Review Trei Cafe - Glen Waverley

Arneiysh K
I had lunch at TREI Café today, and it was a pleasurable experience. The small menu had several options, catering to both non-vegetarians and vegetarians. The Southern Fried Chicken Bao was delicious. The chicken was tender, juicy, and crispy, while the bao was soft. The portions are decent, the service is swift, and the girl who served us was friendly and cheerful. A cute little gem in Glen Waverley, definitely recommended.

Since it’s opening the food and coffee have gone downhill. Went on a weekday and the staff were nice (but only had two waiting staff so the service was extremely slow, not their fault though) and all the menu items have changed so there are less. Which I think is a good thing to take off the pressure in the kitchen. But I found items to be smaller portions, the taste of the food also being subpar to what it used to be. The taste is decent but I think it’s not worth the price that they charge for it.

Nice and fresh ambiance, smiling & welcoming staff. Good good variety in breakfast menus. Must drink Dirty Chai if you are tea lover and need that extra coffee kick. My wife tried Chai Latte and that was perfect too. Enjoy your day with cup of coffee at TREI. Cheers

I've been here many times and each time, it's always delivered the goods. Ambience is warm and opening, service was also great. One of the big breakfasts that I felt was close to good value, compared to other brunch places. And is hard not to order it each time, it's just put together very nicely so it has my recommendation. Juicy mushrooms too! Not sure what changed about the freshly squeezed OJ though, but the texture/quality of it has dropped and was once something I always got.

Awesome coffee and the red velvet pan cakes were excellent. Impressive customer service
Damian Mechielsen
Coffee was delicious, nice blend with excellent milk foam. Good value at $12 for 2 coffees and a hot chocolate. Only criticism is that it could have been a little hotter. Service was very friendly too.

1st time we went, awesome food. 2nd time, the food was so disappointing, so was the coffee. Not sure I will go again. The waitresses were consistently lovely though.
Sasha Fenesse
Great service, nice Acai bowl but terrible poached eggs on toast. I could have made poached eggs a lot nicer that weren't overcooked at home myself with my eyes closed. The waitresses were very nice though.

Came here because someone recommended the cafe. Ordered Mango Panacota and Golden Latte for lunch. Drink came fairly quickly (within 10 minutes) but had to wait 40 minutes for the food. The golden latte isn't the best I had but it was good enough. The Panacota is yummy and served very attractively but it's not substantial enough as breakfast or lunch to make the 45 minutes wait worthwhile. There was no mention about the long delay with the food from the staff when I placed my order nor any update during the wait. I only knew about this delay when the lady sitting next to me asked where her Açai Bowl is after she waited over 30 minutes.Saw a group sitting on another table that only got their sweet potato fries after nearly 40 minutes. There was no apology when they served me the wrong order and no apology when the food finally were served. Staff didn't help their cause either. They were polite enough however no genuine smiles to be seen. As if they didn't want to be there. I could've got up and leave however I've paid for my food in advance and I don't have the energy to be angry. So bottom line is, don't come here if you're hungry and if customer service is important to you.

You’ve lost some regulars! Much smaller portions and totally overpriced. Big breakfast straight from a packet and way too salty. Let the waitress know and she said she didn’t like that meal and agreed the portions were small - but couldn’t do anything for us! Won’t even come back for the coffee!

Came here for lunch with my friend who had poached eggs and bacon while I had the mushroom burger with sweet potato chips! It was amazing! The coffee is the best I have had in ages! Definitely coming back to try the other dishes!!

I used to come here regularly and the staff were great. But I came today and I had to approach the waitresses for a table, they just told me to take a table and kept talking to each other. The food took 25 minutes to come to my table after ordering, and my coffee was lukewarm when it came to me. The food was awesome and hard to fault. And the cafe seemed understaffed but the staff weren't approachable or friendly at all. I'm probably not coming back again

Easy review. Went inside. Tables full. Did right thing. Spare table outside. Unoccupied. Not a reserved table. Sat down at a table outside. Lined up for food order for 7-8 minutes. About to order. Then told to leave the table and wait as the table is "reserved". At a walk in cafe. Terrible service. Went across the road to Kafe Karizma. Welcoming staff. Bright and breezy. Wonderful food. Hated Trei Cafe. First and last time. Can't rate the food as the staff are at pains to prevent you from trying it. Absolute avoid.

Love this place. Good food. Service could’ve been better on the number of occasions I’ve been there and with different groups. But still giving a five for the food mainly.

I received food poisoning from the satay coconut chicken on thurs the 12 of Jan. So sick! Informed the restaurant but received nothing from them at all in response. Very poor and don't recommend.

Came here for breakfast this morning 19th June coffee was cold there was no heating smashed avocado was disgusting, avocado was off there was no fetta on it although it was on the menu scrambled eggs were under done although I asked for well done and who puts peas on a smashed avocado, overpriced for what we got will not go there again

Quirky from the outside to entice you in, but once you're in disappointment reigns: 1. $3 for a side of spinach is a bit steep when you only get three leaves 2. Mushrooms from a tin? 3. Pouched eggs over cooked in lemon water 4. When one orders a coffee one expects that coffee to arrive. Oh wait it was never put through. Probs won't be back.

