Review King Of The Castle Cafe - Geelong

David Sage
Would have to be one of the best casual dining experiences I've had. Every aspect shone, service, coffee and meals were excellent. All our 3 meals were delicious, beautifully presented and unique, It's just a pity we don't live closer. Will definitely return, many thanks to all the staff 👍

My husband had booked this place for breakfast. Great food. I loved the casual- cool brunch vibe. Ana looked after us taking orders and all. She was very friendly. The coffee was on point. Guys if you’re local please go there and try the coffee. Highly recommend this place. Hats off to the kitchen crew.

Honestly, the best breakfast we've had in ages! Also, it's the best cafe we found in Geelong. It's a great open, bright, light and airy space that's beautifully fitted out. Even though it's super busy the service didn't suffer at all - staff are so friendly and superb. Coffee 10/10 Menu is excellent. The scotch eggs were incredible! The breakfast tacos were top notch too. There's lots of seating available inside and outside out front. It's definitely worth calling ahead to book a table before arriving. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed the excellent service by the efficient and friendly staff, good atmosphere, nice food and quick service. Several good vegetarian options. Green smoothie was excellent. Make sure that you visit this cafe when you are in Geelong.

Fried chicken burger was really good. The eggs were cooked perfectly on my wife's dish. Friendly service - relaxed vibe. Would go again for sure.

Enjoyed food and atmosphere with good vivid happy vibe in the cafe! My partner was treated as a bit unwelcomed with one of the unfriendly staff. Anyway, other than that, other staffs were all good and food was good too.

Great coffee (had the magic, not on the menu). Excellent, tasty food. Had the avo n toast with some bacon. Bread wasn't soggy and bacon was crispy. Loved the flavour of the dukkah. (Sorry for the horrible pic 😅)
Cherie Donselaar
Front of house was helpful, attentive and prompt. Menu had a wide variety of savoury and sweet dishes and treats 👍 Ordered the Pork Scotch Egg, absolutely delicious, egg cooked beautifully with good crunchy crumb. Very balanced dish with tasty baked beans, mushrooms, goats cheese, seeded mustard and sour dough 😋😋😋 Lactose-free latĂ© was a smooth, dark blend, good temperature with lovely art. Awesome experience can't wait to go back!! đŸ€Ÿ

We've been here a few times, the coffee is spot on the staff are always friendly and courteous. The food is usually really good but today wasn't - we had the omelette and soup. Unfortunately the balance of flavours didn't work, maybe just an off day because we all have one of those. The omelette chilli jam was way too sweet and overall for both dishes the flavours were bland. Nevertheless I would recommend this place is worth a try.

Wonderful food, along with excellent, kind & friendly staff. Couldn’t recommend anymore for brunch & breakfast. Also delicious coffee too.

Went here today for lunch, had the omelette and the king chicken burger. Meals were quick and super delicious, staff were friendly, even if they couldn't dance ïżœ would definitely recommend if your in Geelong, we'll be back

Coffee was excellent and the sevice was great. The staff were friendly and attentive even though they were under the pump. I ordered the salmon sushi bowl and it was generous and delicious. Well worth the 10 minute wait for a table. Oh and absolutely loved the 80's dance music!

Excellent is the best word to describe this place. Every single staff member was friendly and informative with our waiter having an expert knowledge of the items on the menu. If you like tasty organic food and an inviting atmosphere this place is for you.

Great place with friendly staff with excellent food and coffee. We were here for lunch. The little Havana was amazing! I will return for breakfast in the near future i think

One of my favourite places to catch up with friends and family members over breakfast and lunches.Im slowly working my way through the menu, and so far have enjoyed every meal served with great service, and I would recommend King's to anyone I know!!👍 Also the coffee is very good, and I just love the warm berry chia latte's!!â˜•đŸ€—

Top cafe!!! This place is more a 4.5! Amazing ambiance, top music and friendly service. The only minor thing that brought the ratings down was the slightly longer than usual wait time for food (relative to other cafe experiences taking into consideration the number of patrons). Good coffee and even better food! Yes!! Go here fast.

You can always expect friendly service, great coffee ( best in Geelong ) and tasty food!
Highly recommend King of the Castle - thanks Robbie and crew! Just Magic!
The morning gym crew!
Matilda
Horrible experience, the worst service EVER. Staff were not friendly or approachable. Food is expensive for what is slopped on the plate. Waited 1.5 hours for food and didn’t even receive an apology. To avoid disappointment don’t go here. If I could give 0 stars I would.

