Review Wharf Shed - Geelong

Highly recommend this places for not just food, views and ambience but also their delicious tank beer! Loved the place.. the staff were helpful and friendly. We didn’t have a reservation but we the staff helped us find a table. Good place for brunch with family and friends.

The Wharf Shed was quite busy for a Saturday evening, but we didn’t have to wait very long for the food. The staff were friendly and attentive. The tables outside were nice to soak up the atmosphere.

Nice presentation, cooked with nice flavour. I ordered king prawn Laksa, perfect amount of spiciness, never had roti with it before, but it's a good combination😉. The cheese garlic pizza, delicious too👌will recommend to all my friends coming to Geelong Beach side.

Very polite staff, Saturday lunch service is a busy one so expect 25-30 minute wait for food. Best to reserve if you want a good a good seat. I had the gummy shark and my partner had the salt and pepper calamari. Calamari was hot, fresh and delicious served with hot chips! The calamari was definitely the better dish of the two, it had a fantastic flavour. Gummy shark was Fresh, lupe warm and served with warm and cold chips which was a bit of a disappointment. I tried a chip from each plate and mine were mostly cold but my partners were fresh and hot! I was a bit jealous. Set aside the cold chips. 2 dishes ordered and 2 drinks cost over 70$ So it’s a bit more on the pricey side for something that didn’t come out hot. I’d expect everything to be hot at the price. Lovely decor though. But sad about the price not matching the quality. I’d hope the venue to produce some consistency. I would also like to add that I did provide feedback and staff offered to get me some hot chips or a slice of cake which was really appreciated but I’d filled up on my Coke Zero by that point, so I did decline. But I can say the customer service from front of house staff is really up there. Some of the best I’ve had. Very lovely people. 1 dish out of the 2. So I would still give this place another go.

Nice restaurant, service is bit slow which is understandable under the circumstance. paella dish was disappointing as rice didn't have that crusty flavors. Pricey than the other restaurants in the area.
Ingrid Sutherland
Tasty and very large meals. The pork belly was good, the salad of bean sprouts and lychees with the seared scallops was a pleasant surprise.

Nice place for a meal and great view over Geelong waterfront. Meals are much like pub meals. A little pricey but food was good.

This place is good choice for a lunch with family, friends and couples. Must try: Seafood starter #Fresh Tasmanian Oysters with 🍋 or go for cucumber and finger lime option. We also enjoyed Paella, Chicken schnitzel meal. They say that you cannot have it all. However, for me @wharfshedgeelong ticked all boxes. They making their patrons happy since mid 1990s . Lovely staff, delicious and fresh food, live music on weekends at lunch time and a beautiful ocean view. I loved it and would recommend you to visit them too.

Walked in for a quick lunch with my kids before we went for a play. Waited at the "please wait to be seated sign" while waiters walked past me again and again without any acknowledgement at all. Finally got seated only to decide on what food and then be ignored once again. Tried to get their attention, they just kept walking past my table. I thought maybe I must have to go to the counter and order, and when I did, they waiter could not have been more disinterested if he tried. He actually tried to walk off on me when I got there. Then it was another half hour for food in which time my kids had had enough of waiting. The whole place is strange. They have so many staff members on buy they all look miserable and disinterested all just flat out ignore you. Never again

Meals 10/10 Service bloody unreal excellent place very friendly staff will be going there again and highly recommend

Went to the Wharf Shed Café for lunch, we were seated by a server and then that was it. Asked 4 servers walking a around the café that we would like to order and the reply was I will be back in a second never saw them again. I even when to the counter and was told someone will come over and take the order, never came. Tried to get their attention, but we were ignored. We waited there for 30-45 minutes then we just walked out. Will not go back or recommend them to any of my family/friends

Terrible. Haven't been here for a few years, thought we'd come for breakfast as it was convenient for our plans for the day. We weren't expecting much as it was never very good.. things have certainly not improved. Eggs benedict, bread was soggy, eggs had a strange taste and the whites were still translucent, bacon was almost black, hash browns taste like they were frozen from a packet, best part was the avocado scooped out of its skin. Won't be back.
Colleen Neal Cruwys
Very disappointed please don’t send out mains with starters, my husbands main meal was chicken parmigiana it was dry and very chewy and salad was cooked a tip take salad off the plate when keeping warm Tonight was our wedding anniversary we went home very disappointed

