Review Vanilla Bean - Fremantle

Maria Grigorescu
Very good coffee! Nice staff and a good variety of food for breakfast or lunch. I had a vegetarian burger and the bun was fresh and soft and rich filling with spinach, avocado, egg and fried haloumi.

Vanilla Bean is a consistently excellent coffee shop, cafe with caring staff. I have been going for over 15 years. I like it opens early from 5.30am. Well done guys, good efforts. Welcome the new management, you have arrived in a great place 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Love this cafe so much, I have quickly become a regular (: the staff are so kind and friendly even when they are busy, I always feel taken care of! The coffee here tastes amazing, so well done and the perfect temperature, and best price in Fremantle currently Croissants are always toasted perfectly, smoothies and mochas are delicious and never last long haha. It’s a lovely little spot to sit and chill out on my lunch breaks and the staff make it so much lovelier!

One of the few cafes in Fremantle to open up early. Hope I'm wrong but food doesn't seem to be served till 7am onwards, as there is only one staff manning the counter and coffee machine till then. Coffee is well made and my veggie platter (with eggs) is very well worth the AUD20 i was charged. Kept me full till lunchtime!

Best coffee I've had in ages! Super smooth, nice flavour, not burnt and reasonable price.

An amazing Coffee Shop!! Wonderful service! Good coffee! Fresh meal! Cosy and quiet atmosphere! Could have sat here all day!

BREKKIE WITH A CAPITAL B!! Hanging out around the corner in accommodation on Arundel St and Googled “breakfast near me” and super glad Vanilla Bean popped up! Set for a day out wandering Freo and keen to fuel up on brekkie options that weren’t greasy and allowed Gluten Free choices with 3 of us having grumbly guts. Everything put in front of us was fresh, delish and came in awesome portion sizes with us indulging in Breakfast Stack, Classic Omelette and Eggs & Toast with a few extras added. Fresh juices, a spot on iced coffee and a good old pot of tea. Over the years we’ve had many breakfast stops in Freo, and this would have to be one of the best...see you again tomorrow Vanilla Bean Team!

Great coffee. Great full brekkie. Good value. Clean. Tidy. Strongly recommend.

Lovely spring morning in an old school Cafe with people, as usual, well seperated. The coffee was fair. The bacon hollandaise was very well presented and tasted pretty good too. A local favourite near the hospital.

Great coffee. Nice vibe and super friendly staffs! Always smiling and cheerful. Love the Salmon Pattie, mini quiche and love the atmosphere.
RegGuyGr8Palate
The coffee is good and worth stopping for, the staff have always been friendly when I’ve been in there. I’ve only eaten here once, had the grilled mushroom on toast, it was enjoyable. They have pre-made food ready to go as well so you can get a quick takeaway

Nice coffee and very good services. The best coffee in Freo. The foods are very fantastic with very fresh salad and they change everyday to make everything different.

Fantastic food and terrific service staff wonderful have found a new
venue for lunches and breakfast .Like anywhere else you do wait if you
are in a queue, because they are so busy. A good sign when many people go
worth the wait which wasn't that long.

Nice little cafe on South Tce near Freo hospital. Easy parking on a Saturday morning.
Service was friendly and prompt today. A cold, wet morning demanded good coffee and Vanilla Bean didn't disappoint with a smooth cappuccino served at the perfect temperature. A little short on foam but the flavour well and truly made up for it.
Muesli with poached fruits + yoghurt ($10) wasn't the finest I've ever tasted but still quite sufficient for a quick breaky. Vanilla nailed the presentation although I expected a cold meal would've come out a little sooner.
Vanilla is only a small place. The open kitchen and coffee bar are spotless and beautifully presented but they do consume 50% if not more of the available floorspace, meaning less room for tables and on a cold day, this results in queues out the door. Lucky for us, the queue started as we were leaving.
** It's worth noting that Vanilla doesn't cater to the coeliac / gluten free crowd. When our waiter explained the reason behind this -- that offering proper GF food would require a separate kitchen to eliminate cross-contamination so they've chosen to not take the risk -- I was less annoyed. In fact, you've gotta respect that transparency. Bravo Vanilla.

So, oft times the term vanilla is used to imply a bland or unexciting thing, and on first glance, this border land establishment between South Freo and its non-geographically pigeon holed neighbour, is a little standard in terms of decor and offerings...

But as with books and covers, such things do not tell the whole story.

It's first redeeming quality is that it opens at six...so if you're commuting anywhere early this is a significant win.

Second of all, it does the fundamental basics well. Good customer service (very good in fact) and good coffee.

Trapped in the border lands it does feel it can charge a bit more for its brew, so bring a little bit more shrapnel with you for your fix, but that's ok....it's a solid coffee at still an acceptable price.