An amazing venue with Asian fusion incorporated into their menu. Even their little a la crate desserts are to die for. We were out that way just for skydiving but glad we came across KOTC for their brunch

Second visit here , I returned with my vegetarian daughter , she had a fruit tea latte , tasted like hot strawberry nesquick very different . We were torn on what to pick I had the mushroom on toast but it was too much pesto and mushrooms for me however my daughter made her own breakfast and loved mine . So we split it perfect ..wish we had room for a cake

Compare the pair ( see photos below)
What was served vs what's posted on instagram

Disappointed. Is it petty, or do you expect when a cafe commits to having an instagram presence, they actually put out food that resembles what they post?

The dish below is the " Donut French Toast". No donut filling in the middle. No chocolate. Cream looking droopy and sad . $18 + public holiday surcharge for your troubles.

All in all average service as we needed to stop and ask staff for help to be seated , even though the place was half empty late arvo.

Coffees well and truly finished when the mains came 30 minutes later...

I wanted to love this place, but I'll have to pass.

Cool funky warehouse conversion in Geelong. Musics always pumping. Food good and so is the coffee. Price is slightly higher than other similar offerings.
Courtney
We had the Korean rice bowl, cheeseburger and a coffee. Food was delicious BUT coffee was very average. Place was nice and staff were really friendly

One of the best breakfasts in Geelong! Really friendly staff, a great atmosphere with pumping house tunes, light airy decor, and comfortable seats. I absolutely loved and highly recommend the brisket Benedict!
Steffo
Pretty cool place. Top notch coffee and service. Being an old workshop, the vibe is super cool and with nice decor and good tunes. Music could be a bit loud for some people but it is great for the young crowd. I was impressed with the proper iced coffee that they served me. The smoothie bowl for breakfast was pretty intense. Roasted cauliflower dish was a ripper.

The food is awesome but service is seriously lacking. Took ages to be seated, then longer to be served. I'd definitely do it again for the delicious food, but hoping it was just a single Saturday that they were understaffed.

đŸ˜±Lizzie’s first impression: For a town outside of the CBD, this place is bustling with people! We had to wait around 20 mins for a table.

đŸ©Lizzie enjoyed: The interior is so industrial and had a warehouse brunch vibe so it felt casual but comfortable. The stand out dish was the roti with bacon and tomato relish with poached eggs. Amazing.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: The waffle balls were nice but a bit disappointing as it only came with around 6 waffle balls on a plate and the rest was crumbled chocolate biscuit and fruits and dollops of cream. Their matcha latte was not as good as I had hoped, as it had plenty of latte but lacking matcha powder.

đŸ„‡Lizzie rates overall: A great feed for those venturing out in the new west of Geelong! Service is impeccable!
Ben 001
Very hipster. Ok coffee. Good menu, service but loud noisy. Poke bowl was so so and outdoor seating looks out to train lines. Above average for Geelong
Loz Arthur
Lovely cafe! Bustling and busy on a Sunday morning - had a 15min wait for a table. Great interior with super friendly staff! Ordered a chai latte and the smashed avocado. They were both top notch! The smashed avocado came unassembled which allowed me to choose the mix between avo, cheese and pesto. It was so, so good! Highly recommend!

I wanted to like this place- I really did. The venue looks fun and well decorated, but the food was a let down. My ramen was simply tasteless, with soggy noodles and no bite. I felt like I was eating two minute noodles made by a uni grad in the communal dorm kitchen. The King breakfast was also narrowly satisfying, with the dilapidated mushroom, mushy hash browns and low quality bacon. I didn't try the coffee but fear for the worst. I hope to be able to come back and give this place a second chance. Right now in my opinon it's no King of any castle, but a rather gastronimic court jester. And no one is laughing.

What an awesome little place this is! The fit out is so cool, I believe it was a former mechanics garage. Pretty hanging lights and pot plants, simple wooden tables, really funky vibe.
The coffee was good and service was great and with a big smile which makes everything better!
We had the Thai eggs which is a Thai inspired dish with roti bread, fresh herbs, chilli jam, bacon, Halloumi and poached eggs. It was absolutely delicious! The flavours all worked well together and roti instead of normal bread was a great touch. We also tried the Banofee Hotcakes which came with a big chunk of caramel which was super sweet and delicious. The chargrilled bananas cut through the sweetness and it was delish. I would recommend this place for sure đŸ‘đŸ»

Thanks for having me!

Lovely rustic venue. Modern and very hipster and wouldn't be out of place in Brunswick, Melbourne. The staff were friendly and the food tasty and well presented. The breakfast could have gone with a little tomato chutney maybe beans as overall the ingredients were quite dry. Otherwise I can't fault anything else. The coffee was great as well.

Great coffee. Friendly, welcoming staff. Delicious food - Nasi Goreng!
It was a little cool inside (winter!) & the roller door was wide open - but this just added to the enjoyment of the industrial/modern space.
No significant signage so look for the crown logo (it's tucked in behind the shipping container barber)
Loved it!!