Always great tasty food so healthy and delicious.. always presented beautifully. Thank you Trei staff and management for bringing such a beautiful cafe to our local area

Super quick service, friendly staff and amazing paleo bread! Decent serving of avo too!!! Definitely worth the drive
Vasiliki Saltis
Business hours advertised till 4pm but you can't order a take away coffee at 3:30pm because the staff are too busy chatting and have shut their coffee machine already. Go across the road to cafe Karisma where the service is always better !!

Great coffee and bliss ball. A lovely place for a relaxing Sunday morning

HEALTH FOOD HEAVEN at Trei Cafe in Glenwaverley! Can't believe I didn't find this place sooner. Too many things on the menu to make a decision, cute decor, friendly staff and DELICIOUS food! I love my Acai bowls and the coyo icecream on top was genius. The snickers smoothie is a must for you peanut butter lovers! 10/10 and my new local hangout!
Katie Weerasinghe
We have been wanting to try this new place out. Quite enjoyed it. Love the decor. Service was great no complaints, they were polite and coffees and food came out quick. My husband had the pancakes they were awesome and presentation was very pretty. I had smashed avocado on toast although the lemon didn't blend well with it. We took a brownie home which was fresh . Would go again to try out more of the menu.

GET HERE NOW! Just what the Eastern suburbs needed. Great vibe, professional service, an amazing menu catering for health nuts and the odd indulgent feast. Oh... Let's not forget the coffee! 5 stars***** Sarah is onto a winning formula, and the secret is out:)

How long does it take to make one egg and bacon muffin? Apparently long for this place. This has happened several times unfortunately. We don't have the luxury of dining and need takeaway as we have jobs.

Every time we order an egg and bacon muffin it takes ages to prepare. Absolute disgrace. Never coming back.
Food4bunnies
Not sure how one finishes this.. So fluffy and decadent, this rassberry coconut goodness is something you have to try! Smelt sooo good too 🥞 if you haven’t got a big appetite I’d share with a friend :)
Jing
There was exactly 11 people in the restaurant including us and it took nearly more than 25 minute for the food the be served. But the food wasn’t exactly fresh the Baos that I ordered was cold and the bun was most likely microwaved. But if you like a little extra flavour the guy at the front who makes coffee was picking his nose... I guess he forgot customers were in the restaurant?
Vivien Le
We've been here in the past and every time there are problems with the service. This time I ordered my Eggs Benedict and asked for hollandaise on the side. I also repeated this request when the waitress repeated the order. Also asked for some sweetener to go with my coffee. Sweetener never came, and my Eggs Benedict was smothered in hollandaise when it arrived. We probably won't be returning, there are better cafes in the area with more consistent service.

The place was busy even on a weekday. It has a good variety of vegan options for those with special dietary requirements.
Service was good.

horrible food, my friend and I went for breakfast. we ordered and the food was given to us, with no cutlery, before we could even ask the girl disappeared. it took forever to get their attention, we finally got given cutlery.
she ordered avo on toast - the avocado was so hard she just had toast. I ordered the big breakfast - the poached egg egg over cooked, the bacon was barely cooked and the fat was rendered. the mushrooms and spinach was so flavourless.
Upon paying, I brought to their attention, all of the above, also pointing out how we basically ate none of it.
they just tried to defend themselves and make excuses. a simple sorry, or a discount or even a free coffee would have been appreciated. extremely horrible

I have no idea how this place is rated 3.8. The food was slow and ice cold and we were one of the many customers complaining. Their response is to “warm” the food and bring it back to you. Food also came out at different times when half the table was finished another person would receive their food.
Alysha McCormick
I was disappointed with the food preparation. I ordered the big breakfast, the mushrooms were undercooked, the bacon was overcooked, and remaining items were all cold. The coffee was great! This cafe was beautiful but seems though the standards have dropped
Annelise Van Rooye
The pancakes and cookies and cream smoothie were both super delicious! The pancakes came with a berry sauce, maple syrup, a pistachio crumb and some coconut ice cream. Drooling yet? You should be! They were epic! Could have easily shared with a friend though, they were enormous. The space is cute and well lit with different seating options. Menu has a range of options and I was glad to see a variety of vegan options.

Definitely check it out if you’re in the area!
A cute little cafe in the GLEN area. We ordered the coconut pancakes, acai bowl and also the fried chicken bao. The coconut pancakes were good and fluffy but unfortunately the icecream was already half melted when it was brought out. I loved the acai bowl- it was super refreshing and also the PB added a nice element to it. I also tried the fried chicken bao and found the bao super fluffy and the sauce really tasty too.
Overall was a great lunch however I think I would've enjoyed the experience more if the barista was a bit nicer as she seemed a bit inattentive.
Jessie
The staff doesn' serve clients at all, they asked us to wait for a table while there are three empty tables. Have no idea what they are doing, seems very busy but did nothing at all.

