Review Cafe 1809 - Glen Waverley

Dom Piet
Good service and good food. Coffee and chai were great! But, the big breakfast came with one slice of toast so we asked for another and they charged $4 for it. You can buy a loaf for that much! Otherwise it was a nice experience. I hope they read this and include 2 slices with the big breakfast just like other cafes do.

A hidden gem on an unassuming small street. The Benedict was the stand out meal - the eggs were crumbed to perfection and the roti was magical. The French toast was also amazing. Super friendly service as well.

Undoubtedly the most amazing coffee. We end up ordering two cups of both Cappuccino and flat white And it was a great smashed avacado/ I love the fact that they spread smashed avacado on both slice of sourdough with sides of halloumi stick which was great . I want to visit them again for Benedict or French toast again Menu had good Varieties

Eggselent Benedict. Perfect eggs with crunchy crumb, flaky rotti, mushrooms a delight and spinach lightly flavoured from chilli oil. Delsih. Coffee excellent and staff were really nice and accommodating for us with our baby. So good we drove back 1/2hr in 2 days time for another fix.

A small cafe hidden in residential streets. Lovely staff, and quick service. Food were well executed.

Busy place but the service still remains good enough considering the amount of customers they have to serve. Food is good, coffee is on point. I got their signature Benedict with roti, and extra pulled pork. Roti with benedict is definitely different but I can see why it's their signature dish! I recommend this place. ⭐️

A must visit for brunch lovers! Highlight was the soft shell crab burger with the eggs Benedict a close second! Would definitely recommend you visit this neighbourhood gem!

I am lucky that these guys are just around the corner from home but would recommend finding heading over to 1809! The breakfasts are so good and their coffee is my absolute favorite!! Also the staff are super friendly. I highly recommend 1809cafe.

Had the grainy salad with chicken! So crunchy and yummy. My taste buds were infused with various flavors and textures of the salad, while the crab burger was to die for! Thumbs up to the Poke bowl where East and West came together in harmony! The staff were friendly and the coffee is the best! Coming back to try the brekky!

Oh yummy!! What interestingly different & yummy food!! A wonderful asian style incorporated into the traditional breakfast. Hubby had the Cashew Cheesecake with pistachios & gogi berries, this was delicious & perfect to eat on a warm summer morning, refreshing, cool, yummy! I had the Panko crusted eggs, mushrooms, spinach ON A ROTI (wow), &i must say i loved the chiili splashed about! I've never eaten chilli with my breakfast but this was deeeeelicious. I have recommended a number of friends including someone who carries a chilli to eat with his scrambled eggs, so this should be perfect. Love also that you opened a cafe in Willow Ave, bringing cafe life back to our neighbourhood.

Probably one of the best breakfast I’ve ever had.... Congrats guys will definitely be back. Nestled in the the back streets but definitely worth the visit!!!

The staff were lovely and so was the food. Coffee, I'll have to give it another chance as it was OK. Really great though to have a great local cafe!

Greatest breakfast the world has ever known. Pay double... PAY TRIPLE.

What a great find in a little shopping strip in Glen Waverley! Our Grandson took us there for a delightful lunch. The soft shell crab burger was delicious. Thank you for a delightful lunch experience in suburbia.

1809 is a nice little Melbourne style cafe tucked near Glendal Primary School. They serve some Melbourne classics and have a great atmosphere and friendly staff. They also do some of the best coffee around! Would highly recommend if you are on the go or want to sit down and have a slow catch up.

However, pricey for a broccoli salad which only had ... broccoli and some greens. Don’t recommend that dish for $15.

Cosy breakfast spot if you’re looking to get away from central glen to a more quiet spot with easier parking - the coffee and açai bowl were my favourites and possibly the best I’ve had in a while. Great small business to be supporting!

wasn’t going to write a review but saw this place on zomato gold and so glad we tried it 💖 had the acai bowl, soft shell crab burger and the chilli scrambled eggs.

🍓 açai bow had lots of nuts and fruit and was a super generous portion

🦀 soft shell crab burger was hands down the best thing, crispy crab and the fresh slaw with a really soft bun plus a mountain of fries

🌶 chilli scrambled eggs were large too and had lots of fried shallots !!

+ they gave us a plate of breads after our meal and despite the big portions we still had room for them and they were deliciously crunchy on the outside and warm in the inside definitely recommend the carrot cake here !!

will be back again soon, so glad we tried this cafe :))

Average food. Burnt toast. Spinach is way too salty.

I stumbled across this gorgeous cafe while looking for somewhere to have brunch with the family, and I'm so glad that we picked Cafe 1809. From the outset the staff were welcoming and lovely, and our coffee was delivered to us promptly. We perused the menu and found it to have some interesting choices that were a little different than typical cafe offerings.

The cafe itself is spacious and light filled, and nicely decorated with comfortable furniture. The coffee was delicious, and our food was amazing. We had a mushroom dish that came served with flatbreads and a crumbed egg. It was fantastic, with a creamy and tasty sauce; and the flatbread was a great alternative to the usual sourdough.

The savoury French toast was sensational. Crispy and golden, with a real cheesy crust; a poached egg added texture and creaminess. This was exceptionally executed and definitely worth ordering.

Finishing up with the crowd favourite, the pancakes were delicious and fluffy and served with heaps of fruit and coulis. It didn't take long for us to devour this tasty dish, and it certainly left us with a smile on our faces.

