Review Fedele's Ristorante Italiano - Glen Waverley

Eric Kok
About 10 tables only due to covid + function room. Food took some time to be served. Eye fillet steak was cooked well. Latte was good. Happy to come back again.

Cosy warm atmosphere. Authentic delicious Italian food. Easy parking.

I went here for the first time on the weekend and my boyfriend had been here 20 years ago . The decor was homey and I loved the colour scheme . I’ve course the original owners have retired but the staff were all wonderful and polite . The food was great , and my main meal gnocchi was so good , unlike some places this gnocchi tasted fresh and home made . The cocktails and the couple of wines we had were nice . Will definitely be coming back here

Superlicious. Good specially the chef’s choice entréé.. enjoyed the Italian food

This is that restaurant I go to and expect a quality experience. The ambiance was lovely as always with a modern feel, soft lighting and an easy warmth to the place. As a licensed venue, the drink selection was perfect for me. The food was on par to my expectations and the service was attentive. It was sometimes harder for a restaurant to look after a group celebrating and in this case they did very well. Would I come back, for special events certainly.

A nice Italian restaurant with friendly staff. The menu offered a small selection, but sufficient to cover the more popular staples. The gnocchi was excellent, full of flavour and well prepared. The tortellini was tasty and tender with mild flavours. The spaghetti marinara had mild flavours of seafood - could be better. Great coffee to finish.

I have always loved going to Fedeles but my last experience was very disappointing. The service was very slow and not overly friendly. My pasta dish was very oily, not much seafood at all and barely warm. I overall think they were rather complacent.

Loved the food. Great presentation.

I dined in on Monday 30th June 2014 with my family. Excellent food and friendly service I must say the dessert Amor DI CIOCCOLATO was amazing and it tasted fabulous Complaints to the chef Would recommend to my friends and Family :) Thank You once again will be coming back again

Good wholesome italian food with traditional male italian waiters

A lovely meal with 5 adorable girlfriends ended with a bitter taste - Fedeles refusal to split the bill into 4 credit cards as less than $100 was to be charged per card. This is no where to be found mentioned on their website, was not mentioned upon booking, not stated on arrival nor did I see it on the menu...... Refer to Lucy's comments. Had we been sitting on 6 individual tables we could have paid on CC for <$100..... We WONT be back.

Had a wonderful dinner. The food is amazing and the service couldn't have been better.
Courtney Berris
Fantastic food and wine, great service and beautiful decor. Couldn't fault it.

If u are looking for a great restaurant that has new management in the Glen Waverley Area check this place out!!!

I have been to your restaurant a number of times & it has been brilliant, great food, great service. I came tonight, the service was excellent, but the food bad. For the price you expect a lovely meal, 4 out of the 5 of us were severely disappointed. I am sorry to say I won't be back.

love the steak, cooked perfectly

Wonderful new owners with an awesome menu

First time and prob last, went searching for a typical Italian restaurant, order a antipasto which had prawns, oysters and quiche not typical a real mix of warm and cold?? Then we ordered the salmon and gnocchi, salmon was alright overdone but the gnocchi, no flavor Watery oily mess. Not worth it

This was my second visit to Fedele’s and my experience was vastly different to the first. Service was woeful. Food was just ok but unfortunately the two hour wait for food with no apology just can’t be forgiven. Highly not recommended!
Vanessa Tran
Service was fantastic, came in with my partner and waiter offered for us to go in a quiet dining area which was very thoughtful. Great dining experience, our lovely waiter was able to recommend certain wines according to our taste and preference, and had great timing in coming over to our dining table to grab entrees, pour more water etc.<br/><br/><br/>Food quality was great, which they had more on the menu but did definitely satisfy my Italian homemade pasta cravings with a modern twist. Gnocchi was a lovely dish as well, full of flavour and rich, got abit sickening after half of it but my partner and I decided to swap out dishes to have a taste of each other's choices. <br/><br/>Great place to dine at, waiters who serve with patience, care and have the knowledge. Will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu.

Rang to book a table, the man was very rude on the phone. Tried to overlook that but the service was terrible & ruined our whole night! The food was nothing special either. Very rude and condescending staff

This is a long one... I had such high hopes for this restaurant. I’d heard about this place, albeit I was told a little pricey (which, for good Italian, I don’t mind) but I was sadly disappointed. The starters options were minimal and the only vegetarian option was the bread! The waiting staff were .... interesting (somewhat creepy, but nice enough - hard to explain). Frustrating again, they only had one vegetarian option for mains. My partner said his meal was lovely and to be honest mine was ok, pasta itself was beautiful- just the sauce was basic and confusing. They just threw a load of vegetables together and the amount of eggplant they used was just overwhelming! The dish didn’t even say it had eggplant on the menu, so I’m lucky I don’t mind eggplant. My meal was taken away from me before I was finished, which I couldn’t believe. Not even asked, just removed from under my nose. It happened so quickly and I was so shocked; I didn’t know what to say. <br/>My tip, ok if you’re a meat eater and don’t mind the weird, abrupt staff! They give off a sense of ‘Ego’ which I assure you, they don’t deserve. I had hoped good things, cause we need a good Italian out south east, but looks like it’ll be the old food chain - 400 Gradi next time; at least they’re progressive and offer vegetarian options and offer a modern ambience and decor.