I went out for brunch today with a few friends and was very disappointed by Trei Cafe. We arrived and we're seated straight away, but it took 20 minutes before someone took our drink and meal order. When we looked at the menu it was illogically set out, with breakfast and lunch style food all in the same menu section. After ordering we waited approximately 40 minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered the mushroom burger and assumed it would be with bread, rather than a mushroom bun, as this was not stated on the menu. When our order arrived the mushrooms were slimy, the potato patty was flavourless, and the overall dish was cold. I would not order this dish again. The reason I gave two stars rather than one, is because one of my friends ordered the fried chicken bao which was delicious. Overall, I was very disappointed with my meal at Trei and I will not be returning.

Food 3/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 5/5

Came on a weekday around lunchtime and it was easy to find a spot.
• Mushroom burger with sweet potato fries was amazing value for money at $13 on the vegan menu. I have to say the fries were the better part of the meal in my opinion, as they were cooked well and had good crunch. The burger itself was also fine, but not really memorable.
• Burger sauce and avocado were nice additions too.

Waitstaff were kind as well. I'd like to try the coconut hot cakes next time!

Serving possibly the best coffee in the Glen Waverley area (especially with Kevin at the helm of the coffee machine), this small cafe gives life to an otherwise bland shopping strip.

Trei has a feminine feel to it, and, funnily enough, seems to have a largely female clientele. Perhaps it's the fit out or the dishes on the menu! (Maybe some meatier dishes - or pies - might bring more boys in!)

The food is delicious (and nutritious) however options for simpler dishes such as toasted sandwiches would be appreciated.

The staff tend to be very friendly but the wait for coffee and food can be a bit long earlier in the day when there’s not many staff there.

There are a few negatives - they don’t have newspapers available and it’s a little bit squashy when it’s busy.

(Please get some proper comfortable chairs for the front bench as those stools are not pleasant to sit on!)
Tim Deng
Food was excellent and only took 5 minutes to come out.

Portion sizes are huge and very filling.

Service was great. Although some staff seem disinterested in what they are doing.
Vegan Food Seeker
Used to come here three years ago and would get the greatest judgement and weirdest look from the waiters when I’d ask for something vegan. Now they finally realise it’s the norm! The $13 vegan lunches is great and is what got me and my friends coming back here again after a couple of years.

Had the raspberry pancakes and they were nice but not as great as they sound. After one pancake, then bread flavour is too much and they’re quite dry too.
The mushroom burger and beetroot latte are delicious though.
Naomi Perera
Went there today for my friends birthday breakfast. Forgot about her smoothie and only made when she asked (about 15 mins after we ordered). Got 2/5 meals wrong, bread wasn’t toasted. Wasn’t charismatic to begin with but once we notified them about mistakes wasn’t apologetic either. would not go again and definitely wouldn’t recommend
Eating With Ebony
Been wanting to test this place out for a while. The first time we tried to go they were closing early, not sure why but we obviously couldn’t eat there. However we tried again and it was open, not closing early or anything. However our food took over an hour to come out.... we think they may have forgotten our order because other people who came in after us were getting there food. When our food finally arrived it felt like it might have been sitting in the kitchen for quite some time. It wasn’t hot/ warm like you would expect it to be when you get your food. We ordered the chicken bao, sweet potato fries & the coconut pancakes. The chicken bao was quite nice and filling. The sweet potato fries were delicious. However the coconut pancakes weren’t that great. Not too sure if it was because it was a vegan feed & we aren’t use to eating that sort of food. But it tasted really floury. My friend and I could only eat the first out of three layers of the pancakes.
EatsOfMelbourneAus
Such a cute little cafe to eat in and I can’t get over that amazing feature wall. Thanks for the meals Trei Cafe, I’ll definitely have to come back here soon. 😄

Good coffee and the menu is pretty alright too. Staff is friendly and upbeat. Nice well lit environment with soft and soothing pastel decor. Always busy during the weekends with steady traffic of customers. Centrally located on Blackburn Road and well worth the short walk to grab a morning coffee before weekday commutes to the city.

Really nice little cafe, today was very cold around 10° so very cold in the actual cafe, but atmosphere was relaxed. The waitresses we had were nice, but the one mainly serving was a bit snappy but not a problem just a note. The food was really nice, the coconut pancakes with raspberry was very nice, very sweet and extremely filling I could only get through half but the coconut ice-cream was lovely and the pistachios around the plate made it better for me tremendously. I also got the matcha smoothly and it tasted exactly like the caribbean green drink from boost which was really nice, overall good experience

We come to this place mainly for the acai bowl, which really good, th he whole menu is good, as is the coffee, they use the milk lab almond which is is my opinion the best, Downfalls are the ambience, and the service which is friendly but just slow, maybe understaffed?
Juhi- Culture And Cuisine
No food is worth waiting 45 mins for.

Went to Trei yesterday for breakfast with a mate. The cafe was emptier than usual and there were a fair number of staff working.

