Review Mrs Browns Wine Bar - Fremantle

David Kew
Great, atmospheric bar. Throwback to a bygone era with its dark but cosy fireside loungers, warm lamps and rich tones. Lovely place to relax and while away a couple of easy hours.
Megan McAuley
Such a cool bar, love it. Staff are always very friendly

Fantastic bar with rotating beer tap and relaxing layout. Lean back into the comfy and retro leather lounges while munching on a burger from Flipside next door.

Excellent vibe, fantastic staff and great drinks list! We booked our engagement party with these guys last minute and they were so helpful every step of the way. They were so friendly and easy to work with and besides all that - we had a bloody excellent time and always do when we go! Easily one of the best spots in Freo.
Jackie Robb
Great atmosphere. Lovely bar and fantastic staff.

Great little hideaway in plain site. Always fun to come here for a quiet drink. Can get busy at times, but there is a reason for it. It never disappoints with nice wine, drinks, nibbles and great music. Has a nice vintage, quirky feel to which makes the environment that much better. Keep it coming - need more places like this.

Great small bar in North Freo, great vibe, cool walled garden area with heaters and fire for chilly evenings. They have an eclectic selection of wines and a couple of craft beers on tap all at reasonable prices. Great place to chill any day of the week.
Stephanie Hyde
Such an awesome bar. They only have two beers on tap which are different on each visit however the cans/ bottles available are great. Also a decent range of wine. My favourite part of this bar is you can head next door to order burgers from flipside (amazing btw) and they will deliver to your table at Mrs Brown. You can also get a small selection of pizza which comes from another local restaurant. Can get very very busy but that's because it's sooo great!

A couple of weeks ago went for pre-dinner drinks - It was not busy & we grabbed a table in the middle room. Unfortunately the music was up so loud it made conversation useless. We moved to the front (main) area, sat down to the same volume and especially enjoyed the look on the wait persons face when we asked if he could turn it down a touch. Obviously not... Loud rap music at 6pm on a Saturday evening certainly killed any thoughts of a 2nd round & out the door we went.

One of the highlights of a visit to the North Fremantle strip – centred on Queen Victoria Street – is the excellent small bar, Mrs Brown. With its nod to Queen Victoria herself, the eye catching bar with its racks of wine against exposed brick walls, to the warm and comfortable, and suitably eclectic furnishings, to the brilliant courtyard at the back – complete with wood fire for those cooler nights – it has a lot to offer.

I would love to visit this place again. Visited Mrs Brown during a crowded evening, couldnt get a space. But that didnt stop me frm enjoying the ambience and drink. Cocktail i had was well balance and customer service was good even when it was really full. Shall try visiting during the afternoon and checking out their backyard space that i heard was cosy.

I like Mrs Brown. She is small, diminutive and a little bit Freo.

I like the broad range of craft beer and cider offerings and the wine list is suitably broad and not overbearing.

Having been there a number of times in the past I must say that this recent visit did show me that she can be a touch surly in her demeanour sometimes and this was a disappointment.

Also, please don't serve up a digestif in a full wine glass, it looks like the dregs of a long forgotten Bordeaux in need of a swirl, a sniff, and a toss down the sink! Get some proper glasses if you need.

So while a bit down on form. She is a dame of north Freo and I will drop in again.

Hmm... Lots of positive reviews... I didn't rate the service. Seemed to be some trouble lighting the fire. Played around with the words on the wall and left. Feel I should come back to try other drinks (I had PX) and perhaps food. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for eclectic chairs and old photo frames.

Awesome place to catch up with friends. The drinks are always good no matter what you choose, the staff are always helpful when stuck in what to have. The comfy chairs, quirky decor, laid back and friendly service is the embodiment of Freo. Whenever nibbly I'll just order a burger from next door's Flipside that you can eat at Mrs Brown. Chicken, pear, parmesan, rocket, balsamic sauce burger is the thing of cravings. Def worth checking out again and again..

Love this little local haunt. It's warm and cozy on a winters night with a log fire in the back room. The staff are great, lighting perfect and chairs eclectic. I keep going back.

Love love love! Cute little backyard and we order burgers from Flipside next door and get them delivered.
Makes me wanna move back to North Freo!

Go Mrs Brown! Can we have one of these in our neighbourhood, please? Even the drinks cheaper than I normally pay. Even the empty photo frames work.
LittleGirlBigFood
Such an awesome little spot. The courtyard is cosy and accommodating. The bar is fantastic. Great wines, great drinks. Order in a flip side burger from next door to avoid the hangover blues!

