Review Telegraph Hotel Restaurant - Geelong

Firstly the ambiance is so welcoming and beautiful. A great place to go on dates or bring families. The bar has a wide selection of Wines. Their food was delicious and the serving size is quite big, so you will definitely leave the place satisfied. The staff was friendly and approachable

Great food and selection of wine - will definitely come back! Ordered Housemade potato Gnocchi (which was incredible with crunchy chips on top and a wonderfully flavoured cauliflower puree) and a lemon cake for dessert - which was also brilliant.

So glad we are back to dining out. The atmosphere and menu at the Telegraph is amazing. We had the pan seared scallops, followed by the crispy duck - yummy. I think I’ve had nearly everything on the menu and ever been disappointed. The food is wonderful. A great selection of beverages- I like their Prosecco, it’s not too sweet. As for the service…what a happy friendly lot they are. Good job guys.

Expensive, not much portion. I ordered duck and it said comes with asian salad, it came out bunch of coriander which i can't eat. feel like waste my money. Didn't even say on the menu it will be full of coriander.

The Telegraph is one of the most beautifully appointed hotels I have seen in a while. Very chic decor and modern hues - the furniture, art, mirrors and whole place has been very thoughtfully placed to make your wine or dining experience a TOP NOTCH one. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I cannot rate this experience highly enough. Do yourself a favour and pop in!

Delicious food, great local wine selection and beautiful interior and ambience.

Delightful dinner with duck being the "Go"! Beef cheeks and chicken scallopini were very good. Wine selection was plentiful. Service was great and the evening was enjoyable. A good spot to share with family and friends.

The telegraph provided a lovely function upstairs for my grandmas 80th. The staff were amazing! Food was delicious. The owner graciously gave her a free cocktail which was very kind. Highly recommend.

Ordered a Parma for dinner, for $27 I expected something a bit more sub par that was delivered. Chicken size was small, the chicken was dry, chips that came with it we're soggy and the salad had zero dressing and looked like it had been sitting in the bottom of the bin all night. The time it took from placing the mains meal order to then it was delivered was unacceptable. The beer was cold, but only had the one as the wait staff stuffed up the order. Empty glasses and plates were left of the table the for our entire time there. Won't be going back, won't be recommending to anyone in a hurry. Cheers for a rubbish night out.

Came in tonight to take my mum out for a late birthday dinner. Service and food was excellent and the cocktails we ordered were wonderful, wouldn't have even guessed that our bartender hadn't made them before! So yum. Our waiter/s were lovely and attentive too. We also didn't realize we were the only people left in the venue and that staff were ready to close, but we appreciated being able to finish our drinks without being rushed. Will definitely be back again.

Thanks Rhonda and Sam and all staff for a fantastic night celebrating my 60th birthday. Rhonda you were so accommodating in planning and nothing was too much trouble. The ambience, food and service made my birthday celebrations so memorable and enjoyed by myself and family and friends. I would highly recommend the Telegraph for any special event. Forever grateful...Jill

We had my fiancé’s 30th upstairs last night and I have to say the customer service from all staff was nothing short of phenomenal! The manager Corey was so welcoming and attentive he couldn’t do enough for you. The food was excellent with not a crumb left. The beers were ice cold and only the best brands. Do yourself a favour and book your next event here, you won’t be disappointed.

We had a great meal downstairs with good service, but was a little disappointed with our experience after that on the rooftop bar. There was a private function next door who had no control of their kids. They were running around all afternoon and threw something that nearly hit my wife in the head. Management made no effort to control them. Eventually we left without finishing our food and management still didn't notice. An unfortunate end to an otherwise great lunch

Wanted to say a big Thank you to the chef and staff for catering to an odd dietary requirement tonight. They provided an option that wasnt on their standard menu and The meal they provided was full of flavour and very enjoyable. Again thank you very much :-)

First time eating lunch at this venue had a few yummy dinners before the renos , beautiful pork belly, yummy prawn and calamari starters full of flavour, look amazing too, visual feast :) Well done to the staff today‼ even though the place was full this cold winters day and food we ordered came out quickly. Love the renovated space cannot wait to come visit again

My dish yesterday- tempura fish of the day - was absolutely delicious, I ate every single crumb and appreciated the genuine variety of Vietnamese herbs in the juicy carrot salad. I can't stop talking about it today!

This place used to be amazing but the last few times I have been, which have been spaced 6 months apart, it has been subpar. I thought maybe taking some time away from here would mean maybe I was deluded but I’m not. Chicken is consistently dry, desserts containing caramel remind me of burnt toffee as a kid and it’s all a little over priced. <br/><br/>Haloumi Chips and Cauliflower Croquettes though are always a winner and what saved this place from a one star review from me. Next time I will stay home and reminisce about what used to be a high quality meal instead of spending my money.

