Review Muddings Bakery - Glen Waverley

One of the best traditional Black Forest cake in this area. Can’t go wrong with heights of the cake. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Honestly the best chocolate orange cake I've eaten. It's dense but impossibly fluffy. Balance of richness and perfect slight touch of citrus cream through the middle. I was planning on one slice. Things didn't go to plan.

Absolutely amazing team at Muddings. The cakes are devine. Customer service is outstanding. Thank you so much for doing my son’s birthday cake at a week’s notice. It was so delicious and everyone loved it.

I have been a long time fan of Muddings Kingsway Bakery. Ever since I was a young child I would come here for the 'Piggy Meringues". Now, as a grown adult, I still enjoy Muddings quality products. There's nothing like popping in after a long day at work for a pie. A little known fact is that they also have coffee. Something to keep in mind. Thanks Muddings!

quite an average bakery - their cakes are quite moist and soft but you can definitely find better. prices are around the same level, if not more expensive than breadtop so i would probably head there instead. good place to get a last minute bday cake if needed!

We love Muddings. All their cakes are amazing. Do yourself a favour and try the lemon tart, orange poppy seed, Black Forest and the mud cake. We’ve been getting our birthday cakes from here for over 15 years. The prices are very reasonable and the cakes are so fresh. Cath is so lovely and personable. She is so thorough when taking the cake orders and never has there been an error in the orders. We’ve asked for some very unique cakes and they’ve always come through with the goods.

I've always wondered why this bakery still existed, what with the face lift that Kingsway seems to go through every couple of years. The sign doesn't look flash. Looks a little rundown from the outside. Do people even go to bakeries anymore ?

I first had a Muddings cake for my birthday a couple of years ago. I hate black forest, but even so I could appreciate the craftsmanship.

Seal broken, I began to try some more of their products. Lemon tart, which I bought for a school event - not too tart, not too sweet, wonderfully citrus-y with a beautiful crumble base. I don't even like lemon. Gluten-free banana bread - so moist, so banana-y. Gluten-free carrot cake - same deal. Recently my family ordered a special gluten-free mud cake for my birthday. I have never tasted such a good gluten-free cake. It was basically like a regular mud cake, so much that I had to double-check with my family that it was indeed gluten-free. My friends couldn't tell the difference. And intolerances or whatever aside, it was so rich, so chocolatey and so moist.

Definitely the place to buy yourself a treat. Friendly for the gluten-intolerant too - favourite bakery hands down.

It's strange to think this was a "new" discovery for me around 2 years ago. Been living in the area for over 30 years I recall this place when I was a growing lad. Knew about it, didn't think to much about the place. Muddings. Could it be any good?

Well it's been there forever and when it's a constant amongst the ever changing Asian joints on Kingsway, that's saying something. A humble shop front and even more humble interior, but it didn't need anything else.

The apple pie is really good and has a lot of heart. It's not overly complicated but is just delicious with it's stewed apples and crispy pastry bottom and top.

The TRADITIONAL MUD is truly a treat. This has the slight twist where a thin cherry jam runs through the middle that serves two purposes: to keep the thing moist and cuts through the fudgey-ness of both the chocolate cake and ganache.

I couldn't have been any more wrong about this place and only wished I grew up along with it. Better late than never!

Only recently discovered Muddings so thankful I did. They are so friendly staff amazing and helpful. Their chicken pies are so delicious. Their decorated cakes are fantastic and very reasonable for the great quality. The small cakes, donuts, pastries, savouries are all great quality and better than any in the area. The staff go out of their way to produce anything they are able to.
Been around many years alway busy speaks for itself

A long time institution in a locality that’s seen the changes along the Kingsway strip and stood the test of time, trends and tastes. Wide selection and all the baked goods here are sensational thus why it’s still around. Always busy with old and new customers. Love their lamingtons and sticky date pudding cake. Friendly, patient and always helpful service.

My family and I have been coming here for years. It's not so local to us anymore but every time we celebrate a milestone birthday we come here for our cakes. We have known Kath for years she's a hard dedicated worker and always has the best taste in cakes that desire your special event.

I’ve been coming to Glen Waverley for years but have only found this hidden gem recently. Small, yet busy bakery with a lot of selection - ranging from cakes, to pies, to baked goods.

The first time I came, I was trying to find a birthday cake for my boyfriend. The girl who served me was very helpful and patient as they had quite a selection of cakes to choose from and I couldn’t decide. I eventually decided to go with the black forest cake, and I also picked up a vanilla slice and an apple slice.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed the black forest cake, as well as the vanilla slice and apple slice. The cake was very moist and wasn’t overly sweet, like the cakes you would get from other cake shops. The sweetness was perfectly balanced.
The vanilla slice was also done well. The pastry was good and they were quite generous with the filling, and it also wasn’t sickly sweet.
My boyfriend enjoyed the apple slice more than me, as it was more on the tart side than sweet. But having said that, I didn’t mind it and would still order it again.

The second time I visited, I ordered a vanilla slice, apple slice, jam donut and hedgehog slice. The vanilla slice and apple slice were consistent with last time. The jam donut was a bit too dry and hard for my liking but did get better once microwaved. While, the hedgehog slice was our least favourite as it was more cakey than fudgey. Most likely wouldn’t get the jam donut and hedgehog slice again.

