Review Armageddon Cake Dessert Bar - Geelong

The cakes here have been amazing! I would give 5 stars but sadly, I’ll explain why. I’ve been getting the same cake for my birthday for probably the last 10+ years of my life and it’s my favourite cake of all time I’ve ever had. Unfortunately over the last few years or so it’s changed, the first changes were slightly minor in appearance and it still tasted the same but this year it was very different looking physically and the taste was different too (still a great cake just not the cake I’ve grown to love for nearly half my life) it does sadden me that it’s changed so much but I do understand that change is needed for companies to grow but I will continue my annual support for my birthday 🥳 thanks sweet indulgence

I thought I was doing the right thing by not ordering run of the mill cake for a special occasion. The girl who took my order was so friendly and helpful even excited to be discussing my options. My request was simple a layered cake with four layers, white mud cake and blue. Macaroons and drissle with a happy 21st plaque. The cake was a huge disappointment!! Buttercake not mud cake. Piping on the top looked like blobs. Macaroons were plonked on not even arranged and were sprayed with blue food colour not actually blue!! And white. Cake was two thick layers instead of four so no frosting in the middle! Plaque was stuck on the side of the cake not mounted on the top and was hardly readable. Would not recommend if you want a specially cake for a memorable occasion. I did not get what I asked for, what was suggested to me or what I paid for$$ Disappointed as you only get one chance at a special occasion 😕

The cake was delicious, however they misspelt my name and we had to fix it ourselves! also the icing on the edge of the cake was smudged due to it being too big!

If your looking for someone to deal with your bridezilla moments, to hold your hand, to go above and beyond, then go to sweet indulgence! There cakes are delicious, their designs are beautiful and they have the best staff.

Bought a dozen assorted cakes Thursday 3rd February 2022. Most were old and stale. The lamingtons were rock hard, no doubt made for Australia Day so I’d guess 2 weeks old. Wouldn’t buy from here again.

Special ordered a cake, paid extra for what I wanted, which I didn't get. Should have been vanilla cake with brown chocolate mousse on inside and outside. l got the vanilla cake, plus what was supposed to be brown chocolate mousse on the inside, however the outside was apparently white chocolate mousse. The outside was rock hard and the docket that came with the cake said it was buttercream. This cake tasted disgusting except for the sponge. It was not the cake I ordered either. I've been offered a store credit which I won't be able to use and have now been told I can get a refund if I return the cake which ended in the bin. This is a totally unacceptable response. I have used this company over many years and have always been happy with the cakes delivered. I have also recommended them many times, NEVER AGAIN!

Cakes and sides are good, but over-priced & small portion.

It’s pretty great here and one of the best places in Geelong for dessert. Thankfully they now have a bigger venue as the old one was just too small even with the extension. Love it here and have been coming since before anyone knew of it and it would be quiet any night of the week. Great to see how far this once hidden gem has come.

The cakes are amazing but the service needs a lot of work. Three people who ordered one after the other and despite the shop being practically empty, we received them 1 by 1 with a noticable delay in between.

We loved the atmosphere and the vibe the cafe gave. With the comfy sofas and various games, you’re bound to spend a couple hours here with your friends or family.

Onto the desserts, you’re provided with the option of a side along with your cake. We chose the apple, apricot and sultana crumble with custard and the red velvet cheesecake with vanilla ice cream. Both cakes were sickly sweet and each bite became harder to consume- thank god we got a half serving. The cakes were well presented but that’s all that had going for it.

Nice vibe, good cakes, friendly staff. I had NY CHEESECAKE pair with ice cream and butterscotch which is amazing 😍😍 better than brunetti that I got the other day. Would definitely visit back again

Super yummy cakes. Pleasant and very friendly staffs. Cool place with comfy sofa and some playing cards. They open until late which makes it even better. Been there for few times and they never disappoint me. Tried some of their cakes, all of them are just so good but the RED VELVET is the bomb! You can choose 2 sides for your cake, pick your own sauces, cream, or ice cream. Great dessert bar and always happy to come back.

