Review Aroy Thai South Freo - Fremantle

Philippa Udy
We are Fremantle locals, and Aroy Thai is our go to place for yummy Thai food. Great portions, prices and flavours. Probably dined in and ordered takeaway 50 times from Aroy Thai, and have never been disappointed

Wow! Best thai i have had in a long time. The vegie meals were chock full of chunks of broccoli. Fish servings were generous. Flavors were rich and plentiful. Best of all the vegies in every fish were crunchy, fresh and not overcooked. Cannot recommend enough. Staff were also really great, kind and patient with out little boy who decided he would like to pay while we waited at the door. Our new fav place.
Katherine
Food was awful and price is unbelievable for what u get, what a ripoff place, also waiting for main dish was like more than an hour . Never ever come here again for sure. Not recommend at all

Tom yum very good.. pad Thai was amazing.. great service and brilliant food. And I’m super fussy! Reviews don’t do this place justice πŸ™πŸ™

Fresh and Tasty. It's new year's eve and only a few couples. Though the takeaway is just pouring out the door. The staff were super busy, though continued to serve with huge smile and kind words. Did I mention fresh and tasty. Serves are more than adequate, had to have sweets take away. Much to my surprise there was again a hint of the beautiful hospitality. Thank you for a most enjoyable meal.

Food poisoning. Never ordering from here again. Disgusting.

We Ordered 3 mains for takeaway. 2 were actually very tasty. We had all 3 no egg and vegetarian. The pineapple fried rice came with egg all through it even though our receipt stated no egg. When we called to let them know we couldn't eat it, they basically accused us of lying and denied that there was any egg. A good restaurant would of offered to replace the meal or something. But instead we just wasted $15. And won't go back now as there is plenty other nice Thai in Fremantle and surroundings to choose from.

Firstly excellent food . Brilliant staff. I would really like to point out to the masses. That people who have friends ,family and so on who have the same as mentioned already at other restaurants thai or not get on here to put down competition. I go to Aroy thai alot. And anyone who writes a bad word about them I will not believe it. As I have worked in the food industry before and am disappointed/ disgusted with what some people will do for a discount or free food and to put down competition. I would eat there everyday if I could.

We ordered takeaway after finding out our favourite Thai (blue elephant in freo) wasnt open. 4 dishes main dishes =$77. Containers were shallow and the beef dish was half filled with shredded carrot. To be honest the food was good but was very poor value considering high price and stingy dishes. I won't go back.

Don't EVER order anything from this place of you want your food to arrive inside 2 hours. I have never, ever, had such poor service from ANY restaurant I've ordered from. We ordered $150 of food at 6.10 pm. It finally arrived at 8.20!! Don't bother phoning to ask where your food is because no one speaks English and none one cares anyway. Absolutely terrible service. Avoid this restaurant like the plague.

Fast, friendly and pretty good food. It's the westernised Thai we have all come to know. The restaurant itself is very tired and could use a freshen up.

Yum! yum! yum! is all I can say! Been here a couple of times and will keep coming back! Great food and great service! We enjoyed every part of our meal each visit. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Really delicious! Tonight we tried the vegetable red curry, green curry and chilli basil fish stir fry! Everything was great and really tasty. We asked for our dishes to be quite spicy and they were perfect. Will definitely dine in or takeaway again!

My husband & I order from this restaurant fortnightly & it's definitely one of our favourites. The food is always fresh & very flavoursome. Our favourites are; Green Prawn Curry, Steamed Barramundi with Ginger, Stuffed Chicken Wings & Chicken Curry Puffs. We always get the food delivered & the drivers are friendly. Delivery takes 30 min to 1 hour (during peak times) but well worth the wait.

The service was great. Very friendly efficient staff. The food was a bit of a let down. Disappointing beef salad, red curry was very runny, pad Thai very sweet. The chicken sates were delicious, the best dish we ordered. Overall rather ordinary food.

Waiter was very friendly & helpful. I never usually write a negative review about food but unfortunately the food I had was very average! I had the rice paper rolls for entree which were ok, but the rice paper tasted slightly stale as were the prawn crackers. The Thai green curry was nice but slightly too creamy however the Thai beef said was very disappointing. It wasn't a traditional Thai beef salad that I was expecting which was a shame as I was really looking forward to my dinner. Overall it wasn't a bad meal but I think some improvements need to be made.

