Review Monash Curry N Tandoor - Glen Waverley

Andrew Pierson
Friendly service and excellent food from a broad menu. All the expected dishes and more. Delicious! Good value - our go-to curry place. COVID-safe - enjoy eating out again.

Nice place to have Indian food in Glen Waverley. Decently priced delicious food. The seekh kebab was brilliant! Gobi manchurian was crispy and had a nice spicy taste to it. The paneer butter masala was balanced and creamy.

Had a nice experience. Food was tasty, Service was quick and very nice. The lady who served us gave a second serve of papad on the house when my children asked for more. Recommended.

We've been here lots of times, but not regularly. A lot of Indian restaurants have gone downhill in our opinion, but Monash Curry is still great. Lovely butter chicken without being too sweet, the lamb vindaloo packs a nice heat and the meat is tender and not overcooked. Meal deals are great value. Lost a star only because I had to ask for the mango lassi, which wasn't given to me, but otherwise a great hidden gem. Definitely go.
Dan Nichols
Average food at best. The worst service experience we have had in years. And don't even think of eating in as the place is not clean or appealing in any way! Needless to say I would not recommend.

I ordered this Hydrabadi Chicken Biryani from UberEats. It was completely disgraceful. They just gave plain Basmati rice with some boiled chicken pieces. Any biryani should have spices regardless of the spice level. But this was not the case here. No spices at all. Never order from here. The portion was too less looking at 15$ price.

Best Indian place in the area. We love the Biriyani here. They cater for my Daughter's birthday. food was amazing and we order for 30 people and got plenty.
Deepmala Soni
Horrible food… chilli chicken was too chewy to be eaten. Literally had to throw and Garlic naan had no garlic.
Anne McMillan
Excellent food and service & good value. We eat here regularly. Easy to park & BYO wine. Our favourite Indian restaurant. Highly recommend.
Tom Dutkowski
One of the best curry joints around. Ask for medium spicy!

Food was good but we had to wait almost an hour to get main meal after starters I would rather do the take away next time I am around the area

Butter chicken & garlic naan, Uber Eats’d 🛵🛵

The butter chicken was decent, sweet in a good way especially with medium heat. I loved the tandoori chicken pieces as they were delicious, tender and flavourful. They filled the box to the brim and it was definitely plenty for 2-3 servings.

The garlic naan was nice and soft, but the garlic flavour could’ve been stronger as it was just a hint.

The order came quickly and well-packaged. Overall a good local spot to satisfy Indian food cravings.

Really delicious food. We had takeaway last week as we were staying nearby but enjoyed it so much we went back even though it is now a 20 minute drive. Beef masala and Chicken saag - yum! And the paladins were best I’ve tasted.

Ordered through menulog delivery! Since I work at a place with menulog I was really skeptical especially since menulog usually takes forever.

I was however blown away....

Restaurant was incredible with my special requests. Menulog said 1 hour but they were here in 30 minutes. Food was steaming hot and packed beautifully and very thoughtfully with glad wrap over the boxes so the curry would not leak.

Food was amazing! Lamb curry was delicious and tender. Butter chicken was great (a little on the sweet side for me but incredibly delicious). The raita was much needed and added a refreshing taste to the curry along with the saffron rice.

So so so happy with this place! Will definitely be ordering from here again or going to check it out in person!

Food- Delicious, spicy and fresh. Delivery fast. What a pleasant surprise! Finally a tasty Indian restaurant.
The Lamb madras was tender, nice and spicy and perfectly seasoned. Okra masala was super tasty and went perfectly with the lamb. Only thing that could have been improved was the Naan, slightly undercooked and a little oily. But aside from that a really delicious, reasonably priced meal, will definitely order again
Relaxed family dining . The spicy fish fry is a great delicious entree. We had the chilli chicken and Beef madras for mains . Both full of flavour . Great food and price . It’s a local eatery not a high end dining establishment. It ticks all the boxes for a yummy casual night out .

Quiet Indian restaurant in Glen we ventured for quick bite. Average ambience and service, food was average too. Tried veg eggplant potatoes curry with roti.
Mini Mooi
Good service and friendly staff. We had chicken vindaloo and goat chilli fry and samosa. Samosa was bit cold but chicken vindaloo was ok also goat chilli fry was good but bit oily.