Look I was pretty disappointed with this place. The staff weren’t very friendly or helpful. It took about 45 mins for us to get food. I do understand that there was 16 of us- but there wasn’t anyone else there ordering food. Also it was $2.50 a head to serve the cake that we bought. I had gnocchi and it was okay, but not amazing
Rochelle Anneliese
Horrendous customer service. Two waiters were standing and staring into thin air whilst we waited for our orders to be taken. When my dad politely asked how long it would take to get food, the guy replied with "well it takes time to cook 16 meals" in the most condescending tone. The food was ok. Would have had a better experience at McDonald's McCafe. Not only that but they informed us that we had to pay $2.50 per head to cut a cake that we had brought.<br/><br/>Honestly, do not eat here.
Bun's Food Diaries
It feels like the kind of place you go to for those special occasions as it certainly gives off those upper end vibes, dim lighting and good amount of spacing between tables. On this occasions we were very much in and out quickly for dinner needing to make it to an appointment afterwards. I had the veal tortellini which was creamy and filling. My partner had the glazed duck which was pleasant as well, I did find parts of the duck a bit dry though. The dishes did take a little while to arrive considering it wasn't a busy night. Service overall was good.
Steph
We were all very impressed with our Christmas lunch here today! The menu was top quality, the service was excellent and the atmosphere spot-on. Well done Fedele's! You exceeded our expectations, thank you!
Munashe Zinanga
Lovely setting and decor; waiters leave the menu with you for a while. Service is slow. You have to wave them down to order food. <br/>Ordered our food, waited over an hour and when the food did come about half (of our party of 6) had been made incorrectly. <br/>The portions are generous and price not worth the wait, unfortunately. <br/>The service was slow, food average best believe the bill came real quick and they aren’t shy to offer split/multiple payments. <br/>Would continue to drive past this one.. Nothing great!
Elle
Every meal we ordered was generally nice but in no way great or outstanding. I've had a much better version of each dish at many other restaurants and for a much more reasonable price!<br/><br/>For what we got, the main meals are far too expensive...who ever is responsible for the prices on that menu need to pull their heads out...it's not Melbourne City guys...its Glen Waverly and your restaurant is pretty cheap and crappy looking for one labeled "fine dining." Let's be real...it's 2017 and presentation is everything.<br/><br/>The portions were quite reasonable. <br/>However, and I'm not usually one to fault a restaurant based more on its service than its actual food, the service on the evening we dined was awful. Was quite a shame considering we were celebrating and spent over $400 for 8 people. Our waitress showed absolutely no interest in our table and God forbid you requested a water top up or inquired about the menu! She responded with crappy attitude. The manager (or at least we think he was) was also rude and very unprofessional.<br/><br/>For the price tag, Fedele's is an all around poor dining experience. We regret our decision to celebrate here.

Came for dinner with my family, service was really friendly and the interior of the restaurant is very nice. The meals were really pleasant, all of the elements were really well cooked, tasty.. and full of flavour. To start we shared the antipasto patter which came with a variety of deli meats, chorizo, salmon and oysters with pita, cheeses and pickled vegetables... I ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly and came with a nice assortment of vegetables. Really nice little restaurant hiding in the suburbs.
Jin Jau Liau
The food and ambience were both good. I came here with a couple of friends during a weekday and we shared the antipasto, gnocchi, duck fillet, tiramisu and creme brulee. The gnocchi tasted great. The duck fillet portion was pretty small. Overall, the food was decent but the service was average. We had some difficulty finding the waiting staff to get us our bill and they only ocassionally filled our glasses of water.
Steph Giles
I went here for a work dinner and had a nice meal though now looking at the pricing it is more than I would have expected. Standout for me was the gnocchi with truffle oil butter sauce - absolutely mouthwatering. Porterhouse steak in red wine sauce was lovely and well cooked but there was a little too much red cabbage and minimal other sides. Choc pudding for dessert was also nice but nothing memorable. Wines were on point with a Levantine Hill Sav Blanc and a particularly nice and fruity 2016 Paringa Estate Pinot Noir. Pleasant meal overall with good service but perhaps a little pricey.
Beachie111
Dad's birthday and he chose he is 82 btw...<br/><br/>I read the harsh reviews and had an open mind<br/><br/>Brushetta was 10/10 as a shared entree <br/><br/>Mains very pricey and my fav..the sides are additional $$$ a fact not explained to any of the 6 guests.<br/><br/>So when a main is around $40 + <br/>》》》》》 one would expect an veggies or salad. <br/> But N0...<br/>Everyone loved the mains but it was very awkward expecting more to arrive like a shared platter.<br/>Would i return.. not sure.<br/><br/>Better value by driving toward the city where more competition exists.
Michelle
Meh food. Bruschetta was nice but it was so soggy it was falling apart. But I am truly DISGUSTED though that you dared to charge us to cut our birthday cake!!! $3.50 for a slice! DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have NEVER in my life heard of a restaurant so stingy to charge people for cake!! We asked to cut it ourselves and apparently you can't???? What disgusting rule is this for?!!!!!! Because it's a safety hazard? Oh PLEASE we used a knife and fork for our meal. You are very lucky that it was a big table and it wasn't my end that heard about this ridiculous charge. <br/>Never go to this restaurant for a birthday they are complete stinges!!!!!!!!
Willtravelforfood17
Old school Italian with traditional food and warm service. The atmosphere is a little dreary for me but the spaghetti marinara was not bad plus the serving was huge. Not sure if I'll go back though as it was nothing to shout about.

Lovely Italian restaurant on the South East side. The seafood pasta was delicious and the medium-rare steak was succulent and done correctly. Nice wine list. Ambience was cosy and intimate and wait staff were warm and knowledgeable and very helpful in wine recommendations. A bit high end but worth a try.
AlmostHangry
The food here is very nice - I had a lovely, fresh seafood pasta dish and a delicious bruschetta. Not something I usually order, but it was recommended by the staff and I'm glad we went with it. The service is what takes this place to another level, though! This is a place we'll go out of our way to visit.

