Review Dumpling Empire - Glen Waverley

Syed Hossain
Best ever asian chilli fried chicken we have ever had. The fried octopus was unbelievably crispy and yummy. The dumplings were juicy, tender and great in taste. We wanted more but we were too full at the end but still wanted more 😃
Joel Melbourne
When the chilli wontons came out I thought they looked average but I was so wrong. They were the best I’ve ever had mixed in with a chilli sesame tahini type sauce. The mapo tofu was top notch. The shao long bao were juicy and pretty good. But again. The chilli wontons. I’m coming back for them

I like the food at here. I love the pork dumplings,I think you need to try the pan fried dumplings. Mongolian beef is a good choice,it is amazing! And the deep fried squid is my favorite. The waiter was nice. If you have at least five people coming to dinner, remember to book! They are very busy.Because a lot of people like their food!
Matthew Aitken
Amazing spicy special fried rice and dumplings today, staff were prompt and readily available to accept take away orders. Now is the time to support our hospitality industry if you can.
Rebecca Lee
Cheap, delicious food with quick service. I love meat but I order the vegetarian dumplings each time. They are still the best veggie dumplings I've had in 5 years.

Have been going to this place for years and it never disappoints. Great taste and good service. Their chilli oil is to die for
Maria
The Mongolian beef was delicious - so fresh, tender & tasty…. You must try the spicy fried rice & add extra chilli oil 👌🏾 Dumplings are also top notch. Fast & efficient service, decent servings & all at a reasonable price.

When we walked in and said to the waitress that we were looking for seating for six people, the waitress answered No directly, and I don't quite understand why she would respond so directly, which is a particularly disrespectful act. If her English skills are not up to the point of understanding my question, please ask her to seriously practice and improve her English, but if she can't even understand and answer the question I asked accurately, I hope the owner should consider whether she is up to the job. In addition , the resource management skills of this attendant are a concern. A total of six of us waited in the cold for nearly fifteen minutes, but there was actually room for all of us inside the store, and we just needed to put together adjacent tables so we could get our seats quickly. Apparently, the waitress didn't notice that this was a good way to end things, and she acted indifferent until we relented and spoke up about the option. Also, I encountered an irresponsible charging procedure by the employee at the cashier. She incorrectly charged my credit card, which only had the MasterCard logo on it, at the CUP card fee rate. When I pointed out the problem, she justified it by saying that because my card issuer was from a Chinese bank, it had to be charged at the UnionPay rate, but it was not. After I repeatedly negotiated with her, she finally realized that it was a mistake, but in the middle of the negotiation, the attitude of the cashier made me particularly uncomfortable, a feeling of condescension, I believe if you were me at the time when I encountered this situation again will also feel extremely uncomfortable! Overall, I visited this restaurant two years ago and the quality of service is particularly poor compared to what it was before, and I'm sure there are many other Chinese restaurants with better service and better food for the same money. If you want to experience my bad feeling you can try it, otherwise please don't spend your money to find out!

Great food and fantastic service, awesome menu and friendly staff, I'd recommend having a meal there, it won't be your last

Awesome food, Amazing Customer Service, food came out quick and BYO (BYO) I would definitely recommend this place

We had dinner there last Sunday and food was great. Dumplings were so yummy. Big portions and friendly service. Would definitely recommend.
Geoff Wilkinson
Best dumplings! Great service, great food. Definitely recommend this place.
Rachel Leigh
Best dumplings! Great service. Also love the free slurpees! Definitely recommend this place
Kay Gerritsen- Blaney

Lisa Manettas Zachary
Love this place. Been many times. Food excellent. Quick service
Kevin Blaney
Great food and service will definitely go back.
Sam Fashka
One of the best fried pork dumplings I had, highly recommended!
Caroline Gee
Food was delicious. Had fried eggplant and vege dumplings. Yum ! Definitely would go back!
Joe Frenkel
Good selection of foods, good service, and BYO is back
Donna Simcox
Food yum but service sucked! Rude waitress told us to be quiet because we were laughing too loudly however you couldn't hear yourself talk! Then as we were considering whether to get more food we were asked to go as there were more people wanting to sit down however there were stacks of tables outside! They need a lesson or 2 in customer service!

