go by. For the life of us we can't understand why people walk by Portarosa - give it a go - it's great.
Robyn
Very satisfied, will certainly be returning!. Great atmosphere, amazing staff are attentive and efficient. Food is to die for. What more can I say, you must try this place next time you go to Freo!

A Real Italian Taste. Lovely atmosphere with great friendly staff and nice spot.. Meals portion is very generous and prices are reasonable. Highly recommended, with family or friends. Try to save a room for the dessert (Yummy home made Brulee and Tiramisu), and don't miss the sours or martinis, just ask your waiter.. Its is simply real Italian food made with Love.. Will definitely visit again.

Fremantle's a tourist trap, so repeat business isn't really a thing here. To be fair, this was an above average meal for us when compared to most other places in Perth. In other words, the garlic bread was burnt, the veal was tough, the chicken dry, and the soup was tepid, and the noise in the place meant you had to shout to be heard across the table. At least the front of house staff were efficient and affable, the pasta dishes ok, and the prices not too bad.
Acutreat
Rude and disgusting. I had a most embarrassing experience dinning at this restaurant with my wife. Being a learner of the Italian language, I asked a waitress for a menu in Italian. She virtually shouted at me in front of other diners " Don't you even try !! I am not an Italian and I do not speak Italian" in the most rude manner. I nearly walked out but not to embarrass my wife, I stayed and did not enjoy the food at all.

Things have changed. I have been to portorosa before and had lovely pizzas and pasta dishes but today things werent the same. me and a friend ordered spaghetti bolognese and lasagne.. my spaghetti bolognese pasta sauce was heavy and the pasta seemed like glue stuck together. my friends lasagne she said "tasted only like cheese". After having asked for balsamic dressing I received oil only. the waiters were polite , drinks came out quick except for the fact that we felt constantly watched for when we were going to finish. Hope they go back to how they were
Jonno
Our table had gnocchi, lasagna and lamb rack. The worse gnocchi, worse lasagna, worse lamb rack I have eaten in a long time. Gnocchi had too much tomato sauce, lamb was way undercooked, lasagna was drowning in cheese. Noisy place and over-priced.
Thecoffeemaker
If you wanna wait for ages this is the place for you. We waited for 45 mins for our food to be served and some of them were already cold. We just wanted to eat so we didn't complain. The food is ok but to pay $210 without drinks for 7 people and to wait 45 mins for it to be served, it's very disappointing. We should've eaten at the food court at the market. Portorosa is just not worth it. Sorry. Just saying. That's my experience tho. Urs might be different. The staff ate nice it's just the quality of food that scored a fail.
Edibee
I always feel bad when it comes to rating a restaurant poorly. But, my boyfriend and I came here for my birthday lunch, and it ruined my day. The waitress who served us - who must be a wife or friend of a worker here, because I'm unsure who else would hire her as a waitress - was rude, unprofessional and insulting. We asked her two or three basic questions, each time she laughed and answered as though we had no right to ask her a thing. The ambience is cold, the floor is dirty, and I'm so appalled by the handling of the staff. Do yourself a favour, don't give these people your money. So many beautiful, decently priced Italian restaurants nearby that you would rather go to. Plus, they didn't have a ravioli which is what we came for - because of the service, we decided to get an entree (which we regretted) and we left.

50/50 at best. After walking past this restaurant many times I decided to take my fiancé there for a romantic dinner. The restaurant was absolutely packed and we couldn't hear each other speak not to mention we were crammed into a corner surrounded by overly loud people but we were served quickly and out entrees were amazing.<br/><br/>My partner ordered the penne vodka and I ordered the house special Portorosa pasta. The penne vodka was amazing and I could in no way fault the quality or the quantity however my dish not only lacked any sought of flavour (or sauce) but no care was taken to debeard the muscles which meant that I had to do this at the table.<br/><br/>Overall I was not impressed with my dish although my fiancé left happy. I will go back to La Porchetta next time as I have never been able to fault their service
Kimberley
Went here for an anniversary dinner. Place isn't super posh but is a nice environment. Waitresses were super friendly and welcoming. Food was good price and pretty big serves. Was a busy night and still didn't have to wait long for our orders to come out. Right in the centre of Fremantle, close to movies and pubs. Definitely recommend to everyone I know and will be returning.

Love this place!!. Amazing food, generous servings and friendly and attentive staff. This cafe/restuarant is not the place for a fancy night out but if you are looking for a good honest meal with great service this is the place to go, great flavour and speedy receipt of our orders and a lovely friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend.

Friendly and efficient service. Food was great and very generous portions. Would go back :-)

Delicious. Fish linguine and crayfish on special was yummm

Coffee and kitchen need co-ordinating. Called in for first time to have coffee and cake. Coffee came, no sign of cake. Reminded counter staff about cake; waited further. Cake came 10-15 minutes after coffee. Complaint to server greeted with 'attitude', i.e. raised eyebrows. Refund given on request. Really, service co-ordination has to be better than this!

