Amazing food! Drago wings and the Pork Belly Bao board are really good! The vegan pad Thai is also extremely tasty! Compliments to Chef Virakt for a wonderful meal

Went to the Bottomless Brunch here and I have never been more impressed with a restaurant or bar in my life. They perfectly catered for our large group’s specific dietary requirements, even though we didn’t specify before we got there. Such a positive and fun experience, staff are so lovely here and made us all feel so welcome. Cocktails and food were spectacular, without a doubt the best bottomless brunch out there. Worth every cent! Thank you Mr Umami’s!

The staff were absolutely amazing!! Michael, Karina, Jenna and the team were so accommodating to our dietary requirements. The team were so on top of our drink orders and were so lovely!! To top it off, the food as delicious!!! I couldn’t recommend Mr Umami’s any higher! The staff really make this place

I emailed and sent a message on messenger 2 weeks ago to avoid posting a review but with no response I am left to write this review. After being asked at the start of the bottomless brunch for any allergies, I alerted of my allergies to mushrooms. However the second course I was brought out dumplings filled with mushrooms. My friend alerted the waitress and we did not even receive an apology or replacement meal. Following this, I was unwell for 2 days. Extremely disappointed in the experience I had.

My wife and I attended our daughters 21st birthday celebrations at Mr Umami’s on the Sunday afternoon 26th June. Just wanted to highlight the amazing and receptive staff, huge shoutout to the young lady who took care of our event with great diligence and thought. Many thanks Terry and Cathy.

Allergy requirements were not met. Upon arrival we told the waitress of a mushroom allergy and she was served dumplings with mushrooms and had an allergic reaction. When we allerted the waitress she took no action and did nothing to follow up.

Fantastic customer service. Delicious food & cocktails. Changed the menu to suit our peanut allergy.

This place exceeded all my expectations in every way possible. 1. Lovely wait staff; 2. Delicious food; 3. Amazing cocktails; 4. Great live music. We had the best time and cant wait to go back!!!!

The restaurant has messages about catering to dietary requirements on the menu however after double checking if what we ordered were vegan, we ended up getting a non vegan order. A different waiter came and told us what we ordered wasn't vegan after we had already eaten it. The food was tasty but I don't really recommend this place if you have any dietary requirements or specially if you have a food allergy. You might end up in the hospital!

Had lunch and reno's were still taking place, but they re launched on Thursday!!!!! even tho being a bit apprehensive thinking we were gonna have a pub lunch at the barking dog, was greeted advising they had changed to an Asian fusion sitch, we went with it and glad a lady from table 3 had gone to the bar to say hey it's a bit noisy, maybe works would have continued.........we went with the Nasi goren it was good but my man missed the fried egg on top, look we probably will be back but later rather than sooner

Just had a bottomless brunch and the food was so so so delicious. Chicken Bang was my fave. Also bottomless cocktails can’t say no to that! Best value and afternoon spent with friends.

I would recommend Mr Umami's to anyone as the food, wine and services is great. The menu is best shared and as you eat each dish you will have taste sensation overload.

I was in on sat 24/3. I was dissapointed in the staggering of everyones meals. Most of all the dissapointment was when i ordered a cocktail to have with dessert and 30mins it still hadnt arrived we asked staff to check dessert arrived we asked again to be told its on its way. Dessert was finished no drink badically because it was to busy to make drinks for table service. Well this is just not good enough. What if i ordered a coffee instead of the espresso martini would i have not received this too because its inconvenient and you have to make it not just pour a beer from the tap or open a drinks lid. If you dont want to make fancy drinks remove them from the drinks menu!

Ok........this was our 2nd time to visit. Immediately, these skilful and friendly staff recognised and welcomed us back. We immediately hit some dumplings, some of the tastiest I've ever had. Followed by the delicious chicken skewers....yum. When talking to the talented waiter about the mains, he highly recommend the Num Num Lamb.......he wasn't wrong, it was soooooo tender, succulent and simply brilliant. Good work again Umami's.........we will be back again without doubt. If you haven't yet checked this place out.....get down there.......if you don't, you're missing out!

Rachel was an amazing waitress She waited on us hand and foot! Can’t thank her enough. Food was amazing and an equally great experience. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a fabulous afternoon of food and drink!

An absolutely amazing restaurant. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the chicken buns, masaman curry and pork belly. The Vietnamese churros finished the meal perfectly washed down with an espresso martini or two. Staff were wonderful and we will definitely be back

Fantastic food, strongly recommend the “Feed Me” option. Staff are friendly and the food is fresh and full of flavour.