We ordered 3 fairly basic dishes and a coffee and could not believe that it took 45 mins to serve the food. More annoyingly, each individual dish was served separately. My mate was already half done with his meal by the time mine was served and the third dish came another little while after mine.

The staff had no apology or explanation to offer.

Trei is a no go for me.

Came here on the weekend and this lovely cafe is located in the heart of Syndal, be sure to get there early as it's quite busy. I love the decor in this place and the wonderful vibe that it brings. Got the vegan pancakes for a bargain at $13 which also came with Ice cream on top. It was so devine, tasty and so fluffy. The meals did take it's time coming out but after all I'm overly satisfied. I also grabbed a caramel slice at the end for $4.50 was so delicious and worth every penny.

Went here with mum today. All of their vegan dishes are $13 hahah. I had Goodness Bowl, my mum had her Green Bowl. They were nice, the only thing we don’t like was the KALE 🥬 SO SALTY 😂 Whyyyyyyy

Full house today, overall was pretty good tho.

First and last time coming to this place. Took them 1 hour to bring out the food. Once it arrived they forgot to put salmon, then had to wait another 20 minutes for my salmon. When it came the salmon was not fresh had awful smell to it. Added eggs on my super bowl to be given 1 egg being charged for 2. Overall experience of this place was terrible would not return or recommend.
Rifan Thamrin
It started off really well, with location being so close to the station, service and ambient that were welcoming, fried chicken baos that were tasty, but everything went downhill when the second food came. There was a fruit fly in the orange juice, moulded berries, missing poached eggs on the avo toast. Quite a disappointing experience.
Chii
The staff were nice & the place is cozy. However, this cafe is disappointing. We waited 45 mins for our food. We ordered the Bao & the Trei Board- the OJ had a small fruit fly & the raspberry was moulded. I lost appetite halfway & their menu was not clear at all- it says that poached egg is included on the board but apparently you have to pay extra which doesn’t say on the menu.
Daisy
Instead of heading into the city for brunch, I decided to try Trei, as it’s closer to my house. The cafe is bright and airy, and they were happy for me to swap the stool I was seated at for a chair at another table. I got the brekky board which consisted of smashed avo on toast, a cup of muesli and a cup of OJ. The smashed avo and egg on toast was a bit bland; the muesli was difficult to eat as the cup was very full; and the orange juice was just room temperature. So overall, it was quite average and I could have easily made the dish at home instead of paying $19 at a cafe. That said, Trei is still one of the better places to have brunch in the surrounding suburbs.

Good coffee and chilled atmosphere within a modern minimalistic interior decor spells relaxing.

Coffee Roaster
Taste: ☕️☕️☕️☕️
Temp: ☕️☕️☕️☕️
Time: ☕️☕️☕️
Till: Standard $4
Takeaway: ☕️☕️☕️

