Review Palace Of The Orient - Geelong

We came in tonight and had an absolutely brilliant meal. Started with satay chicken skewers, these were delicious. Spring rolls were also amazing as was the chicken corn soup. Fried rice was amazing and they made us a sweet and sour chicken which was full of flavour. BYO wine too! It was dated inside but that actually made it even better as it was like stepping back in time, it was kitsch and a lot of fun inside with Christmas music! We will be back, it’s kid friendly with great food

Not a single complaint ! We went today and made the staff aware that we had to leave in half an hour, they were very understanding and cooked our food quickly and in amazing quality! The staff were very kind and friendly, and the cooking was amazing! I enjoyed the ambiance very much, the lighting at night is gorgeous and the music and overall layout was fantastic. I would definitely come again and highly recommend!

Had 2 dishes, chicken with asparagus and mushrooms, and fish with black bean sauce served with steamed rice. The sauces were much too sweet and definitely not typical of Chinese cooking. Also the asparagus were past their use by date. When given feed back that the sauces were much too sweet, the waiter informed that that’s the only way they cook as they cater specifically for their old Western customers and will not change their cooking to suit Chinese customers !

As a long term customer who had not previously had a bad experience I was extremely disappointed with our takeaway last night. It cost me $71.00 for 2 x mains, 2 x rice & a entree which was a 10 % increase in price from our previous visit. While I could normally live with this given the current financial problems what I can't handle is the massive drop in quality of the food. Rice was cold and gluggy and the prawns in the honey prawn dish & satay combination were at least half the size they normally were & only the same amount supplied in the prawn dish. Was in no way worth the money spent & seriously considering looking at a different option. πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ˜’πŸ˜’

We recently dined here for dinner while visiting the area. Lovely owners & friendly service. Our food was top notch. We had dim sims, spring rolls & chicken & corn soup for entree's. Very tasty. The mains were absolutely delicious & if in the area again, will be back! We had the Singapore noodles, chicken & cashews, garlic steak & fried rice. Full of fresh vegetables & lovely sauces. Thank you for a great dinner!

The food here was delicious and the staff so friendly. It's always a relief when you are not from the area and you take a chance and it pays off. Will be stopping by again on future trips. Thank you for a wonderful meal!

This place reminded me of those 70-80’s chinese reataurant, red brick with tiny chinese sign on the wall, a bit gloomy with view of all round table with lazy susan. Not that i experience it, but i saw it on tv, and this is like experience it in real life, fun!
The food here are hit and miss, if u are a regular, then most probably ull know what is good, but for us, as this is our first time, i ordered a lot. So i know next time what to order.
Pigeon was good, the onion and bell peper compliments the flavour well, seafood in bird nest was good, scallop omellete was divine (we ordered it after reading from previous review here and yes, it wasnt in the menu but just mention it and they will cook it for u), fried rice and chicken corn soup was okay, blackbean was not as good as i expected and stir fry veg was basic.
Service was good, the new girl with blond long hair was a bit awkward but i guess coz shes still learning, nvm. Overall good experience and will go back for their scallop omellete and pigeon and will try other dishes.

A friend & I lunched here today & I chose their Scallop Omelette at $18.50 (not normally served to eat-in diners) whilst he chose their Mongolian Beef at $21. I found my Omelette really yummy with a variety of contrasting flavours and a sufficient number of scallops for the price, my friend literally raved about his beef claiming it was the best he'd ever had. Both dishes were served steaming hot and within 20 minutes of ordering. The service provision is always good here, I've eaten here twice before over the past 3 years. The instrumental piano background music was pleasant & could be heard over easily. By around 12:15pm the restaurant was about 70% full of happy chatting customers.

The Juror's Verdict: Food 4.5/5, Service Provision 4/5, Will I return: Yes, definitely

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Worst food ever...Please avoid. Definitely the worst food and service I have ever had in a restaurant in melbourne...
Don't waste your money... You'd beef dishes were dry and had a really weird smell to them...
Ick...

We had PeiQing Duck and Scollpe and Veggie here, I feel that my cooking actually is not too bad:)
Don't know how they become most popular take away restaurant in Geelong...
Won't come back again.

THE WORST food we have ever tasted! The roast duck was so dry, like it had been microwaved 100 times over. When we explained it was inedible, we were told that it was how the roast duck is usually done and we were offered a measley 10% discount!! One of the waitresses was also very unfriendly. AVOID AVOID AVOID! I wouldnt even be paid to eat here again.

Food was palatable the service was not. After having a fun night soured by feeling unwelcome and being publicly humiliated by a member of staff I was left feeling somewhat dissatisfied by my overall experience at the establishment. Kudos to the young gentleman however that was more than helpful in his attempt to make the night a pleasurable one. It is a shame that the actions of one person can tarnish the experience of a dozen customers. However, overall I would not recommend this establishment to the worst of my enemies.

Booked for dinner on Friday night, sit down for 15 minutes no one come to offer a glass of water or any greetings. I said ready to take order, and the waitress ask us to wait. There is another 5 miniutes, no one take care of us, so we decided to leave. Never seeing restaurant like this.

Enjoyable. My partnert and my 6 year old daughter enjoy going here to have the romantic banquet for two. There are items in this banquet we dont enjoy however the staff are more than happy to accomodate what changes we would like at no extra cost. The rice is very nice, Chicken soup is very enjoyable and most importantly the deep friend ice cream is delicious.

Just like any food place you need to try it out with your own taste buds to see if you like it.

The most DISGUSTING good I've ever tasted. ohe.chicken/cashews and beef/cashews were too salty, over id it with stock. The rice, however was bland, colourless, tasteless with hardly any meat in it. Sesame prawn was bland and tasteless. First and last time I'll use them . I mistakingly ordered from this wretched restaurant instead if the Fortune Garden in Belmont which is the best. Web site directed me dishonestly and I just ordered online. Too late to rectify the mistake as order had gone through.
