Review No.42 - Geelong

We sat in the beer garden on a very humid and hot day. It was lovely. Had the salt and pepper squid with chips. It was delicious! And the Cascade ginger beer with a lemon slice on ice was spot on. I would like to commend the wait and service staff for their outstanding and quick service. It hadn't been 5 minutes when both drinks and food were in front of us. Loved our lunch meal. Thank you

We went for brunch and unlike other places they were serving lunch all day. The layout of the place was nice and cozy. The outdoor sitting was quite nice too with the view of the ocean. We had full breakfast and jack sparrow(something new). Service was friendly Overall, happy with the experience. Would defiantly recommend.

Great food place in Geelong. Have been here couple of times and enjoyed the food every time. The location is great, right next to the waterfront. Ambience is really nice and they have ample seating space offering both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered marinara spaghetti which was good but a bit on the spicier side, satay vegetable curry with rice, bruschetta, grilled prawns, calamari rings and bowl of chips. All of the dishes were fresh and hot and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.

After a trip on the Geelong Fairy, we were ready for lunch. Very happy with the prompt service. Order taken and food delivered in a timely manner. Fish and chips was very generous portion especially the chips. I had the Wagyu burger as it was the only option. Long time since a normal hamburger was available. The Wagyu was very tasty. All the food looked delicious. Good that breakfast is available in the afternoon.

Nice place with a good menu. Big plus is that they add some fruits and veggies to the children's dishes, but why only the standard chicken nuggets and fish fingers? Would be nice to offer kids some more exciting things. The pumpkin salad (without cheese) was yummy, albeit a bit small. All in all, a nice place.

Had lunch in the outside area, great friendly service. The setup with the music meant even though we were next to the busy road you could barely hear the traffic. Very comfortable. Wedges yum. But the best part about this place was the kids nuggets plate!!! Nuggets + chips + carrot, celery apple cucumber and stawberry. Ive never seen a meal like this for kids but wish there was more of it!!!!

My wife and I had a day in Leopold we stopped at Sailors Rest for a late lunch on the way home. Served by Ben and another young waitress both had exceptional customer service skills made us feel welcome and at home even though they were close to closing time for lunches we picked a great table ordered food and a beer and in less than 5 minutes food was delivered! Fantastic meal, great service, beautiful water views it was perfect definitely 10/10 and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for everything it was flawless Ben even bought me out some extra tomato sauce 👌

Great location, great coffee, great food and fantastic service! We came in for lunch and settled in for a few hours. Credit to Charlotte who was so friendly and really genuine about the delicious items on the menu. Sticky date pudding to die for!!

Such a great setting and ambience but menu was really a let down. The menu is way to overpriced for the servings and it really doesn’t give you really much of a choice. Food was delicious but our table of 8 mostly got steaks as they’re wasn’t a great menu to choose from, but out of 8 of us 6 has steak which mostly was made up of fat and was only served with a side of broccoli!! We decided to order the potatoes because we wanted more then just broccoli & steak and they charge $9 for a literal bowl of roasted potatoes.

The ambience was great, and so was the food. A great place for a party. Some of the wait staff could have been nicer, to have a 5-star rating.

Thoroughly encourage everyone who visits Geelong to visit Ripples. Couldn't imagine a better location for a summer lunch as we enjoyed. Food and service were excellent and at realistic prices. Look forward to coming back perhaps for dinner next time.

Lovely cafe/restaurant with stunning views. Nice staff. We had 2 coffees, one of which is iced and a muffin. Coffees were good, muffin ok. And it was expensive!!

Stunning views and a funky restaurant but the food is all small portioned and way overpriced. I'm still hungry after that meal so no it didn't didn't satisfy my hunger

Dianne and Darren. Absolutely beautiful the view the restaurant the food and the staff. We had a share plate to start with it had grilled pita, cured meat house marinated olives and cheese delicious . Darren had the scotch fillet with mushrooms and he said it was the best steak he's had while eating out. I had the grilled chicken breast with eggplant char grilled capsicum and onion and perfectly cooked broccoli . This place is awesome and everyone should give it a go, the reviews I had read before we went were from 5yrs ago I was speaking with the owner whonsaidvthey had only been there for 2. So ignore the bad reviews and go try it for yourself ,you won't be disapointed . We will be going back for sure.