TLDR; Food = 3/5, Service/Atmosphere = 3/5

Dumplings, as their name suggests, are what live up here. The classic pan fried pork dumplings lived up to having juicy meat and not being too greasy.
But... the cons - The sweet and sour chicken was velveted and therefore tender, but the sauce was dominated by the sweet flavour and made the chicken overall purely soggy. Shanghai fires noodles were unfortunately tasteless.

Overall, this is a very accommodating and clean place on Kingsway. They are on top of hygiene during COVID-19 times, and provide prompt and honest service (they burnt our first pan dumplings in the kitchen so they straight up told us it would take a while longer :) )
Convenient for take out meal and enjoy with family members at home. Dumpling empire serves good dumplings: juicy, lots of flavour with vinegar and chilli oil accompanying the dishes. Shanghai fried noodle is also suitable to accompany pork fried dumplings. Price wise is average like other dumpling places, but consistently delicious dumpling is what makes us return.

the best dumpling restaurant i have been to in Melbourne. i moved to melb from cali and have been searching for a go to restaurant that is good for price and quality. when i tried dumpling empire, i was blown away. i tried so many different dumpling restaurants in hope for a good place but all the others disappointed me. i am so glad to have been able to find this place. STAFF is amazing! Very attentive and sweet. FOOD is out of this world.
My go to items are:
- Pork Dumplings (Fried or Steamed)
- Chicken Ribs
- Shanghai Fried Noodles

Every single time my boyfriend and i come to this restaurant to eat, we have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant compared to the rest.

It was our first time to try out this barely noticeable place, the foods were surprisingly delicious! Almost every dish we’ve ordered were awesome. Will definitely go back and try their other amazing dishes. Highly recommended!

Delicious food with fast, friendly service. The express lunch menu offers a choice of mains (there’s 6 to choose from) and either a drink or side of 3 dumplings. The portion sizes are still huge and it’s only $10.80. It’s quite busy though - probably because the food is so good, so you might have to wait for a table if you go during a peak time. There’s also a large menu that you can choose from if you want something else.

Moving along all the restaurants on Kingsway in Glen Waverly, we were up to The Dumpling Empire. As you would be aware, The Glen and the surrounding restaurants are always packed so we always park in the multicomplex carpark around the corner (it’s also FREE!). We got in just before lunch time and it was quite empty but 10 minutes later, it was packed! We flicked through the menu and started our dumpling feast. The food came out quick smart.

I always love this place when I’m wanting dumplings in Glen Waverley. They always make them so well and delicious enough that I want to order more even though I’m full.

Great staff and service too.
PS91
Ordered the prawn and pork steam dumpling, beef fried dumplings and beef Shanghai noodles. Their steam dumplings were delicious and we preferred it over the fried dumplings as the skin tasted abit too thick and hard after the frying. The shanghai noodles was very flavoursome and the beef was so tender and the whole dish was delicious. Very friendly staff and efficient service.
Prajakta Pawar
Just a place you’re looking for if you love dumplings!! 5/5 for the taste. I recommend Pork and Veg dumplings. Steamy hot, tasty and so soft! Staff is very polite and friendly.
Daniel
the food was mediocre and staff didn’t know the menu. Was very hard to order the food. I was looking very forward to the food as they have an are with 3 people making fresh dumpling however the dumpling wasn’t anything different
Vivian
The service here is really quick and the dumplings are ok, not amazing but probably the best in Glen Waverley . I was a bit disappointed with the xiao long bao, the soup did not have much flavour