Cosy and quirky cafe BUT we did not enjoy their cakes. NY cheesecake was tasteless with very thick biscuit base. The caramel sauce for the sticky date pudding was really diluted. Expensive too at $12 a piece. We only finished our tea and coffees but not the cakes.

This place isn't too bad. They have some varied and unique options. We had the Lamington cake and that was ok. I also ordered a red velvet latte however, that so-so... but each to their own.

This place used to be amazing. I don’t know what happened but the quality and service has gone down hill. We had the Mother’s Day Banquet last year and it was terrible. The cakes were served by a waitress from a big tray with a pair of tongs. It was like being at a soup kitchen. I’ve attached some photos of the way it was served. We didn’t even get a new plate at any stage and all had to share the one plate. The quality and presentation was very poor. I’ve attached some photos to show. It’s disappointing because this place used to be known for its quality cakes and service. Hopefully they can bring that reputation back.

Had a tasting plate delivered with Deliveroo and the cakes were delicious however the sides were a mess! The measly side serve of ice cream that we paid extra for was icy and looked as though it had been scooped into the container with a teaspoon. The ganache had spilt everywhere and mixed together in the container and all over the cake. Perhaps invest in lids for the sides containers? Overall a good dessert option but more care needs to be taken in the takeaway/delivery methods.

I am obsessed with this joint. A late night cake place serving massive delicious cakes?
There is literally no way I could fault anything in this place!
We had the sticky date pudding, lime and coconut cake, and mousse, which were all mindblowingly delicious.

If you’re staggering about in Geelong CBD post-drinks and need a sugar fix, Armageddon Cakes is perfect.
Great atmosphere busy little place but staff were accommodating. Had the sticky date pudding with a side of extra butterscotch sauce and ice cream, perfect serving size and absolutely delicious. Had heaps of fun with friends playing uno and loved the music choices. Top place can't wait to go back!

Came in at 8pm at the Tuesday night and managed to get a table for 10 persons 😳becuz this place is always full house if you're coming on the Friday or weekend night. Tried their sticky date pudding with caramel sauce topped with vanilla ice cream $12! It tasted really good.

Great cakes and amazing idea to have late night cakes! Gets very busy on Thursdays-Sundays so you have to call to book in! Maybe should open a second shop? Maybe in Waurn Ponds!
Ribena
A cosy place with a relaxed, homey environment. Great idea setting the table with a board game too, as you have coffee and cake. I loved the red velvet!

Love the quirky atmosphere here. The cakes are delicious and often will order a share platter when with friends. I love the assortment of vegan cakes as well. Very delicious and love ending up here after a dinner out.

Great atmosphere, terrible cake...
So disappointed. I had heard great things about this place. I love the decor, friendly staff, good music. But the cake was crap. We had the NY baked cheesecake and the vegan apple crumble. The cheesecake was dry and crumbly, lacklustre, not much flavour. The crumble was overwhelming sweet, with tiny cubed apples like canned pie filling. An utter waste of $20.
Chillihotsauce007
Great little dessert spot hidden away off little mallop street. Service was faultless and all staff were very friendly. Tasting platter of cakes wasnt too expensive and tasted amazing. White chocolate and strawberry smoothy a+.

Best dessert bar in Geelong! Enough said✋
Wouldn't miss out of their brownies or mousse cakes. Such a cute spot, atmosphere is just peace and quiet. Take your family or friends! Enjoyable with board games and what not. Love it here😊

Very good service, games available to keep children and adults entertained whilst waiting for your delicious desert to come out. We tried the tasting plate with the sticky date, New York cheesecake, vegan cheesecake, death by chocolate, apple crumble and chocolate and salted caramel mouse. All very nice with the vegan cheesecake being the standout!
Mariane
Had the sticky date pudding yesterday night and it was seriously orgasmic. The drizzle of butter scotch sauce took it to the next level, creating a soft and moist texture! I'm looking forward to having my own portion because my boyfriend and I were fighting for the last piece :)