Expensive !. Food was great, Service was good but the portion sizes were way too small !
Way Overpriced for what you get.
You order a main then you have to pay for salad or veg and sauces..Can add up and food portions are tiny.

Tried to charge us double on the mains! Honest mistake, but really !

Terrible atmosphere, terrible food. It has prime location in Geelong but that's where the compliment stops. The food is below avaerage standard. The service needs desperate attention and the entire atmosphere resembles an aged care facility. I feel sorry for the owners as this place really needs a rocket to reach lift off. It's not hard to make the food fresh and flavourome, add a dash of cool vibes and have an atmoshere that youre proud of, not one that make you feel sleepy. Get some cool tunes and clean some tables people.... Wasted space :(

Overpriced eggs on toast and poor service. So won't be having breakfast at ripples on the bay cafe again - service slow, order wrong and $12 for 2 eggs on toast (and same price when u ask for no toast) + $3 extra for some bacon and then another $3 for avocado!!! Seriously?!?!

Perfect 3 course meal!. We are regular diners at Ripples on the bay and each time we have a great experience with both food and service. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Geelong!

Ripples was fantastic. Four of us had dinner last night 30/8/2014, the food was beautifully presented and carefully prepared. We could not fault any of the dishes we ordered they were all excellent, the best we have had in a restaurant for some time. The service was excellent, good humoured, answering queries well ... I wish all waiters were as good as the one who served us at Ripple.

Don't bother. We had not been since the new owners took over and we will not go again.
The food was ordinary. Entre we shared pork belly & the ricotta gnocchi. Pork belly was dry and skin not crispy.
Ricotta gnocchi was supposed to come with vegetable ragu, this only had as few scattered baby carrots, asparagus & radishes and was covered with garlic, hardly a rugu as I know it. Very bland.
Mains we shared the shank dish & the duck. Shanks are supposed to fall off the bone, this one sadly didn't.
The duck breast was undercooked and we were too scared to eat it stuggled to cut it as it was so wobbly. The duck leg was cooked better. Luckily we used the entertainment card and got the price of a main meal deducted
however was still rather pricey. The only positive I have to say about it was the service was amazing, staff very friendly and welcoming. Such a shame the food sucked.
The meals just smelt of old oil / animal fat including the fries.

Terrific food and service. We found the food and service to be excellent. The hosts were friendly and efficient. My mother was even given the recipe for the Caesar salad dressing. Highly recommended

Quiet place a little out of the center of Geelong but it has easily the best view of the bay this made for some great scenery while we ate ... I think the food there was second to none. I had pork belly, eye fillet, and a tasting plate for desert everything was cooked perfectly to my liking and I left the restaurant feeling very satisfied... Would defiantly recommend to anyone looking for a descent meal in the Geelong area.

Overpriced, average quality food. Pretty poor service, too. I went there on Saturday night, seeking a table for two, without a booking. Two thirds of the restaurant was empty, but they turned us away anyway. I asked if we could sit outside and they begrudgingly let us. They warned us that the food would take a while because they were "so busy"! The venison was over cooked and the duck was tough. For $40 a plate it was pretty disappointing! Outside, we had the stink of the storm water drain only a few metres away - not good for the appetite! Plus, when we left, at least half of the reservations hadn't turned up yet!

Overall, quite disappointing! We won't be back again.
Info
Ms.. It has changed. Staff not as professional, a kind of homely attitude which can translate into poor service. The food lacks flavour and presentation not great. I am told that the Head Chef moved on about a year ago.