Two friends and I came on New Year’s Day to get some brunch. A waitress seated us and we had drink orders taken, but then we were left waiting for half an hour without anyone seeing if we wanted to order some food (we did). We paid for our drinks and left after seeing tables that arrived after us getting their food. Incredibly disappointing service, we understand being busy but to not even check in when we have nothing but drinks on the table isn’t good enough!
Zara Jade
Awesome service beautiful food and our food was served really fast and a awesome location cant fault it
Nikki Troy
The only good thing is the position and views. Appalling service, average food. It's like the staff hate working there. Would be embarrassed to take out of towners there. Geelong has so much better to offer.
Chantal Harris
First time here and we thought it was great. Wait staff were friendly, food came quickly and was yum. Glad we didn't order the monster parmi because the normal one was big !! Will be back
Diane Munro
My chicken burger was so salt it was horrible and the coffee machine had obviously not been cleaned as there was black spots left behind Very disappointing
Enza Candido
Went for lunch today and ordered the open souvlaki . Looked great on the plate but it had a sprinkle of meat on it. I mostly had salad on the pita bread that was well made. I told them when paying , they lacked interest. Disappointed to say the least. Won’t be going there again,
Temiekan Christensen
Had an amazing time, everyone was really helpful with service, food was fantastic and such a great price for the size of a meal, will be going back there someday

Came here on Queens Birthday Weekend with the family, and managed to get a table. Unfortunately the staff service at the front desk was the best part of the experience.

Food came out cold, red wine jus had little taste and the Steak was well overcooked from the Medium that I had ordered.

Staff service was pitiful. Maybe the staff need to listen to what the customer orders.
Ben Farrell Chalmers
I always enjoy coming here in the warmer months and then also in the cooler ones as well. Great views of the water front. Haven’t really ventured too much in regards to the menu but what I have ordered over the many years I have been going, has never really failed to disappoint. I and salivating just thinking about their monster parmi!
Paul J Schneider
This was a pretty bad meal to say the least. We spent $80 on our lunch and drinks and probably ate about 5% of it.

The wagyu steak was cooked to within an inch of its life and no where near the medium rare ordered, not an enjoyable eat at all.

My partners barramundi dish was bland, tasteless, and, again, not enjoyable.

The staff were friendly enough and food service was quick but neither of those points make up for the food. We neglected our research in this instance and we paid a high price for it.

We wont be back and I urge others to head the warnings of these reviews on here as hopeful and positive “maybe it’ll be okay” thoughts wont improve the quality of the food and cooking.

Nice view though. Boats and stuff.

This place is exactly what it sets out to be - affordable, casual, family friendly waterside dining. Cafe by name and by nature, there is enough range on the menu to get everyone fed with all the usual suspects like calamari, burgers and pizzas. Have been a couple of times and found the staff to be very helpful and happy to help make sure everyone got what they wanted.
Amy Lowe
Size and quality of the food has gone downhill in the last year.. and prices have gone up. The lamb open souvlaki used to he huge and so filling. A few weeks back I ordered it again and I reckon it was half the size. It tasted nice. The pita base was very chewy so I didn't eat much of it.
Adam
Paid a visit for a drink and some snacks being Nachos and Sweet Potato Fries. The venue is great overlooking the Bay however the food sub par. The nachos were ok however the sweet potato fries seemed to be nothing more than soggy McCain frozen chips. Service was ordinary with us waiting at a table for over 20 minutes with no one coming over. We ended up going to the bar to order. Nice venue but food and service could do with a pickup!
Judy
Shared the trio of dips to start and was pleasantly surprised by the array of dips, it was good with the selection of breads and pitas served. The chicken Parmy was pretty good, although the chips were soggy and didn’t taste fresh. My friend tried the fish special and was quite happy with her meal. Overall good experience and I would come back for their pizzas, they smelt so good coming by our table !
Tay
After waiting 25 minutes for our food I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the chicken parmigiana it was very hard to fault ... however it was the highlight of my plate with the chips and salad being average ... the trio of dips were okay but the only think we really enjoyed were the pita slices I would stick to sending them out and forget about the crackers and bread overall not a bad place to have lunch 🍴

Great location. The restaurant was very busy at lunch time, but staffs were tried to manage that politely. We got seafood dish, and they are very nice!
Colleen
Have a love hate for this place.
Great location & views but noisy each time the helicopter lands & takes off.
Can always get a seat, it seems like the staff need to get you in & out, so feel rushed to order, eat & move on for the next diners.
Lot of choose on the menu, but don't try & alter the dish or if you like the sound of the chicken salad but prefer it without the chicken expect to pay for the chicken.
Great prices.
Dog friendlyish
Staff no personality, of course they do, it's just they don't bring it to work or the table.
So that's my love hate for the place
Ahlan Dimachki
Waited about 25mins to get served and when we asked the waiter who seated us when can we order nothing happened for another 10min so we just walked out without anyone noticing or caring. A real shame for a great location and restaurant, worst service I have ever experienced in my life.
MF
We eaten here many times but always forgot to write review abt it. Last time mostly we only had drinks and snack but this time we really ordered their food and it was awesome! I love my squid ink pasta, the way the chef cooked the squid was perfect, usually i dont like capers but i do for that dish! the calamari and fries wasnt crispy but it was tasty, but the fish n chips was just okay, the batter wasnt good enough. Churros was dry as if it was kept for too long.
Overall happy with the food and service and will always go back for the squid ink pasta everytime in geelong!
Jonathon
Well well well, what do we have here. A reasonable, if not great restaurant.

