Review Bengal Indian Restaurant - Fremantle

Ed Lewis
We've ordered a number of times from Bengal and always have excellent food. This last time I collected but they had got the order wrong. I called up and they quickly put it right by delivering the corrected items within 15 minutes. They even threw in some free naan bread! Obviously you don't want a wrong order, but when something like this happens it is good to see that it is put right without fuss, and quickly. It's a compliment to the management and staff, and shows that true customer service is how you deal with the issues and put it right.

Picked up many To go orders here, had a kingfisher whilst waiting if any wait, great food, great staff. Fresh and tasty. Just as good as mama India. Forget the markets Indian food buffet!

Below average food. Quantity and quality of food was poor. Staff was unprofessional. I am not impressed šŸ¤šŸ‘Ž

My experience was horrible. No one greats you once you enter, no one comes to ask for order even after waiting for 15 minutes. When you walk out complaining about the service they do not pay attention. I would never ever go back to them. Highly unprofessional and rude staff. I do not recommend Bengal Indian to anybody. There are too many other options available out there for great Indian food.

Awful "indian". Everything tasted the same. Everything was so sweet i didnt know if i was eating dinner or desert! Not a hint if an indian spice. The veg korma we got (which yes i know is a little sweet... but this was beyond) was made with frozen veg! And was $18.50! They were watery and mushy. The supposed medium bengali prawn curry (which wasnt) was $23.50 and was watery with a few tiny shrivelled prawns in it. The kofta was average. And with rice and raita that was over $80! So angry and disappointed i rang them and told them exactly this. There is much better indian around here. Dont bother with them.

Neat & tidy but very low quality food. Beef masala was very old nd smelly. Peshawari Nun was too sweet. Polao rice looks like yellow rice nd test like yellow rice. Most disappointment was they don't have any salad even they don't have traditional salad.

I went on a Tuesday with agroup of 7 people. The decor is nice and clean. For entrees we had Chicken cafreal, stuffed squid and chilli mussel. It was nicely spiced and very tender. For mains we ordered goan sausage pulao, goan fish curry, chicken vindalo and goat curry. The fish curry and sausage pulao was just divine. All the dishes were very nicely spiced (not overdosed with it) and could tate the goan flavour. The naan was fluffy and soft just like bread. This was the best goan food that I have ever eaten outside Goa. The service was excellent. Will definitely visit again with my office mates.

Best Indian we had in Freo so far!! Very yummy and prompt service!

Best Indian food in town. Every dish truly tastes unique. This place has so much heart, from their warm and friendly service, to their exquisite food. Why bother looking elsewhere?

In a backwater and consequently few customers. Donā€™t be put off though! Service and food excellent. Strongly recommend the aloo cumin and goat curry.

Ordered the meal over the phone and it was ready to the minute promised. The dishes were piping hot. The lamb Rogan Josh hit the spot and was nicely spiced if just a little milder than expected. The meat was good quality and beautifully tender. Onion Bhajis were lovely and crisp. Naan breads were a good size and value for money. My friends indicated similar enjoyment from their dishes of Lamb Korma and Beef Masala. Will definitely try this restaurant again

Loved the food!Ā It's kind of off the main part of Fremantle so not a restaurant you would bump into but the food was up there with the nicest Indian food I've had.We went on a Wednesday night for a birthday and it was very quiet (We were the only ones there... another couple came in as we were leaving). The Butter Prawns were amazing.... the Palaak Paneer was as good as I've had and the Fish Curry was nice too (Albeit my least favourite of the 3 dishes as I don't like Barramundi... but you cannot complain about the quality of the fish!).Ā The garlic naan as well was really nice... I could have had more!Ā Ā Would definitely go back again.Ā The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was the lack of atmosphere in the restaurant.Ā With nobody else in there and the music turned down to where you couldn't almost hear it... I felt like we were eating in a church.Ā I am sure it would be better though with more people on a busier night.

