Review There There - Geelong

Zabrina Listya
Nice place to hang out. Prior entry ID and covid certificate will be checked. $10 for entrance. The open hours in Google is not updated, we nearly got to somewhere else because the google says it's closed, but apparently they're open.

Nice to step back in time. Staff were friendly, good venue and something different

We went here to celebrate a wedding with our family, the venue was fun and quirky. The spring rolls we had were delicious, the staff seemed really friendly. We liked that there was seltzer on tap! The cola wasn't very nice, seemed like off brand to me... So I just got lemonade. I did get given a chipped glass and so did my relatives, and the tables were wobbling. Overall it was a good and fun venue and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the event just a few minor let downs and there's not much parking around.

Security guards on a power trip. Get over yourselves.

Booked and still waited outside for an extra 15 minutes. When seated took another 10 for drink orders. Two thumbs down 😞

Ace little spot with friendly staff and a great atmosphere - went on a Friday night for happy hour burgers and pots. Was ecstatic when the gluten free option was also part of the happy hour deal! That never happens elsewhere. You guys made me so happy!

This place is in a beautiful building but the atmosphere here just isn't amazing. It's very stark and bare. There isn't a lot of selection for alcohol and the past few times I have been here they have run out of one of the beers on tap.

Great place for a drink. A nice spot to stop after work. Easy to walk past and miss but once you've been there you'll go back.

Love this place! Been a while, but always a good feed! The food is always fresh . Staff are friendly and happy to go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a nice feed! 👍

Was once good. Since reopening its lacklustre. Which is a shame because originally the food was great. But still good if you like mismatched couches and limited menu options.

Chilled. Now nearing the end of it's second year this unpretentious eaterie has a relaxed European feel. Good value, good food, good wine, friendly staff. You've got to try it. Mrs S especially loved the There There chips and the giant macaron. The apple pie did it for me.

Cracker!. Best thing to happen to Geelong in my opinion. Owners down to earth, food thoughtful and interesting, Staff fun and attentive, Craft beers and Cartel Coffee... Nothing about this place is disappointing. Try the thrice cooked chips, Calamari Chorizo, Pulled Pork... If you have haven't had a giant macaroon something is terribly wrong with you. Jolly good show! See you soon for a beer.

Fantastic! The staff were g.... Fantastic!
The staff were great and the food was delicious. I had the 24 hour cooked beef cheek and the quinoa and roasted vegetable salad, both were wonderful. For dessert I had the deep fried apple pie with sticky date ice cream and it was unbelievable. I am very particular about coffee this was perfect too. Portion sizes and prices were good and there's even convenient parking next door. I couldn't fault my dining experience.

Amazing. Where to start!? Queensland Banana Prawns are the best I've ever tasted. The mouth-watering succulent Korean BBQ Ribs are a must. But make sure you save room for the obligatory giant macaron (worth travelling from Melbourne for). Will definitely visit again the next time I'm in Geelong. Equally great was the service and atmosphere. Cheers guys!

Return trip just as good as the first. I love this place. Second time here and the food was just as amazing as the first time. Service was great, wine and beer menu was good, cocktails could use some originality.
The only thing I would say is while I appreciate a limited menu I wouldn't mind one of two more main options.
There were plenty of great sharing options but I felt the mains were just a little too limiting.
It is great to see the place so packed. Finally Geelong has a restaurant worth raving about with the thing that most places lack - CONSTITANCY!
Elyse Katherine
Absolutely amazing! Went there for dinner and a drink! Shared a really nice champaign as well as 5 tapas plates! Everything was so delicious and the service was perfect. Would go back there any night! Thanks!

Refreshing. It's great to see a progressive restaurant in Geelong (finally!). Each time we've dined there, the service has been good and the food has been fantastic. Between four of us, we tried most of the share plates, ordered a couple of drinks and were surprised with a total bill of $200. Awesome work guys!

Friendly service, nice atmosphere. I had the fettuccine marinara which may have been the best I've had. Registered for this site just to say what a great job they are doing. Keep up the good work.

0/10 for service! Sadly ca.... 0/10 for service!
Sadly can't rate the food as never got a chance to eat there! My partner & I booked a table there (a week in advance) for our anniversary. And on the day I called to advice we may be alittle late the staff member then stated I had no booking.. I told her I had given my name, number, date & time when I booked. Her conclusion was that the staff member mustn't have written it down and now they were all booked for the night. She said we could sit at the bar & she would save us a seat.. To my dismay even when we arrived there was no bar space! The women I spoke to on the phone gave no apologie and didn't seem bothered that my anniversary plans had now been ruined!