Located literally 10 steps from the Corio Bay Waterfront, the Wharf Shed is a classic restaurant that every tourist should visit if in Geelong.

I ordered the schnitty (Mind you, there was a normal size and a ‘monster’ size), and it was more succulent than a watermelon on a summers day.

My girlfriend ordered the nachos, which could’ve fed half of Australia; a positive in itself.

The atmosphere was average, but the service was lovely nonetheless.

The Schnitty was that good I nearly ‘shed’ a tear myself.
Kevin
Went for lunch, was very busy so the wait was understandable. Pleasant staff, attentive service. I ordered the lamb souvlaki, huge service, beautifully moist lamb pieces, well-seasoned and dressed. Lovely location too.
Morris
Really friendly staff, and a huge range of craft beer. Rather quick attentive service.Seating is available in and out , we were in the intermediate shed part.
I had a hard time selecting a meal , but I went for the Local mussels in veg broth with charred bread. Delicious broth ,but not enough mussels or charred bread for the price, Their standard Parma was a great serve and they also offer a larger monster version. The spicy wings are spicy and the blue cheese sauce was great. The sliders were neither here nor these. Pizza seemed expensive for the size.
Overall food and service was nice, bit expensive for the serving size , but their location and staffing costs account for that.
Ribena
Quite an expansive menu, and you get to enjoy it with a beautiful view of the beach. The service is average, but the food is pretty good. I have been there on a few occasions and enjoyed the food that I've had.
Emma
Another place where I wish I read the reviews before going.
Location was nice, as most others have said, albeit pretty run down.
I had pizza, which was like chewing through concrete once you got to the crust. Obviously it was hard because not even the chefs had been able to cut through it before it was served.
Husband had a beef burger and only ate half (very unlike him) because the meat was too tough.
Everyone on the table said the chips were good but I honestly didn't think they were all that.
Kids bolognaise was good but also tasted like perhaps they'd just stirred through a jar of salsa or something?
Definitely won't recommend or be back.
Sophie Carson
I had the chicken burger from the "Favourites" section thinking it would be a real goodie. But that was just me being hopeful, as the way the place was presented (bathrooms were a shocker) didn't scream that I was in for a treat. It was the worst burger I have ever eaten. I wouldn't say eaten though, because I hardly ate any. It lacked flavour and was dry as death valley. The presentation was also the worst I have seen, like I could have been at a kids picnic that I didn't choose to be at. After all that, I was not expecting some average looking, chubby chips to cheer me up! But that dipping sauce and chips was so superb it kept me from throwing my food on the ground. In regards to service, the restaurant clearly lacked waitors, as we had to wait ages to be seated and served. I would have mentioned my dissatisfaction if anyone at all had of asked, but they couldn't care less. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I regret ever going. KFC where were you when I needed a good chicken burger that doesn't cost $17?!

Mark this date. As of today, The Wharf Shed is my happy place.

Food was good, wait staff incredibly cute, very polite and even tolerated a bit of a spill. (Apologies).

The Wharf Shed, located on the Esplanade offers an incredible view of the popular Eastern Beach and a variety of heavenly cakes and dairy based beverages. That's what we ordered anyway, and all items were delicioso.

My recommendation - LIME MILKSHAKE!
Paige
Staff were friendly and seated us promptly. Bought us water and menus immediately and took our order shortly afterwards. Ordered a Hawaiian pizza and some chicken tacos to share. Tacos were bland and pizza was pretty basic, something that looks like i could definitely have made at home, however there was a smokey flavour in the pizza which I enjoyed.
Wouldn't return, especially with so many other options immediately around this cafe.
Pickyeater
Location wise it is very good, no complaints there, my main concern is that their salt n pepper calamari & served with chips n salad, for 17.50 you would think to get a decent serving, it came in a brown box like you get in food trucks plus the calamari had no taste at all too much flour coat.
The pizza was decent, but it could've used more rocket in the middle with drizzle of olive oil or something.
LikesfrieswithThat
Went there for coffee which was very watered down. Milk in iced coffee made my friend sick and we had to throw it out. Probably not a good place to get take away coffee if you can help it.
Nick Charlton
Rude staff, amazingly slow. It took so long for our drinks to arrive we decided not to bother with food. Unfortunately a great location that could be amazing but obviously the staff and owners don't care. Give it a miss.
Crets10
Crap. Ordered the Grilled fish and chips with salad. Over priced, chips were barely cooked, salad was barely two lettuce leaves and the fish looked like something you'd get from a can.

Would stay well away from this place.
GK
This food is really bad. Vegetable skewers were thin pieces of tofu with cherry tomato halves and thin mushrooms- no chance of surviving the grill. Couscous was dry and bland. At least they were decent enough to give me my money back. Bolognese sauce was very "Aussie" pass. Kids steak tough and tasteless. 3 strikes and out.