We were celebrating my mum’s birthday her (party of 13 plus 2 toddlers ) Food was alright. I probably would have rated this  place 4 stars if we were not treated appallingly. Our waitress tripped and knocked into my 2 year old niece who was on her mum's lap. As a concerned mum, she advised her politely,  "please be more careful”. I could hear the waitress mutter “get fucked” under her breath. This is unacceptable treatment.<br/><br/>Our waitress also stuffed up one order (we ordered Tempura Rockling and got nasi goreng in the order instead). In actual fact, we ordered  2 Tempura Rockings but was short changed with one Nasi Goreng instead. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but when we requested for the order to be corrected our waitress insisted we would be charged for the nasi goreng anyway because it was our fault the order was incorrect. So we decided to just accept it so as to not cause a scene on my mum’s special day. She then told us they’ll fire up a new serve as they had served the nasi goreng to someone else.  It seems to me like a lost opportunity to correct an order at no cost to both parties and keep your customers happy. All it takes was a  little effort in altering the order to Tempura Rocking  in the POS system.<br/><br/>We won’t be back for sure

Unfortunately doesn’t live up to the hype or the price. Ordered king prawn linguini which came with about 4 large prawns and some spaghetti in tomato sauce and some cherry tomatoes. The portion was fairly small and taste uninspired and certainly not worth $34 price tag. Other mains were equally stingy in portion size including the kids meals ($12 for fairly rubbery schnitzel and chips and $6 extra for a salad of a few pieces of tomato and lettuce for the kids). The wait for food took pretty long and the overall experience was underwhelming and poor value.

Lovely atmosphere for a working lunch, chose from the express lunch menu which at $21.90 also includes a drink. I went for the 200g Scotch Fillet and it was a good choice. When it arrived it was glistening and my mouth was watering. One bite and yum, it was cooked medium rare as expected, decedent "Cafe de Paris" butter on top, bacon and onion pieces and the most crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside potatoes. My collegue had the sticky pomegranate chicken and enjoyed it. My only criticism was I requested my latte at the end of my meal but it arrived at the beginning though wasnt really bothered. All in all a nice experience.

The atmosphere is good and the staff prompt and efficient. My chicken parmigiana was just ok, the tomato purée was straight out of a bottle and the breadcrumb covering was not cooked through. Others in our party had; the scotch fillet, just chat potato’s and no greens or salad; nasi goreng, good but that is all. The food let the place down which is a shame.

Better than expected! It doesn't look like much from the outside but came in for a weekday express lunch. $21.90 got me a shiraz and a 200g scotch fillet. The dish was fairly simple but executed well. Those crispy chat potatoes with the steak, bacon, onion and butter was flavourful and well balanced. Also tried the 3 cheese potato croquettes - they are excellent! Tasty and crunchy. Other than the limited parking, had a good experience. For dinner however, it may be on the expensive side, but I'll most likely be back

Excellent service, comfy spacious seating and yummy food. It was a busy night but we were well looked after and our meals were on the table in no time. Girl1 had calamari & salad as a main it looked amazing, Girl2 had the Chicken & pomegranate & I had the special Gnocchi with pumpkin, Sage, walnut with burnt butter LOVED IT. Have been many times & not the last.<br/>

Thursday night is oyster night $1 oysters for starters was great. Ordered the steak which was perfect apart from being served mildly warm as per the other 2 steaks served to our table. But definitely made up with the nice grilling it received.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Outside a little tired looking but inside great atmosphere and decor. Food was excellent. We had the chicken scallopini, rocking and vege curry (although maybe a touch sweet).
VegTreats
Busy place, nice food. Didn't offer a remarkable range of vegetarian/vegan options (1 vegan, 3 vegetarian mains). Yet, the vegan curry was delicious! Medium price range but did have to wait a while for service and there never seemed to be any waiters around...
Nicholas Renwick
Went for Mother's Day lunch. Restaurant was busy and maybe a little understaffed as we had to wait a while to order, but when the food came it was absolutely delicious. My sister is vegan so had the vegan curry. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered the gnocchi and nasi goreng. Both superb. The menu seems a bit pricey but once you see the size and the quality of the meals, it is so worth it. Great décor too. And friendly wait staff.

The telegraph is our local and never disappoints. The food is always great, the menu has a good range of dishes to pick from and the staff are always friendly.

I went for lunch with my wife and had the lunch special. Beef cheek sliders sooooo tasty with the pickle and my wife had the calamari salad and that was delicious. Highly recommend and will be back. The staff very efficient without being intrusive.
FineDiners
Friendly staff. My beef cheek was cooked well and was nice. However, my partner's steak was still very pink inside even though medium-well was requested, and my friend's steak was cold. Also, it took 45 minutes for the food to come out. Needless to say, we were starving.

We have been back a few times over the past 12 months and never been disappointed with our meals or service. We had a family dinner here last week, my salmon was amazing and our waitress was lovely. Id love to see some new items on the menu as I think it has been the same every time I have been, but overall great work.