Absolutely amazing food. When I went in to write my review, I was shocked to see that Dumpling Empire was not rated as high as I had expected. We love dining in Glen Waverley when in Melbourne and have tried many of amazing restaurants in Kingsway. I must admit this is a restaurant we have walked past on many occasions however have never felt the need to go in. We ate there with the children and we were all were blown away by the warm friendly service and mouthwatering food. We tried the fried and steamed dumplings, chilli wontons, spicy fried rice and crispy chicken wings. My goodness the dumplings were great, the spicy fried rice was by far the best we have eaten and the chicken wings were to die for. We ate until we were bursting at the seems. Our party consisted of 2 hungry adults, 16 and 8 year old. My husband and I had a beer and a wine, the kids had cans of soft drink, along with our drinks our bill came to a total of just over $70. So so reasonably priced for such yummy food, very clean restaurant and kitchen (we dined late at night and saw them scrubbing every corner of the kitchen) and friendly service where nothing was an issue. Can not wait to return, only disappointed we hadn’t tried this little gem previously. Do yourself a favour and try Dumpling Empire. Could not fault
Eating With Ebony
Been craving dumplings & noodles for a while so went here with a few friends. We ordered a fair bit for 3 people. We got; pork dumplings, beef dumplings, Shanghai noodles, fried rice, xiao long bao & fried wontons. The food came out really fast & was super fresh. My favourite was the pork dumplings. They were probably the best pork dumplings I have ever had. The Shanghai noodles we delicious as well as the xiao long bao. Wasn’t a big fan of the beef dumplings or the fried wontons though.
Melbourne's Plates
I have come here several times and not once have I had a bad meal! My go to us the pan fried pork dumplings and the salt and pepper chicken ribs. The staff are great, the prices are great and best of all the food is great!
A great cheap dinner out!
Themal Mendis
Thought the blokes were alright upon entry. But they misinterpreted my order when I asked for a 'main Sichuan chicken'. When the fella out the back sent a sichuan fried chicken out to me I asked if this was the same as the Sichuan main chicken cause it looked pretty different from what I was picturing. Bloke told me I should have asked for a spicy Sichuan chicken instead, even though there were only two Sichuan options available and the waiter could have confirmed which item I was after. They did not replace my meal and the one I got was significantly smaller. It was hardly enough to fill up the average person had I not ordered more. I don't know how I feel about a mental coin toss choosing the destiny of my dinner. Blokes are still alright in my book but l was pretty filthy with their decision- Good blokes but.
Lole Lole Lole
Not a bad place. Service was fast, food was tasty. Our fried calamari came last, I think they forgot about it. Dumplings were quite tasty. Will visit again.
Jodie Pham
My favourite dumpling place, fast quick food service and you definitely get your money’s worth for food. Dumplings are always very fresh (chicken and prawn and beef dumplings!!)
Ruth Li
Good for something cheap. Not the most tastiest but filling. Tried the dumplings (pork and chicken/prawn), spring onion pancake, shanghai fried noodles and fried rice. Pretty good for a quick eat. Service is average.

Great place to go if you don't know what to eat.
BlueBelle
Just finished our meal. Ordered Fried pork and Chives and Chicken and Prawn Dumplings plus fried pumpkin cake. Our food came out so quick and fresh! Delicious. Will definitely comeback.
Tastybites
The food was good and really good prices but I was really disappointed because where my friend and I were sitting there were a lot of ants and it was a bit disgusting, I get there’s cracks and all but it’s not good to be sitting there eating and there’s ants there.
Good Food, Good Mood
Quite surprised with the previous reviews. I went with 4 other friends, we ordered a range of dishes; noodle soup, Shanghai fried noodles, and steamed pork & veg dumplings. Not the ‘best’ but certainly not the worst Chinese food I’ve eaten.
Albeit being very hungry when we got there, the wonton noodle soup was well portioned and delicious. The broth didn’t leave you thirsty afterwards as well.
We were seated upstairs but the tables were so close together it was hard to move around.
Dimples
Been here when they first opened. Food was ok. Decent. Was here last week with other friends. She was recommending the fried eggplant and the seaweed salad. Not as good as she had tasted it last month. The eggplant wasn't fried properly. Some cooked. some not. A bit disappointing. Tried the chili oil wanton and Shanghai noodles. Very oily. The wait staff was a bit rude too. Very impatient.
Quarter Of A Pounder
Had a meal after a long day here
ordered Steamed dumplings
Sigapore Noodles
beef noodle soup

Taste was very average, but then again we were very hungry.
I liked the dumplings but not something I'd rave about.