Friendly staff, great environment! Food are great. Had the "warm beetroot + goats cheese salad" (very pretty and yummy, enough for 1 peep).👍

Just over an hour drive from Melbourne, in Geelong, you will find a fresh, new foodie scene developing on Victoria's Surf Coast. Geelong, previously know for being more of a labour trade town, has found new feet as an emerging cultural melting pot of food, beverages and entertainment. One such new found member of the foodie club is King of the Castle.
Featuring a newly installed commercial kitchen, the Castle has moved from sandwiches, wraps and good coffee to a classy, fresh menu featuring suppliers from all over the region.

You might miss it from the road so look out for the little crown logo, perched above the entrance to what looks like a shed. There's even a barber in a shipping container out the front so you can always stop by for your cut and a coffee!
Upon entering you're greeted with an open, simple space featuring plenty of large tables, booths, greenery filled planters and natural light. It's a clever design. The sky light above means there's natural light galore.

When it comes to the food, the menu is so full of delicious and healthy options that's its incredibly hard to choose. My choice of the salmon plate featuring crunchy quinoa and potato fritters, fresh salmon, peas and herbs was divine. I chose to add grilled halloumi due to a deep love of halloumi...I won't miss that opportunity! It was so light and the crunchy quinoa fritters are certainly crunchy.

Other options were delicious eggs Benedict on a bed of crumbed ham hock as seen above. The idea of having the crumbed ham hock instead of bread is genius and a modern spin on the usual eggs Benedict.
They're generous with their avo as well. Us millennials like our fair share of avo on toast and at King you'll find a whole half of an avocado with roti (something different but very welcome), chilli jam and goats cheese. It's divine and a great portion size.
I had to go in for the caramel slice in the cabinet and that was one of the best I've ever had. Rich, creamy caramel, a thick biscuit base and plenty of dark chocolate on top.
It's worth noting the Pana chocolate selection is quite vast if you're looking for a more healthy treat although quite pricey at $9 for a small slice.

There are more Vegan and GF options in the menu as well with the Vegan Big Brekky featuring scrambled tofu, facon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, potato quinoa hash ( optional sourdough).
There's Korean inspiration with a friend chicken burger with kimchi, Matcha waffles, Korma spiced beans, Thai eggs. It's quite a melting pot of cultures in one menu. If you're like me, you'll sit there for a while pondering what to have right until the last possible second!
King is an excellent place to come for a meal or just a coffee with friends and sit and chat for a while and enjoy the bustling hive of activity all around you.
For Geelong, this is exactly what it needs to take them into a new era of foodie culture. I can see it happening already and it's very exciting. Stay tuned....

King of the Castle opened in 2013 as a hole-in-the-wall café operating out of the storeroom of an old Geelong bakery. The brainchild of Geelong born and bred Robbie Lecchino, King of the Castle soon became the reinvented space of an empty panel beater shop a few doors down. Robbie spent several years working in the café scene in Melbourne before being drawn back to Geelong.

Glad we came here early as it got packed pretty quick. We were quite impressed with this place. The food was pretty unique, had some nice flavours too... we ordered the Thai Eggs and Bacon, and the Korean Breakfast. Tried a Frutti Tutti tea latte but not really a fan of it.

Also, not really a fan of the communal seating arrangements where a stranger is watching me eat from the other side, lol.

One of the best places I've had breakfast at. Good service, nice place with a court yard area. Tasty menu with amazing flavour combinations. There's also some bagels and sweets at the counter that's worth checking out.

Great little hidden gem in Geelong. I came here for a very early breakfast as I have heard so much about this place.

The coffee was good but the food was outstanding. I had the Korean breakfast on recommendations by the waitress and boy was I glad I had it. Flavours deliciously balanced - it was delicious.

Will be back to try some of the others on the menu.

Arriving to the King of the Castle you will be delighted by the industrial design and modern feel the cafe offers. The ambiance is definitely a highlight of this breakfast/ brunch spot. The service was excellent and the staff were very attentive to their customers needs. The menu was innovative and had a modern flair guaranteed to excite customers. I ordered the Korean breakfast and loved the concept of this dish. This meal however fell short in a couple of areas. Firstly, the size was a bit small and I was underwhelmed on it's arrival. By the name 'King of the Castle' I was expecting a larger sized portion. My dish had 1 piece of Korean fried chicken and 1 egg. 2 of each would have ensured I left feeling more satisfied and receiving value for money. The poached egg, chicken and potato cake were each deep fried and unfortunately on my plate were overdone. Meaning each of them were very dry and crunchy. Proper execution of the deep frying would have improved this dish significantly. The spicy BBQ sauce served with the dish had excellent flavours and was the star. It complimented the vegetables perfectly. The coffee was also great and had a smooth and creamy texture. Overall this cafe is worth a trip if you're in the area.