1809 is a fabulous cafe delivering quality food full of flavour, with friendly service in a space with a relaxed vibe. We can't wait to go back to sample more of their delicious food.

My almond latte’s milk is definitely not fresh. One of those where if a barista had heaps of leftover in their pitcher then they add a bit more to reheat it to serve their next coffee.

I also had the French Toast prosciutto. This dish is too confusing. First, my French Toast is just an oregano loaded garlic bread soaked in butter. Nothing eggy at all about my toast, bed with celeriac purée (way too sweet) + 2 small pieces of deep fried dried up prosciutto + 2 poached runny eggs (the only thing I like on this dish) + 1/4 of a mushroom + plates covered up with Parmesan cheese. No texture, too much going on, un-match flavor. Definitely not a French Toast. Unsure what the chef is trying to do but definitely not on par with your American French Toast with Bacon & maple syrup sort of style if that’s what you are looking for.

Actually wanted juice with my meal & to try some of their croissant (pistachio & cranberry croissant looks amazing) to takeaway but too put off by the food & coffee that I just don’t want to take anymore risk.

Nice, quaint little cafe good for a lazy Sunday morning. Love the chai here. Had the pulled pork eggs Benedict and enjoyed having roti instead of the usual bread. The poached eggs are fried too, which was a pleasant surprise. The big breakfast was pretty good too. The food are quite a sizable portion and we felt really full. Would definitely come back if I’m in the area.

One of the best cafes in Melbourne! The owners here are also super lovely and helpful in choosing the dishes that suit your taste! A must visit if you are in the area! The food just gets better every time I come back! I highly recommend their cashew bowl! You will be shocked at how good it tastes!

the child loves the babycino!😘💕Food is in great portion.
will certainly cone back for the service and atmosphere!

Very small cute place with great service! W had the Cuban, French Toast and the Crab Burger. The Cuban was alright, wasn't bad but wasn't amazing either. The French Toast was the first savoury French Toast I've ever had it was amazing. It was super tasty and very soft, it felt like it melted in my mouth every bite. Sweet French Toast is usually too sweet for my liking, so this savoury one was definitely a win for me.
The burger was very unique and tasty. Overall it was a great meal and would come back again.

Lovely cafe tucked away... we came here for a catch up and talked for ages. The coffee was good. We enjoyed the soft shell crab burger with peanut butter which was delicious. We also enjoyed the house made granola with fresh berries and pannacota. It came in a huge serving and was not only tasty, but refreshing.

Yay!!!
Most delicious breakfast I ever had, everything was cooked perfectly!!! Congratulations Chef!!!
The cappuccino is exactly how I like it, perfect temperature. The staff is very kind and friendly as well. Overall, you guys deserve really 5 star rating!!! Well done. Highly recommended for everyone!!!

Superb service!! Had such a scrumptious meal here that was both delicious and value! The scrambled eggs were especially creamy and the portion size of the Soft Shell Crab burger was very generous. Will definitely be back for more

Parking is very easy as there are lots of area in front of the cafe. Wish they have more lightings in-house as it was a bit dark for us on a cloudy day visit. The acai bowl was sooo pretty and full of fruit and toppings. The sweet potato chips were crunchy and not oily at all! The chicken avo toastie was yummy with a generous amount of avo.

Portion size at this cafe is bigger than usual, great for sharing. Sharing is caring afterall.

Polite staff, love the vibes and the food is so amazing! A great spot, the coffee is on point! Super busy in peak times but definitely worth going

My friends and I ordered three Benedicts, and they were all beautiful presented and almost identical. The photo does not do it justice. The flavours were absolutely spot on; I loved how well the chilli and roti worked with the classic eggs benny flavours. If you're wondering what to order, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!!!

The only faults were that the cutlery and glasses weren't fully clean, and the waiter forgot our coffee order and had to check again. The staff were super friendly and apologetic though!

C: The baristas here really make good coffee. The staff were all extremely friendly and the atmosphere felt very upbeat. The Benedict was so good with the panko crumbed eggs, hollandaise and delicious roti. The French toast was light, fluffy and had a well balanced amount of flavour. The presentation had my mouth watering. Originally, I was just passing by the area but now I’m super glad that I stopped at the cafe for brunch.

It's a lovely little cafe hidden in the middle of suburbia, the parking is convenient and easy to find. Interior design is simple modern, and it feels good and cozy. Service was prompt and so friendly!
We ordered benedict with smoked salmon rillette. Their roti with sriracha hollandaise sauce and chili oil was really great. Panko crumbed eggs were seasoned well and increased the taste. The big breakfast was also satisfying with crisp sweet potato rosti. Nice ambience with good coffee and it's really relaxing!