It was a surprise birthday dinner that took me at Fedele's yesterday. Being a Tuesday night, it was not too crowded even with a private function happening in the adjacent room. The service was  excellent, the staff warm and friendly. The food took a bit of time of arrive but the staff kept apologizing saying that the kitchen was a bit busy due to the function but honestly, we didnt really mind. A really good wine list with a lot of Australian wines; we tasted three all of which were good. Fedele's is on the expensive side but the food is presented well and tastes delicious. And the staff even surprised me with sparklers on my dessert when they found out it's my birthday. Overall a really happy experience; its a place I would go back to for a special occasion and not for a casual meal.

This is the worst place ever. I made a booking for a party of 30 in December and called to confirm and was told that my booking was not on. This happened last year and I thought I give them another shot and what a bloody mistake. I was offered no alternative and the staff were totally unprofessional. They just lost me and a host of customers.

We have been here several times over the past few years.  It is quite popular so best to book.  Service is quite good, the food is regularly nice but gets a bit crowded and noisy.  The last time we went there were white egg lights on every table. One of my guests started playing with ours and changing the colours, then after a while we looked around and every other table had adjusted their lights too,  so all the tables were now colourful, haha.  Lights aside, the food here is good solid Italian, not as good as papa or mama used to make but acceptable to the palate.

I'm very surprised by some of the reviews of Fedele's. We've been here a few times and would definately come more often if possible. It is a little on the expensive side,  but it's what you expect to pay when dining somewhere for a special evening. The atmosphere is very quiet with a nice ambiance. The service is first-class with knowledgeable waitering staff happy to assist with menu selections and wine choices. The food has been consistently good each time we've been here. Hope to come back here soon!

A farewell lunch at work saw us descend en masse at Fedele's Ristorante Italiano.  They conveniently have a 2 courses + wine/beer for $40.  My only gripe about the lunch menu was that it didn't have any vegetarian options for mains.  The anti pasto for entree can be modified to suit vegetarians but that was about it.  I'm only mentioning this as it influenced my choices of two courses as I stuck to more of a pescatarian bent.
Ruby Love
This place is just too expensive and when I went with a group, we all left still hungry after two courses... When you pay a fortune you expect to feel full!
Jilba Georgalis
My husband and I went here for dinner with several other couples and were not impressed by the size of the dishes. Sure, very tasty, but for the price (exorbitant!) you would at least hope to be satisfied. Even with a main and dessert we left hungry and won't be back.
Nay Nay
I didn't like the way this place looked! Didn't like the interior decorations the table layouts and most of all didn't like the service. For the price that it is I couldn't justify the service the service was slow... But what I can say which is positive is that when I got the food it was actually really good! Cooked well and full of flavour! Just a few 1%ers.

I came here for a birthday dinner a couple of years ago. <br/>Seriously! Just hearing the name of this place brings back strong memories of the bad service. <br/>Food was good but if your service is bad you turn me off right away!!! <br/>And i tell everyone who asks or mentions this place about it too!! <br/>It started when we were asked by a male waiter if we would like the wine/drinks menu, when we expressed we were ok with water THE LOOK ON HIS FACE! <br/>It was very obvious that he was hoping we would buy up big on drinks and that we had let him down. <br/>It wasnt just me who noticed this, EVERYONE at the table had something to say about it. <br/>However there was a lovely female waitress who took our order for food and was wonderful! <br/>The male waiter continued to be rude and not accommodating at all! <br/>I hope he was just having a bad day. I get it! we all have bad days! but spare your future customers please! <br/>It was that bad that we didnt want to stay, we quickly ate and there was no way we were going to have dessert! This also upset the male waiter. We received no apology for the bad service even though one of my friends politely gave her feedback. My advice? go to Sette Bello down the road <br/>

Went for a group dinner. Food was nice. However the ?head waiter hovered over our table with the EFTPOS machine at the end of the night, interrupting our conversation. If we were last to leave, I'd understand, but it wasn't late & other tables were still seated. To then find he had circled the area to write in the tip on the bill without any consult is rude. I prefer to tip the wait staff who waited on our table with cash to reward their good service, not put it into the restaurant coffers. This man kept hounding me for a 10% tip. So annoyed. His greed spoiled the night for me.
Jermayne Williams
Don't bother with this place. The owners have changed many times and they are now no where near what they used to be. Just try Sette Bello a few minutes away if u want good Italian in the area.
Tony
I had big expectations coming here. I ordered the veil. I thought good restaurant will nail this! Oh boy was I wrong. I could not get over how oily my meal was. Will never go back.
TrustyTraveller
Why did I have to witness the owner put back dropped cutlery in the clean tray?? Spoilt the otherwise perfect occasion. Food and ambience was great nonetheless.

My partner took me here for a surprise dinner for our anniversary tonight. We had a late booking as my partner worked late, but we were never rushed nor made to feel like we were holding them up. The head waiter (I'm sorry that I didn't get his name, he was a young guy) was very attentive and a lovely character and made the whole experience enjoyable. <br/><br/>The food was divine - I had a veal pasta (special of the day) and my partner had a seafood pasta. Everything was extremely fresh, melt in your mouth, perfect combination of flavours. Partner said it was the best pasta he'd had! Very liberal on the seafood too. Meal size was perfect - plenty, but not too much. <br/>We also shared a creme brûlée dessert, which was also to die for. <br/><br/>We both had an Italian moscato which was delicious. The waiter also treated me (my partner was driving so couldn't) to an iced Riesling dessert wine on the house to finish, which was also delicious. <br/><br/>My partner & I don't go out very often, so to have such wonderful night with fantastic food and warm friendly staff was simply brilliant. <br/><br/>Will definitely be back.
Laura Chen
Was there last night for business dinner. Food was divine. I had one of the best Bruschetta I've ever tasted and the Scotch was cooked to perfection.
TT
This restaurant has slightly different menu to others that I've been. It's nice to have a restaurant like this in the South Eastern area to go when we have Italian craving.
Teddy
What a treat. Attended for a business dinner and was transported away to a lovely place where the maître De actually takes notice, recommends the wine and the dishes. I had the best bruschetta I've ever eaten, calamari for entree, and the smoked duck breast for main. This was washed down with Frogmore Creek 2007 Pinot Noit and a shared tiramisu. What a great meal. It didn't get 5 points simply because of its location. Very bland from the outside and next to a very busy road, but there's parking and great facilities. The six of us spent about $590 so it was just under $100 each. A nice place to spoil yourself.