I have never eaten here, but the standard cafe fare on offer always looks fresh and well made. So wouldn't say no if someone organised brunch here, but possibly would venture somewhere a little more exciting if I had responsibilities for venue.

Need an early morning fix that you know will be good however? Drop in for a disappointment free brew!

I liked this place to pop into. I'll give it another go after the Xmas season has passed as I have a hunch they were just opening to do the world a favour today. Which was fab for me :)

Awesome coffee and awesome staff! Have been taking my dad for coffee the past few days whilst he's been in hospital. The staff have been so lovely to Dad, they even know what coffee he has and have it ready when they see him coming down the street!

staff were very attentive and helpful had a lovely mashed avo with fetta really yummy AND the coffee was amazing always good to get a decent coffee with a lovely breakfast it is just as important
Dan
Went there on a rainy Saturday morning. 30 minutes after we ordered the food, staff came over and said they forgot what we ordered. Worst experiences ever.

This is my all time favorite cafe. Best coffee around, the staff are amazing, the owner Adam is very welcoming and the food "Bellissimo" highly recommend.
This place is incredible. Me and partner travel about 40 minutes just to enjoy a beautiful breakfast from here. The food is always amazing, the drinks are delicious and the staff are all very welcoming, polite and happy. Vanilla bean is definitely one of my favourite breakfasts spots.

Staying at a holiday home down the road and dropped in here for breakfast. Great service, excellent coffee (and I am a coffee snob) and a lovely fresh breakfast. I had the grilled mushrooms on toast ($12) and was well worth it! My partner had eggs on toast with prosciutto ($12) . Both were made with fresh ingredients and good servings. Service was quick. Dog friendly (outside). Well priced (total cost 2x breakfast and 2x mug coffee $35-$40)

Did walk past later on and notice they were closing at 1pm, such a shame! Hopefully they extend their hours.
Joelene
Amazing coffee - could be the best in Freo.
Love that this place is run by a family, always friendly and affordable. Kinda happy they now have to open on the weekends (due to the hospital closure and not enough weekly customers)
NRB
Well it's interesting. Nice atmosphere. Very nice staff and helpful. The bread under the ham it was different for it not to be slightly toasted.
Todd
I eat at this restaurant regularly (1-2 times a fortnight).
Not once have I been able to fault their food or service. Prices are just a bonus - I'd pay more for their brekky than anwhere else in Freo (thankfully I usually pay less).
Sol_n_chai
Quite happy with everything at this cute cafe. Ham and cheese croissant was nice enough and so was the avo/tomato/fetta dish. Thank you for having us.
Emily Banks
Busy little place, not a lot of options for breakfast but reasonably priced. Our breakfast totaled $34 for a breakfast wrap, 2 poached eggs + tomato + bacon and 2 coffees. Cappuccino was good, caramel latte was very good! Breakfast wrap was decent for its price, eggs were perfectly poached, tomato was very well done! All round a great little place, coffees took a while to come but breakfast didn't take long! Great friendly service, will definitely return!

Very friendly staff, nice coffee and a great breakfast. Up until I stumbled across Jac and the Bean, I had this joint as my underrated breakfast joint in freo. Defiantly worth a quick stop before you stroll into Freo and enjoy the rest of your day.

This cafe gets packed out on weekends and it's easy to see why. The space is lovely and warm, and the cakes and meals on offer look delicious (and well priced). It's the typical cafe fare (muffins, biscuits, friends, wraps, lasagna etc) but done well. Service was friendly and I love that they brought a bottle of water to the table straight away. My coffee ($3.80) was OK but not outstanding. Vanilla Bean Cafe would be a great meeting place during the week, or if you are waiting to visit the hospital, because it's quiet (despite the open kitchen!) and has a lovely feel about it.
Hippo309
Pretty well balanced flat white. Yummy biscuits (choc chip and florentine). Service could have been quicker. Very friendly staff. Love the interior decor.
Lily
The service at this place is amazing, the staff are friendly and really care about the customers. The coffee is great and the food is even better :) what a great cafe!
Sam
Good old fashion service with a smile and personal service. One of the best cafe's in Fremantle for coffee with great food, the management know most people by first name which is a great touch showing they care about customer service, something a lot of other cafe owners could learn from.

Sam

-----21 Dec, 2014-----

Service with a smile. My family and I love this cafe and it's in our top 4 for South of the river, and like the idea it's out of the main cafe strip but close to wray ave so you get that local feeling. The owners know so many people by first name, showing you the extent they want to know their customers, breakfast is always a hit with me, and lunch is amazing, love this place.