I usually never write reviews, but I felt like I had to for this particular place. Cafe 1809 is a quaint cafe located in a nice neighbourhood. I didn’t expect anything special, considering I mostly eat out in the city areas. It was a cold day and the tables were all full, so my friend and I sat outside to wait (which we didn’t mind). We were surprised by staff who were kind to give us warm blankets and water. The service and food of this cafe was exceptional and beyond what I thought I’d find in such a quiet area. The price range is also relatively affordable. Sadly, I live very far from the cafe and will probably not come back any time soon. But in the off chance, I really hope I can eat here again.
Kay Alexander
the service is friendly, the seats are comfy and the food is delicious. I’ve had breakfast here a few times now and it’s consistently good.
Overall very well presented.
Daisy
My blueberry hotcakes were yummy with lots of fresh toppings, and very filling. The pana cotta definitely passed the jiggly test but it was on the smaller side which meant the granola mix was a bit dry to eat. The savoury poke bowl was nicely balanced. The flavour of the wasabi salmon was interesting and unique. My beetroot latte unfortunately didn’t taste very much like beetroot and almost a little like the turmeric latte (perhaps they didn’t clean thoroughly after making the turmeric latte).
The service was efficient and friendly, and the cafe is spacious and welcoming with lots of light.
Lara Lia
Great service, food was very nice and generous portion! Cafe was small and very aesthetic! The guy (who I assume was the owner) was very friendly! Definitely recommend to go here if you want a good place to eat and talk with small group of people

Loved having brunch here! The extensive menu made it hard to choose just one thing but the staff were really lovely and helped make a choice. In the end I went with the French toast and it was the lightest, French toast I've every had! It was light and fluffy without being too rich and the fact that it was savoury made it even better! Will definitely go back to try other items on the menu.

1809 is a great place for catchups where you can have conversations without shouting over noise while having decent coffee. Menu is pretty ordinary but the place is nice and relaxing and the service is tops. Ample parking out front and in the neighbourhood.

Came to try because of the high reviews. Although the customer service was exceptionally good, the food was painfully dismal. The poached eggs were dry. I needed a hacksaw to cut through the bread which was far from fresh. The food took over 50mins for a simple eggs Benedict and a couple of smashed Avos.
Coffee was average. The ricotta hot cakes however was really good.

Beautiful quiet little cafe in a street area, really like that. Not full of people. Not entirely empty too! Has a small amount of people, but I really love the peaceful atmosphere.
The design is amazing. Love the chairs, tables, walls. I went on a sunny day, so the sunshine lit up the room perfectly. Really cool, how the counter, the walls are unique with little shelves and flowers, plants. Especially the grass on the wall, outside with the chairs. It was perfect.
Food was great! I don't brunch often, but this place has instaworthy food, well garnished and decoration. Tastes real good, flavour is adjusted just right.
Experience. The staff was very kind, very patient and very friendly.
Price isn't too high either. Nowhere near the $20+ per plate of food at most places.
Highly highly recommend trying out at least once.
Cathleen
really love this place. the food was beautiful. the toast and sandwich were really good. They offered a big service really!!!It is a quiet place for friends meet-up though.

This is a cute little cafe hidden inside the lush sunburn of Glen Waverly. There is a row of car park in front of the cafe, if u do unfortunately ran out of parking, there is still on street parking available in the neighbourhood. The cafe do not have too many tables, hence not too crowded, making the experience very relaxing. They have an interesting selection of dishes in their menu, but they do not change their menu routinely. Food range from average to above average in my opinion.

I didn't know there's a hidden gem in Glen Waverley! There's nothing quite special from the menu, they all seem like a standard dishes that any cafe would sell. But oh boy, they taste really good! I personally like the savoury french toast! They offer a great service too!
Chii
Food was great. Interesting Eggs benedict but the salmon is way too off as a combination with it. The French Toast is soft and tasty. Coffee was great.

Price was pretty decent and cheaper than other brunch places.

Wait for food is about 15 mins. Service was alright.

There’s only a minimal seats so when it’s busy, would probably need to line up.

I’ve always heard great things about 1809cafe in Glen Waverley so I was excited to visit. Firstly, parking was so easy and convenient and the service was awesome! We had a variety of dishes, savoury and sweet and was impressed by every dish! Absolutely loved the Eggs benedict on a roti which I thought was so clever. And you have to try the cheesecake bowl with fruits if you ever come here, it was PERFECT 👌🏼 I can’t wait to come back to try their other dishes. Thanks so much for having us x

1809 Cafe is located in a small group of shops on Willow Avenue in Glen Waverley. With a very suburban location, it’s a beautiful, minimalist space which is inviting & relaxing. The featured artwork on the back wall has been made with coloured sea sponges, very creative & a lovely touch to the cafe.

It was a hot day so we started with iced coffees which were perfectly refreshing.
The menu is impressive with some Asian influences & we chose a few dishes to share.

The poké bowl was so fresh & vibrant. We chose the wasabi salmon & it was delicious. The bowl was filled to the brim with brown rice, pumpkin, avocado, cabbage, sesame kale & sriracha. I love a good nourish bowl & this had a nice combination of fresh & cooked ingredients.

The benedict was served with panko crumbed eggs, smoked salmon rillette sriracha hollandaise, mushrooms & spinach on a chilli roti. A very unique twist on a benedict with some strong flavours & a decent kick of chilli.

We finished with the cashew cheesecake bowl. This was such a gorgeous bowl of goodness & one for vegans & non vegans to enjoy. Loads of fresh fruit & goji berries with a really creamy base, we both loved the flavours in this dish.

I loved the tranquil vibes & interior of 1809, not what you’d expect in its location. The food was impressive & the service was fast & friendly, a great brunch spot to check out if you’re in the area. Thanks so much for having us.

4.0

Spacious and modern interior. Prompt and friendly service.

The Panana chai masala is spiced with a nutty taste thst has a smoothe consistency.

Both dishes are generous in serving size.