Tried this restaurant on a day when I was craving for Indian food.
Goat biryani had a wierd smell - of that a leaf.
Garlic nan bread was good.
Butter chicken again wasn't authentic.
Search for some authentic indian food continues.
Decent Feed
Chicken Tikka Masala was very enjoyable - generous amount of chicken and flavours went together really well. I’m also not that great at holding down spicy food, so this dish was perfect for me.
Grilled mushrooms dish was too burnt, pretty much inedible as most the mushrooms were completely black.
Considering it was a quiet Tuesday night, service was really slow. Had to wait for ages before each dish came out.
Bree Rogers
Overall, fantastic experience! There was a long wait for the food, but it was definitely worth it. Only wish they put some music on though, as we were the only people there and it was a little awkward. But fantastic food, would return!
Emily
Small local Indian that doesn't compromise on quality or menu range. Anyone could find something to eat with the staff happy to recommend. Check out the lunch specials for even better value but the dinner menu won't put you out too much either. Great to find this place when indian food is becoming more and more expensive.
Jillian
I ordered home delivery from this restaurant and is very pleased with everything. The restaurant has an extensive menu, including a good list of vegetarian dishes. The price is reasonable. I ordered 5-6 dishes and they manage to deliver within the expected time frame. Even the delivery man was very polite! Most of all, the dishes are tasty! Will definitely order again.
Kimberley Peters
For a place with food splatters on the walls they sure make some mean Mango Chicken.

Also worth ordering the Garlic Naan and Vegetable Samosas.
Fedora
Good food, we tried a chicken and a fish dish which were both authentic and had plenty of flavour and spice. The vege pakoras were delicious and service was great

I must say that their Lamb Korma and Keena Naan are awesome. I can't eat things too spicy so the waitress recommended me to order this dish. I can rate their review higher but the customer service wasn't good. It was not because they were rude but the waitress quite slowly responded to my order. But in the end the food was great so I was happy about it.
Gabriela
We tried the Madras and the chilli chicken. The chicken madras wasn't the best that we have tried, but it was very interesting to try that chilli chicken, interesting indo-chinese dish!

We couldn't believe our luck to find a local Indian takeaway that delivers, and hoped for the best. We feasted like kings on the most delicious Indian food we've ever had. All the different meats were tender and tasty, the spices used were amazing, the bread, the condiments, everything was delicious. We had Tandoori cutlets and mushrooms, goat biriani, three curries including an eggplant and potato one. Every single dish was wonderful. Would definitely order from them again, and will probably go and eat in the restaurant as well. Highly recommended. Also the service and delivery were hassle free.

I was having a bad day I was craving for some indian food.So me and my girlfriend decided to give Monash curry n tandoor a try. I wasn't disappointed at all, their food was amazing. It reminded me how much i have missed home. We had Garlic naan and Vegetarian Thali rice. there customer service was also really good specially my girlfriend who is not a huge fan of indian food loved her thali rice I would surely visit here regularly because it's reminds me so much of home.

We have ordered delivery through Menulog from this place many times and the food has always been exceptional. We finally dropped by to dine in the other day and finally saw what their restaurant looked like. In addition to their great food the service is also great. It's a small but clean restaurant and they also serve wine and beer.

Some of the highlight dishes include the Butter Chicken, Paleek Panir, Lamb Biryani, and their goat curries. The flavours of their curries are well balanced. Their garlic naan is crispy and flavoured. And their mango lassi was spot on, not too sweet or heavy. Davin ordered two of these because it was so good!

Overall, a place we will continue to order from and frequent when we're craving Indian. We are always highly satisfied after each meal!

- H
Guru
Food is ok.. kinda decent blend of spices..good cook I must say..(except the fish pakoras) may be the owner wants to save on the cost of the fish :( sad to see two waitresses running around to manage customers. Feel sorry for them. Fish pakora is only batter fried.. no fish lol!!! One more point...Should engage another person at the reception who can keep an eye on any customers who need service. If you see more than 2 tables occupied, entering this place for good service is too risky thanks to the management of the owner... sick!! good luck fellas!!

Average food, took too long to come out, poor service. Won't be coming back......... Average food, took too long to come out, poor service. Won't be coming back.........

