I have visited Dainty Sichuan many times before but this is my first time reviewing it! The spicy beef tongue and heart included some numbing spice. i found this to be the spiciest of all dishes. The crispy Sichuan duck was definitely crispy although i felt the meat was overcooked. The cumin lamb slices would be my favourite of all the dishes. Spicy and full of flavour with no overpowering lamb scent. The fish flavoured pork threads had a sweet and sour flavour which helped give your tastebuds a break from the spiciness. The fried pork slices were super crispy. The food here is consistently cooked to a high standard.
Delicious spicy Sichuan food, perfect for a cold autumn evening. Must orders include hot and spicy fish slices, stewed lamb ribs, spicy lamb kebabs, and tofu threads with leek. The service was very attentive and when a vegetable dish came late they gave us an extra generous portion. Not cheap but definitely high quality. Seemed to be a popular place too.
Good quality authentic food but quite expensive.
Ambience average, run of the mill asian restaurant.
Service was good, staff attentative and polite.
The sichuan dishes such as the sichuan fish, the chili chicken, the shreded cold chicken, the cold chili noodles etc. are spicy and flavourful. Service is pretty quick and the waitstaff are friendly enough.
Ever since visiting China, I have fallen in love with Sichuan food and I was delighted to find a place close by in the Glen waverley area.
Although I can never make sense of the menu, I do enjoy taking a gamble when ordering and so far it has worked out rather well. I have however worked out that the daoxia noodles are thick hand made and hand cut noodles and are a must try! On this occasion I chose the biang biang noodles($12.90) which come with minced pork, veggies as well as egg+tomato. There was a lot of noodle(too much in fact!) and it gets filling fast as the noodles are quite heavy. The dumplings are also very nice and portion sizes in general are rather generous. Do note that the cuisine in general is quite oily and spicy but that is why I love it so much!
The restaurant is frills free in both interior and service. It can be difficult sometimes to know who the waiters are as they are all dressed in casual. Service is quite friendly but some of the waiters can't speak english and were unable to take our order.
Great authentic shanxi style restaurant. Biangbiang noodles is a must try. Maybe too oily for some people.
Pork burger was great, crispy bread and lots of pork. Again, quite oily.
Had a craving for some Sichuan food but didn't want to go all the way into the city for it. Found a local place at Glenny and booked ourselves a table.
The staff were friendly, most if not all the waiters were bilingual/multilingual. As it was our first time there, we asked for recommendations. We ended up ordering the beef on toothpick, the oxtail tomato soup, the boiling fish in golden basin, the chongqing chilli chicken, the smoked pork and cauliflower wok, the potato noodles with pork threads, the mapo tofu and the tofu shreds with leek. FYI - we dined with a large group...
When you don't bite into the peppercorns, it's great. But the minute you sink your teeth into those fiery peppercorns. Game over.
For me, the stand out dishes were the beef on toothpick, the boiling fish and the pork and cauliflower. The potato noodles and the tofu and leek dish weren't great. I wouldn't order them again.
I would and I have gone back again. Basically, if you're gonna go to Shaanxi then don't be expecting mild food. They clearly serve hot Sichuan food. It's all over the menu. If you're into your Sichuan, then this is not a bad place to visit.
A Sunday gathering around a round table with plenty of shared dishes to dig into family style is a great afternoon well spent, and we chose to do that at Dainty Sichuan in Glen Waverley. Admittedly I've been a bit dubious and hesitant about Sichuan cuisine. I'm not a fan of that numbing pepper spice and whilst I enjoy heat and spice, my poor tummy sometimes doesn't. But Ling loves this place so we were ready to give it a go.
Spicy, aromatic and full of flavour. The dishes were quite plentiful and worth the prices paid. The service was also acceptable with attentive waiting staff and dishes were relatively quick in arriving despite the busy dinner.
I'm not one to love Sichuan food but it's really good here! Make sure you go for the lamb skewers, the eggplant dish, the pigs ears and the fried chilli chicken! All a winner in my books!
After visiting all Dainty Sichuan branches, this particular Glen Waverley branch continued to be inconsistent. Whenever I visit Dainty Sichuan at South Yarra and Glen Waverley, my partner and I would always order the golden basin boiling fish dish. After visiting both branches many times, it is confirmed that Dainty Sichuan at south Yarra has far more fish pieces and bean shoots in the dish compared to glen Waverley despite paying the exact same price. Personally, it does not make sense that we have to pay the same amount and get a smaller portion at glen. I highly recommend everyone to visit Dainty Sichuan South Yarra since the dishes are far more consistent, good service and has more seatings.
Very traditional Chinese flavor, as a northern girl, I love it so much. Even the restaurant is far away from my house, I'd like to visit again and again. You can see how much I love this place. One point, sometimes it is not quite clean, like, hairs in the dish.
Had a crappy night and a really bad experience with an Indian restaurant in Springvale and was pleasantly surprised to have such a great customer experience here. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The food was also good and very generous in serving. As always the lamb ribs is a standout. Such great service.
Dainty Sichuan in great if you like sichuan style food. For those who are unsure, it usually is very spicy and oily. It is also one of the only cooking styles that utilizes sichuan peppercorns, known for its numbing effect.