I'd come again only because there are not many good places to eat ard glen.
even though there are a lot of shops, I usually feel disappointed, hence the glen isn't my usual place for searching for good food.
@foodtom
The restaurant does not seem clean at all, the tables and chairs are all squished together making it hard to get in and out of your seat.
The food overall tasted okay, it is not completely fresh but for the price you pay it was mediocre.
Service was hard to get and waiters aren’t friendly.
MF
We got a table on the 2nd floor and definitely much better as we saw that ground floor was packed. Food wise, that we ordered, pork dumpling, chicken ribs, spring onion pancake, shanghai noodle, shanghai bun, all were delicious! Service was fast and attentive, and overall happy with our dinner, will be back!
Melissa Phu
Only ordered pork fried dumplings here. The pork filling was delicious but the actual dumpling skin was a bit sticky. Service is a bit slow and casual but the food comes out rather fast. Pricing is average, decent for Glen Waverley pricing!
Bluecat
Friendly staff! Quite clean for a Chinese eatery. Taste wise is average. They need to up their game if they want to last. I can get heaps better elsewhere.
Tum Tum
The food here is good. Have always liked their braised pork and roasted pork. Very good price for the portion they give you. The service however can be quite rude at times, which makes it uncomfortable to eat there.
Homie
The spring onion pancake is amazing, the food comes out quick and its yummo. We would come back to this place if we were in the area. Pretty clean as well.
Nadia Maciejewski
Go there pretty regularly. Friendly service, sometimes a wait for a table but only during busy periods. Always clean table. Try their fried tofu and dumplings are always a good quality.
Boris Megrelichvili
Avoid at all costs. Terrible food, terrible service.

Ordered;
- fried beef dumplings
- pigs ears
- chilli beef on rice
- chicken and peanut dish

All inedible, I left hungry.
Mailwilmot
Took order. Waited 15 minutes whilst others on table finished their food to be told mine still wasn’t ready.
Cancelled order. Used to be a regular but won’t be coming back.
Robert Chen
Used to be good, may be its under new management, the most recent visit was disastrous - ordered an array of dishes - sweet sour chicken n chilly beef, both stir fry came out floury and overly seasoned, we barely touched it. Chicken and Xiaolongbao tasted off, or not far from... Went home with disappointment and a stomachache...

Service - 2/10
Cleanliness 8/10
Dumplings 8/10
Friendliness 7/10
Other dishes 2/10
Value 9/10

We went on a tuesday night with 16 people. We shared dumplings then ordered a meal each. Some got more dumplings others braved the rice and noodle dishes.

Dumplings are awesome. Pork fried dumplings were juicy and the pick of the bunch. 10.80 for 12 pieces. Very good value.

Other dishes were very average. I would have preferred maggie instant noodles. I wouldnt try again.

I love this place and will continue to get there cheap dumplings. Just dont order the other dishes.

*update on the 10/11/18
Went again and the dumplings were the best ive had in ages. I had to improve the overall rating from 3.5 to 4.
To Be Honest
Just your average Chinese resturant. Comparatively to other Chinese joints, this one actually has prompt and good service, and the cutlery and bowls were clean. Food was reasonably priced for size and tasted good. Went upstairs which was less crowded which was nice. Went on a Saturday at 6:30pm got a seat straight away.
Shirley Nguyen
Close to one of my favourite dumplings and Shanghai fried noodles. Great service and I have been coming back at least once a week. Would be great if they offer tea instead of water.
Newman
Have been coming here for over a year with my partner and it never disappointed. However, went there again last week and ordered vegetarian spring rolls. It was RAW. The inside was soggy and really bland. The outside was cooked okay I guess (personally I would like a little more colour), but the inside of the pastry was still doughy. Had 1 bite and threw the rest away.

Definitely try the shanghai fried noodles, it's been consistently delicious!
Anastasia Romanoff
absolutely love this place. the service is great and the food comes really fast. have come here maybe 10-15 times and still not sick of it. recommend it for some quality food. very clean and friendly.
Bianca Roth
Great for a big mixed dumpling session with friends or just to get a plate of their Shanghai Noodles for yourself. There's also a decent amount of vegetarian options if needed.
Iyra
Decent wontons. Decent Xiao long bao. Very casual atmosphere, nice for a relaxed and cheap night out. A good staple for Kingsway, would return.
Yu Yu
Dumplings have lots of meat, and juicy, the yam noodle tastes good
It's hard to find a dish under $10, so the prices here are nice
However, the chilly sauce is not spicy at all
Minh
Food wise is average but for its price not bad at all. Dumpling is definitely the best, sometime it's so good I order 2 serves of it. Their drinks especially honey ice tea is a real hit and miss sometime.

If you're after a quick bite, this place isn't bad. Dumplings and crispy noodle seafood is my go to food at this restaurant, it may not be the best in glen but it's better then china bar.
SmokinAussie
Sorry. No photos, but to be honest not really worth the effort. Ate quickly here with the family before catching a movie.

