Review Gino's - Fremantle

Connor Df
Gino's is a very good restaurant. I ate some of their Eggs Benedict and it was wonderful and some freshly squeezed Orange Juice. The eggs were a little cold, however, it was still a great meal.

Parked on Essex St. Short stroll to lovely Gino's. Fast friendly service and the food was delicious. We both had Chicken in creamy mushroom sauce, fries and Salad. Sat and watched the world go by. Wonderful.

You have to wait at the counter for your coffee, & a cheesecake with no cream (I had to ask for it & then it was sprayed out of a can), no garnish of mint, kiwifruit or even a dash of passion fruit. Taste was consistently bland from the no-butter base to the stodgy, almost doughy filling unredeemed by any hint of true creaminess, vanilla, lemon or other zesty counterbalance. Couldn't finish the very large serve, although what I managed to eat left a heavy feeling in the stomach over an hour later. Surroundings inside & out, ordinary. However, service at the counter was friendly.

Meals that Nonna would approve of! Our go to restaurant when in Freo. The meals are always excellent, served in quick time and the staff are always happy and accommodating! We would recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy a delicious Italian meal.

This is the worse iced coffee I’d ever. It’s the first time see iced coffee with ice cream inside use this kind of cup. I said twice, they still gave me iced chocolate. The staff looks like drunk as well. Never never go again, will tell all my friends as well.

Gorgeous food, friendly staff. I had Gamberi Sambucca and I will definately have it again. Absolutely DEVINE.

What can I say? When I finally got served I guessed that the waitress was new as it took over 10 minutes to take a simple order. I am a support worker and I asked for a takeaway cup as my copes better with this. I did two seperate orders and then the waitress had to explain this to the manager. Everything I seemed to ask for seemed " To hard". I paid and she walked off while I was paying so the receipt came through and I took it. There was a lot more that happened. I will Never eat there again.

SERVICE WITH A SCOWL. I'd rate them 4 for food quality & atmosphere but they seem to hire staff who never smile, scowl a lot & are downright rude when you ask simple questions. I' m talking about those serving coffee in particular, although some table waiters aren't much better.

Best Chilli Mussels in Perth! I’m a Freo local & fully vouch for Gino’s. Love the atmosphere, the view looking onto Freo’s historical coffee strip. Reading through the other reviews; it should be noted that all drinks (including coffees/teas) must be ordered at the bar - the main counter is for ordering meals (with drinks) are to be ordered at the main counter. Never had a issue; friendly staff, delicious food and great view.

Couldn’t recommend Gino’s any more. Thanks to the staff & cooks.

Honestly, We have just been released from the COVIDS Lockdown, first day that we have been able to sit in a cafe and have a coffee, what do we get? Staff with a seriously bad attitude.
No arguments or anything, we just felt like we were disturbing their holiday / time off on Jobkeeper allowance, they were just not interested in being courteous or helpful.
Coffee was not that good and the cannoli were stale, sorry I could not give them a zero rating. No hate here just seriously disappointed, first day back failure.

20yrs when we lived in Freo, this was my go-to cafe. Friendly staff, efficient service, excellent coffee. But how times have changed!
Three of us went to Gino's tonight for a pre-dinner cuppa. The nice man at the food register moved us along to the other end of the bar and said we could place our orders there and the staff would make them while we waited. Sounded like a good plan.
Only the staff never turned up. Don't get me wrong -- there were plenty of employees on the floor tonight, just none of them could be bothered acknowledging or serving us. Not even a polite "sorry for the delay"... and we were the only ones waiting!
So we decided not to wait any longer, and walked out.
In a city where good cafes are a dime a dozen, Gino's will have to do a lot more than just rest on their reputation and longevity. Lost me for good.

I often go here for a cup of tea and to watch people go around in Fremantle.. very nice place and good food, the only thing is some of the staff are not friendly and seemed to be disturbed when you go and order something.
Mr G
My partner and I had a couple of risotto dishes and the food quality was OK however not very good value. Quite expensive for what you get. The staff furthermore were quite arrogant and service levels very poor. The only positive however is their coffees
are on point and the location and history of the establishment. Please pick up your game and cut the attitude.

