It was a real adventure finding Masaaki’s on a Friday! Such a great story, and obvious that there is a lot of love in the preparation of the food. The sushi is super fresh, the miso soup excellent. Real wasabi.....so good!

Browsing some photos of Masaaki's Sushi brought back a lot of memories of Tasmania. I drove from Hobart to Geeveston for 90 minutes on Friday morning. I was thinking of not going at all, but when preparing my itinerary for Friday, it turned out that I could slip in some new items into the plan. I sent a message to Masaaki's Sushi through Facebook to see whether they had a free spot for a solo diner at their restaurant. Chef Masaaki replied at 3 AM. Unfortunately, the restaurant was already fully booked. I decided to get a takeaway instead.
Worth the long drive ! Everything was so fresh and even the wasabi is fresh. The salmon just melted in my mouth. Amazing sushi ! So flavourful !
Lovely light combination of flavors, you can taste freshness in every bite. Masaaki must have a very delicate technique because I didn't feel sickly full of rice after eating his sushi, it was just right. Perfectly paired with hot vegetable miso soup. Really great.

The smoky kiss of a blowtorch has converted the fattiness of salmon belly into a mouthful of melt-in-the-mouth lusciousness. The aburi salmon sushi, brushed lightly with soy sauce, is a highlight.
Yummy sushi and very fresh seafood. Masaaki is a sushi master! It becomes very busy so make sure you book for a table, but they also do takeaway!

THE best sushi is made here, only on Friday and Saturday but it's worth the trip to Geeveston. The folks there are so friendly as well. I love this place

Masaaki is a definite celebrity when it comes to Sushi in Tasmania. He owns a small store behind the shops in Geeveston, a rural logging town down bottom of the Huon Valley. Masaaki’s is only open Friday and Saturday for a few hours around lunchtime, but sells out well before closing time, with good reason.. it’s among the best sushi we’ve ever had, and on par with the sushi places we went to in Tokyo. There’s no real menu, just a basic price list for the rolls, nigiri, etc. What he’s making that day depends what ingredients he can get his hands on, and most of the ingredients are locally grown/sourced. The absolute best way to experience Masaaki’s creations is to ask for a tasting platter ($25 per person), which is what’s shown in a few of the photos below. We always just order that, letting him give us whatever he feels is best that day, and have never been disappointed. If you can’t make it to Geeveston, you can also find him on Sundays at the Farm Gate Market in Hobart. Again, he sells out quick so you need to get in decently early.
Completely worth the 1.5hour drive! I honestly had my doubts about how good or different the sushi could be but I was happily proven wrong. I could have easily smashed another box if I had the chance. I’d highly recommend preordering as the line is LONG and they can be sold out very quickly.

The sushi and sashimi are AMAZING! Not only the flavours are great, the taste is scrumptious, but also the thoughts that the chef put into it (different sauces and condiments to go with each bite and the presentation is beautiful) . The ingredients are super fresh! The staff were very friendly and helpful! It was soooo good that I had to go back two more times after we had our lunch there!!!
From Japanese point of view, it was authentic! Rice was just right in softness. Also, fish was fresh. Even packed soy source for takeaway is from Japan, which I was amazed. Good luck on your business!
It is now (February 6th 2022) a simple little caravan serving take away sushi and sashimi packs.
The product stands head and shoulders with the very best any sushi chef would provide.
Definitely worth the trip.

You can easily tell from the first bite the sushi is very fresh and everything is so well seasoned. The wasabi provided I believe is made from fresh wasabi? A sensational experience 😋
