Excellent Sri Lankan and Indian Cuisine at affordable prices. Have eaten here several times over the past 2 years and never been disappointed. Dallas Achilles
Being a regular diner I have had a chance to provide feedback to the owners about their dishes
I must say that they are willing and able to make changes as they see fit
Really tasty & spicy food. Good value too.
Best restaurant I ever been
Very busy place. But very good fried kale and fish curry. My mom ordered the pasembour rojak, it was very delightful. Will definitely come back again.
Not many places in Melbourne serve Mamak Rojak/Pasembor, so it's a treat to eat it at CK. Especially when it's deliciously saucy and spicy, and a generous serve.
I’ve had the dinner set for take away a few times now, and have only been disappointed once because butter chicken was not available. The sets are great value for money because I usually have leftovers for another 1.5 meals!
Five stars because of the consistently tasty meals and range of options, not to mention generous portions.
New to this area and found a series of Indian restaurants on this street. Walked into this restaurant as there were a number of diners in there at 10.30am in the morning. A positive sign that food must be decent. We got the 2 meat one veg meal as a takeaway for lunch and it was really tasty. The food is authentic, curry was really flavourful and the price was reasonable with big portions. Will come back again next time we come up to this area.
Stumbled on to this place and saw Maggie Goreng on the menu. I had to try this, as very rarely do you get the extra special Maggie Goreng with the thin egg noodles.
Spicy, dark and with a fried egg of top, did not disappoint. All the food looked spectacular, will definitely be going back to try the other dishes.
Got my eye on the curries and string hopper for next time.
Very tasty food for Indians and Sri Lankan’s. U can definitely relate to the taste of ur country. Cost friendly as well. Only drawback is chicken biriyani wasn’t that good. Except that everything else is phenomenal. Thanks.
Great food. Hot chicken curry was very, very hot but tasty. Egg hoppers were brilliant. Ambience is not existent - it's a Cafe. But the staff were friendly and helpful. Good prices too. Will be back!
We lunched at Corlam. We picked 2 meats and 1 veggie from their food displayed in the bain marie and their hoppers (3 plain hoppers and 1 egg hopper) special. The curries were nice and had a good chilli hit without being overly hot. The stand out were the hoppers , thin and crunchy. The egg was still a little runny so it was delicious. The coconut sambal that came with the hoppers could be a little spicy. Service is ok. Will definitely return to try other items on offer.
We walked around the food places in Syndal and came across this place which served Sri Lankan, Indian, Malaysian food which I found quite interesting. We ordered the hopper deal for $10 and the Malaysia char kway teow for $9.90. I thought for the price, the portion was quite generous :). In terms of the food, I thought it was alright :)
Came here for a simple lunch with some golfing friends after a round of golf. The set lunch menu was great. 1 meat 2 veg + rice was $10 / 2 meats 1 veg + rice was $11. Very reasonable price for a large portion ... very filling. You won't need dinner after this. Selection of meats and vegies were good and fresh. Would recommend it for a simple / fast meal, if you enjoy curries !!
The restaurant smelt delicious. Fresh curry smells in every corner and very fast seating and serving upon arrival. Slightly disorganised with the staffing but very accommodating and authentic. Will definitely go back. One of the best Indian places sampled.
This place is a hidden gem, we drove 20km or so just to try this place as we love indian/Malay food and I would have driven 50km just for this place! Wow, every element that hit my place was perfect! For a minute I truly felt like I was eating nasi kandar style food in Kuala Lumpur. The roti crisp and light - cooked to perfection with an amazing Dahl gravy. The coconut rice (as per our request normally serviced with plain white) was fresh and so flavoursome. Each curry was slow cooked to perfection, absolutely loved the eggplant curry - so delicious! We washed down our feast (it truly was a feast, we are foodies and could not come close to finishing a plate - 2 fairly full containers coming home) anyway we washed it down with 2 ice teh Tarik, absolutely on point perfect. Every flavour and sound and smell here reminded me of being back in Kuala Lumpur, and the prices weren't far off either, only $10-11 for lunch or dinner 3 curries and rice!!! $2.5 for roti and only $3 for teh Tarik. I will be back fairly regularly from now on, we've found our new special place that gives us a taste of holidaying without being on holiday. Thank you everyone here at corlam kitchen. Oh and a huge special mention to the massive surprise and highlight of the trip the coconut sambal! Wow, never had a coconut sambal before but it is incredible and the best one I've ever eaten. Don't take my word for it, come down and try this place it's amazing.