I love the interior design, the frames all over the wall, the many small tables across both interior rooms and outdoor area too. It is so packed and thus you feel this somewhat busy atmosphere where people talked to each other so excitedly! The staffs are super friendly, and attentive too may I add. It’s really ideal for catch-up or one-two-one meetings.

Food wise - it is average tho. You got what you expect. Nothing really makes them stand out that other breakfast/brunch place. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad- it’s decent. Price is average too.

At No 1 South terrace ,Ginos cafe and trattoria is the Hub of Fremantle.
Opened by a tailor turned Reataurater called Gino Seccone ,Ginos
quickly became the best place in Fremantle, for traditional Italian food & coffee.
I was there last week for a family gathering.
It was a sunny Sunday and the cafe was packed .
We ordered superb Chilli mussels , Spaghetti Bolognaise ,Panini with calamari,
Steak sandwich with chips & salad & Ravioli . Everything was very good, except for the pumpkin and spinach ravioli which was hard and not cooked properly.
The coffee was quite bitter ;which is how the Italians like it.
My Prosecco was excellent .They also have beers & spirits & Australian & Italian wines.
They have some very good cakes & pastries( if you can fit them in) as the food servings are quite large.
After over thirty years , Ginos has a large and loyal following.
Even when busy , the service is excellent .
It is a very relaxing place to sit & chat or watch the world go by, on South Terrace.

Waited 25 minutes for my breakfast. Mate had his and finished when mine got there. Worst pancakes ever. Limp bacon. Saturday morning and average

Carbonara was very peppery, did not eat much as it was not very good. Seafood risotto however eas apparently very nice according to my lunch partner
Freo Food Girl
One of the few places open after 9pm in Fremantle on a weekday, ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was pretty good (not gourmet but better than I was expecting 'late' at night) - would return as it was served quickly and service was good.
Magnum
Only marked these guys down because of the rude arrogant chefs. Had breakfast here Sunday morning, we were early and not many about. The service was spot on, the coffee was fantastic and the breakfast not that bad. I can see why some may think the staff is rude but I was treated nicely and respectfully. Oh I need to make a point, the orange juice was proper and bloody brilliant!!!

Charging $30 for what is advertised as tiger prawns and they are just cheap imported prawns from the supermarket. This place used to be so reliable for good food. I guess not.

I've been a huge fan of this cafe over many years, but this morning's breakfast was awful - completely different to the same menu item I've enjoyed there several times before.

scrambled eggs, tough inedible bacon fat substituted for pancetta, and stringy spinach mixed through the whole lot. It looked a strange colour and seemed to have been stewed. What's going on?

Coffee was brilliant.
Caitlyn Pitman
The ONLY reason I've given 2 stars is because the food wasn't that bad. The service that myself and my partner received tonight was appalling! The waitress' spoke to us like we were dirt and basically dropped our food down onto the table. When he asked whether they brought our drinks out or not he was scoffed at and told to get them from the bar, the waitress threw his card onto the service desk and did not make any eye contact. I will never come back here and I won't recommend that any of my friends and family do either.

Gino's cafe fremantle. It sits in a prominent position on the man street of fremantle and so with all the competition one would think it would push hard to stad out what with the dome cafe right next door. If they were attempting a rustic look well they bypassed it and went straight on to run down and dirty. I was here for breakfast and had the eggs benny. The hollandaise was cold, eggs warn and the ham was cold beneath. The pot for my tea spilt everywhere and the service was slow. The barrista took a cup off the pile he had by the coffee machine and had to clean it up right infront of me. AVAOID THIS CAFE

Gino's is well located on the Fremantle cafe strip. Dining options of inside (if you want some peace n quiet) or outside (if you like people watching lol).

I ordered the Alla Panna (chicken pasta) which was served with minimal waiting time. You do have to order/pay at the counter (sometimes there is a bit of a line) and there is a separate drinks line.

Overall I liked this place...price around $25.
Lola
A lovely spot but the food is not great. I had the chicken salad and the chicken tenderloins were dry and the salad was mostly just lettuce leaves with no dressing. My friends had burgers and they didn't look that great, they said they were also average too. Just because you have an ideal location and have been around a while doesn't mean you can lower the quality of your food. Gino's has done this.