Great place. Dined here on the 2/11/13, as I didn't like any of the mains, we ordered 4 starters as our meal, beautifully cooked and tasted perfect although a little light on. I know it is a starter but could have done with 6 prawns not 4 for the $12. Add some more dishes to the main, chicken please! But alas, we will be back, glad to have found this place to eat. People give it a try, you will be back.

Mussel chowder was amazing and loaded with seafood!! Awesome craft beers behind the bar. Loved this restaurant!!
Boppy Chick
Good food, however overpriced and small portions. I really liked the food here. The dishes I ordered were great. It was good to share some food and then have a main. I had the ribs which were delicious. However, the serving was tiny tiny tiny and so you need to order a couple of entrees. All the other mains were also small and quite pricey. Food probably isn't worth what you are paying for so I wont be going back.

We went to There There for a bday weekday lunch! The service was great & the food refreshing! The pulled pork roll & chickpea chips were amazing!!! Can't wait to go back & try the dinner menu!

Great place!

Mixed feelings. I have mixed feelings about There There. Lets get to the negatives first. We were a group of four sitting right next to the front door (very unpleasant and uncomfortable ... we were constantly closing the door and felt like we were in the way) Secondly, the staff were not too friendly and dare I say one in particular was pretty pretentious. Thirdly, the menu is limited and overpriced in parts.

However, we did enjoy the pulled pork lettuce cups, the wild prawns, the tuna and the chicken pave.

Will I give it another go? I am not too sure ...

Great service, good food.. Went on Saturday night after hearing many good reports. The wait staff were fabulous, super fast and friendly. We had some shares to start, triple cooked chips, chicken won tons and char grilled capsicum which were all tasty but not anything OMG. Had the stuffed pork knuckle for main which was nice but needed some more veggies other then a small smattering of cabbage. Had the salted caramel macaron for dessert and that was quite delicious but you did need a cup of the wonderful Coffee Cartel coffee to cut the sweetness. The only negative about the night was as it starts to get busy it's SUPER loud and you can no longer hear the conversation at your own table.
Chris Travis
Great food. Really enjoyed the ribs and macaron. Will recommend this place to friends.
Amy
Lovely food, great atmosphere. I went to There There over the weekend with my family. We ordered lots of different dishes and shared it between us so got to try a big variety. LOVED the pulled pork lettuce cups and triple cooked chips! Will definitely be coming back.
Scooper
Although the food was delicious and presented nicely, the limited menu was overpriced and the service was a little slack. Will not be returning..

Title. The staff here are incredibly helpful, charming and personable. Making this miserable loser perched at the bar by himself feel genuinely welcome. It’s a great space, the fit out has been done so well.
The burger is the business. Sweet, succulent & the sauce was perfect. Washed down with a Little Creatures Pale Ale (is there anywhere else in Geelong with this on tap?) and I couldn't have asked for a better lunch.
Carly K
Delicious fish taco for lunch, took so long to decide what to have because everything sounded amazing. friend had the beef cheek pie, so yum. Can't wait to come back for dinner and try the sharing menu - BBQ pork ribs yes please!
Bloody
Overrated.. Shared some tasting plates tonight. Calamari was nice but tiny portion for the price($14) Prawns needed to be deveined to eat. Messy. Wontons were all pastry with a tiny amount of filling, taste just ok. Triple cooked chips were disappointing. Soggy, stale and not at all nice. Unfortunately Geelong diners are a little too easily pleased. Highlight was the lovely local Pinot Noir. Couldn't recommend.
Gemma
Dissapointing. I am really not one to go on urban spoon and give bad reviews but I really felt dissapointed with the menu here. I went with some girlfriends and we ordered the 'share' items. They were really small servings and nothing special. The food was overpriced and we all left feeling hungry! In fact we had to go to have 'second dinner' after eating here.

I can see what they are going with - sort of like a Geelong version of Chin Chin however the food just isn't worth what you pay.
Annie
Yum! Great food, nice atmosphere, best service and overall positive experience! Loved it and can't wait to go back!

There There is Miam Miam!. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The triple cooked chips are a complete indulgence but worth it – the hot gravy is presented in a scientific beaker for ‘self-medicating’. The chips are also served with a naughty slather of brie cheese. The Fried & Steamed Chicken Wontons were somehow crisp on one side and soft on the other, served with an accompanying sticky soy sauce. These divine pillows were bursting with flavour, and I am not normally a fan of Asian flavours. The menu is quite short, but for that reason not overwhelming. The Pulled Pork Lettuce Cups were a lovely balance of freshness and salt.