Not for me thanks. Ordered the french toast. Came out cold and soggy. Coffee was out within 5 minutes then had to wait 30 min for my french toast. Also purchased the for take away 2 pana slices which were stale.
Thank you but not for me thanks.

Edit: After coming here and trying again I'm so disappointed.

Espresso came at around 15ml and just above luke warm so it had become bitter due to being cold.

My (Nic) friend and I ordered the same thing, Eggs Benedict with salmon. The eggs were over poached with a completely solid yolk, spinach had burnt edges so the whole dish had an underlying bitter flavour and the hollendaise was lack luster.

I left the solid egg yolks so when the service staff (the manager) took my plate we could discuss it. He took both our plates and no one during or after service asked.

I commented on our lacklustre experience at the end finalising the sale which was met with an upologetic sorry as my card gets tapped.

Another time we went between this and my original review, we got a chalky and weak iced tea which we just left behind and didn't bring up at payment. We had someone just after we paid comment why we left the tea. We mentioned the above and were told if we said something they wouldn't of made us pay.

The salt in the wounds, it's 2017 and I know you can just refund me the cash back to my card you f*** face. Either say and mean it or don't say it all.

Original review (which was generous to begin with)

One of Geelong's newest 'Melbourne inspired' cafe's found at the end of Pakington street tucked away behind a barbers in a shipping container (never seen that before!)

We have visited a good number of times as we have friends and family in Geelong and overall have been pleased with the service from the staff and have always been informed of accurate wait times if they have been any.

Coffee is always flavoursome, served correctly and never overworked or weak.

Food can be hit and miss, I've had dishes which were absolutely beautiful and all round made sense but then have had times I've been served something which texturally was off or certain flavours were not balanced. Currently it also feels as if the menu is getting smaller in variety of "safe" options as I feel a lot of the dishes are adventurous but due to my off/on experience I'm not interested in going for an outlandish choice.

I will still come back here as out of all the times we have been here, each overall experience has been positive and potentially we've just been unlucky with catching kitchen staff on an off day or perfecting a new dish as I feel each time I do come here there is a new dish on the menu.

Driving through Geelong West, we decided to stop at this small factory converted into a cafe. With the roller door opened, I was cold. The fitout in this conversion was average. I would have used more black in the colour scheme and made it classier. However, we were there for lunch. I ordered the black sesame salmon with black rice and chilli jam. It was delicious. Everything was fresh and light and adequate. My partner chose the breakfast salad - peas, beetroot infused goats cheese and poached eggs. He thoroughly enjoyed the dish. And he enjoyed his coffee. The waiter was polite and very helpfu in our selectionl. So it was a success.

Great menu, open space, fantastic service. Geelong needs so much more of this. Very family friendly, even a water bowl out the front for the dog. We'll be back for sure.
Driving by in search of a brunch spot and this was the first place that popped up! Loved the ambience, friendly staff and great food. We had the omelette and also the Benedict. Was delicious! Loved the matcha latte too :)
Sandra
Food was pretty bad, eggs over cooked.
I was very disappointed.
Coffee was also very average.
Waiters were very nice compared to the owner who was not at all!
Won't be back there
Tania Huynh
Place is lively and vibrant. However, during our visit the poached eggs were extremely over cooked and I was surprised they would still serve it. Meals were overall ok but in terms of cost and portion sizes, it is too steep. Staff were overall friendly and coffee was nice.
Catherine MacLean
A trendy little hide-a-way that looks like it has been dropped straight from Melbourne into the hip Pakington Street. Love the lights and decor inside, and we were very well looked after by our waiter.
I was slightly disappointed by the menu, mainly because there seemed to be many salads and other dishes that I had seen online that didn't appear to be currently available. How regularly they change their menu, I do not know. However, the black rice salad was yummy, although I was glad I added poached eggs as otherwise I think it would have been rather light on. My friend was satisfied with the onion bahji dish, noting how well balanced flavours and spices were. We didn't see the halloumi fries listed but asked, and they did them for us. We didn't realise they would be $16.50 for the four large pieces though!
It would have been rude to to take a selection of Pana chocolate raw cakes and Ace ice cream cookie sandwich (both refined sugar free), and although you couldn't justify buying one everyday at that price, they were definitely a delicious special treat!

On the Soy Latte alone ....

We've come early enough this time ..... for their Soy Latte. Every Sundays we drove here and they are closed already.