Came here with my family for breakfast- not by choice. Dad whinges about anything that remotely sounds fancy. Well it was pretty bad. I'm giving points for wonderful service and the fact that the coffees were all ready and waiting before we had even finished ordering food.
The food though. The hollandaise and the pancakes sauce was like water. The eggs benedict looked so plain and grosse. Pancakes tasteless and the cream on the side was like water also. Just soo unappealing. The egg white omelette was nice. Serving of avocado and tomato small. Def was not impressive presentation wise. Disappointing.
JackieLee
Great food popped in for breckfast low service took too long for coffee to come out but it was a fantastic coffee when It arrived a little warm for my liking but all in all very nice spot for watching people and great to catch the morning sun

Used to go here often but was charged 8 dollars for as coffee - don't bother !!!
The staff didn't seem friendly even though there were no other customers - just go to the Dome a few shops up for reasonable prices and friendly staff !! no thanks
MF
Not very good overall. Nice location. Service was terrible. Slow when ordering at counter and no apologies or smile. Tea served without milk. Carry own tray to table. Cake selection lacking and didn't find my selection overly tasty.

weekend away to fremantle...... good ol Ginos not many places on the strip open for sunday breakfast - the coffee was to die for the breaki was great also still worth the visit and reasonably priced
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
A bit of a Fremantle "survivor" of sorts as the cafe strip seems to be different every time I visit Freo! Gino's is quite outdated these days, especially when Freo is packed with hip new foodie spots monthly, but I think it may be its traditional charm that has seen it stand the test of time. 🍴On my latest visit I tried the pasta Aglio Olio as I was feeling something plain and didn't feel like acidic tomato. The oil and garlic to pasta ratio was spot on. The addition of chilli flakes added a bit of a kick and the dish wasn't too oily or strong tasting. Light and lovely. ☕️ The coffee was average. I only had an Espresso, but I don't know which beans they use cos it was quite bitter. 😞 With so many new places in Freo I don't know if I'll revisit but for a solid pasta dish this place won't let you down. Bit $$$ though!
Truth Be Told Australia
Your taking the P ss . $50 for 2x bacon and eggs , 1 with mushrooms 1 with hollandaise and 2 Lattes. Problems in order with this so called traditional cafe ! They have loads of staff (all young men) but you have to order at the counter AND collect your own drinks and carry them to your table ?? (I am shocked the health and safety people allow this still). Saw a few elderly people having trouble manoeuvring around people carrying coffee !!!
They have an eftpos machine that takes credit card but not saving or cheque account ?? Then the young man said I will do you a favour and allow it this time ?? When I asked for hollandaise on the side he said I will just check if we have any cause we make our own !! 8am on a Sunday ?? Then when it arrives eggs over cooked , bread loaded with butter 😕 bacon overload and average , and honestly $4.50 for the extra hollandaise and check how much they gave us , 3 tablespoons 😳 no wonder south Fremantle is a buzz with foodies and north Fremantle because places like Ginos need to take a good look at themselves and stop ripping us off just because they are in a good location. Go back to basics, if this is what I would find in Italy I would not bother going !
Nick
Came here with my partner this morning for breakfast. I got ham cheese and tomato toastie/sandwich and my partner had bacon and egg. We were not impressed that we had to serve our own coffee and drink after paying around $40 for food and coffee. Food took forever to come out and my ham cheese and tomato toastie was rock hard and tasted funny. Bacon and egg and bread were ok. However, i felt sick after eating the ham cheese and tomato toastie and had food poisoning. Will definitely recommend people not coming here.

Love this place, though it's a bit pricey. A lot more expensive than most breakfast menus -they do cook BF until 11:30am though. We have never been disappointed with the food. This time I had ricotta scrambled eggs-I couldn't finish it, such a large portion. The bread was fresh, perfectly toasted and smelt divine. Beautiful favours in the eggs- besides ricotta, tomato and fresh herbs❤️ my companions were very impressed also. My only disappointment was that they use tea bags instead of loose leaf tea. Queuing for drinks can also be irksome especially if you only require a water top up. A water station would be a vast improvement. Otherwise highly recommend.

Poor customer service
Blatantly tried to over charge me ($25 for a plate listed on their menu as $18)
There are far better establishments worthy of your money!