Ordered 2 lots of Xiao Long Bao, only one arrived which was good. Really tasteless, like they forgot the broth needs seasoning. Everything else was just OK.

Honestly no reason to come back here when there is so much choice in the Glen. A little pricier than expected too.

Try other options.
Amy Davis
Don't come here if you want anything other than dumplings.
If you are starving and want food that comes out straight away and don't mind a dingy interior with no decoration then this is the place for you.
Honestly dumplings are great but you won't get much else
Michelle
Good Food Good Mood
We were walking around the restaurant strips of Glen Waverley tonight and kind of got to a point where we all went 'it's cold let's just go here' as we happened to approach Dumpling Empire. Let me just start by saying this empire is ripe for being overthrown as that was possibly the worst lemon chicken I've ever had (not even convinced it was chicken actually). Then again I'm not really sure what I expected for less than $11. My partner fared considerable better with his Mongolian beef possibly because that was more around the $20 spectrum. The fried chicken and prawn dumplings were okay but I won't forgive them for dirty cutlery. There was also absolutely no effort whatsoever put into the interiors, clearly a cheap and not so cheerful churn the people out style outfit. All I can say is I'm glad I had eaten a very late lunch as I left 95% of my meal behind. The low rating is justified, walk away people nothing to see here
Farhan Khodabux
We love this restaurant. Their vegetarian steamed dumplings are to die for with chilli oil. The Indonesian fried rice is amazing as well as the fried eggplant. We are regulars here, very reasonable prices and would recommend this to anyone.

Amazing food, excellent customer service, great atmosphere! All items on the menu are set at a reasonable price. Strongly recommended folks🤘🏻
Rana Deeran
Tried the Steamed and pan fried veggie dumpling, pan fried pork dumplings and Indonesian fried rice. Everything tastes delicious. Free slushee with food was not good.
The old Raramen ..... but it's okay.

We all been and knew about the previous business life of this venue; their offering and fines they have to pay due to food handling issues, just google it.

Anyway, the guy at the counter told me that they have a different management now, I hope so, as all table, chair, crockery, free slushy and menu are no different than its previous life.

Service is okay and foodwise, nothing wrong for what that they are charging. A little different than Raramen on the Menu, taste wise not much differ, more or less the same.

Still enjoyable and about $20-25 for two, can't really go wrong.
Mark Thompson
Great place. Pretty clean. As commented by someone else. Does taste alot like the previous returant at this location "raraman",

I usually go for house special rice or noodles and they always taste great. The pork and vegie dumplings are awesome, i also like the fried tofu and bok chuy in oyster sause.
Prices are great too. :)
Ashish Verma
Awesome chicken and prawn steamed dumplings.. 5 star rating for it
Noodle soup was good but they put too much chilli when i asked for bit spicy
Sweet and sour chicken was great ..
Great value for money
Tim Jach
Yea probably the best restaurant in the world I'm pretty sure that if I died tomorrow I would go to heaven and it would be exactly like this place. When they closed last year I cried myself to sleep every night.
T
Details: Aka raramen?! Not too sure if the company that went down hill just changed their name or new owners bought the joint but it tastes exactly the same as it did before it went down hill.
Not that that is a bad thing though... I mean the dumplings and Chinese broccoli are my go to dishes here and I have NEVER been unsatisfied with the food. Super cheap and tasty place, big meals, you won't leave this place not full!

Appearance: Pretty grubby inside. Doesn't always have a clean feel.