This time, we are early enough to try their Soy Latte, made of Padre beans and La Marzocco Strada combo, yeap very well made at $4.50.
The place is not big, but was packed during midday, so we'll try their Menu if we can get up early enough to get to Geelong.
Foodiemelbourne
King of the Castle cafe on trendy Pakington St in Geelong was the second establishment my friend from Torquay insisted Foodie Melbourne visited on my Geelong tour, and she clearly knows my taste well. As soon as we walked into this cool, light filled warehouse, filled with hanging plants, cool modern light fittings and long wooden tables, I knew why this venue is buzzing. It’s the kind of place where hipsters can mingle with young families, and is big enough to be busy without being crowded.
Melanie SRG
Love this place and love that it has pana! Food is very tasty. Another great health conscious restaurant. Highly recommend this cafe if driving down to Geelong.
Tele
Great use of space. Brisket burger was very tasty but for 18-20$ something a little extra would have been nice. Good service. The rice quinoa ball bowl salad was a little bland not a taste explosion. The quinoa balls were delish but needed more in this. Would recommend

Excellent, a modernized hip cafe.

The coffee is very nice here, tried their different latte version which are.
Swoon me latte - mix of stawberry, apple, orange and beetroot, and, Match made in heaven - a blend of matcha, peppermint and vanilla bean. It was different and it actually tasted very nice.

I have also tried their Beef brisket burger, very tender meat, soft nice bun. The Brioche french toast which was also very nice. Can't forget about their sweet potato fries, it was crunchy and addictive.

Overall experience here is excellent, the food, coffee plus customer service were all excellent, enjoyed coming pass here.
The Notorious Masked Bandit
Absolutely love the vibe and feel in this modern warehouse style cafe, I smiled as soon as we drove past looking at this place!

I went with the eggs benedict with bacon on waffles, witch I had never tried before and thought it was a fabulous idea!
Never the less it was close to perfect, the eggs were almost perfect 8/10 followed by the beautiful hollandaise sauce!

The only downside was the slow meal time, I'm guessing due to the smaller kitchen size and what looked to be only 2 chefs!

Rebecca E
Great venue, food and staff! I had a chai latte with almond milk and the naked smoothie bowl. Great vegan and vegetarian options available :) the only downfall would have been the wait for the food. Quite busy though with limited chefs so may have been a once off experience with the waiting time.
Tim
I don't intend to sound petty, but we were disappointed with breakfast. The place was rather busy when we arrived, and we were told that the meal would take 20-25 minutes, which we thought was understandable. We got our meal 50 minutes after ordering. Scrambled eggs turned out to be nearly fried eggs. The ordered side of salmon was not there. That being said, the coffee was good. We might drop by the next time and give it another go if we are in the vicinity, but we wouldn't make a special trip there.
Hailey
Really nicely decorated, bright, open space. Staff were really friendly and they use Padre beans so the coffee is great. Had the banana bread which was lovely. Everyone on our table loved what they ordered. Heaps of vegan and vego options so something for everyone!

Went in a group of 6. We came all the way from Melbourne for their special latte . Before the meal we had already order a round of those special pink latte , purple latte , matcha latte , and friends husband says his cappuccino was good . Pretty amazed by the swoon latte and the purple latte . The purple latte taste more like a warm yam milk .

I have been wanting to go here for a couple of months now and finally made time to make the 1hr and 30 min drive to Geelong.

I was dying for the waffles I'd seen on Instagram but didn't realise the flavours change weekly. On Wednesday they had the 'orange blossom vegan waffles'. I'm not a big fan of orange flavoured food but so badly wanted the waffles so I ordered it anyway and was a bit disappointed. The orange flavour was only in one of the sorbets which was actually amazing, it also came with raspberry sorbet (so good) but the overall meal was a bit plain with just a few strawberries and blueberries. My friend ordered the ricotta hotcakes which were amazing! And we shared the sweet potato fries, the aioli was WHOA! and really accompanied the fries well. For the sake of trying them we ordered the 'Tea Lattes' with almond milk. These were so interesting and quite enjoyable but I wouldn't order them over my coffee! Damn I missed my coffee that day.

We did really enjoy our time at King of the Castle, the industrial feel is done well and the service is great. I really want to try the savoury items, like the vegan sausage roll and the chickpea patties! They sound sooo good!

P.s they had a puppy party out the front and there were all these beautiful dogs to play with it was AMAZING!!
Geelong Diner
I adored this place.

I'm working backward from the food, but please bear with me here...
We made a booking for a booth, which was a good thing as it was pretty busy.
The waitress was lovely. Water brought to the table. Coffee order to perfection, and it's great coffee. She was patient as my friend and I were too busy chatting to order straight away.

We didn't feel pressured - just more completely looked after.
The service was perfect.

I ordered poached eggs, bacon and hollandaise, which is what I like personally. The options are pretty easy as you can pretty much construct your own breakfast.
(It was lunchtime - but these guys understand brunch time. I think you can get brekkie items all day here.)
There are also other moreish items on the menu, but if you can't have eggs at midday (like at some places), I'm not interested. These guys get it.

My friend ordered the quinoa salad bowl. She termed it as spectacular.

Both came out quickly, and they were both well executed. My eggs were perfectly poached (a rarity in Geelong).