Looks nice! The service was average & slow. It took forever for our meals to come out and when they did - they were disappointing! When you are paying top dollar for a steak - you expect it to be cooked correctly and be a nice cut of meat!
Foodiefan
What a shame....great service, atmosphere, wine list, crispy onion rings, good fries.....but. To butcher a dry crappy steak is not good enough for $35 & $38. We ordered 3 steaks out of 4 - the 4th being an oven baked chick schnitzel (waitress confirmed this)....steaks were way overcooked....a med/rare was well done & dry & grizzly. Woolworths blade steak variety for $35 !! 4 stars for attentive waitress, onion rings, fries & wine but zero stars for steak !

Terrific telegraph. We sat down in a cosy corner and the first thing I noticed was the mirror on the wall... It was stunning .. Well I must say mirror mirror on the wall which is the best pub in geelong... telegraph is the best one of all.<br/>We started with the Turkish bread and flatbreads with pesto and goats cheese dip as well as the olive oil and balsamic. I knew this was an enticement of an enjoyable experience to come.<br/> The waitress was happy and enthusiastic ... as soon as she told us about the specials I was sold on the rib eye ... It was absolutely delicious .. So tender and cooked to perfection... The onion rings .. Chips and mayonnaise.. Delightful. As for the dessert .. My choice of soft chocolate pudding with vanilla bean ice cream was absolutely incredible. As soon as my spoon scooped up my first mouthful I was addicted as the chocolate sauce poured out of the centre.<br/>The red wines was quite an experience with the Italian.. Due lune ..being my favourite.<br/>I am looking forward to trying so many more dishes on the menu and will bring our friends. Coincidently I ran into some friends from Werribee who were regular customers and to use their words ... This hotel is a hidden gem... <br/>Rosanna and Felix

This has been a fav for years great food great staff and the new Reno is great

There is a reason why this bistro is empty on a Friday night. Food was pricy and terrible and the service wasn't flash. Kept forgetting our drink orders and you had to chase the wait staff. Used to love this place, probably won't go back!

Great food and service. A bit fancier than normal pub grub, and worth the extra pennies.

Pub+. Since its reno this pub has raised itself above the pack. Some of the highlights are the Duck spring rolls,Beef cheek, seafood Fettuccini and all the sweets.Worth a visit.

Please please change the menu!!'<br/>Had the famous chicken scallopin but full of salty bacon !

Sugar in that salad!. I have dined here several times and their meals are very tasty, though they like adding sugar to EVERYTHING, so be wary of this. <br/>They are a little pricey, but pretty good all round and we do keep going back.

Good stuff. Went here in January 2014 with friends and loved the meals. Everything was cooked well and tasted devine! Good place for family, will be back.

Great meals, lacks atmosphere. Hubby and I dined here a week ago - the service was very attentive even though it was a busy night. We were seated quickly and our drinks order taken straight away. The hotel itself lacks atmosphere due to the bar in the main dining room. The meals were delicious though, I had the chicken with capsicum and cheese topping (served with crunchy coleslaw and potatoes); hubby had the pork belly special which needed a bit more crispiness, but tasted fantastic overall.<br/>It's one of the better hotels in Geelong.

We booked for our family Christmas dinner - 20 people<br/>We were given menus, then after making our selections, were told we had the wrong menus - they were replaced by menus with half the choices & none of the good stuff (no steak, duck & almost no vegetarian options)<br/>Service was pathetic, both on the floor and slow to bring out the bland and poorly presented food<br/>Aircon was too cold, then switched off completely, apparently there's no happy medium available<br/>Also, the kids menu didn't have dessert & soft drink included as they usually do, so you're looking at $20+ just to feed the kids<br/>Won't be back

A busy Fri night in bistro for mix of teens&adults.Last table by fire which was fine and service of drinks prompt.Found menu range great and teens allowed to order from kids menu which is not always case.Fish fresh and served with good salad and seperate bowls french fies.My chicken scallopini had delicious lemony/butter sauce.Steaks and parmis upmkt & well cooked.Austins Chardonnay suited all.Service was a little slow and waitress could have done with some help.Desserts were fab-individ choc puds and home made fresh lime & coconut ice cream wedged b/w two huge brandy snap cookies-Worth leaving room for.

Lovely place to eat and a good menu, enjoyed my meal will deff return

Will return. Went to the Hotel on a Friday night with family. The restaurant was busy but service was not a problem. Our waitress knew the menu and specials off the top of her head and explained everything with great detail. Food was a little slow coming out but worth the wait. Also had dessert which was beautiful. Will definitley return.

Went with a big group; two steaks weren't cooked to order properly and one side was sent back as it came out cold. Every parmy that came out was very average; especially for the $25 price tag
Rato
Service was ridiculously slow & my beef curry was pretty average. The menu sounded good but everything was so-so. Felt pretty bad for my vegetarian friend too as there were absolutely no mains on the list that were appropriate for her. She ended snacking on Turkish bread & chips. In this era, that is a little poor - most places have at least 1 or 2 vegetarian options. Not rushing back.

Friendly atmosphere, wide variety on the menu, good service, huge dessert portions! (And, they have gluten free parmi - what more can 8 say?!)