One member of our dining party was impressed with the full rainbow trout. Another found the Chicken PavĂ© with sweetcorn (and popped corn garnish) delicious, but just a tad on the small side for a main meal. On a separate occasion I have also tried the Ratatouille – it is comfortingly rustic and the thick and the crusty bread complements the rough cut texture of the ingredients.

The wine list is ample but like the menu, not overwhelming. The cocktails have to be tasted to be believed; the Espresso Martini is intensely bittersweet and uses locally sourced Cartel Coffee while the Strawberry Caprioska looks and tastes like innocence in a glass. The expansive premium beer and cider list will have you tempted to try each one on the list just to get a closer look at the exotic bottles.

If you’re looking for a cheap quickie counter meal or pub food, this is not the place to go. The dishes here should be enjoyed slowly and properly with friends that appreciate inspired and original full flavour cuisine.

Service was prompt and all smiles – we’ll definitely be back.

Sunday food. Great flavours and textures , prompt friendly service and good supporting wines. Young positive staff with ambition and keen to provide a great experience. We'll go back again

Wow! What an amazing place. Incredible, wholesome, tasty, mouthwatering food coupled with delightful, friendly service!! I will be reccomending this place to all my friends and coming here at every chance possible!!! Loved it!

An enjoyable night out. Had a lovely night out with a friend at There There. We had the calamari, the prawns, the wontons and the triple cooked chips. The calamari with the chorizo was a tad oily and in hindsight we should've dipped our chips in the gravy rather than drizzling it over as they became soggy rather than retaining their original crispiness. The chicken wontons were a definite standout. That said, the food was very tasty and the seafood was very fresh. Dessert was delicious - I had the ice cream sandwich with fudge and my friend had the salty caramel macaron with peanut ice cream. Although the plate the macaron was served on was so oversized it bordered on ridiculous. Service was a little slow and the waiters/waitresses a little inattentive at times, considering it wasn't a particularly busy night. Prices were reasonable at $40 each for 4 tapas and dessert. I would come here again but perhaps try the tuna (main) rather than ordering solely from the 'share' menu.
Jayski
So disappointed!! I was really looking forward to trying this place in the hope Geelong had a new good restaurant to add to it's fairly short list. However, I felt the portions were tiny and extremely over-priced for what you got. We ordered the share calamari, haloumi & I can't stress how small the portions were!
I ordered the only vegetarian main on the menu. It was a stuffed tomato sitting in a bowl of water. Stuffed with not cooked enough, crunchy quinoa. The dessert was great, a large salted caramel macaroon! Brought back sweet memories of France.
Service was average, but the man did day he was new, so that's forgivable.
All in all, disappointing.

Geelong needs more of this. Cook/Food books on bar bench are clearly inspiration to the sort of food being prepared here. Eclectic mix of food cultures as evidenced by fresh snapper ceviche(needed some olive oil), triple cooked chips with soft melting cheese and gravy, steamed chicken won tons pan fried on one side, chicken drumsticks with the bone removed served with a zesty red salsa, and pulled pork(little moist) with hoi sin served on lettuce discs. Calamari chorizo was the highlight for my partner. Oh yes and we finished with a giant macaron. Dense biscuit but it had to be to complement the thick caramel served with (steamed?)banana and peanut ice cream. The richness of this completed our meal quite nicely.

These chefs appear to be young but already putting out some well presented and tasty food. I'd love to see where things go from here.
Nicholas Heath
Excellent rebirth of the old 2faces premises and continues the tradition of great food. Hip new graze and share menu with lots of interesting brews. Giant macaron is beyond crazy good. Calamari a close second.

8.5/10 - Wish I was there at 'There There' again. This restaurant is one of the best things to happen to Geelong. The "local calamari with chorizo" is a must and the 'There There Chips" is so unique and yummy. I love the fact that the chefs bring out the meals for you instead of the waiters/waitresses, it just goes to show the effort they put in. All meals were beautifully presented and tasted great. The waiting staff are probably new as they seemed a bit awkward at times. All in all, a great experience and I will be back. Highly recommend this restaurant for people who are after good quality over large quantity.

Food: 10/10
Service: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Price: 8/10

3rd time eating there and have been nothing but impressed and educated every-time.
Great food, wine and casual setting, exactly what Geelong needs to try and steal itself away from the "pot n' parmi" mentality.
This is the place.

Third visit to Therethere and could not make a complaint thus far. Amazing selection as always. Favourites this time around were the ribs (as well as the pulled pork lettuce cups which are a non negotiable addition).

Had a great meal with subtle, yet attentive and personable service. Lovely flavours on each plate, which enticed us with aroma and visual cues. Thoroughly recommend the snapper ceviche and the local calamari with chorizo. I also particularly liked the coconut prawns with pickled green chilli. Well done!