Too noisy to enjoy. Took the family, four teenagers and hubby out for celebratory dinner on recommendation from friends and Urbanspoon. Booked several days ahead asked for a nice table at front of restaurant. Arrived, given the worst table in the middle of a noisy eatery. Food was ok, pricey but timely. Hubby's special crispy pork belly I wanted to send back to the kitchen as it was not crispy, rubbery and just two hunks of pork belly fat on rocket...very unappetising. My saltimbocca was nice but the mash and veg consisted of 1/2 cup of mash, three carrot slivers and two green beans...seriously!!! I was hungry...not a good serving size. We couldn't wait to leave. For family dinners avoid....

Tasty meal. We had yummy arancini to share for entrees. hubby had fettuccine carbonara (a huge serving he could not finish), I had saltinbocca. Both meals were pleasant and service was good.

Unhappy. Went for a meal last night shown to a table there after that ignored (not like they were busy we were the only two inside a few tables outside occupied) for fifteen minutes got up and left. Maybe it has had a change of management as have been going there for years always had excellent service and food.

Went to the portarosa for dinner with my wife because sandrinos was full and thought let's give the the pork belly with scallops special and the fish of the day (barramundi) for my wife. firstly my wife only got half a glass of wine for $9 when I said to the waitress did someone have a drink out of it I just got a weird look. Secondly pork belly was rubbery with an 1"1/2 of fat and 1/4" meat that tasted weird with a price that was a joke for a dish like this. Now the fish which was the size of a mans palm and was just mush served with mcains frozen chips the salad consisted of 1/2 a cherry tomatoe 1 slice of cucumber and hand full mixed lettuce leaves now the kicker was when we payed finding out that the fish was $41 which was not written on the specials board, now I've had 2 lamb shanks served with steamed veges and mash for $16.50 at the caulfeild tavern which was awesome. I would never recommend or go back to this Italian restaurant EVER again

Food was average, nothing great. Big portions but the lamb rack dishes were fatty and one of them came out very raw (let's hope no one got sick from that!), crab linguine was a bit bland, I think too much linguine and not enough sauce. Service was friendly but not attentive, you seem to have to capture their attention before they come over. Nothing was offered except water while waiting 20mins for friends to arrive. Could've asked if we want to order other drinks. When we were ready to order, we had to look for the waiter. When the mains came, we weren't offered cracked pepper, had to ask again. After mains, the waiter dropped dessert menus on our table but never came back to see if we wanted to order any. Had to call waiter again for the bill. Then when we walked out, we noticed they had specials which we were not told about!! That was disappointing!

Very good. 3 of us went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night. We booked ahead but there wasn't a queue when we arrived anyway.<br/><br/>First table they took us to was under an aircon vent, but we asked to move and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Ended up on a nice table outside, on a lovely night.<br/><br/>Food was excellent, garlic bread was very good, the wine list is quite decent, mains cost a bit more ~$22-26 but in all honesty they are WORTH IT. This restaurant doesn't suffer the big plates small meals affliction. These were big plates with big servings. In fact my other two diners were unable to finish theirs. We all had pasta, and it was very fresh pasta, tasted like it was made that day. 3 dishes, spaghetti bol, crab linguine, spaghetti portorosa (seafood). All of these were 8-9 out of 10.<br/><br/>Highly recommended.

Seafood wins every time. Never had a bad meal here. Looks like your typical Italian restaurant from the front but the seafood never disappoints! My favourite is the misto mare but the seafood pastas are also delicious. Great serving size and willing to alter the meal to cater to your preferences. Thank you

Went today for lunch and it was the worst steak I have ever eaten, oily with a weird taste. It was very disappointing. ....

Where did it all go so wrong? So my partner has ordered the gnocchi and I the surf and turf. Standard dishes offered by most restaurants. I'm not Italian and definitely don't claim to be an expect on Italian cuisine, however, pretty sure gnocchi is supposed to be little pillows of pasta and not 3cm long potato sausages? Onto the surf and turf, why ask me how I want my steak when it automatically comes out well done? (I did ask for rare to put the story straight). <br/>To say disappointing would be an understatement. Unfortunately after suffering bad Italian years ago, I have been turned off the cuisine in general but iI thought I would give it ago tonight, another disappointment. Sorry but neveragain

Not one to normally rate a restaurant but my crab linguine was 10/10, fantastic..!

Terrible Food, Poor Service. Inviting decor, rest of the experience was terrible. Both pasta dishes were crazy salty, I made the mistake of soldiering half way through mine and ended up with burning, cracked lips and burning indigestion for hours. Even through the salt, the seafood was obviously not very fresh. One person's food came out so far after the rest that most folks were finished. Trying to get the attention of a server was impossible.