And the whole experience is fun. I spotted a few local celebs, I think, and overall the place is a great vibe of happy people. The furnishings are quirky and well designed, and it feels, it is, like a place you feel is "a find".

There's a barber van out the front (what? I know! but much fun to see) and it's not a pretentious place, more just a place that seems to realise that good food + good staff + good surroundings = fun for everybody.

Highly recommended. But don't tell all your friends. I don't want to have to book six months in advance next time.

Great place to get a good coffee in town, loved it so much I got another. The food was average and went cold really fast because of the open atmosphere

This was my first time came to king of castle cafe :( I ordered egg benedict with bagel. The bagel tastes really good but sadly I got an overcooked poached eggs which make me really disappointed. Even my friend's poached eggs also overcooked. Sorry â˜č I will nvr come back.

Having heard about this cafe on instagram I was interested to see if it lived up to the hype. We went in late in the afternoon so it wasn't busy which was good. Big and airy and that's a great start. Plenty of room. Service was attentive and fast. Food delivered quickly. Very fresh dishes and a reasonable size for the price, with excellent presentation. Plus isn't it a treat to have chai latte in a little teapot with the associated leaves/spices showing it is very authentic. Left feeling it's great to have a Melbourne style cafe in Geelong. I am looking forward to going back!

@kingofthecastlecafe #geelong where you can get a barber to give you haircut from the 50's post consuming your latte. Yes there is a barbershop in the front of the cafe within a caravan. Unique concept I will give them that. Breakfast well we were packed in a shared table so close that elbows needed to be moved with each bite, this is so we didn't get a red card from striking the other patrons on the same table. So that's the said major negative the positives were the whole half avocado on the plate which was a nice touch, plus the staff were nice enough. One other negative I found extras on a plate were a touch over priced. The plates themselves were heavy and fantastic like if Bendigo Pottery had squished #smurfs into the clay. I digress again, I would go back but maybe just for the coffee as it was exceptional. This cafe is all tucked away in the burbs in something only described as a car hold or as fancy people call it a garage, hence it's noisy so old ears would complain but I dug it. One more thing about the breakfast I don't know about you but I really dislike big mushrooms, personally I find they are a bit texturally meaty and look like ears from black bear post Yosemite hibernation period. #foodmypants #geelong #bendigo #kingofthecastle #food #foodporn #foodie

This place has a great atmosphere! The coffee and service is fantastic!! The food here is pretty good as well. But the coffee is a stand out
Poiuyt
They are on fire these guys. Really hitting their sweet spot. Staff are working well in sync, even with lines out the door and a slightly clunky table arrangement in the space. The food is ace, reasonably portioned and priced. Coffee sings, with ever reliable Padre beans. Takeaway treats are strong and the interaction with Austins & Co in house wine set up / staff works very well. Keep it up dudes!
Peaceloveandfoodiness
Good cafe that offers excellent coffee. However, the service is often slow and staff can be a bit cold. Furthermore some of the breakfast components lack flavour and their Cronuts have been hit or miss.
Patersani
Fantastic little find this! When I took my first sip of my coffee here I knew I was onto a good thing. Immediately I ordered another coffee as it tasted so bloody good. The service here was amazing, Jamie I believe her name was, was friendly, helpful, funny and caring. One of our clan had poached eggs which arrived hard boiled, without hesitation she took them away and said it wasn't good enough. She was amazing and someone I would want in my cafe, if/when I own one. The food was terrific too, had the Benedict bagel. If I lived in geelong, this would be my regular!

Still geelongs best coffee. So good. Waitress was rude & disinterested but I tell you what, that coffee is so good it didn't matter. Just love that bean juice!!!

I had the avocado on toast and my friend had the pancakes. The avocado toast came with sourdough, half an avocado in the skin, and a piece of lemon. The avocado had brown bits in it and was a bit hard making me think it had been cut the a lot earlier and refrigerated. Despite this the meal was ok however for the price I'd expect a decent fresh avocado.!My friend raved about her pancakes and the coffee was really good. It's a nice venue and I love the barber outside. Will give it another go and may order the pancakes this time :-)

Any drive towards the great ocean road calls for a hearty and tasty breakfast with great coffee that can seem scary to look for in Geelong. Luckily there are now a handful of specialty Cafes looking out for the coffee snobs of Melbourne.

Food Ordered:
Went for the classics, wife and I both ordered poached eggs on toast with varying sides of bacon, avo, feta and hash brown. The menu was fairly straight forward, I would have liked to see a bit more adventure with the specials. More bone marrow or pickled items, but I'm spoiled so it's ok. I will say, the portions here are great! Actually could not finish and that's rare for breakfast. Keep it up!