For too long I've been saying "Must go to There There!" And I'm stoked to say I finally did and it did not disappoint one bit! Great vibe, super friendly and helpful service, fun decor and that's all before the first bite. Food was amazing, dishes well thought out with fresh local produce and different mouth watering combinations that have me keen for my next encounter (much sooner this time). Good times and just what Geetroit needed! Mmm mmm mmm!

Yes!!. Had dinner here last night on a overnight stay in Geelong, Amazing find! Ribs where some of the best we have ever tried, actually all the dishes we tried where great, wanted to avoid the over priced tourist traps down by the water and did so with this little find. Being in the industry I don`t like to take to these kind of websites as they can be a bit harsh at times but couldn't resist with this place, well done guys will be back when in town again.
MrGrenade
Yes !. What an experience, the food, the professionalism and of course the service, If your in Geelong City this is the place to eat casual yet stylish the food is presented with skill! The staff rock and are pretty friendly ! The deserts could possibly be the best I have had. The Wine list is pretty impressive and well thought out. I love the fact they are going to introduce natural wines soon. Cocktails are great ! and finish of the evening with a Syphon coffee ? Who else is doing that in Geelong?

Overall I am impressed .. Music ,Food, Wine I LOVE IT ! soooo good to have you in Geelong.

And not to forget the dears Head looks amazing.

Check them out !

This place is unreal get on it

Possibly the best food I have eaten in Geelong.

Good food, great service. Probably the best restaurant in geelong. Highly recommended
Britt
This was my 4th dinner at there there and I've never been disappointed. The new menu is so good it's hard decide between the sharing plates and mains - with a few old favourites (lettuce cups, wontons and giant macaron) I'll definitely be back to try everything I haven't yet. The atmosphere is relaxed and the music is great. Nice to have a delicious meal without the fine dinning setting, waitstaff are always friendly and helpful. Definitely a new favourite for geelong
Sandi Parravicini Clarke
Awesome. Great food had late lunch with family only people in the room and the food was sensational, as a family we love food that we can't prep at home and this was the bomb....great flavours fantastic venue and thank you for the service
Jackie Butler
What an absolutely beautiful dinner! No complaints whatsoever. Shredded pork lettuce cups, drumsticks with salsa, BBQ Korean ribs, Wagyu Beef, Kipfler potatoes with green beans and an avocado, fennel and grapefruit salad! Topped off with ice-cream sandwich with fudge... Shared between 4 people. Food was amazing, as was the service and topped it off with a local Sauvignon Blanc - Livewire. Highly recommend and will definitely return. The owners were the chefs, lovely guys who even bought some of the food to your table!
Julia D
Well this placed has just popped onto the map! Finally another nice place to eat in geelong! I thought we'd almost run out! It's so different to what's on offer and in a quirky way does well to deliver a great menu! Good job guys!
Shaj
Nice food but what a wank! Service very ordinary and gimmicks like coffee in a beaker and huge cake stands for the dessert just laughable. Won't be going back. Music too loud way too noisy for ant sort of conversation.
Rick Measham
Wow. Just wow. Where did this place come from? Dropped into Geelong by the gods if gastronomy, the entire share menu is fantastic. Try the Sashimi Kingfish (with lime meringues) for a level 10 mouthgasm.
Waz
Amazing. Friendly. Great quality.. Called in after a few drinks somewhere else and was tempted by the menu so decided to stay.

Excellent mojito, great German wheat beer and the food - amazing. Beef cheek with vanilla, half chicken... What do you go with?

We finished with the giant macaroon - which three of us shared... Rivalled what we've had at Vue so give it a go. Friendly without being overbearing service and the chef bought the desert to the table - a really nice touch to a great meal.

Three of us, three courses (one shared) plenty of drinks and sides - under $200. Going back soon...
Steph
Trailblazing in G-Town. Definitely a new gem we can add to the all-occasions eating scene in Geelong.

Firstly, the building is gorgeous. A grand, old brick building which has clearly undergone some serious internal work since its previous tenants - someone has spent hours wiring up that bad boy! Love the stag mounted head up on the wall, and the vespa in the entrance is a cool touch.

The long, wooden bar with stools is a great alternative to eating at one of the round tables or booths, or for a couple of bevs (great boutique beers) before dinner. Will look great once the collection of liquor bottles has grown and lines the top of the bar.

Shared a starter of scallops and pork cups - both spot on. For main I had the bouillabaisse, which I'm reliably told is the young French chef's signature dish. It was off the hook. A heap of mussels, crab, fish and prawns with a rich tomato and herb base, served in a large iron pot.