Disappointed to say the least, staff was rude food below average and prices too high.

Blah Blah Blah. We usually eat at Sandrino's next door but thought we'd try Portorosa. <br/><br/>PRO'S<br/><br/>- Service was excellent<br/>- Shared Wood fired pizza very nice<br/><br/>CON's<br/><br/>- Other food was just ok tasting.( We had seafood Risotto and Morton Bay Bug pasta.<br/>- Service sizes were smallish.<br/>- Prices were a little pricey for what you get.<br/><br/>Would I return???.....only if Sandrino's was full.........!!!!

Yumm!!. A beautiful dish that was full of flavour and body. Every meal that passed my table made me want to come back to try more. Lovely night, great food.

Would not go back. Dinner for four on a Wednesday evening, restaurant not busy so lots of staff and chefs to get things right. <br/>Ordered antipasto which was nice, clean fresh meats, cheeses and the bits & pieces with three slices of nice bread.<br/>Mains were yuk, for all four of us. I asked for the lamb and rare, this came out four fatty soggy lamb cutlets, not French but non consistent size, white fat which still tasted cool temperature and meat was not browned in any way, I asked to have it seared at least. The waitress did this but I could only eat the meat which meant I paid for about three mouthfuls of actual food, the fat was left on my plate, hopefully the chef took a look and it registered that they may need to provide better lamb. The other mains were crumbed veal which was crumbed all right but also soggy! Misto mare was ok. Two of us didn't feel so good the next day....do you know what I mean? Expensive for the quality, wouldn't let our ES guest drink his beer , they didn't have his preferred but said a $6 corkage per tin. No go from all of us.

Disappointing. we went to portorosa for dinner last night, upon entering we were left standing at the door, while we were ignored by the wait staff, one even asked us to move out of the way, eventually I grabbed one of the staff who was standing around doing nothing, and asked if we could have a table, only after that we were finally sat down. we were then left sitting there for 30minutes, withnot even an offer of water or drinks, although many staff kept coming outside and standing at the door, but were completely oblivious to the customers waiting to order, eventually I had to grab a waitstaff again and ask for water and to order, we ordered the lamb rack, the tortellini and a bowl of chips, finnaly after sitting there for 45mins our water and drinks arrived, although the beers were incorrect and had to be returned, we recieved our tortellini and lamb but no chips, so I asked a waitstaff about the chips, he said he'd check, and walked away never to return, so I asked a second waitstaff, who also walked away and never returned, a quick sorry we forgot them but we are making you some now would of been nice, the chips finnaly arrived when we had almost finnished our meals, and plonked down on the table, no apology was given, the lamb was slightly overcooked but pretty good, the tortellini was nice but the cream sauce was split, the chips were really bad quality, our meals were cleared, no offer of dessert or coffee, (we decided it was probably better to go somewhere else anyway) we will not be returning to portorosa, the food was ok, but nothing special atall, and the service which is a very important part of the whole dining experience was 'lame' and unprofessional, very disappointing

Awesome food. Gluten free options and fresh seafood at a reasonable price. My partner and I had a wonderful dinner here. After walking around Fremantle for over an hour looking for a place with gluten free options we finally found this lovely restaurant that served gluten free pasta. We were surprised to find that other restaurants in the area didn't have this as part of their menu. Service was great and staff were friendly, consistently checking to make sure we were happy with our food. Would recommend this place to others and if in the area again we will certainly make this part of our trip. Worth a visit!

Favourite place! Tried nearly everything on the menu and everything has been fresh and tasty! The chilli mussels are fantastic! They are prompt with their service and always friendly. A definite must if u are in freo. And San churros is just next door!!

Great Dinner. Visited on Friday night with a group of 7. <br/>Service was attentive and friendly (unlike a lot of Fremantle restaurants) <br/>Food was great especially the Misto Mare seafood plate, perfectly cooked seafood. Was a bit of a wait for the main meals but worth the wait.<br/>All round a very nice casual restaurant.

Really good Italian restaurant. This is really a very good restaurant.I had the calamari which was really tender and cooked perfectly husband had pizza which he was very happy with. Service was good not overbearing which we prefer . I don't normally write about restaurants but felt it deserved to be acknowledged for being really well priced but more importantly good food to match.

The food at this restaurant is always perfectly cooked. The Pizza's, Pasta and Seafood will never dissapoint. The staff here offer excellent service and I am always happy to come back. Back again today 31-1-2016 and food is still as good as always.