Awesome cakes fantastic service and great vibe. It's all happening at Armaggedon Cakes. If you want somewhere different to enjoy cake and coffee/tea, you have found it. Loved the decorations inside, old fashion china and creative flair. What a gem in the Crown of Geelong.. I popped in last night and will be telling my friends about it. Well done.
Lisa-Ann

Not worth it. No greeting on entry. Dirty table. Awkward piccolo glass of milk for tea that was impossible not to spill on pour. Wouldnt it be more fitting to serve the milk in a cute petite jug?. Chocolate cake was ok but really $10 is ridiculous. Good for vegans and gluten free's which would probably spend $10 for the bother.
Bangers And Mash
A family favourite. Be sure to book, we go early to beat the masses after dinner. Banofi pie was to die for. Kids love the rainbow layer cake. Would go every night if I could. Yum yum yum

Anybody for cake night?. Armageddon is a wonderful space that is flooded with nostalgia and inspiration. The record player crackles out Queen and there is domino's on your table to create some sort of wonky tower while you wait for your chai latte. Little delicate teacups and plates, Nana couches and oddities all around. Then your peice of banana berry cake arrives and you sort of know why you end up here every week. The staff are lovely and if only they were open during the day I'd be there now.

Been here twice now & won't return. First time they didn't have a record of the booking & were asked to wait in the cold whilst they sorted a table. The second time (last night) they told us our booking was 45 mins as they had a group coming in at 8:45. We got our cakes at 8:30! Too bad if you wanted more tea & to linger. I appreciate that they are a business needing a turn over of bums on the seats but it put a damper on our outing. The cake sizes have also shrunk & although tasty, not worth the $10 price tag. We won't be returning.
Fcrick23
Overpriced arrogant tosh. $10 for average cake which they make out as being amazing (its not, good but not worth $10 a slice). Then they only let you have a table for 45 bloody minutes while they book someone else in? Rubbish customer service too. Im probably not cool enough for them.

My favourite place by far in Geelong. The cakes are amazing, the serves of tea seem bottomless and the atmosphere leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy.

An amazing dessert and coffee.... Good décoration and Time in this place!!!!
Hungry Hippo
Have been wanting to check out this place for ages so met a group of girlfriends here for a catchup. Absolutely delicious! So happy we tried it! I, like my fellow Hungry hippo had the mousse cake ,friends had the brownie and tasting plates and all of us were very impressed! Prices may have changed since a few of these reviews went up as our single desserts were only $10 each and the tasting plates $20. Warm friendly atmosphere, like going to visit nana for a cuppa. Definitely worth a try!!
Hungry Hippo
Being a major sweet tooth I've been dying to try out this place. Having a baby at home we decided to get a takeaway tasting platter. Not only were the staff extremely helpful over the phone but the cakes were delicious and made with love, especially the salted caramel choc mousse cake. Mmmmm...will definitely try this place again when our next cake craving hits :)

Friday Night. Desserts were just delicious, and the staff very friendly and welcoming.
Enjoyed it!

SOLD OUT. Had previously been here, and thought it was a lovely, quirky little cafe. But on our second visit found the staff not as friendly, most tables had reserved signs on(apparently us older folk need to learn how to reserve a table via Facebook....) we were patient & waited, luckily the turnover is fairly quick. You are not encouraged to hang around. It was still fairly early in the evening, however they had sold out of various items, as well as the cheese platter..... We were in a good mood, so went with the flow & ordered a tasting plate. All delicious, it was a shame the portions were so small. The idea is great, but a bit overpriced at $5 for a pot to tea, we thought we must have been in Melbourne. It was also a shame to see many people coming in after us but being told even more items were now not available & that they had actually turned coffee machine off. Obviously the girls were in a hurry to go home. Will think twice before venturing back, perhaps once we learn how to reserve our table via Facebook!

Can't believe I haven't been here before now. A gorgeous little place, and a great alternative to heading out for drinks on a Sat night, nice to be able to sit and enjoy a cake & coffee till late.

