Ordered the sashimi bento box. Was so yum. Salmon was very fresh and sushi tasted great. Loved the seasoning on the rice. Chicken was a bit dry but I didn’t realise it came with chicken so it was a great surprise!i recommend.
Delivered on 29/08/20 through UberEats. Very quick, and good quality packaging.
FOOD: 4.5/5. Katsu don’s curry was medium spicy and very flavourful. The katsu itself was tender but not too soggy. The Waya sushi rolls were great. Generous amount of salmon and not overdone with sauce. Downside was the dry and soft chicken karaage, however we did enjoy its accompanying salad
(Yakitori don also pictured)
Takeaway from Waya, well, no choice in this current situation :)
Pretty happy overall - big fan of the ox tongue skewer, good thickness and flavour. Tataki was a bit dry, bit so so with the okonomiyaki but that’s the problem with takeaway sometimes as food gets cold etc the sashimi platter was good, all is fresh. Though I’d prefer if the rolls with spicy mayo is not part of the platter, makes it out of balance with the strong sauce amongst the fish
First time trying out Waya, after hearing so many good reviews! We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all beyond my expectations. Definitely want to come again.
Been here multiple times and the service is always fast friendly and helpful. Food never disappoints 😊
Delicious food with beautiful presentation, very happy and friendly staff and quick service which is fantastic! highly recommend, we come back every 2 weeks or so for the delicious food!! 🤩
A great quick cheap Japanese restaurant with quality service and food! 👌
Having been here in the past, the food is delicious, my partner and I didn’t book but was reassured we would be seated. The food was delicious, salmon and tuna sushi, chicken and beef skewers, scallop sushi and a large bowl of rice with pork cutlet and egg, it was amazing, on disappointment was we were kicked out after 50min or dining without warning - they temperature checked us and all just a little disappointed that they didn’t warn us of the time restriction. Over all would 100% return
Very enjoyable, the server was courteous, food and drinks came promptly, and the place was kept clean.

We dropped in for a quick lunch and the food was amazing - good service and the food comes out super quick It was fresh and beautiful
I do like the food and good variety to choose from, though I do find the food a bit pricey. It can be busy during peak hour. Staff were nice and friendly and service was good. Good location.
Staff always greet with a warm welcoming smile, they are very polite, approachable and accommodating. The food is fresh, with lots of flavour. Always a pleasure dining here.
Went here for a Kris Kringle get together
We ordered
- Chicken teriyaki bento box
- Unagi bento
- Okonomiyaki
- Chicken teriyaki don
- Salmon mentai roll
I had the chicken teriyaki bento. Was super filling and had a lot of different things in it. Plus was affordable. I really liked the chicken but after a while it did get sickly.
The okonomiyaki was good too. Had a lot of flavour & loved the sauce. I had to scrape some of the fish flakes off it, too much for me but that’s just my opinion.
My favourite was the salmon mentai roll. Was jam packed with ingredients & they were big rolls as well. Super yummy too.
My friends liked the unagi bento & the chicken teriyaki don. The friend who had the chicken dish also thought after a while the chicken got a bit sickly.
Always come here for a quick bite to eat or if we're feeling like Japanese close to home. Good selection, fast service and very reasonably priced. Really can't complain!
I come here almost every time our family has a day off. Food was decent this time compared to other times I've been to the restaurant on multiple occasions.
The perfect pork Ramen! Generous serving with a good amount of noodles and pork. Lovely staff that served us very quickly and the ramen came out quickly.
amazing environment with great food, variation of foods which was delicious
shabu shabu is good value for money
Easy to find, easy parking around, Glen is always busy at dinner time. It is a average level Japanese restaurant for reasonable prices. Would be a perfect place for a work lunch.
Go-to place when feeling like consistently filling Japanese food. We came on a Sunday evening and was easy to get seats.