Man i used to love Gino"s. was a time when they had great coffee and very satisfying food at reasonable prices considering the location. went recently for the first time in many years and realized those days are long gone. expensive. burnt coffee, asked for a replacement which was not much better. Staff had a "I'm too cool to be polite" attitude ( come on guys, your making coffee. calm down). Great for tourists who want to sit on the strip.
Natalie Helen Baker
Other than the divine accent of the young french waiter who served us and the thrill of watching a heated discussion between 5 Spanish men who colorfully talked with extravagant hand gestures while they ate, this breakfast was less than exciting. Overcooked poached eggs with a flagrant taste of vinegar and a dry toasted sandwich $41 wasted

Came here for brekkie with Mum. We ordered Bacon & Eggs with some tomato. It was ok Bacon was nice but don't like how they fry the eggs on the grill. Bread was nice but for the price about $17 was a little steep. Flat white coffee was beautiful. Good Coffee & Great Service

I grew up with Gino's so I am biased.

The coffee has always been good, sometimes exceptional and the essence of the old Fremantle style.

The omelette was ok but a bit dry. The prosciutto and sundried tomatoes were full of flavour. The side of sausages were good.

A pleasant breakfast but loaded with a bunch of old memories so take this as you will.
Sarah Snoussi
Extremely rude staff, especially the guys standing behind the coffee machine. Please go and get yourself educated.
Cannot understand how this place has been open and going for so long.
Came for breakfast on a quiet Monday. Went and ordered, had to stand at the coffee machine to get our own drinks (which is fine, however they forgot my order instantly!) Fresh juice was nice. Coffee's were good but not really to 'Fremantle' standard which is quite high. The three people I was with ordered 3 different meals that came with poached eggs- more like hard-boiled eggs, none were actually runny! I had the nutella pancakes- they were very thick and had a thin layer of nutella on them with hazelnuts on top, they got very gluggy and dry about half way through.

Waitress that served our food and cleared out table did not want to be there (I get that it's a Monday morning but it could have lifted the experience a bit more)

Well priced but you get what you pay for.
Pete Himself
Fresh home made pasta, good coffee and great location. Food is really tasty and traditional. One of the only places we could get a bite of Italian on the cappuccino strip at 2130 on a Saturday night!
Prince Of Perth
Disapproved. Still considered a Fremantle coffee strip institution, Gino's coffee left me wondering what has happened? Busy night, not enough staff? The stock in trade SFW received was an abomination to all things good coffee should rightly be. No doubt the large volume of table turnover may see this review go unnoticed but sooner or later, poor coffee will lead to pilgrims seeking new horizons.
Foodage
Pardon me if I've left off pictures as the company and over zealousness of having eggs florentine got the better of me. I was surprised to see my salmon on the side and not stacked. It's not s big thing but thought it was odd. I think they could've drained the over poached poach eggs better as the dish was more than moist and I could taste a little vinegar... Is that how they poached the eggs? The real disappointment was the coffee. It was weak and the milk was poorly textured!
Service was adequate.
But still a good way to start the day!

Best omelette in Perth! Holy moley this is good...bacon, red onion, zucchini and bocconcini with fresh chilli and sourdough bread. Highly recommended
Louknowsfood
Is this place for real? Seriously how the hell is is it still operating & how do they call themselves italian? I'm embarrassed! Overpriced tasteless shit...& the sauce wasnt even cooked out. It's a tourist trap...I cant even believe how terrible it was. $24 for about 10 bland spinach ravioli in a giant plate surrounded by watery acidic canned tomato bits & topped with grated cardboard "parmesan"....are you kidding me? Im italian & Im ashamed by the cooking. Plus there's one waiter on a Saturday night to service everyone. Honestly I dont know why people still come here. Avoid it unless you have a huge wallet & aren't too hungry - surely even aussies can tell this isn't authentic italian!?
Tamara Bucciano
Very good coffees, however it feels weird that you have to personally go to the counter and place your order being for food or beverages, so because of that they should improve their ordering process, but overall a popular place to go when you are in Freon
Fullofchocolate
Gosh. Please train your staff to greet customer. food and drink was also below average. You may be better off going to dome next door.......