Admittedly I did not eat here and only wanted a drink at lunchtime but that was no excuse for the awful service I received. I sat outside and after about 5 minutes no-one had come over to me (it was busy but not full) so I flagged down a waiter and asked for the drinks menu. He didn't say word and brought the menu, again without saying a word. It was extremely windy so I decided to go inside. I asked if I could sit at the bar and the waiter said "I think so..I 'll just check" What the ?! He asked a colleague and she said "I don't see any reason why not ....if there's a problem I 'll let you know" More "What the?" I sat at the bar and was apparently invisible as both the bar and wait staff just ignored me for a good five minutes after which I finally walked out.

Can't complain about much. Every time I've been here food has been decent. Tonight I had prawn tacos and garlic flatbread. fantastic. Service was pretty slack however. It wasn't very busy but our plates weren't cleared especially since we had quite a lot of food between us it was awkward having them give us dessert with a few dirty plates already. They forgot drinks and food took a long time to come out. In the past they've been pretty good so I hope this doesn't continue.
Hailey
Friendly staff and in a great spot. Every meal I've had from there has been good, can't complain. Not too long to wait for meals and all came out around the same time.
Sherlee
Had such an appalling experience. Horrendous customer service. We waited around 15mins for a table which was understandable but when we saw a table available my mother went up to this waitress with short hair, glasses and an orange top and tapped her on the shoulder to ask her if we could sit there as she wasn't paying attention to any of the customers, kindly asked if we could sit there, she ignores us didn't even look at my mother then shouted 'CAN YOU NOT TOUCH ME' and pushes my mothers hand away and said 'yeah you can sit wherever you want' with such a disgusting attitude. As we walked to the table I saw her go off to the other staff members and proceeded to mock my mother as they all laughed. It was extremely disrespectful to talk to a customer like that let alone an elder especically at a restaurant in hospitality. We sat down for 5 mins and waited for menus to see her again giving menus to this other table that just sat down... Because of this we decided to leave as we initially came to experience a nice meal by the beach except to be ruined by this waitress. We then informed the manager to whom her excuse was that she was just a 'quirky' person and that she's been working since 9am. We have been in the hospitality business for over 30 years and have dined at numerous places however that behaviour was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable to treat paying customers like that and there's no excuse. Don't work in hospitality if you can't handle situations professionally.
The Go Go Mumma
The perfect spot for group or family dinners. All the meals are reasonably priced and are rather good servings Everyone on our table was really satisfied with their meal. The staff were all super friendly and efficient at checking in with our group. I ordered a monster parmigiana, which totally lives up to its name and would suffice to feed two people comfortably. Their deserts were to hard to resist so I ended up with a slice of rich, moist red velvet cake = delish! With an expansive choice on their menu, it's definitely worth your while to try out this spot.
Manal Wish
Good casual dining experience with lovely views of the bay. If your looking for healthy eating choices this probably isn't the place to eat. Staff are friendly, and ingredients seem fresh.
Sharb
Great location and service was ok, the place was busy so we thought we were in for a good pub style meal however we were very dissapointed. The tables were covered in a sticky grime and the food was not great. Potato tots were just potato gems, salt and pepper calamari was the frozen kind. This was just like eating at an average fish and chip takeaway but with much higher price tag. Food and decore needs a major overhaul.
Craig Bryant
Beautiful Sunday afternoon. We thought we would stroll down the waterfront and grab a bite at this restaurant. You'd think the place would be prepared for the kinds of numbers coming thru today. Sadly no. We were seated straight away.... We ordered and 30 mins later still waiting for our meals. I enquired with the wait staff and they stated matter-of-factly that they were recovering from the lunch rush. No apology. When an establishment rides on its location this much and doesn't provide basic courtesy and service, then they deserve bad reviews.
Mrmcveigh
Went there for Fathers Day Breakfast.... and for once, we were served pretty fast! But when the food came out - it was very basic, small & overly expensive! If you are going to charge on the more expensive side... at least makes the meals worth it! Mine was definitely average.
Eat To Live
Don't waste your time or money. Food was average, menu very limited. Could be such a nice place with the great location. Needs a menu overhaul and some character. Wouldn't go back here. Very disappointing ..
Alex
Incredibly average service with food to match unfortunately. The only attractive point about the entire experience is the view. No desire whatsoever to return anytime soon.