We ordered:
1 x Salmon Mentai Roll
1 x Waya Maki
1 x Spicy Panko Prawn Roll
1 x Seaweed Salad
The sushi rolls tasted really good and the fish tasted quite fresh. My favourites were the salmon mentai and waya maki. Only downside is the rolls are very large and fall apart easily, and I've noticed this on previous occasions as well. No matter what, the rolls are always like this. Though if you're there to just be fed, then it's not a big deal.
Staff were attentive and friendly. I recommend Waya for a good-priced Japanese meal on Kings Way.
Our most favourite Asian restaurant in Glen Waverley, infact it’s the only one we have dinner at. Thanks Jo for always offering the best food and service.. keep up the good work!

Waya is easily my go-to local Japanese spot! 🙌🏽 quality japanese at a really good price 😁 they make everything from curry katsu don and salmon sashimi to ox tongue and teriyaki eel 😉 definitely on my recommended list if you're in the hood and feeling for sushi ☝🏽
.
☑ 8/10! can't go wrong with this waya maki dish, and waya-wouldn't you love these 😉😎 clean fresh salmon w/ a delicious japanese mayo, fresh crunchy cucumber and caviar.. nice flavour combination and one of my favourite cold meals ☝🏽 one of these will fill you up no doubt! Mix your soy and wasabi and go for it! 😍 oh and a side of bbq ox tongue 😁 went down a charm! the perfect fresh meal! 💰 price range is great in my opinion, you get a lot of sushi for $16 odd dollars 👌🏽 get around it if you're in the area! 😎
.
💡 TIP - if you havent tried ox tongue before then i recommend it! Grilled right, its like a beef steak with extra fat and flavour 🤤 melts in your mouth 😉 you game? 🖲

The Waya Maki is quite good. My daughter and hubby go for the chargrilled beef ramen, although I find it a tad salty for me. I go for the bento, or sushi or a selection of entrees. Service is fast and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
Went to Waya for lunch, I’ve been here many times in the past and all of my experiences were consistently great.
We ordered the beef skewer, teriyaki chicken and spicy spare rib dons as well as a side of pork gyoza. All the dishes arrived in a timely manner and were steamy and hot.
The protein game was proper as all our meats had a tender juicy bite paired with yummy flavours. It was my first time having the ribs and they were hitting hard on the taste buds boi.
My cheeky mate also decided he wanted to sample some of their flavoured sakes. He ran with the peach today and let me tell ya, the fruity sweetness paired with the alcoholic buzz was banging.
There are no outstanding downsides I could find as our service was also fast and polite paired with excellent food. Very solid place for me.
First time having the spicy ribs and it was the best out of all (they were all nice). Been here so many times before and the food is always good.
For the price, this Japanese food is delicious and they have great service. Used to come here before coming vegan (photos are from before then) and still come now with there being yummy options. The service is amazing. The ambience could be nicer but for the price of food, can’t complain.
Never fail to leave here happy and tummy satisfied! Food never disappoints. The rainbow sushi and terriyaki chicken bento boxes are my go to favourite. The classic katsu curry is also a winner!
The decor is simple and on a weekend night the place may fill up quick to make sure to book, or a little wait may occur but definitely worth the wait. However if you come in a large group there are cozy booths available!
Staff are always happy to help and I always love the relaxed environment and atmosphere. A great feed everytime
Really delicious Japanese food at a great price 👌🏼👌🏼
I reallly liked the salmon sushi roll and that sauce on top was so yum ! The rice wasn’t as fresh and soft as I would’ve liked but the overall roll was still enjoyable.
We also tried the uni- however for some reason it tasted very fishy to me so I didn’t enjoy it that much.
The octopus salad however was quite nice and I liked how there was so much octopus !!
I’ll be back to try some other dishes
Had lunch here with my family for Mother’s Day. Food is great and worth the price. Customer service is superb. I left my wallet and one of the staff was honest enough to ran after us and return it.
A nice and casual Japanese restaurant. Had the Japanese Katsu Curry and the Tonkatsu Bento - which were both very decent. Both the portion and the price are reasonable. The bento has a nice variety, however it’s the kind of food that can be found at any Japanese eatery. It’s a very popular place though and it is still very satisfying if you’re craving Japanese!
