Called in today for lunch with my daughters, food was great! We all had a lunch special. Well priced and a fantastic steak sandwich for me, the girls loved the fish & chips. We will be back again and will recommend this place.
I found the meals great we had an entree of cheesy garlic bread and main of surf and turf, we also ordered 6 children's meals and my kids loved it... I found the service great and very accomodating. The only thing I would complain about is the price of drinks $4.50 is a bit rich for a can of soft drink.. Had a great night with great people for my husbands 30th... The staff were great and the food service was awesome seeming they were looking after our party of 30 plus others in the restaurant as well..
Friendly staff great food and atmosphere highly recommend it to anyone local and traveling such an enjoyable experience
My partner and I had a lovely meal in the restaurant upstairs with friends. Excellent meal and very reasonably priced for such large serves. We finished our night dancing downstairs to the Karaoke. Fantastic atmosphere and lots of fun.
The best Garlic Prawns I've had in ages. Perfectly cooked and very generous. Definitely going back. Special mention to our lovely waitress Adriana.
Originally my partner and I were attracted to the half price dinner special on a Wednesday night! Little did we know how amazing the atmosphere and food/drink is at this pub!
Will definitely be returning
Had the Monday Night Steak special last night and the steak melted in your mouth. Good size portion and the side salad for $2 was very tasty. Dessert was excellent too. Service was excellent. We really enjoyed that it was not noisy and our group were able to talk to each other without having to yell to be heard. Will definitely be going back soon.
Dropped in for a Fritto Misto after work with friends. Fantastic feed. Definitely recommend. Definitely coming back.
We are never disappointed. There were 4 of us, each had something different. One has allergies and couldn't have any dressings etc. Not a problem. Highly recommended. The food was really top class.
Had a lovely birthday dinner and the food was beautiful. Highly recommended
Had the best chilli mussels for lunch today good value but will be back Tuesday or Wednesday night to get it half price
Great vibe, staff awesome and the drinks delicious!
Dropped in for a steak at the Ale house on recommendation. Awesome, great food, great value and the service was faultless.
Very pleasantly surprised. Delicious food, great value items. Brilliant service. What more could you ask for?
You might surprise yourself!
Don't forget about the Friday special. Seafood platter for 2 half price.
Fabulous dinner and the service was excellent. Definitely going back soon!
I could not recommend the South Street ale house enough! My husband and I enjoyed a seafood platter for 2, which consisted of delicious grilled fish, oysters, prawns and an assortment of other delicious seafood! We were looked after by Gabriella and Lara who were extremely attentive and made our experience a very enjoyable one! We will definitely be back soon!
Pleasantly surprised!!
Quiet Tuesday night.... really nice atmosphere... the service was fast, friendly and attentive.... food was fantastic.... we especially recommend the Fremantle Sardines and the Asian Chicken Scallopini.
Well done, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back soon.
I have dined at this restaurant/pub since 2008. It's come a long way. Before it was very average pub food however now with the restaurant upstairs, it is very nice. I've eaten almost everything on the menu and its above what you'd expect from a small restaurant in Hilton. Having deals on every night is a bonus too. We went Wednesday night for my boyfriend's birthday and had 1/2 priced meals. The fish was cooked nicely and the fried calamari and chips that accompanied the seafood platter ($45 for a huge generous serve for two!) was not oily at all.
They usually have waitstaff there who although their second language is English and you might have to repeat yourself, make an effort to make you feel welcome and provide extra water or whatever you like. Very friendly staff.
The only complaint I would have is the higher price of bottled wine there. I know that everywhere you go, a $20 bottle of wine from the bottle shop is resold as $45+, but with the bar and the bottle shop downstairs, you would assume it would be slightly cheaper as you cannot BYO.
They have a deal on Sunday for $55 all you can drink. I will have to double check that. If that's true then i'm sold.
The restaurant is actually at the back of a pub on the second floor. We were a bit early and had the drink at the pub where seems a bit dodgy. We might never walk into this restaurant if we didn't buy a voucher from livingsocial.
We are pretty happy with the food and the service. They usually charge around $90 something for the seafood platter but we reckon it probably worth a little more than what we paid for on livingsocial in other restaurants. Overall it's not bad if you had a voucher for the seafood platter deal.
Had a fabulous seafood dinner here last night, the fritto misto was beautiful & fresh, the mussels with lemon & pepper were to die for & the lovely waitress was very attentive & efficient. We love eating here & make this a regular stop on our annual holiday.
We used a coupon we had bought on line. A $99 seafood plate for $49
Food was good. We were plesently impressed.
Always absolutely beautiful. Ask Veronica for the best dish of the day! U won't be disappointed!good job guys!

Seafood Platter for 2. I impulse bought a seafood platter for 2 Scoopon when I was hungry for some seafood a few weeks back and received the most amazing meal I have ever had. We were given a generous bowl of prawns and scallops in a mildly creamy white wine sauce, 4 succulent oysters Kilpatrick style, a huge bowl of mussels in a slightly spicy tomato, chilli and wine sauce, 3 of the most succulent and flavoursome fillets of fish I have ever had in my life, and not just any old fish, this was proper fish, a generous serving of perfectly cooked chips with 2 or so dozen calamari rings and a nice serving of balsamic glaze dressed salad.