Had a romantic night out with my wife to celebrate our anniversary, I chose this place as we see it often while driving to Glen Waverley. The outside when walking to the entrance isn't that inviting but the inside is nice.<br/><br/>They have an extensive wine list and our waiter did recommend a nice white wine when given our preference. We started with an antipasto to share as an entree and it was huge, loaded with everything from salami, chorizo, olives, goats cheese, sun-dried tomatoes.<br/><br/>Next came our mains, I had the duck and my wife had the salmon. Both were nice, not mind blowing but good. I really like the ambience of the place, it allowed us to talk. It's not a kid restaurant, so I advise not to take them.<br/><br/>Overall I enjoyed dinner and will be back again sometime.
ToniMC
Such a sad and awful experience. Told no Communion cake allowed, only one bottle per 2 for BYO - so many rules - do they really want customers. <br/><br/>We were thinking of having a small function so trialled dinner. Food was really odd, service OK but certainly lacked any warmth. We had Calamari which did not seem the freshest but OK. Barramundi cooked to perfection but the whole dish was very strange. Marinara OK, Gnocchi oddly spicey. Wine was faulty but replaced with out question.<br/><br/>We were not very well later that night. I sent a direct message asking they alert their chef that we were concerned about the freshness of the seafood - just a polite heads up. No response at all which is the absolute height of rudeness and lack of professionalism. <br/><br/>Would not recommend it at all until they changed their menu, ambience, attitude and 'rules'!

Fedeles is like a family dining room circa 1995. Civilized tables, upholstered chairs, cushy carpet and muted tones make for a comfortable atmosphere. Our group ordered a combo of pastas and fish dishes all cooked to perfection. Nothing to complain about. But, nothing was remarkable either. The wait staff were polite, knowledgeable and our table was cleared efficiently and dessert offered in the same manner. But, nothing was stand-out. As a diner of by-gone days, I remember the mature staff of male waiters in their waist coats who commanded the floor. They *made* the atmosphere. And I, for one, I miss them.
Natalie Artis
The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere and ambiance in the restaurant was very relaxed and happy. I have dietary requirements as a vegan, and they were able to make a delicious meal specifically to meet my diet, which was awesome. I also loved the look of this restaurant, the glassware was really sleek and I love the use of fabric napkins. The decor is very sophisticated, the food is delicious, and the service is wonderful and catered to my personal needs. I recommend this restaurant and I will be returning :)<br/>Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Eliott Wong
My entree Ravioli looked very dry when it arrived, so dry the pasta actually cracked. One of us ordered Risotto as main and he could not finish it due to a strange combination of flavour in the dish. All the other dishes were also weird if they aren't blend. I am not sure if I will ever return.

Fedele's had a great fine dining (and very romantic!) atmosphere and the waiter looking after us was very attentive and friendly<br/><br/>I was very satisfied with the "manzo ragu pappardelle" I ordered as the meat was soft and tender along with the chickpeas and sweet potato. The meal was very hearty and great for a cold winter's night
Eddie French
We've enjoyed dining here for many years. The service was always super friendly and the food, though pricey, enjoyable. Yesterday we arrived without a reservation for lunch (as we usually do) and the mood towards us was decidedly icy. <br/><br/>I see from recent reviews that we are not alone in this experience.<br/><br/>The waiter was the most snobby I have come across in many years of eating out at restaurants far classier than Fedele's. We were made to feel like second class citizens:<br/><br/>1. only being given the cheapy Lunch Menu (and not the other more expensive comprehensive one)<br/>2. not being offered any bread, drinks or starters (and when I ordered some wine, I was told it was not complimentary!!)<br/>3. The food was not much chop; overcooked, soggy, too saucy chicken penne with not much chicken and a pork salad with pork desiccated beyond description<br/> I really felt as if we were in the early 20th rather than the 21st century and that the waiter believed we were moving above our station by daring to set foot in the establishment.<br/><br/>We won't be going back and perhaps that's their cunning plan. The clientele was mainly young workers from nearby offices rather than the grey brigade to which we belong to. And with the drop in the quality of the dishes, and perhaps the nearby employers paying for their team's lunches that is a good thing for Fedele's.

Fabulous evening celebrating my husband's 40th birthday with close friends. Attentive staff, good wine list and a kitchen that delivered steak the way it was requested (rare). The children at the table were well catered for, and entertained by free activity packs.

This is a Hidden Little Gem!!!!<br/>On the weekend we celebrated my daughter`s engagement party in the function room and it was perfect.<br/>Karl and his staff are very courteous, and in particular David who was our contact listened to all of needs and explained everything that was going to happen.<br/>We were 95 people who enjoyed large serves of fresh quality food from T Bone steak perfectly cooked to home made tiramisu which is  a must!!<br/>The room was set up and decorated so elegantly and the atmosphere was of warmth and celebration and plenty of space between the tables so everyone could mix.  Definetly a restaurant where you can have a wonderful event to remember for a very long time. (everyone enjoyed themselves from the seniors to the teenagers)<br/>The only negative is the time went so quickly!!!!

