Review Gold Diggers Arms Hotel - Geelong

Service and meals are amazing. The beetroot gnocchi is my favourite and will definitely order it again. My son had the steak and loved it; the meal sizes are generous . Booked the function room, the attention to detail, and meals service was exceptional . Thank you for making a special family celebration even better

I spent my birthday at the Gold Diggers Arms at the recommendation of a mate and I am so glad I did! The food was perfection. I got the pork belly, which was robust and moist with perfectly crisp skin. The caramelised onions, peas and mash gave it a home cooked quality. I also treated myself to a sticky date pudding, which was develishy sweet. The drinks flowed and we had plenty of fun. I recommend the Gold Diggers Arms to anyone who wants an exceptional pub dinner.

Dropped in for a quick lunch and ordered the Veal Parmi - finally a REAL veal schnitzel and not a flattened piece of cardboard. Juicy thick and the best veal schnitzel I’ve had for years. Friendly staff. Happy customer here.

Great local, but I’m not a local. We dropped in for a few jars before the Foo Fighters gig at the stadium and it was great! Chicken Parma was outstanding and cozy environment. The car park across the road is a winner too. Perfect pre drink place before footy or an event or just because!

A good quick my meal before a show. Really enjoyed their Beef Schnitzel. Served in plenty of time to get to the theatre.

Would never have found this restaurant if i hadnt scrolled past it on zomato! It's nestled in some quiet residential back streets!
Service was great! Food was above average for pub grub! We highly enjoyed it! Price for 3 people was $145 with an alcoholic beverage each! Would go back...

A local pub with restaurant quality food. This old pub is in the back streets of suburban Geelong. Humble from the outside the interior is warm with open fires in the dinning room and an old English feel in the bar. Good handful of beers on tap and nice wines to match the quality meals. I ordered a steak and was impressed with the cut and selection of sides. If you're after a quality pub meal with service to match then this one ticks the boxes.

Tender rump steak with golden chips and a yum garlic butter and fresh salad. Flash fried calamari with fried corn salad and ranch dressing. Both delicious and so tasty. Service was knowledgable and friendly - a classy pub that is comfortable and welcoming.

Great pub, friendly staff, warm and welcome atmosphere and great foo.. My family and I turned up without a booking and were given a table from diners who were just paying and leaving. Our table was cleaned and we were sat while the staff reset the table around us. Having just moved to Geelong we had absolutely no expectations. The food was amazing, simple yet sophisticated South American fare. My kids were offered kids meals that were not listed on any menu!
I have been back to this pub many times since for food and just a beer.
Great pub with a really nice feel.

Disappointing. We Visited the Gold Diggers Arms for dinner in their bar area on 3rd September 2014. We had been there previously for great schnitzels on Wednesday Parma nights, which were always crowded and popular with the locals, serving nice food at reasonable prices.

It seems that there was new management in place, with with a new menu and staff. The bar was very quiet when we placed our order for a chicken schnitzel and a chicken tortilla. 40 minutes later, our food arrived. We were not sure of the reason for the delay as I believe that no other meals had come out to the bar area in the meantime. When they did arrive, we were astounded to find that both meals were stone cold. We don't normally like to make a fuss and would have said nothing if the meals had even been luke warm, but the meals were inedible. My partner had to return the meals, with new ones being brought out within 10 minutes. The waiter apologised but by this stage, we were pretty disappointed by the whole experience. I don't think we'll be going back in a hurry.

Unimpressed. Arrived to find phone reservation not recorded despite giving mob number. Seated near doorway. Service less than outstanding . partner ordered thick cut chips which arrived hard inside. Stated so when asked. No offer to take off bill and refused to when suggested it would be appropriate. Never going back.

What a Shame. How do you turn wild Barramundi into mushy slop?
How do you make a scotch fillet and vegetables into Roadhouse quality ?
Ask the the kitchen staff at the Gold Diggers Arms.

Quality dining in your jeans,Newtown pub. We turned up at 6.45pm without a booking on a Thurs night.Plenty of parking-pub packed with locals in front/a wine tasting about to start in back. Noisy front bar did not disturb the two of us in rear dining room where staff apologised for sitting us behind a pillar.(last avail table)Private& cosy but I feared we'd be forgotten?Unfounded-drinks& meals timely and delicious.Barrumundi was perfection(crispy skinned/moist and flaky flesh-Lamb shank ragout on pasta also melt in mouth. It was refreshing to see LOCAL wines on offer by the glass -$8 Lethbridge pinot. We spent $38 each on a really fine meal,a decent glass of wine and a desire to return soon.Prob best to book!

Staff were friendly, although not that helpful. Menu has big range which often indicates horrible food. This was the case. Horrible, overpriced and small portions of oily plastic salmon, under cooked medium rare steaks, chewy calamari among other things. Of 10 people, 8 people disliked their meals. Previous visit here were exceptional. I don't know what has happened?!?

Good range, but pricey. The specials and usual menu provides plenty of variety. But I expect a place that charges anywhere up to $40+ for a min meal to provide a piece of bread (the only bread they have comes with the dips) and a napkin that's a bit more substantial than a tissue. I also expect wait staff to know that Coffin Bay (as in the oysters) are from SA, not Tassie. And thanks for pointing out the oysters are freshly shucked - so they should be - but that's no excuse for shell pieces on every damn one.

Tuesday t-bone night! Can't go past it!! Even allowed to have it in the restaurant, not just the bar

Very limited menu & way over priced, Food was horrible.Staff were friendly though

Great value. Bar meals are amazing value and really good quality and size, the restaurant is certainly no pub meal. Really good menu and excellent service, staff do a great job. The pub itself is worth visiting, even if you're not hungry. Just like being in the UK, might be Geelong's only true residential pub, bit like stepping back in time. Full of locals and aged routien, if you've time to just enjoy your surroundings this is a great spot to do it in.
Mensday Evening
Mensday at the Gold Diggers. The Gold Diggers was the venue elected for our Inaugural Mensday evening for 2012. It coincided with locals night and featured the spinning wheel amongst an array of special parmigiana's on the menu. We would have been mad not to try the specials menu and two of us tried different parmas and were very happy with the results. The size, well it was as big as plate and full of flavour. A great friendly crowd and we will be back. good prices on beer too. We give the vibe 8 out of 10 and the food and drink 7 1/2 out of ten.

Have only eaten in the bar. Best quality bar food in Geelong. Stock standard bar menu, which varies slightly from time to time. There is usually a current special, and also a couple of $10 meals. Very friendly staff, fast service, live music Friday/Saturday nights, $12.50 parmi night on a Wednesday (several to choose from), a beer garden, several TV's with various sports, TAB, and the glasses are chilled! Great place for a casual meal, and offers all that a good pub should. Restaurant menu is a fair bit more expensive, but a lot more sophisticated.