Haven't been to Gino's for years and was pleasantly surprised. Coffee was good and really enjoyed my breakfast. Having to fetch coffee from bar is a little unusual.
Nott Matt
I walked into this place late night for a coffee with my wife, and immediately noticed the waiters eyes latch onto her as he proceeded to smile and flirt with her ignored the fact her husband was ordering her coffee. When they finally bought the coffee out it was put down on the table like we were not supposed to be there. One rude waiter and one guy who can't control his own urges. Disgusting. Will not be coming back.
Bite Into It
I'm not sure if serving your own coffee is ideal. We had to go get our coffees and cake. I'd like to expect a lot more from this place. It's a great thing that it opens so late at night whilst all the other coffee places are closed. Thumbs up to that.
M.elisa
Amazing apple pie and apple crumble. I'll always stop by there when I'm in fremantle for my favourite treat. Very happy with the friendly service.
Sarah.brownhill
I went into Gino's with my Guide Dog this morning in search of a Chai !atte. I got almost all the way to the counter before one of the waiters told me I had to take my GUIDE dog outside and tie him up. I had to argue with him and tell him it's illegal to refuse entry to a Guide dog. He then muttered something in Italian to the bar man/barista who then asked what I would like. I asked for a Chai Latte and was told that they don't have chai. I decided to leave instead of ordering my back up which is Hot Chocolate. If I had of been made to feel welcome I would have stayed for a hot chocolate. I posted a review On their Facebook page and they called me a liar. The service is truly terrible and I will never step foot in there again nor will any of my friends! The Guide Dog community were quite disappointed to here of my experience and will be boycotting this place b
Foodlover
Coffee and breakfast was ok. Don't like the idea that we have to go back to the counter to carry our own drinks. Waiter rushing around so much and so busy. Interesting place to visit but not a good place to have a relaxing meal.

How hard is it to re-order baci chocolates - we come for a dinner a lot and every second time we come you don't have them - might have to re-think future dining options.
Amitra Kaur
It was after dinner at home, and we decided to take our new car for a ride in fremantle and have deserts at the same time. Upon arriving at fremantle and after a few look around, we decided to go gino for desert. My partner questioned the guy with tatoos (who normally works in the bar and cake section) if the apple tart has raisins in it and his replied was "whatever is mentioned in the label, it is what apple pie should be". Furthermore, when came to my turn, there was a chocolate cake right at the bottom and was placed in the wrong label section, i asked that i wanted that and he took out a rocky road instead. i replied that was not what i wanted and he bang the plate, threw the rocky road choco back to the same spot and replied " cant u said you wanted a bloody brownie". He was so rude to me and my partner and we were so disappointed. He is the guy who has tatoos all over his neck, work around the bar and surpisingly, has worked there for 6 years. Has someone encountered a similar experience with this guy?
Pitch9294
Hot spot of Fremantle. One of fremantles best ... You can't go wrong wether it's for a nice milkshake or the beautiful parmigiana with a side of chips.
Such a great atmosphere always beaming with people.
Rockyroad
BEST ROCKY ROAD! Amazing food and service!!. Ginos never disappoints! The massive selection of food on the menu makes it so hard to choose just one meal for the night! You want it all!

The rocky road is the best I have ever had! You can't just stop at one!

Service is great! There's never a question on what restaurant to eat at when we go to freo.
Ginos every time!
Lizzie_poss2
Great Italian food. I have never been disappointed with the service, coffee, or food at Ginos!
There is a great variety of foods, good for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and cake. The fact that Ginos is right on the cafe strip and is well priced only makes it all the more appealing.
I know I'll be going back there when I am in Fremantle, highly recommend!!!!!
Alza
Had the lasagne on Saturday (26/4). Massive serving and was delicious! Waiter came around to offer fresh parmesan cheese, how good! I loaded up. Free wifi as well, just need to ask for the password
Definitely come back!
Garlicbread
Terrible meal ridiculous prices. Went to gino's 27/04/15 for lunch we had two different focaccia meals which were equally terrible
the bread was dried up and not toasted the cheese was not melted and the fries must have been brought around from mcdonalds . the drinks prices are ridiculously high at $6.33 for a small bottle
of coke. to add insult to injury we were charged a 15% surcharge for the public holiday !!
Karalyn
Did I mention that I will never go here again. The owner must be losing a LOT of business...
Heato75
Poor coffee. Terrible flat white.... Just a cup of warm milk....expected a lot more.

Went to Gino's today for a coffee and grabbed some breakfast. Kept it simple with the bacon & eggs and Gino's special- we will be back, it was a great breakkie stop on a rainy cool morning!