We had amazing service for our family function at Fedeles. The atmosphere was great, the waiters were enthusiastic and very accommodating. The food was absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend for your next function.

Fedeles has changed - for the worse.  Went there last Friday with a group of friends.  The restaurant is BYO and licensed.  The new owner has dispensed with the warm old fashioned white linen service that was so charming and employed uni students that do not have the same experience.  Even worse, he has introduced a wine limit of 1/2 a bottle per person.  There were six of us - 3 men and 3 ladies.  We were only allowed to open three bottles of wine.  A bit difficult if you want red and your partner wants white.  We also wanted to have a bottle of champagne to celebrate but would have exceeded our limit.<br/>The food was poor too.  My duck was very chewy - worst duck I've tasted.<br/>ALL the meals were cold.  Didn't stay for dessert.  Unpleasant evening.<br/>The Owner/Manager was rude and seems to have no idea about creating the atmosphere diners are looking for or customer service generally.<br/>Won't be going back.
Chiefpoppingfish
Food was okay. Extremely rude service, pretentious waiters. They even had the nerve to demand a tip. Avoid at all costs.

Disappointed lunch. Today we went for lunch to celebrate our sons birthday, after having a really good meal last year. My T-bone steak with roast potatoes and mushrooms with red wine was ok, but there wasn't a lot on the plate, very small and a 10mm thin T-bone steak., with 4 mushrooms and 6 half potatoes. Our daughter had the seafood spaghetti, that arrived cold and there wasn't much seafood in it. Our son enjoyed his chicken dish and my wife thought her potato gnocchi was pleasant.<br/><br/>After travelling from Bendigo for lunch, we will not be back again next year. <br/>Staff were very pleasant.
Alan
Service Great - Food Average. Been a customer of Fedeles for 10 years. Visit for special occasions - it's off the list now. <br/><br/>Last visit very disappointed with the meal.<br/>Ordered $22 Calamari which was meant to be finished / topped with chorizo sausage - came with a thin layer of processed meat. Main of Lamb $39 was over cooked and quite dry.<br/><br/>Service was excellent but food definitely did not match. Agree with other reviewer - processing of Credit Cards - awkward and indiscreet.

So I had kind of a crummy meal out last weekend, which was all the worse because we were celebrating a friend's birthday.  I don't usually write about restaurants that I don't like (or complain about their service), but this one really takes the the (figurative) cake. I have never encountered such disdainful service, not in  fast-food joints (rarely frequented for excellent service) or  even   Asian restaurants reputed for bad service on Urbanspoon.  Especially not from restaurants that promise a fine-dining experience, and we left Fedele's with a most unpleasant taste in our mouth.
I Eat Therefore I Am
Fedele's must be one of the strangely located restaurants. It just sits off the main Springvale Road by itself, nestled amongst residential houses. I'm always amazed that they have customers. I must have driven past the restaurant a few hundred times, but

Beautiful food-not great table manners. Thoroughly enjoyed the food at our first time dining at Fedeles. Absolutely delicious and would highly recommend. Staff were attentive and friendly, but as I would expect in such an establishment. All up a really lovely evening until it came time to settle our account which was done at the table with a staff member hovering over us. After we'd keyed in the amount from our credit card, he then asked us if we'd like to leave a tip for our waiter. Now the thing I enjoy most about living in Australia is the fact that tipping is not obligatory, but we certainly do so on occasions when we feel that service has gone above and beyond the norm expected. As I said our waiter provided attentive and friendly service, but nothing more than was necessary. We found it quite rude to be put on the spot and asked if we wanted to leave a tip-as if we are going to say no and cause embarassment. If we'd wanted to do so we would have when we'd keyed in the amount. What was an absolutely lovely evening up until that point, left us with a sour taste in our mouths and unfortunately will stop us from returning or from recommending to our friends. We have never experienced that situation before, in over 30 years of dining. What a shame, because the food is absolutely worth the visit.

My favourite secret place. So ...it's out of the mainstream venue addresses...but seriously good food...good wine...and fabulous service...what more could you ask for???

Food has been better. My wife and I ate here last weekend; August 2014. Fedele's has been a rare gem for many years in this pocket of Melbourne. A change of ownership in the past year or so has seen a changed menu and wine list. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it has moved from being a traditional provincial Italian style of cooking to a more fashionable inner urban bistro style of food. It is now no different to what you could get in dozens of restaurants across Melbourne. The menu has also been trimmed down considerably, so the choices are more limited. What used to be a good fifteen minute read, deliberating while your taste buds were excited, now takes a cursory read to identify the two or three things that interest you. My wife chose the fried calamari entree and the lamb rack main. The calamari was crumbed rings much like you'd get in any pub bistro. Clearly bought in pre-prepared rather than prepared in the kitchen. The lamb rack was 4 points, but she said it was unremarkable. It appeared to be steam oven cooked rather that roasted and perhaps hadn't been finished off in the oven for long enough. My entree of oysters, Kilpatrick style, were large, fresh and tasty. My pork rib eye was a nice cut however was served on a black barley sauce and assorted other tastes. Unfortunately, the sauce was so over salted I couldn't finish it, and this is from someone who doesn't mind a bit of salt in cooking, but this was overpowering. My wife chose a chocolate dessert which she said was nice. I passed on dessert as I was still reeling from the salt overload. The wine list is limited, particularly compared to the list from a few years ago, but ok. The service was good; friendly and efficient. I'd eat here again, but not with the previous anticipation.