Service: food comes out literally straight away... I think that's the major positive about Dumpling Empire
Uteoma1000
Very yummy and great value. Good choice and selection. Staff friendly and quick service. Would go back. Good location. Good opening hours is good.
Vana
Service was great and staff were friendly but I was let down my by meal. I had the chilli beef on rice and the dish was 2/3 rice and only a little bit of meat so I felt a bit ripped off.
After reading other reviews I feel maybe dumplings are they way to go if you eat here, however looking around all other dishes were average especially compared to all of the competition in the area.
Munchk1n
Average dumpling joint, bit more expensive compared to Pings in Clayton and Aunties in Carnegie. Skip the spring onion pancake - hardly any spring onion and very doughy. Skip the five spice beef - bland. Fried pork dumplings are pretty good, as was the fried Sichuan chicken (apart from the hair we found stuck to it). Crispy duck is ok, although a little bit dry as it doesn't come with sauce. Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce was also good. Will I come back? Not anytime soon, but it's not a bad place to go if you're craving dumplings in glen waverley.
Nibble And Wander
I normally get shanghai dumplings around the corner but it was unfortunately closed and I was craving shanghai dumplings so we came here instead. Quick service, but the dumplings were rather average. A little disappointed actually as the wrappers tore so easily as you tried to pick them up with the chopsticks so you'd lose the best part of the shanghai dumpling, the broth inside where the filling was.
Hunger Pains
Didn't bother with much on the menu other than bulk dumplings. Fried Pork dumplings are yumm, lots of flavour and cooked nicely. Steamed not as good. Chilli wontons need work, Very flavourless and virtually zero chilli. Not overly cheap which it should be for what it is.
Anisha Khandelwal Baveja
A very rude lady ruined our outing with kids. Never again.
Food was decent the last time we tried it so decided to go again. But the rude and horrible service left us very upset.
Hello World!
Dumpling empire provides dishes with good values. Their dumplings were a bit larger than others, with some womboks mixed in the filling. However I found their dumpling taste a bit light. I think it's due to percentage of wombok in the mix. Speak of potion, their noodle dish was very generous. The pork and egg noodle was really good! The spicy chicken (non fried) was better than the fried ones. Overall a very good noodle place in Glen Waverley.
Joy
Very average Chinese food, better options in glen waverly. The pan fried pork buns needs to be made using yeast/self raising flour, but their recipe was using plain flour...which might be much easier for the chef but definitely not how they are meant to be. Vegetarian dumplings has certain chopped up veggies inside such as cabbage that was not fully cooked through. Fried rice cake and Xiao long baos were good though!
Michael Mammis
Great, quick service, food was tasty, portions were decent, very nice. And there is take a way. Dumplings were amazing as starters , mains were filling and quick.
Diane Schelov
I AM GLAD RARAMEN IS BACK UNDER A NEW NAME THIS PLACE DIDNT DISSAPOINT ME BEFORE AND IT DOESNT NOW.

It's packed for a reason, it serves good food, they accommodate everyone and that's the reason there's less space, unfortunately that's how business works.

Pork dumplings are amazing we loved both beef and chicken noodles, and the BoK Chou was delicious also upon our return.

The staff are not so great, I agree with this, but at the end of the day you're there for the food not the people who serve you, hospitality is a hard industry to work in especially a place that gets smashed throughout lunch and dinner, good on them for sticking through it all, and ungrateful customers who expect the world on a plate.
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
Not surprising, I came to make comparisons whether this place is just RaRamen with a new name; it's been what feels like a year since I thought about checking in the reopened venue.
Looks much different inside, and no more slushie machine! Haha!
The menu has also included items not known from RaRamen - as far as I know - which was why I ordered the crab ramen; it had 2 whole crabs, to my delight! But they didn't give me any tools to eat them gracefully, so unabashed, I ate "disgracefully"; eating with both hands and teeth to crack open claws.

The supersized dumplings were amusing, both vegetarian and pork reminiscent of RaRamen, which I didn't mind.

We were in the area tonight for a catchup session and decided to try Dumpling Empire, being one of the newer restaurants on the strip. We had not booked, but did not have much of a wait before we were seated. They haven’t been open long, but seem to have already picked up quite a bit of a crowd.

The dining area is not very small, but it is quite narrow with an open kitchen area towards the back (surrounded by glass).

The restaurant was pretty busy tonight and the staff were running off their feet. It didn’t look easy working because of how narrow the spaces were. The counter is located in the middle of the dining area, so it does get quite crowded if more than a couple tables were ready to pay.

Check out the review of Dumpling Empire in the blog post below.

Finally had the chance to visit Dumpling Empire and have no regrets! On a weekend during none peak hour, service was efficient and the venue has really been freshened up with some tender lovin' since the previous Ownership. I love watching the dumpling masters behind the glassed section of the restaurant hand making fresh dumplings!

The fried combination dumplings had awesome tender fillings with perfect al dente skin and juiciness, dress these with vinegar or chili sauce and your taste buds will thank you!

Shanghai noodles are a must- combined with enough veggies and meat, the saltiness of their sauce is addictive!

Finally the Shao Long Bao as a favorite of mine had the perfect flavor, shape and folds- a little more juice filling and they would be perfection!