Generous seving sizes and good quality ramen! I highly recommend the Gyoza Ramen. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and plenty of tables. I'll be back for sure 🍲
I come here all the time, pretty affordable & super tasty sushi! I only come here for the sushi dishes as the others aren’t my favourite...
The best ones here in my opinion :
• Raw Salmon Hand roll (super fresh)
• smoked salmon hand roll (this is incredible)
• spicy prawn Panko (my fav out of the top 4)
• ways maki (close first.. this is amazing )
Reasonable priced izakaya type of Jap food. The sushi and sashimi were quite good for the price. Fried rice was very not interesting. Probably will come back for more sushi someday
Waya go somewhere else when you can go here? Casual place to go for a quick bite - quality is consistently decent. Not amazing, but it is mostly good.
First of all - service is good. Food is served rather quickly despite busy periods, and it's not difficult to get the attention of staff. Even on low peak periods, I counted around 5 or 6 waiters, so you won't really feel unattended. Not sure why some reviews have said that the waiters don't speak English - I don't speak anything but English and it was fine.
Food-wise, it's mostly hits but a few misses. The sushi is generally good quality. The bento box (my go-to dish) is good, if not for the individual elements, then for its enormous portion size, though sometimes the yakitori is a little cold. The don they have is quite good - flavoursome, hot - go for the beef teriyaki. Only thing I would steer clear from is its tonkatsu (crumbed pork). I've had it three or so times, and each time it had a strange, bitter flavour... Not entirely off-putting, but definitely strange.
Still, I come to Waya fairly frequently. Maybe it's because there are few Japanese restaurants nearby, but for its price, it's fairly decent, and considering how it's outlived two or three other Japanese restaurants in the area, that's gotta say something about quality.
Great spot for some great quality Japanese for great value. Ramen serving was a tad small, but price is equivalent so be sure to get some extras. Sushi was very nice, but highlight was the chicken!
Popular Japanese family restaurant in the heart of Kingsway.
Food 4/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 5/5
✔Unagi bento box: Unagi is delicious, the rest of the box is good but tastes like it can be found anywhere (seawood salad, California rolls, fresh salad). That's not to say I don't appreciate the variety of food for such a reasonable price!
✔Purple sweet potato: Crunchy and sweet. Burned the roof of my mouth but totally worth it.
Staff are always super friendly and welcoming. Only nitpick is that the downstairs space is very narrow, since the restaurant is so popular sone of the tables are extremely close together. We always get reliably good dinners here though.
Super fresh sashimi and delicious uni. I enjoyed my meal so much and know why it's always packed now. Slightly expensive but if you're looking a place where nothing will disappoint you, Waya is perfect 👌
Absolutely adored this place before going vegan!! More vegan options eg carrying soy milk ans incorporating more tofu in the menu would be greatly appreciated!
I've been here a few times and the food is always amazing here. Comes out so quickly and is always delicious and hot! It's so cheap too for what you get! Staff are really friendly too!
Surprisingly decent Japanese food served by non-Japanese. Although I cannot compare it with Sushi had in Japan, but this is my sushi go-to place in Glen Waverley. WAYA maki sushi and beef on tongue are two of the best, recommended!
Popular regular Japanese spot for us. Good sushi, bentos and we often go in for big groups in multiple tables. Nice iced matcha drink too

If I could give this more stars I would. I’ve never had such fresh, delicious, AMAZING Japanese food !!!! ..... except when I was in japan. Less then 2 minutes after we ordered our food came! We were out of there within half an hour, value for money is incredible and the staff were so friendly and attentive. My new absolute favourite restaurant!! couldn’t recommend more !!
Great food and extremely quick service. The menu is very extensive, great for kids and fussy eaters. Perfect Asian restaurant for the whole family.