Pleasantly surprised. Oct 2013. Having read recent reviews, was worried about overall service and timing, especially when visitors from Melbourne with us, no need to worry, staff were welcoming, attentive, pleasant, while menu concise, the choices suited vegetarians to meatlovers. Desserts were creative and plated beautifully, and tasted divine. who needs mains with sweets like this? Well done, our group know their food, and we would be happy to come back. Views of the waterfront, and park nearby made this a lovely venue to enjoy a lovely meal. thank you.

Season your food! We dined last night as a table of four and three out of the four meals were bland. I had the lamb backstrap and I have never eaten anything so flavourless in my life which was really disappointing. My partner and mum had the ling and they too said it lacked flavour. For the prices of these meals, it was completely unacceptable to serve food that bland! The serving staff were dressed very sloppy, I don't know if they were the owners but jeans and a discoloured tshirt is inappropriate for a restaurant like this. The wine was overpriced and when your only Pinot nior on your list is unavailable, you don't generally offer the replacement at the same price, not $8 dearer!! The desserts we all had though were delicious, the espresso brûlée was amazing! I had to go over and ask for bill as the two staff at the bar were too busy chatting amongst themselves to bring it over. Overall it was a pretty disappointing night, if i was ever to return it would only be for dessert!

Decided to return after a lovely experience about year ago, however was disappointed this time around. The service was polite / friendly but not present, took a long time for meals to come out during what seemed very quiet lunch time. The food was bland, not seasoned appropriately, wasn't the quality I expected. What a shame, as location and ambiance is still amazing.

Very different to previous visit in 2010 but still good. Staff were friendly but it was very quiet for a Friday night. Menu could have had more options but still good. Ordered the chicken roulade and eye fillet. Chicken very tender but bean mash quite bland. Steak cooked perfectly, but the rest of the dish were nothing special. Quite expensive but beautiful ambiance. 7/10 overall. Not bad, not fabulous.

Poor food & Poor service. Sat night 17 Aug 13. Five of us for dinner - mains took almost 90 minutes from when ordered, when I asked what was going on they were "just being plated up now". 3 meals delivered then another ten minutes before the other two where delivered to the table. The restaurant was not crowded. Meals were cold and frankly tasteless, combined with late delivery this is completely unacceptable. I will never go again.

In 2010 this restaurant was superb we visited again in august 2013 and were thoroughly disappointed. The meal was bland, rissotto under cooked and flavourless. The staff were oblivious to our complaints even after we said it was the worse meal we've ever had.

Disappointed. After reading and hearing negative reviews, we still decided to try Ripples Restaurant for breakfast. While the restaurant offers some wonderful views of the bay, the same can't be said for the service. Firstly, I was very surprised and disappointed that the menu offered no free range eggs. So, eggs were out of the question. Secondly, the waitress was slightly abrupt when I mentioned that my partner did not receive a spoon to eat his muesli. Thirdly, we were overcharged by nearly $10. When we questioned our bill we were rudely spoken to. Once the mistake was realised, no apology was offered. Instead we were given a steely glare. You really spoilt our Sunday morning and will never go back to your Restaurant. We will also happily spread the word of your poor attitude. There are several great cafes and restaurants around the area of Geelong but Ripples is not one of them.

One of Geelong's stand outs with a ripper steak. Great service with friendly staff who go out of the way to make you feel welcome. Will be back for sure.

Incredible service, fantastic food, delightful range, reasonable price, overall can't be faulted. Will be back that's for sure...

Food with a view, I can honestly say I've never had as steak cooked to perfection, plenty of sides. The scallops for entree were to die for. The Deseret are second to none. I highly recommend the banana dumplings that the chef makes to order. Can not fault the friendly staff and flawless floor service.. Will defiantly be back to try more of the fantastic menu.. 10/10

Geelong's hidden gem. One of Geelong's best kept secrets, Ripples on the Bay is tucked away at Rippleside Park. Boasting a magnificent view of Corio Bay you would be hard pressed to find a nicer location for a restaurant in Geelong. The décor is modern and is focused around the stunning view. The food was sensational, fresh produce and clean flavors, presentation is excellent. The menu is only small but focused on quality over quantity. Staff are friendly and welcoming which made for a pleasurable dinning experience. Will defiantly be back and will be recommending Ripples on the Bay to others.

