Review Family Pho - Geelong

Great food. Best vietnamese food I have tried in Victoria so far. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 I ordered spring rolls, marinated grilled pork chop with rice, and beef pho.

I love this restaurant and come here about twice a week. The broth is hearty and the place smells authentically Vietnamese with herbs and floral scents filling the well lit room. Not fine dining but delicious.

Terrible food and service. This place must have changed hands since most of the other reviews were written. The pho was watery tasteless stuff. No spices or herbs were in evidence. Could only get a few mouthfuls down. The Mongolian chicken was not much better, and the rice that accompanied it looked and tasted like it was left over from last night. We had one last surprise left. The spring rolls we ordered as an entree finally turned up. Oh well, better late than never we thought. We were wrong. "Never" would have been better! It's amazing how quickly your appetite can disappear in the presence of food like this. When we left we weren't hungry anymore. If you've come here and it's been closed, you've dodged a bullet.

My experience was ok - when ordering through on the phone they didnt have an item that was on the website and when I came in to pick up the manager was very loudly yelling at the kitchen staff. Spring rolls were very thin and rice paper rolls were good.

We had beef pho and chicken/beef pho and pork spring rolls. Soup is good and flavorful but too fatty, could be clearer. The beef slices are too thick and became chewy. The 2 bowls of soup we had were not the same size. The bean shoots were browning and not fresh The spring rolls were too skinny, flavor okay though. Quick service, staff good. Overall average.

Having a trip to Geelong and tried Family Pho. The food and service were great. The beef pho was tasty and very big. The spring rolls was very good. The satay chicken was delicious. The wonton noodle soup was the best with heaps of veggies, wonton and pork. I will come back if I go to Geelong next time.

Super fresh ingredients, but not authentic Vietnamese flavour. I had vermicelli with chicken and it was too western/bland. No fried peanuts or (Vietnamese) mint. Not bad food at all. I think I'm spoiled with the great food in Sunshine and St Albans.

Dined here solo on a business Monday seated on the counter. I was able to order over the phone and dine in. There’s either an eftpos minimum or cash only - can’t remember. Pho was alright.

Delicious vegetarian pho. Really friendly service, very busy on a Wednesday night but good service nonetheless. Have also come for takeaway lunch and it’s been great. Recommend!

Busy place, with take away and dine in. Nice fresh interior with the yellow theme. Had spring rolls, rice vermicelli with spring rolls, beef pho, 3 colour drink.
The spring rolls nice and crispy, prawn filling. Really tasty.
For the pho the noodles were a let down, very soft and towards the bottom dissolved into small pieces. The 3 colour drink had something weird and sour in it. There was just the one person taking orders and bringing out food which is just not enough if she’s got to prep the 3 colour drink too (Took 20 mins, came after food). The empty table next to us didn’t get cleared of its dishes and wiped down for the entire time we were there. I suppose that’s why there isn’t table service.
It’ll probably do ok out here, but below average vs other viet restaurants in quality and service - but they charge a bit more too.

I was excited to learn there was a new Vietnamese joint in Geelong, especially somewhere else to source a bowl of Phõ. The other Vietnamese restaurant on Ryrie st has often been closed when Phõ is the only thing I’ve wanted. I’ll start with the positives. Friendly service and a smiling face from the man who serves front of house was much appreciated. Parking out the front was easy. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but throughout our meal there was a constant stream of takeaway customers and another 3 tables became occupied too. Always a good sign - or so I thought. The food I feel is pricey for what you get. Is it because there really isn’t many places that serve Vietnamese food in Geelong? We ordered spring rolls and fried wontons, a chicken dish, rice and Phõ. Nothing to write home about. Very ordinary food. No complimentary green tea in a flask like you get at a lot of places in Melbourne & at the other Vietnamese place in Ryrie St. The man serving us apologised to customers for running out of bean sprouts - I received a small portion with my Phõ and an apology. But the worst was yet to come. I had to use the bathroom facilities and they’re outside in the backyard. I literally had to walk through the restaurant kitchen to get there which is a safety hazard as I had the wrong shoes for starters. The yard was like a filthy neglected wreckers space. I had no clue where to look for the loo. I walked up some stairs and into a couple of rooms that were in a bungalow and each room looked like squatters lived there. Rubbish, junk and clothes everywhere .. so I kept looking. I walked past an upside down discarded espresso machine, empty paint buckets, junk, boxes and general rubbish.. & I actually started to feel afraid of where I was stepping. Should I ring the council? I eventually found the disgusting toilet. Walking back I had to descend a few stairs back into the kitchen. One of the cooks exited the kitchen with an already lit cigarette in his mouth as I was about to descend. I thought he’d let me go down as we’d made eye contact & there wasn’t enough room for two people. Instead he bolted up the stairs first blowing smoke in my face!?! Going back into the kitchen I had to walk between a man with a mop and his phone which was perched against something on a stainless steel counter. The phone was playing an Asian soap opera or something on You Tube (or similar). He was intently watching while working and I said “sorry” as I tip toed between him & his viewing while hoping I wouldn’t slip on the wet kitchen floor. I felt ill that we’d eaten at this restaurant. I’m also certain the food is laden with msg or chemicals galore as my heart was beating rapidly, I felt weak and even had laboured breathing for about an hour after the meal! All symptoms disappeared within 90 mins of eating our dinner. I might add, this is not what usually happens after I eat out. I hope the owners read this and clean up their yard and act - but we’ll never go back.