Oh my hat.. Outstanding in every way, definitely worth a visit or 5
Pussycat8273
1 time was enough. Sorry guys but I'm Italian born i don't like the food here at all coffee is ok
Food 2 Run
Good coffee and a nice spot in freo
Tegeirian63
Surcharge. I have ben going to gino's for over 20 years. I went on australia day and was niffed at the 15% surcharge. The staff were unfriendly and i witness a very rude response to another persons friendly banter whilst we waited. My coffee and baby chesecake was nearly $13! The cheescake had extremely thick pastry and was tasteless and stodgy and stale. I didn't take it back as the staff were not really approachable. This is not the same place it was and i will not return.
Nic
Love it! Best chilli mussels and the pastas are absolutely divine
Clark Pent
Love this place! Great location and great Italian food and even better coffee! Must try the coffee and their quality cakes!
Hannah Smith
One of the waiters was the rudest I have ever met. He treated me like I was an inconvenience when I asked for a drinks menu and then when I ordered the coffee (there was quite a few and he wasn't writing anything down) he put his hand up to me and told me to wait. He was one of waiters behind the cakes cabinet working next to the guy on the coffee machine. I actually created an urban spoon account for this vent. As a person who works in hospitality I know a hell of a lot about customer service, this was actually horrible.
Jet
Meh... Iced chocolate doesn't mean ice blocks+ milk and add some chocolate topping...
Date Night
Honestly, in 2015 with so much competition in the coffee biz, do I have to line up, pay, then watch you make my coffee AND take my drinks back to the table on the tray provided? First world problems maybe but I'm not at a seaside ice cream van....
Emma.morgan
Amazing food !!. I went to ginos for breakfast the other day and ordered the ginos special. Service was fantastic, food and coffee came out hot and tasted delicious.
Marg Hand
It was perfect! After the bad reviews I have read lately, I wasn't sure about going when I was invited with friends. I am so glad I did. We all had a wonderful breakfast. Everything cooked to perfection. The service was friendly, fast and faultless. Thanks Gino's for a great start to the day.
Hello_233
Great coffee & Food. As a regular customer i always opt to go for a coffee/ breakfast / dinner at Gino's- Coffee was awesome, food amazing and the service was right on point. Not to sure what the other people are on about.
Sam Perejuan
I paid $9 for a piece of cake and was treated like I had just deficated on the cafe floor. I couldn't not recommend this place enough.
Silabub
Always Wonderful. I always see and hear so many poor reviews of Gino's. I honestly have to wonder if there is a secret, evil twin to the lovely place that I frequent for lunch.
Given the competitiveness of coffee in Fremantle, you could forgive Gino's if they chose to focus on just their food instead. However, I have never been disappointed with the strength, temperature or quality of a Gino's coffee.
I find it very hard to go past a good pasta when it comes to meals, but at Gino's I find myself branching out to try and get through their entire delicious menu. On saying this, I do have to admit that I would go back for seconds and thirds of anything with their tomato cream sauce if I was able.
Even on busy days, I've never been served with less than a smile and a friendly chat. The last time I ate at Gino's they had run out of the tortellini I ordered; the chef came out to apologies and told me of three alternatives that I might enjoy given my original order.
I am only left wondering at the end of all of this... where is the terrible Gino's I hear so much about? I need to tell them to stop ruining the reputation of one if my favourite places in Fremantle.
Auzzie
Worst customer service I've ever had. This place has the worst customer service in this entire city. The guy who took our order was extremely rude, up him self and obnoxious clearly hating the fact that he had to be there and was forced to actually do his job. He has made me never want to come back again!
Ema_jasmine
Definitely not your choice of a good morning start. I walked around freo looking for a decent place to eat and Gino's looked like they offer a range of good food so i walked in. The presentation of the store was pretty good, the cakes look delicious but the customer service was so bad and the food looked like something i could cook up at home easily and definitely isnt worth its price. The coffee was also made badly. I ordered a mocha and the ratio of foam to coffee was 1:1. very disappointing. And the worst part about this cafe is that they dont accept EFTPOS which is a huge inconvenience to a lot of customers.
Nino Sapienza
Simple the worst I ever seen

