Seafood Basket was fresh and juicy and fried perfectly. Atmosphere was lovely by Bathers Beach for a bit of sunset dining. Service was ok too.
I haven't been to Sweet Lips for yearsss and I'm glad they're still reeling out the same good ol' fish and chips 🎣! I was never a fan of fish and chips (still aren't) until I came across Sweet Lips 6 years ago and nothing has come close ever since 🎏. The fish was coated with the thinnest of batter, fried up super crispy and did not take any attention away from the fresh fish flesh.
Having said that the real winner on the day was actually my raw salmon poke bowl 🐟🥗! Combine brown rice, edamame, pickled ginger, scallions, slaw, cucumber, red cabbage, wakame salad, sesame seeds with an Asian-style dressing and the result was the perfect salad with all the health benefits you wish you'd always had 💪. The bowl looked deceptively small but it was super filling. With every bite there was a different mix of ingredients and together they sang so beautifully 🐠🎶🌱! The dressing really helped brighten up the flavours while the raw salmon needed no help shining through. Poke me any day of the week, I dare ya!
Don't let the lack of a view put you off - there's a reason why there's always a queue here (and it's not just the shopadocket vouchers). Get takeaway and take it over to the park near the beach and you'll have great food and a great view.
Found ourselves at Fremantle again- and decided to try Sweetlips after having been disappointed with the offerings of the others in the area. I really wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the family feast, some oysters, and some other stuff I can't remember. And the food turned out surprisingly good. The fried food was done to perfection, i.e. good batter, not oily, crunchy on outside, fresh on inside. The food here is fresh on the both times I visited, and the portion is substantial. There's some redemption in Freo after-all.
Never tried Sweetlips before so we gave it a go yesterday. We had Family Feast, Premium Fish (Whiting) Fillets & Chips and Coleslaw Salad. To be honest I didn't expect much from this place. However I was impressed by their batter, crunchy and not oily. Portions were quite generous too. Coleslaw was ok too.
A couple of things that put me off:
1. Very oily (slippery) floor. Be very cautious when you walk inside.
2. Oily smell sticking to ur hair and cloths if you sit inside due to kitchen located close to dining room. Hence we preferred to sit outside.
3. Unlike others (neighbours), they didn't have that many staffs on, so we waited quite a while for our food to come.
Overall wasn't a bad experience. I would go back one day.
Sweetlips Fish & Chips in Freo serves one of the best fish & chips around town. Forget about Cicerello's or Kailis, just swing around the corner and give it a go and you will not regret about it. It's fresher, less fishy, less oily and they deliver to your table!
Best fish and chip shop. Only one I know close to me that does deep fried feta. Have a big grill option which most fish n chip shops do not and so much local produce from freo / wa surroundings. It's always busy which shows it must be good. Doing a good job guys love your establishment and always have friendly staff 😀
This works out to be good value if you use the entertainment app. Having grilled will cost you an extra $2. They have live music on a Sunday evening! So good!
We got a family pack to share between four adult and it was HUGE! Good chips, great prawns and the fried fetta was actually really tasty! Fish was good, not the best I've ever had but the batter wasn't too greasy which is a plus. I didn't love the calamari cause it was a bit stringy but the rest of the group enjoyed it.
Good value when we used the Entertainment Card discount. We've been here twice now but mostly because it's on the Entertainment Card. The seagulls are a huge turnoff - they're horrible!! But not really the restaurants fault!
Delicious and fresh fish and chips. About time someone did it well!! You're putting the big guys across the road to shame. 😉 keep it up! Grilled fish burgers are my go to...mmmmmm
Very good in terms of fish and chips, while its not the greatest I've ever tasted, Sweetlips is up there in the top few!! Nice location though.
I’ve eaten at all the fish places along the Fremantle harbour and Sweetlips is my new favourite. It’s the best fish and chips I’ve eaten in a long time. Located inside the bathers beach house, with parking just the other side of the train tracks, on the corner of Cliff Street and Marine Terrace.
Best Fish and Chips!. I love Fish and Chips and Sweetlips ticked all the boxes! I went on Scoopon voucher and it exceeded my expectations! My husband and I had a seafood basket each and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked seafood; fish, squid, prawns and scallops. Love the location and the service was great too! Will be back for more!
Went on Valentines Day and although packed and advised we had to 45 mins for the meal we both thought it was the best fish and chips we have ever had. Beats any of the others in the area and will definitely go again. AWESOME!
Will never go anywhere else for fish and chips in freo... Best fish!
Great fish & chips, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere. All round nice family Restuarant.
Best Fish and Chips in Fremantle, compared to other bigger restaurants and names on the wharf, this little cafe, wins hands down every time. The fish is always cooked perfectly - crispy light batter, with friendly staff and great value. Ordered the plate for two, had 4 pieces of fish, succulent battered squid rings, battered feta, squeeze a little lemon over - you could give me a bowl of the battered feta and lemon wedges anyday, but underneath all that was a huge pile of chips, for approx $36, this a great deal, when you want fish and chips in Freo for 2, would even be enough for a small family - in a great location! The staff need to be more aware of the tables though, leaving tables, after customers have left for to long, is not a good look, especially when the seagulls are fighting over the few chips left on the plate.
Friday Night Fish & Chips. We used our voucher for a seafood basket here on Friday night. Service was good and the food was even better. The decore is not ritzy but well suited to being on the beach and is family friendly. Will definitely be going back for more
Friendly service, great fish and chips.
I've been here dozens of times and it's still my local for fish and chips. The service is friendly, good honest servings, fresh and well cooked.
My only gripe is that it can get very busy and sometimes this causes quite a wait. But if you get here before the lunch and dinner rush you'll be very happy and it's a nice alternative to to the overpriced and "get em in get em out" places like Kailis Bros and Cicerellos.
Try the NZ dory, tiger prawns, salt & pepper squid with chips ($14.95!!) because it's delicious!
Nice, crispy fish. Slightly slow service.
Not sure why the likes are so low. Been there many many times and always excellent. Great fish, great battered prawns and great salt and pepper squid.
