Loveliest Japanese food in Geelong! Definitely one of my favorite place to eat in town. I've been going to this restaurant ever since it's just opened and I still go there! The food never disappointed me, can't find any good quality Japanese food like this anywhere in Geelong. Staff are lovely, food is amazing, and the restaurant totally gives out a very Japanese vibe! Love this place, keep up the good work! :)
I'd been looking at Tomodachi for a while, and finally got the chance to eat there yesterday. In a word? Delicious. In a few more words: service staff are wonderful, orders are taken quickly - and explanations are provided for those of us unsure, and there's a huge variety of drinks.
As for the food, it's perfect. Quite possibly the best Japanese I've had. We ordered bento boxes, gyoza, and chicken. It was all hot, fresh, and super tasty. I think I've found my new favourite place; can't wait to get back there.
One of the best izakaya bars I’ve been in Victoria. The waiter provided us excellent hospitality. Hands down for the delicious food, it’s absolutely amazing. Guys, don’t miss out this restaurant in Geelong!
What a hidden gem...a friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant. The service was fantastic....the staff were very friendly and it was the nicest Japanese food that I have ever had. Friendly, approachable owner who recognised us straight away when we came back the second time around. Delicious, authentic Japanese food and drinks. Good selection of Sake and Japanese alcohol. Will definitely come back! Gonna pen this as our regular Japanese spot
Found this place today, hidden away off the main street. Great and cheap food which is very close to some of the great food I had in Japan, surprisingly so. Thanks for lunch guys, I will definitely come back.

Tried the karaage tonight at my first visit along with the miso and rice. Best Japanese restaurant in Geelong. I've had miso in Australia before but this along with the okake on the rice took me back to Japan�. Will definitely be back to try the lunch menu. 楽しみにしてる‼。食べ物と日本語の練習のために。

The Gem of Geelong! The food is amazing and the staff are very helpful for those that aren't quite sure on what to order with what, and the drinks to go with the meal complete it all, will be coming back again and again.

I visited this place with my friends from university, and I love how they treat and think about customer's feeling and position. Also, the chef of tomodachi was really enterprising and it makes me quite satisfied. I really like the people who always keep the trust and philosophy of business and refers the customer's preference by giving some changes to service, food and interior things. Meaning that they respect the people's taste, habits and satisfaction.
They're delivery service seems quite quick and professional.
Anyway, I guess they are the only one Japanese bento and real sashimi provider in Geelong. I'm willing to recommend this place for my classmates who know how to enjoy the raw fish with sake, especially my Japanese and Korean friends.
Btw, it was interesting and surprised us that Aussie people enjoy the Japanese food with soup such as ramen with white wine or cocktail !!
Sushi here is sooo fresh and beautifully decorated!! I believe the chef has super high skills of Sushi. And most importantly, the place was clean and cozy. I think I can come here every day.
While I was traveling Australia, I dropped by Geelong, and I had a quite impressive feeling at Tomodachi. I've tried a tremendous kinds of Japanese food in Kyoto, Osaka and Busan almost every month. The quality of bento is quite well made. Ofc the bento in Japan, they use more like traditional ingredients for side dishes, but Tomodachi gives some good changes for Aussie people's taste who try the Japanese cuisine only for sometimes. I'm pretty sure if they invent some more simple and quick meal for young generations, it will be perfect since sashimi and side dishes are kinda uncomfortable for young people for quick meal. Lastly, I saw how people cook in the kitchen in person, and they are quite skilled and delicate especially for food plating.
Friendly staff with good service, delicious food and reasonable price, karrage chicken, eel, beef tataki was amazing, no complain, will be back.

The best Japanese in town! A variety of tapas like items which are well proportioned. Staff are super friendly in explaining the items and are good at suggesting how many items to order. They don’t try to oversell. The thin beef slices (gyu) with the sauce is the best. Small cozy place :)
This a simple Izakaya. Friendly fast service. Food is fresh and great value. Dinner and lunch menus differ with dinner more extensive. We keep coming back again and again

Really nice food. Enjoyed it very much! A little expensive and portions are small. But i still liked it very much and enjoyed good customer service and got to try new things and the alcohol menu was full of many drinks i will have to try in the future. Thankyou for a great experience.

I am always a little skeptical when it comes to Japanese places in Geelong, as it's fair to say that Geelong has had a poor track record of attracting (and retaining) authentic, high quality Japanese restaurants, which I find quite unusual. So I was excited when Tomodachi opened up, so I have had the pleasure of a few visits now to form my opinion.
Tomodachi bills itself as a casual Japanese eatery, like an Izakaya, although it doesn't quite capture the authentic "feel" and the smells, hustle and bustle of a busy Izakaya. On the few occasions I have been, I felt the shop needed to be a bit more warm and cosy, instead it felt a little sterile and cold.
The dishes aren't revolutionary - it's a pretty standard staple of gyoza, tempura, croquettes, karaage and other more exotic things like baked scallops. There is also a selection of sushi which is also quite standard fare. There is also a revolving specials menu which looks a bit more adventurous in terms of its selection, so regular customers might want to choose this.
They aren't cheap, but having said that, the meals are very tasty and authentic, and well-prepared. There's Kirin on tap, and a selection of Japanese and other beers.
I think overall Tomodachi is a winner, and it's nice to be able to drop in casually and enjoy a mixed platter of Japanese favourites over a pint (or three) of Kirin.

A delicious, quick and easy dinner with great service at Tomodachi! We enjoyed each of the dishes that we ordered and shared. Crab croquettes, gyoza, karage chicken, tempura fish and vegetable and salt pepper beef! All washed down with an Asahi... The service was lovely and accommodating despite being very busy. We will be back for sure. 4 stars
I have travelled to Japan twice and love Japanese food/culture. I was not let down here. My wife and I sampled about 6 dishes and every one met amd exceeded our wishes. Although I may be writing this because of the brilliant Sake and Asahi I am still feeling. :)

Great service, everything that I have ever ordered has been full of flavour and very appealing. Reasonable prices.
If I have to give one negative comment about the place it is at lunch they do not do sashimi, which is a surprise as it is so easy to prepare and is also quite disappointing really.
But hopefully management see this and they change the menu by the time you who is reading g this go there.
Ohh and the other bonus, they totally get gluten free and are happy to alter a dish for you if they can.

Very good, lots of options and all decent quality. One little issue is that the place doesnt accept Meals and Entertainment card (common for people who work for not-for-profit)
Tomodachi was a place recommended by friends that have been here for lunch before. I took there advice and went in for lunch over the Christmas break and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The location totally suits the type of restaurant bar and the unique outlay of the place was fantastic. The price and quality of the food blow me away and what topped the full experience off was the kind happy service that the waitress gave to us all!
I'll definitely recommend this place and come back😀!
Second week in a row I've been to this cool little Japanese bar. both times I've thoroughly enjoyed both meals with extremely reasonably priced lunch menu that will satisfy most, it almost feels hidden the street that should soon erupt. Could not fault!!
Been here twice now in the last week. Both times the food has been amazing (pork ramen then karaage chicken bento). Staff are very friendly and efficient and would highly recommend to anyone.