Blueberry ricotta hotcakes is vibrant and appealing to the eyes. Symmetrical and well laid out. The mascarpone compliments the hot pancakes with the fresh berries adding a tangy taste. The rice bubbles and pistachio crumble adds crunch to the dish.

Softshell crab burger is placed in a large seeded bun and filled with crispy asian slaw and sriracha mayo. For the potato lovers, majority of the plate is filled with crispy shoestring fries.

Absolutely love this cafe! The place is spacious which makes it kid and family friendly and they have outside seating which is also pet friendly. The food is always amazing and the staff are very friendly!
Highly recommend to anyone in the area

This is quite possibly my favourite eggs benny in Melbourne! With crumbed eggs, roti and sriracha hollandaise, this combination of flavours is both exhilarating and exciting to my taste buds. Their chips were also amazing - crispy and well seasoned. Will definitely be back soon to order the eggs benny again!

Best apple pie ever.
Hidden away in the suburbs this cafe has some great food it's very loud. Great coffee and the grilled lamb was good full of flavor. The pictures and the menu are very different
Pakco
I ordered a big breakfast, which is not big , only 4 pieces of. Chopped mushrooms , 1/4 avocado?! But the coffee is really good! Definitely not coming back!!
SJFU
Perhaps it’s the high standard of Melbourne’s breakfast scene, but I found the food to be mostly quite plain, in a way that makes you go ‘hmm I could just make this at home’ . The savoury French Toast was decent. Extra star for the nice and attentive service however!

I have to admit, this was one of the most interesting (in a good way) cafe experience I have had so far.
When we first arrive, the cafe was packed but we were greeted with friendly service and they seated us at a temporary table while we wait for seats to be available.
Sadly we met with rude customers who were done with their meals but refused to change tables or leave despite knowing we have been waiting for their table (for half an hour) and we had two hungry kids with us.
Luckily when we finally had our table and ordered our food, the staff were quick to apologize for the long wait and served us promptly. They even gave the kids complimentary babychinos for the long wait with decorated smiley faces. (The kids were happy after that)
The food was very delicious, as we ordered the French toast and soft shell crab burger. (Didn’t manage to take photos as the kids were really hungry and started eating the food immediately)
The fries they served with the burger were amazing 😋 and all the tables too around us ordered it individually as a side. Their French toast dish was interesting too as it was a savory dish with mushrooms rather than the typical sweet French toast dishes.
Would 100% return as they have good food, coffee and service 😊 this is definitely my brunch of the year so far!!
Pav Arneja
Checked out this place on grand final day and we weren’t disappointed! The pancakes were delightful, not too sweet but sweet enough to cure the cravings along with the fresh fruit. The roti and fritters were delicious too! Will def be back here! Coffee and service was on point too!
Littlemissyh
A quiet brunch place in Glen Waverley and friendly staff. The chai I had was a little watered down but the eggs Benedict I had with the roti was not bad, nice touch of chilli.

One of the most important things about a cafe is the memorable and friendly staff.
I had the most wonderful experience from the staff that were serving today and I can’t wait to go back and have my yummy fulling food again 🥞🥞🥞
(Would easily recommended this place to anyone in the area)

Lovely little cafe in the middle of suburbia. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We tried :
The Roti Benedict: nice hit of chilli and loved the crumbed eggs. The only disappointment was the lack of salmon in the dish. I could barely find any. But great flavours. 8/10
The Cuban: perfectly toasted , cheesy and meaty goodness!
Chips : great portion size with a nice mayo
Nutella Milkshake: large milkshake but $11 was a bit too pricy. The doughnut and chocolate sauce on the outside of the glass is unnecessary!
Will be back to try the French toast( it looked yum)
Lovely cafe tucked away in the quiet set of shops at Willow Ave, 1809cafe is serving up seriously delicious and inventive brunch dishes.
I particularly loved their Roti Benedict which had a great mix of textures and flavours from the crispy eggs to the unexpected chilli sauce. Their pannacotta is super pretty but just wish it came with some milk or other liquid to help with all the granola.

Staff were absolutely lovely, it was completely full when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon so we waited about 20 mins for a table (which we were happy to do) but they were so apologetic and gave us our coffees for free which was such a nice touch.

Highly recommend checking them out in the Glen Waverley area! You can use the Entertainment Book here too under its old name Little Willow Cafe.

Great hidden place with beautiful interior
Ordered:
Chai Latte: ($9.00)
Benedict: with Smoked Salmon Rillette, Panko crumbed eggs, Sriracha hollandaise, Sauteed mushrooms & Spinach on a chilli roti ($19.00)

Review:
The chai and fried wedges were great. Chai was incredibly flavourful and I got 3 decent pours out of it. The wedges were an alternative to the typical chips. The chill of the sourcream and sweet chilli complemented the grittiness of the wedges well - making it a lovely snack.

The concept of a roti and panko crumbed eggs is similar to the one I've had at Sir Charles. The Sir Charles benedict features a fluffier roti and a more crispier fried egg, but it does miss the kick of the chilli oil that is dotted around 1809's take on the dish.
I do like my dishes spicy!

Service was engaging, interior was absolutely lovely. A green nature wall encompasses the back wall whilst a shining of natural light wraps itself around the front of the cafe. Great almost hidden place in the middle of suburbia.