WARNING!, WARNING! Zomato only seems to let me rate something as a minimum 1.0. I really wanted to give this place the most negative score I could. Terrible food. Possibly the worst I have eaten in a long time. I had a Marinara dish. The mussels had absolutely nothing inside the shells. The prawns and calamari had been manufactured from something, somewhere. My partner also had a dish that was resplendent with empty mussel shells.I felt a bit queasy afterwards. They obviate the need to interact with any staff after ordering by taking payment at the table. They must survive by fresh influx of out-of-towners on the weekends looking for a nice meal by the waterfront. Surely no one would go there twice!
Chussey1234
Cold food and stale coffee. A group of us just ate here this morning. The food came out cold and the eggs were rubbery as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time before coming out. The coffee was stale tasting (Coffex mass brand) and comprised mostly of hot milk. When I informed the waiter of a sample of the issues, he did not offer a discount of any sort and just said that he would inform the supervisor. Shame as the location is great!
Ally20
What a waste of time - after having to hand over the credit card just to place an order and having to wait for over an hour to receive any food or drinks we were told that our order hadn't been placed. Not to mention the terrible service of the staff who, after many inquiries, just left us sitting at the table waiting for a glass of water because they were 'busy'.
A very disappointing effort for somewhere with potential. Unless you want to leave with an empty stomach I wouldn't go anywhere near the wharfshed!
Bruza 1
Absolutely appalling! Unfortunately can't even comment on food or drinks because after an hour, a glass smash and 3 follow ups we did not receive even a water. Would never go here again. Disappointing coming to Geelong to experience that!
Big Sos
Quite possibly the worst cafe in Australia. Ordered drinks and meals and after 45 minutes we were told sorry but we are really busy, reality check you have 13 people here and how long does it take to pour a glass of water. Story finishes by us not actually getting any food or drink. Rating = 0/100
Iceman
Not even location, location, location will save this place, which is a real shame. The Wharf could be superb......but it sadly is a culinary train wreck. On the upside the service is reasonably friendly and the location is magnifique!
Hayleysimms
Just plain terrible. Food is terrible, the service is non existent and for a place with table service, I'm expected to get up and get my own water. Pretty ridiculous.

Another thing is, on a busy night like Friday night, it's probably a good idea to have somebody in the outside section at all times. You guys make it pretty damn easy to skip out on a bill.
Peaceloveandfoodiness
Terrible meals. Situated in front of a beautiful view of the bay, you would think that this cafe could provide quality food but as I've been asked to eat here for work meetings, functions and catch-ups, I've started declining invitations to go or recommend other cafes nearby.
The service was good but there was a really 'grubby' feel to the restaurant on our recent visit. The chairs and tables were dirty, the cutlery and glasses looks about 5 years old, and it was difficult to see outside the windows because it looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months.
Moving onto the food, I opted for the salt and pepper calamari salad... Wow. I have not had calamari taste like this before - it was so overcooked that it was like chewing a leather boot that had been fried in old oil. The vegetables were fresh, at least. One guest had the caesar salad which had overcooked bacon, undercooked poached egg, and 17 anchovies, the next guest had a chicken wrap that was dry and bland, and our final guest had the parmigiana which was 'good' but the chips were soggy.
We won't be rushing back any time soon.
Jenna MacLeod
Very disappointing. They were very badly understaffed, it took almost half an hour for the waiter to take our order and another 1.5 hours to get our mains (after mentioning to a waiter that we'd been waiting for a long time!) which were inedible. I got a chicken and beef stir fry which I had about two bites of and couldn't eat the rest as it was very over cooked and had wayyyyyyy too much sauce on it. Very, very disappointing. Will not be going back!
Food Lover 101
Wow. This is an example of how a restaurant/cafe can get it very wrong.

The service is nice enough but for what you pay you would expect the wait staff to know a little more about their job.

We had a Lamb Back salad and Salt and Pepper Calamari. The calamari was oily, rubbery and bland. The lamb, requested as medium rare was very rare. Somehow it was tough.

Avoid like the plague.
Craig Floyd
Absolutely woeful. I purposely avoid this place because of the ordinary food and service but took some visitors there because of the view. Nothing had changed. Dirty tables crammed with dirty dishes and glasses and leftovers. The staff's idea of clearing a table was to move everything to the next table. Ordered drinks and after waiting twenty minutes went inside and ordered myself. That was after friend was told table service only. If that was the case we would still be waiting. The only bonus was those two drink were free. Avoid this place if your thirsty or hungry. I'd never take visitors there again it's embarrassing.
Tomsmum
Amazing service. We had the fish which was wonderfully delicious and second only to the amazing service by the wait staff.
Will defiantly be visiting again on my next trip to Geelong.

Favourite place for a casual meal. I have been regularly going here for several years now and consider it my favourite place for a casual meal. I have no idea where all the negative reviews have come from, very bewildering. The food is always delicious and matches the price well in regards to taste and portion sizes. The menu is also extensive, offering something for everyone. The salt and pepper calamari is always amazing, best I've ever tasted. The service is generally very good, although it gets understandably hectic during the summer. One time our entree was forgotten and when we queried this, it was given for free with no issues at all, despite us being happy to pay for it as long as it still arrives. Highly recommend it for anyone wanting a nice, casual meal at a beautiful location for a decent price.
Laura Ann
Awful Food & Service. My meal was practically inedible. Chicken Quesadilla didn't look or taste like it was cooked properly with undercooked kidney beans, corn etc and no sauce or seasoning in the Quesadilla. The chicken was lukewarm and tasted like it was reheated from the pre-cooked chicken you can buy in vacuum sealed plastic bags. It was so bad I had to eat something from somewhere else to get rid of the awful taste in my mouth. There was no offer of a refund following my complaint. The dips were runny which makes me wonder if they were watered down? The place was noisy and not relaxing at all despite being on the waterfront. Poor customer service left a lot to be desired. My advice to Wharf Shed Cafe - offer less meals so you can concentrate on quality.
Victoria Denkha
Worst food! I Ordered the chicken and it came out dripping blood when I cut it! Ordered lamb Souv next and it came out dripping blood!! You would think they would learn from the first meal
Rex
Mentioned that the toilets were very dirty (imagine). From that point onwards we had zero offers of table service. Our group was drinking $18- cocktails and onto deserts by this time. Staff basically wrote us off -FFFC you need to step in mate.