Tale of two areas. Gino's can be divided into two areas. Café bar and for want of a better word trattoria.
The café side is run by a group of surely young men who have no idea of making the client feel welcome. On more than one occasion I have experienced them giving a customer a hard time, then laugh at their expense when out of sight. Anyone who remembers the original Papa Luigis ( when Gino's was still a tailor), would remember the feeling joy and happiness the boys behind the counter would bring to the place and share with the clientele. Gino's can't or do not want to that ( never have ). Too busy in their own little world. As for the coffee, well it depends on which side of the bed the barrista woke up on. A good creamy flavoured coffee one day, can be a cold burnt offering the next.
Now the trattoria is serviced by a different group of boys who have a little more pernach. They are a little more friendly, a little more helpful. A while back they got rid of the mamas and brought in the chefs. On the whole the servings are good and the food admirable. The gamberi Sambuca is delicious. One must remember this is not a restaurant so don't expect table service and all the trimmings, but on the whole it is value for money in the pricy Perth that now exists. The wine and drinks are acceptable, but don't expect any food critic to write it up.
Why the place varies is anyone's guess. I doubt who ever owns it now really gives a dam. They have a prime spot and they know people will come no matter what. Just a shame the Freo of old is not there for others to experience.
Han
Would not recommend. Went here for a quick eat this morning for breakfast, ordered the banana pancakes and a hot choc. Hot chocolate was served to me in a water glass not a mug which was pretty disappointing - that and it was luke warm. The banana pancakes were bland and boring furthermore the bananas were undercooked. I went to pay with my eftpos card and too was told cash or credit card only which is hardly convenient for most paying customers. Staff were also very rude and arrogant. Needless to say won't be returning again. Can definitely find somewhere nicer to eat for $19.50
Mguthridge6
Unbelievably Bad Customer Service. We went to Gino's for brunch on Sunday after strolling the strip and seeing that Ginos was full of customers is usually a good sign that it would be a good place to eat. How disappointed we were. When ordering and paying, I wanted to pay via EFTPOS but out of my saving account and was told payment was by cash or credit card only. There was a CC pay wave on the counter as well as the standard EFT device behind the counter. I asked again if I could pay from my savings account as he had the EFT device in full view but was again told no. When asked why they didn't allow this the answer was 'because I don't want to". I should have walked there and then but ordered anyway and paid by cash. The order was a simple eggs benedict x 2 and 2 coffees. I was then informed that I would have to order and pay for the coffee at the next counter which I did, only to be told by the waiter there that I had to order the coffee with the breakfast!!! He grudgingly took my order. THEN the barista appeared to crack a wobbly and started to "throw" full cups of coffee on to their waiting saucers including half of my order and then proceeded to walk off the job !!! About 5 minutes later he returned but in the mean time I requested that my half completed coffee order be re made as it would have been cold by the time he returned. This was also done with protest. The scowl on the baristas face was constant and very unprofessional. You guys need to lift your game big time. I will never set foot in Ginos again as long as my bum points to the ground. The eggs were cold by the way.

Fabulous menu and delicious fast breakfast coffee and OJ. Always excellent. Love it.

The people that work there are extremely rude! Used to love the place but the staff have spoiled it. Mainly the male barista learn how to smile and actually respond to paying customers!! Not only did I find him rude but so did everyone around me.

Good coffee and great breakfast. We stopped in here for Anzac day breakfast. I was expecting a long wait for our meals but they turned up quite quickly. Good coffee and the Gino's Special was awesome, the sausages were some of the best I'd had.

Food poor and service is absolutely awful. Only redeeming feature is location.

Nothing Special. I had the blue cheese gnocchi for lunch two weekends ago and it was okay but nothing special. A little disappointed actually. However, the pollo foccacia that my fellow diner had looked nice.

Possibly the worst cafe in Freo. Let's face it, if it weren't for the location, this place would be out of business decades ago. The only reason it's always busy is because of the tourists and the older locals remembering its glory days.

Not much I can add that other reviews haven't already said - bad food, appalling coffee, and the service is almost laughably terrible. When we were there, there were four 'servers' standing around apparently having a great chat while we served ourselves from the counter.

The only time someone came to our table was to collect our plates, and when we told him we weren't finished he rolled his eyes and walked away without a word. The place was literally empty so I don't know why he was in such a rush to clear our table.