An open and bright cafe on a busy road. I thought the service was a bit slow as we didn't get acknowledgement for at least 3-4 minutes whilst standing at the door. After that, service was fine. Food is presented very well. Looks a bit better than it tastes but still good.
Josie
Came for brunch on Friday 30/11 around 12pm (fairly quiet), ordered the "chocolate french toast" that came out looking nothing like the Instagram pictures, with unmelted chocolate buttons in the centre and no honey sesame seed wafer. With so much hype on Instagram about this place I was expecting a lot more. Wait time on the food was a while too.
Pretty disappointed.
Linda Davies
Been twice and enjoyed my experience both times. I got the nourish bowl on both occasions with added salmon and it was a filling meal. A very generous amount of rice though so I finished my toppings but not the rice. Coffee is decent and service could definitely be better, we didn't get acknowledgement from any staff for at least five minutes when walking in but overall a nice local spot for brunch.
Miriam Haug
The place is adorable and with vegan meals at only $13 you get great value. However I found that the menu was a bit of a hit or miss. The hotcakes were amaazing, so soft and tasted like custard filled pastry to me! The kenko bowl was quite bland and I didn't like the sauce it came with. The acai wasn't average but I wish someone had told me about the granola waiting for me at the bottom because that was delicious and I wish I could have eaten it with the acai instead of getting to it at the end! The cherry ripe smoothie was also pretty good, but the green matcha smoothie tasted just a bit too bitter and "healthy" for me (granted I'm not a big fan of green smoothies in general.) the staff was lovely and service was quick. Overall a pretty good experience!
Elle Lamar
Cool to wait 20+ mins for food but not when its bad. The hotcakes were really foul - kind of steamed goop. Waitress was lovely, atmosphere is like every other place around Melbourne and the music was loud and uninviting.
Barbarella Sedrak
Absolutely amazing cafe. One of my favourite places to eat! Especially for someone who eats clean, so no dairy or gluten I have wonderful selection of tasty food. Also Amazing coffees! In my case I get a chai latte with almond milk and one of my favourite chai spots. My partner highly rated the coffees too
Melanie (ForeverBrunching)
Overall good lunch here at Trei, and this is the second time I’ve been there after about a year. In terms of the ambience, the cafe has very light atmosphere and nice to sit in, but the music was really loud, making it a bit difficult to have a conversation. The waiters were polite but forgot to bring out a drink we ordered, until we went up the counter and reminded them while ordering some more food. The sweet potato fries which were delicious and were a very generous serving size. The Korean fried chicken was smaller than I remember. The chicken had good spice but was kind of dry, and the tacos weren’t very warm. I didn’t order any drinks but my partner ordered an iced chocolate which was nice.
Pav Arneja
A nice healthy alternative, Trei provides yummy food and good quality coffee too. Have been here a number of times and have always walked away happy. Sometimes the wait is a bit long but that’s a good sign of a busy and thriving cafe!
NW
Great atmosphere, perfect for catching up with friends on the weekend. The service was quite slow but understandable. The price is average and yes, highly recommended!
Lauren Marino
The food here was incredible. The pancakes were some of the best, I'm not a big pancake lover. The nourish bowl was satisfying and yum. However the coffee was not good this day, bitter and watery and I couldn't finish it
I would be back for the food though!
Olivia
Really disappointed with this cafe. We had heard from friends about how great this cafe was and were excited to try out a potential new regular spot that had only $13 meals. However, after three disappointing visits I can confidently say that this place is not worth your time. Whilst staff consistently ask how the food is, nothing ever changes when you tell them it is terrible! On each occasion the food I selected was almost inedible and looked nothing like what was promised on Instagram. I’ve attached two photos, guess which one was mine and which is a photo from Instagram.
Alicia
We ordered the chocolate French toast ($17) and the Korean fried chicken tacos ($18.50). They were both definitely tasty, but I just don’t find the prices to be worth the portion size. The portions are definitely to the smaller side, and prices are on the higher side. The food is good, but not amazing to make the price worth it.
The tacos lacked an asian flavour in the meat, and the cabbage was very sour. Separately, the elements of the taco don’t taste great, but together it definitely tastes quite good. The French toast is nice, but like it was mentioned earlier, not worth $17.
SJFU
We had the Kenko Bowl and Hotcakes from the $13 vegan menu, and the Chocolate French Toast from the normal menu.

The food was just okay, not really worth coming back for. The Kenko Bowl tasted very lacklustre as no ingredient was particularly nice. The Hotcakes were better, good for $13. The Chocolate French Toast was disappointing, it wasn't flavourful, interesting nor a sizeable portion.

I’m glad Glen Waverley has more cafes like this, but there is much better food within a 10 minute drive.
Nikz
After having seen so many posts on social media about their $13 vegan menu, I decided to try it.

I ordered a soy latte and the goodness bowl. The wait for the food and drink took awhile.

The soy latte was okay. I expected more flavour with the goodness bowl but was met with disappointment. The rice was too hard for my liking and the lack of flavour made everything very average.

Very underwhelming meal.

Food Rating: 😀 4/5
Atmosphere Rating: 4/5
Service Rating: 👏 4/5
Clean and cute cafe in Glen Waverley!

Trei Cafe, right next to Syndal station in Glen Waverley, is a small and cute cafe with great service and food! Had the Cookies and Cream Hotcakes from their $13 vegan menu and it was more than filling! The hotcakes were warm and dense, and went so well with the coconut vanilla ice cream and the strawberries.
Would definitely visit again in the future!
Munchk1n
Really good big brekky, nice matcha latte, friendly service and well priced! Will definitely return! Bit of a wait on food today but it was worth it!
Bella
Honestly this cafe is so underrated.
The food is always great with reasonable prices too.
Best big breakfast by far. Their acai bowl is also massive for only $13!
Nicole
Really? $17 for two tiny pieces of toast with a scrape of avocado? I have no problem at all paying good money for food but I want to be fed, not insulted. There are many better cafes in Melbourne offering much better value. Our waitress was lovely though and she took our feedback well. Won’t be returning to Trei though.
Danielle
Waited for a pretty long time for the food & got uncooked hot cakes... at least I got a refund for it. Kinda sad how the quality seems to have dropped
Issy
I live nearby and have visited regularly in the past as I love the $13 gluten free menu. However after today I won’t be returning. I came here with my sister and Mum, it was late in the day so understandably the kitchen was already closed. We chose to order coffees instead, and when my sister asked for a caramel latte, the waitress responded with “no sorry, we don’t do those... we’re trying to be healthy”. Funny that, considering the menu features items like hot/iced chocolates, which are no more ‘healthy’. I found this comment to be incredibly rude and judgemental, and it made my sister extremely self conscious and uncomfortable. Very disappointing.
Noam Lang
The vegan menu is excellent! We ordered three different dishes and they were all delicious as well as beautifully presented. The service was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Charlotte
Came here earlier today for brunch with a friend, we both ordered the vegan cookies and cream hot cakes ($13) and it was delicious! Love that all vegan options are $13! Our waitress was very polite and friendly, and coffee was very nice and strong. Can't fault this place, will definitely be back!!