This place use to be my favourite restaurant in geelong would go monthly. Now they’re just like wah wah gee and Frankie Geelong except those places have better food options. Why would you change the menu it was great before. Not recommending to anyone.

Me Umami's is delicious, the staff are friendly and helpful when deciding what to order, the portions are huge, I highly recommend the starters they are so yummy and ideal for sharing in fact the portions are so generous that you could easily share 2 mains between 3 people, my friends and I have tried most of the menu between us and nothing has been a disappointment, there's something for every tastebud

The staff were all nice and very polite however all my families meals came out at staggered times, they forgot my husbands meal and we had to ask where it was. When the meals arrived they were great. We ordered drinks at the table that didn't arrive and we had to go to the bar ourselves. I was expecting and hoping for more.

Bottomless brunch was such a hit with our group yesterday. Food was delicious and we certainly got our moneys worth in cocktails. Such great value, we’ll be back again.
Caitlin Doyle
The service was great and the food was amazing!! Very generous serves and full of flavour. Left feeling full even without having dessert. Would definitely recommend. Well done Mr Umami's!!
Sandra Wood McLaglen
Overly friendly (but under attentive) waiter made lunch a little creepy. Food was ok some wedges undercooked. Croquettes were delish. Nasi Goreng did NOT live up to its recommendation. Probs wont return.

Food could not be faulted it was absolutely delicious...
Service was a bit off to start with, no wine list by the bottles & a bit slow but it picked up & the staff were then. attentive. A bit of a wait (35-40min) between starters & mains but seriously that was forgiven once we tasted the beef it was worth the wait.
Well priced & great atmosphere. We will be back.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE BANG BANG CHICKEN AS I CANNOT SEE IT ON THE MENU ANYMORE AND WOULD LOVE IF IT COULD BE DELIVERED BY UBER EATS OR DO A TAKE AWAY
Tanna
Ticks all the boxes - food is fantastic - fresh and full of flavour. Great calamari and beef massaman curry among other dishes we loved -very generous serves. Nice ambience and great service. Only one gripe - the mango mousse (SOOOOO good, I always had it) has been taken off the menu - please bring it back!!!

Great work from these guys really amazing service, love their attention to detail. Try the sushi amazingly tasty and healthy. Fresh and could be in Tokyo eating it
Hcornea
Very nice food, with lots of Varied Asian fusion flavours. Decor very open, but with quiet areas. Clean modern space. Price in the moderate range, and value for what was served. Will gladly go again.

Amazing food! The diy board with crispy pork belly was actually amazing. Japanese calamari literally melted in your mouth, everything was yum yum yum! Deserves a rating above 4 for sure what a gem👌🏽

Beautiful set up, lovely vibe. Menu was great, plenty options to share or meals to eat solo. Needless to say we had high expectations! The food wasn't too bad.. but we weren't blown away either.
Parker Rettke
The staff were pretty good. However, it was so clear that the kitchen was super understaffed. The plates took so long to come out and half of our table who had dietary requirements so couldn't share with us didn't get their first plate for 45 minutes. I believe that the floor manager made an attempt to remedy the issues but still felt quite annoyed at the whole experience.
Nick Hewitt
Cudos to the chefs first of all! Absolutely spectacular food!
However the staff suck, and were rude and rushed us out! All because the waitress spilt a drink and told the manger it was us!
Wouldn't recommend! Could definitely find a better place!
Gordon Ramsay
Okay let's just start by saying, I've had better Asian meals in a Japanese POW camp.
That crab thing they serve had less meat on it than an Ethiopian boy starving to death.
The presentation of food is nice but that's where it ends.
Portions far to small and fail to hit the spot.
Great venue but poor food unfortunately hurts the overall experience.
Go once to find out I wasn't lying.
Denis Lupo
Great venue and interesting menu, staff very friendly and well prepared to answer our questions and accomodate requests and special dietary requirements. Dishes didn't take long to come out even if it was a busy saturday night. Food was good but a little overspiced, i also think a little overpriced but to be honest the serves were big and very filling. Calling a restaurant Umami it's a little pretentious though and i am not giving more than 3.5 basically because i didn't get the umami flavour i was expecting. Overall experience was good, and it's definitely worth to give it a try.

Asian Infusion heats up Geelong at Mr Umami. If you are looking for a trendy twist on Asian Cusine and you are in Geelong, you have to give this place a go.