Ambience:
Not a good first impression trying to find a seat. No one welcomed us as we walked in and we were told to wait near a table to be seated, but there was no clear direction. We just sat down and a waitress came to serve us, so not so bad, but may be confusing when really busy or with a large group. It's in a warehouse, so tall ceilings, slight breeze and a bit of an echo to everything. The service was good after that and those I chatted with were lovely. Also, lots of succulents here for sale if your interested, feels a bit like a florist but I liked it.

Coffee:
Padre coffee served here. I drove all the way from Brunswick to have coffee roasted in Brunswick! It was ok, my long black was quite bland but still a black coffee. However the latte I had takeaway later on was great. Well incorporated and perfectly textured.

So out of the handful of options in Geelong, this place is a good one. Check it out most definitely.

Visited this gem whilst down from Melbourne and loved it. Very cool industrial space, great menu. The slow cooked brisket burger was incredible, I would go back just for that!

King of the Castle is an industrial cool cafe. I was really looking forward to breakfast here since they opened their kitchen. We had breakfast yesterday (Saturday) and were all completely disappointed with our meals. They were small, expensive and completely bland. When I paid the owner, I hoped he'd ask how the meals were so I could give some constructive feedback but he didn't ask and didn't even make eye-contact or chit-chat. Hoping it was just an off day for them.

To add to this review, we wanted to give breakfast another go here so we went again last weekend. We stood in the entry for a couple of minutes while staff ignored us & walked by. I asked the barista is we needed to wait where we were for a table or if we should just find one ourselves. He said to wait and someone would serve us. We stood and waited (with two other groups waited behind us) while staff passed without acknowledging us and had a chat with each other. After someone finally came over I'd decided to go elsewhere.
Edge Of My Plate
After we had arrived in G-Town we decided to head out for coffee and a late breakfast. King of The Castle started off as a little hole in the wall serving coffee to their customers on "Pako" (Pakenham Street). My friend tells me, it was part of the KoTC-team's 5-year-plan to grow from the hole in the wall to a cafe. Well, it didn't quite take them five years but only one.

Had coffee with friends and I wasn't fussed. Coffee tastes burnt?

By far THE BEST coffee in Geelong! Great atmosphere, great service, great people.... Totally addicted to this awesome place :)

When this was just a hole in the wall they put care into their service and their coffee was fine. I was loyal. I was regular. I found it appealing. No longer. My lack of hipster beard, fixie or elasticised chinos seems to have me categorised as no longer deemed worthy of (previously) polite service. Not cool enough? Does my pram offend you? No longer.

Great Coffee, Great service, Great fit out : 10/10. I drink my coffee black so it is hard to hide a bad one. King of the Castle coffee is my favourite. Hot but not scalding, rich in flavour and delivered promptly, the service has always been first rate. Keep up the good work peeps!

The king'. King of the castle cafe is the best coffee spot in geelong!! Trendy, great vibes, friendly and welcoming staff, as well as the best atmosphere to enjoy a fantastic coffee and snack! Do not go past this outstanding hot spot, if you want the best coffee and experience!!
Emperor Coffee
Appalling - just plain awful coffee. There was a single order in front of mine, so I had to wait a good 10 mins to receive my brew, but coffee this good is worth the wait, or so I thought. I had mine to go, and the size of the take-away cup was above average in size, and that might have been a contributing factor, because sadly this was, and I'm not even exaggerating, the worst coffee I have ever had in my life. It shares that title, however, and to be truly fair King of the Castle is not alone in this - I once had a McCafe coffee, and eerily it tasted exactly like that dishwater joke, I returned that one suggesting they had forgotten to add the coffee. Weak, insipid, insulting. Lacking robustness, complexity. Missing was any depth of flavour - it tasted like burnt milk with a very distant hint of the bean, and that hint left the palette confused and unrewarded, like a limp, flaccid lover unable to share my excitement. Avoid.

Too much hype.. I went here recently to see what the hype was about. Yep it sure is a cool venue but what I had heard about the coffee being the main focus of the owner wasn't true in my case. I didn't enjoy my coffee at all. Waited too long for it and it tasted like burnt milk. My partners was weak and cold. Too much effort put into other bells and whistles and really not much emphasis on the coffee after all. Shouldn't every coffee served be a good one when that is your claim to fame? Won't be rushing back.

Trendy new spot fit for Pako!. Great new place for coffee in Pakington street! Really cool decor and vibe. Loved the hanging fishbowls!! Also the mini florist in the corner. Unfortunately no menu (as of yet??) which makes it hard for people with food allergies, such as myself. Only pre-made sandwiches and treats. Otherwise, a place worth checking out!

Great coffee, friendly staff & some snappy tunes. What more can you ask for? Oh, the treats are delicious too...

The Best. I go for the relaxing neighbourhood vibe, the interesting pop up shops, the yummy Natural Harry treats AND, most of all, I go for the coffee. Long live the King!