The Best Indian Food In Australia ā¤ļø
When I think of Indian food it's the Bengal Indian. . .
Free and quick delivery. . .
Great service and the pleasant music

Had a good night at the Bengal restaurant the other night. Food was good and the naan bread especially was one of he best I've had. Restaurant was quite empty which is surprising but I have no complaints and I will be. Ack in the future.
Tara Jackson
Pretty decent Indian food- chicken korma was really good, garlic naan was lovely, crispy and fresh. Service was good. Didn't enjoy the chicken tikka, but otherwise I would be happy to go back
Alexis
Best Indian I have ever had! Had the lamb vindaloo (the perfect amount of spice!), chicken korma, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, and the DELICIOUS onion bahjii's (perfect entree!). The naan bread is also perfection. If your looking for good Indian food this place is a must!

Great flavored food, friendly service, we just go there because the food is simple great.
The service is very customer oriented and attention to details based. Highly recommended

If food, flavour and authenticity are important then Bengal is definitely the one! Don't go there for atmosphere. Don't go there for ambience. Don't go there for crisp white linens and pristine conveniences. Just go there cause the food is really that good! Hands down best we've had outside of India. Highlights were the onion bahji, goat korma and the Naan......wow, the Naan is some straight black magic type stuff! Can honestly say I have never had better and I've been smashing Naan's since back back in the day! Bengal Indian..........WINNING!
Renato
The dine-in experience is not great (due to lack of atmosphere) but the food was very good. The chicken paneer and Dahl were both very tasty. The naan was ok, but I've had better. Great for takeaway.

presented tables, with their table cloths lifts the standard a little and saves. it from being your usual ā€˜cheap and cheerfulā€™ eatery. order was taken from the waiter who was relaxed and easy going but almost too. chose the Beef Masala which was cooked perfectly; the beef was tender and the. capsicum was soft. I am a great fan of coriander loved how you could taste it
Miha Lozinskij
Dropped in after a long while. Quality of food has considerably gone down. Lamb palak gosht so salty missing spice and flavour, navaratan korma super sweet and again no flavour. All out of balance. I used to love this place.
Gourmet John
Delicious! Had the Rogan Josh and it was one of the best Gourmet John can recall in recent times. Dhal was nice too, quite spicy but me likey. Courteous staff finishing move. Recommend!

Went this evening with my partner's family, around 8 of us. Small, quiet restaurant you'd easily miss driving past. When we got in, there were two other tables, but after about 15 minutes, they both left. It took our waitress ages to even come over and offer drinks. If we had received our drinks earlier, we might not of been so antsy with the even longer wait just to order our meals. Granted, we weren't pushing it, as we were quite happy conversing while we waited. Once we ordered, the food came out faster than the time it took us to order, which wasn't a problem, as we were quite hungry. Entrees were good. I had the paneer tikka. My table really enjoyed theirs as well. For mains however, the waitress clearly stuffed up my order of mutter paneer and put through an order of palak paneer. None of us claimed the dish, so instead of her taking it away, she said she'd put it on our table and we can sort later. Did not make sense, but we went with it. The kitchen said they could cook my dish, but it would take 10 minutes or I could keep it. As not to cause disharmony to the restaurant and my table, I agreed to take a dish I didn't want, which was my call. But what was distasteful was the waitress and kitchen brushing it off as if it wasn't an issue. I received no apology from either the waitress or kitchen for the mistake. A simple I'm sorry I screwed up would've changed my entire attitude--mistakes happen after all. Instead, I received an abrasive thank you from our nonchalant waitress that came off as if I just took a load off her shoulders. Not only that, I and my table never received a meal check, which is standard customer service, especially if someone has had an issue with their meal. So, I left the restaurant feeling quite sour. Will not be going back.

Very delicious inidan! Always enjoy the chicken masala butter chicken and lamb korma! The atmosphere isnt as good since they moved from the fire station but the food is still amazing! Great service been back several times!

I went to this Restaurant for the first time last night where I had the Beef Masala and Naan. The Beef was perfectly cooked and the spice level was just right. The Naan was fresh and crispy.