Good food but WONT split the bill........ A lovely night out with 5 adorable girlfriends, really lovely meal, ended with a bitter taste as we tried to pay on 4 credit cards..... to be told they wont charge less than $100 to a card.....this policy I cannot find on their website site, was not mentioned upon booking or on arrival, nor did I see it in the menu.... BEWARE.
CL
Horrendous experience- embarrassing stand off over credit card payments. Can you believe they have a $100 credit card lminimum when bill splitting ? Of course we weren't told this before we tried to pay. Instead of 4x$60 credit card payments and $120 cash the waiter allowed only 3x$100 credit card and 1x$60 and changed the cash into $20 notes so we could all get change. Absolute stubborn inflexibility for more work and no financial gain.

Poor Customer Service. I have been going to this restaurant for 10 years. It has changed hands in the past 12 months. I went with a group of 6 girls. The food was great but when it came time to pay the bill we divided the bill by 6 and each wanted to pay on credit card. We were told that we couldn't do it,. The minimum amount for a split bill is $100 per head. No flexibility. Some of us didn't bring cash. I phoned to discuss the next day with the owner and was told that if you don't like the policy.. don't come.. Terrible service

Can't go wrong at this restaurant. Welcoming hosts, warm atmosphere, good service, spectacular, clean, winter warming food. Corkage cost us $10. There was two of us and two bottles of wine. Loads of people in restaurant for 7 pm, full car park. Indicates how good it is even on a Wed night. Cater for groups well and generously. We will be back again for summer menu and group booking in December. Thanks Nick and Carl.

Ate here with my partner recently and it was amazing... I had the gnocchi and it was beautiful, my partners meal was also cooked to perfection... The service was amazing. The only fault I could find was that as the waiter was popping the cork on a bottle of champagne the cork went flying and scared everyone in the place. But he made a beautiful recovery and made everyone laugh about it. Keep up the good work and we will be back

All time favourite in melbourne!. We love everything about Fedeles, the staff are just lovely, and the food is amazing. We keep coming back to try all the dishes because everything looks and tastes so great, I have have the veal, lamb, and beef at different times and they were all cooked to perfection with tasty accompaniments. It's a spacious restaurant with a great atmosphere, perfect for any occasion. <br/>Thanks Fedeles will be back soon Kevin B.

Not Cheap. Here you pay for everything. How about $20 corkage & $22 entrees. $40 main course + extra for vegies!! Thats right; good if they can get these prices in the outer burbs, but I will be choosing somewhere with equivalent quality food and significanlly less expensive next time.<br/>On the up side, the restaurant is consistent, but really that should be a given, how can you ruin a piece of salmon or veal shank?

Good taste but over priced. We went there for dinner, the service was excellent. The food tasted good. But the price is over- priced considering the environment, size of food.

Lovely meal, staff a little complacent....... Two of us enjoyed a really pleasant dinner here, my first visit, partner a regular corporate visitor. The ambience is elegant, sparkling table settings, attractive decor, lighting and comfortable furniture, although the heating was turned up excessively high when we arrived. <br/>The menu is excellent, offering a good range, without being ridiculously extensive, making choices difficult. Because we were dining prior to another engagement, chose only a main course, with sides - fillet steak and dory fillets, with a (huge!) bowl of potatoes to share. The fish was superb, beautifully cooked, lovely flavour and a generous amount of sauce. My partner's steak was a large serve, cooked to his liking and both meals nicely presented. <br/>The wine list is good selection, with BYO option and reasonable corkage. We chose some red wine by the glass, also chilled water arrived promptly at the table. I think that the charge for bread is excessive ($9.40 for a cob loaf), too large a loaf for 2 people looking at one delivered to a neighbouring table.<br/>One of our waiters was a little cocky, slightly rehearsed and bordering on rather annoying (condescending tone, telling me to 'be patient' when I began to ask a question of the menu) and clearly the type of waiter who if encouraged, could be very irritating, but the young lady was gracious, polite, elegant and avoided us feeling too irritated.<br/>I would return to this restaurant again in less of a rush to leave next time, as there is plenty to tempt on the menu. Good parking on site makes a pleasant change and despite higher end prices, the meals were really well done - recommended.

Polite waiter but unsure of meal. Had a very polite and friendly waiter, however, the fish special I had was a bit bland. The scallops were also not what I expected, they were not lightly cooked and golden as I thought. Though the Atmosphere was nice and not loud, which was good.

Just brilliant. I had dinner here for the first time in twenty years. This time just my wife and l. We had lamb rack, veal shank and the molten choc cake. All the meals were brilliant. Yes it's a little $$ but they are good sizes and tasted fantastic. <br/>The service was prompt and always provided the right amount of attention. Will go back much sooner than twenty years. Thanks. <br/>Luke & Jen.

Special Evening. My personal special occasion was enhanced by the beautiful and kind service of the staff. Thank you for making this a memorable night for my family. Great food, beautiful wine, superb service and wonderful company, what more could you ask for?

Dinner Review. My overall impression of this restaurant is very positive, if price is slightly lower, I would be happy to visit it more often. I took my family out in late Oct last year, we are nine people. I don't remember anything negative about the dishes, wine or service. To me that it is a decent restaurant, I would score it in 85-90 range in the Glen Waverley/Mt Waverley area European restaurant category/.

Great restaurant! staff are very friendly, lovely atmosphere and delicious food. A must for any special occasion!

Flowering establishment. I had the lamb for lunch one afternoon and it was to die for. Melted in my mouth. The service was lovely & the price was good . Im definitely taking me friends there next..