Have enjoyed Mrs Brown over the past 2-3 years but the service is becoming very lacklustre indeed. Over past 4-5 visits noticed staff very perfunctory and not interested. Not busy at all tonight and couldn't even get a wine list to order from....- think there were 3 in the whole place- bar staff basically told us to wait until one became available????? No recommendations or questions about what we like???? Went outside myself to look for one....Really??? Do you want customers or are we an inconvenience???? Plenty of other places to go...... Sorry but not good enough.

Cool place. New to North Freo - big fan! Excited for the opening of their new places across the road - I think they said propellor and the guild hall?- I can ride my bike!!!!

Courtyard, wine, burgers - Win!. Fantastic little bar! We visited during the week on a cool evening and we were greeted with a toasty fire and crocheted blankets to keep use warm while we enjoyed a cheeky vino outside. The staff offered plenty of helpful advice while we decided on a wine. The staff knowledge of the wine list was a welcome relief from bars where the staff have no clue what's on offer. Great selection! We will be definitely be returning to try the some more of the wine selection soon :) Also loved the Flipside burger delivery to the bar - what a little gem

Unhappy regular. Usually enjoy Mrs Browns but appalled at the attitude of bar staff last night particularly the American/Canadian girl. Telling good paying customers you are too busy to serve them (not a very busy night) and being ignored is slightly infuriating. Being referred to as 'luv' and politely asking her not to call me 'luv' she then called me 'Mam' and explained where she comes from they call grandmothers 'Mam'. I am fiftyish and not a grandmother and between three of us spent well over $300 sitting at the bar and certainly did not deserve to be treated with such extraordinary disdain. I hope the owners read this and give her a good swift kick right where she deserves it!!

French!!. Great place. Love it.
But "mates" comments are so gay.
Fortunately u won't see him there

Relaxed and unpretentious. One of my favourite places to sit and have a drink...

I have been a regular for a couple of years now on a Friday after work.Always a good time had at Mrs Brown atmosphere is electric&the bar staff are friendly&very helpful in choosing a wine. The Choc Orange Martini absolutely superb. When you walk into a bar&the staff are giving good service&are having laugh you know it's the place to be.
MsMeri
We have been repeatedly there for a Friday end of week drinks. First thought its a one off getting arrogant and smart comment from behind the bar.
Now it's the norm and actually offensive, Lost us as customers.
Cazbar
The delightful Mrs Brown. Love it more each time.... Bar staff a mixed bunch, little cool to start but warm up if effort made to have a conversation. Know their stuff though. I've always enjoyed their recommendations when trying new wine.

LOVE the Spanish blue cheese and the olives. Flip side does a marvellous burger.
Marcus
Overly expensive, substandard cocktails that take too long to make. Thoroughly disappointing.

Mrs brown. Nice and relaxing place - been there a nuber of times over the past few months. Beast towards the end of the week. Has that...Je ne sais pas quoi - maybe it's the 'Nth Freo feel'?.
Love Food
Love this bar!shouldve just stayed here on Saturday night, instead went and had a really average time at harvest...you guys were the highlight of our night, thank you!

Great place however the service leaves a lot to be desired. Unfriendly bar staff, bordering on obnoxious. Such a shame!

90%. Happened to come across this place by chance on route to Freo, called by flipside for some burgers, they said there was a 20minute wait, so we went next door and found this quirky retro styled gem of a pub (Mrs Browns) and ordered some drinks. All was well until I went to order a solo (being the designated driver) and was felt inadequate by the barman for not wanting one of their fine wines, or at least that's the vibe I received as he told me they didn't serve sodas! What pub doesn't serve coke/solo/fanta?! Aside from that, we were thrilled to discover that we could bring our pre-ordered burgers from next door inside and eat them in the pub! There's a nice arty group of people who go here and i'm assuming are regulars. There's also a nice outdoor courtyard to the back for smokers and summer nights. I'd go back here again (and order a wine!)

Love this place, popped in with the other half, Kalleske Shiraz was a stonker!! Great vibe, friendly staff nice setup, a hidden gem....will eat next time, can't wait!

New Spot. Mrs Brown has become one of my favourite small pubs in 2012. Its great to head down there and meet the crew for a few drinks on a Saturday arvo and grab a flipside burger from next door. The decor is rustic and quirky which fits in the with the North Fremantle vibe. The old stomping ground of Bon Scott is great for a beer on a hot day out the back in their reonvated courtyard. Until next time ... 8/10.

Great atmosphere. Really like Mrs Brown's atmosphere. Will always visit and great place to go in the summer months.

Perth's all gown up.... Sinking into a low retro easy chair and sipping a pinot in the ambient lighting at Mrs Brown last Friday night had me thinking...Perth has finally come of age...in this little part of Fremantle anyway.....'