The table setting was well presented but the service was a little relaxed but that to be expected really since it is in Fremantle

My experience with Bengal Indian in Freo. The place tidy and clean, and the aroma of Indian food was nice , but the customer service let them down.
Upon requesting a particular meal they ignore your needs , understanding that Indian food spicy and chilli, but if they acknowledged your request of not spicy meal you still receive hot chilli meal which you unable to eat but you paid for

Best "Indian" around. We have been there several times and the food is always very good. Coming from the UK, I have a fair idea what constitutes a good Indian meal.
This is as close as you can get

Fantastic a must try !!

Genuine and delicious Goan food. If you are looking for a true Goan experience, this is the right place. Friendly and affable staff, great food and an extensive Goan menu. We had Goan Fish Curry, Chicken Xacuti, Goat Vindaloo and Sarapatel. First dine in, then takeaway. All homely cooking, with distinct tastes that bear no resemblance to volume cooked simmer sauces you find in common Indian restaurants. The bibinca also delicious, with the 10 layers all equally rich and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended. Carlos.

Fantastic. Authentic. nice service.

Where was our food!!. Had a choice of 3 Indian restaurants but we chose this one! Had a reservation for 730 but we where running late so arrive around 745, our table was not set but no big deal, it was extremely loud in the restaurant also, not a nice atmosphere,. My partner and I ordered 2 tales - simple we thought. We where having great conversations and wine (had the whole bottle) and realised not food had arrived. We asked the waiter where our food was and he is 5 minutes, it had not arrived in that time and not one person apologised.. We had had enough by 9pm and left, the waitress came after us and said sorry but it was too late. We ended up at a Tapas restaurant and received our food in 10 minutes. Please up your game, getting so disappointed with the Perth restaurants not being up to scratch.

Just moved to the area and so happy to find a great Indian close by. Free delivery to the 'freos' but dine in also worth it as its byo with the cheapest corkage in Perth! Samosas are a hit as they are first I have had in a long time that are not over salty

Best curry house in WA!. I am not a curry afficionado, but I do eat a lot of it, and every time I go to the Bengal I am completely blown away at how they manage to make their dishes stand out in terms of flavour. The meats they use in their meat dishes are always fresh and when they're not sending your tastebuds crazy with flavour and freshness they keep you topped up with endless papadams and plates of steaming rice.

Here's the kicker, notwithstanding the great quality of the food at the Bengal, it is incredibly affordable. My friends and I have a sort of curry circuit that we have been doing around town and between about 6 big hungry lads, we would have eaten through almost 10 curries with various side of bhajies and naan. At any other curry house, this monster feast would have cost us upwards of 50-60 each. Here it was only $35 each. I honestly couldn't believe how affordable it was.

You make a compromise on the location and ambience, but to be honest, good company fantastic food and very flexible BYO makes those concessions non-issues.

Finally, I must commend the service at the Bengal, so often in Perth you get terrible service from employees who either have no interest in furthering the business or simply no service ethic, but it is clear that the Bengal's head waitress, whose name escapes me has a strong interest in both and makes sure you get everything you asked for all at the right time and will honestly tell you what is good and what is better.

Love this place, wish it were closer to my home.

Lost its ambience. Food and service were great but not a fan of its new location.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
I wish I lived in freo so we can have this delish Indian delivered. The menu is wonderfully extensive - everything is so fresh and delicious. Palak Paneer & Onion Bhaji are my favourites, Butter Chicken was beautiful too.

Great food and impeccable service! If you like spice, be sure to try the vindaloo.

Had several takeaways now, excellent phone service, friendly delivery people and fantastic food. We are from the UK and been searching for a good Indian for a year - this one is very very good. Spicy and full if flavours, well cooked authentic and delicious , my favourite chicken tikka masala. If you like real Indian food you won't be disappointed :) keep it up guys
Gordon Cunningham
Consistently beautiful food that is great value! One of the best in Freo
Jay Martin
Good and reliable Indian - could be more spice for me, but lots of veg and gluten free options, all clearly marked on the menu, which is a winner.
Fred Smith
Very friendly and efficient service. Food was clean and fresh. I will go the "hotter" curries next time. Solid effort.
Robert Ibbeson
Food wasn't bad. As for someone saying "this is the best Indian meal outside of Scotland" They need to get out more. Service was ordinary, compared to a proper Indian restaurant in UK. We finished our main courses, and were totally ignored - no desert, or coffee was offered. Won't be going again

Go the banquet!. A group of about 20 of us booked here a few weeks ago. It was a big success! Despite us arriving in dribs and drabs over a 30minute period there was no pressure for us to order straight away and they were happy for us to wander about posing for photos while we waited for the rest of the group to arrive.