Would love to try their pies next time though!

There is always a line every time I come around, which I think would be a great sign. (Everyone always seem to be carrying huge boxes too every time) Not a big fan of coconut myself, but I love getting their lamingtons, which is the best I’ve had so far. Their savoury pastries however weren’t as good. Pastry was a bit too hard, just dry overall. Have also tried some tarts and mud cake, they were just alright.
Sunny Days Melbourne
Super busy bakery with tonnes of choices. Reasonably priced cakes but slightly too much cream for my taste. Muddings has been around for a very long time and it's always full of people so they must be doing something right! This time around we bought their brandy snap torte which was tasty and creamy.

Delicious fruit tarts and lemon tart. Wide range of baked goods with breads, cookies, tarts, cakes, pies etc. everything is old school, down to earth, tastes amazing. Had to control myself from buying everything in this shop! Prices are so cheap too. Local gem.

Yummy cakes and had a chocolate mudcake. Not too sweet and the cake is compressed and a decent size. Glazing is smoothe and topped with a strawberry and chocolate rolls woth chocolate shavings on the bottom.

A change of taste from asian foods sometimes is needed - a wholesome sandwich or pie is all you want! I have recently also learnt their Lamingtons are the best near and far. Soft, tall, fluffy sponge with a very thin jam spread in the middle and real chocolate and coconut sprinkles on the outside.

My wife was the lucky recipient of a delicious red velvet cake from Muddings for her birthday. It was quite dense and full of chocolate flavour and the perfect finish to her birthday celebrations. Even better the next day out of the fridge. The frosting is often my favourite part but in this instance the cake shone through.
The Whippeteers
Superb CHOCOLATE & VANILLA CAKE! Delicious vanilla slices.

THE BEST CAKES in the area! New favourite is the Orange Poppy Seed cake.

Ps readers of "The Whippeteers" reviews may remember we CANNED the coffee here as UNDRINKABLE a few months ago, and it probably still is terrible. So just stick to the bread/cakes and avoid the coffee, hey!
Sia
The cakes here are just great! Always come here for birthday cakes as they are fluffy and light, allowing to enjoy more serves! The proces are affordable and the cakes are allowed to be modified for a little extra. Would recommend to anyone who wants an almost a home-made feel whilst also having a more fancier cake.

Absolutely love the chocolate rum cake. We bought it for my sister's birthday and it was perfect!! Not too moist but not too sweet at the same time. Good service as well. Overall , would highly recommend checking this place out

Best cakes in the area! I can't help but pop in every couple of days to treat myself to something new! However most of the time I can't help but end up getting their amazing vanilla slices!!
Picked up a cake for a 50th birthday and only have good things to say. The staff were patient and understanding and very friendly. The cake itself was just divine. This is going to be my go to cake shop moving forward.

Lovely friendly staff and delicious (and very well priced!) sweets and cakes. My go-tos: lemon slice, sticky date pudding, apple pie, red velvet cakes and their mince pies come Christmas time.

When I was a child, my parents would always buy my birthday cake from here, and over the years it has remained a favourite. Beautiful cakes that look and taste wonderful- excellent for special occasions. Also a wide variety of simpler cakes and tarts and desserts for 'everyday' treats. A wonderful local bakery that has maintained high standards for a long time.

Daughter from sydney. I organized a cake over the phone for my mum's 80th birthday as I live in sydney. They delivered it to the venue for me. It was perfect! Fantastic decoration, so fresh and great tasting. Everyone commented how great it was. highly recommended.

Most amazing red velvet cakes and cupcakes!. These are a must for any red velvet lover!! Ordered a cake to feed a 70 person birthday and not a crumb was left! No one even bothered with all the other cakes there and everyone kept commenting on how great it was! Very affordable and great service.
Will always buy from here :)

Marbled Mud Cake for 70th Birthday. Muddings made a Marbled Mud Cake for my Mum's 70th birthday. It was delicious. Everyone commented on the cake and asked where I got it from. Would highly recommend Muddings and also their staff who were very helpful in suggesting what to get for the cake. I went with James's recommendation for the cake and he was spot on. Mum loved the cake and so did all the guests. Well done.

Coffee is not their strong suite. Lovely cakes, terrible coffee. Couldn't finish it. I don't know whether it is the milk, the coffee or the sweetener. It was bad! Great cake and pies though.

Fantastic!!!!!. I ordered a birthday cake for my girlfriends 30th. Placed the order over the phone. The guy was very helpful as I know very little about cakes tbh. Everything went perfectly. Very reasonably priced. Everyone at the party loved it and I had a number of people asking me where I got it so they could use the place in the future.

All in all I would highly recommend!

What a great place!. The owner of this bakery (Cath) is an example for all in small business to learn from. Having grown up in Glen Waverley (in the 60's and 70's!!), and after reading the positive reviews for this bakery on urbanspoon, I rang through an order from interstate on the off-chance that I could get a cake delivered same day to my elderly father with terminal cancer on his birthday. It couldn't have been better...the cake arrived as promised soon after lunch, hand delivered by Cath's husband to the unit in the retirement village in which my parents live, beautifully packaged and presented, and on all accounts was a real delight to eat. Thank you very much for your wonderful cake and all the service you gave to make this a special day for my father. I look forward to visiting Muddings for a coffee and cake on my next visit to Melbourne.