It's too far out for me to go twice, but it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. :)

Great coffee and friendly staff!! But I was a little disappointed in my hot cake. They came to the table about 5 mins after Husbands meal was delivered and was pretty on the plate but were only just warm which was a shame as it’s a super cold hailing Melbourne (💛) morning and I was looking forward to my HOT cakes. They had a drizzle of maple and a very small dab of cream on top but overall I found them quite dry. Maybe a little more of each so there was enough for every mouthful, or a citrus curd would have made it special. Husband had the big brekkie which was yum but fairly standard. Overall, not a bad place, just far from my fav in this day and age where the choices of spectacular are everywhere!!
Karina J
Cute cafe in the middle of the Glen Waverley suburbs. The staff are friendly and coffee had good flavour and was well made. I look forward to returning and trying the food!
Corgi The Foodie
First time at this cafe. We love the Eggs Benedict - it was interesting to have a fusion dish with roti and chilli oil as brekkie and top with a small side of salmon and really good hollandaise sauce. Yum! The bun was ok. Coffee was good but not hot enough. Interesting experience and good to try if you like something different!
Kiffdcosta
We waited about 20 mins to get our orders taken- & it wasn’t super busy/the people next to us just sat down and got served before us, so I’m not sure if they forgot about us?? Food didn’t take too long to come out after that- I only got the carrot cake which was ok, but had some of my friends potato Rosti & it was a bit weird- not crunchy, just soggy. Chai was good tho 👍🏻
KathBick
What a hidden gem! Discovered this cafe while walking near Glendal Primary School. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast. Interesting menu. I had French Toast with poached eggs - lovely. Friendly service. Nice ambience with lots of natural light. Cheap coffee - only $3.50 for regular coffee.

Nice cafe that is in the quiet area of Glen Waverley. Parking was easy. Nice interior, staff are friendly, very interesting menu with lots of gluten free option. Had their chai latte and the spices was a bit strong for me. Their fries are quite nice, and i had this dish which has toast, some cabbage salad with asian dressing, egg and chili oil. I thought chili oil would be weird mixed with those stuff so I requested it to be separated from the rest. I didnt use the chili oil much because it was already tasty without. Very happy with my visit.
Edited:
Visited again, this time I had benedict, it was soo nice with the flaky roti instead of bread. It wasnt a big meal but more than enough for me. The chili oil wasn’t really needed and was a bit too spicy for the dish so I didnt touch it. Staff are very lovely and didnt rush us out eventhough we sat there for ages.

Great little cafe in suburbia. Tucked away in Glen Waverley. Great decor, great coffee and a delicious menu. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
First time visiting this cute little place was on the queens birthday and the only downer I had was the 15% surcharge. Service was otherwise super friendly and the food was deliciously prepared and plated. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here!

1809 cafe - willow street, Glen Waverley!! 🌸🌸🌸 whilst coming here to catch up with an old friend, I realised that this cafe is was only a 4 minute drive from my house!! It’s in an odd area, where there are a couple of shops but you wouldn’t expect a cute brunch place to be so tucked away! I ordered the famous Benedict with smoked salmon rillette and my friend ordered the soft shell crab burger! Both were amazingg. The roti was cooked very well and complimented the eggs very well. I liked the sriracha holladaise a lot (yum yum). The soft shell crab burger was also very good. A strong and evident crab flavour intertwined with the slaw and fluffiness of the sesame bun, made it a very enjoyable mouthful. The fries were SO CRISPY and went very well with the burger. Overall, very good service and very good food! Would come again considering the proximity from my house

Great location, cute venue, picture perfect food. But the granola with panacotta was really dry (needed yoghurt or something) and my friend paid $4 for half a sweet potato rosti (are you kidding?!) on the side of her scrambled eggs.
Chef seems to be ticking the Instagram box, but not much else.

We were definitely in the mood when we arrived at this cafe with 90's and RNB tunes playing as we walked inside. This cafe is a little hidden away so is enjoyed regularly by locals. Featured here is the blueberry ricotta hotcakes which was beautiful. We found staff at this cafe to be super friendly and respectful which helped contribute to our positive experience at this cafe.

Yummy yummy salmon poke bowl. Seriously yummy, plus a bit more yummy. I've only been during the week when it's quieter but that teamed with the concrete & grey interior makes me feel sad. Lost points there for me.

I've finally had a chance to visit this wonderful cafe located within a quiet strip of shops in suburbia.

I ordered the benedict with salmon rillette, panko crumbed eggs, chilli roti, mushrooms and spinach. My friend ordered the egg and bacon bun with Vietnamese slaw and peanut butter dressing.

The dishes were presented beautifully. The panko crumbed eggs were seasoned well and oozed with yolky delight. The roti was a great change from toast and the chilli oil was a welcomed addition. The mushrooms and spinach helped cut through the richness of the dish. I would have liked a wedge of lemon to go with the salmon for a bit of citrus freshness. The egg and bacon bun received equally positive review. The only feedback was that it needed more of the peanut butter dressing.