If you are after quality. Beautiful, fresh, amazing food. If you are after a gorgeous salad, this is the place. To those diners who think this venue is a little expensive, you get what you pay for. There are lots of little cheap cafés around if you just want a sandwich.
Greedy Guts
Great service -we are always looked after here - yummy breakfast and delicious coffee - my new favourite
Foodlover-baldivis-25
GREAT FOOD BUT OVERPRICED. Okay, the service was great, the food was tasty, but the prices are ridiculous. I ordered a turkish bread with chicken and avocado paste filling, and also ordered a hot chocolate and the total was almost 17 dollars. A hot chocolate which costs about 20 cents to make is charged to the public at 5 dollars? And the turkish bread with chicken and avocado paste filling was 12 dollars.

I would suggest they change prices if they expect everyday people to come back.

Apart from that, friendly staff. Good food and service. Just disappointed with how much I had to pay which ruined the dining experience.

Superb!. What a great little café!
From the moment we entered to the moment we left the service was amazing! Great coffee and scrumptious food at affordable prices.
Very impressed. Will certainly be back.
Highly recommend a visit

Great coffee and service. A cafe well done.

Friendly staff, fast service, cheap coffee, tasty food. A great place to visit! I am a regular in the morning for their great tasting coffee that they offer at a fair price. The staff always inviting and the place is warm and cosy. Food is great tasting and is at a fair price e.g for $12 you can have a fantastic breakfast of avocado, feta, tomato on toast - its a great combo. keep up the good work guys!

Coffee is phenomenal... Service is very friendly ... "Thumbs up" :)

Outstanding service and fantastic breakfast. Really love the Italian touch. Can recommend eggs Benedict. The business.

I popped in to this bustling little cafe last week and was pleased I did. The service was old fashioned premium customer service and the food was fresh and tasty. Alot of eateries in Perth could learn alot from the owner and staff of this cafe. Loved it and will go back again when Im in the area.

Great place. The owner 'Adam' knows how to look after customers. The food is superb, the coffee divine. More so the fact that when a business is so successful, it buys out the two neighbouring stores to expand, you know its good. Nothing but praises for this great Freo gem!
Nataronni
Fantastic coffee. High standard of service and very friendly. Top hit with the locals in Freo!
Livelife
Breakfast this morning was brilliant. Food is finished off to perfection. Coffee is one of the best I've had in a long time. But the friendly service is the on another level, hence the many regular customers. Definitely coming back with more friends!
Nic
Fantastic food and service!! Have been here numerous times and it has always been consistently good! Busy cafe with short wait times and very friendly staff!
Student Cravings
The coffee here is absolutely fantastic! Beautiful shot, sat perfectly on the pallette, and deliciously creamy textured milk. I didn't get to try the food but it looked amazing! If only it didn't close so early.

Best chai latte ever! delicious generous size meals and wonderful service. owner/manager very friendly and ensures customers satisfaction. speedy service also!

Wonderful cafe. What a wonderful find. Fantastic coffee, food and amazing service. So glad we
stumbled across this little gem.
Coffee is so great that you can't just have one. We have had a few choices on the breakfast menu and they have all been sensational. On our first visit we were made to feel like we were regulars. The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming. I can highly recommend this cafe so should you be down Fremantle way make sure you call in and try the coffee for yourself you won't be disappointed. Thanks Vanilla Bean. :)

Fantastic service, lovely people and a truly delectable early morning breakfast!!!
Hungry Leo Rat
Very friendly, nice vibe, good coffee, water for us and the dog. Pity it's so noisy from passing traffic when you sit outside.
Natalia
Vanilla bean coffee is hands down the best coffee in perth.... And I lived in Melbs for 12 years.. It's like God touched your lips from the very first sip.
Waldo21
Great coffee, excellent service. I wish some of the other cafe owners in freo could learn from this very simple hospitality process.
Sally Rick
Very nice me and my partner go all the time..would recommend the breakfast roll.service is good
Hungry Veggie
It is the places that you least expect that can provide the most amazing taste experience for a vegitarian. Thank you vanilla bean. Not only great service but really tasty lunch... and I only popped in for a coffee
:-)
BobynS
Lovely cafe, warm and personable service that is hard to come by anywhere else. They just go that extra mile (eg the owner used to give me a sneaky choccy with ny coffee when i was preggo!). The place is always full of regulars that the staff know by name, which says alot. Lovely food too!
Mangasti
It's been a while since I've popped into Vanilla Bean but as always I have never been let down. I love my coffee and these guys know how it's done. Great service as usually, keep it up guys.