But the moneyshot item on the menu is clearly the giant macaron. Aptly described, it's as big as a dinner plate! 12 mini-macarons in one I think they said. What a monster. Inside is salty caramel, caramelised banana and peanut ice-cream. It literally takes your breath away when it's brought out and served on an oversized glass cake stand. The females at our table were visibly salivating!

The food has all the makings of a gourmet menu, yet it's not overdone and is simple to eat and share. Vibe and price-wise, you would be happy to pop in for a quick mid-week meal or a leisurely few courses on a bustling weekend evening.

The staff were fresh-faced and friendly and the chef popped out to serve some of the meals which was a great touch.

A cool and casual atmosphere coupled with professional service and exceptional food. Do yourself a favour and get around it.

Taste Sensations. I have been fortunate enough to have eaten at There There on 3 occasions and each time I have come away absolutely delighted with the whole experience. The flavours in each dish are superb, the presentation is exciting and the service second to none. Add to this the great wine list and what must have to be the best coffee in town amidst an atmosphere brimming with energy and flair. I will certainly be going back for more, and as the menu is constantly changing, I am sure I will never tire of what is on offer. Well done to the team behind this new venture!
Frank Wall
New place, great staff, great food, nice feel. Love it and not too expensive ( actually magic food!)

Second time at there there this evening. Two out of two times I've left feeling great. So good to finally see a place in Geelong with a well thought out menu, passionate staff and a jumping atmosphere. Pork shoulder was epic and the mint sorbet was the best dessert I've had in a long time. Hope the place goes well and people appreciate it as a step away from the pot and Parma in town. Wait staff were friendly and the guy with the pony tail is a babe! Chef also made an effort with customers...for a well known local chef this was nice to see. 10 outa 10 food!!! Highly recommend!
Laura
AMAZING!. I dined at There There last night and can't wait to go back! The space is open and even on a Tuesday night had a great atmosphere. The food was amazing and service was fantastic. There is a great selection of beverages too. Would highly recommend the pork lettuce cup!
Kyle Birkett
Well that was amazing! Fun staff, detailed and delicious meals, awe inspiring dessert and funky tunes. New regular.

Great addition to Geelong's restaurant scene. After hearing only good things decided to give There There a try on the weekend.
Great open space and wooden floors- the decor was a little bit sparse but understand it's only been open for a week.
We were greeted at the door and the wait staff were generally very friendly, did have to get their attention for drinks a couple of times and felt they weren't overly confident conversing with customers and clearing plates.
Tried the pork lettuce cups, triple cooked chips and wontons to start. The pork in the lettuce cups was so tasty and soft- probably could have had a little bit more meat to the serving and the only fault was the lettuce cups were very wet. Could have eaten 10 of these!
The chips aren't just chips either- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside- served with a beaker of gravy and a slice of cheese melting over the top- delish!
The chicken wontons were delicious too....All of these plates were just enough for two people to share.
Also tried a salad and meat dish. It was a bit strange as the salad came out last after everything else was finished.
Overall we were really happy with the food and the sharing style of it all.
Good wine list and selection of beers however did notice there were no local wines which was a bit disappointing given there are so many great wineries around.
Will definitely head back!!
Tiqueyo
Great vibe. Ate there a couple of nights ago and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Food was fresh, service efficient and local beers were really cool. Recommendations- mint sorbet dessert and seafood bouillabaisse. Be back very soon!!!
Josh
Went to there there with a big group of friends everyone ordered a different meal and everyone was blown away with how good they were. And you have to try the desserts amazing.
Nathan
Ripping. I went after their opening weekend and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food- simply delightful! My favourite was the sashimi kingfish with lime meringue, probably neck and neck with the last time I ate sashimi kingfish at Nobu in Melbourne. To say I was impressed was an understatement. I liked the decoration and atmosphere too. I'll definitely be back, and with more friends this time! I recommend others to have a try too!
Ben O'Halloran
Outstanding!. Ate here on their opening night and was extremely impressed. The place was packed and had a great vibe with young, friendly, efficient staff. Food was outstanding. They have a sharing type menu and I sampled the oysters, pulled pork lettuce cups, kingfish and cheese puffs. All delicious and exactingly prepared. WIll be heading back soon with a couple of mates to sample the Tomahawk steak which was hands down the biggest and most delicious looking steak i have seen going to a table next to us. Wine and beer list is great with a focus on local boutique drops. They also do perfect Cartel coffee. I met the two young Chefs who own the place and was extremely impressed with their ideas and enthusiasm. Great work guys, looking forward to heading back soon!