4/5 Food - The flavours of Asian will tingle in your mouth. The menu is designed best for sharing so you can order a few dishes and try together, I enjoy the social aspect of sharing food. Portion sizes are decent especially with the mains. Everything was flavoursome, quality produce and food were presented nicely. The only thing which was disappointing were the dumplings; the pastry was too doughy which didn't hold together well.

4/5 Drinks - Good selection of cocktails (Reasonably priced) look and taste great. Beer and wines drinkers won't be disappointed a good variety to choose from.

4/5 Service - The staff were welcoming and attentive, knowledge of the menu was good and can assist with suggestions. The food didn't take long to come out. Dishes were staggered throughout the night enhancing the experience of social sharing.

4/5 Atmosphere - You find Mr Umami tucked behind the Barking Dog on Packington-street, plenty of car park around. Attached to the barking dog you can walk right in for a drink afterwards. It has a trendy fit-out, long tables for groups. It was busy, and noise picks up over the night - not a quiet restaurant okay to make some noise.

This is place isn't too expensive, good for couples, families and groups.

You shouldn't be disappointed - I recommend trying Mr Umami and will be back here next group outing sometime in the near future.

Mr Umami's ! Ok this is a hard one ! Let's start with the venue, great atmosphere ! Really well decked out ! Great staff, very friendly and super helpful ! Good choice of beers, wines, and cocktails and reasonably priced !
Now the food, good variety of choice on the menu, well presented but lacking in taste ! In my opinion most of the dishes lacked salt, Yes you read it right SALT !
One of my companions had House made Dumplings for Entree and they had no taste, needed salt ! I had the pulled pork raps, brilliant ! Another friend had the Jungle Curry, needed salt , some one else had the Drunken Duck, again brilliant ! Desert was a trio of chocolate, perfect ! I will go back to see if I got an off night, but over all a little disappointed with the inconsistency of the food served
VegTreats
Excellent range of food, offered many vegetarian/vegan alternatives and excellent service by waiters who were exceptionally welcoming and eager to show me their vegetarian dishes! Highly recommend the tofu cups and steamed vegetable dumplings- will be going back to try their larger plates.

Good attempt at Asian fusion in Geelong. Some
Creative items on the menu, most, unfortunately missing the mark. The barramundi with zucchini noodles were a bit bland, the lamb ribs were too salty, and the roll ups were disappointing. Potential to be amazing with some improvement in the kitchen I think.
Colin Philip
Pretty disappointing overall. Came here awhile ago and it was great but the quality seems to have taken a dive.

The drunken duck and numbing chicken were dry and tasteless and had very little meat on them. Massaman curry and dumplings weren't bad but didn't make up for the others.

The service was really good but the food was also overpriced. Good choice of beers though.

Coffee Snob
YUMM!!
Sad this please isn't open on Mondays or I'd be there a lot more.
Yummy fresh food with lots of flavour.
Attentive staff that are super helpful with any questions thrown at them
Foodie
My first time at Mr. Umamis and from everything I had heard I was extremely excited and had high hopes for this place. The flavours in the food I thought was good overall, aside from our curry which wasn't very flavoursome. ONTO THE NEGATIVES, I'll begin with the service. One word, appalling. I'm not sure whether there was a problem in the kitchen but our meals were completely staggered. There were 12 of us eating, 6 of us eating entrees. After 20 minutes 3 entrees were served, after that 3 mains. Then after waiting 1 hour and 30 minutes and still waiting for other entrees we asked how much longer is would be. The lady then came back and asked us what we were waiting on, after this she told us that they had actually run out of the entrees we had ordered AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF WAIT!!!!!! She then asked us if we would like it cancelled off the bill??? (Der, we didn't get it so why would we pay for it). Then another waitress came out saying that she had heard a complaint from this table, and that we actually had been only waiting 1 hour 20 minutes for the food not an hour and a half. She then asked us if we had ever had Asian food before? and walked off with attitude, a simple sorry would have been nice.
Finally, 1.45 hours after ordering my main (massman curry) came out!! And boy was I hungry!! And unfortunately disappointed, the food was lukewarm and rather tasteless and I was still waiting for my side dish of coconut rice and roti bread. By the time they had arrived the curry was even more cold, how long does it take to cook rice and roti bread?? The rice was NOT coconut at all, rather plain rice and the roti bread, burnt to the sh*thouse and tasted like charcoal. Almost finished my main and my girlfriends' mains arrived! One of my friends ordered a mild curry...she picked 4 sliced chillies out (not very mild if u ask me). Another friend ordered a fish curry, there was a hint of fish with the rest being flooded with half bok choys. By this time we were the only table in the restaurant, We dined on a Tuesday night... I wonder how long we would have to wait on a Friday or Saturday night. Not returning again. Not impressed. As a regular diner on Pakington street I have crossed this one off.. For good.