Been here for years and I feel like the ratings does not justify the wonderful service and the delicious food they serve in this restaurant. Their food is very consistent and delicious. Their bento is value for money and their sashimi is very fresh. This place will always be our favourite place for our quick Japanese fix. Well done guys!
Waya is a modern, casual Japanese restaurant that did move locations but seem to have the same dishes with only slight differences. I'd recommend the sashimi and entrées yet their ramen was average. It is however probably one of the better Japanese places in this area.
I’m only giving it 4 stars because the waya hotpot was really good and satisfying, we added the udon which was cooked perfectly. The sushi roll (waya maki and salmon mentai) had a good serving size, but taste was just average and the roll was loose as the ingredients started falling apart. Bento box was really good. All in all, bento and hotpot was probably the best. And it’s also pretty value for money. Otherwise I would have given 3 stars because their service was not the best, it was not very busy but staff pretended not to see us when we raised our hands.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurant in glen. Took many friends here for dinner and lunch. I love the hotpot and wagyu . Casual but very yummy sushi and sashimi. Recently I been here tried grilled eel bowl that is really good.
I come here often with my family and it’s always sooo good. The waya maki is sooooo good, the hot pot thing is soooo good as well and I love the curry!
A nice place for good japanese cuisine.
The dishes look amazing and taste delicious
I was never a japanese food lover but since I tried waya it changed me and I frequently try different dishes out here
Regularly visit this place and never walk away disappointed. Delicious food, affordable and a huge variety available. We often dine with a vegan friend and she still has options.
Very busy, need to take a ticket for a table. Highly recommend beef skewers. Juicy, medium rare, deliciousness. Sushi are big serves. Friendly service. If you want all food to come at once, make sure you let them know. Very tight space, can't fit prams.
• Waya • Anyone who has me on Snapchat, knows how much of a regular I am here. I honestly have not found a Japanese restaurant that is as fresh, tasty, and cheap as this one. From bento boxes to ramen, they have all the essential Japanese dishes. Located in Glen Waverley, dishes priced from $6 to $20. Customer services is always a 10/10. Please give here a go!!! #foodporn #japenesefood #sushi
I can only comment on the sushi and sashimi, as we ordered our own dishes and only shared some takoyaki (which was nice but also topped with a tonne of bonito). The sashimi was fresh and had a wonderful texture! I also ordered the waya maki, which was nice too especially with the sauces on top, but beware as it is a very large roll. Staff were extremely friendly on entry, and polite when asking us to exit our table due to waitlists. A good Japanese option in Gwav.
Delicious Japanese food and prices pretty affordable. Staff are very professional and friendly. Nothing bad to say about this restaurant, everything is fantastic!
A nice place to have Japanese cuisine. Sashimi is fresh. But the some ox tongue is overcooked and hard to chew. The price is in Median range in Melbourne. Overall It’s a nice place to have dinner
Waya is another gem of a restaurant at Glen Waverley with tasty food, generous portions and reasonable prices.
My family loves coming here as they get to enjoy yummy and fresh Japanese food without having to rack up a large bill.
The bento sets are well worth your money and you’d be stuffed to the brim from it. I personally like their beef and unagi bentos. The fried udon is also quite delicious if you want a change from your usual orders.
The restaurant is spacious and clean as they’ve recently moved to a newer location a few months ago.

AMAZING JAPANESE!!!
Waya Glen Waverley is my favourite Japanese/sushi restaurant in Melbourne, I recommend this place to all my friends and family. So fresh, so quick and ever so delicious I have been many times and the services is always amazing and the food is fantastic.
This is honestly the best Japanese street food I’ve tasted! The food arrives promptly and the staff are beyond friendly!! The variety of sushi and raw fish is great for beginners into the cuisine but has bags of flavour. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve eaten at this restaurant, one of my all time favourites!
Really enjoy Waya food, their service is fast and price is affordable. The food there taste good too, will be visit again. I would say Waya would be a best place to visit if you have friend meet up or party as they have second floor operate and it was nice.