Don't expect any surprises it a fairly standard north Indian menu.
However all dishes were well prepared and very tasty, though not very spicy. There are lots of Indians coming in for take out, so it must be good.
T.v.L
We decide for take away tonight. The food is delicious specially the vegetarian meals. We had samosa, pakora, gobi manchurian and butter chicken.
Sia
Went there for dinner. The place, although isolated has quite a great variety of food. The tandoori chicken was well marinated and was really tender. Equally the Rogan josh was well cooked, would definitely recommend this place if you love the spicy food. Cons: the waiter brought the mains before the entrée. Overall, the food is very fulfilling and has decent prices.
Miss Munchalot
A regular here, the staff is extremely friendly and always greet with a smile. Absolutely love the butter chicken curry! Just thinking about it makes me crave it. Highly recommend trying if in the area.
Shravan Suresh
Great food. Loved the Channa masala and naan. Could have a better non veg menu. Decent prices and good staff. Would recommend for those authentic Indian food lovers.
Luke Purcell
The food was sensational. The best curry we have had in some time. Kids loved the mango lassi and I loved the spicy chicken. If your in Glen Waverley area it's well worth trying.

It's a small place so maybe book ahead. The staff were wonderful and very patient.
Rob Sturgeon
Best curry in Monash. Reasonable prices. Friendly service. We like the sizzling tandoori platter, butter chicken, lamb rogon josh. Great lunch specials also.

*****
October 2016 update

Had previously been here a few times and scored this place a 4,but after this recent performance had to drop it down to a 3. The table next to us was given preferential treatment throughout the night, despite ordering butter chicken and naan several minutes before them, those same dishes were delivered to the table next to us even though they ordered after us. Poor service, disappointing, not sure if we'll be returning.

Have eaten here a few times now,and this place is quickly becoming our go to Indian place. The garlic naan is delicious, seekh kebabs and tandoori lamb cutlets are lovely, and the eggplant and potato dish is one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Great takeaway place for lazy a night in. The prawn masala is absolutely delicious and I order it every time without fail. Roti sometimes can be a hit and miss however, you can't go Indian without roti. Servings and portion sizes are also good.
Sandeep
Our regular takeaway Indian place. Generous servings and taste pretty good. I'm a fan of the naan bread and the chicken tikka. The paneer is also very good.

A huge thank you to the staff at Monash Curry n Tandoor for another fantastic lunch!
We have ordered from them a number of times for work lunches and it’s always been 10/10. The service when ordering over the phone to the jovial delivery driver is very welcoming. As far as the food WOW amazing flavours! Truly authentic and makes you want to go back for more.

We discovered Monash Curry n Tandoor only a few months ago and have ordered about 4 times already and will continue to do so. Thank you!

Tried this place for takeaway as regular didn't do deliveries on the night. Now have a new favourite for Indian food...

Would I try Monash Curry n Tandoor again? Yes but probably take away again – I always miss the veggies I get with other cuisines. They have a few other items I’d like to try like their kashmiri naan or biriyani.
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
A hit and miss, but we'll be back. The lassi was too thin, and tandoori chicken dry. But the shahi butter panner and butter chicken was great. Pictures - We got take-away hence served it in our own dishes.
Foodie95
Best local Indian. After reading the raving reviews about this little Indian restaurant, we decided to order takeout and we were NOT disappointed. Ordering online was very easy. The food was delicious and we really loved the kashmiri naan and kofta. Plain naan was slightly rubbery but everything else was so tasty. This is our new Indian takeout!
Natalie Doyle
Amazing food great price we had the lamb curry clay pot lamb - was mouth watering and the coconut rice - amazing will be back again !!

Away from the main hub of restaurants in Glen Waverly, this unexpecting place offers great value for money. Although we felt it was more takeaway oriented, we dined in and still received good service
Ckrajalakshman
Great food and good customer service.. The food is very nice and great customer service. We use this restaurant regularly for take-aways ordering through menulog. Sometimes we also visit the restaurant for lunch or dinner on weekends.

Very nice restaurant.

Fantastic food, service.. We came from an hour away and it was worth the drive. Great food, attentive and polite service. Highly recommended.

We had a dinner on 30th of dec 2013 ,and it was horrible. The waiting time was too long and the price is too high.highly recommend to everyone not to go.It was a terrible experience.I'm very sure,if you go there once, you won't go again.

Amazing food and service. We were a group of 14 with a short notice booking. We were very warmly welcomed, with delicious food and amazing service. Mohammad is a brilliant chef and manager, but the whole team deserves a massive Bravo Zulu!

Excellent Ruby Murray. Can't get enough of this one! Great service and great food!
If you are in the Monash area and love curry this is one place you will eat at again and again.