Had a take away from this local Thai place tonight. We have eaten in and had take away several times over the last 2 years and the service as always been friendly and efficient. Tonight I had my usual of tofu salad and coconut rice. This dish is very tasty, only problem is its never spicy enough, for take away this isn't a problem as I have plenty of chillies at home but if dining in make sure to ask for extra chillies when you order.

Had takeaway from Aroy Thai last night and sorry to say but it all ended up in the bin except for the Prawn Crackers., I have never given a negative review, had I read more negative reviews on this place I definitely wouldn't have driven the 15 minutes either side to get there.

Very good food provided by fun and friendly staff, with great customer service skills!
Been here over 3 times and never had a complaint. It's our local!!
Even had a cooking demonstration.. ;)
It is the new favourite spot.

The food here can be a hit or a missed. Ordered for takeaway a couple of times. The curry can be perfectly balanced or too thick. The staff are very friendly though, and they prepared the food quickly - so a plus if you need a quick takaway. The stir fry is quite good, but the pad thai is really dry. The pla lard prik is a bit soggy but I guess its because its for takeaway.

Very tasty dinner. Friendly service & great value. We enjoyed Stuffed Chicken Wings entree & Tom Yum Gai soup, with Pad Phet and Beef Salad mains. Will return...

Authentic Thai food. Tonight was the 3rd time I've been to Aroy Thai and this time I took my parents who are used to dining at their friend's authentic Thai cafe in Mandurah. Needless to say they were impressed with the quality of the food, the speed of service and thoroughly enjoyed the flavours. As with every time I've been to Aroy I loved the food and the service is always excellent. Don't let the quietness fool you, this is one restaurant that is sure to delight.

Number 1 Thai place south in the river. Everything I have tried is perfect, fresh and delicious!

The staff were very nice but the meal was bland, no flavor in any of it. Chicken Cashew stirfry was dry, massman curry tasted like dishwashing liquid and this was at 5.30. Chicken satay for entree was like eating bark.
Disappointed!
Gab
Wasn't that great for the price - food is bland/ the stir fry sauce is quite watery !
But I do like that they deliver

More exhaust fans needed. We have been to this restaurant several times, and are always pleased with the quality of food and service. However, last night, and the time before, after coming home, we realised our clothes were absolutely stinking of fried cooking smell. We had never noticed this on previous visits. I suspect the exhaust fans may not be working well at this establishment.
We have had to wash every piece of clothing, including coats today, as the smell was so awful.
Such a shame, as this was always our 'go to for a quick meal' option.

Thai curry. We ordered roast duck curry and pad thai.. and both are quite nice (.not very special though).. the service is good and quite prompt... overall can not say anything bad about the place.. but maybe since there are so many Thai restaurants in perth, it will be quite a while before we come back again..

Ordered jungle curry for two people. The lady on the phone emphasised that this is a very very spicy curry and I said that was ok as we wanted something spicy. I've had jungle curries from other places before so I thought I knew what to expect. I initially thought it was very considerate of the lady to warn us. However when we picked up our food and started eating it (takeaway), we discovered that there was absolutely no heat in the dish. So either they somehow didn't put chilli in the dish or dulled it down dramatically without checking with us first. Difficult to fix as we got it takeaway. Very disappointing, won't go back

Nice night - had a nice dinner here. Not outstanding, but solid, tasty, friendly service and nice atmosphere.

Good Food - Enjoyable Evening. Last night my husband, daughter, and her family enjoyed a lovely dinner at Aroy Thai. My daughter had been looking for Thai restaurant close to home, so when she found Aroy, she suggested we try it. We were pleasantly surprised to find a trendy, small, welcoming establishment. From the time we entered, we found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. We began our evening with fishcakes and spring rolls. For mains, we had two different chicken dishes (one spicey) and a curry dish. All the food was quite good and came to the table hot. For our beverage, we drank wine which we were allowed to bring in. We certainly plan to return in the near future.