Pleasant. I like to chill here. Sometimes meet friends I know.
There's always a good selection of wines and other beverages and the bar people are usually friendly if not pleasant. And I've never encountered any 'agro'. Just normal (IMHO) people.
Recommended.
Good vibe. My fave bar.

Classic. This place is a classic. Well worth a visit, great atmosphere bit pricey but not too cruel. You can smoke out the back as well.

Mother's Day beer with a bestie. Unfortunately had to drag 5 kids with us but with burgers from next door they were pretty well behaved. This place is a gem. A bit pricey but understandable in a small bar. No twits getting smashed and we could have a conversation without doof doof. Highly recommended. Highlight of my Mother's Day.

Im sorry, i thought you were supposed to be a wine bar with staff who knew about WINE??? Oh well at least we can have a cheese platter.... which consisted of chopped up chunks of cheddar cheese and jatz crackers for only ten dollars!!! Wow!!! Overpriced and over-rated!! Better off staying at home with a bottle of wine and some dips and crackers. 3/10

A (not especially cheap) bar for grown-ups where you can talk without having to scream, drink without idiots spilling beer over you and eat something that hasn't come out of a deep fryer. More places like this, please...,

A really cool decor inside to drink a quite ale.

Great staff, funky fun place. Couldn't decide what wine I felt like (as usual) and the two surfie guys behind the bar were so helpful! It so refreshing to meet bar tenders with wine knowledge and without attitude. After a bit of non-wank wine talk I had an amazing glass of red I would have never thought to try, success!!
I also love the new outdoor part at the bar, really cool but still relaxed vibe.

Great place keep it up!
Food Is Just Food
Great place. great beverage list. decor, layout, music all make for a nice small bar! the only downside to my visit, was the typical 'know it all barman', as a paying customer who has politely asked a question, you have no right to be rude or a smartass. I have done my stint in hospitality and i know for a fact there is no excuse for this. If your job makes you so unhappy, find another one. I will be back because i really like the place.

Expensive but good vibes. Be prepared to pay $18 for a cocktail and around $11 for a glass of wine here. A great wine list with many sold by the glass (which you'd hope for at a wine bar!!). Nice vibes, good service, lovely courtyard out the back that's great for group gatherings.
Andy
Great burgers. Great wine. Amazing vibe. Don't miss it

Ambience is great, and I Ike thatcivilised folks play scrabble over a tipple

Small bar thing is over. Excellent but expensive.

Used to think of this place as our cozy winter bar, but had a great little Sunday arvo in the new(ish) courtyard on the weekend. Cocktails were creative, wine list looked good and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there entertaining us. Burgers from Flipside topped off a good day. We'll be back.

Pretty Special. Cosy and quaint
Great range of wines
Great buzz
Love the idea we can sit and even play a game of scrabble
Being away from the madding crowd is always a bonus
Flipside is an added attraction
Met my very special lady there !!!!!!

Always tons of ladies...

Scrabble at Grandmar's. Last Friday we ventured very unwilling to Fremantle.
Here we found Mrs. Brown.
She let us sit on her couch, sip our wine and play her scrabble.
Thank you very much for the great night out!
We will definitely visit again.

A gem. This one is a real gem! A postmodern take on Victoriana spread out across a couple of comfy living rooms. Although they serve basic tapas, they let - actually, pretty much encourage - you to bring in your burgers from Flipside next door. Mood lighting, unobtrusive music and a mixed crowd make this a really relaxed small bar to start, continue or, who knows, even finish the evening!
Tim Hill
Yes yes yes. I am considering moving to Fremantle to be closer to this gem. If everyone did "good" this well I would be out every night.
Tara Spencer
Gorgeous. I absolutely love this bar. It is so intimate and quiet, and takes you away from all the hoons wanting to fight!
Thekitchencrusader
They've got some snacky platters for sharing while drinking, but nothing substantial. You could of course, always pop next door (in the case of both little wine bars o awesomeness) and grab a burger from flipside.
Tannic Teeth
I acknowledge it has been a while since the last small bar review because life seems to have its way of insisting to apply more attention to where it's needed most. So it was refreshing that to get back into a small bar late on a sunny afternoon in Freman
Stu
...a cool little bar tucked away next to Mojos and is decked out with old chairs and couches.

Last night after seeing a spot of ballet we headed over to North Freo for a burger and a drink. Mrs Brown is a small bar that recently opened up next to Flipside, on Queen Victoria St. It's suitably dark and trendy inside, with shelves full of dog-eared b