If you're after some of the less spicy dishes here, always feel welcomed to ask for just that! Less spice.
The Beef stew, 3 veg stir fry and sichuan cold noodles (tasty noodles) are what I'd recommend to try
I'm usually a frequent lover of Sichuan spicy food. The place is pretty okay, I would suggest however to go to this restaurant when it's not busy. Obviously busier restaurants sometimes can lower in service and it takes longer to receive your food. Other than that, I recommend the place :) happy eating!
The chilly weather in Melbourne right now calls for food that warms up the soul, and Sichuan food, with its ample use of chilli and spices, fulfils that requirement perfectly, hence why we headed to Dainty Sichuan for a family dinner one night.
Despite being an authentic Chinese Restaurent, service is surprisingly good. Then the dishes, OMG, amazingly tasty. All our six dishes were cooked to perfection, my favorites were the eggplant and the tea tree mushroom with pork strips. On the pricey side though, but one is always happy to pay extra for good food.
Stopped here for dinner, the restaurant was busy but there were empty tables and we were able to get a table for 2 right away. The dishes we ordered were oily, which is typical for mainland China cuisine, however they were tasty. All the dishes we had were spicy, despite us requesting for them to be mild..but that's okay, we still ate them. My fav was definitely the eggplant dish. Great to come here when the weather gets colder, and the spicy food can warm us up!
This is the most authentic Chinese food you can ever get in Melbourne. Full of favour, fast and efficient service, it's a bit over priced, but judging by how busy it is, nobody cares about the price.
Yes. That's the only word to describe this place. If you're into spicy Sichuan food (which is a type of Chinese) then 100% check this place out, the food is on the expensive side but worth every cent. If you can't handle spice then this is not your place!
The Chongqing chilli chicken was absolutely delicious, I have tried so many versions of this dish in different restaurants (including ones in China) and this one is definitely the best so far. The chicken was well spiced and had the perfect amount of chilli, it wasn't dry like it is in most other restaurants, such a delight to eat. Had a tad bit too much oil but that's expected from a Sichuan restaurant. Come here for the Sichuan dishes and try to avoid any that aren't.
Positives - Food was full of flavor, it was flavored with herbs and spices and tasted delicious. Food was well presented. Water was topped regularly which was much needed!
Negatives - Food was extremely salty and oily (although I suspect this is with all Sichuan cuisine). It quite expensive for the portions that we got. We were rushed and explicitly told to eat as quickly as possible and leave. I understand if they are busy but they weren't, nobody was even waiting. They even tried to take our plates of food before we were even finished with them. Servers were not polite, they kind of glare at you when you smile and say thank you to them.
Typical substandard Chinese service, but I suspect that I will be back because we loved the food.
The legend continues - food every bit as good as South Yarra. Sensational service. We tried something we hadn't had before - Cumin Lamb Ribs - delicious.
Food was okay, the tea tree mushroom dishes that i always ordered whenever i ate @dainty toorak taste totally different here, which is weird. It was still good, but it taste like other dishes, so i assume that maybe the cook didnt wash the wok properly before cooking the dishes, the restaurant was packed and tight, and the manager kept walking and looking at u while u eating.. I definitely will stick to toorak next time.
second and third time went there, the food was good, service was good as well, definitely an improvement, will definitely go back.
We've tried the other dainty sichuan outlets and this new one in Glen Waverley is no different. Food is fast and tasty. Big generous servings. Not sure why everyone else was drinking watermelon juice though? Service is typical of a Chinese restaurant. Will be back for sure.

Such a busy place!
So flavoursome, even for those with sensitive taste-buds like me want to handle the delicious heat (anything with a #1-2 chili rating!).
The crispy yet soft eggplant became my favourite.
But the winner of the night, unexpectedly enough, was the Stir-Fried Three Vegetable ($19.9). Taking advantage of eggplant’s unique texture, each piece was lightly battered and caramelised in a frying pan, then doused with an umami soy-based glaze. The end result was crispy, sticky, and soaked with sauce. And although the eggplant was undeniably the star, the crunchy capsicum and fluffy potatoes had their time in the spotlight too.
So does Dainty Sichuan live up to its expectations? I have to give it a resounding yes. Neither mum nor dad could find anything to fault with the meal, and they both lived near Sichuan until their early 30s. The locals like it too, and the restaurant was packed to the brim by 6pm. It is a bit on the pricy end, especially compared to our family favourite – Chong Qing Hot Pot – just down the road, but with food of this quality, no one can really muster up the energy to care.
Impressive fitout and service. Chicken ribs signature dish is really good. Sichuan fried rice also a win. Good place to come with big group. Quite pricey compared to other asian joints around Glen Waverley, but fine dining atmosphere and big portions. Will be back
Food was quite good when we went. We booked at the wrong dainty but they still made room for us. On a Friday night too! Definitely recommend the fish, that was probably my favourite.
I don't recommend this to anyone who doesn't eat or enjoy chilli or spicy dishes.
Also I don't recommend anyone who has high expectations. It's a Chinese restaurant and it's natural for it to be average service anywhere you go so if you're expecting quality service, don't bother.