The food was a little slow to arrive at first and then as we started tucking in it came at us thick and fast. The food was delicious and with a couple vegetarians in our mist there was plenty of choice! The butter chicken was yummo and the garlic naan had a nice bit of punch! Lots of spice and plenty of punch. I would have like to have seen a "chefs special" perhaps something northern??

The service was friendly and coped with the group well and they didn't batter an eyelid when we asked the young waiter to take a few of the group photos for us.
GregnGeorgia
Quaint atmosphere but it appears more Mexican than Indian and maybe some music that wasn't from the 60's but rather something more traditional. Service was adequate...they leave you alone to enjoy your meal. $3 corkage ( would highly recommend idlewild SSB for a palate cleanser). Nice varied menu although the wine list was poor and they lacked a speciality dish (chefs choice). Overall worth a visit if you're in the area and a must try is the butter chicken and onion bahja. The korma wasn't great but the garlic naan was awesome with a stint of kickass! Also the spoons not great I got butter chicken up my nose lol overall a 8/10

Great experience for my first Indian meal. Great food. Great atmosphere. Good service from friendly staff. Happily go there again. Beautiful little restaurant.
Melissa
Is definately one of the best Indian meals I have had! The garlic naan had real garlic & real flavor. It wasn't too oily it was perfect. The curry was full of flavor & heat. Only fault is the flavorless yogurt sauce with the papadums. Staff were friendly, service was great & a lovely atmosphere.
Lu
Food is good although fairly pricy. 1 starter to share, 2 curries, 1 small rice & 2 nann plus 3 small bottles of kingfisher beer cost $98 on a Thursday evening. I felt for just nipping out locally for a quick curry this was way overpriced.
Seana
Great!!. It was my second time at Bengal restaurant. I really enjoyed last time and this time again. We ordered Bengal banquet and it was great! The servise was out standing. We definetry go back again.
Gilly Thrilly
My husband & I went to the Bengal last night (fri 20th) after reading good reviews I was quite excited to try this place. 1st aircon was not good! 2nd our entree came out really fast, hadn't even had a sip of my drink yet! 3rd entree was a bit dry. 4th main too quickly 5th lamb Rogan Josh, the lamb was tough 6th The garlic nam bread was more like a garlic pizza bread (not doughy) 7th no atmosphere-no music. Good things curry was tasty but standard, price was good $105.00 entree, 2 mains & small rice with 5 beers. Not recommend to go in summer, I won't be returning to the Bengal.

I went here tonight tonight and was blown away. The service is top quality and very friendly. The food was amazing and was delicious. The atmosphere is beautiful and is a great spot to enjoy a meal with a group or just as a couple. Love it!!!!
Karen
This is the best Indian restaurant I have tried outside of Scotland. So good that after dining in last night we have gone back for take out tonight! I really cannot speak highly enough of both the food and the service.

Best Indian Takeaway!. So I come to Bengal regulary on Friday evenings to get takeway for myself and my family. We love it! The Butter Chicken is like nothing I have ever tasted before, its simply amazing. There Beef Vindaloo is tender and lovely and spicey and dont even get me started on there Naan Bread, best in town! The staff here are lovely and friendly and always greet me with a smile.
Uncle Jesse
Genuine Indian. The Bengal has genuine Indian food and is not toned down to Australian tastes if you ask for it Indian hot. I love the chicken vindaloo, its one of the best ive had.
Miamla123
Delicious!. I went here on a quiet Thursday night but was by no means disappointed. I'm a vegetarian, and I really enjoyed the cashew kofta dish as something slightly unusual. The sauce was delicious. My friend had the vegetarian curry which was also really nice. The waitresses were really friendly and attentive. The only thing I could possibly fault is the fact that they seem to use garlic out of a jar for their garlic naans... which were still absolutely yummmmmmy! I will definitely be returning.