Surprisingly Good. Went with a couple of mates into Fremantle for lunch before heading to Cottesloe for some sun and beers. Sandrinos was the chosen location, however 1 of the fellas recommended the Misto Mare at Portorosa. Never having eaten there before, if the food was bad, then drinks were free all afternoon for the rest of us! The Misto Mare arrived, pretty much a seafood platter for 1. Prawns, Squid, Fish, Muscles, Chips and Salad were all included with the Squid being the highlight. This dish was massive and for $38 was well worth the price! Looks like Sandrino will be missing a customer for a little while longer. Looking forward to dining there again soon. Until next time ... 8/10.

Avoid the minestrone. Despite advising the staff that it was inedible we were still charged for it. Was nothing more than a bowl of hot water and salty butter with veg (broccoli, cauli, snow peas, carrot, celery and brown and spring onion). No flavour, no stock, dreadful. Was yellow colored and all the butter could be seen floating on top. Kids pizza was large but kids fish was small in comparison. Other dishes were ok and kids menu has a lot of choice.

Sat outside on a balmy evening and sad served promptly by a friendly waiter. Ordered scalloppini al funghi, minestrone soup and rib eye steak. Lovely meal and my request for salad instead of veggies was no problem. Steal cooked beautifully. Soup was fresh with crisp veggies (not really minestrone but lovely nonetheless. Will return to Portorosa. Recommended.

I had the spaghetti marinara, it was fantastic, cooked perfect and nice flavours. I asked for a little chilli to be added as I like some spice, was balanced well. Will come back.

The food is average, had the pasta carbonara. the spaghetti is not homemade! the flavours were good though. Had to wait for the food 60 min. Didn't get the food at the same time as my wife. Nothing special. Nice location in Freo.

Best seafood platter I've had in a while. I've been having a hankering for a seafood platter for a while. The last attempt at getting a good one was a dismal failure (measly servings at inflated prices).<br/><br/>This was definitely not the case at Portorosa - $38 for a generous pile of seafood, chips and salad! And what delicious grilled seafood: fish, mussels, squid, prawns and scallops!<br/><br/>I will definitely be back for more!
Mfm86
Friendly service, large serves and well priced. Was especially impressed with the amount of seafood on the spaghetti portarosa.

I might go again, maybe.. Very mixed feelings about this place:<br/>Half of us weren't even given cutlery. The waiter got my order completely wrong, and bought another person somebody else's meal. I thought that was pretty unacceptable considering they weren't busy at all. I think some thing was lost in translation.<br/>I ordered a steak sandwich (it was lunch time and i had italian for dinner the night before). Whatever you do, DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. <br/>Just stick with the traditional stuff. Everyone else's food seemed good. Their pizzas are fantastic.

Great family restaurant. Never been let down eating here. The kitchen standard of quality seems to be pretty high. Fantastic pasta and the pizzas are amazing, however don't be afraid to venture into meat territory. Great veal dishes, great steaks and a good rack of lamb
Lucky Bags
Spectacularly Average. The thing about Portorosa that I find most strange is the prices. $20 for an antipasto platter consisting mostly of cos lettuce, a teaspoon of olives, a few cubes of cheese, a few rolls of ham and spot of pickled eggplant is just bizarre. <br/><br/>Although the food isn't terrible, it isn't great. The pork belly was overcooked and rubbery and accompanied with a side of Rosella pickle paste. The pastas and risottos just look like ordinary family-restaurant fare.<br/><br/>The service is efficient, but not friendly. <br/><br/>I'm not sure I'd be back in a rush.

Didn't even get in the door. My boyfriend and I were walking through Freo after a work function and we went to look at Portorosa, we stepped inside to have a look around at a menu before a woman came charging at us waving her arms going 'No!, no!'<br/>We thought she was refusing us service! she then said 'closed' and waved her arms some more.<br/><br/>What an extremely rude way to tell somebody that they are closed (plenty of people were still dining within) <br/><br/>Needless to say, I won't attempt to even try Portorosa now.
Signore Cottolette
Great service. Service was faultless, food was good. Had the capretto special which came with medeteranian grilled veggies - something different. Menu is pretty standard for those that like the stock standard favorites. Average price and serving size

Good food. Food is good. we had wood fired pizza. like it

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Perth. The food is always of a high standard, the prices are great and the staff are friendly. I always order the marinara because they provide a generous serving of seafood and the sauce is tasty. This is a definite crowd pleaser.
Purplegunn
Always good. Best place in Freo for a Friday lunch. Food always good and reasonably priced, service is attentive and friendly and wine lovely and cold. Been going here for ages and will continue to go.

Disappointing Italian Fare. Took my kids to Portorosa today. Have tried to like this restaurant on three previous occasions. Pork belly special was a rubbery, salt laden blackboard erasor. Pasta is, I suspect, pre cooked and reheated. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. A couple on the next table were trying to interchange patsa and sauce from the menu yet told no, pre prepared. My son enjoyed the chicken. Found the service from the elder waitress condescending and dismissive. The girl on a working visa was lovely. Really want to like this place but give up.