Nice valentines day. We choose to have valentines dinner at fedeles. it was really special, although really busy the food was perfect, we had oysters, quail, duck and salmon and it was delicious. service was also good.

Great lunch. Despite the recent reviews that suggest not to go, I went to what has been an old favourite of mine. I found the new menu (because of new ownership) interesting.<br/>My wife chose oysters Kilpatrick and the fish of the day (barramundi). I chose oysters natural and the Spiced Quail Risotto. We also shared a loaf of beautiful crusty bread that was served with three condiments, very very good!<br/>Our oysters were nice and plump, the natural were served with a small dish of balsamic vinegar and red onion, my wife said the Kilpatrick were excellent.<br/>The Barramundi was delicious, served with a light butter sauce my wife said it was one of the best fish dishes she had had. My risotto was equally excellent, the quail was beautifully cooked and the rice had tomato spinach and egg plant through it. Beautiful.<br/>We found the wait staff helpful, polite and attentive.<br/>We will definitely be returning soon to Fedele's
Critic556
Horrible service. The waiter was horribly rude and does not have any manners. The waiter had the wrong attitude and safe to say I will not be returning and I recommend you against going there unless you don't mind bad mannered waiters

We'll be back!. My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at Fedeles on Saturday. The ambience is intimate, seating arrangements are spacious, and service was warmly provided by Mary who knows her stuff. We had the bruschetta to start which was delicious, followed by the rib eye of pork and the eye fillet of beef which were cooked to perfection! The night ended on a high note with the wicked chocolate treats to share, amazing! We will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere. We thought that the atmosphere at this restaurant was really nice, unexpected for a restaurant in its location.<br/><br/>We couldn't fault the food, well presented, delicious flavours. The staff seemed to know the menu well, they even recommended a really good wine to match the dish.<br/><br/>Will be back from our wedding anniversary soon.
Melinda
Can not fault it. 5 stars. Came to Fedeles a few years ago and remember it being nice. When we came this time we were wowed by the welcoming staff, ambience and amazing food. We will be back very soon.

F for Failure. Forget the poor service.<br/>Apart from the fact that Nick is a rude imbecile, who chose those ridiculous glowing eggs that look like something from the movie set of Cocoon.<br/>I mean, are little glowing martians going to pop out and steal my meal.<br/>Fedeles is on its way out.<br/>Sooooo uncool!
Nick
Heard nothing but good things about this place.<br/>I don't know if it was just the chef that was on that night or what but the food was very average indeed. I had the duck main. It was very dry. The crushed kiflers were more like bubble and squeak made from leftovers, the goats cheese soufflé was not tasty and the fennel seed and preserved lemon sauce was just a stock standard jus. It was average food at premium prices. I must admit my partners chicken main was tasty but the presentation was clumsy and unappealling. Fedeles really need to lift their game food wise.
Nicole
Fedeles!!. First time back here in a little while, but after receiving a message hat it had changed hands we were keen to see if it was up to scratch. Not disappointed in the slightest, food as good as ever and it was nice to see some smiling staff!!
Chanel19_84
Don't believe the fake positive reviews. Don't believe the most recent positive reviews.<br/><br/>I have been smiling as I read them - they are so obviously planted by the owners. They should focus on improving their customer service and getting the food back to what it was under the original owners instead of trying to lure people into their restaurant with fake reviews. <br/><br/>They have not even had the decency to reply to an email I sent them a week ago.<br/><br/>My previous rave review has now been updated with a 1 star terrible rating since the new ownership. <br/><br/>There must be a reason why all but one of the long term staff left with the commencement of the new ownership ! <br/><br/>The new owners have been smart to keep the same name, menus etc but the most obvious difference immediately noticeable was the unpolished, immature waiters who seemed to forget us for most of the night only for us to have the supervisor insult us whilst he took the dessert orders.<br/><br/>The food has definitely gone downhill, and although it was ok, they need to stick to the classic Italian food we all like and lay off spices such as cumin, paprika etc !<br/><br/>Tonight was the first time we have not tipped in as long as I can remember. The minute we had the 'supervisor' at our table the $50 tip went firmly back in the wallet. <br/><br/>We have dined at Fedeles for many years with family, clients and held staff functions here for up to 40 people in the past but never again. <br/><br/>It has been a conveniently located, east suburban restaurant with great food and service for us over the past 12 years but the new owners have made a huge error in employing young, nervous waiters who were not versed in the menu and specials - and employing a rude, arrogant supervisor who couldn't be friendly if his life depended on it.<br/><br/>In spite of having a sorbet/icecream selection on the dessert menu, Nick refused one of our diners plain vanilla ice cream when he asked for it.<br/><br/>We all started laughing at first because we thought he was kidding around but his words were "we will do plain ice cream for a kid, but we won't do it for you. No, we won't do that".<br/><br/>OMG ! He was so rude and arrogant.<br/><br/>The service had been mediocre and infrequent up to that point but this was just outrageous.<br/><br/>We have dined at most of Melbourne's 5 star restaurants - not to mention throughout Australia and overseas - and have never experienced anything like it.<br/><br/>These guys just don't get it !<br/><br/>We definitely won't be back and I have sent the owner a detailed letter about this incident wishing him all the very best so he knows what this smart Alec supervisor is doing to his client base.<br/><br/>I have had no response and have noticed reviews that look staged to me so I don't think ethical, best practice customer service is on the menu here.

Not as good as it used to be.... Some time back I had a very enjoyable meal at Fedele's Ristorante.<br/>Ordered the Duck main course and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.<br/>Today, the experience was dismal.<br/>The entree, pork belly, accompanied by half cooked carrot cubes was somewhat experimental one would suggest by the 'chef'. The pork was chewey, the sauce tasted like it came form a supermarket bottle.<br/>Then, the great disappointment was the Duck...<br/>Tough, loaded on top of mountain of poorly thought out seasoned whatevers, was ineatable. <br/>We would not recommend you waste your visit here.