Love this place!! Secondly I thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere the staff created. The presentation of the main dining area is well laid out spacious and most of all comfortable. I can wait to go back again. Every item on the menu is desirable but i chose to start off with the scallops were exactly what i was after then i went for the medium/rare steak which was cooked to perfection! The coffee was sensational and the best I've had in Geelong. Overall the experience was delightful and I would recommend this Resturant for anyone looking for a meaningful dinner with an added touch of class that is still affordable. Lastly the view is spectacular especially at night with a tranquil setting and geelongs city lights shining on the bay made a most memorable night at ripples on the bay, thanks guys for an awesome experience!! Be back very soon :)

Service is okay food okay but if wanting to leave satisfied and full bellied choose another restaurant having spent $200 and gone elsewhere for a pizza just explains $20 pizza does the job

Location is wonderful seating spacious but ugly. Food good but service pretty poor. If you worked on that you might be on to something.

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with our children. Wonderful setting with a great view, service was excellent from the moment we walked in. Meals where delicious and filling, the overall experience was a absolute pleasure.

Superb experience. Have been to dinner several times and each time it gets better and better. Has to be my favorite dining spot in Geelong. It never ceases to provide a superb dining experience. Beautiful locale overlooking the bay, stylishly furnished without overdoing it. The food is beautiful, across excellent menu options, ( loved the pork belly as an entree! ) superbly presented with personal service. Hats off to the chef and table staff. Will definitely be looking forward to our next visit.

Sittin in the lovely dinning room of ripples as I'm writing this, apart from the staff being oh so lovely and knowing there stuff about the wine the food is just amazing the oysters served with miron and chilli jelly and also a pickled shallot are just to die for simple but done really well! The sticky pork belly with Asian slaw and a little touch of lime is the best pork belly I've had oh so juicy and jam packed with flavour. In whole the wine matches and the food = an amazing dining experience thanks guys

Great meal, great service, great atmosphere. We were a table of 7, ate 3 courses, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was really good, and the decor is beautiful. We will definitely be back!

Excellent meal and attentive, friendly staff. Really enjoyed the cheeseboard with dessert wine to top things off.

Ripples ticks all the boxes for producing an excellent dining experience. Rarely these days do you get excellent service, food, ambience and setting all in one place. Love the new menu.

10/10. Yes, Ripples is set in a great location with views over the bay to Geelong. Yes, the food is always spot on with inventive and classic flavours sharing the menu, always executed with style and competence. Yes the prices for the quality of food and wine are reasonable.

However I think its the service at Ripples that makes it such a standout. Manager Danni, and her team, always make patrons feel special. Their attention to detail, friendly service and willingness to help and make your occasion memorable set Ripples apart from other restaurants.

Having been here numerous times now, I can honestly say I would always choose Ripples for a special meal or celebration with family and friends in the Geelong area.

Love it!. Ripples is my favourite place to eat in Geelong. It's a bit pricey, but seriously the food is fantastic everytime and the service is excellent.

Staff made a special bithday very SPECIAL. Booked my Dad & Mum in for dinner for Dad's 70th birthday as I couldn't be there as am currently living overseas. Well, I have not heard my parents rave above a restaurant and its staff as much ever and Bree and the girls at Ripples on Weds March 2nd made the night truly special and I am so happy to see that kind of service does exist. They said the the food was exceptional also. I will be visiting on my next trip back home to say thanks!

Great for a special occasion, beautiful view, beautifully refurbished, great service, amazing food and a great wine list with plenty of local stuff to choose from. Each time we've been we've been very happy. Keep in mind though a night at ripples is not cheap, you pay for what you get.

Beautiful location, extensive local wine list, delicious food with a range of flavorsome options and warm, friendly service. Terrific lunch spot

By far the worst service and longest wait for a meal I have ever experienced. Steak was great but the rest of the meal was cold. Never again.