Service is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended for a visit. Plenty of parking and pram friendly.
The.Top.Lifestylee
The cafe had a lovely vibe and friendly staff. The drink we got was disgusting. Meant to be a chai milkshake but had a horrible flavour didn’t even finish it and an expensive price. The dish we got was nice but tiny portion and overpriced again, it was an avocado dish with barely any avocado for $19. Also the hotcake was nice but again small and pricey. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

This is a quiet, modern cafe situated right in the middle of a block of suburbia. They serve tasty, interesting fusion food and good coffee in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

You feel like you've stumbled upon a local secret every time you go. It has never been busy enough to wait for a table, and sitting outside is lovely as the area is quiet. The staff are friendly, and attentive, and clearly have fun making coffee. The food is not your typical brunch fare - classics with an asian twist. The eggs benedict with roti is a definite standout. The smashed avo (with togaroshi) and chilli scrambled eggs are also delicious. For lunch, the softshell crab burger is a winner.

I frequently visit this restaurant and for good reason. It is a really cosy brunch location with good food and good vibes.
Definitely give the French toast a go !

Definitely a spot for the locals (or adventurers). Hidden in the housing area is a nice little brunch cafe!

The servings are definitely huge in comparison to your average brunch spot. We got the delicious toasted sandwich, soft shell crab burger and a side of sweet potato fries topped off with smashed avo (literally the best combo ever).

The atmosphere is nice and relaxing although we were not happy when the aircon was turned off and it was 36 degrees outside. It seemed like they wanted people to start leaving which isn’t the best feeling on a relaxing weekend.

Nice cafe in suburban Glen Waverley. Service was friendly although they were understaffed but the food came out quickly. You can tell that they put in an effort into presentation of the food. I had the eggs benedict - the eggs were encrusted in panko crumbs and doused in sriracha hollandaise. The yolks were runny and the outside was crunchy. That takes skill. The roti was crispy, thin and buttery. There was some chilli oil around the plate which added another layer of flavour to the dish. The smoked salmon rilette was smoky in flavour and added a nice savoury aspect to this dish. Interestingly enough the flavours did work together although I was skeptical at first. My partner had the house made granola with fruit and blueberry panacotta which was fresh and delicious with different textures. We will be back to try other dishes.

1809 is a very beautiful cafe in the back streets of Glen Waverley. Its location may be a disadvantage but the beauty and service of this cafe, makes up for it.

Service- really friendly staff. Loved to watch them dance to the music while making coffee/ just chatting amongst themselves. It was easy to see that they were having fun too. Service was also really quick and wonderful all up.

Coffee- really strong, really nice and smooth. Their coffee beans are amazing and I will be back for more coffee.

Food- ordered the chilli eggs and Benedict. Wasn’t a fan of the chilli eggs. Found them a bit too greasy and they significantly lacked flavour. Was also weird being served negligible amount of oyster mushrooms especially when it was a major part of the dish.

The Benedict on the other hand was great. I have never been served that with roti so it was a unique twist.

Visit 2

Visited this cafe for mothers again and quite honestly loved it!

I would recommend trying their French toast, my fav dish on the table! The hot cakes were great but a bit dry.

Enjoyed my visit here, was very quiet but was pleasantly surprised with the variety of food options and the quality, it is fairly priced and staff are friendly.

I really enjoyed my experience and the food was pretty good! I have been to this cafe before and I have seen it improve from my last visit! The coffee was done well and I loved my smoothie bowl which I ordered. I would love to come again!

Went here for a late brunch after finding out about this place on google and realising it was in my area.

First impressions:

- limited menu choices (they should upload it to Zomato so people can see)

- very friendly staff

TimTam had the Ricotta Hotcakes and a Latte. Hotcakes were tasty and flavoursome (albeit could be too sweet for some people), with lots of blueberries inside the Hotcakes themselves. They were real berries, not an artificial paste by the looks of it. Serving size was more than sufficient, and therefore the price of $19 is reasonable. Coffee is good, a bit weak for my liking but this comes down to a matter of preference.

Overall, a great brunch spot in Glen Waverley, a “hidden gem” by all accounts. Would recommend and return.

The food and service here was not bad at all, the croissants were good and the cuban sandwich was very filling (albeit very salty). The cherry ripe milkshake however was very bland, and didnt resemble a cherry ripe in any way shape or form.

Lovely place, friendly team and great food and coffee / matcha latte! Managed to make my friends share their food with me because their food looked absolutely amazing (as did mine). French Toast was made perfectly, the Cashew Cheesecake bowl was just the right amount of sweet and the Blueberry Ricotta Hot Cake - my fave! Highly recommend!!

This Cafe never fails to impress!
Great coffee, service and food. The interesting menu (not just your typical Cafe menu) makes it a struggle to decide but this is easily resolved by coming back. Would recommend the eggs Benedict on roti - my favourite so far!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱 Lizzie's first impression: Who would have thought a cafe situated in the humble streets of Glen Waverly would have been this amazing. The decor of the place is definitely 'instaworthy'. I loved the stone benches which gave the cafe a rustic yet modern feel.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I loved the roti benedict. The sauce matched well with the smoked salmon rilette and delicious panko crumbed eggs.
The hotcakes looked amazing and they sure gave a generous amount!

🍅 Lizzie did not enjoy: Although this is my preference, they didn't add any sweeteners to my matcha latte, but despite this, it was a fairly good one.

🥇 Lizzie rates overall: The staff are super friendly and always checked to see how we were going, despite the cafe being the real busy saturday brunch ambience that it is. I would love to come back to try out more of the menu.

Food and coffee tastes great BUT it look 20 mins for my takeaway coffees to be made! What?! The guy on the coffee machine was making one coffee at a time?!He needs to step it up! It's actually ridiculous.