Not impressed!. Went here for dinner Saturday night, after hearing great things from my cousin. Some pro's include: incredible service, our waiter was extremely lovely. Good garlic bread.<br/>Con's: mains were very dissapointing. I ordered the steak, asked for it to be cooked Medium. It was almost raw, bleeding, and I felt sick eating it. Seriously, how hard is it to cook a steak right?! It pisses me off so much! I would've sent it back, but I did not want to wait 40 mins for another steak. My partner ordered the duck- he was not happy. The quality of the meat was very poor- too chewy and he said it tasted like turkey. For $40 a main, we both really regretted having spent our money here. Will not be returning!

A let down.. Went here fo dinner recently - having heard that there were new owners. Fedeles has been a regular for us for years. We had to ask for a wine list, menus, water, bread and the specials. Clearly the staff were trying to do a good job - but they need to be trained in SERVICE. The food was OK - but not great. And the real disappointment is that the signature dish - Tortellini Fedele has been changed a lot and now has Napoli sauce and chorizo ! - a strange thing to do to a very popular dish. We will go back - hopefully the management will train the staff and things will have improved.

Expensive and poor!. Me and my husband decided to try this place, seriously shouldn't have. I ordered the PARPADELLE RAGOUT PROVENCAL. The presentation was very poor, no flavour, and tasted as if it had been made for several days. I couldn't eat it. My husband had the TORTELLINI DI FEDELE, looked and tasted greasy and was just a veal schnitzel served with some chickpeas. I will not be going back and will not recommend this place.

#awesomeoverall. Had the Salmon Steak and it was divine. The staff were really experienced and friendly. There's a wide range of Wine's to pick from and the Tiramisu is one of the best I've ever had.<br/>Overall 5 star experience!

Went to Fedele's for dinner tonight. The staff were great, really attentive and offered suggestions as to what was good. I'm calling out the banana creme brûlée as amazing. We will definitely go again.

Amazing service and even better food. Highly recommend the Spaghetti Pangrattato.

Tasty Gnocchi. Had delicious Gnocchi for lunch today... <br/><br/>Definitely recommend trying them when you are next there !!!
Felicity.harding
Authentic Italian. Working in the area, I've been to Fedele's a few times for work lunches and you were always guaranteed authentic Italian with nice extras like free wifi (great for working lunches) and no corkage (great for staff celebrations). New owners have reinvigorated the place, added some nice touches and brought the buzz back. The gnocchi is amazing as always.
Steve
Rex. Long time diner here and not the kind of person that feels any need to go online if I get what I pay for. Having said that, thank goodness the SE suburbs has somewhere with decent food and service!!!

My family and I have frequented this establishment for many years. The food equals, if not surpasses, most restaurants in Melbourne in terms of taste and value for money. The service can not be faulted, particularly from Mr Sam Salvatore. He never fails to entertain.

I have been dinning at fedeles for some time now and have loved every experince i have had. The specials are always intresting the lamb is to die for and the amore never lets me down. I have also noticed that the management may have changed and noticed that the restraunt has had a tiny face lift with new glasses new cutlery and even new and intresting specials. I had the chocolate choc chip soufle with salted caramel ice crem with a rich chocolate tart and wow... Simply wow love it!!!

One of the worst. Went for a big birthday for my Dad and had one of the worst meals of my life. Chose chicken salad because I thought they couldn't do too much wrong with that. Chicken "tenderloins" were dry and inedible. Whole salad was tasteless with only what seemed like a bit of balsamic vinegar splashed over it. My sister had calamari which was rubbery and tasteless with a bit of balsamic vinegar over it and my niece had tortellini which was gluggy and dry at the same time. Uuuuurrrrrgggghhhhhh! Would never recommend anyone go there.
Elmocookie
When we went it was really packed. Good food, tortellini was really nice! Service was good too :)

My family has been going to Fedele's for years but sadly tonight will be our last visit. It was quite obvious that the chef had changed as the meals have significantly dropped in presentation and taste. Our 3 mains left us all feeling bloated and wondering why we bothered to pay $55/head to feel sick! Fedele's used to be a suburban gem but it's definitely lost it's sparkle. In future I will be driving straight past to go up the road to Sette Bello.
Ian
Went for a Christmas lunch today. Food taking very long time. Asked waiter if it is coming soon and response was that everyone ordered an entre and was very dismissive and arrogant. Food is usually good, even though high prices. I just hate arrogant service people.
Z For GoodFood
Old-fashioned Ristorante Italiano. Went there couple of weeks ago, had an lovely evening. The resturant is old fashioned Italiano and i think for everyone who's been there, sure you can tell (simply by the average age of the waiters), some of them speak with an italian accent too!!:)<br/><br/>The serve is huge, absolutely huge in my opinion and I would recommend this place for groups dinnings, even tho the location is a bit strange too me, but plenty of parking available ensured!
Greg
Horrible service. Took booking - no table set for booking squashed onto small table. 3 main meals came out cold - literally straight out of refrigerator. Waiters off hand about this, gruff and unhelpful. Had been going here for special occasions for 14 years. Never again. Have told everyone i know in this area and have heard similar complaints. Do yourself a favour and go to Sette Bello where the service and food is light years ahead of this tired and unhelpful business
Tom Smrcek
Food was amazing, waiting staff were all friendly and attentive even though the restaurant was full! Meals are absolutely huge, always get an entree size instead of main unless your some sort of man mountain that eats like a horse!