Overall, An excellent local Addition : )
Foodiee
Every bowl of noodles has the same decorative ingredients i.e. carrotts, won bok, black fungus, dried tofu etc. Wonton is plain boring. Noodles itself is neither chewy nor soft and doesnt resemble any particular type of noodles... sad... what top my experience off was staff wrte quarrelling among themselves about wrong orders and why diet coke was served behind my table instead of coke zero - give me a break! One last thing, the young staff was playing his night club music in the shop from his ipod, gotta go, lol
Ayla
I know most chinese restaurants use MSG, but this is the first time that I've actually seen it in my food. Our Sichuan style spicy chicken was COVERED with these long crystals. When we asked the manager what these crystals were, she quickly said "salt". I think we all know what salt looks like...and it doesn't look like this. (Look it up) Anyway, you be the judge. MSG or no MSG, Raramen seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

By the way the food was terrible.
Benji
Shanghigh fried noodles was not a good as I was hoping. I did enjoy the steamed combo dumplings. I will probably come back but will solely stick to the dumplings.
Ellasyn
*Service = terrible from the get go.
*Menu = For a place that's called 'Dumpling Empire', you'd expect more than the amount on their menu. I was disappointed with the lack of options of actual dumplings.
*Food = shit to okay (dish dependent). No chilli/oil on tables, which seems a given at any other dumpling place I've been to.
*Ambience = the fluro lighting felt like I was dining in a hospital hallway.
*Cleanliness = well, contrary to other reviews there was no hair nets on any of the cooks heads. One of the chefs walked out of the kitchen through to dining while chewing and eating something... Great look. Surprised he didn't hock a loogie.

They also overcharged me by an extra meal which I hadn't realised until I checked menu on way out after paying... so check your calcs.

The only good thing from this place was the deep fried squid.
Prawn and chicken dumplings had no prawn, Chinese broccoli was not steamed long enough, so it was like eating raw broccoli stems.

I won't be back.
Jodie
Absolutely loved this place!!
Atmosphere was good and seating nice.
My brisket noodles were soo delicious, the meat was incredibly tender.
The fried tofu was also scrumptious.
The dumplings were delicious and the fried chicken was amazing!!!!
All the food was very reasonably priced.
Akhit Honawar
The brand new Ra Ramen! This place has absolutely turned them selves around. Before the service was terrible and the place was filthy. But I am now very impressed. The service is on point and the dumplings are spectacular! Woohoo!
Cheeseburger Anyone? "Where's The Sauce"?
Date night tonight.
Forgot to take photos.

Shanghigh fried noodles ok but not a lot of taste. Pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings not bad. Mega dumplings not bad . Chili oil on the side burnt and not nice. Would we come back? Nope.... ... .. .

Dumplings and more dumplings! Yet another newly refurbished restaurant on Kingsway and clearly my tummy cannot say no to a dumpling feast. Prices here are cheap considering the number of dumplings that you get on a plate. Albeit not over the top fantastic, it is still a pretty decent feed. Shanghai fried noodles ~ again, a decent feed for the price.

Ordered:
- Fried Prawn & Chicken Dumplings
- Steamed Combination Dumplings

Dumplings were delicious with the right amount of flour. I especially liked the prawn and chicken texture as it was very soft. Would come back!

When Bob's Kitchen changed their name to Raramen many years back, I used to joke with a friend who was a longtime fan that it was just a dodgy tax evasion tactic. I mean, they didn't even bother changing the Bob's kitchen signage on the awing above the Raramen one. Maybe it was a ploy to confuse the ATO.

I am glad to report that Dumpling Empire is not just another dodgy name change with a fresh coat of paint on the walls.

The owner has obviously invested a fair bit of capital to liven up the place. Gone is the popcorn stand used as the cashier and in it's place a proper counter stands.

A row of what looks like skylights now bath the restaurant in natural sunlight, like a side of Vitamin-D to go with your meal. I only wish the food was as vibrant as the fitout. We ordered the following

Mixed pan fried dumplings pork/vegetarian - Pretty decent. Seems to be the same quality and taste as Raramen. I wonder if they retained some of the old staff.

Xiao Long Bao - Pretty disappointed with these just by looking at them. The skin for XLB is meant to be thin and dainty, not chunky and thick.