Where to begin??? We were t.... Where to begin???
We were told someone was coming to take our orders... Waited a few minutes...longer than the average wait.
After 20 minutes or so.. Decided to ask one of the waiters.. Finally someone took our orders.
We waited & waited for our fish & chips order..had they run out of their fish of the day??? Who knows?
The long & short was... We had to leave after being made to wait for over an hour for our simple order!
Disappointed? An understatement!
Can't even review the food--- twas a non-event.
Really need to rethink your service structure... Tis non-existent.
The only thing going for this place is the fact that they are fortunately right at the waterfront...
Nick
Had heard nothing but bad things about this place but went here for dinner with a couple of friends and I have to say the food was AMAZING! Meals came out extremely fast, the service was great and the atmosphere was good. Highly recommend

Easy meal. We ate here last night with some Geelong friends and had a good, inexpensive casual meal.
This place is NOT fine dining (Upstairs has that). It is a family, young ones very casual dining. Inside and outside on the foreshore at Geelong. The best way to describe this place is that is like a pub without the pub. Inside is very "barn like" with plain wooden tables and chairs. Outside is on bench tables. We shared some buttery garlic bread and herb bread to start. I had the salt and pepper calamari with vegetables instead of chips. ( I had chips for lunch). The calamari was pleasantly tender with a light batter. NOT oily and very tasty. Stir fried veggies were just OK but better than too many chips for the day. Evelyn and one of our friends had the grilled salmon fillet, also with vegetables instead of chips. Our other friend had a veal parmigiana AND the chips. Lots of them so I am glad I swapped them for vegetables. A glass of wine for one and a light beer for me (I was driving) made for a pleasant, if not fine dining, meal. if you want a casual, tasty and inexpensive meal on the waterfront, this is a good place.
Car
Underwhelming. Very keen to try this place as it has the best views of the bay,and looked good.
I ordered the fish of the day special of Flathead tails and was told there was a substitute of Barramundi. When it arrived it looked like something from a packet. I am still unsure what type of fish it was. Very over cooked and along with the wedges very oily. The salad was nice.
Husband ordered a small Parma, which he said tasted like a packet one.
Service was good and staff friendly and efficient.
Will not be returning!

Great location... but that's the only thing going for this place. Not even the great position of the Wharfshed can make up for the dreadful food there. We've given this place a few chances, and it is consistently bad and equally overpriced. This the worst option for dining along Geelong's Waterfront... it's a shame, because the location is fabulous.

Laughably bad. The staff have no idea what they are doing. Even for Geelong the coffee is bad. Tables are dirty. Food is fine if you're just after the usual "fast food" offerings, but twice the price of what it should be. Atmosphere reminded me of the mess hall of a backpacker's hostel, with "Cotton-Eye Joe" playing loudly in the background.

Just keep walking ...... I didn't check this place out on urbanspoon before stopping by on a hunt for breaky one Sunday morning. People, don't encourage them, stay away, take your custom elsewhere. Why are all the waterfront eateries just so hopelessly staffed by non-professional staff with a could not care less attitude ? The place also smelt like a greasy fryer inside.
Big signs say please wait to be seated, so we Stood around waiting to be seated with 3 staff cruising by and ignoring us. When I managed to get one to talk to me apparently only 1 of them is 'allowed' to seat us and they weren't around.
There are so many other lovely eateries, visit them instead and if it has a bad feel when you step inside like this place, don't waste your time.

Celebrated our 28th anniversary tonight, we were very well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Our waiters were so attentive to us, our main and dessert were just beautiful, thank you all for making this a night to remember.

I really enjoy the wharf shed cafe, I go there often. For a place that seats 400 people the atmosphere even on quiet days is good.
The staff are mostly friendly and always ready to help you if you need it. However an extra waiter or 2 in summer seems to be needed as it can take 10 minutes for your waiter to come to you. The staff seem to always be doing more than 1 thing at a time but they're still helpful.

Terrible, as all previous reviews inexperienced staff, poor service and average food. Waited 5 min to be seated although staff wandering around doing nothing. Seated at a sticky table. It sad as this resturaunt is in a good location and whoever is in charge is not fixing these ongoing problems. Asked waiter about reviews he said its not there fault.

Wharf sheds okay, nothing special, best part is the location ,I like the range of beers on tap..