Good has potential. One dish the Chicken skewers was undercooked

Love it, but be prepared to pay for it. I was (beyond) pleasantly surprised by the aesthetic, the service and the food at this nifty wee establishment. But the pricetag was pretty severe given the size of the serves. But if money is no object and you're lookin for a Chin Chin-esque experience on G-Town, then come on down

Hmm.... Good beer list, fine service, adequate food for the most part. Lacking subtlety and balance of flavours, but generally ok. What was less forgivable was discovering that the prawn dish was in fact seafood highlighter...

Service - makes a great night even better. I was here on Sunday night.
The food was good, but OH! the service!!!
Well, may I tell you about the food first? I asked about which dumplings I should have and was recommended the pork and prawn. They were really good. Good enough to order more dumplings, and the money bag dumplings, which were pretty good.
What made this an amazing experience for me was the staff. The beautiful young lady Maddy, who suggested the pork and prawn dumplings, and then the drop dead gorgeous Olly (oh to be 20 again!).
He knew his wines perfectly. Did not have to explain where Marlborough was, let alone New Zealand. Both Maddy and Olly were such wonderful service people it was a delight for me to be there.
I was sitting alone at the front bar table and chatted with these two gorgeous staff members and it was lovely.
I rang the Manager, Sean, today - being so impressed. He was also a pleasure.
I highly recommend Mr Umami's.
As we all know, it's a lot about the food, of course, but for me - anyway - it's a great deal about the service.
I can cook. I can do that at home. I love to have great service and Mr Umami provide that.
Thank you - Maddy, Olly and Sean.

Nice environment but ultimately disappointing. Vegetarian dumplings were bland - seemingly only a paste of carrot or sweet potato. Nice presentation but a distinct lack of flavours in these and the vegetarian rice paper rolls. These were very overpriced, tiny, carrot and noodle rolls. Could the chef perhaps look up some cookbooks for ideas? Asian vegetables as a sude were also bland - no onion, ginger, lemongrass or any other ingredients to give flavour. Need to do a bit of work guys....over priced for such bland food. Would not recommend.

Absolutely fantastic meal. The food was fresh and light. Relaxed gastro pub feel. Extremely fast and friendly service.

Thank you Mr Umami. YUM - this is a welcomed new addition to the Geelong food scene! Great decor, great atmosphere, love the movie screening and cute envelope for the bills....and the great food! A little disaapointed by the dumplings but thankfully the rest of the menu made up for that. DIY pulled pork was awesome, loved the all the garnishes, fresh and tasty! The calamari was tender and don't start me on the ribs - melt in your mouth. Apparently the rice paper rolls were also amazing. Wouldn't recommend the chicken pop corn - didn't resemble pop corn AT ALL and tasted a little like fried tarantula. Other than that, absolutely LOVED the food and experience as did my fellow diners. Can't wait to get back there for round 2!

Had high expectations for this place as the only other place with dumplings in Geelong is a major let down. This place did not deliver either. Service was good, but $7.50 for 3 dumplings? Are you serious? The texture of the dumplings was excellent but flavour just wasn't there. You can get 15 dumplings for that price in China town! The best dish was DIY pork pancakes but even those lacked flavour. Overall the atmosphere was good but it was way overpriced for food that lacked any deep flavour. I won't be back.
Jayski
Fun atmosphere, funky decor, friendly service & nice food. Loved the movie screen & envelope, sweet touch. A top edition to Geelong's food scene.

A fantastic venue! Just what Geelong needed! For those who have been lucky enough to experience Chin Chins in Melbourne this is the next best thing...and in Geelong! The staff are enthusiastic and clearly enjoy their job, the flavours in the dishes are amazing and the portions generous. We had a 20minute wait for a table which did not bother us at all as we were able to grab a seat and a drink in the bar and were even able to order entrees while we waited. If you're in the area this venue is a must!
Annie
Exciting menu, great food, fantastic service and cool interior design. Loved it and will be back!