The Scoopon dictated that we could choose from a bottle of a few different wines or Sangria or that non-alcoholic wine, but the staff were happy to accommodate for the fact that neither my partner or myself were interested in alcohol or the other beverages, so we were given the choice of any of the soft drinks they have on tap which was served in a generous schooner type glass.
I was also worried that the establishment may not let us choose anything from outside of the Scoopon and pay on top but they were happy to serve us a delicious, steaming bowl of wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli as well as some amazing dessert which we struggled to fit in and one of the finest hot mochas I have had in a long time.
Our desserts were sticky date pudding in hot creme anglase with butterscotch drizzle for my partner and brandy snap basket filled with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry coulis. The sticky date pudding was to die for, hot and soft, I found myself having dessert envy. My brandy snap basket was tasty, the ice cream tasted like it was made with proper vanilla beans and the raspberry coulis tasted like the fruit it depicted but the basket was just almost but not quite. I am glad I chose it as I have been meaning to have a brandy snap basket to mark it off my list of things to try, but I will go through each of the dessert items and try them first before I pick this one again.
All in all this was one of the most pleasant and enjoyable evenings I have had out so far with my partner and we left with very full bellies and a rather small bill. Also, the karaoke going on downstairs on this Friday evening was somewhat amusing when seated upstairs in the restaurant but even more so when leaving via the stairs right next to the blossoming singers.
The chicken involtini was amazing! Yum!
Simple the best rump steak
Tasty Food espically the Steak and Chips!
THE BEST PASTA WITH POLLO!!!. The best pasta with pollo!!!
I went in for dinner today. I have never gone to a restaurant where the waitress, the boss and the bartender were so friendly and available anytime.
I ordered a pasta with pollo. The pasta was very delicious and I don't remember ever having eaten a pasta so good !!! I finished my meal with an affogato and frangelico. The coffe was special!!! I recommend everyone to go in this restaurant!!!
Family Function Success! We.... Family Function Success!
Went for my nephews christening. Set menu of bruschetta, seafood platters, barramundi followed by brandy snap baskets. Good food , good service and an excellent venue for the occasion. Don't often go south of the river but I'll be back.
Great food and Coffee!. This was our first time visiting this restaurant after friends of ours recommended it. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals (the Baby octopus was amazing) and the coffee was delicious! We enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we think we're going to book in here for mothers day. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
What a find. Best seafood in Perth. Seafood platter is divine and the coffee was superb. We are going back for more and taking friends
Dinner here is usually delicious and affordable. Hubby and I dine on deal vouchers for the 2 course meal. The procutto entree is fresh and tasty and the baked cheese is also nice. There is a large selection of mains which suit any palate. Our favs are chicken involtinni, rabbit, risotto and surf n turf. Desserts are good but coffees they need a little more practice on! Restaurant can b quite noisy on Saturday nights. SS offer week day specials which include half price Wednesdays! Great value, get out there and check it out. Elvis kicks off kareoki but their tunes r a little out dated ahhh
Very good. Saturday night, date night with my guy. His choice so I was worried.
Walked into a lively and newly refurbished bar and wondered where the restaurant could possibly be? On asking we were politely directly to stairs tucked away in the back corner. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who swiftly showed us to a table. Our meals (Bruschetta, Baked Camembert, Pork Belly and Mushroom Risotto) were exceptional and all very reasonably priced. Coming back next Thursday for the half price Seafood Platter.
A Happy Birthday Surprise. My partner was given (and generously shared with me) a birthday voucher for dinner. We went the with givers of the voucher and had a near perfect experience. Both the bar staff and waitresses were prompt and friendly with their service. The shared entree's were beautiful and 3 of the four mains ordered were great serve size and flavour. Only the eggplant seemed a bit vinegary by reports. The desserts (yes birthday boy couldn't say no) were again appropriately sized and all said to be very flavoursime. Can't understand why only a 58% rating as we'll go back for sure. Then to top off after the meal, downstairs for some Karaoke which in all ways entertaining.Practicing on the singstar and we'll be back
Great food, nice place and excellent staff
South St Ale House. Good food, nice restaurant great service
Was in on saturday night and was greeted by a lovely young waitress who was very attentive! The food could have been better but she was on the ball at all times and made the dining experience worth it :) i'll definantly be back if shes there! :)
We have been visiting the south street ale house infrequently over the past 18months when we were introduced to the spot on a scoopon voucher. It used to be great!!! The voucher was for a seafood platter for 2 and was seriously good - 2pieces of salmon, 2 white fish, prawns oysters scallops and mussels with chips and salad. We just came here again in the same deal and it has severely gone down hill... There were now only 3 tiny pieces of fish and a measly 6 tiny squid rings compared to the beautiful baby squid that used to be served. The side Veges were over cooked and horrible compared to what we received the first time too.