HORRIBLE restaurant. We wer.... HORRIBLE restaurant.
We were seated outside for tea, provided menu's and then left to our devices. After 30 minutes we went inside to find some wait staff.
After placing our drinks, entree and main orders, we waited once again. 20 minutes later our entree and drinks arrived at the same time. Garlic and cheese pizza entree was good. Mains arrived shortly after. The food is terrible here. The pork belly with miso soup was more pork chops in soy sauce. It was that salty I'm still looking for water 5 hours later. The calamari wasnt fresh, and was rubbery.
On top of that, the outside eating area wasnt lit at all, yet every table inside had a candle. The table was also sticky.
Do NOT goto the restaurant. Keep walking along the water, there has to be something better.

After reading all the negative reviews I was a little hesitant, but figured why not.
Well the service was fine, can't fault them there. My wife ordered the chicken Parma which for $20 was about on par with a lot of places, nothing great, but not bad. I ordered the calamari for $24 and I was impressed with the serving size, however it was only average. It certainly wasn't fresh locally caught produce which I had hoped. For Geelong residents I'd say give it a go as it is in a nice location, but note you are probably paying extra for the view and not high quality food.

Poor Service. Booked it for a group of friends. Chose it based on location for Sunday Lunch. Well the very average, overpriced food, extremely poor customer service and lack of atmosphere negated the location . The wait staff are young and clearly don't want to be there. Out waitress found the whole process of taking our order burdensome. Like other reviewers have noted our table was sticky. My hands would stick to the table. The female toilets were unclean. The only positives were the food was delivered correctly and promptly(it was a quiet day though)
Save yourself some money just go to McDonalds, food is about the same but service will be better.

Ever seen a turd on the beach? Well imagine a giant one and you have the wharfshed. Total waste of a great location. Food is criminal and 'chef' should be publicly flogged for indecency to society. Ridiculous they have maintained such a poor standard for years and still get patronage. Boycott and we might get a decent restaurant there!

Noisy, rude staff and everything's kinda sticky.
Wait staff clearly more interested in themselves than any patrons.

I had no issues with service whatsoever. However the food was average, and overpriced for what it was. Chips had the flavor of being fried in heavily re-used or stale oil.
Brad
Do not recommend! Very poor quality food, and on the expensive side. Staff were not interested at all.

Do not waste your time with this place! The food was so disappointing, the service was disgraceful I have nothing good to say about the wharfshed!

Given this cafe numerous chances to prove itself but fails miserably. Slow, incompetent staff conversing within themselves, sticky tables and often poor food. Not to mention the poor table service for such a high priced cafe! :(

Doesn't Like It. Our group planned to have dinner at the Wharfshed Cafe for our Christmas celebration. Firstly, they would not take a booking for us as we were a party of 6. Their requirement for a booking is 10 or more. This rule was unbeknownst to me as someone else in the group tried to make the booking. I arrived first and spoke to "the manager" and told her of our booking. She declared that there was no booking. I began to wonder if I had the wrong date. She then explained the rule for booking to me. After our whole group arrived, we were at the head of the queue to be seated. Another party of 3 decided to ditch the queue and were seated before us. The waiter never inquired as to who was next. When we were seated, we were given a table that had the full sun coming through the windows and I was not able to see anything but the glare on the table. We moved to another table. Our server never smiled, never greeted us with a hello. She only asked if we wanted drinks. One of the ladies in our group asked to split the bill. The servers reply was, "we do not split the bills here. You will have to work it out at the register." Of course I knew that as I had been there for lunch about 3 years before. I just was hoping that they changed that rule. One of our group is celiac and decided to order 3 different tapas. I give credit to the menu writer in using a legend to highlight the meals that were suitable for celiacs. As a precaution though, she kindly reminded the server about the fact that she was a celiac. The server without any concern in her tone asked the patron if it had a "C" next to it and basically made her to feel uncomfortable. Our meals came out fairly quickly. We ran out of water but the server never returned to check on us until she thought it was time for us to order some dessert. When it came time for us to leave, we had not been given the bill. We had to go to the register to chase it down. I asked to pay for my portion of the bill and tried to give the gent my money. He was confused about it. He went to get "the manager". When I requested to pay my portion again, she claimed again that they do not split bills. Someone in our group mentioned having to pay their portion with credit card. She was denied the ability to do so and we were told that we had to look at the bill and work it out amongst ourselves. All she cared about was getting the total. I told her that all I had was a $ 50 note. I also told her that she need to make change for me. Oddly enough, she then asked me how much my portion was, counted out my $ 34.50 and then gave me my change from that and promptly put my $ 34.50 into a pile. One other of our group had the exact amount for her order. So it looked to me that "the manager" in essence had split the bill. HOW HARD IS IT TO DO THIS AND WHY HAVE SUCH A POLICY!!!! We will not return again and I am so sorry that I had hoped that it had changed in 3 years.

Not a dining experience I want to remember. Food very average, waitstaff inexperienced and without any obvious leadership...like an expensive Macdonalds with a poorer attitude to customer service. Tables loaded with uncleared dishes etc. not very impressed.