Baffles me with people like "not completely sold" when you are aware that it was miscommunication yet you didn't raise the issue then and there but so happy to come on social media and dump on a place??? Prob would of taken 3 minutes to remake you one and toast it really! There's bigger problems in the world and your lack of cafe etiquette isn't one. I say when a cafe stuffs up then and there, do something about it then and there
Foodie151
Not completely sold. Such a cool atmosphere and interior!
Unfortunately I asked for a vegetarian croissant which they said they were happy to make and i received one with ham. Seems like a small complaint but I specifically asked for no meat and I was really hungry and my other friends already had their orders so it just becomes a hassle because of a simple communication era amongst them!
Would go back for their coffee but probably not their food!

Seriously COOL..... From a little hole in the wall to an impressive, industrial and vibing establishment. This place actually gets better and better the more you go. Funky staff, supports locally made goods, tasty coffee and FLOWERS!! I mean - c'mon!! Always packed, no matter what time or day of the week this place knows how to get people in the doors. A great space out the front for those sunny days and for the kidlets and puppies to run free. This is a go to for all sorts and I have a feeling there are bigger and better things yet to come....can't wait!

Outstanding service and coffee, decor and vibe is unbeatable.

Outstanding Coffee!. Stopped here for a quick bite to eat this morning and was delighted by the outstanding coffee! It was also really reassuring to see them using legitimate almond milk from the Almond Milk Co. for my latte, as opposed to the fake stuff in a carton! The Natural Harry raw treats were also delectable and my dad really enjoyed his banana bread! This place is so busy, so I would recommend getting here early to make sure you can get a seat, unlike me this morning!
Although the lady serving us was a little unorganised, all in all I was really pleased with the good coffee and the awesome decor and vibes of King of the Castle!

Wonderful. Perfect almond milk latte! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Just what Geelong needs!

Philip. Consistent awesome coffee every time!

The King of Geelong. Once you go here, you'll never step into another coffee shop in this town again!! Amazing is an understatement!
Bianca
Best coffee in Geelong hands down, and the barista is pretty awesome too!

The Best Coffee. Simple the best!
Consistent all the time every time!

The King!. No better coffee and no better barista in Geelong. Certainly a big statement considering the improvement in Geelong's coffee scene over recent years; but there's a reason why so many poeple are flocking to this place. And from what i hear, the best is yet to come!
Doublerosetta
My new favourite place. Wow...just wow. i have never come across a more genuine, talented and charismatic person as Robbie. It's not just about the coffee for me (although Robbie's are out of this world!) - the highlight of my day is seeing his smiling face every day. keep up the good work Roberto x

Good coffee comes in a (very) small package!... I was told this place was tiny... but was surprised by just how tiny it is! Coffee is great, however, and owner (I assume) very pleasant even on a roasting hot day. Will definitely make this a regular stop on the way home from the morning school run for a 'real' coffee. Another great coffee spot in Geelong, that's got to be a good thing!

What can I say.... He's good to look at AND he can make coffee...I'm sold. Geelong, you are one lucky lady to have King of the Castle

10/10. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience something a little different. Fantastic coffee & excellent customer service. Great job

One negative....many positives.

There is no way in this world you would see me work in a room that small!! I couldnt beleive how small it was! Short term pain for long term gain though.....Rob will not be there for long, slowly woed of mouth will elevate this guy to Castle a lot bigger than this. What a great little coffee place.........definitely what the other end of Pako needs for sure!

Don't expect a sit down cafe people....but expect seriously good coffee. Very very nice and we only went there as (a) we heard of it via word of mouth and (b) we ran out of coffee beans......

Only negative, I did watch a number of coffees being filled slightly from top of cup (1cm).....it wasn't a one off so obviously this is his norm...but for what's it worth I want a full cup!

I didn't bring it up though....the coffee was to nice to mention that....maybe Rob will read this and sort out this minor thing

Great little cafe. Bright,.... Great little cafe.
Bright, vibrant and relaxed.
The owner, Robbie, is a charmer and always welcoming and he makes a great coffee.
Well worth a visit if your nearby.
M_palmieri
Best Coffee Ever. Just when you thought good customer service and a good coffee no longer existed, along comes King of the Castle.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I love this place.
Teresa
All Hail the King!. Yup. He's that good. One of only two barristas I know of in Geelong that really gets how to make great coffee. Smooth as, but still with a decent coffee hit. And he's faabulously located (once you find him down the driveway). You have another loyal subject here my leige!
Emmeline
Delicious coffee and great "vibe" thanks to Robbie.

King of the Castle is worth finding. Don’t expect gaudy signs pointing the way; this gem exudes a Melbourne-style, up-the-alley-way aesthetic where you have to be “in the know” to find it.