If you’re looking for a bit of a detox after some days of heavy and unhealthy eating then look no further. Located on a quiet strip of shops on Blackburn Rd in Glen Waverley, Trei is a small cafe offering some very healthy options. For the vegans and vegetarians, the menu has a range of options such as curry lentils, acai smoothie bowls, nourish bowls and mushroom burgers.
Anna
We were fortunate to have no wait on a Saturday at 10.30am, though there were times that we saw people being turned away as the space inside isn't huge. The eggs benny with pulled pork was really flavoursome - eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was on point. The beetroot and goats cheese burger was ok - the patty was a little too thick, and an accompanying sauce would've been a welcome addition. There are very minimal soft furnishings in the cafe, so the acoustics in the small space can be a little sharp. But overall, we would visit again.
Mimi
Came here for the sweet potato fries and was not let down! They were perfect. But unfortunately the rest of the food was below average at best. I had ordered the curried lentils that were being heavily promoted on instagram. I wasn’t expecting the dish to come out looking exactly like the vibrant images posted online, but to at least some what resemble them... unfortunately it both looked and tasted bland and dry.

It was just today (Wednesday 6th of June) I strolled down the local streets of Glen Waverley when i happened to realise i was just a little bit hungry. My eye caught this interesting looking cafe, so i decided to wonder over. I stood at the front door for close to 10minutes before i was acknowledge by any member of the staff. By now i was already disgraced by the service of the cafe. After being seated, i waited close to another 15minutes before i was asked if i maybe wanted something to eat or drink. My burger came and it was cold and one of the most disgraceful meals i've ever had. I was then faced with an extremely over priced bill to top off my unbearable experience at this apparent cafe. Never ever ever ever ever will i be returning to this place. I recommend not going to this Cafe, Don't waste 10minutes of your life standing at the door!

You guys, I mean...what an amazing place! I saw pictures on instagram and finally visited Trei. Service was so good. The staffs were so nice to talk with. I ordered pancake with ice cream. Delicious! Coffee was good! Definitely will back to try more!
Cafechick
I had a very simple order - takeaway soy flat white and a croissant. Both super delicious, turning a really simple brekky into a real delight.
Marina Ung
Unfortunately when we came here to eat, it was extremely disappointing in so many ways. The dish we ordered was korean friend chicken tacos, you might as well order a plate of salt. The second dish was panna cotta which I was told from my best friend that it was very sour and tasted off. We paid and walked out.
Vincent Liow
Had the korean fried chicken in tacos. I also tried their green tea latte and cappuccino. Overall the food and coffee is great. Will definitely go back there.
Whenfoodsonpoint
Went here with some foodies friends and weren't disappointed! Good quality food with good quality service. We had to wait for 15 mins for a seat, but I like waiting because it's generally a sign that the food is on point!

I used to love visiting Trei but recently the quality of food has deteriorated. The greens bowl was always my go to, but now with the new menu there is not really anything to rave about. I had the vegan cookies and cream hotcakes last time I visited, which were okay, but nothing special. The hotcakes themselves were very dense and there was very little cookie crumb. The coconut ice cream was yum but that just came out of a container. The coffee, however, is always very good! While it is okay, I probably won't be back again.

Interesting menu but not great with the execution! We ordered the fried chicken tacos ( chicken was burnt and over cooked which was sad considering the flavours of the overall dish was quite pleasant!) , the pulled pork Benny ( the eggs were over and not runny and there was not much hollandaise sauce so again while the dish had nice flavours it was dry) and sweet potato chips ( cooked well and the guacamole was zesty). My husband had a hot chocolate which was nice and rich. While all the staff are pleasant the service was very slow even when there weren’t many customers. Will visit again to try their French toast ( looked yum) and hope for better execution and service next time around!

Location of the cafe is great with easy parking.

The cafe was busy but seemed very understaffed, while they were quick to take our orders, receiving them was a whole other story. My food came before my coffee did, and I had to remind the staff to bring our my coffee. This was quite annoying.

I got the eggs my way with a side of smoked salmon. When I ordered, I was asked if I wanted toast. This was confusing. My eggs were perfectly poached however which is a huge positive.

My friend ordered the big brekky which came out on two separate plates and didn’t look appealing at all. While it was a pleasant meal, it just wasn’t aesthetically pleasing at all.

They even tried to charge us for food we hadn’t ordered but I know mistakes can happen.

Overall it was a good experience, but I probably wouldn’t go back purely because the service was terrible and they took way too long to bring everything out.

A very on-trend, health-conscious cafe on the bustling Blackburn Road near Syndal Station, TREI has been my occasional go-to brunch spot for a reasonably guilt free feed.

Their nourish bowls are particularly good but on my most recent visit I had the Mango Panacotta ($14) which was extremely pretty but an also extremely light dish. Would definitely have appreciated some granola sprinkled around it. Also had the matcha latte which had a very weak matcha taste so was a bit disappointing. That being said, I’ve always enjoyed coming here in the past and can attest to the quality coffee and quality of the other dishes too.