The Best In Perth. I definitely consider myself to be a curry connesseiur, and am happy to rate the Bengal curry house as the tastiest, best value Indian restaurant of the great many that I have tried. The food is beautiful, staff efficient and so friendly and it's easy to compare the portion sizes to the more expensive, food out of a jar type places that seem to be prevalent in Perth. Don't miss the Palak Gosht.
Ajjivikki
One of the best garlic naans in perth .....and more over the very good service
Mathew Tinson
Great!. Went here last night for dinner and was very impressed.
The vindaloo was nice and spicy like it should be.
Also had a prawn curry and a vege curry. Both were full of flavour and delicious.
Prices are reasonable and serving sizes are good. Defiantly wont go hungry.
8.5/10

A lovely humble Indian restaurant tucked into the old Fremantle Fire station (#2). we couldn't reduce our choices to any less than an entree, 2 meats and 2 veg dishes with naan.. We tried the lamb korma (9/10 lamb pieces were gorgeously tender altho some were still a little fatty); butter chicken (7/10 the chicken was slightly on the dry side and sauce not as creamy as we are used to); vegetarian lofts curry (8/10 lovely potato chick pea and cheese balls in a mild curry sauce, good flavours); palak paneer (8/10 the sauce was just enough spice and great flavours but the cheese was a little too firm); onion bahji (9/10 great flavours and dipping sauce); garlic naan (contrary to some reviews I've seen, this is one of the best garlic naan we have tasted! 9/10- lost point for some burnt corners). Overall very tasty - the food all came to our table piping hot and the service was good. My only disappointment was I had to ask for my own coriander garnish- but not everyone likes it so I didn't mind, cos I'm addicted to the stuff! We left full to the brim with 2 dishes worth to take away! Overall 8.5/10 and leftovers for lunch!

YUMMO!!. Found this place tucked away in freo.
Food was exceptionally good and reasonably priced - Service was fantastic and atmosphere was very colourful and vibrant.
Thoroughly enjoyed entrees, mains and dessert!
Highly recommended Indian restaurant!
FreoFifi
The right formula. Very colourful decor, moderately-priced good food, v reasonable wine and beer list, but book ahead on Saturdays cos it's packed to the rafters. Had veggie curry (bit bland), don't buy the rotis or naans (they're ordinary), but the onion bhaji, rice, Kingfishers and my other half's blackboard chicken special were just great. Better atmosphere than Mela. Service a bit slow when v busy but staff efficient and v pleasant. In summary, good value for money, a pleasant night out and we'll be going back.

Love Indian? Love Bengal!. Best butter chicken in Perth!
I'm pretty boring when it comes to Indian and often steer away from the piping hot dishes, but often I find the milder dishes are overlooked and are either bland or overly sweet.
But I was pleasantly surprised with the Bengal! Butter chicken was packed with flavor and was a beautiful warm colour.
My partner is on the complete different side of the spectrum and is a chili fiend. His choice was the chicken vindaloo and even though the result was a pool of sweat his taste buds were challenged and satisfied.
The restaurant is set in an old fire station and has a warm (but not on fire haha) funky Indian vibe. Fits with the Freo location.

Love it! Love it!

A little gem tucked away about as far west as you can get in Freo. Sensational food, perfect price & great service impressed my dining party & we all agreed that we'd be back. Great job Bengal, you do Freo proud guys.
Kitty
Yum. I've been there a few times and the curries are lovely and tasty. Have also had takeout as well with the same results. Would eat there reguarly if I wanted a good curry.
Beamer58
The Bengal was a long time favourite of mine, their dishes are consistently good with a unique atmosphere. There is absolutely nothing I can pick on, except for the fact that 6 months ago the management tried to increase seating capacity so much, that it was even difficult for it's staff to gain access to your table to deliver food. Extremely congested, what a shame.

The Butter Chicken was good, but the meat was not as tender and the flavour not as enjoyable as other restaurants we have visited. The Naan was delicious and actually was one of the highlights of the meal for me. We ate beef masala as our second curry, and although the flavour was fantastic and the beef was very tender, I found the capsicum (green peppers) to be undercooked.