Yum. Delicious food and lovely, attentive service.
Toilet was a bit of a hike outside in the cold but the great food and cosy restaurant made up for it. Would reccommend!!
KT
Great tasting food. The staff are friendly and though the restaurant is small, the atmosphere is good too.
Nick
Ok service, but average food: not bad, but not good either. The curries we had were bland, and we were not asked how hot we would like them (they weren't spicy at all).
Sakda Dharmadasa
Excellent food.. Parathas are soo yummy.. Value for money/
Peeran Billimoria
It's fresh, good and tasty food.. Very close to authentic Indian food. Brings back foody memories

Hidden Secret. Great Indian. New family favourite. Lovely staff, obviously family owned, cheap and very good food. The decor leaves a little to be desired but on every other aspect this is one of the BEST Indian restaurants I've been to. My thoughts on this place haven't changed after 10+ visits.
Dave
Nice food, and great home delivery option for those close by. My only small complaint is that the Butter Chicken tasted too sweet. Less sugar please!

Highly recommended to those who enjoy good value Indian cuisine

Yummy and reasonable food. Finally a reasonably priced Indian restaurant in the area with good, polite service and excellent food. Tandoori Platter very authentic, shame they don't do lunch on a Saturday or would definitely be there with friends. Keep up the good work.

Excellent food and service, always tasty and Naans are the best!
Kaconn2000
Great food. All the dishes are really good, and service is unpretentious...
The World’s My Oyster
Mango Chicken me happy.. We are regulars and come friday we get our regular take-away from this place. There is free delivery for over $30 so we usually just get it delivered. The goat curry which we've recently had is delicious and the meat is very very tender it falls of the bone practically. However the mango chicken is what has me coming back for more. The sauce is so yummy, sweet and fruity. They have dessicated coconut shaving ontop of the dish which I find a little weird, but not too bad. The chicken in the mango curry sauce is tandoori-ed I think? Anyway, get the mango chicken, you won't go wrong. But if you are getting it delivered we warned that the naan/roti will be a little soggy when it gets to your house. They were delicious however when we brought them fresh form the shop! Delicious local curry!

Yum!. Yummy Yum yum! Does this help in expressions for some of the nicest food I have had this side of Melb! No to forget I must mention the Indian pistachio flavoured ice-cream! Delicious!!
Fz
Naans are good. Butter chicken too sweet and salty had to down water after it. Convenient though
Gwynneth
Delicious. Butter chicken was a bit sweet but I thought it was delicious, garlic naan perfect, and saffron rice cooked just right. only took 15 minutes for food to be ready but I was the only one there, so not sure if it would take longer otherwise. Great service, very friendly, will definitely go back.
Coffeeaddict
Yummy. I go here a lot. food is always perfect. the naan is delicious, love the shahi paneer.
Lauren
Best Indian curries! So yum!!!
Kiki
DONT BUY FROM THEM!!!. Just dont bother with the food honestly. I asked for spicy indian style food and what do i get? Sweet downgraded food of which im not sure id put in the 'indian' category. The level of sugar is such that even nandos peri peri chips make it to the 'spicy' category 100 spots above their curries.

Indian food is a trademark sizzle, it puts tingles in your mouth and these guys are juts F*****g disgusting. I will NEVER order this overpriced bulls**t again... waste of time and money . Please do yourself a favour and don't order from here. Also who put the single dollar sign for price category? they are overpriced for the value they give . The portions are SMALL!!!
Rescueboxers
Great food!. Monash curry n tandoor has great food and very timely food delivery. We've never had a bad dish and keep coming back time and time again! We were ex Mirch Masala tragics- now Curry and Tandoor tragics!! Excellent vegetarian options and love the lamb rogan josh as well!!!
Uqui
Really yummy. It doesn't look like much of a restaurant and it's very causal but the food is good, the service pretty quick and the prices reasonable. What more could you want?
J
Monash curry. Having been to Monash Curry many times, they consistently serve me good to excellent curries. The garlic naans are awesome, price is also reasonable. I think the overall dinning experience is very good.
Cameron McCormack
I mean, hope it stays around longer than Curry Malinda, which was the shop here before. But coincidentally, the waiter here tells me that the chef used to work at Mirch Misala before opening Monash. No wonder the curries are delicious!

-----18 Jul, 2010-----

Well Monash Curry has been open now for just a month, and my friends and I have been here four times already. Of the three our four restaurants that have been at this location over the last 10 years (all Indian or Sei Lankan) Monash is my favorite for northern Indian curries. Nice mango lassis, pretty good garlic naans too -- not too crisp. Monash Curry is only about a minute's drive from my house, so here's hoping it sticks around longer than Mirch Masala did!
Steven Kearney
Bit slow, but food is excellent, if you want take away often takes close to an hour for the food to be ready, and often don't have certain menu items, but great food!!