Unassuming restaurant along Blackburn Road but provides great food at a low price and is close by!
Ordered the masala dosa for takeaway which came wrapped up in foil. Haven't had many dosas to compare against but this one was really nice although was slightly soggy and cooled down by the time I ate it at home. The sauces and curries it came with were very tasty and I enjoyed the bite from the coconut. Do note that it is fairly spicy even though they don't look it. The mango lassi was creamy with strong flavours of mango and was great to combat the spice! The prices from what I could see on the menu were all very afforable and makes for a cheap but hearty meal. Can't wait to come back for the hoppers here.
The restaurant is simple but rather cleaner than expected. I assume it's a family establishment as when I arrived to pick up my order, the servers were all gathered at the table and came up to serve me. I didn't find them particularly friendly but service was fairly efficient and I wasn't expecting much in terms of service anyway.
Decent Malaysian/South Indian food and really big portions! The lamb murtabak was delicious, the teh halia was not too sweet and the hoppers were nice too. We took away some curry puffs which I think is one of the better ones I've had in Melbourne.
Best Authentic Sri Lankan/Indian/Malaysian cuisine Restaurant in the eastern suburbs. The closest thing to an authentic home cooked meal at very cheap prices. Servings are also very generous. Highly recommended.
Always the Hopper meal. Consistent in quality. Love the lamb curry. Happy shop owner. Always there to greet you with a smile. Food serve quickly. 👍🏻
The food here is great, very authentic. The curries are hot, and dosas are lovely, and the pan rolls are also cooked to perfection. Definitely worth a visit for a good value lunch.
very friendly staff! nice dishes and location just off syndal station. Reasonable price would definitely recommend. ordered mee goreong for take away, very nicely mixed with lots seafood and noddles is bouncy
👍👍👍
Have been there many times and introduced to my family and friends. All agreed that the food was great. Have tried their many curries and all tasted good. Normally will go for the set 2meat+1veggie with roti or rice. Their roti is Malaysian roti canal - good but sometimes can be a bit doughy compared to fluffy. Also serves very good tosai and lamb or chicken biryani. Vadeh and curry puffs are a good starter. Casual setting.
We ordered the kottu roti and masala dosa. The kottu roti was in the bay marine which I didn't know at the time I ordered so was a bit apprehensive. Ohhhh my god the kottu was amaaaazing. Definitely the best I have ever had. My partners masala dosa was also good but the kottu stole the show. Service was good and the food was priced well. We'll definitely be going back
Just really tasty food! Real spice, real flavour, no frills. I like to go in off-peak times to beat the crowds because the place does get busy.
It was our first time at Corlam Kitchen as a family and we all left extremely happy and satisfied with the food and service. We had the hoppers and we highly recommend them to anyone who has't tried them before. They come in sweet and savory and both are great. The chicken tikka was delicious and tender and the malaysian style tea was really good as well. The waitress was calm and nice even though it was quite busy. The bill was surprisingly reasonable for the amount of food we had. We are definitely returning to try the other tasty sounding items on the menu.
Last Wednesday had to be the worst day in 2016 for me on various accounts. Call it back luck if you may and when things turn sour, I tend to crave for a hearty meal that can instantly, yet temporarily, take my mind aboard a mini holiday. Similar to binge eating but not to the same extent I suppose:p
FRAZZLED AND FABULOUS!
That was Corlam Kitchen tonight. But, even though they were a in a bit of a TIZZ at the front counter, the food was EPIC. The flavours were GORGEOUS. Not salty like other places. Nice meat, not tough or chewy. Serving size was good. CHEAP EATS also!
We reckon on coming back and trying the HOPPERS, which they do every day.
Probably best to come here when you are not in a RUSH or FAMISHED. Things take time here. Some of the locals/regulars bring a BOTTLE OF PLONK and settle in for a THE WAIT. BUT from what we enjoyed tonight, it all seems WELL WORTH IT!
For a reasonable priced meal and for a frequent change of vegetable dishes, try this restaurant.
You may find yourself coming back again and again as we have done.
Our favorite food is mee goreng but remember to tell them to fry it with less oil
The lamb kothu is spicy and tasty
The teh tarih halia isn't as genuine as what we would get back in Malaysia
I'm a regular at this place! Good value and friendly service from staff, but there tends to be a wait for food and drinks to be served. Often, drinks come halfway or at the end of the meal! Their curries are not as sweet as other places, which is a plus. Overall their food is enjoyable and satisfying.