Go to literally anywhere else on cappuccino strip for a better meal.

Very poor coffee and cheap supermarket muesli, awful croissant.
Zero charm.

Went to Gino's for breakfast Sunday. Sadly didn't stay. As you have to go to counter to order I patiently waited for someone to serve me. I was the only person at the counter. Not one greeting or acknowledgement. This place is the worst for customer service. I left in disgust and will not be returning.

My first visit to Gino's a few months ago was terrible. We ordered a takeaway milkshake which came in 2 separate coffee cups and a takeaway coffee which was burnt and very pricey. Gave this place another shot and was once again unimpressed, got the order wrong and the iced coffee is no better then my home job.

Typical Trattoria - Loved it!. My sister and I were in Fremantle for a long weekend and absolutely LOVED this place! Full of character and Italians! And it was air conditioned which was a major plus as it was very hot humid over the Australia Day long weekend.

The service was fast and efficient, you ordered at the counter and then collected your drinks from the bar and the food was brought to your table - nothing pretentious, just good wholesome food that was very well priced. Would go back in a heartbeat and eat our meal all over again!

We shared a small antipasto platter (gorgeous olives, prosciutto, parmesan & goats chees), the most tender and tasty grilled calamari & a fresh caprese salad!

TERRIBLE!. Had lunch at Gino's on Australia Day Public holiday and I ordered the Proscuitto e Bocconcino Panini. It came out on a dry panini bun, Proscuitto slapped in it with about two chunks of bocconcini. It was not toasted, there was no fresh basil or olive oil as per the menu. It was DISGUSTING. Worst service and quality of food I have ever experienced, plus the 15% surcharge for public holidays. I will never go back and would NOT recommend eating there at all.

BB in the strip. My wife and I had coffee and cake there. Both OK but the staff asked me to pick up the food and I have to put the tray back to the counter. Very bad service

My partner and i both got very ill after eating here, will defiantly not be going back.

A Fremantle Favourite. Gino's is still one of my favourite places on the strip...service could be more attentive, but the pasta is good - never been disappointed there. There is a pretty large menu, which is good, and the decor is like a typical Italian trattoria.

Fantastic coffee. Dimattina beans. consistant baristas. I can always rely on ginos for a delicious coffee. meals need to be more consistant

If you love 3 weeks old cakes and macaroons that almost break your teeth topped with young arrogant staff who would rather hang themselves instead of working Saturday night shifts, then you are in for a treat!
Seriously, there are many places in freo, so do yourself a favor and don't go there!

Dishwashed Eggs. Picture the scene. Four people, two of whom are pregnant go for breakfast.
Order Hot coffees, and four breakfasts. Eggs requested hard due to the mothers to be not being exposed to any nastiness, oh and crispy bacon.
Coffee arrives (20 minutes later) and is warm. Breakfast arrives a further 10 minutes later. Bacon not crispy and sent back. Comes back three minutes later and is, believe it or not, less crispy. We decide to accept their offering as breakfast is cold.
In the meantime, the eggs are sliced by the expectant mothers and guess what, the yolk pours out. he mothers then decide to eat just the white and both say independently to their partners that they both taste of disinfectant. Both partners try them and they do indeed taste of chemicals.

So thanks Gino's. Poor coffee, an effort to expose my wife and sister in law listeria and then the taste potential poison to our unborn children. And the bacon was not to our liking either.

But they knocked $10 off the bill.

Never again.

Coffee and cake. We had coffee and cake there (I have a medical condition (it's not catchable) so I had a carer with me). The mocha was good and the cake was OK too but the staff were silent and hardly spoke to us. I would improve the staff moralle. They built a beuitfull mocha without asking what it was! So all in all I would give it an eight out of ten for the good mocha! I met a important person there and the coffee did not disappoint!

The only upside about Gino's is the location. Service is consistently terrible, cakes often stale and food over priced for what it is.

By far the worst Italian place I've eaten at, both our meals were cold and horrible, over priced, I had the crumbed veal topped with bolagnase and , the veal was oil and tasted yuck, bog was dry and no flavour, its got a good location so suckers and tourist wld waste money there and never go back, we left our meals half eaten , 1/10

Weak coffee & staff who ignore you. Could be so much better for its location