Nice. 5 of us called in for dinner last night. Lovely little restaurant with easy parking. Service was great. We ordered Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Paw Paw Salad, Red Curry, Thai Fish Cakes and Spring Rolls. All dishes were very good and everyone enjoyed their meal.

Great food, great service. Went here on a Living Social voucher, and restaurant exceeded my expectations. Had the stuffed chicken wing, tom yum prawns, creamy fish in a "shell" (a shell of al-foil), a stir-fried duck and vegie dish, and black glutinous rice and coconut cream. We had to tell them to give us 1 dessert instead of 2 because we were uncomfortably full. The food was absolutely delicious with the fish the standout dish. The food really isn't that spicy but you can ask for the dishes to have more heat added. The other major plus was that the waitress gave us perfect service - she was attentive, friendly and informed. Such a rarity in an Asian restaurant!

Amazing coconut fish!!! We had a living social voucher for this restaurant. We love thai food. This restaurant didn't let is down. We had fish cakes to start and curry puffs. The curry puffs were huge and very tasty. For main we had the popular coconut fish dish, which was served in foil and we had chicken larb. The fish was absolutely delicious. I would go as far to say as it was the best fish I've ever eaten!!! The larb was good, although a little sweet for my liking. The dessert ( sweet rice) was gorgeous. We live in Hillary's however id definitely return to this restaurant. It's worth travelling for.

First visit. Entree was really good but the main meal was disgusting. Smelt and tasted like it had been cooked with filthy socks.
Sueseamcgowan
Fantastic. This is the best thai food we have had in Oz. Yes they do get busy but the wait is well worth it.
Larry
Not so hot. Booked a table for 7. Our second visit. First visit was fine, maybe a bit pricey, but food and atmosphere were very good. Second visit a bad experience as the service was very bad -- just one waitress and she had to answer the phone as well as attend to tables. Staff were busy filling take-away orders; we seemed to be second-class patrons. Not likely to go back.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Perth & Freo. Red curry duck is amazing. Owners care for their staff & customers, and this shows in quality food & service.

Fantastic!. I love this place! It's my go to special treat. I literally just signed up for urban spoon because I got really bugged out about a bad review on Aroy that I just read. Food is fantastic, fresh and the staff are AMAZING. Try this place for yourself. I would recommend the pad prik pow with cashews and pineapple, pad thia and the Barra is KILLA!!
This place has sole, keep it up :)

Exceptional ~~ Danyon & Paul. Went here for recently for dinner with friends, can't fault the customer service and food - it was exceptional. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Pla Lard Prik and both were amazing! The fried rice had a perfect combination of texture and flavours along with the Pla Lard Prik. My friend Paul ordered the Massaman Curry Jeh and the Sweet and Sour Tofu, he said he really enjoyed both dishes and that the tofu was brilliant.

Will definitely be coming back again even though its a 40 minute drive for us!
Carly
Not a huge fan. Food quality and serving size weren't great for the price paid. Curry Puffs and Salt and Pepper Tofu were oily, the tofu was bland. The Vegetable Green Curry was nice, but not amazing, and again, tiny serving. My boyfriend seemed to like the Roast Duck Curry.

Service was very friendly and polite, the girl that gave us our order even rushed to open the door for us as we were leaving, which was a nice touch.

Not sure if I'll be back, as I'm all about the food.

Poor. Worst Thai experience I have ever had.
Went down on saturday night, no one in the joint. Should have have taken that as a sign!
My girlfriend and I ordered number 31. Chicken with veggies and cashews.
No flavor, bland, over priced. I would have rather had 2 minute noodles, at home with my phsyo cat.
Also ordered a side of satay and soy sauce to give it flavor. They charged for this!!! Who charges for soy sauce....
I love Thai and am highly disappointed with the meal.

I had the fresh spring roll with duck and the green papaya salad, takeaway. The ingredients in the spring rolls were fresh and crunchy but there was only about two small 5 cent peice slices of duck in each one. They were really badly and loosely rolled and when I picked one up to eat, the bottom was completely split making it impossible to eat as all the ingredients spilled out. The other was the same and I think this was something that would have happened in the restaurant during the time they were being made. The papaya salad was terrible. It was swimming in juice and tastes only of garlic. I would not recomend nor buy either dish again

Back for about the 3rd time in 12 months or so tonight. Service can't be faulted and the Duck Curry is always a highlight. Gluten Free friendly too which is a bonus.