You seriously wouldn't ever pay full price at this place and maybe they have started to skimp on their meals as a result of starting all their voucher deals....
No good guys - really need to pick up your game!!!
I went to the restaurant upstairs and really enjoyed it. Great value, perfectly cooked and heaps of choice. We had the seafood special and the Marsala chicken and they were both gorgeous. The atmosphere is lacking, but it's great for groups.

Went here for the 1/2 price nite on wednesday and had the chilli mussels which cost $11.50 and thought it was very reasonable. Obviously its a pub so service is minimal and I'm not sure I would want to pay full price for it. But for a cheap mid week pint and a decent feed I shall be going back.
Came here using a voucher. Awesome food and great value but service was a let down. Good while there were only 3 tables but they lost it at 5. Expect to wait a long time to receive a dessert menu even then we had to ask ourselves.... And taking dessert orders for items thy don't have.... Oh well. Lovely food!
Great Food, Great Price. Went down here for the Surf n Turf internet special and really enjoyed the meal. Nice pub with separate dining area upstairs away from the main drinking area, making for pleasant surroundings.
The food was excellent and I will certainly be returning.
The SPECIAL price was excellent value for money.
They have got the mix right.
Waitresses down to earth. Ambience a little remiss with sound exposure, but food very good and out to the table quick!
Will be returning in future.
Good Boozer. Avoided this place for ages an I'm a local. Mate dropped in from over east and wanted to have a few. I decided to walk down to the South St Ale House one Sat afternoon at 5.00pm. We did not leave until stumps, great place to have a few an have since been back. Sad to see the most negative views coming from expectations of magic from cheap deals. This place is not in an up-market location but more than meets expectations.
Keep those beer prices down an I will be in there with a heap of mates for my birthday.
What you would expect from a restaurant in a pub. Went to South Street Ale House for dinner on a Saturday night - 2 couples using a scoopon. The room was full and there were several large groups so it was noisy. The room is a bit barn like and lacks character.
Our waitress was bubbly and helpful - when she didnt know the answer she acknowledge this and went to seek the answer.
Our scoopon was 2 entrees to share and a main meal each along with a bottle of wine for $90 - we got great value for money despite the fact that the entrees were disappointing.
Entrees were calamari - 6 pieces of calamari on a bed of salad with a dressing which was not memorable, and the second entree was dips with bread - again nothing memorable. Luckily for us the mains were superb - 2 surf and turf and each steak was cooked as requested - 1 rare and 1 medium rare, seafood plate - well presented and yummy, and lastly pork belly - much enjoyed!
Wine was very acceptable.
We ordered dessert and paid the difference - not bad!
Had a fantastic lunch, super tasty and lots of it, will be back
We went for meal with a scoupon voucher and we were very surprised with how good the meal was! An amazing seafood platter with a good Bottle of white! 8/10 for food! Service was so so and the pub downstairs is a little annoying! Try it out!
Tops. Been here twice with coupons, definitely the best value we've experienced. Both times an excellent meal and good wine with unobtrusive service to match. Looks like an overall good menu with some great deals so will be going back. A nice spot for a relaxed drink and a good meal.
Love the food here, from the steaks to seafood very tasty large portions, everyone is friendly and chilled atmosphere. Can get a bit rowdy bit that's all part of the character still no dramas here. Fair price drinks as well. Free parking. I'll go again for sure.

Dined there Friday night. Very friendly staff (informative and helpful too). My partner and I shared the Friday seafood special. Very tasty. Well cooked. Great value. We have no hesitation in recommending the venue or the menu choice. We're sure to be back.
Hidden gem restaurant upstairs. Friendly staffs, yummy food and great deals 🤩
Family of four last Wednesday night for our first visit and was superb. Didn't use 'Frequent Values' $25 maximum off the total bill offer (20 percent discount) as Wednesdays are half price main meals (one per person). The wife had the veal parmigiana, I had the veal schnitzel, the daughter had the alfredo and the son had the penne bolognese. Only a half hour wait for meals to arrive via the pleasant wait staff. Delicious food all round with just the right amount to tide us over till breakfast time. For some reason the young waiter completely forget about my entrée, the cheesy garlic bread but when it came time to pay we were too full to fit it in so no real drama there. Stuck with only the water supplied to save on funds for this first experience so all up only charged $50.50. Where in Perth can you feed a family of four for a tad over fifty dollars! Can be a little noisy if all tables are full but we seemed to arrive just after the peak period at 7:00 PM so the crowds dwindled to a more cozy atmosphere. Will visit again as the venue is really quaint and lots more to try from the seemingly delicious menu/wide selection/affordable prices.
Just ate for the first time at the South Street Ale House and was particularly impressed with the high quality of the delicious food my friends and I ate. Special mention must be made about Flik whose customer service was excellent and friendly. We will certainly return back soon!
Have been coming here for years and the staff have been great, the food has been excellent and these days, we schedule our steak sandwich lunch meets here.