The choc & salted caramel mousse cake was simply divine, and despite what others have said, is the furthest thing from a 'packet mix' I have tasted! The coffee was good also - even the decaf was nice and strong!

The decor and ambiance are homely, inviting and warm, but the real winner for me was the service. Absolutely delightful as soon as you walk in the door - friendly, helpful and full of personality, takes your experience from good to great!
Andrea
I was really looking forward to trying the cakes here after hearing great reviews. I was so disappointed. I had the tasting plate. The chocolate cake we tried was dry and tasted stale. The service was great and the decor was kooky.
Jo
Meh. I was absolutely dying to go to this place when I found out about it, then once I had I wasn't disappointed, per se, just... I suppose neutral.
Yes the cakes/ desserts were delicious, but nothing I couldn't have made for myself, and so overpriced.
It's the kind of place where I would describe to people "yeah its nice" but personally, wouldn't bother to go back

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!. Must go and try for yourself as their whole menu is deeeeelicious! The settings are so cool to love it!

Just wanted to thank Armageddon Cake
for opening extra hours so we could use our Deal Cat voucher we had purchased. To go out of their way to please customers is something few businesses will do these days, wish more would be like this! We had a marvelous morning tea, the cakes were just delightful, and the lemon curd was by far the best I have ever tasted. You should be selling it as a sideline!
Such a comfortable, warm place, we cant wait to return soon.

Quirky cafe with a St Kilda vibe and a touch of grandma's kitchen. Delicious cakes, welcoming environment and friendly staff. My chocolate mousse cake was light and luscious with a yummy smear of salted caramel drizzled over the top. My husband had the red velvet cake complete with cream cheese frosting. The red velvet had a more solid, dense texture than usual red velvets but the flavour rocked! Plentiful portions with a variety of sauces, cream and ice-cream to choose from
Susan
Yumm apple pie. Went to cafe after a dinner out, the lemon grass and ginger tea just finnished it off and the apple pie was so tasty, could tell was home made, delicious. Very busy little place. A must try.

Yum yum yum!!!! This place has to be Geelong'a best kept secret. I went with a group of friends last night and we had an amazing experience. It's a very cute and quirky venue it made me I feel like I was walking into my Nanna's kitchen. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the cake's were incredible! The cakes are all homemade and delicious you can tell they have been made it a bit of love. Our group tried a few different items; the Chocolate & Salted Caramel Mouse Cake, Lime & Coconut Syrup Cake and a homemade pie. One of our friends is vegan and she was even able to order something she had the Rasberry & Chocolate Blondie which she said was amazing as not many places in Geelong cater for vegans. We will definitely be back!

Expensive, average, overhyped. So I finally went in to Armageddon Cake on a Saturday night after having heard about it from a few people. It seems the concept of a "cake bar" is a popular one, though I had certain expectations which this didn't meet.

The place itself is furnished with what appears to be op shop tables and chairs. I'm sure some people would find it quirky, but personally I didn't like that. I expect my cake to be served in a classy venue.

The menu is pretty sparse - there were 6 items. 2 brownies, 3 cakes and 1 pie (which changes weekly). Each was $13, which I thought was excessive.
There's also a tasting plate for $25, so I had that with my choice of 3 of the available cakes and came with ice cream, cream and raspberry, lemon curd and chocolate ganache sauces on the side.

The Sinfully Wicked Chocolate Brownie was quite tasty, though for the price it really doesn't fit. A brownie isn't what comes to mind for a "cake bar", though it gets top billing on the menu. I won't say that it wasn't tasty - it was. But it also wasn't $13 worth.

The Lime and Coconut Syrup Cake was also delicious - especially with the lemon curd. It was a simple cake, the lime was there but the coconut was less obvious.

The Chocolate Mousse and Salted Caramel Cake was my favourite of the three - rich, soft and creamy. I didn't even notice the salted caramel - it didn't taste salted to me. It was so rich I couldn't finish it.