Such a cute little cafe with great fresh food and excellent service! A relief to know that there is somewhere decent to have breakfast in Fremantle!
Aperitif
Very good service. Love the salads and coffee. I come to Perth every 4 weeks from Sydney. If I have an appointment in Fremantle this is where I get coffee and food. There is another coffee place around the corner which is more spacious in their sitting arrangement but their menu is restricted to time. It was annoying i could not get the "12 pm" meal because it was 11.37. Here you can see the food at the counter and order what you like. Presentation is very good. They take Amex which is a bonus. I wish they were open for dinner.
Ozbenny
Ozbenny. A terrific little inner city cafe. It always has a great vibe. A mixture of fast service, friendly but respectful; great cafe music and the smell of good Fiori coffee and cooking breakfasts. There is always a small queue to be served but the turnover is very fast. They manage to serve walk by customers, regulars from cycling groups and the larger orders from the Fremantle hospital across the street in good time.
The cafe blinds on the sidewalk create an effective shelter from the breeze and when combined with the heaters, make the cafe warm and inviting on the cooler mornings. This combined with a good coffee, a complimentary paper and reasonably priced and delicious food makes me love this cafe.
WA needs more like this.
Frenchbird
Such a great little cafe. Consistently great coffee and food as well as friendly service and staff that give you their full attention. Always busy when I go but I don't mind waiting a few minutes (during this time nearly every member who walks past will greet me - so easy but most would agree that it is a rarity and makes such a difference). I hope that Vanilla Bean continues to succeed and perhaps even gets the opportunity to expand. Truely setting a standard and should be very proud of how well they have build up a very loyal customer base.
Clayton Gunning
Nice clean little Cafe. Food is good as is the service. Prices are not over the top and certainly a place to recommend.
Cake Is My Weakness
Awesome little cafe!!. I come here nearly everyday before work for my long machiatto with one sugar to go. They have one of the best brews in freo.

I am individually greeted by everyone behind the counter regardless of how busy they are and never once have they stuffed up my order. They even offer you cold glass of water while you read the paper and wait for your takeaway coffee. Service is fast, efficient, friendly and most of the delicious food is cooked onsite (even their bread).

Being right across from a major metropolitan hospital full of overworked, time pressed and often caffeine deprived staff they have definitely found a loyal and appreciative client base.
Run Amuk Hotdogs
Yum! Just the way we like it.... Vanilla Bean have always served us a great coffee; just with way we like it... smooth and consistent, with heaps of smiles and great service even when they are really busy.
Nathan
Quality lunch. Came across this lovely little cafe whilst visiting a friend in hospital. Food options were great especially the variety of salads. I settled for nacho pie & ceasar salad ... it was delicious.
The only down side was the way one of the male staff, could have been the owner, berated his staff. Very embarrassing for customers to witness.
Elizabeth
Lovely lunch. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Best Turkish bread I've ever had.
I'll definately go back.
The Man
Came here for breAkfast during the week and was blown away. Some one greeted us immediately and handed us a menu and showed us our table, even though it was counter service they took our order at our table. It was really busy and our coffee and food came out so quickly. A little small talk and they were back to work. Coffee was perfect and food was just as good. Loved the service and will be back.
Jane Dough
My partner and I sat down for breakfast and waited 20 minutes and no one even said hello to us. The waitress walked past and looked at us 8 times then proceeded to leave to move her car, no one else came outside and offered menus or a greeting. Hopefully next time will be better..

Staying Fremantle Hospital had my bring up a coffee from VB and it was prefect. Well done.
Cheyenne
Trish. Vanilla Bean is by far the friendliest cafe around. Good coffee too!
Cass
Vanilla Bean. Delicious coffee and lovely staff! It made my morning!
Lamont
If Only I Lived Closer. Great Coffee!!! My cappuccino was just how I like it!!
Nice selection of quick lunch options in the display fridge full of interesting salads and turkish breads. Choose to do a MYO with chicken, avocado, mayo and swiss cheese... Defs hit the spot!!! The place was busy but staff were very quick and attentive. Only downside.... on the wrong side of the river for me.
Freogirl
Lovely home made fare. The majority of the food at VB is home made and delicious; it has some great vege options. It has a nice atmosphere and does brisk business. The owners go to some effort to ensure that patrons are actually satisfied with both the food and the service.
Foodiefoodlover
Authentic espresso bar- loved it for coffee. After placing my order, feeling up the gorgeous velvet wallpaper and enjoying the aroma of fresh coffee and the very authentic espresso bar scene (three, Italian men in black muscle shirts behind the counter, a serious coffee machine with two barista's working it) I was handed my coffee with a smile and some authentic small talk about the weather... my long black was perfect! and my experience (around 6 minutes all up) lifted my spirits for the day- as good as a holiday to Italy (almost)
awesome cafe guys!!!
Lozzy_13s
Good service and prices. Lovely personalised service for the regulars, friendly to everyone else. Coffees are a dollar cheaper than the nearest competitor and the food is fresh, healthy tasty. These guys work hard and provide a much needed service for the nearby hospital visitors/staff.
Anchor Man
Really enjoyed it for breakfast. $15 for the big the big breakfast and it was seriously big! Great value. Coffee was slightly expensive but not hugely. Service was very friendly. Should have better rating