Was introduce by a friend of mine... Been there for a few times over the past few years and i can say that the food standards have their ups n down! But most of the time it had been really good! Highly recommend duck salad and sticky rice with fresh mango and one of their fish dishes! Services as well do also have their up and down! But i would have to say they need to pay a lot more attention to customers! Overall will definately go back!

Its hit and miss/you got to know what to order!!. I too live just around the corner..
and would like to make it my local, but Ive been too many times now and had average dishes or just not tasty.

I now know a couple of dishes that i think are tasty, still over priced and if i dont want to drive for my take away thats what i order, one of these being pad nahm prik phaow
(no 23 )

The thing is in Fremantle we have a gold plate award Thai restaurant that would have to be cheaper in price than the Aroy
So it will all come down to do I want to get in my car or walk around the corner....

Over-rated! We arrived just before 6pm & were the only ones there for almost an hour. Decor: kitch - plastic flowers to die for! Service : seated immediately & orders taken for starters, which arrived soon enough. From then on, it was hard to get any attention from the young Thai girls who mostly stood behind the counter, with their backs to us, seemingly busy & very chatty. Food: using Melbourne as an example, if this is what Perth has to offer in the way of Thai, they have a long way to go. Pad Thai had no noticeable veges present & was over cooked. Green curry was hot & Thai, but again lacking and prawns were well over cooked. If " sexy Tuna" is the best menu item, then this says a lot!

Well worth the visit.. Went tonight..My Japanese wife and my 2 teenage girls.
The food was so good.Tried a selection of entrees and 2 main courses with rice etc and my wife continued to slurp the sauce from thegreen chicken curry after she kept telling me she was so full.
We tried the house special Sago and taro dessert between the 4 of us and it was a fight to the end.
Will go again at the drop of a hat.

Hit and miss. The one time i've eaten in here it was really great. great service, great food. but twice i've ordered takeaway since (over the last 6 months i guess) and it has been aaah-ver-age. thai beef salad tasted like it was just some beef and onion coated in artificial flavourings and no salad. will be a while before i considering giving them another shot.
Gabi
Forever optimistic - always disappointed. We live around the corner from this place and would love to make it a regular port of call for takeaway. However, given the price of takeways, being more than $18.00 p dish it would have to be good to make it a convincing option.
Several times we've been disappointed and again tonight we tried, thinking we must make more of an effort to like it! Once again though we were disappointed. We think we've learned now to not do it again.

My partner's Pad Thai was dull and without any interest (A market Pad Thai would be much cheaper, and frankly better) Whilst my Seafood Salad which always sounds SOOO good - Prawns, fried fish, scallops and squids, mixed together with a spicy salad, was so incredibly disappointing. I had v v clearly stipulated that I did NOT want it overly hot, however what I received was a plate of really chilli hot and spicy raw apple, with a touch of seafood, pretty much RAW scallops and lots of raw onion.
It is so frustrating to not only pay more than you'd pay at the markets, yet finish what you can eat of the meal feeling hungry, dissatisfied, hot mouthed and ill tempered!
What a shame!

Mmmm stuffed chicken wings. Last night none of us could be bothered cooking so we headed down to Aroy Thai a great little local on South Tce. We've been coming here since it opened nearly two years ago and have seen it change ownership in that time.

We had a hankering for what we call Thai tappas! We pig-out on entres only. My husband and son reckon Aroy make the best stuffed chicken wings, devouring 4 each. The fish cakes were light and fluffy, the Poh Pia hot and crunchy, the only let down was the beef curry puffs - not up to their usual standard but still good.

In the past I haven't been able to get past the soft shell crab dish - its devine - but so is the Cripsy Fish salad topped with green apple and fresh chilli and the wonderful Green Papaya Salad.

Great friendly staff, excellent food at a reasonable price well worth a visit.