This is the second time I've come here and it did not disappoint (again)! Everything we got was so pretty. The Eggs Benedict was delicious - the apple cider hollandaise was the perfect sauce for the pulled pork. Added a hash brown and it was crispy and delicious! My friend got the Smashed Avo and, from what I heard, was pretty yummy, too. For drinks, we got a flat white, hot chocolate and an iced chocolate - all made really well. Will come back for the rest of the menu :)

Very friendly service and food comes in good time. I used to travel half an hour for the coconut hotcakes so was disappointed to find that it is no longer on the menu. The fritters were well presented but below average in terms of texture and flavour- they completely fell apart when eating them and were a little dry. The cookies and cream hotcakes which replaced my favourite were not bad but I preferred coconut. Was pleasantly surprised to be given a muffin to sample which was delicious. The sweet potato chips were slightly soggy and thin, unlike their thick, crispy predecessors. I believe this cafe has changed hands.

Editing review based on new menu: last menu was 4.5

Being regular customers of trei, we were excited to come in and try their new menu. We ordered the raspberry bowl and chocolate french toast. The raspberry was nice, but could use more toppings to balance it out, perhaps some granola?
The chocolate french toast was delicious but ultimately disappointing. Being one of the most expensive items on the menu, I expected more. It was quite small and could have been two pieces for $19.50.

The ambience is still lovely, tables are spaced nicely so you don't feel squashed in, and the cafe itself is bright open. Up until today, we have never had a problem with service, but it took 40 minutes for our meals to come out today, with tables ordering after us receiving their meals first.

Perhaps this was just an off day for trei, I would still recommend it if you are in the area. There is ample parking and it's also near syndal station. However, stick to the old favourites such as the acai bowl and breakfast burger.
The food and the service are terrible. The old guy making the coffee has no idea. Don’t bother coming here. It’s just not worth your effort.
The Whippeteers
Walking home from the CAR MECHANIC, this Whippeteer and Wasabi 'the super pup' (now quite a young lady - 3.5yo Whippet -Snob/Dog Bully/Butt sniffer/Dog treat scammer) felt like a coffee, AS YOU DO! Owner, not the dog LOL.

So, Trei has been here for a few years, and the queues seem to have settled down. At this point, some places seem to get sold off to new owners and then standards drop. NEITHER has happened here.

Top quality coffee is the norm. The latte was simply SUPERB. $3.50 for a small is reasonable. Service prompt/efficient/friendly.

Ps on a hot day, this cafe sits nicely in the shade in the mornings.....

Visited Trei on an early Saturday morning for brunch with high hopes. Wasn’t very impressed with the two dishes that was ordered for our table.
Service: 4/5
Value: 2.5/5
Food: 2/5

Located locally in the SYNDAL suburb, Trei offers a modern, pleasant looking menu that screams aesthetic food. As it only has a small area, it does get pretty crowded and noisy however the food is good. I ordered the Chicken Satay bowl and even tho it was really filling, the brown rice were plain dry. The food was bland but not bad!

Came here a while ago and had the coconut hot cakes and cherry ripe smoothie. The hotcakes were nice and filling but the smoothie was thin and not very tasteful. The nutmeg in the coconut ice cream wasn't my favourite matching with everything else. Would come back as I like the look of the rest of the menu.

Love the service and environment. Coffee is great, food is a little pricey though. Really like their turmeric latte and almond croissant. Parking is easy, wish their opening hours on Saturday is a little longer.

Trei is a small cafe which can get quite busy during lunch time. I tried the coconut satay bowl and korean fried chicken tacos. The satay sauce in the coconut satay bowl was bland. Overall, the food was soso.

Located in Syndal, TREI is a crowd favourite for Monash Uni students (well if you haven’t caught a bus down to visit - you know where to go next!) Their bright interior makes brunch joyous and almost happier. They have a range of healthy options (YES to granola and açai bowls AND pancakes! ♥️) and the perfect combination of big breakfasts! Coffee is fantastic too.

TREI is a cute little neighbourhood cafe that offers up a menu that’s definitely on-trend and visually appealing. The diverse offering is bound to satisfy both the health-conscious as well as those looking for a more gluttonous feed.
While the execution wasn’t quite perfect, we certainly enjoyed our brunch here, and the real winner would undoubtedly be that signature nourish bowl.

Stopped by here for breakfast with a friend. Place was busy on the weekend but we were able to get a table for 2 rightaway. The cafe has a relatively small selection in the menu, and we both ordered the same dish...the spicy cauliflower fritters with chorizo. It was just average, nothing overly special but it still tasted good.

Great food - very healthy and nice presentation. The staff serving were friendly and very helpful. Has a trendy feel about it and nice decor

Service was good. Food was ok. Atmosphere is bad. It's really loud in there when everyone is talking due to the small size of the shop. The worst is when the blender goes off every 5 minutes. The blender is so loud that you cannot hear the person right next to you.