> Smashed avocado with spiced togarashi, feta + pomegranate AND Dragon fruit bowl with house made granola, chia seeds, shaved coconut + fresh fruit <

I’ve been wanting to try 1809 café for so long and I finally got down there to try their incredible food that I had seen all over the gram! They are located amongst a small group of shops in the heart of Glen Waverly. The décor is very pure and simple, but the attention to detail is really crisp and clean. The staff are friendly and very professional.

First of all, how beautiful is the presentation of this bowl?!! When it came to the table I was in awe of how beautiful all the colours were. I had never seen a dragon fruit smoothie bowl been done before, so I was intrigued to see how it tasted. The consistency is a little watery and lumpy, but that is inevitable when you take so long getting the perfect snap! The flavours were really strong, and the house made granola is to die for! The coconut and fresh fruit are perfect additions to add a bit more to the dish and really fill you up. This is a very delicious bowl and they have really nailed the presentation!

We haven’t ordered smashed avo in a while because there is just go many new and creative dishes to try, however, we thought this dish was worth showcasing because it is firstly beautifully presented, and secondly, it tastes amazing! With a very traditional feel to the dish, it is far from basic. The avocado is smooth and the feta sprinkled on top adds a nice texture to the dish. The pomegranate seeds are an interesting addition, however, it adds a really nice burst of sweetness to the meal.

Overall, this dish is perfect for the smashed avo lovers, and if you’re in the area I would definitely recommend trying this place out!

The breakfastpiggy team

Piggies out, Oink oink 🐷🐷

Went with my friend and ordered the Benedict and the pancake. Benedict was creative with an Asian spin. The combination of flavours worked perfectly. Pancake was on the heavy side but still tasted great. Coffee was good. Will go again.

Charming cafe away from the busy hub of shopping areas. I don't even want to tell people how good this place is, as I would like to keep it as an escape from the masses! It was easy to park out right in front of the cafe. There were tables inside & outdoors. The cafe had a light, modern feel & they didn't over-cramp the tables together as with many of the cafes I've been going to, where you feel like you're having a meal with the 2 other couples sitting on either side of you. Our waiter, Ryan, was very spunky and friendly and the staff were helpful and gracious. The menu had a great choice of items - anywhere from a Nutella shake that was beautifully presented with a donut on top to a very healthy Acai bowl or a poke bowl with kale, brown rice, ginger, avo, poached egg & a choice of either wasabi salmon or chicken. All our food was gorgeously presented and delicious! I had the poke bowl with salmon, my husband had scrambled eggs with roasted tomato, bacon & sourdough toast and my daughter had the smashed avo with feta, spices & pomegranate on sourdough. We were extremely happy campers! 😊👍❤️

Great Potential. Family friendly.

The place is spacious which makes it kid and family friendly and they have outside seating which is also pet friendly. Food is innovative and I tried an eggs benedict with 'roti' as a base. Overall this new place has got great potential. A few improvements with coffee and ambience will really make this place pop!

Okay coffee, but was light in flavour. Lack of gluten-free sweets was disappointing, but at least the core menu had decent gluten-free savoury selections. Nice, clean decor and friendly staff.

Not too busy on a Sunday morning as it is hidden away a bit more which is great since most places have a line on Sunday mornings. Chai's are good here and the menu has a unique spin on classic breakfast items for example the eggs benedict were served on roti which is what I had

Have been there a few times and was always satisfied with the presentation of the food and
with the taste!
The French Toast, Pork Sandwich,Big Breakfast, and the Date Cake were my favourites!

Cafe has a nice and a modern design and beautiful yet minimal decoration.
Proper selection of plates and cups and mugs in terms of colour, size, and design.

Highly recommended!

The food at this cafe was absolutely amazing! One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long long time. Would have given a way higher rating but the poor attitudes of the waitresses ruined the experience for me. The waitresses chose to stand in a circle chatting very loudly instead of maybe working on their customer service skills !

A nice little find in a quite strip of shops, staff pretty friendly, very noisy inside with the ?smoothy maker in the main area. Also I had the 'French toast' was described as 'poached eggs' but only come with 1 egg, I would have thought the 's' on the end meant 2? My meal was a little light on but my dining partners meal was satisfying. Coffee a little weak, but overall not a bad place.

I chose the fabulous ‘Benedict with smoked salmon rillette, panko crumbed eggs, sriracha hollandaise, sautéed mushrooms and spinach on chilli roti ($19.00)’. My dining companion opted for the beautiful ‘Cashew Cheesecake Bowl with strawberries, goji berries and pistachios ($14.00)’, which is also a vegan dish.

