The price of fish at Pirates Catch may be a little bit higher than say buying from Coles Supermarket a few doors away BUT, the is a huge difference in quality and freshness. The end product served on the dinner plate at home shows why I don't mind paying a bit more for fresh fish at Pirates Catch.
Great lunch time quickee. Not much seating. Good salad alternatives to chips. Old style burgers (yes! Let's lose that US-inspired burger rubbish). Selection of fish for your warm meal & a few stale beers (crown or corona).
Food was ok. Good thing is that the fried fish and chips doesn't have the stale oil smell and the batter is not too bad. We also had chicken soubvaki but nothing to rave about. The down point is that this place seems really dirty with sticky tables, dusty menu and sauce stained paper napkin holder.
Worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life.
The fish was already battered and frozen. Tasted like cardboard. The batter was three times as thick as the fish. Chips were not fresh, tasted like burnt carpet.
Best chips around. Quality fresh fish. I suggest the Captain's pack as a lunch time feed. Quick tip.
Ask the owner about his previous stores, he has a great successful business history and is happy to describe why he is so successful. Very interesting stuff
Literally the best fish and chips I have been to in Melbourne. I had the catch of the day (Whiting), it was delicious. The staff was great and it was an overall 5 star place to go.

Decided to try this after reading the reviews..and its true. I had fish here and it is, simple, no-frills and extremely tasty fish and chips! Everything you'd want for a satisfying lunch.