Amazing food, but maybe needs a few more wait staff... Because it's almost impossible to order when it's busy.
Get the sweet hoppers. Get them. Why haven't you gotten them yet?
Solid Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine. Their curries are nice, but nothing particular to rave about. What I really like about this place, though, is their hoppers. This is the only restaurant I've been to that serves incredible hoppers (both savoury and sweet)! However, it takes a while as they prepare it on order.
Their rotis are alright, but could be more fluffy and crispy.
The huge portions, though, are a really big plus! The rice+2 meat set can easily fill up two people, no problem.
Will be back for the hoppers! :D
Tasty. Pittu Kottu with fish is very tasty, mildly spicy & big serving, though a bit too salty for me. The hoppers are soft in the middle & crispy on the edges, perfect with the coconut topping.
Excellent Food. I drive 15k to Corlam Kitchen for my rice and curry I only buy from here since I got to know this place. food is very fresh and authentic just like home cooked and you don't feel heavy after the meal. I would recommend this "no frill" restaurant to anyone who like curries!
Great food!. I stumbled across this restaurant while looking for quick bite and the food was great. Dishes are value for money and full of flavour. I particularly enjoyed the roti, garlic and cheese naan, highly recommended!
Hidden gem! Great Indian Food. I work in the general area (near Monash University), and am not excited about the mediocre (at best) choices around. I walked into this place for lunch not expecting much, but I was surprised at the variety and quality of food. I had the Lamb Curry, Chicken Curry, and a bit of the beef curry. All were very tasty and fresh. -The lamb, was nice and spicy -something that's hard to get right.
The decor is very basic. I think they still must be setting up shop. Don't get put-off by the cafe-style sparse layout - you definitely get authentic restaurant dishes. In fact, in a weird way, I like the hole-in-the-wall family-run type restaurants for that very reason. You get surprised how good the food is.
The price was extremely affordable. In a city restaurant, you'd be easily paying up to $30 for similar quality food, which I paid $12, including soda. You get generous amount as well.
If you're in the area, it's worth trying!

Basic. Went there for lunch a month ago, food tasted good. and then went there for our second time recently food was average. not maintaining the consistency of the food.. but the service is good.
New hidden wonder!. We only noticed this place when parking to go to the palms restaurant across the street. We had a quick look at the menu and decided to try this place instead as the prices were more reasonable than palms. The interior was a little plain but when the food came out, we were amazed at how good it was. There was literally nothing left on our plates and the malaysian tea (teh tarik) was so good I had to get another one. I wish they had this place where I'm from in NSW.
The rice with 3 curries is perhaps the cheapest and best deal. Authentic Malaysian Indian curries and roti. I have been here for several years now, and this place never disappoints, especially when it comes to curries and food. Caution though, curries are a little spicy for some who are not use to chillies.
Super impressed with the authenticity and value of the dishes here. I had lunch on a weekday and selected a few dishes from their Bain Marie. The curry chicken was delicately spiced and the beef rendang was tenderly addictive. Service was on the slower and non chalant side but the food made up for it. Definitely a winner.
Yummy Sri Lankan food. We usually take the rice 1 meat and 2 veg but we also have the dosa, hoppers and pulled tea(Teh Tarik).
Food was delicious and freshly made. Loved the experience of Sri Lankan food. Prawn curry was sooo delicious ! Generous portions and hospitality ! Will definitely go back.
How come I found this place !!! amazing authentic food and home cook feeling but it has enough flavour!!!!!!
Have ordered take away here many many times. Value for money. 2 meat + 1 vegt is $13 with heaps of rice. Tasty curry and the goat is amazing.
The Biryani with Lamb was awesome. There was kick in the spice and the rice was very fragrant and full of flavour. The yogurt will help with the spiciness if you find the spiciness too much to handle. The teh terik was as authentic as it can get. Definitely try it!
Pasembur / rojak and egg hoppers are super authentic. I can guarantee that it taste like the real thing that you can find in Penang, Malaysia.
Nishala was very kind. She had introduce Sri Lankan cuisine to us when we visit. Delicious Kottu Roti. If you are a fan of spicy food, ask for the Spicy Sri Lankan chicken curry.