What a lovely find and such a local gem!!! Service food coffee and deco fantastic! My first visit can't fault it! We had the hotcakes and French toast with mushroom delicious. Will definitely go back often

I just had my lunch with a few friends. Benedict was so yummy. Above all, it was so clean and cozy and very friendly treatment from the staff. Can be my spot to meet up with friends.

such a cute gorgeous cafe located in glen Waverley, interior was so pretty, pastel and minimalistic. Such a warm environment with friendly staff. The menu is amazing, filled with all kinds of dishes for all individual with all dietary needs. I love all the vegan options but as always I was drawn towards this sweet dish I mean look how gorg it looks, who would order if. This proportion of this was so shocking large which made me quite happy and I was definitely fulfilled by the end. Plus the fried was such a yummy add onto my dish. Thanks so much for making me experience here pleasable and I look forward to trying the other vegan options next time! @nourish.melbourne xx
Food-ing
Loved discovering this little cafe in Glen Waverley. Not in the overly busy precinct of Kingsway in Glenny but tucked away in small streets. Parking was easy to find. We were warmly greeted upon entering. The cafe itself has a real modern feel to it. High ceilings, well lit, big tables and it also allows for a lot of natural light however given that Melbourne is rainy and cloudy almost 365 days a year, we didn't catch a lot of natural sunlight that day.
The coffee is good - not the greatest but good nonetheless. The menu was really appealing. There were so many different things I wanted to try. We ended up ordering the Benedict with smoked salmon and the French toast with celeriac puree. The Benedict was nice - I could see where they were trying to take the dish. It is not your traditional eggs benny, it had a bit of a twist to it. Personally, whilst the dish was nice, I think it was one too many elements changed for me. The hollandaise sriracha was a nice kick but I overall I did not love the dish.
The french toast, again I can see what they were trying to do with the dish but I felt that the dish needed a bit of a kick. It lacked a bit of flavour for me - this dish sounded better on paper than it tasted.
Having said that, there are still other dishes that I'd to try from this menu. I think it's a very creative menu and I see a lot of potential in cafe 1809.

Came here for brunch on a Friday at lunchtime. This is a minimalistic cafe with a clean interior tucked away in the streets of Glen Waverley. Only a few tables were occupied, so we were seated right away. Ordered the poke bowl with salmon and a matcha latte with bonsoy. The poke bowl was healthy, nutritious and filling and I liked that the dressing was on the side. The macha latte had no added sugar which I liked, and I could taste the strong matcha flavour. It was also served with a cute bear coffee art design! Service was great, food came out pretty quickly, and items are quite decently priced. Overall, a lovely experience and I will be back to try the other things on the menu! The back wall of the cafe is made of real green plants, which I thought was really cool.

Came to 1809 on a quiet Thursday morning. Staff are really friendly and the decor is interesting. I love the concrete tables.

Coffees were really good and I enjoyed my chilli scrambled eggs. My partner stated the smashed avo was just alright hence the 3.5 instead of the 4. Will definitely be coming back here.

Hidden gem!

Great cafe! Perfect spot for brunch and smoothie bowls. Their coffee is also delicious! There's not a heap of cafes around this area so this one is definitely worth the try!
Catherine To
They had chocolate panna cotta instead of the berry one so it was definitely a bit more rich, but it was still delicious! Their granola is quite buttery which is probably not the healthiest but such a good comfort food. It's a hidden place tucked away in the suburbs so it was quiet but the staff were attentive! We also had the chilli roti which is a bit interesting with the dip on top, but a nice Asian twist to it. Decor is really nice and clean!
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
Well worth the drive out to the burbs! Arrived at 1030am on a Sunday and got a table easily. The menu is incredible and the serving sizes are generous! I was full till late afternoon. The Bircher was AMAZING but the granola on the side was EVEN BETTER! The staff are super friendly. They charged my friend's phone for her. $20 for Bircher and soy latte. I can't wait to return! Highly recommend this cafe :)

Gorgeous cafe tucked away in the suburbs. The decor is fresh and modern and the staff were really lovely! We ordered a chai latte, the french toast and the cashew cheesecake bowl. Sadly the latte was abit tasteless. It was made with tea leaves which looked great but it wasn't strong enough for my liking. The French Toast and cashew cheesecake were great! The Toast had a hint of spicy with a crunchy cheesy exterior. It was served with a celeriac mash and mushroom which complemented the toast well. The cashew bowl was alright - it had a similar taste and texture as a smoothie. It looked lovely with the edible flowers on top. Overall I'd definitely come back. The menu has a great range of options including ones that can be made both veg and vegan. Highly recommend it!

New owner has been doing a great job. Customer service has improved a lot alongside the food and the coffee. Happy to see the progress. Hopefully they open Mondays as well.

Really nice staff, cafe atmosphere was nice and good decor, food tasted good and serving sizes were generous for the price. Definitely coming back!

I am happy with my matcha latte , there not many cafe do delicious matcha latte, however hubby thinks his coffee wasn't strong enough for him . It's a good place for you to stop by to have a quiet & soothing tea time .
Eat And Be Merry Crew
I was rather excited to find out that there was a Glen Waverley cafe to try that wasn't located in the congested and (sadly) over-rated dining precinct in the Glen Waverley station/Kingsway area. 1809 is a little gem, hidden in an assuming strip of local shops near the Glendale primary school. It's the only cafe in that strip so it has nicely cornered the market in this part of the world.

Bub ordered a chicken teriyaki poke bowl (I think there was a smoked salmon version available too). This was a very fresh and substantial meal. A bowl of brown rice that had a ring of delectable goodies around it. Chicken tenderloin strips, sliced avo with sesame seeds, mixed green veg (I think it was baby kale and sprouts), pickled ginger, a poached egg and a soy-based dressed. She quite enjoyed it.

We came for Mother's Day Brunch. A group of 5 of us. I have only good things to say from start to finish. The coffee was lovely, the service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The fusion of Sri Lankan and Western food was brilliant. The Eggs Benedict with Salmon Rilette, served on Roti with chilli hollandaise was out of this world. We are coming back soon as this is our new favourite place