We also had a bad experience in that we made a booking with a high chair. When we arrived we were told they only had one high chair and it was being used by someone else. We sat through our entire meal having to hold our baby in our hands which of course meant that we could not eat together. Pretty bad that this place only has one high chair, and if they know they have a booking with a high chair then they shouldn't be giving it to other tables when they know they have an upcoming booking which has requested for one.

Very attentive staff members :) Everyone is so nice no matter how busy they are.

This is my favourite cafe spot to chill and calm down before or after a long day of studying at Monash University. Their soy latte and raspberry muffins are must trys :)

Trei café is serving up healthy meals for breakfast and lunch proving healthy doesn’t have to be tasteless. You can have the flavour without the guilt. The food is fresh, tasty and full of colour. Trei cafe – lattes. We started brunch with some latte’s. Regular and matcha. Trei cafe – sweet potato fries

We visited Trei cafe on a Monday afternoon. Most of the cafe was filled up but luckily there was still one spare table at the back.

1) Coconut Chicken Satay Bowl - This was a bowl of utter goodness. I loved all the ingredients in it (eg. chicken, kale, avocado, broccoli, poached egg, brown rice). The satay sauce was nice, not too overpowering and the egg was runny. The only little let down was maybe the chicken was a bit overcooked.

2) Pulled Pork Benny - Very pretty looking dish. Eggs were cooked well. The hollandaise sauce was creamy. The pulled pork was a bit dry though.

3) Big Breakfast - This was good. It was big and plentiful. The sunny side eggs were cooked well, weren't burnt which was good, and there was a nice amount of avo and mushrooms. The toast had butter on it which was our fault because we forgot to tell the waiters not to put butter on, but that is more of a personal taste thing haha.

4) Coconut Hotcakes - This would be the instagram dish of the day. It was simply gorgeous. Loved the bright colours. In terms of texture, the hotcakes were light and fluffy but didn't have much taste to it. The coconut nutmeg ice-cream was velvety smooth but I didn't really taste the coconut. The nutmeg taste was definitely way stronger.

5) Matcha Latte - Ohhh that was a good cup of matcha. Enjoyed it :D

Overall, pretty satisfied with the food. I loved the coconut satay bowl the best. I would eat that again. Although we didn't order it, but the sweet potato wedges with the guacamole looked amazing!!

Instagram @Flabnbone_Food.

The Arabica is strong and has a good taste to it, food excellent and there is not a long wait, as well as the customer service that the cafe has is exceptional .

Not bad, not great. I had the breakfast burger and there was honestly too many flavours going on. Drenched in sauce which was difficult to eat. Menu specified haloumi, but it came out with saganaki which I don't enjoy as much.

A healthy suburban cafe with those simplistic vibes. Came during the weekend and the wait wasn't too long. Seen some visually pleasing dishes and sas excited to try. Food came out quickly and was fairly decent but nothing exaggeratively wonderful. Average coffee. Attentive staff and polite service.

Very aesthetically pleasing meal, first time I had tried brunch style pancakes. However pancakes are one of those things- I believe, that look good but dont always taste that great. The taste was average but when you get up to around half way, you kinda just feel the baby bloat and its not that enjoyable to eat. But in saying this, they were fluffy and soft! But then again this was my first date (with my now ex) and I was probably more focused on how I am never going to see him again rather than the food x

Have been going to Trei for just over a year now and the coffee is always good.
The staff are friendly which makes for a great atmosphere.
Will continue to visit 😊

Lovely cafe! Bustling and busy at midday - we were lucky to get a table. Fantastic menu with such a great variety of veg options! I ordered the nourish bowl with a lemon hot water. The bowl was so good! The mix of different veggies were all cooked perfectly and tasted great together. The staff were friendly and food came pretty quickly. Would highly recommend a visit!

Mediocre food with disorganised, poor service.

Called in advance to make a reservation and was told that it wouldn't be needed and just walk in. When we did, we were told there would be a 20 minute wait - no worries tags understandable. 20 minutes later was told there might be a table free in another 20 - 30 minutes. This was for a small party of 3 people.

A bloomingly busy little cafe on the weekends. Recommend coming by just 10.30, to sneak in before the peak rush. The coffee was decent (not bad but not one of the best I've had) and the panacotta was wobbly and enjoyable! Recommend the milk though, the granola gets a bit tiring to munch all the way through!

Food is fabulous, coffee always great, chia delicious, consistently great, never disappoints ever!! Quick friendly service!! Absolutely one of my favs!!!

Looking at the appearance of the hotcakes and the interior, all I can say is that it is flawless. Unfortunately I have more to say about the experience in terms of taste and ... patience? my friend and I waited 20 minutes for a spot. The waitresses do not seem very attentive to customers. After placing our order of hotcakes, we had to wait at least 30 minutes for our food to come. The hotcakes tasted quite average. The ice cream on the top was decent, not sure if it tasted like coconut though. The hotcakes were quite big and filling, on top of that there were three of them. We both could not finish the hotcakes; we agreed that it would have been better if it costed less, for a smaller portion.