In terms of presentation, the cakes were served on an op shop style plate which I wasn't terribly impressed by. The portions were acceptable for a tasting plate, but the visual appeal of the cakes was lacking. They really look like something I could have easily made myself.

They have a variety of tea/coffee/hot chocolate, but none of it was very special. My hot chocolate was pretty ordinary - I've had much better from the now closed Coffee Circle (which used delicious rich flavoured hot chocolate from a Melbourne company whose name escapes me).

I really doubt this business will thrive, since its trading hours are few, and they really don't have much to offer - I know I can get some awesome (mass produced) cakes down at Wharf Shed any time/day that will equal or better what was served here in both flavour, selection, presentation and ambience.

Overall, I found this disappointing. I suspect there's some novelty to the idea of a "cake bar", though this certainly isn't what comes to my mind for such a concept.

Was looking forward to trying this place as a friend had raved about it. The setup was cozy reminding me of my nana's house but the food was a let down :( $25 for a tasting plate with three small pieces of desert , one scoop of ice cream and about 10ml of each of the condiments . The nectarine frangipani tart lacked taste, the sticky date was pleasant as was the coconut lime cake but the waitress was unable to answer a simple question about one of the cakes. I made a special trip after dinner to try this place I should have just stayed and had dessert where I was .

$$$$$ cake.... I had high hopes for my first visit....cakes where yum....but needed more cream, lemon curd ,ice cream not enough esp when you are paying $13 per slice......coffees where ok but my chai was not good just tasted with Luke warm milk and a sprinkle of spice flavor on top.
$59 for 3 slices of cake and 5 hot drinks, not sure it would be worth returning on a regular basis.
Geelong Bogan
Over priced try hard.... I was sitting in this "Dessert Bar" Saturday night thinking to myself what the hell am I doing here..
The cakes are $13...Yes $13 each for a small slice of something you could make at home with a pack of $3.00 cake mix. Despite what some reviewers say here the cakes are nothing special. Maybe just on par with McCafe if that's your style. The brownie had frozen raspberries, I'm pretty sure these were meant to be defrosted but anyway..

The only people that think this place is cool are "Geelong Hipsters" (yes we have those ahhaha) The deco is try hard Melbourne.

The coffee taste of burnt beans, I think they forgot to add milk to my cappa it was one of the worst I have had in recent memory. Give me an Aldi Pod Machine cappa any day over this watery mess.

And to top it off they ripped me off $1.00...

OVERPRICED!!!!. We had ordered a Evil Brownie to share, only one small scoops of ice cream and some raspberry sauce and charged for $13. Very plain chai latte, it's just like water with some flavour charged for $5!!!
The only thing was good is the service.

Great cosy retro vibe in Central Geelong. Sticky date pudding came with loads of butterscotch sauce and two scoops of icecream. Sooo yummy and chai latte was delicious. One of Geelongs new little treasures.
Nikademus
Yummy first for Geelong with a desert only bar full of vintage and retro. Sticky toffee pudding to die for. Great hot drinks. Geelong's laneway renaissance continues!
Jade Palmer
Cosy and yummy. Has a very relaxed atmosphere and delicious cakes, recommened.

As American as apple pie. Last night certainly didn’t disappoint – Armageddon Cake. Even the name is delicious. The interior is the finest op-shop decor. Messy, mixed, whatever the case its quirky kitsch and suits the novelty of a desserts-only cafe. I ordered the Apple Pie, with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream on the sly. The crust was unbelievably crunchy, but not tough, and the apple soft and sweet, with a hint of some type of berry sauce that I can’t decide on (somewhere in the raspberry category). YIKES … and yum. Alex had, and I quote ‘Sinfully Wicked Chocolate Brownie’, that looked (and literally, sounded) like the crunchiest brownie ever. She told me that it was crunchy on the outside and beautifully (there is no other word) moist on the inside. I’m siding with Marie Antoinette on this one. Let them eat cake (and pie). I was over the moon when I was told that Zoe provides the brownies on the menu at Armageddon.