This is the worst restaurant I've been to in a long time. It's noisy, sticky, the staff are rude and appear untrained and the food is overpriced and poor quality, think frozen and nasty. This restaurant was so bad that it inspired me to write my first urban spoon review to warn others. Overall, hideous.

Dirty. After a nice afternoon walk along the waterfront, we decided to stop in at Wharfshed. Waiter took us to our table and we ordered drinks to start with while looking at the menu for mains. Drinks never came. Waiters had no customer service skills at all, rude and scruffy looking. Windows had spider webs around them and our table was sticky from previous diners. Meals were average but not worth the price. Not an enjoyable place to eat.
Charlotte
Serious attitude from waiters, poor lighting, drafty and long wait for food. Having said that food is still of a good standard.

Awful. I went to the Wharf Shed on Saturday night with a few friends, I ordered the Chicken Ceaser Salad. The waiter was great, the drinks came quickly, I ordered some cocktails and they were delicious - but my meal was actually inedible. I was really disapointed, it tasted as if, either the ceaser dressing was off or maybe the parmessen cheese. It was very bitter and extremely salty with a horrible after taste. The bacon was harder to eat than pork crackling. I had my friends taste it and they all agreed it was awful. The poached egg was the only part of the meal that I could actually stomach. My friend also had an issue with his steak, he said it had been cooked for the right amount of time, but it was under average and really didn't taste good at all.

I will not be going back there after that night, the atmosphere is nice but it does not make up for the poor tasting food.

Service was excellent, took our young son and they went out of there way to accommodate, fish and chips were a little greasy, pie was nice, coffee was nice, a tad expensive, but hey-good view

Great casual dinning. Awesome customer service, atmosphere, and food...with a view to match!

Going West?. We've never been to Geelong before, and came al this way to find there wasn't much to choose from. But we found this place; service was good, atmosphere was quite enjoyable, but felt a little uncomfortable about the price.

Overall not bad.

Delicious. A friend and I came in for dinner just last night and were blown away by the food and service at the Wharfshed Cafe. We were seated immediately and also given a choice as of where to sit. We were promptly served by happy and friendly wait staff! The dips and bread were fantastic!! Huge serve but still leaves you with enough room for mains! I had the classic spaghetti bolognese for a main and unlike some restaurants where the sauce tastes as though it comes from a can, this sauce tasted fresh and homemade, and it doesn't get much better than that! My friend had the greek salad with calamari and I have never seen her eat so much so fast in my life! Beautiful combination with the calamari, cooked to perfection! Thanks for a great evening!

Really not fantastic, from all the wait on our tapas - being a single $6 scallop, a small bowl (very small) of gritty whitebait, and some allegedly "spicy" calamari - to the sheer horror when our main meal arrived the whole wharf shed experience is one that has been seared into my memory and stomach. Unfortunately enough the tapas at $6 apiece was nothing to be desired when it came out to our table, however scrumptious it looked on the menu, starters were as a mother would say to her teenager "a bitter disappointment." we held our breaths as our main meal came out, the special ofthe day, the big sandwich, Which supposedly had marinated Greek lamb strips and salad, we were greeted with two thick slices of white bread, a slice of beetroot, shredded carrot and lettuce underneath a very sad excuse for marinated lamb. The only thing that filled us was the bread. Needless to say, I would have been happier with a PB&J sandwich.

A bit pricy, you have to hand in your ID before sitting down, waiter won't look at you until 10 minutes later, food is with tiny portion, terrible service, never again
Emmy
Awful service, food did come quickly but was so greasy we couldn't finish it. Was really disappointed with the quality of the food.

Great meeting place. Met a friend there recently. We arrived about 3 and niether of us had had lunch so we were hungry. My friend ordered the pork belly risotto, which was very good, I ordered two tapas dishes, the cheese puffs which I had with aoli, and the frittata which was served with bush tomato relish. The puffs were interesting as the cheese actually evaporates on frying so you are left with a hollow pastry tasting of cheese, I enjoyed them especially with some bush tomato relish. The frittata was ok , Ive never had one that had olives in it before. We decided to order an apple cheesecake to share and more hot drinks, which was yummy when it finally arrived. Unfortunately we ordered this at a shift change over and our order was lost, so we had to chase it up. It was a cosy place to meet on a dreary day with a lot of menu choices.

...for some absurd reason, I often feel the need to have my chosen meal out on the town at the Wharf Shed Cafe on the Waterfront. Maybe it is the water, and the close proximity to the shopping precinct as well as the prime views that pull me to this place but I am always so disappointed and frustrated when I come here. The reason why I am writing this review now is due to my recent visit there in which my friends and I ordered a cappuccino and two milkshakes in which we waited 45 minutes for and never received. When I did approach the counter to let the manager know she apologised offering nothing, making it obvious that it is a regular occurrence. The food here is quite bland, and the menu quite unimaginative . This makes The Wharf Shed Cafe perf