The ones we had had skin as thick as the regular dumpling skins. I saw photos from another reviewer which looked much nicer than we ones we had. I wonder if the xlb chef just had a day off. Not too good that they are inconsisent like that.

Chicken teriyaki skewers - If there was a fictional manga/anime character where bad Japanese food was it's only weakness, you could use these chicken skewers as a stake to drive through it's heart and turn it into a pile of dust. These blasphemous teriyaki chicken skewers are the opposite of good Japanese food. Teriyaki is a Japanese seasoning right? Well to begin with, it didn't even taste like teriyaki, it had a strange vinegar taste. Secondly the chunks of chicken

were so massive it looked like they quartered a chicken thigh and threw it on the skewer. And lastly it was deep fried to the point of being overcooked. My kids wanted this item and they were warned that they had better finish it once we ordered it. I had one bite and excused them for not wanting to finish half the dish. Terrible!

Deep Fried Green Beans with Garlic - OK, sauce too gluggy and too heavy handed with the MSG. Got a second MSG dosing the following day when I took the leftovers to work.

Spring Onion Cake - These were ok. Generous in size, but if I recall correctly the ones from Raramen were better.

Steam Pork and Fish Meatballs - These were ok. Nothing special that would warrant a revisit.

Finally what's the deal with the watered down vinegar! It looks black and it smells like vinegar, but tastes like water! I am slightly concerned what they dilute it with!

I would return to buy their frozen dumplings as they are considered my local, but I doubt I would risk another sitdown meal with them. Sorry.

Service was great and so was the food. Was a little disappointed there were no beef dumplings on menu.

The renovations to the place are very nicely done as well

If you're a fan of dumplings and are not too fussed, do give 'Dumpling Empire' a try! The new management is excellent especially when the staff here are friendly and attentive. I've been here twice already and I always leave feeling satisfied. You can never go wrong with some pan fried dumplings that are hard to resist!

After some resistance on my part, we ended up at Dumpling Empire for lunch over the weekend. On a positive note, they accept credit cards. As for the rest of our experience, it was underwhelming. The Chicken and Prawn dumplings were very processed - the texture was similar to a fishball. The Pork dumpling was a lot nicer but we ended up burping all the way home.

I think this will be our first and last time at Dumpling Empire!

New joint recently open in Glen waverley. Spacious inside and well designed. Xiao long bao is juicy inside and the meat is well seasoned. Fried noodles tastes how they should just that the noodles were a bot undercooked. Pan fried dumplings were a bit watery inside and would have been nice if it were pan fried a bit more. Overall a good experience

Update: 21/3/16 - when I thought we have finally found a decent dumplings place in Glen Waverley I was wrong. We came back for the third time in 2 months the quality of the food have declined. Look like I will have to find another dumpling place around this area :(

I am glad a new dumpling place has landed in Glen Waverley.
4 of us had the following:
- Xiao Long Bao - the pastry was thin enough to see through but just right thickness to hold the soup. The taste was great not too salty.
- Spring onion pan cake - not every authentic but the taste and texture was good for a pancake
- Pan fried pork and vegetables dumplings: pastry was good, fresh, taste was good without too much MSG and not salty.
- Steamed combination dumplings: 5 pork and veggie and 5 vegetarian dumplings. Pastry were good, fresh and without too much MSG not salty.
- Pan fried pork bun - the taste were great. But I don't know why they looked like pan fried pork pancakes than buns!!! Next time please don't squish them!!!
- Shanghai fried sliced rice cake: yummy!!!

Well I guess since this place is pretty new so the dinning area was clean and service was great and didn't waited for too long for our meals.

Would be nice to see if they can maintain their service, the quality of food, and the cleanliness of their dinning area down the track :)

Keep up the good work!!!

The drinks were watered down. Dumplings were undercooked, service is fast paced and impersonal, I personally preferred ra ra ramen! There's not slushy machine too :/

Was good. Not anymore....

Below was our original review:

Best Dumplings in Glen Waverley!

Had:

Fried pork dumplings -crunchy outside, yummy inside.
Shanghai Fried noodles - homemade, perfect with a little dark vinegar (on the table).
Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings - highly enjoyable.
Fried Red bean pancake - very nice.
Service - prompt, attentive, efficient, intuitive.
Very clean, new management. Noodle/dumpling makers wearing hats etc.
